Review Cornish Arms Hotel - Brunswick

Olivia Chin
really great service and lovely staff. Ordered the chicken papaya salad which was surprisingly bad. It was very dry, seasoned only with vinegar and parsley? Otherwise it was grated carrot and papaya and there were maybe 3 cashews on it. It feels like a dish that someone made without tasting it before hand. the worst meal i have ordered. Dont order it. My friends had nice meals, maybe go for the chicken burger.

Great little Sydney road pub with a rooftop bar to sweeten the deal! You’ll find your usual selection of pub eats, parma’s & potato skins. The portions are hearty and was a tasty meal, most definitely worth the price, inside is a nice atmosphere, and there is an outside area out there back where you can enjoy a smoke.

For a Saturday night I was still able to walk in and get seated right away without a booking, so true to their profile which states “walk-ins available”, so that was a warm welcome. But it was packed to the rafters with people filling every available spot. And it was busy and loud and full as you’d expect at this pub. Needless to say the 3 bar staff downstairs were constantly slammed with drink orders. Watching them make jug after jug of sweet cocktails. They appeared to be a favourite. But they served me quickly and efficiently. Dropped in for a quick bite and a pint or 3. Wasn’t disappointed. I ordered the Cheeseburger (Beef) for a quick meal option. Burger was tasty and I was served quickly. Particularly enjoyed the smokiness and slight char on the meat. Very satisfying. Chips were perfectly cooked.

Great find! Friendly staff, great food, good beer... Will venture to the rooftop next time 😁

I really enjoyed visiting this spot. Great atmosphere inside, but up on the rooftop is the place to be. Great views of the city while you enjoy your food and drink. The meals were brought out quickly and were very nice. Wednesdays is steak night on the menu, and it didn't disappoint. Great friendly service. Definitely worth a visit. 👌

We all know what to expect when we get pub food don’t we? Not this place! Excellent vegan menu and sensational mainstream food. Order was taken quickly and delivered to the table with speed. I notice a lot of staff don’t smile anymore but I guess this is the impact or COVID and me being old fashioned. We will be back.
MishManners
Amazing views of the city. Great staff and amazing service. Very good with dietary requirements and do delicious gluten free pizza. Only lost a star because they used some random pomegrante sauce that was ridiculously sweet. But if this is your thing, go for it.
Amy Lee
A great option for a hangout with vego/vegan friends as they have a full meat and vegan menu. Went for steak night. The steak was tasty but a little bit dry/chewy. The vegan steak sandwich was good. Servings were very generous. Service was solid, there was only one person for our section and she appeared to be managing quite well.

We came for dinner yesterday and I ate the most perfect vegan caesar salad !! It was juicy and crunchy, big enough to satisfy my hunger - well, simply fantastic! Only thing I am not sure If the "egg" was missing there Also Seitan snackbox we had was nice and surprising with anise? flavour, but a bit too pricey since over half of the box was just chips. Anyway, it is absolutely great how you take care of vegans in this place. The vegan menu is good and interesting and a BIG plus is drink list where all the vegan stuff is marked. Overall we really enjoyed our night and also every staff member was really nice eventhough it seemed like a busy night! Thank you!

Been here twice now. The first time i had the vegan nachos. Yesterday I have the vegan TVP burger. Both were absolutely delicious, though the burger didn't come with that many chips. Still, the staff are very helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere is great. I shall return, and I highly recommend.

I have recently moved to Melbourne and found this gem, they atmosphere is super chilled and it's very spacious....BUT The all time best part about this pub is the vegan food 😍😍😍 it's all amazing all the time and my favourite so far is the cheezy garlic bread 👌🌱 a must visit for everyone but if you're vegan definitely check it out as it's just amazing the amount of options

I have been here for 2nd times and it's a very good place for chilling good food good staff ever!!!! I would like to recommend who looking for food and drinks!!
Dennis Bardenhagen
The food is consistently great. The staff are very knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Not a huge menu , but varied. Caution . It is a good idea to book for dinner. If you just walk up , you might be disappointed. It has become hugely popular it seems by word of mouth. If you don't cut the mustard in Brunswick .There is probably competition , next door or two doors away. Highly recommended for a pub meal.
Laura Rose Agalianos
The vegan souvlaki was average.. the "meat" could have done with a bit of crispening... my chips were well seasoned but my partners were plain so a little inconsistant with that.. but... the vegan cookies and cream cheesecake.. was so yum I couldnt stop eating it and I was well past full! Overall pretty good experience.
Marc Leith Wright
Great service great food and fun vibe. I recommend this place and cant wait to go back!
Brent Jessica Swann
We went to this venue for dinner. We all ordered meat meals and they were of the highest standard. I highly recommend. The wait staff were great considering they are waiting tables and the bar!
Marguerite Simpson
Fantabulous Steaks Lunch menu stops at 3pm But the best place for food in a great setting Menu Wise Great Around the Clock 😀
Chloe Boyington
Epic vegan food, I needed reassurance as the vegan meal didn’t taste vegan. So yummy though. Not usually a fan of mock meats but this was amazing. Great job 👍

Top service - Top food - Best pub I’ve been to in Australia.. and I’ve been to many! Def. take friends/family here - all of you will be impressed by the food!
Jenny-Anne Jett
So disappointed, we made a special trip for the vegan menu only to find all you had was fake meat? #boganvegan
Kelly Johns
Great menu options (even for a non vegan like me) and very friendly and helpful staff
Sharon Stuart
I love it more every time I come! Nice work on Mothers Day, packed but great staff to customer ratio and no delays for food or drinks :) Thanks too for your vegan options, appreciated.
Ben Crompton
An incredible array of vegan food that is mindblowingly delicious fried, crispy and pub food goodness. So amazing
Justin Conlin
Best ever pub ! I wish there was a pub with vegan options like this in Adelaide.. 10/10 loved it !!

