Review Postmistress - Brunswick

Dante M
The food is mostly fine. However for some reason they don't put a lid on both pizza boxes? The base of the top pizza is used for the lid of the bottom pizza. This means the base gets oily and dirty, so you can't put it on your lap or bench without other things getting messy. It also means you can't keep your second pizza warm as it has no lid. Also in my case, my friend can't easily take it home with him if he doesn't finish his pizza. This is my second time having Postmistress. The first time they forgot to put chilli on the pizza. This time I mentioned it, and asked for extra. Still no chilli.

One star is being generous. 1 and a half hours wait for delivery on a Tuesday night, and this is what shows up. Never again for uber eats or postmistress unfortunately.
Dean Mak
It was nice. They managed to seat us without a reservation on a busy night and the service was still good. The pizza is tasty with beautiful crispy bubbles and the calamari was really good...so fresh. I'd probably go for takeaway next time though as it's more of a family vibe than a place for couples

Been going here for years and we always love it. Continuously packed so I strongly recommend booking, but it’s worth it! Food is top notch and the cocktails are an excellent compliment. Highly recommend the pizza or a special. Have never been disappointed by a single item on the menu though, so can’t really go wrong.

Great food, terrific atmosphere. A well stocked cocktail bar is available if you like to arrive early for your booking. A tip is to book; and they have different sittings which makes dining with families easy.

We dined at Postmistress last night, a restaurant that has been on my list for a month or so and it didn’t disappoint. Kind of in a random location amongst nothing but the venue is stylish, the staff personable and friendly and the pizza absolutely delectable. The cocktail list was extensive and delicious and the potato croquettes with truffle mayonnaise simply delightful. A little inflexible with the seating times as it’s either 6pm or 8pm but really authentic Italian and thoroughly enjoyable. Will try the pasta next time as there will certainly be a next time

The food was really good, but the servers are all very young and the lack of experience/training shows. Had to ask for water 3 times, and the last time being told “I’m not allowed to do that” before I just went up to the bar to ask a fourth time. Unsure why someone couldn’t get us water, or why they told us that! We were sat right next to the bar…. The gnocchi was amazing and highly recommend ordering. the pizza base is perfectly chewy with bits of char from the oven - they have mastered the pizza base.

Disappointed after hearing great reviews.. The manager or owner wasn't very pleasant I felt he was annoyed and while coming up to him and a waitress it was obvious they were talking about me....thought maybe I was being judgemental but my friend said they same thing when she came to the table about she felt he wasn't very pleasant to her Waitress was young and lovely but obviously told to get us out as quickly as possible... always at our table rushing us not comfortable night. Food was good.

Incredible fit out and service. This was just the start. The squid ink pizza was the best pizza I've ever tried. Hands down the best. Then the lamb ragu. Well. There are no words. The best meal I've had in a very very long time. Proud this establishment is in my hood! See you next week.

One of the best restaurants I've been to in a very long time where the emphasis is on the "customer" and customer service.. Such fantastic service from our waitress Marie, a fun-loving, helpful an attentive young woman who is a real asset to this place. Compliments to the chef ... the food was scrumptious, and we had it all ! Entrees, mains and dessert ! Such a lively, bright, friendly place, very good service and top quality food. Can't wait to return and try some more from the Menu. Thanks for opening this much needed restaurant at the other end of Brunswick (west) !! We'll be back ☺️

We had my mum’s birthday dinner there, the food was delicious. BBQ chicken, seafood pasta, pasta ragu, arancini, polpette, fried calamari, everything was mouthwatering. The place itself was tastefully done, the staff were friendly without being overpowering. Loved it all!!

Amazing food, gorgeous looking place and very friendly staff. So many cocktails and wine to choose from (who doesn't love wine on tap !! ) will definitely be back.

Loved everything about this restaurant, food is flawless , service is on point staff are very tentative and most importantly understand their menu . Best thing is it’s our new local can’t wait to visit soon !

So far have tried the GF gnocchi, pizza and Tiramisu and they were all delicious. So far this is, is the best GF pizza I have tasted. The service was good and having wines and cocktails sold by the litre are great options when dining as a group.

Can not recommend these guys enough! We hosted our sons christening today and it was a fabulous day! We had just under 120 people and these guys made the day perfect! Thank you to Pat and his team for an amazing day! And as always the food was great!

