Review Greenfields - Brunswick

GTNathan Gardiner
Vietnamese food used to be accessible & a great way to eat if you didn’t want to cook. Flavoursome food bursting with taste. Green Field hits the mark, unpretentious, honest, delicious. Recommend 👍 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A Vietnamese restaurant serving a large range of dishes, I wanted something light and its hard to go past the vermicelli noodle salad in different versions, I chose the lemongrass chicken. It was very busy so took a little time to arrive but the wait was worth it. Pour the sweet chilli dressing, get in there with the chop sticks and mix like hell. Then eat and enjoy the delicious tender lightly scented lemongrass chicken, soft vermicelli noodles, crunch of nuts and beansprouts, carrot, cucumber and mint. Lovely refreshing meal which just keeps you coming back for more. Excellent value meal. #Vietnamesefood #lemongrasschicken #vermicellinoodlesalad #foodie #melbournefood #brunswick @zomatomelb #sydneyrdbrunswick

To say that this place has the best Asian food in Brunswick is a huge understatement. The best value for money for quality Vietnamese/Asian food and is always packed full of people. Never been disappointed by this place ever
Trader Joe
Mostly fine, very cheap and I found the service quite friendly unlike some other comments. I had the spring rolls $8 - half prawn and half chicken (no pork spring rolls on the menu) small wonton soup $6 and fillet mingnon with fried rice $14 (lunch special). A lot of food and couldn’t finish it but was very cheap. The main problem I had was the beef fillet mingnon was very strange tasting almost like it had gone bad or rancid. I couldn’t eat it and I had tried it many times before but it just tasted wrong this time. But everything else was just okay. I do have a problem with them overcharging a surcharge without mentioning when you pay with card. She mentioned the price, then got me to tap my card but the price was different once receiving the receipt. This wasn’t indicated. I think today, just include the surcharge in your menu items. She said the surcharge was on the menu. But as you can see from this post of photos it wasn’t. She attempted to prove it was on the menu by showing me the takeaway menu- I didn’t get the takeaway menu. I ate IN. Overall - it’s very cheap but a couple of dollars more, there are many better Vietnamese restaurants around. I Would advise to skip this restaurant.

Absolutely amazing Vietnamese food! Fast and friendly service for a great price. Love their green curry temptation. The crispy quail and spring rolls are excellent. Their beef pho is super tasty, and I love the hot & sour soup. Totally recommend green fields. They have heaps of vegetarian options if you need.

Good joint, vermicelli noodle salad is unreal. Hidden gem. Wish they were open every day of the week

The food is Awesome!!! Tasty clean friendly staff, and the prices are exceptionally cheap. I had the Woton Soup(see pic below) so delishious!!! I will be coming back regularly.

I WOULD GIVE YOU A 0 BUT THATS NOT POSSIBLE SO I GIVE YOU A 1! Waited 20 minutes to be seated, still no one came to attend so had to seat myself down. Also had go up brab my own menu, napkins, cutlery ect. And order up at the front, because again no one came to serve. Waited 45 minutes for our food to come (this was 30 minutes before close btw!), even others around us ordered after us and still got their food before us. They were clearly understaffed but no excuse to be ignored constantly as a customer! Ruined my night, such terrible service!
Jjaass
Ordered take away, special fried rice, chicken coleslaw, cold rolls and it happened to be the worst food I’ve had from a restaurant in a long time. I had a meal in the restaurant a few years ago and it was good but not ever going back again.

Obviously Green Field is a loud restaurant with questionable service but the food is so cheap and amazing it more then makes up for it!!

Never come back again. The waiters seemed not know our table order and waited for more than 30min for one hot dish. So noisy and crowded place. Food is okay for the price though.

Been here twice now in recent times for lunch. Firstly I dont like it when you order entrees and mains but they bring them all together. Food just goes cold. Lose a mark for that error. The Apollo spring rolls were perfectly cooked and crispy with lots of prawn meat and came with lettuce leaves and mint but skimped on the dipping sauce. The satay is fine good size bits of chicken but a little dry so nothing special. Loved the crispy quail a sure winner even if a little fiddly. The salt and pepper calamari was well worth it and the red duck curry is a sure fire winner. There was only one waiter and he was pretty busy so you had to flag him down to order or get plates taken away. Basically the food is good but they could polish up the customer service a bit.