I love the vibe of this place and the vegan menu is fantastic, but it is such a shame that every single time I go there we are always greeted by disgruntled staff that make us feel as though we’re the biggest inconvenience. Every. Single. Time. They put things down on your table without saying anything, if you ask for anything they just walk away to get it without acknowledging you as though you’ve murdered their family. God forbid you want to pay your bill as well. I’m so surprised to see reviews about friendly staff because not once have we encountered that. I understand people have bad days, but this is such a common occurrence it makes going there less enticing. Such a shame.

Had eaten here in the past and enjoyed the ambience, albeit average food. Next time going was for a large booking 18th birthday. Horrific experience.

Although notified & agreed some attendees would be minors, upon arrival the venue requested we leave as they could not serve us (bar regulations). Why was this not considered over the numerous phone calls? Let us continue with the booking so long as no one purchased alcohol. Never spoke with manager/owner, doubt if he was even notified about the ordeal
Mr Burns
I had not been here for a couple years, as I remember the food being quite average. However I was going to a gig round the corner so my wife and friends thought we would try as there is not that much to choose from in the area. The staff were nice enough, but that’s all the place has going for it. I ordered one of the vegan burgers, very disappointing the patty fell apart and was bland, as well as rest of the burger and the chips were very poor. My wife ordered the bean burrito, which for some reason was covered in this melted tasty cheese sauce which pretty much rendered the burrito inedible. The pints were $13 for a pretty standard range which I consider expensive. All in all even worse than I remember
Green Gourmet Giraffe
The star of the show for me was sweet potato fries with cranberry sauce. They were amazing. So I am glad to be making up for lost time with the Cornish Arms. This is not for health freaks. The food is traditional pub grub with lots chips and frying. It is not something I would want to eat too regularly but once in a while it is a nice treat and a good reliable place to eat. I love that they are seasonal in having food to celebrate occasions as well as a good mocktails menu.
Whalesfoodadventure
Great vegan range here. Food comes out quickly. Got the mock meat nachoes and it tasted great. Abit pricey but worth it. Wasnt the biggest fan of the facon but everything else was delicious.
Quince And Cheese
If you have a taste (and a stomach) for mock meat, this is you spot. Expect vegan takes on traditional pub meals, with pub prices. The Parma is a bit sickening if you eat the whole thing, but great to share. Same goes for the super nostalgic and very fried hot and spicy box. You also really can't pass up the peanut butter choc vegan cheesecake for dessert. Drink selection is just okay but incredibly vegan friendly.
Peanuts666
I’m not really sure where to start but I will say that I’ve never been so sick in my life as I was after eating the vegan Parm. The manger is a c**t and the whole venue is turning into shit. All good things come to an end and I think it’s time to chalk this up as a loss...

Came here for a friend's birthday celebration, awesome food, cool staff, and a noice vibe had me super comfortable from the moment I walked in, will be back soon!!
Melbourne’sTopEats
Solid pub food with a nice atmosphere.

The best thing about this place is how well they cater to vegans and vegetarians. An entire vegan menu is not what you’d expect when walking in the door and makes this a brilliant option when catching up with a bunch of people with different dietaries.

Be sure to check their weekly specials if you’re looking for a cheaper eat.

Overall, always a solid choice.👌
Melbourne Madness
LOVE this place! My favourite vegan pub I've been to so far! Love all the mock meat options, and vegan jackpot specials keeping it interesting - always a reason to keep going back! They also have great cocktails, and some funky beers to check out - I love sitting out in the courtyard or up at the new rooftop bar on a sunny day.

You can even drop in for a bingo session while eating your vegan parma!

Thank you for having such a great vegan menu, for those who still like the taste and texture of meat - without the cruelty :)
The Hungry Vegan
I have been wanting to try this Vegan pub for the longest time, but unfortunately i was a little underwhelmed. Let me preface this however by saying that this could potentially be because of my choice of dish.

Normally only being offered an eggplant parma when eating out, I was super excited to try the mock chicken parma offered at the Cornish Arms. However unfortunately for me, the thickness and the "processed" texture was a little too much for me. So much so that I couldn't finish the dish. But the beer was great!

Would definitely give the pub another go - maybe not the chicken parma this time though
Simmyeats.Melb
I’ve been wanting to come here for a while now and a Saturday arvo filled with sunshine was the perfect chance to go.

I went to Tim.E and we enjoyed sitting in the back beer garden, the ambiance is really good here.

Lots of beer on tap and great monthly deals too, $8 for a pint of ‘beer of the month’ Winning!

Staff friendly and a great pub, will definitely be back.
Timinmelbourne
4.5/5
I called into this place with Simmyeats.Melb who recommended this pub as it had a good beer garden.

