Review The Uleg - Brunswick

Richard T.Whybrow
Plenty of fabulous dishes in truly traditional Indonesian restaurant. The service is quick and friendly with a lovely atmosphere. The walls out presented with “art work” that you may purchase if you so desire. This restaurant is small at the street front but it is very large in size by its depth and one that you should not missed if you’re looking for a delicious dinner. Not open for lunch but it should be a sought after venue for a delicious dinner.

We ordered Ayam Betutu, Kolak, and Es Cendol. They were very good and we recommend it so much. The service was very nice as well. Everything was wonderful, but one. We waited the food to be served for quite long. If you can manage it faster, we will give 5 stars. Thank you.

Ordered takeaway, pre order type deal. Arrived at 7 to pick up was ready withing minutes. Everything we ordered was super tasty. Highly recommend. Thai and Vietnamese is usually my go to, this was nice and fresh not to heavy.

Amazing iga bakar sambal balado (beef ribs) and even better customer service. I came here on a busy Sunday night and was told it would take at least 20 minutes for my meal as they had many online orders. I happily waited (all good things are worth waiting) and I certainly did not regret it! The food was extremely satisfying and authentic. The staff members were so lovely and went above and beyond to make my dine in experience an excellent one. Thank you very much for the lovely hot ginger tea at the end of my meal. I look forward to returning for my next dose of yummy authentic Indonesian food!

Super friendly and helpful. Very authentic and high quality food. If you don't only want food they have a cosy courtyard

Ordered pickup during lockdown, and won't go back there again. Called beforehand and followed their instructions to leave notes in the online order that its prepared gluten free for a coeliac (since I was sharing the meal with a Coeliac). They called us after we had picked up the food and drove away because they did not prepare gluten free. We had to drive back and wait 20 minutes outside for them to prepare replacements. The owner also insisted we return every single item that she was replacing because she didn't want to give us a 'meal for free' and wanted to 'eat it herself'. Customer service from her was poor, she was cheap and happy to waste our time for their mistake but took no responsibility and offered no apology. As for the meal, it was quite mediocre. The chicken was dry and satay sauce was plain. I've had better Indonesian food at most other Indonesian restaurants and takeaways around Melbourne and Indonesia. The only positive was the young waitress was very nice.

Staff were very friendly in expaning the menu items. Love the double cooked beef. Peanut sauce is more nutty than sweet. Decor was okay. Has a court yard sitting. Has better look.

Had the fried rice and nasi padang to go, they were nicely wrapped in containers and were still warm until they reached home. Nasi padang was alright, definitely a lot of beef rendang in there!

The nasi goreng, however, was a let down. The rice were clumped together and soggy. Vegetables also felt like they are boiled then just tossed in with the rice.
Jessica
Great food and friendly staff.

I came here with my wife. The food was absolutely delicious, and 100% authentic (I've lived in Indonesia). We loved it! A true gem of a restaurant in the heart of Brunswick!

Loved the ambience and of course the food, was on Bali just a few weeks ago, and was in the mood to try some Indonesian food again, I must say they delivered on point. And loved the friendly staff as well. Would recommend anyone who is looking for an authentic Indonesian food experience.

If I could give 0 stars, I would.
Tastes nothing like Indonesian food, I mean if you want to try a westernized version then sure go ahead. Ordered a gado gado, tahu telur and satay - all 3 dishes are drenched in the exact same sauce. And the sauce itself, flavorless and boring. Beef ribs are alright, but head down to the city and you’ll find plenty of places that do it way better. Service is friendly but extremely extremely slow - saw a couple of tables leaving because no one was around to take their order. One table even had their food to go because it took too long. We waited for 45 mins for the food and to serve it at this standard?
WOULD NOT BE BACK.

Friends and I were looking to grab dinner before a gig and stumbled upon this little gem. We ordered chicken ribs and gado gado to share with iga bakar (beef ribs), soto betawi (beef soup) and mie ayam (chicken noodles with soup) for mains. The beef ribs had an amazing charred flavour and the meat just fell apart. The sambal was authentic with a real kick! The beef in the beef soup was also very tender. The chicken noodles were tasty, although the noodles were a tad dry. The peanut sauce on the gado gado was not as flavoursome as I expected. The service was a little on the slow side but very friendly and warm. Recommend this place if you want to try a different Asian flavour other than your usual Chinese, Vietnamese or Thai.

Generous serves and friendly service. A little bit of a long wait for dishes to arrive. Chilled out space and no pretense. Come for the tofu telur and tempeh of any sort.

