Review Lady Melville - Brunswick

Neil McKellar
Great food at decent prices. Started with a juice which was very large and my girlfriends coffee was very nice. I had the breakfast burger which was very filling and tasty. My girlfriend got the Green Lady and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Great service

Delicious!! Came here with my partner for a quick pit stop before we needed to go somewhere and ordered the Brekky burger and an OJ. Great service, came out quickly and it was delicious and fresh. Highly recommend!

Enjoyed our lunch at this cafe. The healthy bowl was very yummy and filling! And the mushroom halloumi bruschetta was nice too, although it was less like a bruschetta and more like a vegetable big brekky (which is what I felt like) and a large filling portion :) thank you! Really appreciated the variety of vegetarian options ❤️ Service was lovely and the oat milk coffee was nice. Really liked the little Florentine too. Relaxed, humble atmosphere- not too fancy. Good value for money. Thank you :) will be back.

Absolutely delicious Duke's Fritters! The piccolo hit the spot too. So much room with seating on the street, in the cafe, in the next room and out the back. Will definitely be back 😊

Food was super cheap and fantastic, the vegan chicken was delicious as was everything else. Nice vibe.
Liana Pagonis
Great b’fast spot. The staff were accommodating of my brother’s request for an item that wasn’t on the menu. Breakfast burger was fantastic- one of the best my husband has had. I had the banana jaffle which was also divine!
Kat
I really enjoyed eating here :) there were a lot of vegan/vegetarian options that were available and had meat as an optional side, which is cool. I had dukes fritters and they were honestly the best fritters I've had in a while! The service was lovely and I would definitely come back
Katarina Smirnova
coffee (soy flat white) was really good. menu is fairly standard, with generous serves. gluten free bread and salads are your main GF options.
Leticia Ashley
Really great coffee, fresh food good value. I enjoyed the calamari asian salad, my brother had the slow cooked sticky pork burger. Both meals were fresh and full of flavour, would come back here again for another meal. Thank You!
Deb Ashley
Customer service was spot on. Meals were delicious. Certainly recommend their calamari & salad.
Sharayah Molenkamp
Friendly staff, great coffee but poor food! Packet bacon- enough said! Feeling ripped off, not a pleasant experience.
Carla Barcello
The beast hot chocolate in Melbourne. Staff very friendly.
Curly Cheffins
Thank you for the lovely coffee! And the $1 discount as I couldn't find my card and only had loose shrapnel. I really appreciate it

Hip and funky little place near home .. yummy food and great friendly staff :) keep up the great work
Nadja Danger
Great little place. Kid friendly. Fast efficient service. Nice coffee and great menu. Considering we live 500m away, we'll be regulars! Great to see a cafe open on a Sunday close by!
Dina Khaled
LOOOOOOOVED! Best calamari salad and cheeseburger EVER! Congrats on opening and best of luck! You'll be seeing a lot of me!! :)

Coffee is amazing, food is amazing, staff are helpful, hilarious and devilishly good looking.
Michelle Wright
Magic coffee is magic we will be back to explore more of the menu!

Great spot! Close to home, nice people, good coffee, great brekky!
Alycia Lee
The coffee is definitely a nice blend; however, I ordered a large take-away & it was a good 2-3cm short of filling the cup... Not cool, guys, not cool!
April Hudson
Great coffee!

Fish and chips for lunch and leave the kids to play in the court yard. Friendly family owned cafe, great fish and chips and plenty of toys for the little ones whilst you get a break for the ankle biters.
Sydney Diner
Best Reuben sandwich ever. Nice sweet potato chips.

Went to this lovely, cute cafe in brunswick with my partner today. Lovely coffee with late art which is a bonus as well as really nice food. Was very nice relaxing cafe and lovely staff who greeted us as we came in and left.

