Review Foxtrot Charlie - Brunswick

Hoofprints AndPaws
Best chilli scramble ever. The service is great and the staff are warm and friendly. It’s a great place for brunch on a rainy Saturday morning. This is the closest you’ll get to Luke’s diner from Gilmore Girls in Brunswick.

What a great cafe. You will be treated by friendly staff who are very attentive to make sure you are happy. The poached chicken salad is so good. Many choices on the menu from snacks, sandwiches and larger meals. The coffee is delicious and the decor is uber cool. Don’t drive or walk past, drop in and enjoy.

Recently tried the new wood-fire pizzas at FoxTrot Charlie and am more than impressed. Best pizza crust in Brunswick, and the most lovely staff :)

Love the space and the decor. staff were so welcoming and friendly too. Really nice to interact first thing on a Sunday. The latte selection (matcha, turmeric, beetroot) was what made me stop in. I always try the almond croissant if on offer at a new cafe. Sadly, this one wasn't the best. Might have been a few days old (fair enough, as I stopped in early Sunday morning), but the faintly fermented taste of almond filling syrup was not to my fancy. And it was a bit too dry. Would come back again to try the other food as the pastries look good. Maybe the savoury options are the way to go. Would direct to other reviewers for food review as I only had the croissant.

Pretty good restaurant. Nice and clean venue. However, there were some minor feedbacks. I stood for a while and no one asked if I wanted to dine in or take away. It was really awkward. The coffee and the food was okay, not the best out there but definitely better than average. I got a latte and the pulled lamb burger added mushroom in. The waiting period for the drink and then for the food was a bit long but they all came out hot and fresh so I guess it is okay, just have something to do or some friends to talk to while waiting. I actually was interested in the Mushroom Monsieur comments from a lot of people which I didn't notice they were all 2 years ago. And the menu picture on Google Map still had it. Hence, it was kinda bummer when I got told it is available no more when I got there. So if you are looking for that one, just a head up. Overall still recommended if you are near.

This place is amazing! Great space, including a big share table and outdoor dining is available too. Staff were friendly and welcoming right away, the coffee was delicious and went down very well. Good didn't take long to come out, I find their fishes very inventive, the mushroom Monsieur was a work of art. One of the best breakfast places in the area.

My family with a visiting friend tried Foxtrot Charlie on a post lockdown Sunday morning. It’s a great find: fabulous decor. Everyone else tried conventional egg breakfasts. I reckon my granola with yoghurt and pear was the best. Coffee was great too. We were out the back in the post industrial spot. Despite being away from everyone else service was still prompt.

If i needed to describe this place in one word it would be overrated. The interior design of this place is good, creating a good ambience. However the food was bleh. I ordered the baked eggs in tomato sugo, it was bad. I only ate the eggs with a little bit of toast. I don't recommen this place.

Place was lovely. Customer service was exceptional, so friendly and attentive. Coffee was amazing and the eggplant parmigiana focaccia was to die for!! Will definitely be making this my regular.

Just the best coffee in town with first class baristas !!

Coffee great, service great but unfortunately charged extra to swap an 1 item on the menu.

Foxtrot Charlie never disappoints. Coffee is great, food never disappoints and staff are awesome. When in Brunswick there's only one place to go Foxtrot Charlie !!!!!

Delicious food and friendly staff. I'll be back for the baked eggs! 👌

Super amazing and friendly staff and really tasty coffee. Let down a bit by the food though.

I think this place has changed owners. It has lost its class.

Loved this place! The decor is stunning with high ceilings, dreamy minimalist aesthetics and a good playlist it's easy to spend some time here. Had one of the most flavourful pasta dishes here with delicate presentation, I'll be back to try out more for sure.<br/><br/>Coffee was fantastic, smooth and creamy, soy chai had tons of flavour aswell.<br/><br/>The staff were wonderful, friendly attentive and great eye for detail never had to reach for the water jug but also didn't feel overbearing. A great spot to stop by, would recommend 10/10

Pleasant eatery in Brunswick offering your typical cafe meals, eggs on toast ($9) and coffee. A lot of space, great for larger groups with an extra section out the back.