What can I say about Postmistress Italian restaurant service, food and drinks were amazing recommend Postmistress to anyone that loves traditional Italian food

As a manual wheelchair user it’s hard to find fully accessible eateries in Brunswick area or north/northwest of the city, let alone ones with great food, decent service, comfortable interior and tables I can pull up underneath. Food was worth the price. This was a great choice for dinner with a group of friends on a cold night.
Stephan Dörrenberg
Service was good but food unfortunately quite average. For entree we had bruschetta, chicken meatballs and lamb skewers. The bruschetta was soggy, the meatballs very bland and only the lamb skewers very yummy. 2 of us had the same pasta dish (w lamb) which was nice - our friend‘s pizza on the other hand was boring and did not have a crispy base at all. It’s good to have a new trendy restaurant in the neighbourhood and I wish they well but I don’t think that I would go again.

Service was excellent. Good wine lust and menu. Minor disappointment the steak was a bit over done, ordered MR got a M, it was tasty though.

Amazing food , most friendliest staff and great atmosphere yum yum

Love it. Food was delish. Drinks were yummy. Service was excellent, Mary( our waitress) was so helpful and accommodating. Great place.

Really nice venue. Chairs tables atmosphere amazing. Food quality is also really good, slow-cooked lamb pasta was exceptional, the pizza traditional and the deserts great quality. Menu wasn’t great, I get the authentic Italian concept but when you can’t read or understand most of the menu it’s quite frustrating...particularly when every single waitress and waiter have heavy accents and limited English. Very frustrating. But the food quality outstanding. Recommend

Drinks are pricy..$5 for a soft drink and only 1 apple cider, listed under beers...cider is clearly not a beer. Pizza prices are a bit expensive and very thin. Hard to eat but ok sizing. Meals arrived quick but hurried us with dessert/coffee and the bill as they wanted the table.

My family and I attended Postmistress for a surprise birthday function. When making the reservation, staff were accommodating and friendly, making the whole process easy.<br/>On the day, the staff went above and beyond to ensure that all of our guests were served in a timely manner, that there was plenty of food, and paid special attention to the birthday girl. Despite the party crowd getting rowdy at times, the staff dealt with the noise in a professional manner. They made the day easy, relaxing and all round wonderful. All of our guests noted the excellent service, food and venue. Thank you for a great day. We will be back again.

It would be great for the restaurant to allow split billing and also include American Express as an accepted card.

I’ve heard great things about Post Mistress so I decided it was time to give it a go. The restaurant is stunning. As soon as you enter you can’t help but notice the modern layout which sets the tone for your dining experience. I ordered the ricotta gnocchi which was honestly one of the best gnocchi dishes I’ve ever eaten. Light and fluffy potato which literally melts in your mouth. The portion size was pretty generous so I couldn’t fit in dessert. The service was spot on too. I’ll definitely be back.

Nice fit out, friendly staff and the food was good. Dessert was a highlight, recommend the Chocolate tart with mascarpone cream (see picture)👌

We had an amazing dinner at Postmistress and I would recommend this restaurant as the best Italian in Melbourne & not to mention the best customer service!

An amazing experience on 23/07/19 From the friendly staff who made us feel so welcome to the incredible flavours of the traditional Italian menu with a modern twist, post mistress is by far the best Italian restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. With a party of 6 we all order different meals and pizza to share. Every dish was made with love, and make sure you leave room for dessert. OMG the tiramisu will blow your mind. Brunswick you are so lucky to have this gem. Thanks for a great evening. Definitely my new go to Italian restaurant 😀

Pretty disappointed to be honest. I had a group of 18 yesterday and we oragnaied to have the $60 set menu. The pizzas weren't geat, they served raw chicken and warmish cooked meat. We flagged the issue and then they replaced the chicken... They stuffed the seating numbers, as we calmly tried to resolve the issue, the manager on duty was disrespectful. He wasn't pleasent to deal with, especially when he raised his voice at my sister and I. Avoid at all costs if you're trying to organise a group setting. Definitely got ripped off and would never recommend them again.

We recently had our parents 60 wedding anniversary at Postmistress. Patrick and his team were a pleasure to deal with and the food on the day as promised was excellent. Waiting staff couldn't do enough for our party of almost 50<br/>- Richard Brown

The pizza was nice although our main meals were only average. I had the lamb shank and it was the toughest shank I have ever had plus it only had about 2 tablespoons of mash with it which is not enough.<br/>We also ordered the Nutella calzone. It was ok. Quite doughy. It didn’t come with ice cream at $14. We had to pay an extra $4.50 for 1 scoop. A whole tub costs around $5. What a rip off. <br/>I won’t return.

My family and I attend Postmistress on a regular basis and what always amazes me is the food quality every single time we go. It just gets better and better. The pizzas are the best I have ever had, crispy wood fire pizza with quality toppings. The interior of the restaurant is designed so well. The ambient lighting, the furniture and the whole design in general always makes it an experience to remember. The staff are absolutely amazing, they always go above and beyond to ensure our experience is a good one. They always over step my expectations which is why they are my go to restaurant.