I love this place! My business partner and I visit once a week as it is between two stops for the day. If it was closer to my house I would definitely go more often. We always get a coffee and sometimes food and we’ve never had a bad experience. The staff members are super lovely and helpful and will go out of their way to give personalised service to everyone there. There are always great vegetarian and gluten free options, portion sizes are generally what I consider to be very large, I don’t know what these other reviewers think is a big portion because I’ve never left hungry. Will definitely continue to be a regular.

This place can be a little hit and miss on service however in the few times we have stopped by for a quick coffee or lunch, have been pleasntly surprised.<br/>Last visit was a simple BLT. Really good presentation and the extras gave it a real lift.

If you want some bad handling of food and a side of snotty nosed waitresses with bad hygiene then look no further! Worst cafe in the area by far
Hao-Ning Ng
Friendly waitresses. Good food. Awesome ambience. We ordered mushroom on toast with Halloumi and a French toast with gelato. They both taste delicious. But would expect the portion to be a bit more bigger. Other than that. Awesome place to eat.

What a poor, disappointing experience. The owners would do well to look at the reviews on this site and take action to rectify, because in Brunswick there are plenty of other choices that have much better food and service.<br/><br/>Is a longish review so TL:TR<br/>1. Staring<br/>2. Poor customer service<br/>3. HAIR in food - yuck!!!<br/><br/>Firstly, the STARING!! My partner and I walked in and the staff chatter immediately stopped and all of them (5 members of staff) stared at us...no greeting, just staring! How uncomfortable!<br/><br/>Secondly, after looking over the menu, a young girl asked us if we would like to order any drinks and if we were ready to order food. I was still deciding between two dishes and asked for another minute - big mistake. Not a single person approached us after that for nearly 10 minutes. After awkwardly sitting there being ignored by all of the staff, a lady who I thought might have a been the manager (red/orangey top, dark hair) stood up from the table she was sitting at after I caught her eye, then proceeded to the front counter. I thought she was going to ask one of the girls to come and take our order or get a notepad and pen herself, but instead she got a book and sat down again. <br/><br/>Thirdly, I found a HAIR in my dish, it wasn’t just a single hair you could put to the side, is was more like a clump or knot which was disgusting. I couldn’t finish my food after that, we paid and left. I have attached a few photos, sorry the quality is not great.<br/><br/>Would not recommend at all, and if I could give a 0 rating I would.<br/><br/>Also - is their any air con in this place? On a 42 degree day this is not the place to go to, or any day really...
TheyCallHimX
Cute cafe with friendly staff. Service was relatively quick. Food tasted really nice. Just wish the serving size was bigger.<br/><br/>Especially on the Rueben sandwich. Australian can really learn from the US when it comes to Rueben sandwiches.

Absolutely terrible. Owners stand and stare at everyone as they walk in and don't even say hello. Waffles are pre bought at the supermarket. Had a friend who worked there and they under payed her consistently. Very uncomfortable being there. The owners don't know how to run a business. No idea what they're doing. And they absolutely reek. The food is so expensive for tiny serves.

We have been long time regular customers although only for the coffee since we had a couple of bad experiences with the food. <br/> The coffee has always been excellent and for me definitely the best in the area. About April 2017 we noticed a change of owners which was no big deal but then all the long term staff seem to gradually disappear leaving a procession of amateurs at the expresso machine often with tragic results. This week I have been subjected to 2 vile coffees which would never have occurred in the past. If tomorrow's coffee is the same I will say so to the new boss and move on forever. Watch this space. <br/><br/>
Must Be Hungry
Brunswick West is very underestimated but it reserves many venues that deserve some love like Lasy Melville.<br/><br/>Decided to have a light breakfast to start the day and I went for the Green Lady, their Smashed Avocado dish. <br/><br/>The meal arrived quickly and it was exactly what I expected, nothing more nothing less. Standard Smash Avo, well cooked egg and filling in a healthy way. Perhaps not the best I have ever had but pretty decent to come back and try other items off their menu.

