Review Hanoi Rose - Brunswick

For the Love of Food
THIS is the kind of Vietnamese food I love to eat (ie. authentic!). Don’t be fooled by what seems to be a small venue when entering, because it stretches out all the way to the back with a larger seating hall for groups. The portions are so generous and everything we tried tasted healthy and fresh. We ordered: 🐓 Charcoal grilled chicken w/ steamed rice - Super fresh and tasty. Portion is huge! Chicken is seasoned well, they weren’t stingy with anything. 🐷 Roast pork belly on vermicelli bowl & fresh herbs - again, huge! The pork had crispy skin and tender meat, the noodles and toppings were plentiful. 🥩 Lemongrass beef fresh rice paper rolls - Pretty average. They could’ve benefited from some more seasoning in the beef, nothing amazing. Their menu is huge and they even do banh mi’s if you’re on the go! Probably my new favourite Viet spot!

Delicious vegan pho, not short on flavours nor condiments! Loved the tender & sweet mushrooms and tofu. The restaurant itself is really aesthetically pleasing & staff were very friendly & attentive. Thank you 🙏🏼

What an awesome find! Earlier today we were cold and hungry walking down Sydney Rd in Brunswick searching for somewhere good to feed us lunch and we were luck enough to stumble into this little gem. Food was genuinely delicious, our server was really friendly and more than happy to share her lunchtime favourite with me... Love it when that happens! I followed her recommendation of the Beef Yellow Curry with mixed Vegetables with extra chilli on the side - Yum! So good, and the beef noodles soup [sliced beef phô]and the vegetable, tofu and shiitake mushrooms stir-fry were both hits as well as the delicious Seafood crispy net rice paper spring rolls to start with! All over a really great meal and vibe that more than lived up to their tag line of Hanoi Rose, "Vietnamese Food for Foodies". Definitely will go back when next in the area... Phew what a great choice and then to have VicGov give me 25% back off the bill paid was icing on the cake. So happy!

second Chicken Banh Mi in Melbourne full of that weird BBQ style sauce which covers the taste all the others nice ingredients. I am sure the roll would deserve a higher score without the sauce.

Authentic clean food. Friendly staff. Slightly above average prices but the quality is well above average so worth it. Delicious. Thanks for looking after us.

This place was amazing. The in house made soy and lemon dipping sauce was the 💣 best Vietnamese this side of town. Easily the match of Springvale. Service was exceptional.

Dinner @HanoiRoseRestaurant for a Vietnamese fix. Lots to choose from I went with the salt & pepeer fried tofu with lemongrass & chilli which was a generous dish of tofu covered in a thin crispy golden batter and enjoyed with a salad. The dipping sauce had nice flavour but something in it was very acidic. Next was a salad bowl of a sweetened sauce with several thin slices of char grilled pork belly which were delicious, as too, the meatballs. Tender vermicelli noodles, lettuce, mint and some extremely hot chillies were also served. Put them all together and this is a lovely combination of flavours, textures and freshness. #VietnameseFood #tofu #deepfried #saladbowl #porkbelly #meatballs #vermicellinoodles #foodie #melbournefood @zomatomelb #sydneyrdbrunswick

Absolutely delicious food, generous servings and friendly service. My friend has Coeliacs and was able to find many gluten-free options in the extensive menu. If you’re looking for tasty and fresh Vietnamese food served with a smile then look no further.

This is what Northern Vietnamese food should be like! As someone born and brought up in Hanoi and having tried most good Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne let me tell you their Bun Cha (Grilled Pork Noodle) is the best and most authentic you can find in Melbourne! Love the friendly service and relaxed ambiance of the restaurant too! I would definitely recommend it!
Dau Dinh
Thu and Binh, well done for creating such an authentic and delicious menu. You have certainly have put a big stamp on the map of Brunswick, a town of many great restaurants. The most memorable dishes for us were your Hanoi spring rolls, the chargrilled Hanoi pork belly vermicelli salad, oh and the Nuoc Mam, wish I could drink it!! And Oli loved the fried rice which he brought it to school for lunch today. We will be visiting you again soon and this time we will bring some friends. 😘😋 👍

This place is so nice! The staff are friendly. Thankyou Thu and everyone for your warm hospitality. The beef pho was incredible!