What an inviting modern fitout and with a massive Yugoslavian Airlines plane model hanging from the ceiling adds a nice touch. Perusing the menu and instantly the corn crumpets caught my eye as anything with corn will alway grab my attention. I don't kown why but i just adore corn, and with all the different types of lattes on offer like beetroot and broccoli, why not a Corn Latte? Anyway lets get serious and back to reality and those Corn Crumpets. Firstly it was one Crumpet and not crumpets as printed on the menu, secondly it wasn't a crumpet as its texture was more like a corn cake and finally regadless of these discrepancies it was bloody awesome. The corn cake was light and fluffy and when combined with the paprika butter, tomato jam and the oozing egg yolk, it all worked and i loved it to the end. This is my sort of Sunday brunch meal. Also you can split the bill here as increasingly i am becoming less tolerant to places not allowing split bills on weekend. Get serious cafe proprietors, we are close to a totally cashless society so get with the program as customer comes first.
Amanda N
Good food and Chai latte but keep in mind they don't have mayonnaise or aioli, they will instead offer tomato jam which is good but it's not the same!  Creamy aioli on scrambled eggs is a must

3.5+<br/>Mid week late lunch.<br/>Big modern open and spacious environment.<br/>Excellent staff with prompt service.<br/>The Vietnamese Crepe is magnificent.

I’m a regular at foxtrot, I keep coming back because of their ridiculously good coffee. Being a local, I’ve tried a lot of coffee in the area. The pros with this place is the friendly staff, consistent coffee and killer beans.
Tara Williamson
Very alternative menu. No standard eggs beny but what I did order tasted great and the coffee was awesome. Very Brunswick hipster which appeals to some but unfortunately not me.

All the right elements but lacking something to pull them all together.<br/><br/>From the outside this cafe doesn't look that big but when you enter its spacious with an interior which is able to feel comfortable and industrial at the same time.<br/><br/>As I sat down the music playing took me back to the 80s and I was feeling quite relaxed as I waited for my companion to arrive. But... after about 5 minutes the door had opened dozens of times .. and took about 20 seconds to close ... each time bringing an icy blast with it. This became very annoying very quickly!<br/><br/>Luckily the place was still relatively empty so I was able to find another spot outside of the wind tunnel.<br/><br/>The menu offers a different range of food to the usual with a few daily specials.<br/><br/>My companion had the Breakfast Vegan Salad which they found to be very tasty and with a smooth tangy macadamia and lime dressing which brought the dish together. <br/><br/>I had the corn crumpets with smoked paprika butter, tomato jam and friend egg. The meal was too heavily weighted towards the corn .. lots of corn kernals and corn crumpet (which was more like cross between a corn scone and a corn muffin). There was some sort of puree on the plate but I am not sure what it was and the tomato jam was quite bland and did nothing to balance the strong corn flavour. It wasn't unpleasant but is not something I'd choose again.<br/><br/>The coffee was smooth and well made and my companions chi late was smooth and sweet.<br/><br/>The service was adequate but didn't feel any more than routine. <br/><br/>This cafe has all the elements that should make a really good cafe but there is something lacking to bring it all together. <br/><br/>3.0* - food .. a menu offering a range of different choices but not much that tempted me to return.<br/><br/>3.0* - service - adequate but nothing special.<br/><br/>1.5* - Ambience - plenty of space between the tables, great music and comfortable seating but the draft from the door is very annoying.

Staff were very friendly and service was quick. We came shortly after the Sunday brunch rush so we we're seated quickly.<br/>Coffee was nice and strong but needed to be hotter. We both had the baked eggs, eggs were overcooked and so not runny, but the sauce was nice and was very hot foe a cold winters day.<br/>

Coffee: 8.5/10<br/>Breakfast: 10/10<br/>Staff/service: 10/10<br/><br/>Nice cafe, beautiful food, lovely company, no complaints here.<br/><br/>Would 100% recommend going to this cafe, one of the best in the area.

Came here for a Saturday brunch with the boys.<br/>I was quickly greeted and sat where my friend was already waiting.<br/>The place was probably half empty which suited us fine as it gave plenty of time for us to converse and be heard. And you didn't have to look everywhere to be served or ask a query. <br/>Atmosphere 3/5.<br/>Service 4/5<br/>I had two coffees, a flat white and a long black. The flat white fell flat it didn't have enough depth of flavour and was just watery. The long black was on par - nice full of flavour and the correct strength.<br/>Coffee 3/5<br/>I ordered the Salmon Gravlax, I didn't even know what a gravlax was but decided to go for that option. I must say I was surprised, what didn't work as individual elements came together if you had everything in one bite.Food 4/5.<br/>In terms of value for money - I would consider it stock pricing in the area and nothing too stand out.<br/>Value 3/5.