Times must be tough at PostMistress if you're calling up customers once I have cancelled to abuse them over the phone.  Gave more than enough notice (7 hours), and received a phone call telling me how he won't be able to fill the spot now and went on rant that I didn't even get a word in. And if he had bothered to ask WHY we are cancelling, it is due to unforeseen circumstances that we are unable to celebrate Mothers Day this year. But thats ok, all about the money it seems - not about the customers.

Went for a business lunch diring the week, service was nice enough but found the food just average. was a very quiet day as only a few people in the restaurant. i hear this place is usually buzzing so will probably try again

I’ve heard really good things about this restaurant, but tonight my experience didn’t reflect that. The venue is nice, however the customer service is lacking. We had to make multiple attempts to get a waiters attention throughout the night, in addition to this our food took an hour to be brought to us. The food is overpriced in comparison to its taste and calibre. The chicken was cooked perfectly but lacked favour. You just expect alittle more when you’re waiting an hour for your food.

Our local place for an Italian fix, great woodfire pizzas and house made pastas not to mention the tiramisu is sensational, creamy layers of marscapone cheese and strong coffee soaked biscuits bounded together. Cocktail are a hit there too, always room for small or large groups. Bookings are essential

So impressed, from the service to the food everything was wonderful! <br/>We had one waitress for the night with different servers who delivered our food, their communication with each other is impeccable as no one needed to ask who had what dish they already knew! <br/>My partner and I had 3 courses each. First course I had was arancini, they were light and cheesy with a delicious crispy crumb. My partner had the lamb skewer which I had a cheeky taste of and it was so delicious with a fresh lemon and parsley dipping sauce. For main I had the lamb ragu agnello was rich in the best way, the lamb just fell apart and was paired with a delicious red recommendation. Dessert was oh so good crema catalana, creamy lemon custard with burnt sugar shell with a side of pineapple which cut through the richness of the dessert. Then we finished with cocktails, partner raves about his English garden and I throughly enjoyed my pink cotton candy. Top night! Cannot wait to go back!

The vibe in the place was nice. The staff all seemed to be from Europe which got us even more excited for some authentic Italian food. One star lost as the sauce for the ricotta gnocchi seemed a little bland and reminded us of canned tomato purée. Otherwise the food was beautiful, wine was nice and service was lovely. Will definitely like to come back and try more.

Yep. Good place. Wanted to try it and glad I did. The pescatora was delicious and the calamari starter was great. There’s just something holding me back from 5 stars and I can’t quite explain it. Is it the wait time? We did have a large group...maybe it’s the lack of splitting bills? Agh. Dunno. But still. Good joint.

Italian fine dining in a casual way. Great service, quick and spot on. Beautiful pizza’s and pasta’s, all served with a smile. Great place for the neighbourhood, not pretentious but definitely above your average Italian.

Awesome space, great place to catch up. Postmistress located in Brunswick West in a old post office, is the place to be. Tasty authentic pizzas, delicious entrees and even more to that, mouthwatering dessert🙌😭.. Tables were full, food came out fairly quick and I can say definently will be back!!
Sweet And Sour Fork
Although Postmistress is billed as an Italian eatery, with a selection of pastas, mains, and share plates, it was the pizza we were really after. The classic Margherita ($18) is done in the traditional style, the thin base and puffy crust smeared with ripe tomato, pools of mozzarella, and a few leaves of fresh basil. The base is a bit too thin and soggy here, even taking into account the time I spent snapping photos, but other than that, it is a solid rendition with creamy cheese, and a satisfyingly robust tomato sugo.

If I want pasta or pizza Postmistress is the spot! Very busy so book at peak times! Great food, great service. Stylish restaurant that suits date night or family dinners

First time customer to this restaurant and very impressed... will definitely be back again!<br/>Delicious risotto & yummy cocktails. Very attentive and efficient table service. 👌

I took my dad here for lunch today. Our booking was for midday, the time it opens, so one of the first here - definitely filled up quite a bit by the time we left, even on a cold, rainy Saturday.<br/>They had a great wine list - I had a glass of the Shiraz, delicious (can’t remember which wine it was, but it was the only Shiraz by the glass). <br/>We shared the rosemary and sea salt focaccia - perfect combo of crispy and a little chewy, hot and fresh straight out of the oven.<br/>I had the lamb ragu pasta and my dad had the ricotta gnocchi with pumpkin. Both very yummy and good serving sizes. I had the tiramisu and a cappuccino for dessert, my dad had the affogato with frangelico. I didn’t quite finish my tiramisu (it definitely could be shared between two) but it was delicious, not too sweet. Good customer service too, even though it was busy. Will be back!

