Review Mai Thai - Brunswick

Richard Patterson
I'm reluctant to leave negative reviews, but this felt like a real letdown. The curry puffs are clearly filled with frozen mixed veggies, and I couldn't taste a trace of curry flavour. The Thai Goreng I could swear was packaged Indomie mi goreng noodles with some, to be fair, fresh vegetables added - seriously though? I know the last few years have been rough on hospo, but this is dissapointing.

UPDATE: the owner reached out to sincerely apologize and make things right. I really appreciated the gesture and was happy with the resolution. The crab fried rice has been taken off the menu. This was fast, amazing customer service and I have changed the score to reflect that and how the food has otherwise been. Thanks Mai Thai. We've had a couple of decent meals from this place, but won't be ordering again after tonight. I had the crab special fried rice, which was just inedible. It reeked of fishiness and the whole dish was gritty like it had sand in it. Only a few tiny pieces of bland crab with bits of inedible shell still attached. The rice was bland and mushy. I had to throw it out because we couldn't stand the smell in the apartment. I know restaurants are under a lot of pressure right now but that's honestly the worst thing I've ever been served, no exaggeration. I love crab fried rice and had it many times the last time I visited Thailand. The other parts of the meal were pretty average. The chicken was way overcooked on both our stir fry dishes (pad Thai and chicken cashew). The food was also over an hour late, but the delivery person was very apologetic and we appreciated they were very busy.

Heard about this restaurant and I got the chance to enjoy their food yesterday. Awesome ambiance and friendly staff. Delicious food at affordable price. Best place for authentic Thai food. Spotless clean toilet. One of the best restaurants in Brunswick šŸ‘

Great food, friendly service, lovely atmosphere - always forget to take photos of the food!

Amazing place for dinner with family and friends. The food was great; however, the service was even better. The friendly staff always had a smile on their face and could not do enough for you. I will definitely be returning whenever I am in the neighborhood for another fantastic experience.

I heard good reviews about Mai Thai and I had the privilege of having an amazing dinner with entree and main meals. I am glad that I was able to come and enjoy the amazing food with heart warming service from Dan & Co. I would recommend any one to taste and see the goodness for yourselves so that you may go to the next level in enjoying the taste and service. šŸ„Š

Such a genuine, uplifting service that went the extra mile. I will recommend this place to anyone wanting to have a full dinning experience. We went here for valentine's day and was blown away by the ability of the whole team to make sure our night was exceptional!

We had the set menu. It was a Authentic Thai culinary adventure and everyone in our group complimented the food and service. For my small tummy, the serves are big but others wouldn't comment on that :-)

Food very tasty and staff are friendly . We go there often and enjoy the food.

Great food, friendly service, will definitely be back soon.

Fabulous restaurant great music awesome food staff very pleasant

Mai Thai was our absolute go to, until last night. Thanks for the horrific food poisoning from your dodgy prawn stirfry! And yes, only my son and myself violently ill as no one else ate that dish.

Best Pad Thai hands down. Tom yum soup is good too.

Nice food and friendly staff, love to see you guys soon

Okay, This is 100% honest review. If you think you want to give this resturant a try, think again. I've been a regular customer at Mai Thai since 5 years ago and most of the time they must be something with the food I ordered. Also, I'm Thai so I know what I'm talking about and what I expect to get when paying over $14+ for a proper meal. Today I've order Rad Na Beef (Fried rice noodle beef) and what I've receive is a Noodle with no meat and tons of veggies and that's not it. In the noodle there is another type of noodle in it. It's like they cook me with leftover stuff for $14.50. Really? In real Rad Na you don't get all these different type of veggies at all! They're not suppose to be in the soup. This is not the first time and it doesn't happened every time but it often did. One time I ordered Pad kra pao Chicken (Thai basil and chicken) and what I got was leftover mix of veggies and some chicken, believe me nothing taste or look like the original Pad kra pao at all (They used to cook pad kra pao better than this but some how this is what I got these day when ordering food from Mai Thai). Ordering from this place is random, you might get what you desire or you might be disappointing like I do. Do not recommended this restaurant, find some where else. The price is expensive and the food is crap.

