Review Bismi - Brunswick

Authentic Malaysian Indian food here! Spice level is not Australianised, it packs a punch. Biryani with mutton was really good and oh, the teh tarik..hits all the right places. The restaurant opens from 5.30pm-11pm, but they do takeaways and online orders till about 2am in the morning. Awesome for Malaysian mamak sessions or late night teh tarik cravings. :D Definitely will go again!

Really tasty food! I order this and surprisingly the portion is HUGE! Everything is tasty, warm, and fresh! My fav is the fried chicken.. rich of flavors and nice texture! Must try!

The food used to be great but it is getting bad to worse. The waitress can’t speak proper English. She could not comprehend our orders. There’s no customer service. It take long time for the food to be served. Inside the restaurant it look like I’m in a third world country restaurant. The decor is appalling. Why does it take long to split the bills? In America it’s done easily as well as other restaurants. The hand wash basin is dirty and there’s no paper towel to dry your hand.

Bismi you gave me one dreadful experience with your food. Out of the 6-7 curries ordered none of them held taste. Too much oil in each curry. Less chicken pieces more tomatoes in every curry. Not one good thing about the food that I could appreciate. Not worth the wait. Thanks for the awful experience. Not coming back again.

Went two times, both times ordered biryani, rice was over cooked, served me fried rice instead of dhum biryani which was a joke. Waited 20 minutes and what I got was Lamb which was barely tendered and had very two small pieces which was disappointing though, will recommend everyone not to try their biryani ever. Will not again, the worst experience ever, the girl charged me more than listed price by saying sorry prices gone up recently and what ever I ordered I got reply sorry we do not have that thing at the moment. Waste of time and money with them. very dump and unprofessional staff, prices does not worth food totally waste of money, very disappointed. Do not try them. And a thing to comment, the rice were dipped in oil it looked like they were deep fried not dhum rice.

Under new management with a change of name Mezban Restaurant. Service is great, comes with a smile and some good advice on the spice/heat of your order The food is fantastic and the serves are larger than normal. I had the butter chicken yummo and loads of chicken (it was not all just gravy). Very cost effective Will be a regular on my list. Will be back

Like what others said, service is slow, took about an hour to prepare the food. Appetisers like chicken 65 and and chicken lollipop are amazing, hot, tender, packs great flavour. The butter chicken and some curries also were great, tender and had good flavour. But other foods like their seafood, noodles and fried rice were disgusting, even though I have respect for food. Prices are great, seating and ambience is good. Most my family members didn't like this place at all, but I would come again if I ordered only large amounts of chicken 65 and lollipop chicken (because they are Appetisers not meals), or butter chicken and naan.

To be honest, didn’t even want to give 1 star. The cleanliness and the overall appearance of restaurant is disgusting. The smell inside the restaurant is horrible. Come on man, u just need to renovate the whole place and keep it clean. This is Australia and moreover you are serving food in there. You are ruining the reputation of whole south India and Malayasia.

The best authentic South Indian restaurant in the North. It was a Saturday night and we were hogging for some good and spicy South Indian food, and suddenly Bismi Thamizh Unavagam (Bismi Tamil restaurant) crossed my mind. We went there around 12 am and ordered two plates of briyani - Chicken and Goat. Though they were about to close the restaurant, the owner (Abdullah) was kind enough to wait for us to have the briyani at the restaurant. The briyani was so flavourful and yummy which reminded me of good times of having briyani back home in Chennai. I was unable believe that I could get such a good briyani at 12 am in Melbourne. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to try some authentic South Indian dishes, especially briyani. Try them and you won’t be disappointed!!

Service has really improved - great Briyani. Today I had the Chilli Chicken Briyani again ... was superb - Chicken juicy and tender and perfect level of spice and accompaniments. Well done Sir !!

A bit delayed service. Really good food with South Indian touch. Their best is egg omelette. The price for food is decent enough. Over all it was good.

Terrible service at this place, I ordered a drink with my food, had to wait for 10 minutes AFTER I finished my main course AND dessert before I got it because the waitress refused to cancel it when I was paying. To top it off, she even got the drink wrong and didn’t end up having what I ordered so they gave me a different drink.

I have ordered mild curry but it was horrible and extremely spicy 🌶
Customer service is a -10
Also the place was not clean as well
Will definitely not recommend to anyone ever
I feel guilty for not remembering what this particular paneer starter is called. But trust me this was heaven. One of the best Indian starters I and my friends had. This was the panner version, and my friends bought the chicken starter. We loved and ordered the starter dish second time. As we loved this over the main curry that was served on the night the porathas were little oily but it was very tasteful.

The service is little bit slow, which could be improved.

Wonderful place to dine in. Exceptional customer service and finger licking delicious food. One Of my favourite restaurants indeed. 👍👍😋😋

Absolute pleasure to eat here, had chicken korma, parathas and fish 65. Service was excellent , the food took some time but the staff was apologetic about the same. Will surely visit again.