Well the service was excellent, and friendly and the punters just as good. I had a great time and this pub has a really relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a weekend drink.

I tried a Prancing Pony XPA which had a citrus flavour and it was delicious. The perfect afternoon beer, and at $8 a pint ALL month ALL the time not just happy hour, this is the kind of place that I could sit at all afternoon.

And they have great specials on meals and genuinely good vegan options! Highly recommended but grab a tram across the road hahaha
Tracy Nguyen
They have a good range of vegan options which is awesome. I ordered the vegan Kiev, “buffalo” wings and the vegan rocky road. All was really good and would recommend. Definitely a place to go if you’re looking to chill and have a drink, and enjoy some good food.
Stace Bianca Lenthall
We came here last night for the first time in years and it was such a great surprise to see the newly added rooftop. Fantastic views of the city and a tapas/share menu to match! We grabbed the 30 dollar meat share platter, calamari, and croquettes. The food was great, the calamari was definitely a stand out. The only complaint was the size of the meat platter. It was very small, not much to share. For the price we expected alot more. Definitely be back but maybe for the price of the food we would eat somewhere beforehand.
Claire & Eric
Ordered the lamp rump which is served medium rare. It was actually cooked medium and when we confronted the waitress she refused to take our food back to the kitchen claiming they don't accept it and it's 'just pub food'.
Bronagh Gordon
Honestly the service was quite average - however the range of vegan options and food was superb. The food was very quick to come out, as well.
JJB
Really like this place. Always order the eggplant chips and the vegan Mac daddy which I love every time. Only issue I’ve had with this place is that I called up made a booking, got there to be told I didn’t have a booking and then got asked to wait 40+ minutes for a table. Customer could be improved.
Hira Gill
Really liked the place when it started. Absolutely loved Southern Fried chicken with Little Apples Cider. Corn bread they used to serve was just brilliant. Pitty they don’t do it anymore. Now it’s turning more and more into a cheesy pub than a restaurant. Always too noisy, definitely not suitable for families. Food quality has dropped severely and on top, wait on the food is very long. Recently, my gf booked a table over the phone and when she got there, they denied not only the table but also said they never received a phone call. Then staff’s attitude was icing on the cake.
Murgatroyd
Food and service was fine but greatly spoiled by the man (manager? Acts like it) with the beard who was extremely rude to myself and my friend AND the people working. He was clicking his fingers at the waitstaff and barking them around like dogs. Shame on you for being so rude to not only customers but your staff!!!!! I won’t be returning.
Savvy And Lifestyle
Came here because I heard raving reviews from word of mouth, I ordered the vegan caeser salad which was very nourishing, refreshing and very delightful I didn't feel so heavy on the waistline afterwards haha. Taste very similar to a non vegan caeser. They offer quite an extensive menu, hats off to the creator for putting these awesome dishes on the menu.
Jinn
3.5/5 (but worth a 4)
Standard pub meals with a few fusion items. Good to see the range in meals available from the kitchen. A friend had the Malaysian curry which was ‘interesting’ to say the least. The curry was good but the peanut sauce that came with was rather questionable. Definitely tasted like grocery store peanut butter with some satay spices in it. (Personally, I wasn’t a fan) The Parma I had, however, was rather nice albeit a bit pricy. Overall, a very cosy pub with good food and ambience for catching up with friends. Will definitely be back in future :)
Yumyumfoodyum
Extensive vegan options, so I often come here when catching up with vegan friends. The food is delicious, they also do table service inside and split the bill so thumbs up for that. Ordered the mushroom burger and some buffalo wings and I could have licked the plate. The lamb salad on the table was also quickly demolished. Recommend booking a table as it was pretty packed.
Peter Koulis
Please note that $15 for a stake does not mean a tiny portion of meat , much smaller than an entree and served cold and we waited 30 mins !! No thank you never again ! Also noticed that the 3 sausages were in actual fact little Frankfurt sized snags hahahahaha .
April
I went here after work one evening with a friens whos a vegetarian. She recommended the vegetarian souvlaki... order it and you can thank me later!
Iris Myandowski
I'm a sucker for a mock meat. So who knows how I managed to bypass The Cornish Arms for so long. I made up for it by ordering near to the entire menu (my money goes on the mac n cheese bites and away from the buffalo soldiers).
Ji
as constructive feed back it can be. ordered beef rib, deep fried calamari, chickpea mouska, beer battered fish.
1. beef rib was nicely sauced and tender, except little too much sauce which made too thick which over ride flavour of meat.
2. deep fried calamari came out with breadcrumb folling off all over, so it was bare calamari. and lemon was already squeezed which I didn't want any lemon zest...
3. chickpea moiska was very nice, hot, cheesy, couldn't fault.
4. beer battered fish....my son said it taste / smell like frozen. which it was ...