I think this little place deserves more credit than it gets. The coffee , while it won't blow your mind , is of a good standard and is quite nice. The atmosphere is very good and the service is warm and friendly. I will admit that when it's packed the quality of service drops quite a bit but it's still very good. I had the brunswich in my last visit. It was well put together, fresh and tasty. It's a little small for the price but nevertheless it was enjoyable. All in all a consistent quality cafe. It's not a place I would rave about. Yet it is somewhere I will keep coming back to.

Appalling, I will never return. Lady Melville used to be a fabulous local cafe with a creative menu but sadly it appears to have changed hands. I had breakfast in a group of 10 people on a Sunday and we experienced a comedy of errors and terrible service. <br/><br/>Two of us ordered the acai bowl. Firstly we were served two chia puddings instead of the acai. We sent them back. Then they served us two bowls of toasted muesli (cheap, from the supermarket) with yoghurt and 1/4 banana, six blueberries (my yoghurt also came with a touch of green, which was pesto which obviously came from another dish). We asked where the acai was. The owner told us "we have not been serving acai with this dish for a while". Whilst they did agree to not charge us for these dishes, it was incredible to think that they are serving "acai bowls" without acai. <br/><br/>My friend ordered an "iced latte" (which is listed separately on the menu to iced-coffee). She was asked whether she wanted cream, she said "no, and I want the iced-latte, not the iced-coffee". She received an iced coffee with ice-cream. She sent it back. She then received a very weak iced-latte with hardly any coffee in it and had to order another shot of coffee. <br/><br/>Other friends were disappointed with their food, having received cold eggs, poached eggs which were cooked through and what appeared to be tinned baked beans. <br/><br/>The waiters did not clear the table and the coffee cup which held the coffee I finished long before the meals came out, sat at the table for our entire visit. <br/><br/>Finally, despite sitting inside, we were all freezing because the back door was constantly left open by the staff, allowing freezing air to breeze through into the dining room. <br/><br/>Lady Melville, it was nice knowing you (back in the good old days). Farewell.
The Beauty Of Melbourne
I really enjoy the brunswich from lady Melville - very moreish. Nice local cafe to walk down to, pretty casual, great for take away. Not much parking.

Visited this morning with my husband for a coffee and quick bite. As soon as we walked in all the female staff were just standing around chatting. Service was horrible not friendly staff at all. <br/>I had the lamb salad it was not nice combination of flavors at all way too many ingredients that did not match. My husband just finished it off because he was hungry. scrambled eggs were the only good thing and I will say their coffee was nice. I would only go back for a table away coffee if i'm in the area again.
Nicole
Disappointed. There was only aircon in front room which is fine for coffee. We couldn't sit in the courtyard because of the terrible smell. We sat in the second room which was extremely hot. Numerous items on the menu were not available, leaving few options for the children. My daughter ordered an ice chocolate without cream but unfortunately it arrived with cream. The $15 waffles were beautifully presented but a tiny serve for the price. The food seems overpriced and staff appear disinterested. The place is also looking a bit grubby. The coffe was ok. I will return for takeaway coffee for the convenience, but there are so many better brunch options close by
William Rizk
Menu was great, coffee experience was great although we waited 10 to 15 minutes for table service. When we received the food, a friend of mine was greeted with a lovely piece of hair within the garnish on top of his egg. It took another 15 minutes for them to ask if everything was ok, after complaining about the hair all we received was an apology 'and we would we lost the chef know'. Service was abysmal, another customer in the café was also complaining about when they will receive their coffee, and will never return to this cafe again.

This place was nice for a Sunday lunch feed. We chose it as I had read on other sites that it was child friendly. ... it wasn't really. There is a courtyard but it is multilevel so not really safe for smaller children. It also only had a small collection of pretty dirty toys. I wonder if it changed hands since the reviews I had read as it looked more appropriate for animals and pets. The food was OK. Nothing to write home about. Would return as staff were friendly and coffee decent.