This place is a massive vibe. Best Asian food on Sydney road and is super cheap. Treat yourself

Are people who eat here blind? We ordered about 5 meals and ever single one of them had pieces of the black pan all over them. Black pieces of the pan that the waiter tried to tell me was pepper. Pepper doesn't leave a shiny residue on your finger when you rub it together. Then the owner comes over and says it's Worcestershire sauce on the honey chicken. Is that some sort of joke? After all that they didn't take anything off the bill and I actually want to vomit thinking of how dirty those pans and woks are!! Plus the sharing plates were dirty and still wet from the wash?? Cheap and nasty.
Shannon
Great for cheap Asian takeaways. Portion sizes are decent and works out about $15 a person. The rice paper rolls are really simple, cheap but not great tasting. Enjoyed the vegetarian yellow curry and chilli temptation with tofu.

Love coming here for a cheap and tasty feed! Always sizable too. However I’ve received a lot of very average service here in the past and have had some outrageous waits on food too. Definitely worth a visit, but beware.

I went to this place for the first time, ordered PHO. Waiter brought me a very small barely noodle bowl while serving the next table a bigger bowl. I asked the waiter if they have another size for PHO as it does not say in the menu. The waiter confirmed that they have only one size. Then I asked why that bowl (next table) is clearly bigger than mine. He said he did not know, maybe kitchen made mistake. That is ridiculous!!
When I paid my bill at reception, I asked the same question to the management, she stared at me, said she does not know and blamed to kitchen without apologies. Very rude and unprofessional place.
Also, I ordered prawn rice paper roll, no taste of prawn, small roll filled up with vermicelli basicly. The worse roll I have ever had.
Never come back again.

Cheap tasty Asian for very cheap. The staff a quick and efficient and the food comes out fast. Plus BYO makes this place a great pick for a cheap and easy night out.
Arthur Singleton
Affordable and tasty food. Love a bitta BYO too. All about the lemongrass tofu. Good vegetarian options. Usually very quick to get the food out. Sometimes takeout can be a bit slow though. Overall, a great place.
Lorna Downes
Food was amazing. We had a selection of vegan and non vegan dishes. Only reason we didn’t give 5 stars was our table was a bit sticky. We will be back
Anisa Sher Shah Rasyid
We ordered red curry (tofu), Chinese broccoli w garlic sauce, and small fried rice for 2 people and the portion is plenty! All of this the dishes are really good, I went there on Tuesday for dinner & the place is packed, service was pretty good for cheap food
Mo
Very average Vietnamese inspired fare. Prawn spring rolls lacked any discernible filling. Hot and sour soup was just really sweet and neither hot nor sour. My partner had finished both her entree and main before my meal hit the table so we left and I grabbed a kebab. Friendly waitstaff did their best but pretty lacking overall...

I used to frequent this place weekly for years. Their sizzling beef brought me back every time. So today after a few years not living in Brunswick, I jumped at the chance to go back to an old favourite. Ordered the Pho. Worst Pho I've had in Melbourne. The beef was cardboard. The bowl was tiny, barely any noodles. But the beef was dreadful to the point it needed to be said. I was told the supplier had provided beef that did not cook well however it was fairly noticable other patrons today were having huge problems with their meals.
We also ordered the beef in beetle leafs were amazing. Such a shame on the Pho, I've been dying to try it here for so long and it was just utterly disappointing.
Erin King
I absolutely love Green Field. The food is authentic, and so reasonably priced! Don’t expect fine dining, it’s very casual but it’s great value for money. We got takeaway for four of us and spent about $50, plus they gave us a bag of prawn crackers. Highly recommend the rice paper rolls, basil stir fry with chicken and cashew, and the Mongolian beef stir fry!

Would I return? Will come back for a quick Asian meal or catch up with friends over a BYO bottle of wine.

Green Fields is a little Classic Vietnamese , Thai and Aus-Chinese gem that offers affordable meals on Sydney Road. The ambience is lively and noisy so its perfect for a catch up with friends or family if that’s your thing. Definitely not a great date place! The place is large however it can book out at peak times like Friday night at 7pm. The menu in extensive so basically anyone can find something they like here.

The food is very nice, nothing really special but tasty and fresh. My friend and I both ordered the Wonton Soup which was a stand out. For $4 we got a generous serving and the contents were delicious. Vegetables, meat, dumplings in a rich broth. We then had a serve of Dumplings which were tasty but nothing special. To finish we also shared a Prawn Red Curry and a Satay Chicken. The vegetables were fresh and cooked well, the Prawns were fresh and the chicken was really tender. Both sauces were rich with flavour and creamy.