Ambience: 3.5/5<br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Staff: 4/5<br/>Will I return: if I’m in the area again <br/><br/>Came here for an impromptu lunch one weekday with a girlfriend. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The cafe itself was clean and nice but the decor itself wasn’t too special and was just a bit typical. <br/>We both ordered a sandwich each and the price was really reasonable with $7.50 and $9.50 each. The main dishes on the menu appear to be pricier, more typical of what any cafe would charge. However, we did not try the menu dishes so I cannot comment on their value. <br/><br/>The sandwiches both tastes really nice and both were toasted well with the bread crunchy yet soft and not too hard. The coffee was also really good. <br/>Will consider visiting again if I’m ever in the area again.<br/>

I adore this place! The high ceilings and minimalist decor is exceptional. I had the most delicious pasta - tagliatelle with mixed mushroom. Ate up every last bit! Soy chai was also spot on. All my friends enjoyed their meals. Staff were helpful and it was the little things they did that stood out, like removing plates from the table promptly and refilling the water jug without us having to ask. Definitely worth a visit.
HC
The food that I ordered is really big and I couldn’t finish, but it’s really yum, the beef is very tender! And I ask for take away, the staff is really friendly. In addition, the place is really comfortable, the location is easy to find and near tram station.
Famished Frog
Situated on the busy Sydney road, you may just walk past this unassuming place if you're not payng attention. The inside is clean and crisp with a deli by the entrance showcasing freshly made sandwiches and desserts. We ordered the mushroom tagliatelle and king oyster mushroom bruschetta. The tagliatelle was creamy with a mountain of egg pasta surrounded by various mushrooms. The bruschetta that came with the king oyster mushroom was not as crunchy as expected but the dish was pleasant overall. If you like your coffee strong and bitter, order the cold drip.

Just had the baked eggs and it was like tomato soup with pooched eggs put on top with a dollop of cheese. A guy at the register asked how everything was and I was honest in explaining that the breakfast was not satisfactory and got no response.
KateC
Staff are always welcoming in this beautifully fitted out cafe. Tea and coffee are both excellent, and food is consistently very good. There are always a couple of specials listed in the tables which are oh so tempting. There is space for children with high chairs available as well as a few toys to keep them busy.

I love the interior design of Foxtrot, very modern and inviting. Cool concept with the use of NATO phonetic theme commonly used in aviation and military forces. The coffee here was fantastic and staff are very friendly. The food display cabinet are not full though and very limited breakfast options. We ordered the Vietnamese savoury crepe and walnut dates to share. Food were well presented and are delish. Will definitely return.

Nothing special, the food isn't bad but not worth a second visit. Got the baked eggs as it's usually telling, was mediocre. They had also run out of cold brew.

Great coffee, food and service! I am now a regular at this place. The coffee is consistent and the staff are so friendly. I can't get enough of this place! Good work guys 🙌🏼👍🏼☕️🍞✨

I loved my breakfast experience here on saturday morning! To start with my cappuccino was like caramel- smooth and creamy with no bitterness at all. I then ordered the king oyster mushrooms. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Juicy, chewy and perfectly seasoned. The parsley and caper sauce was served a light green paste. This combined with the soft poached eggs, the baked ricotta and the mushrooms was to die for. The baked ricotta was cooked similarly to haloumi and worked fabulously in this dish. The crunchy bread combined with the saltiness of the ricotta, juicy texture of the oyster mushrooms and the kick of the parsley and the capers really worked for me. I would definitely order it again. My only qualm with this dish is that the thin bread croutons were the only bread it came with. If you are starving you may want to order some bread on the side. My girlfriend ordered the baked eggs which she also said were delicious. Service was excellent.

This place has great coffee, Awesome milkshakes, is always clean and has plenty of room. The service is always top notch. I have to say though that I find the food hit and miss. So much to the point that this place has become an occasional coffee stop in Sydney Rd but nothing more. I'm sure there will be many that will disagree with me, but they just don't seem to be able to get our meals right when we go. Try it for yourself. Hopefully over time I will be proven wrong and may be persuaded to make this a regular jaunt again.

For a first time trying out the place, it was a little disappointing when it came to the food ordered. Maybe expectations were too high; or it just so happened that the dishes chosen from the menu do not suit our taste. However everything else was great: the coffee, the staff, the service and the ambience. Would not mind going back to try other dishes on the menu.

Absolutely fantastic! I had the pork belly breakfast which was amazing (I felt bad I couldn't finish it). Coffee was brilliant too, full of flavour, perfect temperature, and very well textured.

Please please update your Zomato menu regularly as possible to match your ever changing menu. I was hoping to get at least real vegan option on the lunch menu but was rather disappointed to found out there was none. I ended up getting vegetarian option turned into vegan. I tell you what it's never the same reconstructing menu items to suits dietary needs, please be progressive your restaurant is at one of the trendiest suburbs...

I'm surprised to see this cafe hovering just below 4 (at time of review) - it's a great place! The cakes are AMAZING and the coffee is really very good. Lunch was pleasant, good tasty cafe food. Staff are nice. The place is clean and has a lovely atmosphere. Can't think of any faults. All good.