Had breakfast here and the all day menu is pretty good to have on a Sunday. Coffee good, decor clean and uncluttered, had the lamb salad with goats cheese and pomegranate and it was decent value, but lamb was a bit dry and maybe over shredded but still tasted nice. Worth another visit to checkout other salads on the menu.
Izzfizz101
Not bad, good coffee, like the menu and is good to see its simple and available all day. Had the Bircher muesli and was tasty , worth going back to try other items, place was warm and cosy and clean design.
Yu Qing
A good place for breakfast, with wall-made coffee, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. The place was a little hard to find, but delivered in terms of taste and food presentation. The meals were slightly overpriced for the quantity that me and my friend received, and we would have appreciated more for the price that we paid, however the lamb salad and halloumi&mushroom brushetta were delicious. Am not opposed to returning to try more of their food!<br/>

I always been here for the beautiful lamb salad and Latte is nice. To have a cafe with my friends In the backyard is enjoyable especially with the sunshine ... It is worth to be here. I like the boss who is kind.

With a relaxing and warm atmosphere, Lady Melville is the perfect place to go for a Sunday brunch. The service is fantastic, with a friendly yet unintrusive demeanour. <br/><br/>I ordered the pulled beef burger and boy, it exceeded well beyond my expectations. The poached egg was perfectly cooked (often the egg white is runny rather than just the yolk) and avocado aoili was to die for. The pulled beef had to be one of the tenderest I have ever had and the brioche bun was crispy, yet not too the point of playing tug of war. I requested no pickles, because even avocado aoili can't make me love that strange vegetable. Coffee was fantastic and the food came out really quick.<br/><br/>Lady Melville is refreshing in its ease and authenticity. I have been to so many Cafes that try a little too hard to be unique and stand out. In seemingly doing the opposite, Lady Melville has left a memorable mark on my tastebuds.
Vegemite Girl
This place is cold and draughty. I arrived earlier than the rest of my party and would not have stayed had meeting here not already been organised. Service was friendly but very slow (both food and drink). Meals arrived at different times- 30 minutes apart. Meals were well presented, however the toast serving is an absolute joke. Also, it might say mug sized, but a teacup is not a mug.
I Hate Cooking
Visited this cafe after a recommendation by a friend. Must say I was disappointed by a couple of things, waited some time for my meal and then I had finished mine before others at my table were served theirs. The meals are well presented and reasonable portions except for the toast. The slices of toast were the smallest that I have ever come across. The profit margin on serves of toast is huge so give a reasonable serve. I requested a HOT mug of coffee and was served a tepid mug, requested it be heated up and got it back the same way. Waitress must think that I am stupid. Overall was ok, but don't know that I would bother returning.

This place has really improved over the last few months. I'm not sure if it has been taken over or just had a rollover of staff, but those working now are much more friendly and helpful (unlike the original staff who ignored all customers and just chatted amongst themselves) and their barristers have really improved. The espresso is reliably good now (as opposed to reliably bad, burnt and way too long when the cafe first opened). Hopefully it keeps on the improve as it's one of the few cafes in the area.
FoodingAroundMelbourne
Awesome cafe in great location. Broad menu. Avo smash was delicious with goats cheese and crispy bacon and the caramelised banana with pistachio jaffle also fabulous. The cafe seemed to go and go right out the back with lots of options for where to sit. Little kids play equipment out the back also.

Excellent customer service. The "green lady" was divine, good portions. The chocolate milkshake was absolutely fantastic! The only downside is the price.