Service, atmospher is great, food is .....maybe room for improvement. as drinkinh bar its very good!!
My friends and I rocked up here by in search of vegan friendly food. We nearly walked out when we saw the trivia night happening. I literally went “this is the most whitest sh*t I’ve ever walked to”, obviously not in a bad way. As vegan I’m determined to try vegan friendly places no matter the awkward situation where every pub goer turns their heads to see if you’re lost lol.
Back to the food, omg hands down the best souvlaki I’ve ever had. I started questioning my friends if the fake chicken was real because it was that good. And for that alone, I’ll be back even if I dislike trivia nights!
David Baldini
The place is super nice, nice vibe, staff always on the run. As Vegan I tryed a good amount of their vegan snack which everyone crave about but is super far from plant based snack. It's super industrial vegan "street food" style, which is definitely not too healty. It does taste good? Not really...
Elle
The Cornish is cool but the Roof top! Wow! What a different vibe! A great view over Brunswick and toward the city - lovely! Bar staff were super friendly and helpful with cocktails and the heaters and blankets were a great touch on a windy afternoon. Really cool space. :)
Sorcha Ni Cruadhloaich
I love going to the Cornish Arms because I know I'll get some good pub food with the choice of meat or vegan if I feel up to it. Great choices available. Prices are reasonable. The only issue is the staff rush you to finish and leave so it's annoying when trying to catch up with friends. Always try and book a table in advance because they get quite busy.
Lilypad
Went on a Friday night, super packed but we got a table out in the beer garden. I got the vegan Mac daddy burger and it was amazing!! Tasted like a Big Mac, but the chips had no salt on them and there wasn’t any salt on the tables! So couldn’t really eat them. Had a few drinks too which were good and reasonably priced but the 2 male bartenders were both bit of a douchebag.
Will definitely return though for more vegan goodness!
Nissa
Amazing!! Had the vegan HSP which I've been after for a while, it definitely did not disappoint! the seitan mock meat was delicious and very realistic even to a relatively new vegetarian! bonus points for providing products such as deodorant, dry hair shampoo and tampons in the women's bathroom, that is definitely an amazing initiative that you dont usually see! 100% would recommend checking this place out
IloveMelbourne
Love the fact that they have a great vegan menu. I had the special 'fishless' tacos. They were delicious. The eggplant chips were yummy too. The rooftop bar has amazing views of the city. The rest of the table had other meals both vegan and non and they all loved their meals too.
Veganaut
Good for vegans and Omni friends but be warned it’s very heavy on the mock meats. I had the Parma which was very rubbery, had to put some salt on it even give it a bit of flavour. But the Mac n cheese bites were great I’ve also had some specials (bring back the cannelloni) and desserts here in the past which were very nice. Overall 3 stars says it’s ok.
Tardar Sauce
Nice rooftop pub. The chips were quite tasty but I didn’t love that they were served in brown paper bags like take away. We were sitting in. I had to ask for a bowl. Really nice sitting outside in the sun, taking in the view. I would come back here for more chips and drinks!
Diamond Nuts
Don’t know how to rate this hotel. 5 for food 1 for service. I had the steak that was on the special list. Was one of the better steaks I have eaten, cooked to perfection, tender, slight char with garlic butter. I was impressed, very impressed. I ordered mine with mash and veg. Veg was slightly under cooked or hard but that’s the way I like it so all good. Manager, owner staff member 🤷‍♂️ on the other hand was rude, short, unhappy etc. Maybe just having a bad day but our group nearly walked out as soon as we walked in. We’re told we couldn’t order drinks at the bar, what the? It’s a hotel. Couldn’t split the bill it just went down hill from there. Once he knew we were out of there he changed his mind and his attitude slightly but still grumpy. I’d still recommend though because of the food. Good luck 👍
Caroline Beaney
A few weeks back I ate dinner at The Cornish Arms. I tried the Hot N Spicy Box (vegan). Was ok, I really enjoyed the jalapeño poppers (needed more of them!) but was a bit meh about the rest of the box. The popcorn chicken was huge. Would have been nicer if each individual piece had been smaller. It was definitely an unhealthy option and I had wished I had ordered something healthier by the time I finished eating it but that’s my own fault! 😂

I really enjoyed the rooftop bar they have. It’s so nice and definitely the highlight of going to The Cornish Arms.

Downside was not realising it was open mic night downstairs. Was so loud and difficult to enjoy dinner but experience overall was redeemed by the rooftop area. If you want a quieter dining experience and not an open mic experience don’t go on a Tuesday, just for future warning 😊
Toby Chen
Atmosphere and vibe of the place is good, very chill, but the vegan food was very average and not sure worth it. Quick service for how busy it was when I was there though, but just a bit disappointed with from what I've heard and expected from the food.
Dan K
Good for a drink. Not good for a food. Got up and left before ordering when one of their wait staff had the most hideous attitude with us. Table beside us were in disbelief too - purely because we went to sit at another table when we didn’t hear her point us at the one that was set. Snapped at us that tables are to be booked and we can’t just sit wherever we like. Still stunned at her attitude. She nearly died on the spot though when we told her to lose the attitude as we left. That felt good. This is a pub, not a swanky restaurant as her attitude would lead you to believe.
Nean
I was gobsmacked at the amount of vegan options on the menu at a pub. I guess it's the neighbourhood. We had HSP (which had an awesome grain salad element - don't ask me which grain, it wasn't couscous or quinoa or freekah.). Half the menu was either vegan or vegan option. The chicken burger was even vegan option. My brother in law was chuffed. Just avoid Sydney Rd if you can 👍
Wraith_kabab
They have hearty vegan options which are served in big hungry-man portions.
The only issue is nothing is above average past 1 snack dish.
Nothing is bad, yet nothing is amazing. Straight down the middle.
KnowingMelbourne
This is a an old-school pub with a big space, loads of tables and a classic beer garden in the back. It’s not slick or shiny, but laid back and casual. The meals are huge and satisfying, but the best thing about it is that they have plenty of vegan friendly options. Definitely one to keep in mind if you want a vegan meal.
Yume Yume
Came in on a whim while being out for dinner and being someone that doesn’t particularly seek out pub food all the time, I will say I’ll come back here if I am ever feeling like a pub feed. The meal sizes were decent for the price and the quality is good.
The drinks are also decently priced and staff friendly.