Service? It is rushed and abit off putting however if your in a hurry it’s amazing.

Wrap up: Don’t have high expectations as its nothing fancy but it’s cheap and consistently tasty with lots of variety.

BONUS: They do cheap BYO and lunch specials. Don’t rely on their wine if you if you are after a nice drop.
Roxanne Groebel
Classic Vietnamese , Thai and Aus-Chinese food here for good prices!! Super yummy and super busy!! I found that although the service is rushed its never off -putting. Love this local gem
Liz
I used to go to this place all the time for cheap and yummy food, but I went there the other night and the service was just too poor to go back again. I asked staff numerous times if we could order and they just said “1 minute” and then never came back. We eventually ordered after waiting half an hour. Food came at completely different times. Rude and disappointing.
Simon
We went to Greenfields last night for the first time for over a year. As usual it was very busy but the staff managed to find a table. As usual the ambience was noisy, busy and lively. For the first time our food was a little disappointing. The mango and scallop temptation was far too creamy with little taste of mango at all. In contrast the vegetables with tofu were crisp and tasty. I think we just struck a bad night as this restaurant is usually good

Firstly, on a positive note, this place is very affordable - mains are priced around $10-15. We have been here a couple of times for the spring rolls, ginger chicken, salad, satay chicken and the wok tossed beef. All were not bad, but in no way amazing. The authentic taste of the dishes just aren't there.
The ambience is full on and the staff sometimes kind of yell at you but perhaps not in a negative way. Just because it's a busy place. As I said, however, it's very affordable so definitely check it out if you're after a cheap eats destination in Brunswick!
Max Mannix
A little Vietnamese gem that offers affordable meal pricing competitive with the rest of Sydney Road's Middle Eastern cheap eats. If you're feeling Viet, this is where to go. Great Pho!
Michael Beahan
Dirty, graffiti covered. An insult to its customers. Badly in need of refurbishment. It has not been renovated for many years. Food seems good, but concerned about cleanliness given the lack of maintenance. Is the kitchen as run down as the rest of the place? Ambience zero.
Xixi
The best Vietnamese Food i have ever tried in Melbourne! Much more authentic than the ones in CBD. More options in main cuisine and big portions. Decoration is Vietnamese style, especially the colourful wall xD
Melissa
Cheap Vietnamese-Thai. Apart from the oil and salt, it satisfies.

Ordered
- Pho. Beefy stock, not the best but good for the price.
- Pad thai. Right flavours but not quite punchy enough and also oily.
- Combination noodles. Tasty but sauce was a bit salty.
- Fried eggplant and tofu. Super crispy and melts in the mouth. Also the kind of food that gives heart attacks, but it's worth it once in a while.
- Hot and sour soup. Tasted like a chicken soup with pineapple, was appetising.
Bear Noms
Been here a few times and always left satisfied. Tasty and serves good portions of ingredients including meat. Good value for money! Le boyfriend approves...

I haven’t tried the whole menu yet, but so far it’s been great flavours and a wide variety of offerings all at reasonable prices. The salt and pepper calamari has been the standout dish so far.
Nikki
So last night was my second trip to Green Field and this time I took 5 adults and my two year old! Wow was all we could keep saying!!! Starters consisted of wonton soup, rice paper rolls and spring rolls all which had phenomenal tastes happening!
Mains ranged from 2 salt and pepper squid, garlic prawns, Mongolian beef, Singapore noodles, Chinese brocolli, lemon chicken, beef and cashew, fried and steamed rice and not one of us had a complaint about anything!!!!
Banana fritter was delicious too, wine was good and soooooo affordable !!! Too eat more than royalty total was $171 with drinks!!!! What a gem !!! Will be making a third and fourth visit for sure!!!!

K: Have you been looking for the perfect Vietnamese lunch in Brunswick, or perhaps even dinner? Well look no further because I think we have just found a hidden (or not) gem! Located on the very popular Sydney Rd, I was pleased to have stumbled across this restaurant boasting a menu at the front inciting it's lunch specials. Literally every meal was under $8...

Without a moment's hesitation I entered and was seated propmtly. With a nice typical ambience, I ordered the Chicken and vegetable curry rice for a whopping $7. You will not get a better value meal anywhere else in Brunswick let alone Melbourne! When the food came I could immediately smell the flavours and knew I was in for a treat. Mixing the curry and rice together and trying it, I was amazed. Think of a nice peanut satay sauce mixed with a rich curry. This was outstanding. Each bite oozed flavour into the pores of my tongue. The vegetables were fresh and cooked well, whilst the chicken was tender. Everything just made sense and complimented each other so well. I was left feeling full too!

