I wanted to try their garlic Turkish bread and took 3 breads which were 4$ each , to my surprise a single bread was too big for atleast 2 people to complete it. This is more than worth for the money I paid and I just had with my home made curry which I could say is a perfect combo for anything. They had lot of variety of breads and gozleme and Turkish deserts too. Completely a great experience .
This place is an institution. Always does not disappoint.

The best word to sum up my experience at Alasya is VALUE. The delicious kebab was quickly prepared. What more do you want? I really appreciate that they use Turkish bread in their kebabs, really gives it a hearty taste. If you are in the area looking for a mid night feed, drop by Alasya.

rating 3.5Bought the lamb gozleme for take away, chuck it in the oven for a few minutes. It was crispy and a little chewy. We also had the turkish delight, it was too sweet for us.
Our go to when on Sydney Rd. The restaurant is spacious, the food is always consistent, tasty and the portion sizes are great! Very family friendly.
It’s been a long time between visits and not much has changed! The food is good, the prices are good but the decor is, well, the same as ever.... old.
we had dips (disappointingly there’s no mixed dips available), a mixed meat plate, a salad and a doner and yoghurt plate... bread is a small bit extra these days but unlimited and yummy!
Five of us spent $60 and walked out full and content.
For good old school Turkish, this is still a great place to go!
The Turkish coffee is pretty good! It's different compared to the normal melbourne coffee. I love this more tbh. haha.
Got the sweets and the baklava tasted average, not as flaky and fragrant from Balha's haha. The stuffed turkish delight was really a delight! Chewy and not overly sweet.
Will be back to try more of the sweets. hehe
I visited Alasya after seeing the reviews. It was worth it and totally authentic Turkish place bustling with people. The ambiance is next door, large specious and regular. The staffs are busy, large menu of food.
We orders the chicken shis and lamb kofte. The food took time to be served and I must admit the taste is heavenly. Very well marinated, filling and fresh. That justifies the time taken. I will recommend this place to everyone.
Will surely visit again.

First time here - amazing food and fast service, great value for money too! We had the dips, delicious! Bread was always refilled, fresh warm and soft. The meat was delicious too! Will be back for sure!
Had a birthday party with 40 guests fed with the set menu + 1 vegan + 1 veg. Closed one section off for us. Allowed byo all drinks. Very reasonable price. Staff extremely attentive and provided us access to fridges plus cake serving.

We ordered vegetarian delight, the mixed grill, and some dips (babaganush, humus, ajwar) everything was amazingly delicious - the only thing I would do different is replace the ajwar dip as it's really hot and does not have its own flavour (basically a chilli sauce). Service was excellent, and the style of the place is relaxed and vintage (which is perfect).
We were craving a HSP which wasn’t on the menu but they still served it, with lamb and chicken and a can of Coke for $17. Not bad and full of flavour.

An expansive, family owned Sydney Road institution that has been there for 20+ years! Decor is embarrassingly late 70s/early 80s with the walls covered in retro wood panelling and the overhanging street shop sign lit up by light bulbs, but I've been here many times now with friends and family for both lunches and dinners and have never once been disappointed. Having a huge shop space means Alasya can easily accommodate large groups of diners. Staff are generally friendly and polite, but sometimes might be a bit slow to fulfill requests or slightly forgetful, although it's generally not a problem.
Would highly recommend Alasya; it's my "go to" for Turkish food in Brunswick. The Alasya pide Turkish pizza is a definite must try (especially with a bit of lemon juice squeezed over). The stuffed eggplant/capsicums are also lovely, smothered in the special Alasya sauce. The delicious Turkish bread is always fresh, pillowy and chewy (often comes out served warm) because it's baked daily in-house.
Hands down one of the BEST Kebabs in Town. The portion, the flavors, the break, and the meat - all perfect! The dips are great too. This restaurant never disappoints.

