I had such an amazing evening. The bingo was fantastic and the food was fricken amazing!!
Perfect balance between a nice country pub with some very serious Brunswick sewed in. Doesn't get much better than this place to me.
Fantastic bar man playing good old Beatles tracks, so attentive and friendly, decor stylish and warm with fire sizzling. Burger specials were cheap and far from nasty! So tasty. Great little venue
The food here is sensational parmas are massive and the gnocchi is unbelievable
Great local pub! The roaring fire and friendly service make this a great place to get away from the winter chill. Roo special on a Monday night for $15 is a large serve and great value.
A cute little hidden pub just opposite Barkley Sq. There was live music being played and the feel was very Irish. We ordered the daily specials- 2 parmas for $12 each. Mine was vego. Food came out quickly and the delicious food was gone before we knew it. Chips overcooked however. Loved that my vodka lime soda came without a straw. Will be back.
This is a fantastic pub, especially now on winter as they have the best fireplace! Great friendly staff, different food specials every night of the week and a really great selection of beer and wine- we had waitbait, ribs and slow cooked beef cheek - delicious! Great food and pretty nice atmosphere!
I like this place. I like it a lot. The stuffed stag head has a hat and sunglasses. It's an old pub with a modern twist, and open fires and a warm feeling. The food was a let-down, though. We both had the Guinness braised steak pies. They were dry and the beef wasn't braised enough.
There is a huge smokers' beer garden and a non-smoking equivalent. Brilliant!
Nevertheless, this review won't affect the Weston's well-deserved trade, but hopefully it will be taken as constructive criticism.
I go here all the time with various Brunswick friends and it's always been really friendly service and good atmosphere. The fireplaces in winter are wonderful! I can't wait until winter, I will come and snuggle up. Had nachos there a few weeks ago and they were soooo yummy. I was a bit surprised because nachos are just nachos, they are a bit better here or at least they were when I had them!
I’m gonna admit something from the jump this week – I love the Charles Weston. Even though it isn’t quite on Sydney Rd. I’d still consider it the best pub on Sydney Rd. It has a great backstreets local charm coupled with multiple open fireplaces, friendly staff, live music, board games and a solid craft beer list, I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve spent many a Satuday and Sunday arvo wasting away the hours playing Jenga by the fireplace.
Been here a number of times and it's now our favorite local. Never had a bad meal. Love chicken schnitzel, fish and chips, and roast chicken tacos. We've always had friendly service - very surprised that other people have encountered rudeness. Highly recommended
Been a few times and it is a good local pub, a lot of people don't like the service but it its friendly and prompt which is all you can expect for a pub like thus, food is good, menu is quite diverse for the setting, good atmosphere over all pretty good
I love the dimly light front bar with the fire going. The haloumi burger is always fantastic and the bar staff always friendly.
Although it's no longer my local I frequently return for a gin and tonic and a meal here. Long live the Charles Weston.
Love it. Crazy to see some negative reviews on here because my experience has always been lovely. Tonight my friend and I came for the $11.99 roo and wine and we were not disappointed. Yummo food, great service and a warm and cosy atmosphere. Definitely going to be a Monday night thing especially in winter. The two open fires are a huge plus!
I came here with a friend of mine for lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon, and the place was almost empty.
It had a relaxing vibe, and the only staff we talked to was pretty friendly.
I was a bit sceptical about my upcoming meal as I ordered kangaroo meat served with lentils and Beetroot. I don't usually enjoy lentils and either do I with beetroot, but I was craving kangaroo meat and wanted to try something different.
Plates came out quite quickly, and I had the best time for the following 20 minutes.
Iam talking about a delicious meal, with a meat cooked to perfection.
Very nice. I'd go there again, and would totally recommend this dish, as well as the tuna steak, that was very nice too!
Always good. I love the sporting club, whether it is quiet or busy. The staff are a little slow sometimes to serve, but always friendly and relaxed. The atmosphere makes you feel comfortable which is probably why all the patrons are friendly too.
The music every time I go always pleases and the haloumi burger is amazing. A great place to go for a meal. Thanks guys.
Great place for a quiet drink and good food. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, quiet during week busy weekends. Good honest food as well!! say no more.