Came here on a rainy night and it was a nice and cosy Thai restaurant.<br/><br/>There was quite a good range on the menu and we ordered a few curries, stir fried dishes and the fish was good. The food is quite authentic and the flavours were really good. They do quite many take aways here and is popular amongst the locals around the area. The owners and staff are really friendly.<br/><br/>Would definitely be back again

Mai Thai is a regular weekly delivery for us. Always worth it and now donā€™t even need to repeat our order; they just know who we are and what we want.

Dont normally write reviews but, what started out as a promising evening became quite disappointing. We were greeted by friendy staff and made our order soon after. Our entrƩes were the first to come out and soon after the mains followed. As soon as we started with our pad thai we noticed a long strand if hair. We notified the waitress and asked for it to be replaced, which she did immediately. After less then 5 minutes she walks out with a plate of pad thai which was warm at best. They could have at least pretened to make a new one and heated it up. Needless to say we did not eat the pad thai as it was probably the same one just replated.

Love this place! Fast and friendly service, and delicious food with beautiful presentation šŸ˜ my favourite is the pad kee mao and tom yum soup!

A friend just moved into this neighbourhood so we thought weā€™d give the local Thai place a try. It was a little too quiet for a Friday night as all the next doors were rather packed. The pendang curry was mild and little lukewarm. The duck flat noodles were not too bad. Highlights: the restaurant was quiet so we got served quickly. The alcohol was cheap! Lowlights: very awkward service.

We have been going to this restaurant for several years with always amazing food delivered fast. Unfortunately tonight we were very disappointed. We ordered our usual takeaway which was very delivered fast. The food was not even close to its usual quality. We ordered prawn mee goreng which was tasteless. Hard noodles and woody prawns. Very unappetising. I hope this is just a bad night as we love this place.<br/>We will go one more time and hopefully they will change the chef...

A casual spot with an almost homely feel to enjoy some tasty Thai dishes with fast service. Within minutes of placing the order the cook(?) with a hairnet and gloves brought out level of tenderness and flavour. <br/><br/>The duck curry was so delicious and deeply satisfying. Slices of duck were beautifully cooked to the right level of tenderness and flavour. The seafood curry was creamy and tasty with generous amounts of seafood. Paired with fragrant coconut rice, this was a scrumptious and filling meal. <br/><br/>There was only one other table when we arrived. The place and menus look like they haven't changed for a couple of decades. Tasty food, polite and efficient service ensure we'll return when we just want a simple, good value meal out.

Mai Thai Brunswick East Vic fantastic restaurant the cook is fabulous and the service is great they<br/>cater something for everyone. Keep up the fabulous job you are doing.

the food is not very good especially the desserts. the only thing that was redeemable was the vanilla ice cream. I always like thai food but this one iā€™ll never coming back or order again

We ordered the food through menulog for a nice night in for our anniversary. We looked on Zomato and compared all the Thai places on menulog. This one had the highest rating. And I have to say I am sooo disappointed. I donā€™t even know how people like the food that comes from here. Iā€™m not harsh, I am not nit picking, I let things go a lot of the time but there is noooooo way I could ignore this.<br/><br/>Every single dish was disgusting. Iā€™ve had Thai in so many different places and even the chain restaurants are x100 times better and Iā€™m not exaggerating.<br/><br/>Jasmine rice: u canā€™t get this wrong you would think.. but this place got it wrong. It was dry and grainy<br/><br/>Coconut rice: blob of coconut on jasmine rice makes it coconut rice? Even though coconut milk was used rice was super dry<br/><br/>Green curry: smelt horrible. Bamboo over powers dish<br/><br/>Papaya salad: boring vegetables used, plain, garlic shells were left in but no actual garlic seen, minimal amount of tomatoes, disgusting<br/><br/>Other dish forgot the name of(it was steamed fish): off kind of flavour<br/><br/>This whole experience was disappointing. I want menulog to come and tell me the driver got us the wrong order because it was so crap. I didnā€™t expect this type of food from a place like this. If I could give you -4 stars I would so people would never buy anything off you guys again. <br/><br/>WORST. Thai. Place. Ever
Savvas Ladas
Ordered through menulog and received 3 dishes and 2 different types of rice. All terrible. Ive had thai food in a food court before be better than this. Im so dissappointed. I dont know how you can get green curry so wrong. I wish i could get a refund for this meal. It is disgusting. Im not sure if menulog sent us the right thai food from the right place because zomato has good reviews. Utterly disappointed and will be telling everyone i know never to buy from me. This is the first time ive ever written any review especially a bad review.