What I also noticed was how this is a family run establishments as I spotted kids helping out with service, even interacting with customers- a rare but very pleasant and wholesome sight. A very very good restaurant serving top quality food for the best prices in Melbourne. I cannot recommend it enough and will definitely return!

Food: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value: 5/5

Overall: 5/5

Bloody love this place. It’s an institution, with the best satay sauce on the block! Tofu stack is always consistently amazing. Everything else is pretty great too. Mmmmm
Fernanda Penso
Second time in this restaurant and it’s really delicious! It’s very cheap and you can eat good food. I took a chicken satay, the plate came very hot and the chicken was very tender!
We have been very happy with the price and the quality of the food! We will come back for sure

Completely confused as to why such a run of the mill Chinese/Vietnamese take away restaurant is so highly regarded. There's plenty of variety and quality food in the area and Green Field tastes exactly like every other cheap Chinese takeout on the planet.

Staff members' forget how to speak English when it suits them and are dazed and inattentive.

We ordered two 'house reds' for ten bucks a pop and got served warm, expired goon.

What they lack in every other regard they do make up for in sheer volume of food.
Ket
Food is pretty yummy, however service was terrible... although it was fast, customer service and friendliness... they just seemed to hate their jobs. We were seated near the toilets, in the corner.... not great when you are tryiing to eat. Tables were a little sticky.... could do better but come here if you are on a budget and just need a quick feed

Food is very nice nothing really special but tasty and fresh. Place is always busy at night so book ahead and if they say don't worry it won't be busy insist on booking anyway as there is a constant flow of people we got there at 8 pm and it was packed.
Worth the visit though and price is fantastic. Food is good, tasty and fresh but glass of red wine was very bad. Better to have beer. Service is let you down. They won’t care much once they serve the meal. They always hurry to clear the plate even there’s a food on plate.

Cheap, predictable westernised Vietnamese food. Nothing fancy but always consistent.

Always busy and always good for a Friday hangout with friends.

Went here because it is highly rated. Generally this serves us well to find a place with scrumptious food but this time this wasn't the case. We were seated at the back near the toilets which was a little draughty and cold according to a table seated next to us - I generally run warm so I didn't notice. The menu had plenty of choice which is great for me with food intolerances - I would hopefully be able to find something I could eat. Service was fine, I would say amateur, but they seemed to do their best. The waiter confirmed for me the dishes I had ordered would come without onion and garlic. The entrees came in good time and were tasty but nothing special. The mains took a while, and one of the dishes came out (with onions all throughout it!) with the wrong rice order. Those dishes sat there for a while untouched before we were able to get their attention to let them know that we had ordered a different rice option and that the main dish had onions in it. They took both away and finally we got our correct rice dish and the other main we had ordered. We tucked in and a few minutes later our other main, this time without onions, came out. The flavours were average, definitely not worth coming back to but enjoyable enough to eat. The serving sizes were standard. The plus is that the food is actually really cheap! That might be why it is so well rated. Personally we prefer better quality/flavoured food because you want to enjoy your meal! Service 2.5. Ambience 3. Food 2. Conclusion: good for a cheap meal if you want to eat out on a budget but don't expect the food to amaze you.
Jolene Lim
This is a nice cheap eat on Sydney rd. $8 for s bowl of beef pho! Lots of seating area and quick service. Food is quite tasty but don't have too high expectation! Will come back for a quick Asian meal.
Gaia Verdélica
Great value for money! Very tasty Pad Thai, one of the best I have had. No too difficult to accommodate vegan options. The place is always busy and quite noisy. If you want a cozier place maybe try somewhere else. Service is good.
Jay
Sometimes you get what you pay for. Serving some decent Vietnamese food and it's good value. The trade off is that the service is a bit hot and cold. I don't personally mind but not a place for a first date.
Chardos
called up on the phone, told em ill drive over from my home
they said 20 minutes, thats all we need to finish
took nearly an hour, my mood was gettin sour
good thing the food was great, it was defo worth the wait
Shlomi
Decent Vietnamese food with decent prices. Everything you need for a good lunch.
However, we waited a little bit too much for the Pho.
Service was quite good, nothing special (just like the food).
Overall, a nice place to have lunch in Brunswick. Just like the ones you can get in Victoria st on Richmond.

