Review Cafe Henkel - Brunswick

Once we found out Cafe Henkel was reopening for dine in meals we made a booking for Saturday morning brunch. The food was delicious, great quality and generous serving. Staff are friendly and everything is 100 % Gluten Free. I had the chicken parma and chips. We will be back....

This was my second visit to Cafe Henkel, so I’ve upgraded my rating and added to my original review... Lovely room, good setup, and roomy. Friendly staff too. This visit I had a cheeseburger (loved it!) which was served with their yummy chips, followed by the lactose free New York cheesecake (OMG!)... Last visit (Feb 2019) I had a Tumeric latte, which was quite nice, and the Chicken Parmigiana (dairy free option). The chicken was unfortunately a little dry. I’m not sure what the sauce on the top was but it tasted like it was just tomato paste and not an actual sauce...It was also served with their chips (of which none were left)! My non GF friend had some eggs this visit (cleaned her plate right up!), while previously others had a burger and gnocchi (which was a big serving!) which they said were quite good. The bun didn’t crumble so that’s a huge bonus! They all left nothing on their plates, so I’m guessing that’s a testament to that... Thanks for making my cafe experience easy with all the GF options!

Quiet little cafe, with excellent food and very friendly service. Lots of options that satisfied the coeliac and non coeliac, plus our child. I liked that there were ample non egg based dishes, so the menu felt more like a restaurant than a typical Melbourne cafe. Plus, they offer sparkling water :D Will definitely be returning

Fully gluten free cafe, accredited by Coeliac Australia, which also has a sit down restaurant area. My partner is a coeliac and enjoys being able to eat everything on the menu, and it's tasty for a non-coeliac too.

We held a 70th birthday function at Cafe Henkel in Brunswick last Sunday. It is a stunning venue, the food is five star and the staff are excellent. We had an amazing day and Jenny Maria and all their staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was all gluten free and sensational and being gluten free myself it was fantastic to not have to worry about cross contamination. I recommend this venue to everyone whether it’s a celebration you want to have or for brunch on the weekend. It is well worth a visit.

Great in house made pie and relish, coffee was great, staff super friendly and they have a surprisingly large, modern well kept bathroom available for customers. The pie was admittedly expensive at $9 but worth it in my opinion if you can't eat gluten. I personally would have preferred a normal gluten based pastry pie but I wasn't paying much attention when I ordered so ahh well. It was tasty enough but nothing beats real pie crust. The internal meat part of the pie leaves nothing to complain about . The chick serving me was friendly, helpful and polite despite it being her first day. They have an a'lacart menu aparantly but I didn't bother looking at it as I was there 20 mins before close and I'm not an a**h***! ✌️😅✌️

Pancake stack with Apple, Rhubarb and butterscotch sauce was amazing. Dad the coeliac was spoilt for choice and couldn't make his mind up. He decided to go with the chips and loved them before finishing my pancakes :) The coffee is also brilliant and would make any coffee aficionado happy. Great service and great product, will definitely be returning!

We had our baby shower at Cafe Henkel as my husband is coeliac, and the reassurance of no cross contamination was highly important to us. Jenny and her team pulled off our vision perfectly. The food was delicious, and guests didn’t realise it was all gluten free until told. Jenny was also amazing at catering for a few guests who are lactose intolerant too. We’ve been in for brunch and the pancakes are delicious, would highly recommend! And we’ll be back with our little one in future! Thank you Jenny and your team!

Whilst I had read amazing reviews about Cafe Henkel, and was so excited as a coeliac to be dining at a purely gluten free restaurant; I was very disappointed with my dining experience. Not only was the service from staff poor and extremely slow (even though there were barely any other patrons in the restaurant), the coffee was below average (which we waited far too long for, even after being advised by staff twice that it "would not be long"), and my partners chicken burger was dry and gristly. Not to mention that certain menu items were made unavailable to guests as they were afraid of staining the carpet (which was strange that we were in a function room rather than the cafe itself, even though it wasn't at all busy). The entire restaurant gave off a strange vibe and was located in a not so easily accessible location. To say my whole experience with Cafe Henkel was mediocre would be an overstatement. Unfortunately I do not think I will be returning. Would not recommend.