After a long day of moving house, we decided to find the closest restaurant and just sit down. We entered Mai Thai on a quiet Monday night, with only the three of us and two other tables, otherwise empty. <br/>We ordered beef Pad Thai, chicken Green Curry, a dish of stir fry vegetables with tofu (forgot the name) and roti bread served with satay sauce. <br/>The food came promptly, served by friendly waitresses and staffs. <br/>The was nothing wrong with the food, but I was rather surprised at the "blandness" of the food, considering the 4 stars rating on Zomato. The roti was a bit tasteless and the satay sauce was too sweet and I wouldn't call that satay. <br/>The beef was overcooked and carrots undercooked in the Pad Thai, the flavours weren't rich either. In fact, a lot of vegetables such as carrots, beans etc were too hard (undercooked). The curry was ok but the chicken was tough. <br/>Overall we found that there was no "wow" factors or "surprise" in any of the dishes. The food wasn't amazing and it was a bit of a let down. Most of the food was tough and hard to chew (either undercooked or overcooked). There wasn't a real balance in the dishes served. <br/>I don't think I will go back again, and if you are looking for an authentic Thai experience, this isn't the place.
Federica
Really nice Thai restaurant, great food at affordable prices. I had noodles with BBQ duck, really delicoise. As dessert I suggest curd custard with vanilla ice cream, yummi<br/>
Tanya Yadav
I love this Thai restaurant. They have some really authentic Thai green and red curries that are worth trying. We ordered some takeaway for dinner- Tofu Green Curry and Chicken Pad Thai noodles. Green curry was delicious and the serving portion was sufficient for two. The spice level was on point. Service is excellent and staff is friendly.
SMB011
Not worth your money. The food was bland and boring therefore incredibly over priced. There's a lot of other really good Thai places in Brunswick that beat Mai Tai, both in price AND flavour.
Leena
Mai Thai<br/>Beautiful tasty fried noodles and typical mild green curry (spicy green curry). Flavourless chicken satay was mild:) <br/>Ordered delicious looking Roti and my boy finished quickly.<br/>Coconut rice was covered with coconut cream on rice. <br/>Customer service was too efficient in half empty floor. It's very annoying to be asked to take dishes away when I'm still eating medium pace & food is left on dishes. Persistantly, waiter asked to order dessert 3 times because I took dessert menu prior to order dinner. Rich coconut cream rice surely filled me up and didn't have any room left.<br/>Go for the noodles but I wouldn't recommend artificial syrup taste pineapple juice or weird taste cocktails.