Came here on a Monday night, very busy. Waited 20 minutes for our entry, it was very tasty! Main came nearly an hour later!! And the main were terrible! You literally get what you pay for. The food was extremely cheap, in return you get horrible service. The waitress ran away when we tried to ask her how long the wait would be on our main. We had to ask another waiter, and the main came pretty quickly after that. My wonton noodle soup has two wontons in it, fair enough it was cheap. But the noodle was very under cooked. But all the veggies were overcooked and soggy! Our fried Chinese broccoli was soggy as well, terrible food overall, apart from my lemongrass beef skewers. Probably won't come back, it was a waste of time!
Choothulhulhu
Decent cheap food, awful service. Absolutely awful service. Staff ignore you and wall away whilst you are speaking to them. One item of my order didn't even arrive but was listed on my bill.
Nguyet Minh
Ordered a mixed vegetables and Mongolian sauce beef and both dishes were oddly sweet. The sour soup was decent luckily. Service was terribly slow (that beef dish took almost an hour to come out and we were starving).
Zoe Joune Klemenczuk
I was always pro Green Fields, I loved it because it was so cheap and it was a 5 minute walk from my house. Even when I would see people eye rolling at the lack of service, I'd get annoyed at the them (the other diners)because it is what it is. If you want fine dining service, then you spend the extra money and get yourself somewhere that isn't as chaotic. But unfortunately, I can't return. Its not the bad service, but it's the actual quality of the food. I would often walk away not feeling too crash hot, but I would just write it off as 'ahh well it was a cheap meal'. But I went on Saturday night and had a chicken spring roll entree, prawn crackers, and a chicken wonton soup with two glasses of red wine and I have been so sick. I am not sure if it was something with the chicken or maybe if they use MSG it may have counteracted with the red wine. But I've had to take Monday off work as well to fully recover. So I won;t be going back and it would be interesting to know if anyone else has had any after effects (that is the nicest way of saying 'up all night hugging the toilet) of Green Fields.
Nikki Cikes
Really tasty food and generous serves considering the cheap price.

Service could use some work. Called in several times to order a serve of Wonton Noodle Soup and have been told it'll take 15 - 20 minutes, however I'm generally waiting upwards of 50 minutes. Also have sat in and ordered a banquet with family, the only issue was that they brought out each serving too quickly and we didn't have much room to eat, but this wasn't worth losing sleep over.

If you don't mind waiting longer than expected, this is a great place to head to, and is my new local go-to when I'm craving Chinese.
Hutch
Booked a table for my girlfriends family and I yesterday, we came from interstate looking forward to a great meal however they stuffed up the booking and they had no space for us. Terrible communication from all staff and we we're just told to wait at the front counter, after 10min we ended up walking out due to poor service and went elsewhere. :(
Sabcat
Honestly treated bad as soon as walked in told 10 minute wait was quiet and turned out to be 40 minute wait, ordered takeaway and instead it was important to just chat amongst each other and ignored me until I asked for my meal. Got home and it was cold, customer service is everything.... disappointed.

If you're looking for a good Asian feed you can't really go past this place. The menu has a range of meat and vegetable dishes with different flavour bases so you can be guaranteed you'll find something to your tastes.

Food is reasonably priced and service was good. They very kindly let us come in right towards the end of their lunch service even though they were probably close to closing time for the afternoon.

