Review Ciao Mamma! - Brunswick

Wandering Bruja
The venue is clean, quiet and warm. Probably one of the loveliest Italian pasta dishes we've come across around towns with what we ordered A versatile, but simple menu makes it easy to find what you fancy - just a little bit of a wait time on our meals even though we were a party of 3 and there was only one other occupied table for a public holiday lunch

Casual Italian dining at its finest! Great atmosphere and service with a focused menu. The arancini was a standout! Both pastas were incredible, with an explosion of flavours dancing around my taste buds. The gnocchi was like biting into a cloud, it just melted in my mouth. The carbonara was also delicious however the pasta was a little too hard for my liking but that’s just a personal preference. Overall still an amazing dining experience and will definitely be coming back! If you’re looking for a no fuss and delicious authentic Italian cuisine , then this is the place for you.

I really want to like this place more but my meal missed the mark so I'm marking it as ok. I got the fried calamari as a main and the serving size was very generous and the calamari was tender and not overcooked. However the seasoning was completely off, as I got about halfway through my plate I became aware how heavily salted the meal was - even the salad. I think perhaps a heavy hand on the salt in the kitchen. I ended up giving the rest to my partner who ate a few but also noted the high salt content. My dining companions ordered pastas and all thoroughly enjoyed them. Kind of wish I did the same. As a person on a strict gluten free diet I am so happy to see a Coeliac Australia accredited restaurant and I do want to support that. My friends ordered wheaty pasta so I can't comment on the taste. We also ordered the arancini as a starter and these were very good. Service was a bit iffy, with one friend mentioning the long wait between courses. I was content chatting so didn't mind so much. Hopefully I'll visit again some time and get to try something really special.

Superb handmade pasta(4 on the top of the menu). Would recommend mushroom Maria sauce to everyone, so creamy and rich in flavour! The white chocolate and raspberry ice cream tastes like cooled melted Chinese white rabbit candy. I personally am obsessed with this dessert.

Just superb! 6 stars if I could. My wife and mate are celiac and were in absolute heaven! Great staff and owners all very jovial and friendly. Highly recommended. We'll be back (even though it's a 20km drive across the city)
Tin_tin132 !!!
Very lovely staff, we were served by someone who said it was one of their first shifts and she was so kind and helpful. The food was also very very nice, a little bit on the smaller side, but that's okay because the entrees and desserts were also extremely nice, so I suggest getting one of each. Very accommodating for my coeliac (gluten free) partner which is very much appreciated as it can be so difficult at times to find somewhere we can all eat and still enjoy.
Emily Holmes
Overall experience was okay, just average. My partner and I both got pasta dishes which were very small servings and relatively tasteless. Definitely over priced for the serving size. Nothing compared to the authentic Italian we have had previously. Would have been nice to choose the amount of cheese on top as you do at other Italian restaurants. Probably won’t be back. Nice bread though.

This was our third visit and it didn’t disappoint! So glad you are a Coeliac Australia accredited restaurant and we can eat with confidence. Our waitress was fantastic by asking us if we had any dietary requirements straight up! We will continue to dine here and couldn’t be any happier with the food or service!
Rita Vella
The food here is absolutely delicious and the staff are lovely. Highly recommend this place. If you require a coeliac safe meal, they do yummy gluten free also. I will definitely be back

Have travelled down from the Central Coast of NSW and found this delicious casual restaurant around the corner from our accommodation. Such friendly, hospitable staff. Would recommend visiting and definitely try the “Tina-mi-su” Thanks Cia Mamma!

Food and service was amazing!!! My mum and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal, gluten free food was also incredible. Thanks again guys, can't wait to come again.