If I could give 0 stars, you know I would. I ordered their Mie Goreng and checked the gluten free option online. When I received my food, the noodles looked too thick and wriggly to be gluten free, so I called back to confirm and without double checking, the staff ADAMANTLY told me that my food was definitely gluten free, so I took a couple of bites. I’ve had my fair share of GF noodles at this point and realised these were not those. I called back to double check, and only after pushing for the host to check the kitchen did I find out that my noodles were in fact wheat noodles. They don’t seem to care about allergies, apparently, and they also gave me the most dismissive apology I’ve ever received. I have no dinner, and am now facing a whole lot of recovery time from this meal. Please avoid if you have allergies.

Lovely service. Owner was super accommodating. Such great menu choices, hard to pick. Best rendang I've ever had. Spicy & not too oily. Maybe needed an accompaniment such as veggies, but that was my fault for not ordering a side serve. BYO, & prices are good.

Walked in on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

The Balinese music was spot on for a place so humble and simple like this. We had a seat and we ordered the beef ribs on peanut sauce, mee goreng chicken and prawn, the lamb curry with roti.

A plate of complimentary chicken ribs were served and I felt that was a nice touch by the friendly team.

The mee goreng was probably one of the best I’ve had in Melbourne! The ribs were delicious, the lamb curry was spot on and I really couldn’t fault this place at all.

The service was fantastic as they made sure we were happy with our meal and always offered their hand with anything, if need be.

Lovely place! Definitely recommend this place if you want a cosy meal!

A very large meal and deliciously seasoned. Generous sauces too. But we have to wait for an hour for the food to come. Iga Bakar is recommended.

Kind of missing Indonesian food so I went to this restaurant, very close to my house. The ambience was so good, I love how they do the lighting.
I ordered Friend Chicken as appetizer and Soto Betawi as my main course. The chickens was just so ordinary and small, served with Indonesian sambal. Soto betawi was nice although the soup was quite salty but it was just ok if I ate it with rice. The soup also thick and creamy, with coconut milk. Love it. I found a lot of big beef chunks in the Soto, it was nice and tender too.
Staff was very kind and helpful. But the food came out very late, maybe around 30-40 minutes.
My friend said that the price is quite expensive there compare to another Indonesian restaurant in CBD but I personally think their tastes are different and I like this restaurant better.

Went for an all vegetarian set, all items had where very tasty and well balanced. Had the gado gado, mi goreng vego and the deep fried oyster mushrooms with rice. Excited at the thought of going again.

come here for dinner now and then when i visit from perth. laksa is beautiful and creamy and the most generous serving i've had, tahu isi is great too. staff are always friendly and welcoming
Hizkia Ibrahim
The best soto betawi I've ever had in Melbourne! Not too salty, perfect taste once added with sweet soy sauce and the chilli, meat is soft and cooked right. The bebek betutu also cooked to perfection that the meat is soft while the skin is crispy. Love the food and service is good too. This becomes my new favourite Indo restaurant in Melbourne
Wolfman
Best Indonesian in town!!! Amazing food and super friendly staff. We came in on a quiet Monday night and the chef served us up a new dish she was trailing and it was stunning!!! Seriously, go check this place out, I've spent s bit of time in INDONESIA and the flavours are really authentic, but the end product is much closer to a Melbourne palate. Love it.

Great foods, friendly service, delivery available. This is one of my favourite Indonesian restaurants in Melbourne. They have a unique interpretation of Indonesian dishes which for me is so great. My personal favourite in this restaurant is their Nasi Padang with Spicy Chicken. Just a very nice combination of spices and coconut milk with a chicken that's so tender. Must try!!

The food was sensational ... BUT. We ordered two vegetarian meals... the served were barely entree size. Vegetables are CHEAP , yet they scrimp on that?
A shame- the food was sensational but it's a rip off even at $12/$14 a dish.

