Review Thai Nee Cafe - Brunswick

Every time my partner and I eat at this restaurant we are satisfied. We have ordered many of the dishes on the menu and have never been disappointed. Delicious food, affordable prices, lovely staff, and a nice ambience make it a great place for a relaxed meal. We are regulars.

We had a table of 11 last night and 4 have had food poisoning, me being one them. The service was atrocious , main meals came out b4 entrees and one of couples had to wait 45 minutes for their entree ! Absolutely appalling food and service.

Great Thai place. Very accommodating and offers an unpretentious and relaxing experience. Quality is good. Vegans should feel welcome too.

One my favorite Thai places in Brunswick, good quality Thai with friendly service, fireplace for cozy winter evenings. The restaurant is always busy on weekends so make sure you book in advance.

Lovely, freshly cooked Thai food. Cheerful wait people. If you like a local vibe and you enjoy a simple Thai meal this is the place for you.
Nick Binnington
Really great, authentic Thai food. We often get takeaway and it's always prepared quickly.

A classic cheap eat. Lovely staff, very good food. Quite charming, unrushed, a very pleasant atmosphere. Not large, bookings essential on Saturdays.

Thai Nee, you are a great, friendly restaurant with tasty food, but your serves are always too small and lacking in the things that we pay for - vegetables, meat etc. Check out other restaurants in the area and you'll find bigger serves and more of the above.

I have been there quite a few times and the service and the Food is always good and fresh and so tasty. It doesn't matter what you order, it all tastes good. Am working my way through the menu lol.

Our fave Thai place. Lovely food, fantastic staff, really reasonably priced, and that open fire just makes it so cosy.

I live in Brunswick east and we have a variety options of thai on this end or lygon. Do yourself a favour - I don't want to name shame the other thai restaurants on this end of town but thai nee cafe trumps the other thai restaurants in a variety of ways. It is absolutely delicious... They are generous with the amount of protein in their meals, use actual fresh vegetables (no frozen b.s.), are very fast and friendly but also ...icing on the cake... Have no surcharge for using card (savings account). I recommend the signature dish on their menu... Dont remember what its called. Spot on.

Always lovely food. Love the garlic dumplings. Love the price. Just overall yummy. Most impressed last Saturday when they handled having me in a wheelchair with a broken leg. Not a prob. Got to love that. Thanks Thai Nee staff.

Cozy, cheap and with friendly service, this little unassuming Thai cafe was a surprise. Had the red duck curry (from specials) and it was beautiful. Pad Thai was also lovely with a nice zing of lime. Four of us ate our fill (three entrees, four mains plus rice and roti) for $100. Really good value.

We have been getting takeaway from Thai Nee for over a year, living nearby we have the choice of two other well known Thai restaurants but neither are as good or authentic.
Thai nee is a family run, friendly and cozy place with an open fire in the winter with amazing food that never disappoints. Stand or dishes include; Vegetable Curry Puffs, Pad Thai and Massamun curry.

Really good food, and cheap. All the entrees r great. Last night had satay & prawns. Green curry great. Spicy seafood on sizzling platter awesome. And BYO
Rita
Nice, cosy restaurant. Service is good with no fuss. Food is average for thai food. Would have preferred a few more strips of chicken in the curry dish. Roti was ok, a little oily but the satay peanut sauce was lovely. Considering the prices, one cannot expect too much, I suppose. BYO is terrific.

I've been coming here for over 10 years! Fantastic food - fresh, tasy and good cuts of meat. Highly recommend beef with cashew nuts and the chive dumplings! Best Thai restaurant in Melbourne!

One of my favourite Thai places. The food is fresh and well-priced. We have had some mix ups when ordering take away but when dining in, the service and the food is great. They even have banquets that you can share that offer unlimited refills on food. Can you say overload of spring rolls?

One of the many Thai outlets on this end of lygon street that just didn't deliver for me. There are a lot of choices on this particular strip, so it would be wise to shop your service, portions and quality accordingly.

Food ordered:
Spring rolls, fresh and good. Yellow curry, great curry sauce with mild spice and creamy coconut flavour. I just wish there was more! Fried tofu with ginger, the sauce was nice but the tofu was quite soggy. Coconut rice, this was very sweet and was just too little to share as a serve of 3 seemed more fitting for 2.