First time visit for a leisurely Sunday lunch with a group of friends. I have to say this place was outstanding for quality Italian food. Calamari was delicious and tender, pasta was outstanding - so fresh and the sauces delicious. Coffee and dessert didn't let down either, from start to finish, including service, attention to detail and decor it was simply excellent. Everyone in our group loved it. I will definitely be a returning customer :-)
Roland Hiller
The pasta is delicious, you can choose the type of fresh pasta and ingredients you like. It’s made individually to order. A great idea. I highly recommend trying the food at Ciao Mamma. Next time I’ll be trying the dessert.
Jen Oakman
Absolutely amazing! Tina's food is delicious and what a beautiful place to enjoy it! Highly recommend!!!!

Had a birthday at this little Italian gem, we all had a fantastic night. The food, drinks and staff were all awesome. Mamma looked after us!
Brighde Sullivan
We have come back for dinner at least once a week since our first visit. Food is delish, simple and fresh. Tina and crew are extremely welcoming and treat everyone like family. Sydney Road, Brunswick has needed a quality Italian eatery like this and we're extremely pleased this is a new local for us!
Chris Zhang
Had the pasta and creme coffee. Delicious. Highly recommend it.
Amy Williams
Beautiful Italian food cooked to perfection and the customer service was also second to none. I can’t wait to come back again and again and again!
Kristine Paladino
Amazing food, great, friendly service! Loved it!! Will be back! Congratulations Tina and family on a fantastic restaurant! Xx

Finally got around to attending Ciao Mama! after having it saved in my bookmarks for ages. I had high hopes after reading reviews but was quickly underwhelmed by their food.

Ordered "nonnas chips" which were standard fries with some capsicum in oil on top. The title made me think maybe they were handcut chips or something more fancy but they were literally normal fries (and average ones too).

The pasta was aldente however the Bolognese sauce had no real flavour or any stand out factor. It was just bland mince in tomato sauce.

Lost a star due to the fact I booked a table as per new covid directions yet was seated back to back with another customer (there was plenty other tables available). We were probably 30cm away from eachother not 1.5 metres. Would not return or recommend.
Nicole Windley
One word...wow!
Gluten Free gnocchi is very hard to come by, and with all the options at Ciao Mamma! I had to give it a try!
The gnocchi was amazing, yum soft pillows. The cocktails were moreish. The chips with the oregano were tasty, and the Nutella donuts...omg!
Gluten free diet or not, this restaurant is a must try!!
Absolutely amazing Italian, my family and I return for every family birthday dinner because we love it so much. The staff are incredible, extremely friendly and treat you like their own family. The food is without a doubt the best Italian in Melbourne. Highly highly recommend!!!

Lovely place, all the staff were so friendly and welcoming and you can tell the food is really fresh and not overwhelming sizes. If you like simple Italian authentic pasta then you will enjoy it a lot. The pana cotta with strawberries was also amazing. Will definitely return.

Delectable and divine are two words that cannot even begin to explain the experience of dining at 'Ciao Mamma!'. Being at 'Ciao Mamma!' was like walking across the piazza from the Trevi Fountain and sitting down at a native Italian restaurant. The food was melt in the mouth delicious and made me feel like I was at nonnas. What I loved most about this restaurant was the amount of time and dedication that was put into every little detail, like spending 6 months perfecting a gf doughnut recipe or importing produce from Italy. Every person at 'Ciao Mamma!' had their own means and their own lives, but were drawn together through one commonality- the love for authentic Italian food. My experience surpassed my high expectations and with each bite, I fell in love with the atmosphere and the food, it was like home away from home. I am certainly going to be a recurring visitor! Grazie mille xx

We were a group of eight for lunch yesterday which included two coeliacs and a FODMAP. The service was very friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. There was plenty of choice and the tasty and plentiful dishes were greatly appreciated. The desserts were very good indeed as was the coffee. What more could we ask for?
Joseph Capriti
Seems this place has mixed reviews - however I had a great time at Ciao Mamma, service was a bit slow but all the dishes were great :)
Daniela
A cute and cosy little restaurant with great food! Came here for lunch with family, and from the minute we walked in the door, were greeted with friendly staff, who went through their menu as we hadnt been before. We first ordered the antipasto platter to share and the cold meats were so fresh and tasty. Their homemade pasta was delicious and we all enjoyed our meals. The sauce i had with my pasta was a little bit on the bitter side, but other than that, everything was beautiful. We will be back :)

I went to Ciao Mamma two nights in a row on a recent trip to Melbourne. They were so lovely, and the food (gluten free for me) was exceptional. Honestly I think it was the best meal I’ve ever had in Melbourne. The gnocchi was light and perfect, the fried calamari so tender and delicious and the donuts. Oh mu gosh, the donuts. Highest recommendation. Enjoy it.