Stumbled across this place and it definitely didn't disappoint. The coffee was amazing! Couldn't find almond milk in the menu but don't worry, they had it! <br/>Very friendly staff and the chicken & chorizo tortilla was just.. Awesome.. Definitely will be coming back. <br/>

Food was oily and otherwise flavourless - the Rosti was soggy as if it had been microwaved from frozen and lacked seasoning. Coffee was good and service was friendly and warm. Would be great if they lifted the food game coz everything else was lovely.

The essentials:<br/>- Amazing ambiance<br/>- Great coffee<br/>- Great staff & service<br/><br/>The review:<br/>I just had a coffee but this place has become a new favorite. Amazing. The ambience is probably the best on Sydney road and the fact that they roast their own coffee just makes it stand out. Coffee is rather strong but still tasty and full of flavours.

Really pleasant layout, love a big table you can chill on. Coffee was top notch, and the food is very good. I had a Cuban Style toasties, which was delicious and big. Do yourself a favour...

Great coffee and great food service never misses a beat either. It's a bit on the expensive side. .

Came here for brunch on a Sunday with a girlfriend. Quick service. Food came out in about 10 minutes from ordering. Baked eggs in sugo was delicious and filling. Apple juice was also fresh. Split the bill. The above came to $22. Will be back

I only come here for the coffee, so my review is only of the coffee... and it is perfect. And not just every now and then, all the time. I only wish it were closer to home so I could become a regular.

I love the coffee at Foxtrot Charlie and appreciate the thoughtful design that extends to elegant glass, cutlery, plateware and fresh flowers. The food is consistently excellent, with the baked eggs a favourite of ours. I am hugely impressed by the (house baked?) gluten free bread and exquisite butter and would happily have coffee and toast there every day. Staff are always friendly and the owner is totally committed. The drawbacks from my perspective are that the service can be variable (and sometimes the coffee making is too) and the menu is pretty small and doesn't alter. I think the addition of seasonal specials would possibly create the variety I crave.
Elena Loz
We decided to give FC a go today. Spacious and alternative/modern interior with great service and friendly staff. We found it a little hard to choose from the menu as nothing jumped out. We ended up choosing the Baked Eggs and The Sweet Sicilian (ricotta fritter). Both dishes were pleasant, but no 'wow' factor. Baked eggs were a very generous serving, however the ricotta fritter was definitely on the smaller side. Food was good overall, but could be more refined. Coffee was outstanding!

So FC what's happening?<br/><br/>It was a busy morning, good to have the front table.<br/><br/>Looks like a very well thought establishment; wide and long, very well fitted & set up, coffee bar at the front, big jumbo 747 Czechoslovakia airlines hanging on the ceiling. <br/><br/>Fantastic coffee, good food albeit a bit pricey and good pleasant service too.<br/><br/>Worth the trip and we'll be coming back at some stage.
Jason MM
Our local, always great coffee. The service is always friendly and the food is sensational.  <br/>We often have Sunday Lunch with friends here as the space is very kool

Nice atmosphere and great food. Awesome service. <br/><br/>Order was mixed up but staff kindly rectified and offered to reduce bill which was thoughtful. <br/><br/>Would recommend you check it out especially the lunch specials.

This place is beautiful! Atmosphere is calm and clean. Food is fantastic, and coffee is always on point. The beef brisket will keep me coming back!

I'm no critic but I've been deep in hospo for ages and it's not hard to tell this place is getting it all done right! You've gotta be a full on drongo to not give this place 6/5 , place looks good , so clean it makes your hangover feel cleaner if you know what I mean? I've had a heap of coffee and this place makes the best by far,and they roast (and blend?) their own !!!! God dam best coffee I'll ever have . The staff are pretty rad too! Stop messin around with shitty places and get down ere!!!
Momo
Merci Foxtrot Charlie team! Amazing breakfast, cooked perfectly. Nice cap (thxs barista) and fresh orange juice. Keep going guys!!!😃😄☕️👌🙃🍭