I've lived in Thailand so I've tasted many kinds of Thai food. The dishes they served us were westernized. <br/><br/>Pad krapow - basil stir fry was marred by the presence of red and green peppers and cucumber. The peppers mask the already weak basil flavour of the dish. <br/><br/>Gaeng keaw wan - green curry was too thin and lacked spice. It's also missing the squash-looking fruit and zucchini that's often found in the dish. Beef was way over cooked. Again they westernized it with cauliflower and cucumber<br/><br/>Tom yum- saviour of the night. This was the best dish we had. <br/><br/>Pad see ew- stir fried kway teow was too sweet. Not surprised by the cauliflowers and broccoli this time. Could do with more garlic<br/><br/>Overall the dishes were subpar when compared with authentic Thai food so if you're craving proper Thai food, I'd advise you to steer clear. However if you just want some stir fry and rice, go for it. It's just not Thai. I can't fault their service either
Tanya Strahan
Ordered Take Away and maybe the A team was not on tonight, but this was possibly the most disappointing Thai experience.<br/><br/>To start with the serves were very stingy.<br/><br/>The Beef Massaman was only 2/3 full in the container and consisted of only 4 chunks of meat, and 2 smaller bits that had broken off, 3 potato chunks and couple of strips of onion... and unfortunately very little flavour or spice - I could have cooked something more flavoursome myself using a jar from coles.<br/><br/>The Papaya salad was only 1/2 full in the container and obviously not fresh at all, limp, no crunch and way too much fish sauce which covered the other flavours.<br/><br/>Even our container of rice wasn't full... will not be going back.
Jemima
This place is so lovely. Good food and attentive service. The roti is my absolute favourite. The staff are wonderful. We now come here often and love it every time.
Evangelina
For a Thai cuisine this restaurant has to be the nicest. The food is so light and delicious. Lovely workers that greet you and serve your food quick.

Really good and amazing taste

Amazing Green Curry!. This place deserves the accolades. The green curry is absolutely out of this world! <br/>The owner is a delight too, such an accommodating, friendly man. We return again and again because its so fresh and delicious, such a pleasant cheap eat experience.

Mai Mai Mai, I love this place. The waiter is fantastic, polite and serves a side of old charm with each order.<br/>Green curry and Red curry are fantastic.<br/>No corkage charge and food served quiet quick.
Samboss
Check this place out!. This restaurant is well worth a visit. The food is fantastic, very reasonably priced and a wide range of meals on the menu. Just bare in mind the service is typical of most Thai restaurants, lacking, I think is the word. Also their listed phone number isn't working due to NBN issues so I got this mobile number off their Facebook page. 0466 900 742

Services was great food was great! Went here on a Friday night surprised it wasnt full which is nice for lygon at. Will definitely be back

This little Thai place is a gem. Trust me. I don't say this often about places. Have struggled to find a good Thai in Brunswick. I recommend this place for those who like me think Thaila Thai is total crap. I have ordered mostly vegetarian from the menu, but the green curry and penang curry are stand out dishes. Lots of seasonal veg (not cooked to within an inch of their lives either) and yummy tofu. For those meat eaters, I'm sure these curries are just as good. This place deserves more credit. Second to Jinda Thai (and that's saying something!!!).
Rod
Just ok. Pad thai was nothing special and the Green Curry was not the slightest bit hot. Small servings as well, even after sharing an entree I could have easily had 2 mains and I wouldn't consider myself a big eater.
Francis Rob D'Emden
There are now many good and reasonably priced Thai restaurants in the Fitzroy, East Brunswick Northcote area but unfortunately Mai Thai is not one of them. The Fish Thai Herb has small dry fish fillet pieces with a salad without dressing and too much toasted coconut. Other dishes were also heavy handed and tending to over cooked.
Pitoon Ratanajantra
The best Thai food in Brunswick east. Pad kee mao duck and Massaman curry beef. Yum yummy!!!
Briand
Our Go-To Favourite!. Love this place. We go there often, mostly to eat in. The service is consistently friendly and quick - great staff. The prices are most reasonable and I've never been disapponted by anything I've had here. We especially love the Duck Curry and the Minced Beef salad are tantalising. I genuinely recommend this place.
E.M Dining Co.
Mai Thai is an honest, consistent restaurant that never fails to please. Always tasty, the Tom Yum is consistently delicious and traditional, the curries, whilst they can be hotter (chili) are always bang-on with flavour. <br/>One word that sums up this place if you feel like Thai: Dependable.
Hayleyhajnady
Delicious food we tried the Chicken Pad Thai, Beef Massaman and vegetables in lemongrass sauce. All tasty and fragrant however portions were small.
Jaffas98
My terrible Thai meal. Just popped into Mai Thai for the first time.... And we won't be going back. I've had a lot of Thai fish cakes in my time, but none as rubbery as this. Prawn dumplings that were thick & gloopy. But then came the main dish: crispy fried fish with special chilli sauce. Seriously, the worst fish we've had in a restaurant. Fatty, slightly wet & slimey.... Crispy? No. Covered in bad, gluggy sauce to cover the poor quality, I'm assuming. I've never left a whole dish before, but we did - and not a word from the staff (all lovely young students, I'm sure, but terrible at interacting with customers). I'm annoyed at the waste of money, and food. Oh well, plenty more fantastic Brunswick eating to enjoy.
Watto
Nice service but a real let down.. No prices for seafood options in menu and then charged over market rates for portions at entree size. Flavours ok but nothing special.. If you looking for good Thai at a realistic price and fair portion sizes look elsewhere..
Tim Luc'
Great place. Really good Thai food! Not to heavy on the stomach