Surprising hidden Italian gem. Amazing food, outstanding service and polite staff/management. Pasta is extraordinary and deserts are delicious. Disappointment no chicken can be added to pastas. And they have run out mushroom sauce...and mushroom.. disappointing. But definitely recommend
Richelle Garrick
Small servings, not enough flavour and not much meat with the pasta
Travis Livori
Love the family atmosphere, food was delicious, the aranchini is a MUST! Service was flawless! Can’t wait to come back! #glutenfreelife
Beautiful pasta and beautiful service.. coming from an Italian background I never order pasta when I eat out, but this place is an exception..
Bellissimo!

Impeccable service and amazing food. All staff were very welcoming and friendly, food was delicious. Definitely recommend for a beautiful homemade meal.

Tried out this little gem for the first time and absolutely loved it. I ordered the tagliatelle with mushroom Maria sauce and I can say that it’s the best pasta I have ever had. I can’t wait to come back again.
Mrs_ox_qtn
The food at Ciao Mama is exceptional, absolutely delicious and authentic Italian fare. The GF gnocchi was the best I’ve had and the GF donuts a real treat, it’s hard to believe they are GF! Unfortunately however we found the portion sizes a bit small to say it’s value for money and they wouldn’t do a kids size GF pasta as “the portion sizes are already prepared and can’t be halved”. We had to pay $30 for Fettuccine Bolognese for my 2 year old coeliac son!
Abby Harders
So many great options for a Coeliac! Very nice food and great service
Lilian Wong
The best pasta I’ve had so far! Plus, the pasta is handmade fresh in store and cooked to perfect al dente. The wait is a little long but it’s definitely worth it. And there isn’t a lot of options on the menu which means they’re specialised in doing what they’re doing. Definitely recommended for pasta aficionados!
Tianran Teresa Pang
Kids like bolognese so much. Services are good and waitress will give you suggestion of the popular dish. We will definitely come back next time!

Great service by Daniel and the team!! Food is delicious!!

Absolutely love this place! I come here all the time. Pasta is so fresh and tasty, staff are always so welcoming and attentive and the desserts are to die for! Would highly recommend.

Was looking forward to going here all week after looking at reviews and photos on here however was very sadly disappointed :( was really hoping to add to the positive reviews. We got a bad vibe as soon as we walked in and they just pointed us to our table, no one took us over. We then waited 10 mins for a waiter to bring us a menu. Our 2 pastas took 45+ to come (and were tiny). I also heard the man on the table next to us complaining about the portion size. I ordered carbonara and had a couple of mouthfuls. It was sadly the worst carbonara I’ve had :( just tasted like they’d used powered sauce. No one checked on us during our meal and no one asked if we wanted the bill at the end. The 1 Star is for my boyfriends bolognese which was better than mine and he finished it, but nothing worthy of 4+ stars. I’m very sad to being giving this review as had been looking forward to this meal all week and now probably won’t return :(

A nice family run Italian restaurant in Brunswick! Really nice and simple Italian food. The Pizzas were great! And the pasta was perfectly good with the sauce really well seasoned. Highly recommend.