Ultimately we had a great time at Postmistress, the restaurant is beautiful and the food is fresh and tasty. We did have to wait 15 minutes for our table (that we had booked in advance) and asked 3 times for water before we finally got it. However it was a busy night and the staff were friendly and prompt with everything else we ordered. Highlights were the entree calamari, garlic pizza, seafood pasta and panattone!

I took the two pictures as crime report ;-). It's a napotelan style pizza. Wich get cold straight away after been in the oven. Chewy and soft. But is not been put right amount of love in the fermentation process. It's heavy, after the first slice you'll fill it in the stomach. The filling is really good and tasty. They have to work on the base!

Had a function for 30 people today and couldn’t be happier with how it went. All guests were really happy with the food and the service and would highly recommend Postmistress. Thanks for a great day

Beautiful setting, perfect for a catch up with friends or family. Apparently this building used to be an old post office, hence the name of the restaurant. <br/>Came here with a bunch of friends for lunch. I had the squid ink pasta with crab meat. Nothing beats fresh pasta I reckon, they are generous with the crab meat which is great to see. My friends are raving their food too. Would love to come back and try out a different dish.<br/>

Amazzzzing! What a great find in the burbs.<br/><br/>My work colleague suggested we catch up for dinner locally. What a suprise to walk into the great open space with modern furnishings and a very well stocked bar too.<br/><br/>For a cold winter Melbourne night is was very warm and cosy we ordered the tagliolini with the house made squid ink with a very generous serving of crab meat  as well as the asaparagus and chilli.<br/><br/>I had the Paccheri Con Agnello which were large tube past with very tender braised spring lamb it was a very generous serve full of flavour and very delicious. But I did have food envy as my friend ordered the Gluten free beetroot gnocchi with 4 cheese sauce ( which also  can be offered as vegan by removing the cheese sauce) after trying some it was delicious so I know what I will be ordering next!<br/><br/>Food was authentic too with very attentive service.<br/>Make sure you book as we were booked in the first seating and on our way out the restaurant was full to capacity  ( and it was only Thursday!)

Service was exceptional, food was mouth watering good and prompt. Could not fault! Great place to take the family for a relaxed meal. Felt like we were on holidays! Thanks Post Mistress.

What’s happened to the ricotta gnocchi? I’ve eaten them four times previously. It was always the go to dish. Last night we took friends and encouraged them to have the ricotta gnocchi. I believe we were given normal gnocchi instead. Though better than average they are nowhere near as nice as the ricotta. Either you made a mistake or have substituted potato for ricotta.
Cleo Gatta
Great food, pizzas were delicious, nice authentic italian pizza bases.<br/>The gnocchi were divine, wish it was alittle bigger.<br/>Friendly service and great atmosphere.

Have been wanting to try this for awhile. Service was friendly. Really spacious and beautiful place. It was packed on Saturday night. Had the mixed selection of cured meats which was nice. The server asked us if we wanted foccaccia which made me think that it didn't come with bread but I didn't think to ask. We ordered it but it wasn't necessary. The tagliolini had crab shell in it. Otherwise, it was nice. I preferred the flavoursome scialatielli which had 2 mussels, 3 prawns and bits of small calamari (it's good to know). Pasta portions were on the smaller side. Overall, food wise I may go again but I prefer other pasta places like Tipo00. Ambience is great so would be great for drinks.

Fantastic food in a beautiful, modern setting. Generous and unpretentious yet classy portions of hearty Italian food - have tried several of the pasta dishes and all were very yummy. Most outstanding of all was the service, very friendly and attentive staff. The only notable fault here is price, which felt a little steep - however overall a great lunch or dinner to be had here, plan to come again for sure.
The Pet Roo
Great vibe here, popular on a Friday night so we booked for the early 6.30 sitting giving us a good 2 hours. Two of us decided to order a selection of Assaggi (tasting portions, think tapas!) We ordered the calamari, tortino, croquettes and the arancino. The calamari fritti were nice especially with the lemon and rocket. The only thing i question is the squid ink mayo, it looks impressive but adds little to the calamari. The baked pecorino tart (tortino) was delicious with its crumbling pastry, served with a tangy tomato coulis and sauteed porcini, this dish will not disappoint. The croquettes were good, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside but the star for me was the arancino. I've had many mediocre arancinis usually with a thick layer of rice until you eventually hit a small cheesy or meaty centre. This arancino was full of flavour throughout, basically from the first bite you could taste the meat, peas and mozzarella and no need to wait until the end, i could have eaten a few more of these. For dessert i chose the semifredo inspired by the classic Sicilian cassata and very impressive when it arrived, excellent plating. The semifredo came with a yummy pistachio crumb and amareno cherries but it was way super sweet for me and just needed a layer of unsweetened frozen cream for relief. I tasted the tiramisu and it had the perfect balance, my choice for desert next time! Also a friend had the gnocchi di ricotta and apparently they are amazing. This place has a beautiful retro feel being a former post office and they have retained the beautiful steel framed windows with rippled glass. Great to have an italian restaurant of this standard in the area.