This cafe located on busy Sydney road immediately takes you in to a modern setting featuring a contemporary interior with a large seating area and a long hallway that branches out to a smaller area. This current relaxed clean cut cafe feels slightly upper class and offers a broad menu to suit all dietary requirements. I came in here for a late lunch with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and the place was moderately busy. We were seated abruptly by friendly staff and we opted to sit out the back down the long hall next to the kitchen. Started off with a long soy iced macchiato which was deliciously smooth and intense in flavour. We than order the vegan salad made up of a moist beetroot chickpea cake, with silverbeet, sugar snap peas, radish, mixed herbs, tamari roasted pumpkin seeds and a cashew milk mustard dressing which was well balanced in terms of acid and creaminess. Also ordered was the special of a coconut tapioca pudding with passionfruit, cocoa muesli & finished with candied lime which was refreshing and fruity but could have had more of a coconut flavour. Great food, coffee and service served in a current chilled environment and would recommend if you are after a classy feed and need to escape the upbeat atmosphere of Sydney road.
Dani-licious
Let's start with the good. The coffee was delicious - smooth, just right. I had two cups. The bad - baked eggs. The eggs were not baked, they were poached and then put in the rather bland tomato sauce. Too much sauce and not baked :-(
Hania Trzaskowski
Here is my story. I came in one morning for a coffee. I asked for a coffee to have in, long macchiato, a real traditional one, with a dash of cold milk layered into the coffee rather than thr lazy long mac consisting of a shot of coffee with a bit of milk froth ontop. The guy happily said that's exactly how he makes them with a smile, and we chat about barista training. I sat down, and then had the guy come up to me with a take away cup. He said ' oooh, sorry I totally forgot you were having it here!', then turned around, poured my coffee into a cold cup, and handed it to me. The result was a Luke warm tiny flat white. And for this I paid nearly $5? I decided not to let this ruin my day, but will always advise everyone I know not to go there if this was their idea of five bucks well spent for a customer, considering a cup of coffee costs only a few cents to make. <br/>My 6 yr old could make a better cup of coffee, and she makes me cold tea parties, And it at least doesn't cost me anything.
Jacob Atkins
My coffee was lukewarm, so by the time I was half way through it was cold. The food was also not hot enough, and fairly bland. Service was alright. The overall vibe seemed to be a lot of attention paid to style and not to substance, although the plane is really cool.
Caitlyn McKenzie
The space at FC is really light and pleasant. I sat in for the afternoon for two coffee dates. I wasn't a huge fan of the chai latte. The excess of cinnamon flattens the milk. Chai should not just be a lot of cinnamon in milk, and were the mix/supplier used a bit more carefully blended it would improve significantly. <br/>I also had a lemonade and shared a chocolate cake dessert off the lunch menu. The small batch soft drinks were served very cold, which was great, and were lovely. Splitting the cake with a friend, the wait staff wished us luck finishing it. It did strike me that if the venue considered it too much for two, then it was a poorly considered dish for one. The cake was lovely, but extremely rich and almost too much for two. Portion size should be looked at with a bit of common sense.

I stopped by this cafe with friends at around 2PM on a Saturday afternoon and it was fairly full at this time. My friends and I were here just to enjoy some coffee/tea but the food available was definitely tempting! A few customers were having brunch and it smelt amazing. Nevertheless, the cappuccino I had was quite nice but it wasn't that strong (I didn't add sugar to my coffee). Service was reasonably quick and the staff were nice and friendly. The next time I'm in the area, I'll make sure to try the food there.
Liz O'Connor
Excellent service great coffee, milkshakes were a winner with kids as s well. Breakfast servings were a little small but all in all great place. We'll be back!
Snow
Now this would have to be a definite favourite breakfasts for me, been here probably 4 times and happy 4 times, great quick service and all food so far has impressed, and nice coffee too
Hello. Imnikki
Modern spacious interior serving great food. I really enjoyed my St Joseph's Day Fritters (pictured). The Stinging Nettle open omelette that my partner ordered was simple and good but could have benefited from more spices to kick it up a notch. Our lattes had a smooth aftertaste but could have been sharper.
TBMoftheWEST
Driven past many a time, and finally got a chance - albeit a brief one - to stop in for a coffee. <br/>Easily the best coffee I've had on Sydney Rd, and possibly in Brunswick. <br/>Fit out was very easy on the eye, particularly the front section. <br/>Special mention for the floating aircraft - classic vintage!

After some time exploring further afield we stayed closer to home to check out Foxtrot Charlie on Sydney road in Brunswick. In an urban area which is traditionally space-poor the huge space available at Foxtrot Charlie is quite a surprise when you walk in the door. Everything in the cafe is slick and polished, it’s modern with the quirky touches you’d expect from a Brunswick locale.  We started with lattes. The beans are roasted in house and the brew has a rich and full bodied flavour. It flits to the edge of extraction but remains perfectly balanced. Starting the day with a coffee like this will definitely put you in a good mood. Our first choice from the menu was a toastie, cheesy with thick cut ham hock and coated in a beschemel sauce. This toastie is just cheesy, creamy and all round delicious. There’s no better way to describe it than heaven on a plate. If you’re a fan of a good hunk of meat and cheese for breakfast than you’ll enjoy this dish! Finally we tried the spelt and almond waffle, served with spiced strawberry and a sabayon cream. The flavour was nice without being overly sweet and the waffle was surprisingly light. Sabayon is a French take on a creamy custard, with just a little sweet wine and a light texture that goes perfectly with the waffles and fruit. Overall it was a lovely sweet option for breakfast.