We love coming to Ciao Mamma! Fantastic quality of food, good atmosphere and extremely friendly service. Having the gluten free pasta also makes Ciao Mamma a perfect spot for those with celiac disease.
FoodieMelbourne2019
Ciao Mamma has become one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Melbourne. Whats sets them apart from other Italian eateries is that they make all of their pasta fresh daily, which I love!! The staff are always so welcoming, the venue itself is pretty cool and the food is just delicious. Two of my favorites are the Lamb Ragu with Rigatoni and the Mushroom Maria with Tagliatelle. Of course, I can never eat an Italian without a Tiramisu to finish and their 'Tina-mi-su' is absolutely delicious.
Nick Fontyn
I first stumbled across Ciao Mamma on Zomato after reading the reviews and thought I should check it out. This place has exceeded my expectations.
I have been to Ciao Mamma a few times since, and I already feel like I'm part of the family.

The staff are so friendly and welcoming, especially Mamma! Mamma takes the time to get to know her customers (a rarity these days), making you feel part of the 'Ciao Mamma' family every time you visit.

The pasta and sauces are made fresh daily and you can certainly taste the love! The quality of the pasta is the best I've ever had - perfect al dente.
The portion size of the pasta dishes are just enough that there's always room for dessert (the nutella mousse is amazing!).

Ciao Mamma is by far one of the best Italian restaurants in Melbourne. Grazie Mamma!

Amazing owners and staff, treated us super well. Made a coeliac and a wheat loving person both very happy. Great atmosphere and nice place to eat. Highly recommended.

A-MAZ-ING!!! Heard about this through insta and their gluten free fare. Went here today as a date with my partner and already looking forward to going back.
The service is outstanding. Attentive and genuine without being over the top.
I hadn’t had Italian in about a decade #gluten and was so hopeful it was going to live up to my expectation.
Had the pesto gnocchi, cannoli and got donuts to take home. Everything was DELICIOUS 🥰
My partner has no dietary issues and also loved the pasta and dessert he had.
Best gluten free I’ve eaten in forever. Will 100% be back.
Freefromguide
Visited for lunch and was very impressed with the menu and the many gluten free options! Had the gnocci Napoletana which was delicious! Would be great if there were more dairy free options for sauces and desserts also
Sara
Sorry guys probably won’t be back to dine with you after last night.

Took an hour for pasta to come and everyone’s was cold. Not warm, cold.
My bolognese sauce tasted raw straight out of a tin. I left hungry and felt ripped off.
This is not proper Italian cooking sorry.
Attended on their Valentine’s Day special earlier in the year. Staff were very good considering the amount of people they had to attend to and the food was very good for a good price. Will be back!
Kiara Rodda
amazing pasta! the gnocchi tasted wonderful and great portion sizes :) very friendly helpful staff overall fantastic experience and will be returning!!!

Excellent food including amazing gluten free options. As a coeliac, I love the GF pasta and desserts. So many Choices! Great service and lovely wines by the glass too.

Was excited to come and try this place out given the great rating on Zomato. I was quite underwhelmed though!! The service was very slow we got our mains about an hour after our entrees, the pasta was very average - the sauces were bland and not memorable. Not sure what the fuss is about!?
Luke Catoggio
Fan favourite! Authentic Italian cuisine prepared and cooked by the lovely Tina. Service always great.

Make sure you try the pasta carbonara and Nonna's chips 😋

The food was amazing. From the first plate of arancini balls to the salami & friends platter to the pasta I can't fault the food. When we ordered the desserts I felt like I was in heaven. The staff were so friendly. I'm definitely comming back for more food.
Hannah Collins
The staff made us feel like a part of the family, so friendly, warm and welcoming and the food, oh my goodness, Mushroom Maria was hands down the best pasta I have ever eaten, and that was the same for everyone at the table and their meals. 10 out of 5, two huge thumbs up, will most certainly be going back!!

Rhinono821
Good to try bolognese pasta with porcini mushroom and ricotta. Nice staff and nice environment. Would recommend. Coffee ice cream is amazing as well btw.