Love $10 roo and wine Monday night :)

Cosy cosy. The Sporting Club has one of the most unfortunate locations in Brunswick, being lumped facing the carpark of a shopping mall, but it's a really lovely place. The staff are very friendly, theres a pool table, and the atmosphere and interior is so cosy on a winters night - especially if you come here with a group in the dining room and land a table near the fireplace.
Only minor whinge is that, temperature-wise, I'm always freezing cold here! Turn your heater on, please Sporting Club! I've also had a couple of averagey meals - the burgers and the chicken are quite nice but then for the same price I've been disappointed by meals such the calamari salad, which was essentially calamari and cherry tomatoes on spinach leaves.
I tend to leave with the impression that I've just eaten a meal I couldve made for myself at home.
I love this place! The staff are really nice, and the food is great. They have two for one meals before 6pm each night. There's live music, outdoor seating and heating, and a fireplace at the bar inside. You can bring your dog too! Five stars.
Good $9,99 ROO&WINE monday deal! Friendly staff, lots of space, good beer or cider if you don't want the wine. The meat was very nice, the veg a little bot cold but I didn't expect anything perfect for $10! Cheers guys!
Had to do some late shopping at the mess across the road and ducked into the pub. Had the vego plate to share. Fantastic selection. Bargain price too. Coopers on tap in handles went diwn easy too. Highly recommended!
Tapas!. Despite it's name and off the beaten track location, I found the not-so-sporting Sporting Club quite the hidden gem. Myself and some friends went this Thursday- which turned out to be two for one tapas! The Pea and Halloumi Fritters were to die for as were the Crumbed Mussels. For a main I had the Roast Chicken Breast which was served with creamy mashed potato and crispy green beans. It's obvious the chef knows his stuff! I found the bar staff down to earth and well informed on the products behind the bar. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the live music was just lovely. Definitely will come here again!
Paella Tuesday is a relatively positive night all round, however they should probably rename it to Risotto Tuesday. The idea of all you can eat is something I fully support, and thus I shall return. Cheers Sporting Klurb!
Great little pub. Went there a few weeks back and the meals were great; came back a few weeks later with a completely different menu and it was even better. Highly recommend the beef and pork meatballs and the crumbed mushrooms from the tapas menu. My husband had the calamari and the potatoes which were to die for. Give it a go!
The sporto! That local that makes you glad you live round the corner. Open fires in winter. Awesome staff, awesome music and chilled atmosphere. Amazing food that is always good. Friday night relaxo
Worth the wait.. I just happened to visit the Sporting Club with a friend to see a band but to eat there was a definite bonus.
We ordered the paella expecting it to be served within a reasonable amount of time since we had limited time to eat.
It was disappointing to wait 40 minutes but this was nearly all forgotten when it arrived.
Served in the pan it was cooked in there were 6 neatly placed large mussels placed on top. It was still steaming hot and smelt amazing. It is more than enough to share between two people with reasonable appetites and would be similar to paying for two meals anyway.
It would have definitely been even nicer if we had more time to enjoy it.
Great local. Finally found a place in Brunswick with
A) A pool table
B) A fireplace
C) Good food
D) Good craft beers
Not Bad, Good Vibe. A nice retro look with a decent beer garden, good ambience, BUT, no Carlton Draught on tap, so had to move on. Boutique beers are fine, but surely one tap of Carlton wouldn't hurt.
Bargain price paella and easy conversation. A quiet corner pub set off the hum of Sydney Road and trying not to notice its proximity to a mall, the Sporting Club has a slightly down-at-heel, relaxed vibe, and in winter the scent of woodsmoke from the open fire permeates the air. The paella is very good for the price - the seafood version is a generous size and doesn't skimp on quantity or quality of the seafood. No seafood extender here! Could perhaps have cooked slightly longer to really bring up the crust on the base of the pan, but all in all a great value meal in a quiet pub where you can eat, and talk, and not have to shout over loud music or crashing dishes. A hidden gem.
Had our 40th/wedding here on the weekend and could not have been happier. Great food, top choices of alcohol excellent and professional service. Thankyou Sergio and crew
What a delightful surprise, the tapas authentic and yummy and the mains where great. We'll definately be recommending this one to the locals.