Waited over an hour to be given tiny portions of cold food. Waiter was very apologetic but honestly this meal was a bad experience. I will not be going back.
Melb Foodie
Unacceptably small serving size for a main meal and I got no response when I called the restaurant several times to check if there was a mistake with our order. Very disappointing, as their chicken at the Brunswick street festival was expensive but tasty.
Sally Tsang
Food was really delicious! Chicken skewers (the satay sauce was amazing), gado gado (yummiest way to eat vegetables!) and beef rendang. Dessert of chocolate roti was generous and yummy too. Only downside was that food took awhile to come even though place was not busy.
BeardedBruncher
Ordered 5 skewers and received 5 plates of 5 skewers each. Raw chicken skewers. Pubic hair in the chicken curry. There was no discount for the issues we had. I'm not one to bag out a place so harshly but as nice as the server was, we all called it a night early so we could go back to our respective homes and throw up. Repulsive experience and we'll never return. Absolutely no excuse!
Rachel
I love the soto betawi that serve in the Uleg. I've been eat Soto Betawi in Indonesia and soto betawi in the Uleg is most delicious than in Indonesia.
Patrick
I had been to the Uleg several times before last night and always enjoyed it. The food was good and reasonably priced. However, last night we went, we found the service very bad and not so friendly, but what was a lot worse was the food!
Both me and a friend ordered different meals and were so disappointed we had to get a second dinner.
The portions were tiny, barely anything, also the taste was pathetic. The worst meal I have had in a while. What is worse though, my friend and I both got sick shortly afterwards, to which we blame the Uleg.I would never ever go back and urge people to stay away from the Uleg
Brillat-Savarin
They have to choose "Cheap Eat Asian" or "Fine dinning". I am so disappointed that the portion was tiny, I was not impressed with the flavour.
Nean
Not only are the portions tiny, but flavours are abysmal. We had better Gado Gado at the airport in Jakarta (and we all know how bad airport food can be!)

You would need 2 serves to equate to 1 meal. And the calamari was overly oily = oil not hot enough.

Final gripe - the service was overly slow and many tables that came after us were served half an hour before us (we waited an hour for the first sign of food - one of the orders was plain rice - how hard is that!. we had hungry kids - I ended up walking up the street to buy something for them to snack whilst waiting)
Iceman
The Uleg certainly is not without potential. The food is quite good, almost great, and the prices more than reasonable, but...the serves are a little on the compact side for my liking. Having said that I wouldn't hesitate to return. Uleg also offers BYO wine for $2pp which adds to the appeal

Have eaten here four times now, unfortunately the last two have been extremely dismal and disappointing. I believe the lady running the front of house is actually cooking now? No serving staff out the front, which means unable to order more drinks, water. No table clearing at all. The mie goreng was lovely, but the other four meals were left half eaten. Unsure what has happened to this place, but it's entirely obvious they have changed chefs and front of house staff. Waited to pay for ages. Meals took over an hr to get to us. Wanted to try it for a second time even though the last time was so poor aswell, unfortunately it wasn't a one off. The menu is cheap, but reflected in portion sizes and cuts of meat, grissly chicken and fatty beef. Plenty of other amazing places to eat on sydney road. Won't be fooled a third time!

Finally found better place to enjoy great meals with a great price. Simple food cook into perfection added with smiles from the staffs and finally pay a reasonable price at the counter. We have to come back again for sure. Beef Ribs, Mie Goreng Medan, Nasi Goreng Kambing and Steaks are strongly recommended..!!

Love this restaurant! Great atmosphere, friendly service and delicious food. I want to eat here every week.

Stunning. Many fave dishes at ulek but the most is beef ribs and satay. Very cheap but you've got a huge ribs (less than 15!) . You guys must try they new dishes. They just release steak halal. I had try sirloin and tenderloin both meat so tender and really yummy! This is one of the best resto in Melbourne :)
Richardmc
Not 100% Halal. Selling alcohol and food is not up to the standard. Must learn how to cook proper Indonesian food. Also other asian ones are not delicious enough. Restaurant is nice and clean but very doubtful if all the meat are halal even though halal sticker is pasted on the front door.

I love this place. The people are friendly, service prompt. Food is consistently great. Working my way through the menu. And such good value.

Yum! Super tasty food. Prices reasonable. I'll keep coming back here.

Magnificent. Fabulous food at the Uleg once again, it is so consistent that we are never disappointed. We drive from the Eastern suburbs to go to the Uleg Brunswick restaurant, no other restaurant is as good on the Eastern side. Highly recommend.

Loved it! Esp the Tofu entree, lamb curry and beef stew (no. 47!). Definitely recommend and going back there again. Meals are super cheap too!

Okay but could be better. Bought takeaway for dinner, friendly service, quick to take order but waited more than half an hour for my simple order to be ready. It wasn't very busy there were about 4 tables and half of them were eating already. Food was decent. An okay place but speed of service could be improved.

Just wonderful. I'm puzzled why The Uleg doesn't have a higher rating. I echo many of the previous reviews: simply outstanding food, and warm hospitable service. You can tell they are really proud of what they serve, and rightly so.