The food’s so great! Excellent customer service! Always there to meet my needs. The food was amazing, I would try everything on the menu, would 100% come back

Serving up mamma Tina’s homemade pasta and sauces, Ciao Mamma is the go-to, feel-good Italian restaurant in the heart of Brunswick.

And boy does the décor scream Brunswick: words piped in neon lights (read: Insta-worthy), lofty windows, exposed brick walls and pin-up bearded hipsters with French bulldogs. Giant tubs of Nutella and shelves lined with vino take a European turn, not to mention the alluring smells from the open kitchen.

The menu is like a ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ game – pick from six different types of pasta to go with a hearty sauce such as Mushroom Maria (cream, wine, mushrooms, garlic and herbs), Bolognese (slow braised beef and pork ragù, soffritto, rich tomato and herbs) and Carbonara (crispy pancetta, creamy egg and cheese).

The best part? You can enjoy a bowl, free of gluten. Yep, gluten FREE - not just gluten ‘friendly’ or another weight-loss marketing scheme. This place is legit and accredited by Coeliac Australia. After finding out their son Christian has Coeliac’s Disease, Tina and her husband created gluten-free versions of traditional Italian recipes without compromising taste. That way, everyone can still have a seat at the family table.

All the starters and antipasti are gluten-free like the Salumi & Friends, with hot salami, San Daniele prosciutto, pecorino sardo, baked olives and burrata, and the Arancini Balls, with cheese, pumpkin and mushroom sauce. Almost the entire menu has vegetarian and vegan options, too. Then there’s the dessert menu (mostly gluten-free) featuring favourites like Tina-mi-su, Panna Cotta and Nutella Mousse. Buonissimo!

Mamma! Outstanding customer / table service. Great authentic Italian menu - the food is prepared and cooked really well - really tasty!! Strongly recommended! Well done!
The High Tea Girl
Ciao Mamma is one of those cute family run businesses that you want to support. You support them because they are passionate about what they do and the food is good.
Choose your own sauce and select the pasta- love this option! You can’t go past the starters though-Polenta chips and the arancini balls are a must. Desserts are also delicious especially the Pannacotta.
H.leong
Beautiful homemade pasta accompanied by great pasta sauce. The mushroom sauce was very good - would highly refoonend. The staff are lovely too. Great atmosphere too!
The_Very_Hungry_Hippo
The food was super authentic in flavours and looks. The service was very pleasant. really well priced for authentic freshly made Italian cuisine. Amazeballs!!

Baffled by the great reviews for this place. 4.5 stars for 2.5 food?! I heavily rely on zomato reviews when I eat out but this has proven that it’s not always reliable. Just a warning for others out there. It’s bland and basic pasta that tasted like it could of been from a packet. The carbonara was shocking, it tasted like a child’s meal. I feel confident I could get better pasta from a food court.
Jessie Lee
Absolutely incredible food, and equally amazing staff to match! They also have an amazing range of gluten free options (the whole dessert menu) 😍
Beth Tezuka
This place is everything you could ask for in a pasta bar. All allergies are catered for (I am coeliac) the food is delicious and every staff member is friendly and welcoming. Go. It’s sure to provide a great meal.
Jordan McNamara
10/10! Thank you for a wonderful evening! So great that you are coeliac accredited! Our entrees were to die for and the pasta was simply amazing.
Daniel Deleo
Very good food and service. Authentic Italian. Homemade Pasta and sauce. Will definitely return for another meal here. We were all very pleased with our meals
@foodtom
Ciao Mamma! This family owned restaurant has an extraordinary range of pasta and dishes that you can eat. Most of the pasta is made in house and you can taste the difference! Definitely one of those places that are up there if you're a carb lover.
Melbourne.Food
Exclusive pasta place for pasta lovers! This family owned restaurant has some of the best pasta I've ever had the pleasure of eating! Delicious and authentic! The minion approves!
Cludy Foodie
First of all I love the very modern and industrial design of the restaurant. Just had to point that out.