Great decoration and use of colour. The staff is amazing very friendly and helpful. We had 3 pasta dishes and a pizza amongst us, all of them were yummy yummy

Filling a gap in the local restaurant scene - a local place to go when you don't feel like travelling far. The arincini and calamari were tasty, but rather oily which could have been remedied by draining/towelling the products briefly before serving. The pizza and pasta were very good, and well priced. The pizza gets cold very quickly as it's served on an unheated ceramic plate. Service was perfunctory after a pretty slow start - we waited almost 15 minutes to order at 5.45pm (i.e. only a few tables were occupied). A wine is $9 and an imported beer is $11. They don't accept AMEX.

My 3 Key Pointers <br/>* It’s a shame how the updated version of Zomato does not allow for half-point ratings anymore, I would have given them a 3.5 potentially a 4.<br/>* Rustic Italian simplicity is what they have in mind. Woodfire Pizza and handmade pasta is the highlight.<br/>* West Brunswick just got another groovy, great looking eatery.<br/><br/>Walking in and you will be blown away. Who needs to travel to the CBD when you have this in close proximity. I’m happy just to hang for drinks and admire the decor. Blush pink cushioned seating and grey chairs, pot plants inviting the outside in, dark ceramic plates. Attention to detail was marvellous. Great place for date nights, just sit in between glass dividers for some privacy or an early dinner with the kids at the back where no one can hear you constantly telling them to behave. They have everyone covered and the menu also does not discriminate. Do you want Meat, Vegetarian, Gluten-free, Vegan, they have thought about you carefully. The staff were outstanding and this is why local customers will make this a destination. I do think I was more in love with the visual and staff, the food came third best. It was not bad, we did enjoy our selection but just a few minor things. The margarita pizza was fantastic and yes it may seem simple but I have had many bad ones. Best known for the Scialatielli that originated from the Amalfi Coast. Seafood Bisque, fresh seafood and pasta. The portion size, in my opinion, was tiny and having to eat my sons leftover pasta is not ideal, bread on the side or a few extra strands of pasta would have gone a long way. I love seasoning and always one to put extra salt but even for a salt lover, this tasted salty. Love a Nutella Pizza but adding cinnamon doughnuts rather than strawberries or a scoop of ice cream made this really bland and very rich. We had to pinch the kid's ice cream. I will come back as I need something hip, modern and in close proximity to home for a date night.

Hard to fault.<br/>Monday evening dinner and the place was mostly full. A good sign.<br/>Very professional and attentive wait staff.<br/>Not a big menu but a GOOD menu.<br/>Specials were carefully explained and the suggested wine options added to the professionalism exhibited in all respects at Postmistress.<br/>Dishes were flavorsome and generous. Calamari was excellent as was the Tartino.

We visited last night and everything was great. The staff were very friendly. We started with antipasto cured meats and buffalo mozzarella with a garlic and rosemary focaccia. Delicious. Pastas for mains were great. The gnocchi is some of the best I’ve had. Pizza was very good too. We shared a tiramisu for dessert. Strong coffee flavour which I enjoy.

This place is newly opened in November 2017. Amazing decor & very friendly & professional service. A good place to go for group bookings also. Food was great and not over priced. Highly recommend.

These guys know how to run a restaurant. Great food, great service and attention to detail. I am pleased to follow these owners as they consistently produce a good restaurant. We celebrated my mother’s 79th Birthday at Postmistress. 27 of us and not one complaint. As Italian born and bred, we walked away feeling very happy that we could eat somewhere that brings us back to Italy whilst living in this great Country Australia. Well done Postmistress for delivering a genuine Italian and high quality food experience.

This place has always caught my eye when driving up melville Rd. Tonight we stopped in to check it out and were pleasantly surprised. Fantastic Italian menu. Better than your standard aussie/Italian fare. Service and atmosphere was fantastic.

Wow....... this newly opened hidden gem is my new favorite restaurant for sure. The menu is just amazing with traditional Italian food. Couldn’t fault the menu at all and it’s reasonably priced. The cocktail list was to die for. I loved everything about this place, even to the glasses and plates. The staff are so lovely and professional and all in all I think this guys have a winner here. Well done postmistress!!!! Can’t wait to come back soon.