Wow, amazing gluten free cafe hidden away, fantastic food and staff go above and beyond.. So nice to have somewhere that's 100% gluten free. If I didn't live 2 hours away I would probably be there every day ;)

The most amazing place with beautiful. People not to have to worry about. Cross contamination. And people thinking I'm weird lol it is the best food I have ever tasted and well worth 5000km I travel to come here

Just visited Cafe Henkel for the first time. Absolutely loved it. The place looks amazing! The food tastes great and could not believe how many different gluten free varieties they had to offer. The portions were big and even though I've had terrible appetite for the last week I had to come in and at least sample their breakfast menue. Had no room for dessert today but next time I'm starting with dessert first.

Ate with my partner today at Cafe Henkel for the first time as it’s a little out of the way from us and oh.. my.. god.. the food was delicious!!<br/><br/>We had a schnitzel ciabatta roll, fries and eggs Benedict to share. The ciabatta roll and the English muffin were amazing. They did not fall apart or crumble like you’d normally see and were fluffy and soft not firm and dense! <br/><br/>The eggs were poached perfectly and the hollandaise sauce was the perfect balance of flavours. My non-coeliac partner usually avoids hollandaise because so many places get it so wrong (too much of a mayonnaise flavour) but he absolutely loved it.<br/><br/>We love trialing gluten free brunches and have done so all over the suburbs, CBD and coast and my partner and I both agreed it was one of the best (if not the best) gluten free meals we’ve had. <br/><br/>Second to that, the lovely lady who served us and had a chat to us was the epitome of great customer service.<br/><br/>Highly recommend going out of your way if you’re not local to have a bite to eat here!!

Friendly service and great 100% gluten free food. We had a lovely brunch here to celebrate a friends birthday. You wouldn’t know that it was all gluten free and it was great to be able to pick anything on the menu!

This is my absolute favourite place to visit when I go to Melbourne. The food is excellent, Jenny and the staff have always been helpful and friendly and I cannot explain how wonderful it is to go to a place and not have to triple check the food is gluten free. The staff are knowledgable and understand gluten free and how tough it can be to feel safe eating out somewhere. The food is delicious and good value for money. Prices are decent and the meals are large. I ordered french toast and my non coeliac partner had the big breakfast and we were both delightfully full afterwards. My partner even commented on how nice the gf bread was. Last time I was in Melbourne I visited twice (in two days) and will definitely be back again next visit.

Cafe Henkel is heaven sent for a recent diagnosed Coeliac like myself. I ordered with confidence that anything i pick will be ‘safe’ for me. Overall the food tasted amazing! Even my husband said that the gluten free burger he got tasted better than other non gluten free burgers he had in the past! Loved it and will definitely recommend.

Dining at cafe henkel was the most pleasant experience we have had since my son was diagnosed as coeliac a year ago. My family also said the food was incredible and top notch and they are not gluten free eaters. On top of that, the staff were just so lovely and accommodating. We will visit every time we are in Melbourne. Thank you!

The staff were lovely and very welcoming. On the weekends they open up into Victoria Functions next door so the dining room is much bigger and stunning. The food was incredible, I ordered the French Toast and it was absolutely magical,presentation was superb and I almost didn't want to eat it. My partner and our friend ordered the Cuban Benedict and they were equally as delighted. We will be back with more people! Thank you Cafe Henkel for starting our day with happiness!

Went here for breakfast, coffee was good & came out quickly. <br/>I ordered the mashed avo & a side of bacon which looked nice but wasn’t great. Unfortunately the side of bacon was forgotten about & by the time it came out my meal was cold. <br/>Not sure why this is so highly rated, had a lot better for a lot less.<br/>Would I go back or recommend to others? Probably not.

So my husband and I were looking for somewhere for Brunch. We came across this place on eat club. It was a little out of the way but it did not disappoint. We ordered the French toast and the Parma. Wow it was amazing. The coffee is also great and the service was beyond Amazing. After all this we then found out the whole menu was sieliac and glutten free. Wow we couldn't even tell. We will defiantly go out of our way again for another amazing breakfast or lunch.

I came here for brunch on a Tuesday. In a quiet hidden spot of Brunswick, staff were friendly.<br/>I ordered a Chai latte & French Toast.<br/>The meal was delicious, loved the banana and chocolate maacarpone!<br/>Unfortunately I forgot to first ask about the chai before ordering, as I was served powdered chai instead of real sticky leaf chai tea.