I've went there for lunch with my partner and we ordered traditional Spaghetti Bolognese and Carbonara. The homemade noodles were amazing, not too soft and not too hard just ride in the middle. Bolognese sauce is my favorite and I have to say this one was one of the best I tried so far. The tomato was very rich in flavor and seasoned perfectly. My partner was very happy with his Carbonara as well.
Service was fast and the staff super friendly.

All in all a modern Italian restaurant with delicious and traditional homemade pasta!
Tina Taylor Dib
First time at Ciao Mamma but I felt like I’ve been there before because of the customer service there it was fantastic, I really felt like I was welcomed there. The food? It was delicious. I would definitely recommended going here, and I will be back soon!
Nicole Wamba
Best Pasta Ever! Mamma definitely knows her stuff when it comes to making pasta! One to add to your list of to do's. Do not go past this venue, you can thank me later!
Dan L
The very best pasta I've had in Melbourne! Started with salumi and friends - excellent. Moved onto mains - had classic spaghetti bolognese - pasta was fresh sauce had plenty of meat. Finished with a nutella mousse - brilliant. Inside the place looks awesome too.

Very disappointed considering how many great reviews this place has. Specifically went as this place was recommended to me as gluten free and vegan friendly. The house made gluten free gnocchi was good but let down by the carbonara sauce which was very bland, hardly any pancetta. My vegan friend had to go with the Napoletana as it is the only vegan sauce topping option and it was also very bland. The portion sizes are very small, usually when going out for pasta its relatively inexpensive and so filling you can't finish however we spent over $50 and left feeling hungry.
Maria Condello
My niece is gluten free, we came especially to try the gluten free gnocchi and WOW they were as soft as pillows! Really top quality. I ordered the fusilli Bolognese and am happy to report is was as delicious as my family's recipe. We'll definitely be coming back next time we need a pasta fix!
Nicolette
Love this place, best home made pasta in Brunswick for sure 👌🏽🍝 I recommend the tagliatelle or rigatoni, loved the Mushroom Maria sauce. Arancini are crunchy on the outside and delicious, and loved the mushroom sauce they sit on. The Italian slaw type salad is so refreshing and goes well with the pasta. The salumi platter is also a must! 👌🏽 such a cute family run place, we need more local restaurants like this in Melbourne. 🍅🇮🇹🌶
Adam Sarfati
One of Melbournes best!

Came with the girlfriend, I had the carbonara and she had the amatriciana. The pasta itself is beautiful and freshly made ( you choose which pasta you want ) plus they offer both Gluten Free and vegan options. My Carbonara was seriously good, I reluctantly gave my better half a taste, only to try her amatriciana and realise it was just as good, maybe better! The grass is always greener right? An immensely enjoyable dinner experience. We will be back again soon to try the rest of the menu!
Wen Wangyujie Vincent
Mild taste, not strong, friendly for people from other countries. Homemade noodle is chewy, recommend. Environment is best for friends gathering and family dinner.
Danielle Bonomo
I was super excited to try this place out after so many friends ranting and raving on about it! It did not disappoint... the pasta was light and not too heavy on the stomach, the sauce was flavoursome - yet not gooey! It was fabulous - we will definitely be back - thanks Mamma!
Maree Widdicombe
Never had a bad meal and you couldn't get better service. It will not disappoint. I'd recommend the calamari for starters and the the mushroom based sauce.
Nicola Tsiambazis
Great food and great service! Ciao Mamma is my favourite place to go for a big bowl of delicious pasta. Their fried calamari and lamb ragu sauce are must haves!
Julie James
The restaurant is great, staffs are all nice and great, the food is good. We order 2 pasta and on started which cost us $70, not of us think it’s not really worth it.
Ange
Came for a catch up with a group of friends tonight. Service was super friendly and polite! Food was bloody delicious and everyone was wrapped! The Nutella mouse was the perfect way to end our night 11/10! Such a homely feel at the restaurant. Will definitely be back with the fam 😁
Pippa Binfield
Nice atmosphere, super friendly staff and genuine Italian family run restaurant. Food was fast and delicious - the gluten free pasta was the best I've ever had! And being a coeliac I had no worries as Coeliac Australia has accredited Ciao Mamma. I bought some takeaway frozen pasta (because it's so good) and as I wasnt heading straight home they wrapped it up with ice and alfoil so it stayed frozen - totally went above and beyond! Will definitely be back! (And the lemon gelato is authentic and tart and delish)
Lauren Pinch
My new favourite Italian. Incredible hand made pasta, brilliant sauce (I had the amatriciana) hubby had the carbonara. What's even more amazing is they have a range of gluten free pastas too!
Suzie Scribbles
Accredited gluten-free, and with fresh pasta made on site daily, Ciao Mamma, off Brunswick’s Sydney Road provides a fresh Italian dining experience of custom pasta dishes.
Chronicles Of Nardia
Ciao Mamma is located on Union Street in Brunswick. It has a spacious interior & outdoor seating to soak up the sunshine. Having a coeliac in their own family, the menu at Ciao Mamma offers gluten free pasta options so that families can dine together with or without gluten. The pasta menu gives you the option to select your choice of pasta & the sauce of your preference.