Amazing brunch at this sparkling cafe i never knew was even there! Coffee was spectacular, the service friendly and prompt, and the food just delectable. There are plenty of cafes to visit in Brunswick, but if you want to 'eat' you come to Foxtrot Charlie. The coffee is roasted on site, and the interior fit-out is tip top. A 'must go to' cafe no matter where you live...
Thosemelbournianfoodies
Foxtrot Charlie is the perfect place to Zone out before work over coffee and a simple toast. The coffee is impeccable and the chocolate milkshake is also one of our faves. The interior design is a mixture of elegance, raw and then down the back a white wood Hamptons vibe! A must try when in need for a coffee break!
Out And About
This spot won't disappoint for a "3rd wave" hipster cafe. With cement featured plaster, recycled timber, tungsten low light bulbs and food served on wood planks, it's trendy and has a decent vibe.
Lida Cheung
Came here with my boyfriend and was seated immediately. I ordered the Smoked Hock Croque for $15. When it came out I was suprised, it was tiny! the flavours and textures were great but I just couldn't get over the fact that it was so small.. have had Croque elsewhere and have definitely had better both taste and size. However coffee was great as well as service.
Rakesh Maharjan
Poached egg and toast extra sausages ?? This is what you get. Worth it for 14.5 nah .. Nice place tho, might be my choice is wrong but definitely need some change. Maybe even some greens or micro herbs at least.. Would not come back here for the food as it is grossly over priced.
Q
A modern cafe on Sydney road that has such good coffee. I come here often for lunch and atmosphere is casual and inviting. We used their function room upstairs during a hot December's day but unfortunately we were left sweating because there's no air cond. An oversight I hope they'll rectify as its a great venue.
LunaElectric
Love it here, inventive menu with unique ingredients. Something I always want from eating out is a dish I can't make easily at home. Foxtrot Charlie delivers! Haven't tried many of the lunch options but you can't really go wrong with any of the breakfast choices. Good coffee too. Staff are always friendly and the interior is fresh and modern. Recommended to all!
TOT: HOT OR NOT
When you walk through the door of Foxtrot Charlie, look up. The soaring model aeroplane (which entranced Baby 2.0) will explain the name of this Brunswick family-friendly cafe. The cafe’s typically narrow frontage on Sydney Road expands out into a surprisingly spacious area divided into two segments. Basically, there’s the adults area and a kids area and it’s all uber-stylish thanks to local Brunswick designers ZWEI (who also designed the amazing ninja-esque Code Black Coffee).

Great brunch spot, good service, good food. Had the waffles with OJ today, was excellent. Not sure if bigger groups would find the place conducive (noticed tables mainly for four) but definitely a cosy spot for coffee catchup sessions or weekend brunches.

Great place to catch up with friends and enjoy good coffee and great food. Friendly non intrusive staff also adds to the atmosphere of the place. Absolutely love the Slow Cooked Organic Pork Belly.

Easily one of the best brunch spots in Melbourne. Interesting food that's always fantastic. The quinoa/kasundi thing is amazing. Great coffee and welcoming staff. My baby and I are regulars here.

Foxtrot Charlie Brunswick is a food and coffee spot on Sydney Road that has been operating wihtout making a big fuss for a few years now. We’ve walked past several times without popping in so thought it was finally time to check it out.

Good coffee. Coffee always good quality here.... and I love homemade marshmallows

Chocolate Emulsion with Salted Caramel and Honeycomb Parfait. Decadent chocolate heaven...just, WOW.

The coffee was one of the best coffees I think I have had and a bonus that they roast their own on site. The space was modern though it was a comfortable space. The open beef bun was absolutely amazing and I will definitely come back here!

Best Brunch Spot in Brunswick. My husband and I have been to Foxtrot Charlie for brunch on a number of occasions and it never disappoints! Last Sunday we went with our family to celebrate a birthday and booked the room upstairs. It was such a great morning; the waitress was very attentive, the coffee was great like always, the food was fabulous and the service was exceptional. Once again thanks Foxtrot Charlie!

☕️ COFFEE HEAVEN ☕️. This has become my new 'local' after living in Brunswick for years. Thankyou Foxtrot Charlie for bringing your tasty treats to my neighbourhood. They have their own coffee too and it's the best on this side of the city. I've put loads of people on to this place.