The little starters of the dim sim type thing and the fish cake in banana leaf were really yum. The accompanying peanut sauce was perfect.

The beef rendang is amazing. The meat was so tender and the sauce was so complex it's quite difficult to describe. Lovely and rich but not oily. Simply outstanding. The grilled snapper was incredible too. It was so cute, a baby snapper the perfect size for one. The sambal topping was a lemongrassy chilli topping but to simply describe it as that does not do it justice. Order rice so you can mix it with every last drop of the sambal.

So many things on the menu look so interesting and not westernised. The waitress (I think the owner - perhaps the wife of the chef?) is very happy to answer any questions and help you with ordering. I can't wait to return and urge others to try this little gem on Sydney Road.

My absolute favourite local restaurant. It's one of those places you almost want to keep to yourself, but at the same time they are so good and so lovely they deserve to be successful so I feel obliged to tell people about them :)

I lived in the area for about 6 months before I gave them a try and have been there almost every week since. I love the warm and considered atmosphere and friendly welcome I always receive. Excellent value for money and delicious.

Yummy Crab. I like the soft shell crab. Tasty and yummy. But my friends like the Ribs, which I will try on my next visit.

So it's bad luck if you don't eat mussels. This used to be a weekly favourite for us until I ordered the special of mee goreng and it arrived with mussels. Except mussels weren't listed on the menu as being in this dish. When I asked to have the dish as it was described, I was told it comes with mussels, and the woman (I think she's the manager / owner) grabbed the menu out of my hands and started telling me how it's listed in the description. When she found it actually wasn't listed she said, "so you don't like mussels?". No, I don't like mussels and if I order a dish that doesn't contain them I don't expect it to arrive with them. She then finally said she'd replace the dish (which I clearly hadn't touched). The replacement mee goreng was so full of chilli (also not listed in the description) I couldn't eat it, and I love chilli. It was clear I was being punished by the chef, even though they included an ingredient that wasn't even in that dish! A weird experience and a very sad end to what was a long time fave.

Fabulous food. We just ate at the Uleg tonight and the food was fantastic, it was the best food we've had for some time and the price was very reasonable.
Yudy Chainy
Highly recommended restaurant, the closest nasi goreng taste to the one in Indonesia. Thank God!
Barbara
Just had dinner here! Great Indonesian food and the prices are reasonable!
Hmmm
Friendly, tasty and great value. Wanted to try Indonesian as a family - decided to give this one a go as it was close and recent reviews suggest a good experience. It was a lovely night - friendly waitress was happy to teach the kids some Indonesian words and suggest foods that would be suitable, we had a variety of dishes including 3 seafood dishes and they were all very tasty and great value for money. Even noticed they have free Indonesian lessons on Thursdays. A lovely restaurant, we'll be back, suggest you give it a try too - that's why I bothered writing my first review so that others would give these guys a chance!

EXCELLENT VALUE! Recommend. This place was amazing value. We went as a group of 8 and including some wine, spent $20 each and came away full and happy. Nice service, great value, fully recommend.

Delightful!! Heard some terrible reviews about this place but has since changed hands so thought we'd give it a go. We shared the combined meat entree platter which was quite large and delicious! Then shared a couple mains which were good size and very tasty. The waitress was lovely and was very attentive. Definitely planning on returning!
Hunting Food
Mr Hunter. I have been first time in Uleg but made me disapponted however that ribs very hard to eat!

Worth a try!. I had been a bit apprehensive about trying this restaurant after reading these reviews, but was very pleasantly surprised by what I found at The Uleg!

The beef rendang is an extremely generous serving and an absolute steal at the price (only $10!). Plus it was very tasty! We also ordered the special nasi goreng - I was expecting something very standard, but instead was very impressed by a squid ink-tinted fried rice with calamari pieces throughout along with a delicious hint of lemongrass. To balance out the meat and rice we had one of the limited vegetarian options - a tofu and bean stir fry. It was a cheap dish, and was small in size, definitely a side dish rather than a starring piece, but the sauce was tasty and the beans were fresh.

I'm really glad I tried this place, just around the corner from where I live, and I will definitely be back!

Delicious, recommend. My hubby and I went here for a casual dinner and really loved it. Not the oily Indo I've often had. Love, love, love the rending - the biggest rending serve I've ever seen. The service was fabulous - friendly and caring, the atmosphere was warm and inviting.
Gin
Good clean fun. Service is extremely friendly and welcoming. The vegetarian entree sampler gave us plenty to savour, though the tempeh was a little oily. Gado gado was fresh and well presented with a tasty if not knock-out peanut sauce. It's a good feed for the price and I'd happily return.