Friendly service, great food. Great to finally have some top-notch Vietnamese in Brunswick. Tofu rice vermicelli bowl was great - fresh and tasty.

The food is very good and great value for money, especially the $10 lunch deals. The owners and staff are also very friendly and welcoming too and the place is very clean. I love this place!

Was very impressed with Hanoi Rose today! The food is definitely the most authentic northern Vietnamese food that I've tried in Melbourne. I had Salt and Pepper Squid, Free range chicken salad and Bun Cha. The squid was crunchy with the right amount of seasoning, the salad had a wonderful sweet and sour taste that I've tried in vain to bring out in my own cooking at home, the "Bun Cha" was to die for. Overall it was a perfect experience! Thanks Hanoi Rose team!

Spring rolls were awesome, best one in town. The atmosphere is really good and the staff is really friendly, I'll come back

Great little casual place. The staff are incredibly warm and friendly, and make you feel at home. I had the Vietnamese prawn spring rolls, beef and vegetable stir-fry with lemongrass and chili sauce, with a side of rice and washed it down with a 333 beer. The spring rolls were beautifully crunchy on the outside and the filling was full of great flavour. The fresh lettuce and mint made it even more refreshing and made me want more just looking at it. I've never had a stir fry with so much flavour. You can taste how fresh the produce is with each mouthful (which would be a shovel-ful if I wasn't in public). The carrots and onion were soft and sweet, the bitterness of the capsicum gave the dish freshness, and the beef was so juicy and tender. Sure you can whip up something similar at home, but I challenge anyone to come up with something so fresh and as flavorsome as this. All in all it was simple, great food, made with simple, great ingredients. A great experience all round. I ordered enough food to feed two people well, and it was so tasty that I left in a food coma. Thank you. I'll definitely be back.

Really enjoyed the beef in betel leaf special and the combination pork with vermicelli. Great service. Friendly atmosphere. Great food. Nice price.

Love this place. The food is amazing as well as the staff.

Best Vietnamese in Northern suburbs! Pho, special spring rolls and Vietnamese pancake are the stand outs for me! Love this place

Nem rán (Spring rolls) and Bún chả (Charcoal Grilled Pork on Rice Vermicelli) - can’t go wrong with either!! Bún bò Huế (Hue’s style spicy noodle) is so delicious, sweet broth and full of flavour. We definitely will be back to try other dishes.

Great Food so fresh and tasty. Good wine list. Very friendly owners.

Now I know where to go when craving for "Bun Cha" or Hanoi Grilled Pork noodle in Melbourne! Love the authentic fragrant and taste, felt like I was in Hanoi today. Thanks Hanoi Rose, I will be back soon!

Had a function for a group of 50+ people at Hanoi Rose today and we were all impressed with the food , the ambience atmosphere and deco of the restaurant, and above all your warm hospitality. Well done team! We'll be back soon.

Delicious! Food is so fresh and tastes very authentic! And such warm, lovely staff! I will be back for sure.

Best “Pho” in town. Love the chic decoration and authentic Vietnamese food. Highly recommended.

There was a lot of love in the food and we loved that :) our favourite was the fish sauce chicken wings and the chicken broth pho, definitely worth chicken out!

Great food, menu and service.<br/>Really great flavours and everything from the tofu mushroom rolls to the lemon grass beef noodle was fresh, full of flavours and even after getting through quite a few dishes, left feeling just right.<br/>Try one of the their signature dishes, the Hanoi BBQ beef dish!<br/>Highly recommended and will be back for more...
Cansu Bakar
Such rude customer service. Never again!

#51 - flat rice noodle salad with lemongrass chicken is wonderful. flavours = amazing. Friendly and attentative service.

A nice restaurant offering a good menu and really tasty pho. It was a cold night and I was craving soup, this didn’t disappoint.  I really liked the broth, it was perfect.<br/><br/>The restaurant is spacious and clean. Only negative was the service, it was very slow and they seemed understaffed. <br/><br/>Reasonable value, I would happily return.
Kate
Tasty food, good portions and Thu (the owner) was lovely! Thanks Hanoi Rose 😃
Gavin Gusling
Great service and beautiful fresh food, done traditionally and with style. Good size portions and a wide range of options. Well worth the visit.