We started with entrees of polenta fingers & arancini. The arancini arrived crispy & had a lovely strong pumpkin flavour. The polenta fingers were crunchy too & served with a tasty dipping sauce. We found the polenta chips a bit salty however it may have just been a little heavy handed with the added sea salt.

For our mains we tried the Rigatoni Amatriciana and the Tagliatelle Napoletana. Italian food is one of my favourites so we were excited to try the home made pasta dishes. Unfortunately the Napoletana sauce was very bland & served with only a tiny sprinkle of finely ground parmesan. The Amatriciana sauce was also disappointing, not even a hint of chilli flavour & a little bit of finely diced pancetta.

We finished with the Nutella mousse & Tin-a-misu, named after Mamma Tina herself. The Tin-a-misu has a lovely creamy texture & the mascarpone was smooth & rich. The Nutella mousse was light & a rich dessert but a nice end to our meal.

The service at Ciao Mamma was fast & efficient but we felt quite let down by the pasta dishes we’d been looking forward to trying. Thank you for having us in.
James Keagan
This small restaurant is a charming example of a family business done good. it is like sitting in your Nonna's kitchen eating a beautiful handmade meal. I've never been disappointed by the food, it always is a treat. They have a simple and reliable formula - choose the pasta you like and the sauce. They make the pasta daily. The gnocchi is like tiny fluffy pillows that carry the sauce to my my taste-buds. the size of the serves is absolutely perfect.
At busy times it can seem a little loud and squishy but it adds to the charm of this gem just off Sydney road.
Alessia Di Natale
Went with a group of friends and ordered the arancini and Nonna’s chips which were delicious!
Then had the spaghetti carbonara which was just as yummy.
To top it all off, service was impeccable. Can’t fault them!
Will definitely be returning in the near future.
Holly.fandry
Everything was wonderful, but the absolute stand out was the GF donuts. They were so amazing that I questioned if they were gluten free. Too good to be true.
Jess Townsing
Amazing food and waitstaff. Very attentive.
Awesome owners, extremely helpful with dietary needs.
100% recommend dining here for a great and authentic experience.
Burgers Of Melbourne
Dined here last night and this is a venue that should be on everyone's to-do list. I started with the arancini balls which were unbelievable and finished with the Tagliatelle Bolognese which is the best (Spaghetti Bolognese) I have ever had. My previous favourite was in Prague but having such great quality at home, this is a venue that I have already recommended to friends and will continue to recommend for the best pasta in Melbourne.
Food Review Australia
This place makes the most amazing traditional pasta dishes! They make their pasta and sauces fresh every day and the best thing is that they are an accredited Gluten Free restaurant by Coeliac Australia. If you are after a traditional Italian dish, then this is your place.
Elise
Absolutely love this place! The food is homemade, fresh and absolutely delicious. You can clearly tell how much care they take with it! The staff are welcoming and incredibly friendly! It's definitely somewhere you would want to go again and again!
Hungry Caterpillar 🥑
Had this place book marked for awhile as I loved that they had GF pastas but unfortunately the dishes weren’t as nice as we’d hoped. Pasta itself was alright but I think the sauces let them down, they weren’t very tasty and a bit dull with the flavour. We did get one gnocchi Napoletana which I understand hasn’t got a lot of ingredients but I’ve had amazing Napoletana before with lots of flavour still. Staff and service was otherwise lovely.
Dimmy Georgiadis
Many places claim to do Italian correctly but very few deliver. Ciao Mamma definitely delivers. Everything was fresh and tasty and had that home cooked feel to them. All 7 of us were delighted. We will surely be back
Penguineats
Located in trendy Brunswick, Ciao Mamma brings an authentic piece of Italy to the locals, all the while managing to to cater to a variety dietary requirements.
Their freshly made pasta is definitely a must-have, and don’t go get to pair it with a gorgeous Italian red too!
Chad
This place was very pleasant very traditional, the pasta was great but very small servings, I would recommend, just know it’s quality not quantity when comes to ciao mumma also it’s expensive the bushcetta was $12 and it was cluten free bread. Anyway hope it helps the cost aside very good
Foodadventureswithliv
wow ok what can i say?! this place was INCREDIBLE! came here for dinner tonight because i was dying to come!!!