Great. Me and my girlfriend go here all the time. The food is great, as is the customer service. Prices are decent and the meals are always served quickly. Lovely stuff.
Northern Foodie
Best authentic Thai in Northern Melbourne. I love dining here.<br/>The staff and owner are so friendly, you cant help but be put in a better mood by seeing every staff member smile.<br/>I've been to Thailand a number of times and this is the place where i find the food, especially the pad thai compares to traditional Thai cuisine.<br/>Stand out dishes are;<br/>Pad Thai<br/>Tom Yum<br/>Massamum Curry<br/>Green Curry<br/><br/>You wont be disappointed!
Corinne
Arrived with high hopes, left bitterly disappointed! Service was fantastic, no faults there. Green Curry Chicken: was so mild it was nowhere near authentic. Calamari Satay Stirfry: actually enjoyed the sauce, but no spice whatsoever. Pandan Chicken: entree, tiny chewy bits of meat. Coconut rice: was plentiful and aromatic!<br/><br/>When questioned about our meal, replied honestly and said was unhappy about the Pandan Chicken entree as it was dry and chewy. Asked if it was frozen (definitely tasted that way), owner was evasive and then said they were prepared that morning. He then took my money and dismissively shooed us away. Went somewhere else after for dessert as I was not full or happy. If you are looking for authentic Thai flavours, this is NOT IT.
Jel
The first time I went to Mai Thai was a couple of months ago with 3 other friends. We all ordered several vegetarian variations of the dishes and each dish hit the spot. Since then this has become our weekly Thai spot. The food is always amazing and authentic, the staff and the owner are really lovely and always pleasant.
Jobber Smith
Beef and Garlic.. All I can say is... "Yes please!"<br/><br/>Definitely agree with the below, it's pretty much hit and miss. Sometimes delish and worth what ya pay, then other times not worth a pinch of the you know what....<br/><br/>Young woman that work there are cute so that always brightens up my dining experience. Generally v friendly.. though one time I offended one of them and it was a bit uncomfortable - didn't get the best customer service that night. But **** happens!<br/><br/>The elderly fella that runs the show there is an absolute gem. If it wasn't to weird, I'd probably hug him!
Alex Peter
Careful what you order. While the food may be good (yet to try it since hospital came first), after specifically requesting no peanuts and mild dishes at least 3 times, the takeaway order included 1 hot dish, and 2 peanut sauces.<br/><br/>Very disappointed in the lack of care taken.
Dream Maker
Been plaining visiting Mai Thai for a while....had a really pleasant experience & enjoyed our meals ! <br/>Ordered chicken satay skewers yum ! Roti with satay sauce<br/>Mains Massaman curry (beef) the beef was proper non fatty ...good cuts of meat ! <br/>Plus ordered chicken satay with veg dish ...we love satay !<br/>Desert was the banana fritter with ice cream ! It was Devine ! <br/>Service was friendly & welcoming.<br/>Will def return.