The food is top notch, high quality. So expect to get your money's worth, because it's worth every penny. We ordered the meatlovers banquet x2, and man did it taste so good. There was so much meat on our table we asked them to pack it away for us to take home, because we were so stuffed towards the end. Friendly staff, however the decor is wayyyy out of time, reminds you of the 80's. The shop is literally 4 shops that have been opened together, I guess they grew over the years and kept expanding shop after shop. Everything u get is fresh, hand made and taste devine. We enjoy going to this place for lunch sometimes. The cooking is very old school and reminds me of the kinds of style cooking of my grandma. By no means is this place modern and chic but it doesn't try to be! The service is always good and the food is cozy comfort food for sure and it's yummy which is the most important thing. Portions are good and they do a mean turkish delight. We are just down the road so we'll always go back
Alasya has amazing doner kebabs. So big that we would often split one between two people. Well worth trying out if you're in the area and feeling very hungry.
Great and very spacious Turkish restaurant. Doner plate was tasty with a moderate serving size. Mince borek and pide were very similar in taste. Chips serving was very small - suitable for a toddler.
Does an alright kebab which elevates to N amazing Kebab at 2 in the morning the chicken beats the lamb if your indecisive. And you can order mini Turkish buns in there hundreds for BBQs if you happen to be spitting a lamb!
This restaurant has been around for eons. Been coming here since 2006 and still love coming here. Ita a good cheap feed in the likes of Sofia's. Great for students and unlimited turkish bread!!! Rawr. Best dish ever = Moussaka. The only thing that kinda lets down is the service, they seem to always be understaffed but its forgivable once you start tucking in!
I think this is one of Melbourne's best restaurants. It's cheap, fresh food and while the inside is dated, it certainly has its charms. I always bring friends or family who are visiting for a meal. From the fresh house made dips (cheese and carrot is a personal fave!) to the buttery flaky boreks and the quality cuts of lamb and chicken, I really can't fault it. Definitely a must try while in Brunswick.
Had the chicken HSP. The meat was done really well and the sauces had a really good balance. They add the hot meat onto the cheese so the cheese is melts onto the chips by the time you dig in.
I am a return customer, the, Meat Dolma is something I will nip in to just buy takeaway (amazing, simple and delicious). Had a late lunch there today, service was slow, but the Meat Dolma, Russian Salad, was wonderful, the Pilav was nice but not fantastic this time. Shared a Mixed Doner Kebab plate, everything but the sliced beef/lamb was wonderful, the sliced beef/lamb tasted odd, so we left that, after mentioning it to the wait staff., Had some of there AMAZING turkish delight, Rose and Mint flavour,(drools slightly in memory). Sadly I can't eat walnuts, and as all the Baklava, has mixed nuts including walnuts, I can't have that, but my companions did, and loved theirs. So a mix, some was amazing, some missed the mark, wasn't during a regular meal time. I personally like the laid back, simple decor. And well if you havn't gone, give them a go, and try one of there 2 person minimum banquets
We all went here for Mother's Day lunch and were impressed with the food. The meat was tasty and tender, the dips delicious and the service by waitresses attentive even if they were run off their feet. The bill was 100% correct and after reading some of the reviews I was dubious but having now given it our own go, none of us could complain.
PS: We loved the jugs of Pepsi Max - it was fizzy fresh and filled with ice to make it cold.

Who ever wants to try the best kebab in the Melbourne come here they make their on breads and all the other ingredients are very fresh too with finger licking sauces you can't go wrong too bad I live far I can't come here more often .
If you want a great feed and value for money, this is the place. The food is reasonably priced and if you do not judge a book by its cover, you will enjoy this restaurant. Staff are friendly and attentive. We travel from Portarlington to eat here, as it has been a favorite place of ours for years.
Retro decor and charming staff add to the delightful experience but it is all about the absolutely to die for food!!! The kofte is melt in your mouth juicy and the chicken sis is charry, remarkably juicy perfectly seasoned deliciousness! The rice pilav and sides were excellent - the cabbage dolma was another stand out and every entre is perfect! Just great had to write a review straight away hope this place never goes it's like it's from a golden era!
As usual a busy place and tonight was no exception. In fact so busy that they confused the dips with meat platter giving us the meat platter before the dips. The cucumber dip was so fresh one could really taste the freshness of the cucumber.
The meat platter was nice and tasty and not overly salty. Meats were cooked to perfection with the rump strips very eatable.
Although the service tonight was not up to the usual standard one could excuse the waitress as they were run off their feet.
Overall a good eating experience with a few hiccups.
best kebab I've had in my life... The bread is perfect and it's so filling but I ate the whole thing because it's that good! and I've struggled to find the perfect falafel and I have found it at alasya!
The food here is good. And there is sooooo much! So much to choose from, really generous serves and all of it was really good.
Don't go here if you are looking for white linen service but if you are after quick Turkish fare then this is the one. Serve sizes vary - which means variety is the order of the day!
Some of the highlights - love the cabbage rolls, fried halloumi, spinach dip and the hummus were winners and the lamb doner with yogurt sauce. There is also enough bread on the table to feed a small army.
And you will not break the bank. So cheap it is insane and you can BYO also.... Great for a cheap and cheerful group option.
TIPS ON HOW TO ALASYA