accredited by Coeliac Australia, Ciao Mamma is a coeliac’s Italian heaven! couldn’t help but order as much as we could from the menu because there were so many gluten free options! (my brother helped me eat all this...even though i don’t think i would of had a problem...)

we had arancini balls, caprese/burrata salad, fried calamari, nonna’s chips, polenta chips, fettuccine w/ carbonara sauce, gnocchi w/ pesto sauce, gnocchi w/ carbonara and gnocchi w/ mushroom maria sauce... ALL gluten free!! a winner for me are the arancini balls as they were so light and crispy & the gnocchi were also really light and soft, cooked perfectly! enjoyed every single thing, lots of flavour throughout all the food!

after dinner we just HAD to have coffee and dessert, we had the pannacotta and the nutella mousse.. both so delicious!!!

such an amazing, friendly and beautiful restaurant! well done to Tina and her family for creating such a wonderful place, so much passion and love! The service is 10/10 and really quick! i love feeling safe when i eat out knowing i wont get sick! so do your self a favour and come try! :) :)

Its all about the pasta here, freshly made pasta daily and best thing you get to chose your type. The menu is set out where you start with a snack/entree, you then pick your pasta (from the selection given) the sauce, any extras then you chose desserts. We did just that, a few meals from each section. For entree we chose the delicious arancini, the lightly crumbed calamari served with basil aioli and the ciabatta bread served with oil and balsamic. The bread was delicious, made in house and probably could be sold as loafs to be enjoy at home.

For our mains we had the papadelli with lamb ragu off the specials board, the carbonara with tagliatelle made the traditional Italian way - pancetta, eggs, cream, herbs. What more can you ask for. My favourite pasta dish was the mushroom Maria with big spiral pasta, i loved the creamy sauce.

For desserts we shared the mousse and tiramisu.

Worth a visit if you love Italian food, pasta, you miss your grandmothers cooking or you have never tried wholesome homemade pasta dishes. This place could be your family restuarant.

Had such a lovely experience at Ciao Mamma on Saturday night. The service was great and we left the restaurant feeling very full. The menu is simple however still found it hard to decide what to eat with the variety of options for coeliacs that aren't available at other restaurants. Would recommend the lamb ragu and definitely coming back to try more of the menu.

Had to make a word to describe this plate of pasta. FANTASMIC! Perfectly cooked, fun and flavourful great portion sizes. Most of all, run by great people. Would come here again for those authentically vibrant Italian feels.