Second time here. Service was friendly and reasonably fast. No pho this time but rather shared a couple of entrees and a couple of mains. The food was really excellent, the 'shakey beef' the highlight but also the house special gluten free spring rolls. Will return
Pearl Faraj
Pho was really good. Spring rolls good too but tiny serve for almost $10. Made me wait an extra 15 mins (so total 30mins) for takeaway for pho and spring rolls (how???), no hoisin sauce or chilli sauce, no soup spoons and 1 chopsticks short, no apology and over charged me about $4-5 👎👎👎👎

The ‘Vietnamese food for foodies’ claim plastered across the front of the restaurant caught my eye and lead me here.<br/><br/>Pleasant atmosphere and food will no major issues besides a small bug in my lettuce which the staff apologised for.<br/><br/>Food was solid, perhaps just lacking a bit of punch.<br/><br/>
Burgers Of Melbourne
Love this place! Their Bun Cha (charcoal grilled pork vermicelli) is very yummy and authentic. The menu offers a great selection of foods to choose from. Friendly and quick! I'll definitely come back. Good job Hanoi Rose!

Lunch with a good friend and we’d try something Vietnamese amongst the many other eateries in the area. I’ve tried a lot of Vietnamese food and this was good but I’ve had so much betters and at $18 for the chicken, chilli dish pictured, it was steep in price. My friend had the Pho and although good, we’d had better. <br/>This is however, a funky cafe in the heart of Sydney Road Brunswick. The cafe itself has nice decor and is in fact bigger than what appears from the street. The menu is extensive and there is plenty of variety.<br/>The staff let us down somewhat with a long wait for the rice to go with my meal which meant it was no longer hot when it arrived. When we went to pay, apparently one person had to do that while others seemed to be doing other things. <br/>All round an okay meal but more to try in the area. <br/>Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Reasonable parking.

Decently busy, music was a bit too loud. Waiter appeared inattentive. Would only come if there was a lunch special as the food was overly flavoured with strong spices and despite this was one dimensional. Love the subtle hint that this restaurant caters to foodies because it’s incredibly mediocre and small portioned.

Thought I’d try this place since the restaurant I normally go to was busy. Myself and partner ordered pho . Quite tasty full flavoured broth with distinct spice aroma and taste. Pretty good.<br/>We also had chicken and apple cold rolls which I didn’t find appealing and the bo la lot which were ok.<br/>Stretched service led to writing my own order and a longish wait time.<br/>The service was however friendly and we did enjoy the pho. Ok

The price was well worth the food. The pho was lovely but still felt it needed a touch more zing to it. The chicken was lovely and quite smooth which really melted in your mouth. The spring rolls were amazing!!! Packed full of flavour!!! Unfortunately, the lettuce and mint provided was minimal and I had to portion them very carefully in order save enough for the next spring roll. The carrot was literally 4 little pieces which was certainly not enough and disappointing. This was the same with my banh xeo as there was certainly not enough vegetable to eat the whole thing. I liked the prawns and the pork which was nice by itself. However, the dish as a whole was quite dry and lacked a lot of flavour. I wanted that punch and I wanted every bite to be fireworks in my mouth but sadly, it was very plain. Overall, it would still come back again!!! (Sorry for my spelling of the dishes 😅)

The Bun Cha Ha Noi is authentic and delicious!<br/>I have been looking for a place that makes it as what I remember eating in Hanoi and have found it here.
Magpie
Good food.<br/>Bargain value $10.00 lunch is well worth timing.<br/>A good menu with plenty of options for more adventurous dining.<br/>Good for take away too.
A Choong
Good local eatery serving tasty honest Vietnamese food. Great spring rolls. Generous portions of noodle dishes. Charcoal chicken rice vermicelli salad had great flavour and pho broth has depth but the chicken in it was rather dry
Whataboutfood
Ordered takeaway tonight - crispy chicken red rice dish. They forgot to provide the Vietnamese salad or any other condiments which was supposed to accompany the dish. Very plain and disappointing.