What I most appreciated was the ratio of vegan to non-vegan food, I would say there are as many if not more vegetarian/vegan options as there were other meal options.

I’ll be back for sure as often pubs and vegetarian food are two things that don’t go hand in hand, however here, there is something for everyone.
Steph Schneider
Maybe the expectations were too high from social media, but i had been so excited to try out the vegan menu here but i was disappointed. I ordered the vegan chicken burger, the presentation was pretty poor and the food just didn't live up to the hype. The fried 'chicken' itself was pretty good, but the overall burger was not all that great. The staff were attentive and friendly and the cider was really good. The look of the restaurant was also pretty awesome as well.
Ashlee Adams
When thinking about vegan pub food, it is probably the first to come to mind. The Cornish Arms also just so happened to be the venue for my friend Steph’s birthday celebrations this year. Located at 163A Sydney Rd, Brunswick, The Cornish Arms has quite a lot of gluten free marked on the menu. With a beer garden out the back and a traditional pub feel I just wanted to sit back and relax. It definitely has those after work chill vibes. At first glance, it seems like a pretty good haven for those gluten free vegans. You can never assume though so, after receiving the invite I took the opportunity to find out if I’d be able to eat at this celebration.
Dee Dee
Good range of vegan pub meals. I've rocked up without a reservation a few times and have been lucky to get a seat easily without attitude, staff friendly too. More vegan desserts to compliment the numerous meal options would be great.
Phoenix
Q: Mr Phoenix, how is your (as advertised) $26 crispy skin pork belly?
A: Soggy skinned. Can you please ask Chef to grill it to an acceptable level of crispiness?

10 minutes later.

Q: Better?
A: Sorry, no. It's only been blow torched.

Angry look (I'm a backpacker, I'm hungover, you can't make me work like this)

10 minutes later. The original soggy skin had been hotplated with oil. Great. Burnt and greasy.

And thanks to the the waitress who slammed down our $200 bill on the table without a word of gratitude.

As for the hygiene issues: No hand wash in either bathroom. No toilet paper for the girls. Servers using their hair as pen holders, then serving food.

Get a grip kids.

Never again!
John Loc
Been here many times service good although they like you seated. I ordered the fish I'm 58 years of age and in all my time I have never paid $27.00 for a piece of Barramundi the size of a fish finger the salad was some sprouts sprinkled over the top with a tiny blob of sauce and 3 very thin pieces of shaved fennel . They seriously got lost on the plate. More like an entree size. For the price nothing special, lucky I wasn't hungry. If I wanted fine dining I wouldn't have gone to a pub.
Pauline Anne Azarcon
Came here for dinner with two other friends and had the steak with mushroom sauce; sauce was tasty and meat was very tender. However was a bit disappointed with the dessert, cheesecake was too sweet and the sticky date pudding had a strange texture to it. Would come back tho :)
Cass Mangan
Vegan options are so yummy and loved the options for dietary requirements. Such a funky set up and food was super affordable! Can’t fault the service, the people are so lovely! Definitely coming again :)
Jude D'Souza
The atmosphere, service and decor of this place is quite fun. A lot going on at this place during trivia nights and their busy times. The food was pretty good, better quality than you'll find at most pub/hotel type places.
Madeleine Scerri
The best range of vegan food at a pub!

Sometimes we vegans want to eat junk food and the Cornish Arms do this quite well! The vegan mac & cheese bites are amazing and I love that the vegan wines are clearly labelled.

I had the southern chicken burger and was left feeling satisfied with the flavour and size.