Ambience:
Feels like a home style restaurant with well spaced seating (so your not crammed next another diner). They were very accommodating for us as we didn't have a booking but we're sat straight away regardless. The servers were very friendly, but they obviously needed more! The wait time was very long. This is the main reason for a lower rating.

I am definitely willing to give it another chance, but it would be unlikely due to the other Thai restaurants on the same street.

Pretty close to authentic as it's going to get. This place is my new Thai restaurant. Good clean eating and consistent. Love everything on the menu. Try and come when it's quiet so you get served quicker.

Food is fresh and reasonably priced. Service is always very friendly and attentive.
Only down side is they only accept cash payments, this makes it inconvenient and it also make me think the staff is paid cash in hand.

Favourite this restaurant in Melbourne, no frills Thai ;) my favourite dishes include the red and yellow curries... Just as good as it's more popular neighbour Thaila Thai with a lot more ambience and a relaxing atmosphere ;)
Simone
A great little Thai staple! Yummy food, lovely staff and an open fire. Perfect for a week night take away or cosy winter dinner. Nice fresh ingredients.
Great thai food with plenty of flavour. It has a great family atmosphere with great service. Been coming here for years and will continue to do so. If you are around the area and need a Thai fix definitely make this place your next stop

E and I had the rare treat of a dinner date at Thai Nee. We ate well, we were treated well, and we admired the street art outside.
Hide And Seek
Whatever your plan of attack, the dishes are abundant with fresh and flavoursome ingredients. Crunch into some curry puffs, share a sizzling seafood platter or salivate over a selection of aromatic curries in mild, medium or hot. Take a trip to Thai Nee by train, tram or tuk-tuk – just make sure you take it.

Nice simple food. Popped in on the way home from work for a meal and always pleased at the simple yet tasteful meals. will be back.

We booked Thai Nee for my niece's birthday and were delighted with the way the upstairs room was prepared for us. The food was delicious as always and service was fabulous.

Finally has eftpos. Hooray

Have to be the most reliably best Asian food in the area.
Cheap and always fresh and fab.

Sooo disappointed- I would not recommend this place. I didn't know thai food could taste so bad. I got a take away and had to wait 30 mins. I ordered massaman curry and coconut rice which were both so tasteless. Roti bread was very oily and only 1 piece. The veg currypuffs were good however and so was the satay sauce.
Chichken
Small Serves and slow service. OVer priced for the size of their dishes and the service was very slow. Had to wait for 45 mins to get our first dish and twenty mins for the next one. Food weren't bad though. Friendly staff. Don't go there if you were in a rush.

Hipster and family friendly. Beats the competition down the street hands down for flavour and value. All generations catered - from comfort food to the scorch-my-throat set. Great use of herbs, conscientious response to food allergies and excellent service. Nana, the kids and hipsters can rub shoulders and enjoy.

Food is always fresh & beautiful, so authentic & always consistant which is rare.. Love it!

AWFUL. Had some friends come from Perth for a holiday and took them to this so called restaurant. I was totally embarrassed. We had to wait one and a half hours for the main course. Portions were small and very average taste. I asked the waitress if it was licensed and she didn't have a clue what I was talking about. people who came in after us were served first. Had to keep going to the counter to ask for our order to be taken. Dishes were placed on our table with no smile or any comments at all. Staff were very unfriendly. When I paid the bill the waitress just took my money, gave me the change without saying anything...no thank you. The worst place I have ever been to. Don't bother. Go down the road to Thala Thai for a proper Thai meal.

Fab u lous curry puffs!!! The rest very fresh and tasty too!!! Very busy for Monday night too.

Great food and great value!. Yum! Authentic thai food. Great taste, ingredients were fresh, friendly service, warm ambience, really great value for such great food. My friends and I were very satisfied and would definitely go back there again!
Fuffafly
Tom yum tasted somehow watered down- this was the unanimous consensus amongst the 6 of us dining there last night. Other dishes were quite bland (with the exception of the strange fish which was rather delicious). Service was at best indifferent. Served were very small. Wouldn't bother returning.