I'm bummed I forgot to take a picture!<br/>The food was excellent, tried the single origin coffee after speaking to a waitress and it was excellent <br/>I had the Duke fritters with salmon.it was  well presented, perfectly cooked and delicious to eat!Sooo yummmmmy.<br/>The service was excellent, we had two cheeky babies at our table who made a little mess and the waitress  were so helpful, definatelly will be back

I got the Calamari Banh Mi, it was so fresh and tasty. Chips don't come with the food, you have to purchase them separately for $4, that is very reasonably priced for great tasting and well fried chips. The portions are big, the atmosphere and space is quite lovely, staff are cheerful and friendly and the coffee is good. Great cafe in Brunswick.
Kathryn Louise Price
Worst service got ignored while the waiter serviced everyone else behind me then when it was my turn walked away no "I'll be right back" just like I wasn't there. I walked out without buying my coffee as I don't think I should be treated like that as a customer. Poor effort on customer service!

I ate here on New Years day 2016 as not much was open, it's also our local place and we never ate here before.<br/><br/>Both my wife and I were very happy with our meals. My wife had a Quinoa/Kale and lamb shoulder salad which she found delicious and the serve was very generous. It was too much for her to eat and was able to take the rest home via take away container.<br/><br/>I had the cheeseburger and fries. The cheeseburger was juicy and tasty with melted cheese and mayo-sauce. The fries were krinkle cut, not a huge fan, but can accept based on the quality of the burger.<br/><br/>Both meals met our requirements of tasty, delicious and satisfying food and we will come back again to try something different.<br/><br/>Glad to have a local cafe that does good food
Matthew
I actually created a Zomato account just to recall how bad this cafe was. The tables and establishment itself was filthy, looked dingy and there was no menus or price listings given. Not to mention basically walking through the kitchen to get to seating, tiny meal portions (as seen on other patrons plates) and the soaking wet floor. I would assume that a regular Milkshake would be a staple for any form of cafe in Melbourne, but it seems like it is too difficult for those at Lady Melville. What I was given as a substitute was nothing short of a disgrace. It was what could be described as half a teaspoon of Nesquick in 100ml of milk in a filthy old-style glass milk bottle. When I went to pay I was greeted with a $3.80 price tag which left me speechless. I may as well have gone to the supermarket and bought a 2L bottle of BigM  for the equivalent price. I will never return to this shocking establishment and do not recommend it to anyone. Steer clear.

Nice cafe at the corner , had fresh OJ - was really good. Sir cramble for brunch - love it 🤗 scramble eggs mix up with a bit of chili, simple but yum.

Great coffee. Went to lady melville for my morning coffee love the relaxed vibe. Perfect latte will be back.

I have been to Lady Melville numerous times since they opened, hoping that things would get better, since it is my local cafe, but unfortunately things have only gotten worse. The serving sizes are small, the food itself is average and the staff are a little stuck up and unobservant. When I went this weekend, the courtyard wasn't even opened and there wasn't many people dining in, only getting take away coffees (which are great). All of the staff have changed, even those in the kitchen, so I am wondering if it has been sold? Hopefully some changes will be made, because I really want to like this place!
Carolyn Stewart
After reading other reviews of Lady Melville I now know that it just isn't me who appears to be an invisible customer. On arriving, to meet a friend for breakfast, the staff member behind the counter stared even harder at what she was doing, as I tried to catch her eye by standing in front of her, so I gave up and went out the back to find myself a seat. My friend arrived soon after and, without any prompting from me, told me how she had stood at the counter while two staff members ignored her until one looked up and then shifted sideways so they could greet the person standing behind her. My friend, who had never been to LM before gave up and walked through to find me. <br/><br/>The waitress then came and managed to take our order while staring down at her notepad and making no eye contact. When my friend made a light hearted comment that we would have sat on the banquette seats but they were a bit hard on the bum the waitress looked harder at the floor and ignored her. So we stayed sitting by the open door of the kitchen. I'm beginning to think that the seating is more about moving people through rather than customer comfort as a few cushions can't be that expensive can they? With all wood and hard surfaces the noise level is also high.<br/><br/>My friend ordered toast and coffee and I ordered bircher muesli and coffee. The waitress bought a basket of jams to the table and only removed the completely empty jam jar, with a sullen expression on her face, when my friend commented that it was empty. My bircher arrived and was essentially cold porridge with yoghurt on top and some sliced strawberries. With no grated apple, pear even a nut or some hone It was bland. All of these ingredients are what makes bircher different from cold porridge. The waitress delivered two of the smallest pieces of toast I have seen. I really do not understand cafes that skimp on toast as bread is one of the cheapest ingredients and requires such little preparation so why be so stingy? The coffee was fine. We left as soon as we had eaten and went home to my friends where she finished her breakfast and ate more toast.<br/><br/>If I was the owner of this cafe, reading the frequent negative reviews, I would be really concerned about my cafe. There are so many good cafes with friendly, very competent, friendly staff, in Brunswick why would you bother to come back again? I certainly won't return, despite, like a few other reviewers, being excited that we had a new local cafe. I only live around the corner and really wanted to support LM but just can't. LM staff could learn a thing or two from staff at Maddox, Foxtrot Charlie and La Paloma where they actually like their customers and seem aware that without them you don't have a business.