1. Hunt down a table. Wave someone down for drinks order. This waving down theme should be modus operandi for the rest of your evening.
2. Try to stick to dips, mains and sigara boregi (filo rolls stuffed with cheese or other yummy things). Other menu items should be treated with suspicion, as most are grossly over or under cooked, or over or under seasoned.
3. Do not get offended by:
a) dirty tables
b) crying children
c) 50/50 chance of rude, sassy waitresses
d) daggy decor or
e) strange difference in menu price vs. actual price of menu items.
4. Eat lots of bread. It's unlimited with dips ! !
5. Go with people. Order many dips. Laugh loud.
In summation, Alasya can be so great if done properly. All the best and choose wisely ! !
Always good, Alaysa turned on the deliciousness for us tonight. Sunday night service is fast and friendly. The chicken doner is possibly even better than the lamb, although the lamb is fantastic. And baklava. Yum!

Diner from Adelaide- Regular diner. I cannot describe the authenticity of the meals at Alasya's! It has a great 1970's vibe. I urge all tourists and locals to give this place a try. It won't hurt the pocket either.

For the night owls.. Another one of those 1980's Melbourne, time capsules. Opened in 1979, it doesn't look as if much has changed since 1986.
Food: For the price (which is good), the food is surprisingly good. The selection of dips is excellent, but be prepared for large portions. (8)
Ambience: Kitschy honey pine wood panels the walls, dirty old menu pictures from the 1970's - this is old school Melbourne at it's best. However, it suffers from the same issue most dives in Melbourne have - the bright lighting can be over bearing after a big night out. Fluorescent lighting in restaurants should be BANNED!!! (7 or 3 depending on your sensibilities).
Service: Can be up and down. Sometimes you can be waiting a while for somebody to take your order. Also if you want some of the more "exotic" items on the menu, be prepared for them not to be on that night (I've been going here for years and have found this to be consistent). (5)
Value: Hey, it's Turkish, it's cheap. Plus it's open till very late most nights. Not pricey by any means (8)

Great value and great food. Meat was so tasty and full of flavour. We ordered one of the banquets for two people and had heaps of food left over to take home. Had the next day and was delicious! Would definitely come back again. Service was good too.
Went on a Saturday night and had a great experience! Affordable, family run venue and lovely service. Kebab meat, home made dips (beetroot dip was a stand out!) and unlimited warm and crispy Turkish bread… what’s not to love??
Delicious and very filling. It took a bit if time but it was soooo worth the wait. The lovely waitress was also very nice and helpful when we couldn't finish our meal.

Alasya Restaurant is a must-try Turkish Restaurant on Sydney Road in Brunswick! We had an absolute feast when we were there and enjoyed all the tasty food we ordered.

The starters were all amazing and really helped set the tone for what about to come. The dips were delicious...the hot & spicy dip was our favourite dip and paired with that unlimited Turkish bread, it's just divine. Dolma & Pilaki are must try too.
The meat selections were also very tasty and delicious and we can't go past that Chilli Rump Strips and Sis Kebab - spicy, salty, full of flavour, and the meat was also very tender, absolute bomb!
And both Turkish Tea & Coffee plus selection of dessert (they gave us 2 baklavas and 1 coconut biscuit) to close off was also heavenly!
Overall, we enjoy eating at this restaurant and can recommend to anyone look for something new to try or explore. The price seems very reasonable too and the service is not bad at all. Definitely going back for some more to try the kebab as we hear some good reviews too.

Have been coming to Alasya for over 30yrs now and every time it has been a treat. Super flavoursome food and the staff are excellent We now live in rural Vic so have to drive 300km for our favourite Turkish food, well worth the drive.. The waiting staff tonight were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Can't wait for our next visit.