Would love for the kitchen to stay open a little later so I could have tried the desserts-next time!
Lil Miss Vegan
Love this place for their inventive vegan junk food meals. If you feel like pigging out then this is the place. I had the mock chicken burger and it hit the spot. Hot N Spicy chikn box is also a winner. Love sitting out the back courtyard in summer.
Jess Strauss
I came here with my sister and her partner for lunch. The environment was chill and relaxed. The food was great! And the portions were decent! Coming back again soon!
Iskybibble
What can say but this was a surprise packet. I had been here a checky quiet beer occasionally but I was totally impressed with the food this place puts out. In our group of ten there was only one compliant (he had the pizza and yes it wasnt great) but everything else was was great, my slow cooked lamb was one of if not the best pub meal of the year well done! This is a place to go for that pub meal you've been craving
Clairesy6
Low quality chicken (like the last remnants of a woolies BBQ chicken) used on the pollo pizza. The bacon was half fat and I also had a whole mouthful of fat which I think was from the chicken. Very disappointing especially since this place is so highly rated. I could make a better pizza myself for $18. The only positive was the BBQ sauce which topped the pizza. Very tasty and slightly smoky. The only good experience at the this noisy busy pub was the company of my friends.
Nat
This place is absolutely amazing. My friend had their vegan chicken burger and I had the Mac'daddy. For desserts we both had the brownie. Everything was just beautiful. It was probably the best brownie weve ever had.
Oh and did i mentiod, everything was VEGAN!
the only negative thing i have to say about this place, is our waitress wasnt very friendly. She probably had a bad day.
Thank you Cornish Arms for making such a beautiful pub-menu for vegans
Deffo coming back!!!!!
Mesut Ozil
Recently I visited the venue with my wife. We went to the bar to order a glass of wine each. The bartender then abruptly asked where we were sitting. At this stake we didn't have a designated seat so he refused to let us purchase a drink. Nothing much else to say besides we immediately left and won't return. Even if that is their policy to only serve people that have a designated seat, the way it was handled was pathetic.
Lim
Vegan chicken Parma.
I never knew i wanted it until i had it. The Cornish is a damn luxury of vegan pub food, everything on their menu is flipping delicious the one draw back is they don't have a takeaway license which means no takeaways and no uber eats.
Which is fine except for when you want their delicious food but cant handle being in a noisy ass pub.
Madivandersluys
Walked into the Cornish arms to a great vibe, was very busy for a Wednesday night. The service from staff was excellent, we were seated and served immediately. The food was amazing, with so many vegan options to choose from I was back again in two days and blown away by the vegan parmas. Would definitely recommend.
Themkc
Nice and relaxed atmosphere but terrible pizza. Had the texture of a scone. No chewiness from the dough (it hadn't been kneaded properly) and an anaemic undercooked colour — in fact some parts were still raw under the pumpkin sugo. Try something else here.

$15 wasted.
Sophie Stephens
The first time I visited I had the vegan meat pizza which was really good and the service was great but the second time I went I had the vegan Big Mac which wasn't so great and the service was alright. Generally good.
NimbleJerk
This is my favorite place to eat in Melbourne (I'm coming here tonight for my birthday) for an amazing naughty vegan meal. They do a vegan double down (KFC style) - say no more. Meat Loathers pizza and the "duck" here is delish too. Great beers on tap and I've never not found a seat. Meals are slightly exy but you get a huge serve and it tastes f&%#ing awesome.

We were walking past on a Saturday night and after looking at the menu decided to give it a go. It was busy and we didn't have a reservation but they still made room for us. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. The food was pub style, but next level. We had the gnocchi and the rib eye. Everything was incredible and the steak was better than the steak we had had at a gourmet steak restaurant recently.

Ordered the barramundi with potatoes and salad. Tasted nice but the portion size would have barley been enough for a child - not worth the $26 considering all the other plates are pretty huge.

Was really excited to come here after hearing great things. Although it was fine on the whole, we were disappointed with our meals and felt that the fake meat didn't live up to its hype. Service was prompt but felt a bit cold. At the end of the day it's still a pub, probably would have been more impressed if it wasn't talked up so much

This is typical pub grub done well - Parma's chips and salad a generous serving, I had the stuffed red peppers and they were delicious, extensive wine list and plenty of beer options service was quick and personable- and huge vegan offering, this pub has something for everyone

My vegan friend was saying how good this place is for vegan food so we decided to come here for dinner tonight. When I walked in one of my friends was there and our table wasn't ready yet. She was having a drink and I was having a water and it was pretty awkward because the staff kept telling us to move, finally we sat on a bench near the toilets, then at another table while we were waiting. One of the girls working here explained that the Cornish Arms used to be a pub but since they brought in the vegan food it has morphed into a restaurant type place.

When we were sitting at our table looking at the menu we saw that the menu catered to both vegans and meat lovers. We ordered some eggplant chips to share. The chips were sliced thinly and some were undercooked in the middle but it wasn't too much of a problem because they were so thin. They were crumbed with a delicious crumb and the chilli mayo that came with them was nice. One of my friends ordered the vegan "chicken burger", another one ordered the salt bush lamb, another one ordered the confit duck and I ordered the stuffed peppers 🌶. It's always a risk ordering vegetarian stuffed peppers/capsicum because sometimes they can be meh. Tonight's stuffed peppers came out looking beautiful and tasted delicious. The peppers were stuffed with flavoursome risotto, there was also olive drizzle of some sort which luckily didn't overtake, some nice feta and some micro herbs which were flavoursome. Every bite tasted different. It was strange because most of the peppers weren't spicy at all but there was one that was so spicy that my mouth was on fire, luckily they weren't all like that otherwise it would've ruined the meal. Everyone else enjoyed their meals.

Towards the end of the night the staff were packing up and the music was getting louder, I thought they were going to turn this place into a pub or club but it turns out they were just closing. It was a bit awkward at first with the staff but they were really nice in the end. I would definitely come back here and possibly try the confit duck.

My friend took me here on a nice day. I ordered the chickpea moussaka and I was amazed by the size of this! I looked around and everyone's dishes look massive!