Went into today for a Sunday breakfast with the family (kids included). <br/><br/>I ordered the lady M cheeseburger and the wife ordered a shakshuka (I think that's how you spell it). I found both amazingly delicious! We ended up ordering banana bread afterwards as well. The coffees were at a good standard, I personally can't differentiate too much between types of coffee but it definitely got the job done. Both food and drinks came out at a fairly quick time given they were so busy,  we were not waiting more than 20 to 30 mins for food.  I reckon peak time is around 11am for them as when we arrived there was only one spot left. <br/><br/>I found the service great as the waiters and chefs on the day were friendly and caring to both the wife and kids (probably the most important thing for me). Also a massive plus that the kiddies were given coloring pages and plenty to do outside. <br/><br/>Will be making this a regular trip on weekends.
Matt Lawrence
Food was tasty I had the sir scramble but the serving size was very small especially considering the $17 price tag. Service was ok but drinks took ages to come out. Doubt that I would return.

Lady Melville is a very nice cafe with good food. I recommend the 'Brunswich' and the coffee was nice when we last visited. It can be a little expensive which is the only reason it does not get top marks from me. The outdoor dining area is great on a nice day.
TOT: HOT OR NOT
The owners (who have three kids) have thought of everything when it comes to kid-friendly dining. There’s a back entrance via Bakers Parade which leads into a sunny courtyard and down the centre is a pram ramp complete with a grip mat. On the fake grass under the stairs they’ve set up not just one but two toy kitchens which Lady AB had great fun with for about 30 minutes.
Taniacandido
I have been here twice and both times were amazing. I got the French toast jaffle both times and it was so incredibly amazing. The best version of French toast I have ever had! The service was good - even though it was super busy, we were seated straight away and the portion sizes are quite large. The hot chocolates are great too!!
Tiana
Finally good to have a decent brunch place in brunswick, walking distance. I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews out there. But I'm living locally, this place is a little hidden gem, when you go into there, a spacious area and warming decor bring you what you need for a holiday; the calamari roll is indeed a secret surprise, I like the coffee and the delicate feta with smashed avocado dish(Green Lady). I recommend this place!!
James
I can empathise with the poor reviews here but I don't think it's all that bad. It's definitely one of those places you have to be a bit assertive at but I've found the staff to be mostly friendly just very chill so this might come off as impolite. The food is good though, yes it's a little pricey and they by no means compare with LoLo and Wren in terms of quality, it's not a bad local. However, they should be reading these comments and improving their service and offerings.
Sonia
Don't believe what you see. ..so on the surface this cafe appears to be kid-friendly-high chairs, colouring utensils, toys etc. However, the attitude of the staff reveal another story. They seem to 'tolerate' kids to bring in more of the locals but they really don't seem to have the patience or genuine warmth for kids. I am a local and really disappointed. Will give this one a miss and go back to one of the other local cafes with the kid-friendly staff!
Hanna Bentley
Well Lady Melville really is quite lovely. Great food, coffee & fit out, lucky to have this little lady as my local...definitely my favourite local cafe. The calamari banh mi gets me every time, delish! And the take away menu that's available, just call up & order & they'll get it ready for you to collect - making things easy when you're in a rush.