Regular customer, at least once a fortnight. Known by the owners and waitresses. Fish 65 a regular order, but this time the fish was off. Declined the chef's offer to remake the dish "with the same fish". Restaurant refused to take the off fish item off the bill. Never returning.
Yummy 😋
Very friendly chefs. Open untill late night. They do accept to customise to orders to suite vegetarian options. Sometime they do accept some off the menu items upon request for regular customers. My partner is a fan of biriyani and chicken 65 here and i did ask them to deliver it around 12 in the night on his birthday and they were really happy to serve even during those odd hours. This is the kind of exceptional service that they deliver to regular customers. Love you guys

O t _ _ worst dinner ever . Waste of money.why the hell your running this restaurant? How long will you guys take to serve just 2 parathas (30 mins)? Especially when there is no customer in the restaurant and not even worth a penny your signature 65 biryani tastes badand chicken Tikka masala very bad. One of the worst tamil restaurant in Melbourne. Waited for 1 hour for a meal when there’s only two customers in the restaurant.Worat customer service ever the girl who was working there din even bother to apologise.

Ordered Chicken Biryani which was nothing but steamed chicken on rice. Chicken had the smell of being boiled or steamed and wasn't even marinated decently. The biryani showed up after about 20 minutes waiting. The Palak paneer came so late that I had to get it packed. I won't recommend this restaurant.

Some of the curries are tasty some are not! .. Crab pepper curry has crabs but the crabs contain no meat.. Pepper Prawn curry is good mix it with the Goat Biryani and they are amazing! ..

I ate there with my dad and it was alright, the service was okay and the food was good. It was very spicy and we were warned that it was very very spicy. I might go back.

Vibrant Indian flavours, plenty of chilli, incredibly cheap... This is my favourite restaurant in all of Sydney Road. Fish masala is incredible.
I see some people here have had problems with the service, but I've eaten here about 10 times and had no complaint. Maybe not the quickest, but I'm not usually in a hurry.

Excellent food !!!dragon chicken must try very hot and spicy. Service was quick and easy.....................................................

Wow yummy Briyani .. Service is quite slow but worth for waiting.. I like to suggest the management to improve the service.. But ambience is too good

Horrible service, waited 55 mins for our meal, which was only 2 biriyani. Not recommended at all. After long time wait cold food served. ??? !!!!! !!!! //////
The Beard Eats
Terrible, terrible service. They forgot orders, brought out cold/frozen food, and ran out of rice! There was only one waiter working for the whole restaurant, he forgot drinks, plates, and cutlery - even after being asked several times. At one point, after waiting 45mins+ he even stopped looking at us when he served other tables. Would not recommend.

Worst service. Takes too long every time. Smelly. Never to visit this place ever again. There are better places in Sydney rd. Never go there wen hungry.

Worst Restaurant Ever :(. Ordered 2 takeaway dishes and waited nearly an hour.
There were 5 people in the restaurant - not busy.
Prices were cheap but meals were tiny.
Won't be back.

Deeeelish! I've been here many times, when it was next door and across the road. Food has been always consistent, but now even better than before. The roti is fantastic, the biryani great and ther curries packed with flavour. Well worth the wait.

Amazing Thosai (Dosa) & Murthabak. First time tried this restaurant for having really authentic South Indian (+Indo Malaysian) dishes especially Masala Dosa (Thosai) and both me and wifey were very impressed. Dosa was very good and importantly (coconut) chutney and red chutney and the sambar was very delicious. We had tried Dosas at the (North Indian) restaurants @ Dandenong, but this was even better and authentic. Also tried the Chicken Murthabak after sampling a few in Kuala Lumpur and honestly impressed. Next time we will try the Biriyani. Tips- call before you go for it cause it gets over very soon.

You might have to wait for a bit for your bite which in our case was about 10-15 minutes but its worth it.
Scorpioninrain
Good food despite too long of a wait. Food was really good, authentic Indian flavours. But the wait was just too long. Waited for 40minutes for our food, there was about 5 tables at the time. It wasn't the first time, but all this happened to us during dinner time, after 8pm. Perhaps service during daytime is better.
Prince Kumar
Disappointment. Although the food was great the cups were dirty and the waiter was rude.. Would recommend for take away only!
James
For those who know and love their rotis, teh tarik and indian/malaysian food one of the best places in Melbourne. Food may take a while but it's well worth the wait. And it's reasonably priced too unlike many of the larger wannabes that are just overpriced and plain ordinary.
DJ
Pretty good for the price. Probably not the best idea eating this kind of food on a 40C evening in a restaurant without aircon, but that's what I did.

The dosa I had was tasty and crispy... although the onion and chilli filling pretty much just falls out as soon as you move it on the plate. The dips that it came with were also very nice.

The cheese roti was also tasty although the cheese aspect was difficult to detect. It was served nice and hot and also with a pot of dipping sauce.

I ordered the mutton biryani as well. I very much doubt this was a genuine biryani, this was a small pot of rice with some slow-cooked (and boney) mutton pieces and a boiled egg mixed in.
In any case, it was tasty enough, but the bones in the meat made it difficult to eat.

Overall, the food was nice and the service fast. You'll probably need some extra serviettes though.
Joanne Nasser
The staff were friendly, the food wasn't too bad. But had to wait 35mins for butter chicken.