It's always quite busy for both lunch and dinner every time I go past, suggesting it's a real winner for Asian in Brunswick
Emma Xu
Affordable price with quite big portion. The crispy quail is delicious and juicy. Vietnamese sizzling beef is also good going with rice paper rolls.
Lenka.hadravova
Good food for good price. However, each time I went there (3 times), the staff made a mistake with our order and the food never arrived at the same time to the extent that one of us ate 20 min later! We felt neglected.
Rosie Raiti
Can't go past the Crispy Quail, one of the best dishes on the menu. It's my son's favourite dish, Wednesday night dinner covered! Staff are friendly and fast service.
Megan
Pho was bland, beef had no flavour. Pad thai was way too sweet and the corn soup was just meh. Worst Vietnamese meal I have had in Melbourne.
Lilly Pilly
I've found Green Fields to be very hit and miss taste-wise. It's cheap as chips, so that can be handy when a little on the broke side but still want to have a meal out with a friend. The food comes out quickly and all the staff are friendly. It's ok. Very child friendly as there is always many running about all over the place, sometimes screaming and laughing. No one bats an eye - I think half the time they are the staff's kids. It is what it is.
Kate McMahon
This place is just so good. Great value and delicious every time. I could eat here every night. Try their traditional sizzling beef! Pho is good too and their specials are always great.
Mishka
Food was good but service was terrible. First we were seated and then after 5 minutes asked to move into a corner. No one came to take our order, obviously we were seated in the forgotten corner so we had to call them over each time we needed something. They mucked up our entrees, drinks were never delivered, and half the main was brought out with the entree so it was cold by the time the other main came. The place was mostly full but not crazy busy by any means. Very disappointing experience.
Liv Puleston
We have been to Greenfields many times. The food is nice, but the service is crap. They never get their takeaway orders right, and we have have had to drive back to collect things that they have missed EVERY SINGLE TIME and we are over it. We are both fuming right now as it has happened to us AGAIN, despite the fact that we rang ahead and asked them to make sure that they would get it right. We are definitely not going to order takeaway from them again, which is sad because the people are nice, and the food is good, but they need to improve their takeaway service. The rating for their service is 1, whilst the rating for their food is 8, if you are ever able to eat it hot because you have to drive backwards and forwards before you get to eat it.
Daniel McDowell
Carrots! Carrots everywhere! Carrots will haunt my nightmares all week. Usually cheap and cheerful, tonight's experience was woeful. We had wonton soup (with carrots?!) which was genuinely delicious, satay beef (with carrots?!) which resembled a congealed Kan Tong and was deeply unpleasant, fried rice (with carrots?!), and lemongrass chicken (with carrots?!) which appeared to have been plated half way through being cooked. One carrot out of five possible carrots.
Madamcafebeing
For quick, cheap and tasty Asian food, this hits the mark. It's not going to win any Chef Hat prizes but the wonton noodle soup was full of flavour and warming. Rice paper rolls were good too. I'd definitely go back to try some of their other dishes. Oh and it was full to capacity and we were lucky to get a table, and looked like their takeaway orders were very busy also. That's always a good sign,
Polly Estar
Greasy burnt pad thai - was gross ... So disappointing - had no taste just grease grease and more grease - service was terrible. Wont return :(
Buttercups
This place needs a good scrub tables are sticky.. kind of smelly.... and its obvious the staff don't get treated well because the service lacks in care.... The food is 7/10 but could be fresher...
Accidental Foodie
Awesome food! It's busy, the menu is vast and the service good. Get lots of dishes so you get to try all the amazing dishes. Get there early to avoid the rush.
Northsider
It's cheap, and the food isn't bad.
But the service is very sloppy, and they can struggle with orders of 2 or more dishes.
Don't bother unless you have plenty of time and don't mind wrong orders, cold food, etc
HDT
Get what you pay for. For $7 for a beef pho I can't really complain too much, this place is close to my house so I didn't have to cook it myself, and it definitely was pho... Look I'll probably go back, the family running it seemed nice, but don't expect great things. $7 people!
Unravelled
Green Field is the best place to get Chinese/Viet food in Brunswick, whether it be take-away or dine in. It's not a classy affair - the decor is simple, coke comes in the can with a straw - but it's always full of people and the food is so great. Very quick in and out - delicious salt and pepper calamari. Always good to visit for a mid-week eat.
Lady Jeff
Really slack, silent service. Every table around us had to ask, sometimes several times, for bowls and chopsticks/spoons. Some food items took nearly 40 minutes to arrive (fried rice, 40 minutes?) and were served sloppily in weird sized bowls and plates. Portions were not generous and food was salty without the fresh taste Vietnamese food should have.
Possibly the worst example of Vietnamese food in Melbourne. Run, run fast and run far.
Alex Tee
Decent place for an affordable meal. Love the calamari and the mango temptation and of course the Apollo Spring rolls.
Nothing special to look at but good portion sizes, affordable and courteous wait staff, definitely worth a try!
The Critic's Critic
Check the reviews and every one of them will state how cheap the food is. And it is! This is a tightarse's paradise where what you get is what you pay for.
Daniel
Very tasty food. Four of us dined and it was about $15 a head. No one went away disappointed.
The only issue we encountered was the wait for a table but other than that, I wouldn't hesitate coming back here.
Paul Chamberlain
Came here New Year's Day 2016. Food is good and reasonably priced.
We had the salt n pepper calamari and chicken and veggies in fried noodle basket, with a serving of fried rice. All had ok flavours, maybe just needed a little more seasoning, but you can just add that. Despite other reviews I thought the service was good and food came out in a timely manner. Considering its a very popular place and they do a lot of take away, fine effort.
Brunswick is crying out for a few more quality Vietnamese/Chinese places.
I'll be back to try some more dishes.
Love Food
Its a bit noisy so we mostly get take away. The food is very authentic and quite amazing. Staff is always friendly (sometimes a bit confused) and prices are very reasonable. Try Chili Lemongrass, Hot & Sour Soup or PadThai ...
Meltoneater
Tasty food, good value for the price. Always busy and there surely is a reason for that. One of the regular places to go either for a sit down comfy meal or a quick take away. Definitely a gem on Sydney road!
Pat Casten
Really cheap and really good, authentic Asian food. Efficient staff. Get the plum duck it's delicious! It's not a fancy restaurant so if you're looking for a nice atmosphere this isn't it - but if you want great food that won't blow the bank then green fields is for you.
Tim
No it's not all polished up and fancy, yes it's no frills food. But yes it's definitely great Viet food!
Had the rice paper rolls to start, chicken was ok, prawn a little better tasting.
Viet coleslaw salad with chicken is a must, great flavours! For mains we had the Mongolian beef, up there with the best I've had and the ginger steamed rockling, I def recommend both.
Service was perfect, sat down within a sec and food was on the table within 10min!
Gourmet John
No frills Asian cuisine. Reasonably priced nice, but not great food. Friendly staff. If you want bog standard Asian food tout can depend on, I say go ahead.
Food Food Foood
Never mind the service, the food is great!!! Come here very often and have never been disappointed. Super affordable. Value for your money.
Dos Delish
Dined here on a Friday night and by chance (and wisely!!!) called ahead and booked a table, allowing us to sit straight down.
The food is good - the pick of the bunch for us was the special Vietnamese beef where you get to make your own rice paper rolls. The crispy ginger fish was really tasty as was the fried rice.
The service is perfectly fine. I will say though there is the possibility that you may be shuffled (mid course!) to make way for others. In saying that, we didn't feel rushed at all. Oh and the beers and wines are super cheap!
The queue is constant but moves pretty quickly. Overall, Green Fields Vietnamese is almost cheaper than dining in Vietnam!
Out And About
Staple restaurant for this part of town. No frills but tasty, consistent, cheap and healthy - and therefore popular but rightly so. They can pretty much do any of their stir fry's or curries as vegetarian as well.