Great little Vietnamese place in Brunswick that caters for both vegans and non vegans. Nice decor and ambience, and a good crowd for a Thursday night.<br/><br/>Unfortunately our food took too long to come out, and our mains came out separately. The waitstaff came over far too often to clear various plates and cutlery off the table even though we were still eating. This dampened our experience. <br/><br/>Other than that the food was tasty and reasonably priced with good portion sizes. We ordered the salt and pepper tofu and the eggplant tofu hotpot. Both delicious. Friendly staff and the option to split bills, which is very important. Look forward to trying more of the menu.

Stars for quick service and value for money<br/>Lost stars for bathroom, odor in the venue, dirty tableware, and having to walk through a corridor which doubled as a food prep area

Given the recent hype around fusion and modern cuisine, you’d be hard pressed to find such authenticity in ethnic foods especially within the trendy suburb of Brunswick.<br/>Don’t be fooled by the modern fitout at Hanoi Rose, as they most definitely offer locals a true and authentic Northern Vietnamese experience that’s bound to satisfy.<br/>Their delicious original Vietnamese flavours coupled with generous portion sizes definitely won’t disappoint, and with such affordable pricing, it’s no surprise it’s such a hit with the locals!

Was excited to have a Vietnamese restaurant on the strip. Decor is bright and welcoming. Staff are friendly. Food - well that’s what we go for. Hanoi rolls are the best love the taste and fresh herbs and lettuce. Salt and pepper fish with appleslaw is devine. The appleslaw helps cut through the salt of the fish and makes the whole fish stunning. I’m happy to have this restaurant near me and am looking forward to trying the pho and other treats.

We were there for dinner and had a great experience! Going in, we were greeted with beautiful street art and a spacious surrounding. Let’s get straight into what we had:<br/><br/>Drinks - ice tea with lychees and Vietnamese coffee which were both rich and tasty<br/><br/>Hanoi spring rolls - these aren’t your typical spring rolls, they puffed up but are still crispy giving that delicate crunch!<br/><br/>Beef wrapped in betel leaves - this was personally my favorite as these babies melted in my mouth and were so juicy and tasty!<br/><br/>Salt and pepper silken tofu - this dish was beautifully decorated with mixed vegetables which made it even more colorful and exciting to eat!<br/><br/>Bun cha hanoi - one of my favorites which includes rice vermicelli that is dipped in a fish sauce broth which feels light and delicious at the same time! 🤩<br/><br/>Bun bo hue - another of my favorites which is essentially spicy beef noodles which had just the right kick for me. Spicy lovers out there, this will be a good choice for you!<br/><br/>Overall, had a great night out and would recommend it to those interested in Vietnamese food! 👍

Absolutely delicious food, very good prices, lovely staff. This is the Vietnamese restaurant I've been looking for in Brunswick! Surprisingly spacious dining rooms; the back room was quiet at 6pm on a weekday night. I honestly do not know why this place isn't packed out 7 nights a week.

Third visit here tonight. Recommend the Vietnamese Coleslaw (vegetarian) and the Rice Vermicelli Bowl with Rockling, Turmeric & Dill. Make sure to add the chilli, fried onion, dried prawn condiment if you want extra heat / salty umami flavour boost.
Bella
Great food and really great service! I’ve been to a lot of Vietnamese restaurants and this one is awesome. There was a lot of nice stuff to choose from on the menu and I will definitely be coming back!

Three of us stopped by here tonight as we were at a nearby event and needed food. What a great discovery. Food was fresh, delicious and fast. Great service with a smile. We live about 30 minutes away ( on a good drive ) and all agreed we’d be back.

Hanoi Rose is easily one of the best authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Melbourne. Highly recommended. We had vegan dishes like Nem Ha Noi, Silky Tofu, and Egg Plant Clay Pot, and vegan fried rice. Really loved them. Will definitely come back to try other dishes.

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants I have found since visiting Vietnam last year, BunCha that is actually BunCha ! Authentic food, relatively cheap, will visit again.<br/>

Have been waiting to try this restaurant. I wasn’t disappointed, service was good friendly. However towards the end of the night as they got busier our plates stayed on the table and follow up for dessert had to be initiated. I put this down to two waitresses (one being the owner I believe) only.<br/>That aside the food had fresh flavours and was scrumptious. Hanoi rolls are a must, salt and pepper fish with apple salad also a must. <br/>My next visit will be to demolish more fresh goodness. Thank you Hanoi Rose, welcome to the food tapestry of Brunswick.