Some of the tastiest Thai food I have ever eaten. We got the green curry and pad Thai, yum!
James
Best thai in brunswick. Hard to find a good thai in melbourne but Mai Thai is heads above the rest in quality, flavour and service. My partner and I eat here regularly and get take away also. Green curry, pad thai noodles and thai beef salad are favourites. Also very reasonably priced, cant go wrong!
Tilly
Try the hoi jor. This is one of my favourite Thai spots in the area. The hoi jor entre is amazing. staff are always lovely.
GregT
Good food. I wish they would deliver though.
Susan Crowe
Consistently great Thai food. We have tried many others but keep coming back to Mai Thai. It's a regular now. Very convenient and good service.
Bob Guttengarbage
Too much sugar in the stir fry, screwed up my order, entree arrived with my main, and Kenny G. Sorry, I won't be coming back.
Al
Long time fan!. Have been dining at Mai Thai for around 4-5 years now. Love the food, the service and the prices ... and the fact you can BYO wine. Definitely recommend. Plus so convenient to jump off the tram for dinner, then jump back on and head on home!
Tyukei
Very happy, will be back.. Our second visit to Mai Thai, not quite as impressed as the first time, but still very good. Definitely will be back in future. The restaurant is well laid out, plenty of space between tables. It can be a little loud with a few people talking (could benefit from some soft furnishings to absorb some sound).<br/><br/>Ordered:<br/>Pad Grapow (Beef)<br/>Pad Thai (Chicken)<br/>Coconut Rice<br/>Roti Bread (with Satay Sauce)<br/><br/>Service very fast, food was fresh and hot, staff unintrusive but attentive. Meals were tasty, tender meat and vegetables cooked just right (still firm without being undercooked). Pad Thai subtle flavours with peanuts on the side. Pad Grapow had just enough chilli to get the taste buds singing, without completely overpowering other flavours. Roti bread was hot and moist, (maybe a tad oily) served as little rolls with a dish of delicious satay sauce (no heat to it, fairly subtle peanut notes.)
Unfortunate_socks
Great food, nice staff. I've never been disappointed here. Great, fresh dishes- the Pad Thai is my favourite. Good prices and you won't have to wait too long for your food. The guy who's always in there is lovely and I've never received bad service. Keep it up!
Sal
Really didn't enjoy our meal food was bland and tasteless. Maybe it's worth a second try due to the good reviews.
Chloee__
Amazing pad see ew noodles and very fresh and zesty Thai beef salad. I keep coming back because nowhere else has been able to live up to it!
Hinmelb
People here seem to be after western Thai (heptat, fatime eg), so there negative reviews are a bit biased. I thought this was wonderfully tasty, lots of chili and very authentic tasting... Most importantly there was a distinct lack of excess oil, which was a nice change from all the other 'Thai' restaurants I've been to in Melbourne. Almost as good as the home-cooked meals I had in Thailand. Also appreciated being given water and invited to sit when waiting for takeaway to be ready... Most restaurants make you feel really inconvenient as you wait!
Hungry
Generally pretty good. do NOT get the calamari!! horribly tough, chewy, odd coloured and the entire carton ended up in the bin.
Dancing Shoes
It's a bit hit and miss, I just had a soup and some spring rolls and they were both pretty average, although other times have been great.
Arose4lee
Lovely authentic Thai food. I love how this restaurant had something that alot of other restaurants did not have.. ROOM! There was enough space to accommodate two prams! Ambience was nice, bathrooms were clean. The food was really really good! My favourite dish has to be the paw paw salad. It tastes like how mum makes it. The brown chicken curry was also really yum. The staff were efficient and friendly. I would eat here again!
Emilias
Not for me.... I found the pad Thai was too sweet and the green curry was pretty bland.
PeterHill
Pretty Good. I visit this place often as it is walking distance from where I live.<br/>In general the food is pretty good and the staff I've always found to be very friendly and accomodating.<br/>My favourite dish is the Hor Mok Pla (think that's how you spell it) and I also love the mussamum beef curry. Sometimes I think their dishes have too much garnish on them, but I guess that's just their style. I like the big tables and I always feel like I've got a lot of space to chill out and relax with friends here.
Virginia