Myself and my girlfriend travelled all the way from Newcastle to Melbourne for food as she’s coeliac and has little to no eating out options near home. Cafe Henkel was our first stop when we arrived and they did not disappoint! During our holiday we kept coming back to try more of their diverse range of options, extremely friendly staff and the best tasting gluten free food we’ve ever had. I’ve never seen my girlfriend so excited over a menu and it was her best eating out experience she’d had in the entire 7 years of her having coeliac. Even not as a coeliac myself the food was still amazing and you can tell there’s a lot of thought and hard work put into it. We can’t wait to come back and have already organised to go back one weekend in August. Thank you Cafe Henkel, and see you again soon!

This cafe is a hidden gem, located in an industrial area in Brunswick. It can also be used as a function venue!! It has an extensive menu that is 100% gluten free!! They also cater really well to other allergies or intolerances as well. Our family shared pancakes, French toast and porridge which were all cooked to perfection and incredibly tasty. I would highly recommend this place to anyone whether they are Coeliac or not!!

Coeliac from Perth, my missus found the cafe on instagram searching the hashtag GF food. I ordered the parma (or is it par-mi?) and the serving size was so ginormous I could not finish it. That is a feat for me - I strive to finish every meal as I hate wasting food. It was freakin delicious. The owner, whose service was lovely, offered to package it up for the take home. This was not really an option as we were off to the MCG to watch the Dorkers pip Collingwood in a thriller. We opted to buy sweet treats instead - we got a custard tart and sticky date pudding. Perfect. 100% we will return unless some form of divine intervention stops us. Or the bank decides it is not feasible to fly over to Melbourne for some chippies. With that, my only criticism is that this Cafe is not in Perth. Also my other ragret is that I forgot to take a photo of the meals we ate so I can re-live the experience in my heart and tastebuds. Fat, fluffy, delicious French toast! Best I’ve had. Almond milk coffee pretty good too. Will def be back. Amazing selection of GF take aways including pies, rolls, cakes and cookies.

Just had a fantastic brunch here. The place is so beautifully decked out and the food is delicious! Staff were lovely and very accommodating. I think everything is gluten free, so lots of options. I had the vegetarian breakfast, chai latte and we shared pancakes (which were amazing!!!) Will definitely be back here!

Took the family to cafe Henkel for a birthday breakfast. The food was delicious and service was outstanding Jenny really looked after us & the kids-we felt very welcome. The weekend dining area is more formal than we are used to but we didn’t feel our laid back morning was hampered by this. Thanks for having us we’ll be back!

This place is absolutely amazing. My husband is coeliac, and it's hard to find places to dine at. For him, to be able to sit down and enjoy an entire, incredibly tasty menu that is completely safe, is such an amazing feeling. The service is also so good and the place is beautiful. Worth the visit!

What a gem!  Totally gluten free eatery with fab food.  My 15yo daughter has Coeliac Disease and can usually order maybe 1 or 2 items on a menu but never anything she likes, she was overjoyed.  If anything she at too much being spoiled for choice.  Cafe Henkel was recommended to me by someone who is not gluten free and had enjoyed a previous visit. and wanted to take us  The burgers looked like something out of a movie they were so well put together and tasted amazing.  All day breakfast, and pancakes yay!!  Dads enjoyed the gluten free beer too.  The decor is beautiful with high ceilings and amazing chandeliers and mirrors.  The owner is a lovely lady and staff very friendly.  There is also a cafe next door with yummy baked goods to take home.  My daughter took the chicken sausage roll to school for lunch, she loved it with the great homemade sauce.  Highly recommend please visit.

I had a morning hot chocolate in house and took some goodies home. The hot chocolate was delicious not sickly sweet but flavoursome and made very well. I grabbed a ham, cheese, tomato toastie to take home. The bread was so good I kept thinking it was gluten bread. By far the best gluten free bread I have had 5months into Ceoliac diet. Also bought a panna cotta for my sister (she's not Ceoliac but loved it nevertheless), a passionfruit tart, friand and orange cake.. shared it between myself and a fellow friend Ceoliac and we both really loved the goodies (the tart is devine). Highly recommend for everyone, it's a hidden gem that deserves lots of customers. Friendly staff. Best decision to drive over and I will definitely be back. Worth mentioning the prices are great considering how expensive Gluten free can be, I spent $34 on a hot chocolate, hct toastie and 4 desserts.

Excellent service and delicious food- the pumpkin and ricotta mash is to die for, the coffee was great and the carrot cake was moist with a yummy cream cheese icing. We will definitely visit again.