Nice food. We had dinner here the other night. Nice curry puffs, salad and stir fries. The price was reasonable too. Staff were friendly, good service. There also have a fire place that gives a very cozy feeling during our visit! Will come back!

I'm a bit on the fence with this place. Food is quite good, service is a hit and miss. No EFT which is really annoying. Their coconut rice is really yum but it seems they don't handle diners with allergies well. I have eaten there quite a few times but both myself and my partner had the runs after our last visit so we won't be returning.

Love the Steam Fish, hand made fish cakes and Prawn pad thai. fresh 8ingredients, i will recommend this to my friends and family.

I have been going to Thai Nee for over 10 years, I recently experienced very poor service and will never return, food is great, service is not, a real shame.

-----10 Mar, 2013-----

A Bad experience.. We recently went for dinner and were very disappointed with some very poor service, it took us over 20 minutes to be served, another 20 to get our starters and when complaining about not receiving our mains 40 minutes after that were told "Oh well we are busy, to bad" we then left. Have been going there for 12 years and will never go back, service and quality has slowly declined over the last 18 months, time for new Thai.

When I feel like Thai. Real Thai food.
Fresh, exotic flavors and made from scratch.
The whole fried fish is my favorite as well as the chicken satay which comes sizzling, and the tofu wrapped prawn/chicken. So many other things I would love to try. And did I mention it's open Monday's?
Phil
Value for money - dishes are tastey and well presented with fresh ingredients. As the name suggests the restaurant quite small but comfy, we went on a 42 degree day and the aircon just couldnt keep up so it was quite hot in there. There are alot of really poor thai places and this is not one of them - I will be back!

Thai Nee Prices. For what you pay for a meal here, it's got to be one of the best Thai restaurants on Lygon. Simple tasty Thai dishes. They make a great Tom Yum.

Happy face. My face was happy with what got dished up here. Friendly service, a nice atmosphere (even an open fire on a colf Friday evening!) and straightforward, tasty and satisfying Thai food. Not oily, well-seasoned, fresh ingredients and generous serves. The only downside was the vegetarian spring rolls which were a bit light on flavour and slightly tough. But the mains were lovely. Will happily return.

Best Thai. Tasty, inexpensive food and good service. since 2006 been regularly attending this restaurant and have to admit if you want Thai then this is the place.

Great little restaurant! Family and I are regulars and love love love the food! Best entries... Rotti, skewers, chicken in banana leaves and coconut rice a must! Great price!!!
Adam Frank
Great tasty food, friendly staff, great price - beats Thalia Thai down the road that's for sure (even tho they are both great) give the pad sew ew a whirl!

Cash Only. Cash only at Thai Nee.
Wonderful whole fish and Pad Thai. Serves can be a bit small and the food is always great tasting and never disappointing.

Great meal with good friends. Friday night at 8pm the place was full with diners, as well as people collecting take aways. We had booked for 6 and were squashed onto a small table in the middle/back of the restaurant. It was by the fire which was lovely though it did get hot after a while. Took a bit longer than necessary for us to have our orders taken but when the food arrived - we had ordered the Buffet A - it was in abundance and delicious. Great food, lots of it. Would definitely visit again, but probably as a smaller group - a four or a two.

Thumbs up!. Service is good, food is small servings, however, I never leave hungry. Have had a bad experience with raw chicken in a meal but have been back since a few times and everything has been great. If you like seafood, they do a whole fish that is to die for.
Jemima
Best pad Thai in Melbourne! Home made entrees are amazing. Cosy family owned business makes you feel just like home.
LG
Terrible service. Frozen entrees. Mains took over an hour and came out twenty minutes apart. Maybe take away would have been a better option.
Yumbo
Best roti ever!!
Omnomnom
Delicious. The best roti bread and coconut rice in Melbourne, without a doubt. Cosy restaurant, be sure to book for a seat. Especially charming atmosphere in winter with an open fire place and delicious warming food. Easy takeaway option.
AJ
Take away please. The most consistent thai take away in brunswick. the restaurant itself is tiny and awkward but the food is great. only problem is they dont deliver.
Ed
As the name infers, everything is tiny - tiny space, tiny dishes, tiny portions. The food isn't big on flavour either.