This place seems to get by purely on the fact that there's no competition. Both times I have been here the service has been deplorable. Not only has it taken ages to be served, the food takes almost an hour to come out, which would be ok if it wasn't a simple pho which is practically pre-made.

I wish Brunswick got a half decent Viet restaurant. It's crying out for one judging by how busy this place is.

Smells a bit like a toilet. My lunch special fish cakes was really just one fish cake cut into 4. Pho has pretty tasty, but also pretty small, with sauces instead of fresh chilli, which I prefer. At a guess I'd say there was a bit of stock powder booster in the soup. Had to wait 20mins for food, which is not ideal on a lunch break.
Strangely though I'll say I liked it. Maybe because Brunswick is still suffering for decent food. Or maybe because it was really still better than so many others!

Slowest service ever. 25 mins wait for a Pad Thai when the place is half empty.

I sing and I have singing lessons off Sydney rd after work on Mondays. Sometimes after lessons we head out to have dinner. I wanted something cheap but still yummy so we settled on Green Field on Sydney rd. I had wanted to try Green Field for a while – I had walked past it for many years now and never ventured inside. It was really busy when we got inside. Service was non existent. It was pretty bad. We waited for 15 mins, all the while trying to wave and get someone’s attention. I guess when the food is cheap they know that people are going to head in, so they don’t really care about service? Either way, we eventually got given menus. We ordered the fried eggplant, some spring rolls and a ‘make your own’ rice paper rolls set. The spring rolls were crunchy and hot but not as good as some other places I have tried. The eggplant however was delicious. It melted in your mouth and was pretty much perfect. Seriously good.

If you want ambiance and decor then the Green Field Asia Restaurant is not for you. This lack of atmosphere makes the first impression a bit bleak on an overcast, raining and chilly day in Melbourne. There were a number of people inside who had escaped the rain and this gave the rather cavernous space a happy buzz. Our table near the front and the window was cleared of detritus from the previous occupants and we sat down to study the menu. The menu is much like any other Vietnamese eating place – Vietnamese with touches of other areas of Asia.