Quinoa Porridge With Poached Pears And Pistachio. Served with almond milk on request, was beautiful

I really, really, really want to love this place. The look and feel is great, the outside area is rare in this area and well done. The staff are OK (some excellent, some average) but the food. Well. Average. I have been here three times now, not willing to rate and review until I've tried a few things but now I feel I can. 1st big mistake - 1 piece of toast with the scrambled eggs and bacon. Really. 1 piece? You can even fit the eggs on it. 2nd big mistake - tiny kitchen. The poor cooks are jammed into this space. It's no wonder it's hard to get awesome food out of there. Don't get me wrong, the food isn't bad. I quite liked my vanilla rice pudding, but it lacks finesse. Everything just lacks a bit of finesse and with so many great cafes in the area you can't get away with that. However the coffee is great. So although I wouldn't come here for a meal. I would definitely pop in for a coffee. If they just tweak their food this place could be great, but with a tiny kitchen it might be hard.
Madamcafebeing
Unfortunately 'client experience' left me wanting and with so many quality places in the area I won't be back. Cute place, nice ambience, friendly staff, nice coffee. Their Avocado choice on the menu sounded good but I didn't want eggs so I asked for minus the 2 poached eggs. Nothing on the menu about 'no alterations' no advice from the waitress that I would be charged full price just the same. In any case the toast was hard and cold. If there was more than a teaspoon of goats cheese mixed through the avocado I would be surprised. Came with dukhuh seeds and some fancy petals. Overall didn't hit the mark and to be met with such inflexibility and be told I would have to pay full price even though I didn't have the eggs was a bit hard to swallow.
Andrew Harris
First time here, even though it's only a 10 minute walk from home. I really wanted to like it, the pictures of food, and the buzz they've been trying to generate, have been quite compelling.<br/>Well, a simple breakfast: coffee, toast, and Bircher muesli should be an easy intro.<br/>Service wasn't woeful, just slack. You can be casual and friendly, and still run a tight ship. None of the four staff at the front greeted me, or even seemed to notice I'd entered. Wasn't offered a menu, had to get my own, then I just sat for 5 minutes, ended up ordering at the counter. Maybe that is woeful!<br/>Coffee was good. As good as anywhere in the area. Nice tang, rich flavour. I had two :)<br/>Toast with preserves was as promised. Kinda clumsy and undistinguished, though, and a bit cold. I know it's only toast, but a clever kitchen can do something to make it memorable. All I remember was a ho-hum collection of half full jam jars.<br/>Bircher, which is a personal fave, looked spectacular. Tasted like cold porridge. Really. How can that happen? There are new seasons apples in the shops, a Bircher should sparkle with texture and tang. None of that :(<br/>So, don't write it off yet. They've got a good base to start from, and plenty of competition to measure themselves against. Maybe there are other items on the menu, where they show attention to detail. Missed on the basics though.

Never again!. Lady Melville has all the makings of a local gem. Lovely food, great location and friendly staff. I came last week and was more then ready to write a great review until I started hearing conversations from the kitchen. From such a small space in the middle of the cafe, they should realise that their voices carry all the way to the back! I head somebody swear multiple times and they were incredibly rude to waitstaff and other staff members! This completely ruined the whole vibe of the place! Somebody needs to tell whoever is in the kitchen to pull his head in or he will be losing more than just this customer.
Bee.li.elle
Little gem in progress. I've been few times to Lady Melville since they opened, and even though it still need some improvement (but forgiven since it's quite new), it has been every time a wonderful experience. The staff members are always very nice, the food delicious (i have to disagree on the past comment about the fries size) and coffee yum! The courtyard it's the better place to have a relaxed brunch with the kids, they even have a little playground! I'm happy you guys came to the neighborhood, and I'm sure through time it's gonna be even better !
MEL: HOT OR NOT
My favourite space was the sunny front room where coffee machine churns out Lady Melville’s house blend from Zest. The only drawback of the front room is that the teeny tiny tables are wall-mounted, which means they’re squishy and awkward if you’re trying to fit your bottom, your bag, food, drinks and cutlery.