Fellow coeliacs, you need to go here! We recently stayed in Brunswick for a holiday and was lucky to find this cafe within walking distance from our hotel! The food was absolutely amazing and the staff were lovely. All anxiety of eating out was taken away as the cafe is 100% gluten free and the menu has so much variety. My parter who is not a coeliac absolutely loved the food as well! We are looking forward to coming back!

My husband and I visited this cafe in Brunswick and found the food was delicious. The gnocchi was the best I have tasted and the Eggs Royale with smoked salmon got the thumbs up from my partner. Decor was great and the service excellent. It wasn’t till we left that we found out that it was certified gluten free food. Will dine there again.<br/>

Excellent quality food and outstanding service - as a coeliac I was excited to have the entire menu to choose from, but it was the fact my non-Coeliac friends enjoyed the GF meals too that impressed me the most. Will be back.

We are from Bendigo and we visit Cafe Henkel often when we are in Melbourne. The food is always lovely. The service is always friendly and very welcoming. There is heaps of parking available.<br/>My sister and I have coeliacs and love that we can eat everything in store. My husband who has no food allergies just enjoys the fabulous food.

So appreciative that there are great food places like Cafe Henkel, that are gluten free and Coeliac safe!<br/>We ate lunch here and enjoyed the crispy chicken burgers with slaw and fries. They were super accommodating of my kids’ fussy eating requirements too.<br/>Lovely venue that is very comfortable and clean.

So happy to find a place that says it's gluten free and it actually is. Partner had the pancakes which were awesome and the Turkish bread with bacon eggs rocket and relish. 100% will be back and with other gluten intolerant friends in tow! Service was quick and lovely too.

This hidden gem is absolutely amazing! We had lunch today, the side function room was really appealing and well organised. The staff were very professional and efficient with orders and making sure customers were taken care of. The menu had a great selection, we had the gnocchi and chicken Parma, both fresh and delicious! Fast service from ordering to food being presented! It was affordable. It’s appealing also they are going into catering events.

I have visited twice and have been delighted by the variety of the menu and service. I know of no other cafe where the menu is 100% gluten free with every effort taken to accomodate dietary needs with true professionalism. The service is perfect and incredibly helpful. I had forgotten how relaxing it is to dine out since being gluten free but this is possible here. Highly recommend a visit.

Amazing food! felt so good to go somewhere and not have to worry about cross contamination or the food not actually being gluten free. The pancakes taste like normal ones and the butterscotch sauce is unbelievable. Would 100% recommend eating here!

Had an amazing brunch here with my friend this morning. The staff are friendly, and the food is delicious! So happy that this is Coeliac Australia accredited, it gave me the piece of mind that none of my food would have gluten in it. The room was also beautiful and bathrooms were modern and clean. Definitely recommend, especially for coeliacs!!

I’d heard about an amazing, new Cafe in Brunswick, which served only Gluten free food. As we have a number of family members with food intolerances I decided to try this place for a family birthday party.<br/><br/>Jenny, the Cafe Manager, was simply amazing! She helped me to plan food that covered all our dietary requirements. Gluten, Lactose, Fructose intolerances, low Fodmap diet and a vegetarian were no problem what so ever.<br/><br/>The food, service, function room and friendly staff who couldn’t do enough to ensure the celebration was just amazing made this lunch a day to remember.<br/><br/>Everyone enjoyed the meal - even those with no food intolerances. The food was amazing and well presented. And all for a very reasonable price.<br/><br/>If you are celebrating a birthday- ensure you ask Jenny to cook you a cake. You will not be disappointed! <br/><br/>It’s definitely worth the search for this hidden gem. Parking is also available which is a bonus when eating out in Brunswick!

My go-to place for a lovely and amazing brekkie or lunch. Cafè Henkel is one of my local favourites not just because of their amazing and safe (coeliac association accredited) gluten-free food, but because of their excellent and impeccably mannered staff! (Thank you very much Jenny!) <br/><br/>Any coeliac would be hard pressed to resist going in, and leaving with a full tummy and some goodies for home. This is one of the few, rare gems where a coeliac can enter and ‘feel normal’ again due to its 100% gluten-free environment. <br/><br/>Food is amazing and held to a delicious standard: from yummy sandwiches and salads to gnocchi and chicken schnitzels with a side of hot chips. Desserts include wonderful cheesecakes, Black Forest cakes, strawberries and cream cakes, pancakes and chocolate tarts- just to name a few. <br/><br/>This place also hosts event functions and does catering, which is a super big plus for us in the Coeliac community! <br/><br/>I’ve honestly lost count on how many times I’ve visited, but I don’t really plan on stopping anytime soon.