A Big Bang of rendang. I wouldn’t want to live in Brunswick -- it strikes me as cramped and daggy, plus I’m a south-of-the-Yarra snob -- but I sure do like to eat there. Sydney Road is lined with every kind of ethnic resto I could desire, and they’re usually good value-for-money. Like The Uleg.

This Indonesian hole-in-the-wall is a friendly place. I popped in at 10 minutes before closing time, and they still were happy to serve me an eat-in meal. (That wouldn’t have happened in Perth, where most everything closes at 8:30 and forget about sitting down if you rock up past 8. Feh!) I ordered beef rendang, because that’s the standard dish I use to judge Indo/Malay/Singa restaurants. The Uleg puts out a HUGE pile of meat -- it must have been half a kilo! It’s a dryish version of this dish, not swimming in oily sauce, just thick (like 15 mm through-and-through) slices that would fill most of my palm or were as wide and long as my index and middle finger put together. All pieces nicely slathered with a moderately hot sauce, and there was a good slurry of it underneath the tower of beef, too. I can wolf down some food, but it was too much for me, for only $9.90. The plates of other items coming out to diners around me were also ample.

If I had been more adventurous (and had allowed myself more time to study the menu) I would have picked some of the dishes that seemed new to me, like “soto betawi,” a creamy coconut and beef soup, or “nasi ulan,” Batavian steamed rice with spicy coconut, fried tempeh and cucumber. As it was, I had a strange dessert called “roti bakar cokelat keju.” It was two pieces of white-bread toast with chocolate (tasted like Nutella) melted between them. The whole concoction was sprinkled with finely shredded cheese. (Not as salty as Tasty cheese, probably Gouda.) They left off the condensed milk the menu promised -- too bad, so sad, but I don’t need the calories. Chocolate and cheese aren’t my idea of dessert -- maybe it’s a Dutch colonial thing? -- but I give The Uleg credit for offering something uncommon.
Zoe
Amazing lamb curry unlike anything i've ever tasted.

potato cakes as entree were delicious too

Also tried the mee goreng which was just ok.

friendly service and nice deco. will definitely return for the lamb curry and potato cakes. can't wait!

Felt the need to rewrite my review from Nov 2012 after eating there again this weekend.
7pm, entered a quiet restaurant. strange on a weekend as it should be their busiest time. Sat down to order drinks, "two Bintangs please".... "Sorry we don't have any".
A Indonesian restaurant that hasn't got Bintang on a weekend, unbelievable haha. Had a 'Fat Yak' instead. They also bought over a bottle of warm table water, "not very nice on a 28 degree night".
Food was ok. Prices have increased & portion sizes have decreased since we last ate here 8 months prior.
Would I eat here again? Yes, in a couple of months to see if they've listened to the public/ this comment, and improved.
A Indonesian restaurant should always have cold Bintangs, cold table water. Go back to basics guys!
8 months ago you were 9/10
Last weekend you were 3/10

Unsure what to make of this restuarant
The staff were great - quick service and very friendly.
the food was a mix of good and bad - the chicken skewers with peanut sauce entree was GREAT - after this I was very much looking forward to the mains. But the mains were a let down. the Nasi Goreng was mediocre, the vegies with peanut sauce was delicious but the beef with cilli on top was the worst beef I have had in a long time! It was as if the beef had been cooked, then left in an oven to keep it warm for hours - it was dry and tasteless, luckily the chilli on top helped.
Not overly expensive
Overall - I would like to try a second time to see if it improves - but I will not hurry back!! If that makes sense!!
Jesspo
Top Tofu!. Had a quick dinner here tonight - Tofu and beans in a soy sauce & rice - the sauce was a little sweet - but overall the dish was satisfying. Clean restaurant, and nearly full with locals. I would definitely go back, the menu is quite large and the service is quick and polite. Very cheap - my meal plus drink was under $11! Love that a authentic Indonesian place is near by!

Having recently returned from bali and moving in across the road from te uleg, myself and my partner love it! You can eat four amazing dishes there have wine with your meal and pay 50! Value for money is incredible I highly recommend this restaurant !

A girlfriend & I meant to go elsewhere recently and lucked up on The Uleg as a fantastic alternative! The flavours, food, staff - all so nice and total cost incredibly inexpensive. The food was fresh with nice combinations of flavours. Delicately cooked calamari - a simple dish so easily and commonly ruined - cooked to perfection. The Sampler selection is a must for the range of Indonesian dishes and promised tastiness of the dishes to come. Dinner for 2 was well under $50! Have now recommended it through friends in Facebook and all who've gone have said the same... a hidden delight!