I had fun eating this dish. The vegan cheese was very stringy and the moussaka tasted really nice. My least favourite thing would be the rocket as it was too bitter. I don't mind it because the moussaka was so good! I can't wait to come back here to try out other dishes, also the serving sizes are really worth your money! $

I really dig that they had a vegan menu and the spot is pretty cool with nice vibes. Their biggest let down is their unfriendly wait staff. Like I understand that it's über cool for hipsters to have a certain air of pretentiousness - but guys, you're getting paid a wage to serve me my beer with a smile and some manners. Super disappointed at how rude and snobby everyone was here as I had heard such great things. Pls hire people who ACTUALLY enjoy catering to a mixed demographic of people and who do it with a smile on their god dam faces.

In a city of crummy service this place stands out like a shiny gold star. The waitresses are so fast and efficient. I barely finished my drink before they swept by to clear it away and ask I wanted another. I've been in hospo forever and trained/worked a lot overseas and it's so awesome to see such great service in Melb. There's nothing worse than an overly chatty douchey waiter who can't do his job and makes it up in small-talk that you don't want - this is the opposite, superstar ladies who are constantly scanning the floor and working as a team. Great products as well and a chill vibe - the place feels like a home away from home. Good job guys, I'll be back! :)

I go here all the time. Staff are lovely and service is fast. Love that every night has something different going on offer wise. My bestie is vegan and I'm not so the menu suits us both 😊 only downfall is it gets so busy that you need a reservation and they don't have an easy option to book a table, you need to phone them.

Nice venue and vibrant menu options completely overshadowed by the shocking customer service. The males who work at the bar offer possibly the worst customer service in Melbourne and really need a new profession. When we came up to pay the bill the bartender went from surly to boarder line aggressive. Management needs to intervene as the friend I went with said the behavior was typical for this venu. Don't bother asking for your bill.. You're better off to dine and dash to avoid these guys.

Best vegan pub hands down. Always enjoy it here. I would love to see more healthier options that are tasty & still considered pub friendly food. I tried a vegan special here that were cheesy arancini like balls over rice. That's been my favourite lighter meal. Their souvlaki began pizza is amazing!!

One HAS to book a table in advance for Dinner here because it's always packed! Yep a full house at a restaurant always speaks volumes of the food as well as the vibe!

I'm vegetarian and the food i had tonight was the best vegetarian "non vegetarian" food I've had in Melbourne so far!
Ordered the vegan seafood basket and the Vegan special for the day which was fried rice, pork spring rolls, prawn crackers and chicken Satay!
The food was absolutely delicious! The fish and chips basket was a play on different sea food textures and the aioli which came with it was delicious too!

The fried rice was packed with texture and flavour from the bacon, the deep fried onions on top as well as the cilantro - so good!

The chicken Satay with the Satay sauce was great too! So was the pork spring roll - delicious and flavoursome! I even liked the little serve of salad on the side.

I would've given this place a higher rating if the dessert hadn't been such a let down. Ordered the mixed berries and the peanut chocolate chip cheesecakes - below average at best.
The mixed berries cheesecake was particularly unpleasant because of the texture. It was way too dense and stodgy, had a terrible mouth feel to it! Ugh.

The Peanut butter chocolate chip cheesecake was slightly better but couldn't do much to make up for the other one.
For someone like me, dessert is more important than the actual meal so it was a massive let down.

But otherwise ,the vibe of the place is upbeat and electric! Service isn't the best but the great food makes up for it!

I'll definitely be going back sometimes for their spectacular vegetarian food! Maybe on their open mic night (Mondays!)

Great venue! Lots of seating which is needed because of how popular this place is! BOOK IN ADVANCE.

The reason why this place is great is because of the extensive menu for meat eaters, vegetarians AND vegans. Also a good selection of beers and wines.

I (Nic) sometimes order the vegan food here and love it due to how it's prepared and served. Food is always prompt, delicious and plentiful in the servings.

Absolutely would recommend if you're in the area and can get a seat!

Went here with a vegan friend who absolutely loved it. She had the fishermans basket and was very impressed with the vast vegan menu. However my burger was far from good, all I could taste was spice. I didn't even finish it which is unheard of. The place has a good vibe but I wouldn't rush back.
LAC
Great to see a vegan menu with some variety!
Had a lovely salad which was fresh and tasty. Meals are quite big here which was great. Casual service, but still attentive.
Rebecca
Went here alone on V Day (forever alone) and ordered a GF Vegan Chicken Burger. While it's not the best burger I've had, it was still pretty decent considering the dietary restrictions.

Set up was awesome, grungy indoor area along with a cosy courtyard.

PS. should add that this place sells meat as well, but do not be fooled - the vegan menu is extensive.

Edit 03/12/17: Tried this place again and opted for the GFO/VO mushroom burger. It’s gained an extra star from me! This burger was leaps and bounds from the chicken burger I had last time.

This place has a great pub atmosphere. Service was, for me, the perfect amount of interaction but perhaps not enough for people who like to go to non-pub restaurants. The food came out pretty quickly and the portion sizes re great value. I had the vegan special (despite being a meat eater) and I can tell you I did not at all miss meat on my plate. Crumbed mushrooms stuffed with three kinds of cheese (which tasted like real cheese unlike a lot of vegan substitutes) on a Mediterranean salad for only $20. I was definitely full afterwards and it was one of the best meals I've ever had in a pub.
Beer selection was big enough. The only problem was I ordered chips and the waiter forgot to write it down so I never got them, but the whole table was ordering at once so it was a bit confusing.