I drive across town just for the menu!. Love love love this place. The staff are always super friendly & they look like they actually enjoy their job! Coffee is always smooth & creamy but best of all ... The St Joseph's Day Fritter - Ohhmmaaahhgerrrrd my mouth waters just thinking about it. I seriously drive across town every weekend just to eat here!

Thought I would give this place a try for our morning coffees unfortunately the rude service and cold coffee is not something I'll go back for. Plenty of other friendly cafes with better coffee in the area

Sticky Gingerbread Brioche. Perfectly sweet dish with a great presentation. Also, a smoke white fish and some other crispy bits and green bits, interesting breakfast dish, but delicious none the less. The coffee was average, nothing notable considering the other great specialty cafes that loom over Brunswick. So, if you are down this part of Sydney Rd. this is a good place to pop into for a nice brunch.

Can do no wrong. Every time I'm in Foxtrot Charlie's I have to tell them how good they are, because they're just that good! The staff are outstanding. Very happy and helpful. The food is always amazing. I have had both sweet and savoury dishes and never had a bad experience. The majority of the time it can be busy in there but I think that's because so many people love going there. Can't say enough about how good this place is!!

This has to be Brunswick's best coffee and the menu is outstanding! I had the Poached Chook and my friend had the St Joseph's Day Fritter, both were delicious. Service was fantastic and the staff were very warming. Will be my local from here on.
Coffee Snob
My #1 Brunswick choice, despite tough competition. I've been meaning to write a review for ages, and not just because the staff are the friendliest ever - it's like I suddenly have a room full of friends with uber-cool dress sense, who are happy I'm visiting them and want to give me free tastes of the choc emulsion cake, yoghurt pistachio rhubarb slice or filter coffee, even though lots of the time I stay for hours on just one or two coffees. The coffee is amazing - smooth and strong and always beautifully presented and silky. It's the only place I don't have to order a flat white, cappucino or latte 'strong', without feeling like I'm drinking hot milk. The roasting machine is in the main room so the scent wafts over while I eat and drink, mixed with the lilies in the centre table if I sit close enough. The decor is simple, bright and uncluttered so it's always a relief to go to recharge and refresh in a classier version of a kitchen/dining room that I would never keep that spotless myself. And the food! Even the chocolate on the cappucino tastes like it's the best money can buy. They use lots of (maybe all?) organic ingredients, create all their own desserts and snacks which change every week and also sell decent sized baguettes/sandwiches at a really good price - I think $7 - $9 so you can fill up without paying the normal $16 lunch/brekky price if you want. The chocolate emulsion cake and yoghurt pistachio slice with rhubarb are divine as regular sweet items. Sometimes they make their own 'raw food' desserts which are delicious, too. I love the frangipani waffle for breakfast, but the breakfast menu is mainly savoury based at the moment and when I've tried those things, like the poached eggs on some kind of Indian style grain (am not a foodie so probably getting that wrong), they're also delicious and the eggs poached perfectly. Huge props to the Kiwi lady, the tall waiter guy, the waiter who experiments with new coffee drinks and the owner for making me feel welcome even when I can only buy a coffee or two rather than a meal, where at other places I always feel like a pariah if I don't buy a full meal and move or leave so that I don't stop them turning over that table. The only thing I would change is for Foxtrot Charlie to open at 7am so I can also have my weekday coffees here! Got hooked on the coffee, then addicted to the food here and always look forward to going and waking up/relaxing with a book thanks to the staff. Can't recommend this place enough, especially for coffee lovers who are picky due to the good quality choices we have in Brunswick.

Great Brunswick local. Great coffee and the unique passionfruit marshmallow - amazing !<br/><br/>Recently returned and shared the savoury fritter and the nettle omelette which were both delish. Some great food comes out of this kitchen. Friendly staff. Fresh cafe fit out. Look forward to returning. Also right next door to the awesome bookshop , "Brunswick Bound ".

Foxtrot Coffee. Only tried the coffee. Found it to be weak and lacked flavour. By Melbourne standards - poor

Nice, relaxed and great coffee to boot!!!. My wife and I went for breakfast, the menu was amazing, such a great selection that wouldn't leave anyone disappointed. Coffee was great (had two), they roast their own which is a pleasant surprise and ensures consistency, which is what you want in a coffee. We were boring and just had the poached eggs with salmon, mushrooms and avocado....it was great and very reasonably priced!! Staff were super friendly and efficient. The layout and the decor is very warm and inviting, love the use of stainless steel in the front windows and the exposed bricks and cement rendered walls complimented by the timber overhead cabinets and the high laid "kaleidoscoped" terracotta tiles and matching lights. We will be back and next time we will try some of the other more exotic menu options, not to mention we will be going back for coffee and cake, the cakes looked amazing in the display cabinets.