I come here regularly. I always leave happy. The food is wonderful with an evolving menu. The service is friendly and helpful. The coffee is one of the best in Melbourne. It's my fav place!

Friends showed me this little jewel in an industrial area. Private function room in Brunswick but feels like you’re in Toorak. Tried three of the mains and two desserts, all were top notch but my chicken schnitzel was the best I’ve had. It was a full chicken fillet, not sliced in half as it usually is. Sticky date pudding with ice cream was great, pancakes were perfect. Friendly service. Very surprising as everything was gluten free and house made. Will definitely recommend.

The staff are super friendly, the food is tasty and hearty, and it's the one place my coeliac wife can confidently order anything. They adjusted a menu item around my lactose intolerance, too.

A charming little cafe full of tasty gluten free delights ! Nice ambience, friendly staff and the menu options were truly mouth-watering. I thoroughly enjoyed the french toast, with thick slices covered generously with lush mixed berry compote. And to top it off, the chocolate smoothie was out of this world, chock full of flavour and really a meal in itself. And if that was not enough, the gluten free desserts on offer looked amazing (the flourless orange cake to die for, amongst others). Definitely worth a visit !

Loved the fact that the cafe is 100% gluten free and caters for other dietary requirements! The Turkish bread with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs was really nice, and the smoked salmon was top notch. However, would've been nice for the Turkish bread to be toasted to give the meal more texture. As for the French toast with mixed berry compote, it was not sweet as the ice-cream balanced it out and the toast was nice, soft and fluffy! The pink latte with coconut milk was something new I had tried. I had enjoyed it and would definitely order it again. Thank you for your friendly service and will be back again.

Had a wonderful brunch at Cafe Henkel with my partner who is coeliac. The staff were very prompt and accommodating to any questions about Low Fodmap options. While the views from the cafe were not glorious, the atmosphere in the cafe was lovely. Love the attention to detail and bread starter. Great pricing for an allergy friendly cafe.

As a coeliac, it felt like heaven to walk in and be told that there is no gluten on site and that I could eat anything I wanted off the menu ❤️ I had a turkey burger, my friend had a veggie burger and my son had the hot chips. It was all absolutely delicious and my friend who has no issue with gluten thought the food was superb too! The staff were super friendly and accomodating for my 4 year old son and my friend's baby. Will definitely go back next time I'm in Melbourne!

Cute little café, tucked away in the backstreets of Brunswick. Specialising in gluten-free and allergy-friendly food, it's a heaven for those on restrictive diets. Coffee was good, the staff where friendly and attentive, and everything was gleamingly clean. The menu is very on-trend; the 'pink latte' (made with beetroot & honey) was interesting but not to my taste. Recommended, especially for those with any dietary requirements.

Very delicious food at the cafe that truly cares about their customers allergies by making a wide variety range where you can eat food that doesn't contain gluten, soy, dairy etc. Very friendly staff. I recommend you all get the big breakfast and try one of their delicious dairy free smoothies! Definitely am a regular customer.

I have been to Cafe Henkel a lot since they opened a few weeks ago and everything I have tried so far has been delicious. The food always looks really fresh and you can tell they use high quality ingredients in all their food. The service is also terrific. The manager there, Jenny, is very friendly and is happy to answer any questions you have about their 100% gluten free menu.<br/><br/>My favorite dishes at the moment are the turkey burger and the frittata. The smoothies are also great and very filling. Try and leave room for dessert though, as their sweets are amazing and their range is always changing. I honestly have never had gluten free cakes like this before. I usually get a few extra slices to take away with me when I go.<br/><br/>It's probably best to make a booking before you arrive, as their seating area is fairly limited. This is only temporary though, as they are opening another space next door. It's so nice to have an allergy friendly place that serves food of such high quality. I can't wait to go back.

There is a new 100% gluten free cafe on the scene and it is causing a stir within the community. Cafe Henkel has only been open for around two weeks and already I have seen many of you visiting. Located at 102 Henkel Street, Brunswick the cafe is nestled away but serves up some beautiful food. I am really excited because it’s only a 15 minute drive from my work, I’m anticipating some delicious lunch takeaway.