We arrived in a group of 10 for a second sitting on a Saturday night. We were promptly shown to our table and wow! It was a large table with comfortable seating and plenty of elbow room! The restaurant has an edgy urban feel to it and well spaced out with generous tables and comfortable chairs. The kitchen is to rear and like so many these days is in full view of the restaurant - I like this. We had a great waiter that was willing to make suggestions and to joke with us too- this really made it a great night for us. Now the food, we had a mixture of assaggi consisting of calamari, croquette, pollopette, arancino and they were all perfect! The mains were all great with not a single complaint. We had the house wine in a decanter and it was more than suitable for us. A tiramisu to finish together with an affogato and what more can you expect? Give this place a try they deserve it!
Campbell
Service was pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. Everyone at our table loved their meals. The lamb ragu pasta was fantastic and so was the pork and fennel sausage. Will definitely be coming back.

I’ve been here twice now & love this place. The food is beautiful. Service is great. Cocktails are fab. The only reason I won’t give it 5 is because it’s so loud in there! They need some more soft furnishings to dull the noise. Highly recommend if you want good, authentic, tasty Italian food.
Mary Pranjip
Delicious, fresh Italian cuisine. Light and spacious venue. Great service. Lunchtime better in terms of noise.  Evenings are full, restaurant is noisy with no soundproofing.
Queen Of Food
Delicious, authentic Italian food! Everything was well seasoned and delicious! The staff were really accommodating and friendly. <br/><br/>The only small suggestion would be to add some herbs to the beetroot gnocchi with cheese. <br/><br/>Can’t wait to come back to try more items on the menu!

I loved my first visit here and I will be back. DELICIOUS pizza and the Ragu was also great. We had a lovely glass of vino too. The service was gorgeous and our waiter was great. Perhaps a little on the expensive side but it was a nice night out and I enjoyed everything that I ate!
Deana Cannatelli
We came here wanting to try for a while and had heard a variety of different reviews so we thought we would try it for ourselves! We came on a Monday night, so it wasn't overly busy, but our experience was a pleasant one! The staff were super friendly and very attentive. I loved loved loved the decor and furnishing, it was so peaceful, relaxing and fresh! <br/><br/>We started with the arancini which were nice as well as the Nero Riso Salad (Black rice salad) which was good also, expect the one suggestion I have, would be to add more raisins to the dish, as oppose to the five we got (the raisins made the dish 100x better). <br/><br/>❤️ Gnocchi Di Ricotta ❤️ What a dish! If it wasn't so filling I'd have about five bowls of it 🙊 <br/><br/>Overall really enjoyed the food and place and would definitely be back to try a pizza (they looked delicious being brought out to others!!!)
Where Will We Eat
Postmistress had been on my list since opening, and despite other reviews sighting issues with noise, we opted to head here for a family dinner of Friday night.  Postmistress is a rustic Italian eatery with a great mix of dishes.  The service reminds me of places like DOC - a little too relaxed and inconsistent for some Melbournians, but while you might wait 15 minutes for a drinks menu (and on a Friday night that was almost a deal breaker!!), your waiter will be lovely and notice when your second round of ordered drinks haven't arrived before you have to chase it up.  <br/><br/>As for the food, we had quite the array on our table.  We started with the Affettati platter - a selection of local cured meats including salami, mortadella (MIL was in heaven!) and prosciutto.  We added some mozzarella and house made pickled veg.  The serving was generous and more than enough for us.  I found it hard to go past the Paccheri con agnello for my main.  A generous plate of large tube pasta served with braised spring lamb ragu.  Others around the table had the calamari fritti (listed as a small dish/entree, but more than enough with a side salad to make a substantial meal); whole baby red snapper cooked on the charcoal grill; risotto of the day with pea puree; and Al Mare woodfired pizza which had a beautiful base/crust.<br/><br/>As the night went on and the crowd thinned out, we began to enjoy ourselves a little more.  I think we'll probably head back to Postmistress, but it will be with this experience in mind.  Perhaps a late Sunday lunch will be the better time to try for this group.

I’ve been wanting to go since they first opened their doors. Finally last night went for dinner with a few friends. The restaurant was super busy. Didn’t expect in such a short amount of time since the opening that this place has already made quite a name for themselves. Beautiful decor and friendly staff. As mentioned in the other reviews it is somewhere you would not want to go for a quiet dinner. The noice didn’t bother me though. As for the food. We had not one bit of food left on our plates so it’s safe to say we definitely enjoyed our meal. For all my fellow vegan friends I had the Claudia Pizza and it was an absolute winner. Definitely will be a returning customer <br/>Keep up the great work Postmistress Team
Umbriaca
Tiny main meals. Main pasta nice but size of average kids meal. Bruschetta was not toasted just warm bread. Needs more choices on menu and proper serving sizes.
James Joseph
Food was great, nice fitout. However. We were in a back corner with lights blazing, felt like we were on centre court at the Australian open, would have had to be 60degrees plus. Asked multiple waiters/waitress to move to no avail. Even they said it was ridiculous and that it's going to be fixed in the future. Would have a) loved to be offered another table or b) maybe don't let your customers eat in the middle of the Arizona desert.