Yummy lunch. Interesting menu and very accommodating of gluten-free/allergy needs.

A new lunchtime favourite. What a winning formula, great food, friendly staff and only down the road from work. The portions are perfect for lunchtime, the flavour in the open blue cheese, apple and celery sandwich were great. Can't wait to go back and try the Paperdelle with mushrooms. A break from the burger bar, noodle joints and hot food joints that dominate lunch around this part of Sydney Road.

Decent food, good flavours, but the portion size was a disappointment.<br/><br/><br/>-----14 Apr, 2014-----<br/><br/>Decent food, good flavours, but the portion size was quite disappointing.

Definitely a keeper!. I had brunch here on sunday with a friend. It was absolutely packed which made for slower service, but to be honest it didn't bother me in the slightest as the staff were so incredibly apologetic and very aware that things were taking a bit longer, etc. The food was absolutely delicious and the fit out is incredible. If you're a gourmet muesli lover like me, definitely try theirs, it was very tasty, wholesome and their homemade almond milk is exceptional. i will definitely be returning next time i'm in the area.

Drove past on a Monday morning after gym and thought I'd pop in and give them a try. Boy, I'm so glad I did. I had the St Joseph's Day Fritter and It was amazing. Friendly staff with great service. I will definitely be coming back.

Tea tragic but good otherwise. Would eat here more often but for the tea. There is so much to enjoy: wonderful breads, fresh juice, great scrambled goggie eggs and the excellent St Joseph's Fritter. Also love the Smoked mackerel despite pointless fatty pastry cap and can even overlook how the deli sandwiches seem to obsess on red meat fillings, with little or no consideration for the chicka or acqaterians. But cannot forgive the tea. The pot is all wrong allowing water to overbear the leaf. The brew has its problems too. There is no equivalent to Irish Breakfast to sate the caffeine addiction of leaf lovers. The 'Bard's Tempest' (English Breakfast) is an ashen sickly drop perhaps aggravated by the wrong pot. Bloke reports coffee is fine. But that's only going to keep half this duo happy.

Great discovery for us today. Really enjoyed the delicious and beautifully presented food. The waitress was extremely helpful and friendly. We will be back.

A Place to call home.. When you step in to the restaurant you can scent the fragrance of freshly brewed coffee and with a warm welcome from the staff you get the feeling of stepping in to a home of a dear friend. <br/><br/>The Food is divine, the colorful and playful presentations combined with well thought out taste combinations completes the experience. For a chocolate lover like myself the chocolate cake with caramel sauce is absolutely mandatory and for the person who worships coffee, this is the place to go!<br/><br/>In my opinion Foxtrot Charlie is a place where everyone can feel like home. <br/><br/>You'll find my pictures here: <br/>http://swedenaustralia.blogg.se/2013/december/foxtrot-charlie.html

Amazing. Coffee is fantastic, amongst the best in Brunswick. Food is not your basic, just sensational. Fit out is clean, clearly thought out well. Staff very friendly and efficient. There are many points of difference here from the usual run of the mill cafés in the area. Well done.

I want to like this place, but for me it was expensive and not great. I just wanted bacon, avocado & toast. When it turned up there were two generous pieces of toast, half an avocado, which was fine, but two & a bit very small pieces of bacon. I like crispy bacon, but unfortunately most places don't do this well, I think they put it in the oven after cooking it which just makes it leathery. I was a little disappointed, but thought it would cost me about 12 or $13 which I could cope with. The price was actually $17. Basically they charged me for poached eggs with toast minus the eggs plus the extras. If the amount of bacon had been generous, and well cooked, I would have forgiven them for it.

Went here this morning for breakfast with my fiancé had the long macchiato and baked eggs. The coffee was so so longer than most long macs but had a good flavour, however the baked eggs were flat lifeless and lacked the flavour that the menu gave the impression they had. Plenty of better options in the area won't be going back

Good variety, good drinks. Great calling card. Welcome addition to Brunswick

The food at Foxtrot Charlie was fantastic - the menu offers something to suit every breakfast mood from starving to health conscious to hungover as hell. The fit out is amazing and is indicative of the change happening all along Sydney Rd now.<br/>The wait staff were all polite and attentive when needed. My only issue is with the owner/manager, who was incredibly rude to his staff for the entire time we were in the cafe. He also pushed in front of us as we were settling the bill, yelling at his staff some more about something as trivial as the alignment of eftpos machines by the till. If he keeps this up, I won't be surprised if the rest of the team quits and leaves us with another poorly run cafe.