Yummm, it tastd exactly like the ones I was eating nearly everyday backpacking through asia. brought back many memories. Sweet spicy and tasty at the same time. servings could easily feed two people. I got an entree and main dish just for one and could only get halfway through them both. was very hard to leave half eaten panang curry on the table, but I was just too full.<br/><br/>Very friendly service, simple decor, reckon it'd be nice to have a few little tables out on the street, to make it a bit more "thai" feeling..but i'm being fussy. It's good good food!
Shanks
We had dinner here last night and it was excellent. For two people we shared a chicken satay for entree, then ordered two mains with rice and it was a perfect amount of food. The Panang Talay (seafood curry) and beef Pad Kra Prao (with chilli and basil) we both very tasty and weren't too rich or oily. We'll be back to try some other dishes!
Fatime
Its okay. You cant really mess up rice but the pad thai was a bit too dry, there wasnt enough on the plate cosidering its no cheaper than anywhere else that does a quick thai dish, the nuts were thrown on the side and there was more bean shoots than other veggies. However, if i ever did go back id just order a bunch of entrees - I tried a few and they were all pretty good.
Brunny Girl
Always good quality food and great service. And its byo. The green papaya salad and duck curry are always standouts. Sometimes a little lacking in chilli's but we do like it hot
Denni
Fresh food. Lovely feed here. Shared a couple of curries and a stir fry with some friends and the only thing I could fault is the tofu (a bit spongy) but since they ask whether you want it included or not in your veggie dish it's very easy to avoid. Didn't have any meat so can't speak for the quality of it. Will be back, service was good, food was tasty and came quickly. Can't ask for more than that!
Foodi
Very tasty food and great service. Mussaman curry was a delight, with the beef meltingly tender. Highly recommended
Chris
Just fantastic. I drive 45 mins to get to Mai Thai for the best satay sauce I have had anywhere in the world. Therefore, to me, it is the best in the world. They will do a whole fish red curry if you give them a days notice and it is well worth a phone call to organise this and try it. The fish is therefore guaranteed fresh. The owners are super friendly and they want you to enjoy your meal. It is relaxed dining and the food is superb which is what it is all about.
Eldontyrell
Good compromise. You've really got to tell Joe that you want your food cooked Thai Style. Otherwise sadly it does get served up to you in a bland and passionless way that I can only presume is designed to minimize complaints from ignorant inbreds (the patronage of whom must unfortunately be accepted in order for them to be able to pay their bills). If you do make it clear that you want it cooked Thai style (preferably bring an animated Thai friend with you to assure them that you know what you're asking for), then you'll get all those amazing flavours (and no, it's not all just about the chilli!!!) It's also a shame they don't do any whole fish dishes. The service is always excellent. Puts a lot of places in Brunswick to shame in this department!
Simon Flood
Best cheap thai in melbourne. This place is great. curry's that don't spare the chili and the best pad thai outside of thailand.
EJK
Love it!. Mai Thai is our regular Thai haunt. The service is exceptional and meals are always served quickly. The Hoi Jor entree is the best Thai entree in Melbourne, the Thai Beef Salad and Beef & Cashew Nuts is also exceptional. Best to eat in here. THe takeaway food is of distinctly lesser quality.
Sarah Cunningham
A favourite!. Great food, great service and cheap. the manager/owner is lovely and always makes sure we have enjoyed our meals. good variety and heaps on the menu (unlike Warrick Thai - ugh!) will continue to go back
Hania Trzaskowski
I do love this place, if not got the food which is delicious (ESP the pandan chicken) and not just stoping on oils like I've found in most Thai places. The service is excellent, we are always very well looked after, and if anything is every forgotten about or messed up, it's attented to straight away. Makes for a lovely experience no matter what. The only thing I would add is a couple of more non alcoholic drink options. I recommend the papaya salad.
Heptat
Western Thai food. Very western Thai food, and way too sweet (although they like to cook with sugar in Thailand too). However the occasional meal is quite tasty.