Pad see ew, pad thai, and warwick butterflies (vego) are YUM!

This place is pretty ordinary. Sure it's cheap but of you've tried real Vietnamese food, you'd be pretty disappointed with what's on offer here. Dishes were overly sweet and "westernised". Ingredients weren't great either. I guess with "Asia Restaurant" in its name you can't expect authentic Viet or Chinese. I'd rather spend my $10-15 per head on middle eastern food in the area.

Food is so cheap and delicious and staff so friendly that you need to be a real diva to complain about this place!

Good Asian / Vietnamese restaurant.. This place offers good Vietnamese food (Southern style) with surprisingly cheap price. If you have ever been in Sai Gon (Ho Chi Minh city) before, you will probably find your Sai Gon's favourite food in this shop.

My recommendation is to try the beef with leaf in the entree, and some rice noodle (not the Pho - Pho is average here), and pan cake.

The service is okay - it's quite typical in those type of home-owned Vietnamese restaurant. You must remind the waiter/waitress about your side requests otherwise they would get distracted and forget. However, they are friendly and will eventually try their best to help you.

Service, what service?. Okay, the service is TERRIBLE here but the food is so darn cheap that we have actually stopped caring. I once ordered 2 pad thais and 1 serve of steamed dumplings for take out (I was in the restaurant so it wasn't like a poor phone line) and we got 2 pad thais and 1 serve of steamed rice.

All the male waiters I completely clueless and really forgetful and all the female waitresses look like they hate their lives (just an observation yo). Usually we can put up with the (non-existent) service and have developed a more assertive dining style (if that exists). For example, I almost always ask for fresh chopped chilli (which is actually always frozen chopped chilli). The first few times we went, the waiter would acknowledge my request and then either ignore it/get sidetracked/forget completely. I have taken to just walking to the counter and just waiting until they give me my damn chilli. Aside from the takeaway mix up, the only other time the service was annoyingly bad was when I ordered Special Fried Rice and my partner ordered Pad Thai. I had pretty much finished my entire plate of fried rice when we meekly asked a waiter where our other dish was. It showed up. Eventually.

I would say that 85% of the time, we order Pad Thai which is surprisingly chock full of tender chicken and juicy prawns. I had order the Pho on occasion which has been pretty average (and they often forget to bring out the mint and bean sprouts). The spring rolls are also pretty good (beef or chicken) and the special fried rice is generic but consistently good. The Singapore noodles are also good as they don't skimp on the meat or vegetables and it feels and tastes relatively light for cheap pan-Asian food.

If you and your dinner date have $20, time and a preference for non-specific Asian food, then Green Field is the place to go!

Great Food, Cheap & Local. I tried this place for the first time last week going off Urbanspoon reviews. In a nutshell: the food is great. I never had duck before so I wanted to try the plum duck which was really delicious. and the food is so CHEAP! which is another plus. However, i have to agree with the reviews on service. Patiently waiting gets you nowhere. Took forever for somebody to take our order, that and i also witnessed two separate tables get up and have to ask for menus. Guys, the food is great, just gotta work on the service!!

Love this Vietnamese restaurant. Ordered banquet number two. Chicken satay, sweet corn soup, sizzling beef rice paper rolls, salt and pepper calamari to die for, chicken and cashew, fried rice and creamy lime prawns followed by ice cream and fruit. All fresh, all delicious and ridiculously priced at $25 each.
The place is packed so booking is a must.

Great Familiar environment, good food. I go there a couple of times a week and I'll always return. Food is nice and cheap in price. You can enjoy their beautiful entrees with a beer or a glass of wine. Mango Temptation not to miss!

I really love the food here, and the people are very nice, however beware that this place takes a survival of the fittest approach to getting served at the counter - whether wanting to pay for your meal, or pick up a take-away, don't ever assume the 'waiting patiently to be noticed' approach will reward you with anything but half an hour of people watching as other customers arrive, order, and leave with their food all before you get a glance. I think this might be because there's no staff dedicated to manning the counter or any system in place for taking orders or making payments. But why not take this as a good opportunity to witness chaos theory in action. And always remember, the prawn mango curry temptation will soothe the savage beast.

Delicious food at a very cheap price. I highly recommend the salt and pepper squid and the plum duck.

Starting to get sick of the long wait....
We call and order pick up and are told "20 mins", then after getting there on time we wait. And wait. And wait. For 50 mins. Three times now. Come on guys, we like your food but get your act together.