Perfect. Loved everything about this quirky place. The fritter dish was sublime, service friendly and chirpy, the set-up with plenty of space at the back for hounds or prams with brats is well thought-out and comfortable. Lolo also in Brunswick West is excellent as well so the choice in this locale is now ascending to be off the chart. Loving it.

Gone swiftly down hill- very dissapointing!. I was very excited for a local cafe to open up because there aren't many good cafes in Brunswick West. The first two times I visited, it was very pleasant with good food and friendly service. However, yesterday I went in for lunch and things had clearly gone down hill.<br/><br/>I ordered the sticky pork brioche bun, which according to the menu came with a "pork crackling chaser". Upon arrival, it turned out that the pork crackling was actually those artificial puffed pork crackers that you buy in packets in the chip aisle at the supermarket. It was most definitely NOT pork crackling! <br/><br/>I also ordered a size of fries, which costed $6. The first time I visited, the fries came in one of these sizeable red baskets they serve their burgers in. This time however, they came in a tiny bowl with the aioli dish INSIDE the bowl too taking up 1/4 of the space. The amount of fries was absolutely dismal. It was about the same amount as you would get in a small fries from McDonalds. It was absolutely ridiculous for $6, and they have clearly drastically downsized their fries without changing the price. See picture.<br/><br/>I am disappointed that such a promising cafe has become much worse over the last couple of weeks. I had thought they would continue to get better and better as they settled in, but unfortunately it seems something has gone very wrong with management.<br/><br/>Also, had to get our own menus, chase up a bottled drink that never arrived and staff seemed much less happy than previously.

Just ok. I am not a local and drove out here specifically for a late lazy Sunday breakfast based on great reviews. The food and coffee was good, but I had to call a waiter for absolutely everything. Can I please have; water, a menu, can you follow up on my coffee, napkin.. If the cafe was packed it would've been different. I won't make the effort to come back

Quick visit but positive. Dropped in for a quick coffee and cake. Enjoyed the iced coffee and the banana bread was well above average. Very busy which was a good sign, intend to go back to try a meal.

Coffee with banana bread. Both coffee and banna bread were good. A bit expensive for banna bread but still tasty

Welcome addition to the neighbourhood. Great new 'local'. Just what we have been waiting for along this strip. Good coffee and yum breakfast, had the shakshuka eggs which we're delish. Nice fitout. Looked like the locals were enjoying it when we were there. Will certainly become a regular. Welcome to the neighbourhood.

Super happy you guys are here!. Just what we needed around here. A great cafe with a terrific vibe, well-rounded menu and awesome coffee! Super kid friendly, passionate staff who will iron out the nerves and kinks with time, and a plan for a courtyard to cater to the bikers and pram pushers. Glad you're in town - we'll be regulars for sure :)

Yum. Had the avo smash with eggs and a fresh juice for bfast and it was yum! Waitress was a little uncertain on the menu but being opening weekend and all that can be forgiven. The place looks good too and I will certainly be back for more.

Poor service. Ordered a long black a got a short black. Can't work out if the "theme" is rustic or just obnoxious hipster? Food was ok but didn't match the description on the menu! Staff were really flustered and obviously inexperienced. I'll give this place a good 6 months before I go again, practice makes perfect right?....

Fantastic addition to this area, friendly staff, and a lovely courtyard. Menu has a great variety - I had the smashed avo with bacon and it was filling, and good value. A few teething issues, but will be back for sure