Good, cheap Indonesian food. I don't get it. The food and service is good, it's cheap and the Bintang is cold. So why all the neg reviews? The spring rolls, sate and rendang were all good, the tofu dish less so, but I'll be back to try more of this menu. I suspect Firman is a "FAKE" or maybe it has changed chefs.
Simon
Delicious food, great value!. I love eating here! The food is always great value and great flavours, very authentic. There is a good wine list which is also very cheap as well as cheap beers - a plus for me! The staff are friendly and welcoming.
I don't get the bad reviews on here or why this place isn't more popular. Personally I love the place.
Give it a try, you won't regret it!
Maya
Frozen meat used!. Don't know how this restaurant passed the Health Inspections.. went there couple days ago with friends.. got my chicken on the table, taste okay.. but when it reach the middle part of the chicken.. IT WAS COLD!... They must use precooked chicken.. which is not satisfy at all... My mate suggested me to make complaint.. I said, "not necessary... this will be my first and the last time eating in this restaurant"... Sorry have to write this.. but this is serious.. Cold chicken?? yuck!

Yum. Having just returned from Indonesia, I was craving some authentic Indo food - and The Uleg delivered. The pepes ikan was particularly good, as was the chicken and the sate.
Very reasonable prices, and lovely service with wonderful Indonesian smiles.

Cheap and good!. Prices are really cheap, have had takeaway and eat in, its generally about $8-12 which is amazing, the flavors are intense and vibrant far from bland!
highly recommed the bbq ribs (really sweet), soft shell crab. beef rendang is so-so, but if you get takeaway each main comes with a serve of rice for free! we spent 30 bucks and it fed me and 2 dudes contently.
we've been back a lot since discovering this place ordered the same dished alot too, the standard is always the same which i love and the food is delicious!

i must say the last time we dined in was a slight disappointment, both the dishes came out cold, one stone cold. we asked for the really cold one to be reheated, it took so long and we sat there eating one dish, and when it came out again it was still cold. boo. we like the restaurant so much though that we're willing to give it another chance. the staff are lovely.
Zoe
A great restaurant under new management. Delicious food at great prices. Friendly staff and nice decor.

Cheap n Good, vegan freindly. I had take away few times and ask some changes in ingredients for vegetarian meal..and it comes good all the times.be back soon

It was a mistake eating in this restaurant. It is an honest review from me, it was a mistake eating dinner in this restaurant. The food taste are so wrong, compare to other Indonesian restaurants this restaurant are so awful. No wonder there were not many people eating in this restaurant at peak dinner time.

The people who vote 'Likes it' are obviously "A FAKE" members created by the owner of this restaurant, only tasteless human who vote this restaurant with good review. Sorry for my comment, but this is an honest opinion for me.

Won't come again to this restaurant.
Darren
The worst take out ever. Tried the Ulag today for take-away for me and some mates. Ordered 3 beef rendang, 3 steamed rice and some prawn spring rolls which came to $40.50. Not bad I thought, until I got home with the 'food'. What I got was three tubs of steamed rice, one tub of the driest beef rendang in history and, spring rolls and a tub of shredded cabbage in yellow water.

Far from the succulent and rich dish I had come to know and love the beef rendang tasted like it had been so over cooked that the sauce had reduced down into condensed form which should have come with instructions to dilute with coconut cream to taste. The beef itself was dry and stringy and not at all resembling the succulent dish I was expecting. I can only guess at the cabbage in yellow water as it resembled nothing I have ever had the displeasure of tasting. As for the rice, well they didn't even get that right. Not sure how you can stuff up steamed rice but they somehow managed it. The only positive thing I can say that the spring rolls were ok.

All in all I can safely say I will never go there again and will never recommend it to anyone I know, even the ones I dislike! No star rating from me, in fact I would give it a black hole.
Amy
Amazing!. Such tasty meals for such cheap prices... We had 2 mains, 1 entree and 1 dessert which came to $25. The waitress was super friendly and efficient- will definitely be coming back here weekly at least!

I'm undecided. My meal was really tasty (no.3)but my husband ordered the chicken goreng and it was cold in the middle. They'd obviously precooked the chicken and reheated but it was disapointing. I feel bad for them because they are a new restaurant and really trying to make a go of it. But half warm chicken....not cool.