With the Cirelli and Co. being under new management and taking the brilliant Italian hospitality with them, I'm very thankful that Postmistress has opened up. The service and food have gone downhill.<br/><br/>Very modern decor with traditional Italian food. The owners are lovely and I'm so glad they put some sound proofing in because it was far too loud when it first opened.<br/><br/>Well done guys.

Great local venue with a lot of potential, food was nice, the calamari was exceptional, however I think they are trying a little too hard to be too fancy. The wine on tap was actually delicious! The venue decor, ambience and colour palette are beautiful.

We came in with a booking for lunch on a weekday as we were keen on a long relaxed boozy lunch. We made a booking for 2.30 and bookings were able to be made all day. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly empty. It took us about 15 mins to get to a point ready to order food (combo of bathroom visits and staff just not coming over to see us). I said to the waiter we would just order a few things to start and order another round later. It was only then that we were told that the kitchen closes at 3pm (despite this not being stated on their own website). This was so frustrating - would have made an earlier booking if this was made clear. So we ordered maybe 6-7 small items to share along with some cocktails and prayed that it at least all didn't come out at once. Unfortunately it all pretty much did (there were some small gaps) leaving us with a crowded table and a feeling that we needed to rush.<br/>As far as ambience - it looks nice inside, clean and minimal although perhaps lacking a little warmth. It looks generic - modern colours, clean and sleek, pot plants etc and not much else. I agree with comments that it all comes across with that just opened feeling. It could benefit with a few quirks or something to make it look less like a standard room on The Block. The men's bathroom was just weird - a lockable cubicle with both a urinal and regular toilet in the same cubicle. No idea why that is necessary - seemed like bad design.<br/>Also need to mention here that there were a lot of flies in the restaurant - it got really frustrating to be waving them off plates and glasses. The waiters noticed and clearly preferred to avoid the issue - maybe they didn't want to disturb us? It might have been better to offer us a table on the opposite side of the floor so they could get rid of them while they were quiet. At one point I counted 8 flies buzzing around us while food was at the table.<br/>The food was good - again just small plates. We avoided the pasta and pizza as this wasn't of interest and seemed overpriced. The croquettes were great as was the salmon carpaccio. Drinks were also good. The caprese salad was not enjoyable however due to the variety of tomato used. Was very green, with a tough and chewy texture - but a small matter given the rest of the food was good.<br/><br/>I might go back after 6 months or so to see if they have been able to sort through the issues and get better established. It is great to see a place in that area with a bit of ambition and promise. It's not worth dismissing just yet.

Too loud inside. <br/>Pizza was OK, the base was on point but toppings lacked the pinch u need for a flavoursome Italian pizza. <br/>Also ordered seafood pasta and that was a little sloppy. <br/>Drinks were good.

Gluten free gnocchi and with four cheese sauce! GF cake of dark choc with orange custard! Both super delicious! A refreshing Peach Bellini capped off a lovely lunch!

The burger on special was just like your typical home made burger (in an amazing way) but the bun was a little wet another time I went there.. maybe the buns we’re previously frozen?<br/>The 4 cheese gluten free beetroot gnocchi was amazing I will definitely get that again.<br/><br/>The pecorino tart is a must try if your a cheese lover! <br/><br/>

Loved so many things about our dining at this new Brunswick eatery. Good simple and real Italian food. Great fit out, and good attentive service. The acoustics can be quite loud so if you're wanting a quiet intimate atmosphere, this place may not be for you. Loved the drink offerings. We started with Prosecco cocktails and Campari soda. We chose to share a few meals to sample the variety on offer. Everything we had was absolutely delicious. The house made lamb skewers were tender and so tasty. The fried calamari was a standout. Real calamari, lightly fried and the squid ink mayo is a great accompaniment. We had a gluten free foccaccia with sea salt and EVOO. Of course we had to try the fries. They were good but i was expecting hand cut potatoes rather than usual fries. The Postmistress Pizza was spot on. Love the takeaway boxes for left overs. There is always room for Dolci, we shared the Tiramisu which was spectacular and the Tortino. Can't wait to go back and try a few more of the menu offerings. These guys have only been open for 6 weeks - and the place was full on a Tuesday night. Its onwards and upwards 👍🏻👍🏻

Food was okay, service not good, $27 pasta is served in a small black bowl. The serving is really small for the price. Pizza was okay, the fillings are very little in comparison with the dough. Not going to return.