K: 'Vietnamese food for foodies'. With a motto like this any zomato reviewer would be lured in to try! I'm a big fan of Vietnamese food and often refrain from getting it in places outside of more authentic and local Asian communities but today I decided to try Hanoi Rose because what's life without a few risks?<br/><br/>With a very nice Brunswick typical ambient exploring a windowless restaurant with very artsy and decorated interior, this place is definitely easy on the eye. Today I opted for the beef brisket pho and let me say I was very pleasantly surprised. The noodles hit me first with just how soft and tasty they were, very high up there in comparison with other pho I have had. The soup broth was also quite tasty, with just the right amount of salt and flavour, but definitely could have done with a bit more punch- which thankfully, you can include with the sauces provided on the side. The beef was very tender and soft, easy to consume and fall apart in your mouth however it lacked significant flavours.<br/><br/>With that being said though this was definitely a very hearty and authentic Vietnamese pho meal and I can see myself visiting here again. Strong pho that I can recommend to locals!<br/><br/>Food: 3.5/5<br/>Service: 2/5<br/>Ambience: 3.5/5<br/>Value: 3.5/5<br/><br/>Overall: 3.5/5

The food looks amazing, ingredients are always fresh. The chicken ribs were delicious! The Vietnamese salad tastes quite plain, a bit more dressing would be nice.<br/><br/>The young guy did an awesome job and was really friendly. He was greeting customers, taking orders, making drinks and serving customers at the same time. However, the other waitress was just sitting around and playing with her phone. <br/><br/>Overall a nice Vietnamese restaurant, <br/>would come back!

I really like this restaurant! The food is very good and great value for money, especially the $10 lunch deals. The owners and staff are also very friendly and welcoming and the place is very clean.

Lovely clean interior, the staff are really friendly, and the food was delicious! We had the soft shell crab and spring rolls . Casual dining and prices are good, I would definitely return 😁
Giselle.o
At $10 the lunch deal is great value. Tofu vermicelli salad was delicious and quick. Staff were helpful and made sure to ask if I wanted fish sauce (I’m vegetarian).
RueBear
Food was good and slightly different from your standard Vietnamese restaurant. The Hanoi style spring rolls were definitely a treat and the spicy soup broth had a distinct flavour. The staff, however, might need a bit more training as they seemed a bit disorganised at times.
Tbomb
This place is very good..the Hanoi style spring rolls with crab etc. were crispy and delicious and the beef pho was nice, the highlight for us was the salt and pepper tofu which was not at all greasy but light and delicate and used very high quality silken tofu which gave a lovely softness to the dish the service was also friendly<br/><br/>you will eat well here!

We were looking for somewhere to eat late-ish on Boxing Day and came across this fairly new Vietnamese restaurant in Sydney Rd Brunswick - just down the road. The kitchen was closing in five minutes so we ordered very quickly without properly checking the menu: rice paper rolls, salt and pepper squid and eggplant. All delicious. The staff (owners?) were really friendly and we will certainly be back... a new neighborhood favorite! I’ve been back three since - the last time was fabulous.
Amale Scally
We had a great night dining at Hanoi Rose. The food was delicious, the portions generous and the prices very reasonable. The place filled up quickly on the night we were there. Our absolute favorite was the crispy fried tofu with black sesame seeds (we ordered seconds!) but we also thoroughly enjoyed the two types of spring rolls on offer and the Vietnamese salads. So great that vegans are also catered for! All round, a great new addition to Brunswick, and already ticking all the boxes only 3 weeks after opening. We will definitely go back.
Waz
Very average - opened too early I would say - food is good tho don't get me wrong but little ambience at this stage - salt and pepper egg plant to die for- no noise here so nice and quiet - beer selection nil and wine ordinary - not cheap - week 3 - may improve
Haeison Romero
We’ve been to this restaurant since it opened. The people are caring but they always get the order wrong. While the food was ok, in a short period of time, they’ve already started skimping on the amount of meat some dishes have. They’re prices are not cheap either. Compared to Hanoi Hanna in Windsor, which is way better this is a rip! Service is patchy, servings skimpy and food is average at best.