Foods good here but the wait is ridiculous
I've been sitting here for maybe 50 mins now and me and my girlfriend still haven't gotten our food
Hope it comes soon 😔

Great hang out or meeting joint. Only really eat the parmas there which are fantastic. Perfectly cooked and a short wait. Its now table service which is a lot less annoying then when we had to order at the bar with a line up.

My favourite vegan "pub grub" !! Brought my non meat eating Dad here earlier during Christmas and ordered him the (vegan) seafood basket - he had NO idea it wasn't seafood!! The taste and texture is SPOT ON! We came back here a second time recently. I've tried the Veg burgers, the mock chicken salad (amazzzzingggggly delicious). They have tons of options.. as well as non-beg options too. Place has great atmosphere and ciders and beers are cold too :)

Ate here for the first time last night. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Sat at the bar because there were no tables. The place was pretty full. Good menu with a huge range of vegan options. I went the vegan fisherman's basket which was great - fish, prawns and calamari. Mock seafood can sometimes be a bit iffy but this was all really tops. My wife had the black bean burger (which I think maybe wasn't vegan). That looked good. Both meals came with a generous amount of hand-cut chips. There was a good atmosphere. Music wasn't too loud. Look forward to coming back to try the other vegan stuff.

Vegan food was okay but when we sat down the table was really dirty and we had to clean it ourselves.... service was a bit rude but that was fine
Spudsburgeradventures
Great pub that also does great food, with great vegetarian and vegan options. Constantly busy so you may want to book ahead. I had the Goblin burger which was a very good pub burger and all the other friends I dined with enjoyed their food, plus the servings more than enough. Great atmosphere and friendly staff top a great experience.

I have been to the Cornish arms twice now and I have loved it so much both times! Places like The Cornish Arms make being vegan easy, they offer a wide variety of your favourite typical pub food veganised! I almost cried tears of joy when I first discovered their vegan Parma! Not only that but they also have some of the most amazing vegan deserts I've ever tried! All of this along side with friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere, I think I've found my favourite place to eat out in Melbourne ❤
Damagemanagement
Second trip to this Melbourne icon and not disappointed. A vego/vegan centric pub with great traditional pub food for the carnivores and a redux of many traditional meals in vego and vegan form. I had the Vegan Souvlaki which is fantastic. Good drinks choice too. We landed as the twice weekly Trivia night kicked off so gate crashed a table and helped them to third place. A place to make a regular haunt in Melbourne for sure.
Vegieface
One of my favorite places in Melbourne. Vegetarian and vegan options are always perfectly executed - highly recommend as I've never had a bad experience.
The staff are always lovely and accommodating. Doesn't matter when you go, whether it's you and a friend for a mid-afternoon catch-up, or two people for dinner, or a group of friends for dinner when the restaurant is packed, staff never make you feel rushed or unwanted, and the vibe and ambience is always great.

Nice very laid back and very casual pub, great for a relaxing catch up with friends. Staff were pleasant. Nice little beer 🍻 garden. But its just a bit dark in there, even in the afternoon. Will definitely go back to try the meals 🍴
FoodingAroundMelbourne
Quite a good meal here but the absolute stand out is the Parma. Holy crap, it's blow your socks off delish. Trivia here is also fun, but book in advance or you won't get a table.
Split The Bill
First time experience and found that The Cornish Arms Hotel is a great pub to catch up with friends, even if it's over vegan pizza. Atmosphere was quite nice, inviting, trivia night on Thursday's. was packed out, though managed to find a table in the beer garden which was quite nice.

Staff were very friendly, reliable as they catered for everyone's needs even though it was busy. Delivered service promptly.

Reasonably priced, pots of cider were $5 staff made us aware of this when ordering to cater for cheaper beverages, def value for money.

Will revisit and try their vegan chicken parmigiana next time, great variety on their menu which includes vegan dishes + dishes for meat eaters.
MG

Went there for a casual dinner. Place itself looks a little questionable but wait staff were lovely and found us a table even tho we didnt have a reservation. Food was nice, seems to have a lot of vegan options. Not a typical pub place i thought it may have been. They had tvs on for those watching sports. There's the restaurant area, as well as bar area with high tables and a beer garden. Its ok for a quick casual visit.

Love this place food is good, staff are great and it's just got a great vibe. Try the vegan options if you're here
Senem Döner
Awesome vegan and vegetarian food in the hood! Relaxed atmosphere, good, cheap food and cheap drinks. One of the best beer gardens to hang out and relax with your mates. Just make sure you book your table for dinner because this place would be book out pretty quickly.
Charlotte Huddle
A really good venue, menu is definitely a cut above the average pub that's for sure, with options like duck gnocchi, stuffed tomatoes and an array of vegan options, plus the typical Parma and chips. Spoilt for choice! On this occasion I ordered the tandoori pizza, which was delicious. Good size and only $14, so a real winner! Everyone was happy with their food. Service was a tad slow, and it was difficult to get anyone to our table to order, however once the food arrived we were all very happy!

Best trivia in Melbourne on Thursday nights. Book a couple of days ahead or you won't get a table. Standard pub food, but with a great vegan menu too. Decent beer and wine list focusing on local and vegan.