Popped in with my partner for some coffee and dessert and quite impressed! Wonderful service and layout was very "modern italian". There wasnt many ppl (as it was around 3pm) so cant really comment on the ambiance as much. We ordered the tiramisu which was delightful, soft amd melt in your mouth and the 'heaven on earth' which was basically bread and nutella and literally out of this world...perfection. way too much for one, but just right between two. The coffee was pretty good too. Looking forward to coming back and sampling the full menu soon! Keep up the good work

I just finished having dinner at Postmistress in west Brunswick with my young family. What can I say, it’s simple Italian cooking done really well everything is very tasty and visually appetising, my kids loved the ricotta gnocchi. It’s my new favourite place and I can’t wait to go back again. Staff are friendly and they have a really nice selection of wine. It’s just what west Brunswick needed !!

First time visit for a Tuesday lunch and the 2 of us were very pleased with everything we ate. The croquettes were a delicious starter and we had the wagyu bolognaise and ricotta gnocchi for mains. To get the full experience we ordered dessert too. The limoncello dessert could only have been improved by a slightly more punchy lemon tang and the semifreddi was perfection.<br/>With unlimited sparkling plus a juice drink the $88 bill was very reasonable for the quality of the food and the lovely service we received.

Ok, so I’ve read the other reviews and I have to agree. It’s suuuuper noisy in there. We could barely hear each other but we asked to move from the back wall, to the side tables near the door which was much quieter. <br/>I loved the decor: sleek, clean and sharp...and the wait staff were smiley, chatty and helpful which always helps make an experience. <br/>We ate:<br/>👍🏻Calamari with squid ink mayo<br/>👍🏻Raw salmon tartar<br/>👍🏻Smoked scamorza cheese croquettes<br/>👍🏻Lamb skewer<br/>Deeeeeeeelicious! We also had some drinks which weren’t bad either!👌🏻<br/>They’ve only been open for two weeks so still time to work out the noise issue. But we’d defs go back. <br/>I hope this place survives!!

We have been looking forward to this place opening and we were a little disappointed. <br/><br/>You walk in and your hit with a wall of sound, it was so loud in there that I had to lean over the table to hear my partner. It was just so loud that I didn't want to hang around.<br/><br/>Lucky for us we sat down, ordered and had our pizza come out 10mins later & within 40mins of arriving we were on our way home. <br/><br/>This place has a lot of potential, the pizza was a little over priced as I didn't think it was great.. especially with all the competition around.

We've been meaning to try it out since it opened and today we got the chance to go.When we walked in the first thing we noticed was the noise level. The interior is all hard surfaces so the noise is deafening. If the designer was not experienced enough to suggest acoustic panels they should certainly look at them now. I couldn't hear what my partner was saying to me from across the table. It has a huge bar with a beautiful polished concrete bench but throughout our dinner no one asked us if we wanted to order drinks. When we were given the menus we were a bit disappointed to find out that this is just another pizza and pasta place with pricey tags. I thought the selection of poultry sounded interesting till I was told it was 2 quail. Where's the 'selection'? My husband had high expectations when he ordered the chef's choice at market price but discovered it was just expensive ribs at $32. Ribs at market price? He was very disappointed when he found the ribs were tough and stringy. They really did not look very appealing. My first choice was the pork and fennel sausage, till I was told the only thing on the plate was the sausage. But a large sausage, I was told. How healthy is a dinner consisting only of sausage? Why do you have to forcibly upsell the sides by putting one sausage on the plate at $19? What happened to a balanced meal?I ended up ordering the gluten free twisted pasta which I found to be very dense and heavy on the stomach. My partner ordered chips on the side which were fine but the tomato sauce looked and tasted watered down. There were plenty of staff around and service was quick, the place is clean and bright if you can overcome the noise level to enjoy the view, but no atmosphere. If you've opened with your best, it's not enough to get us coming back again.

I been waiting with anticipation and finally the postmistress opened. To be honest, I was kinda disappointed. Not so much with the food, the food was ok. This joint feels cold and sterile. When you first walk in you think oh wow nice! But as time passed and you look around it’s as if they’ve tried to hard. No doubt this place will do well with the keeping up with the Kardashian’s type or the house wives of New Jersey. That’s it, it fees daggy considering the space they had to work with. Is soulless for an italian eatery.<br/><br/>Anyway Margherita pizza were good. So to the Calamari, fresh and tasty. The ricotta gnocchi were a little dense. The ragu wasn’t so good, the meat was not tender and the large tube pasta to al dente and the wrong pasta to serve with the ragu.<br/><br/>Service was appalling but it’s there second week in so you’d cut them some slack. <br/><br/>This place had huge potential but it’s to pretentious.
