Review Tabet's Bakery - Brunswick

Evangelos Nicolaidis
Neighbouring A1 had a massive line so thought we'd try this place out. Glad we did โ€“ The pies were delicious, the staff very friendly and welcoming, gave us some free mini manoushe too. These little bakeries are what make a walk down Sydney Rd so enjoyable.

Very nice food and friendly service.

Never had a Lebanese pizza before. But it makes for a perfect breakfast. Half lamb, half cheese was fantastic ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ‘

Best food every single time, never disappointed and we feel embraced by the staff especially Sonja who cared so much about her customers she asked our names and has never forgotten. Love you Sonja and Tabets Bakery!

Exceptional food, reasonable seating area. We had breakfast there, Zatar with fresh veggies and Jubna. Both were yummylicious. ๐Ÿคค Oh, they also serve coffee, so complete breakfast package. ๐Ÿ˜Š

The best bakery in town, super friendly staff and the food is absolutely amazing and fresh. I find it much better than A1

Best spinach cheese pie ever for 4.50! Changed my life so delicious... tabets has my heart

Friendly service and fair prices (good for students)! The decor is no-frills but comfortable. They let me chill out here for an afternoon when it was pouring outside and I didnโ€™t want to ride in the rain. Thanks guys!

Best cheese and spinach pie and meat pizza in Melbourne.
A1 does not compare.

Standard Lebanese bakery items made here and can i say nice and fresh. Love the mince meat pizza, with chilli and lemon juice and my all time favourite is the spinach pie which i prefer over the spinach and cheese pie. The flavour they get into the pie is incredible with the lemon tang and sweetness from the onions, i could easily eat 3 or 4.

Staff are friendly, food is authentic and delicious, premises are clean.

Weโ€™ve been coming here for over 20 years. My favourites are the meat pizza and haloumi cheese pie. Always crisp and fresh with great flavours. Never greasy.

They have a small seating area, and no, itโ€™s not a fine dining establishment, but the prices reflect this - very reasonable!

As we no longer live nearby, I usually get one hot item to eat on the spot, then get a bunch cold to take away for down the track. They freeze and defrost just fine and taste great when heated in the oven at home. I make a point to visit whenever weโ€™re anywhere nearby.

We placed a fairly large order for delivery with Uber eats and it was absolutely unacceptable and completely inedible. Food was cold, looked nothing like the advertised pictures, 'extras' were missing from orders, and some dishes were not delivered at all. Additionally, there was a LIVE BUG in the lettuce of a chicken pack. We will be requesting a full refund and never ordering from here again.
EDIT: and we can't even call to make a complaint as the listed number is not connected!

If you like cheese and bread then try the cheese pie ๐Ÿ™ƒ filled with halloumi cheese and enclosed by a sweet bread ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Life simple pleasures! Cash or Card!

They can also cater for functions mini versions of all the foods there so you can mix and match. Normally $30 for a dozen!

My go to place for a cheat meal ๐Ÿ™ƒ

Two words, halloumi pie!!! So cheap, so delicious, excellent to kill hangover cravings. Spinach and cheese is delicious too :) yes the service can be a bit moody but so cheap and delicious I love it.

I have to admit that I always go to A1 bakery (sorry about that), but as they don't accept cards I had to find another place for once and that's where I found Tabet's, tucked in only a few shops down the street. They had a $5 minimum for eftpos, which it was cool, so I had a spinach and cheese triangle and a turkish meat pizza. The bread itself was beautiful and I was overall happy with my choice. I will alternative between the two now :)

Thank you for having me
Michael
The ultimate hangover food and the best Lebo pizzas in Brunswick. Highly recommend this place. Their falafel wraps are better than A1 as well.

When the thought of battling the queues and general A1ness of A1 baker down Sydney road is too much, the solution is always Tabet's. The kind of place where they say "I'll get it next time" when you haven't got the exact change* (and this despite the fact that, although I've been coming here for years, I'm by no means a regular*). Tasty Middle Eastern style bread with cheese spinach , lamb and the like. My favourite here is the herb zataar pizza.

*The owner wouldn't even take my money when I dropped it by on my way back. Obviously they're doing alright despite the stiff competition from A1.

100% the best spinach and cheese pies. Also delicious felafel. All the staff are heaps friendly. The original and best of Sydney rd Brunswick with none of the fluff.

"...AUTHENTIC, RUSTIC, HEALTHY, GOOD, QUICK & CHEAP ~ WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT..!"

Early this week, stopped by TABET'S BAKERY, Sydney Road, Brunswick for pastries to take home..
ย
Bought 3 x halloumi cheese pide, 3 x spinach triangles, 3 x spinach and halloumi triangles - they threw in 1 for free..

Paid $30 for 10 pieces - all individually wrapped in paper and placed in a cardboard box - a big box full..

It was stinking hot at 10am - they were flat out - no time for BS or 'palaver' - all locals in the place - they know where to go..

I love the authenticity of the stuff here - the spinach is marinated in a vinaigrette - you can taste the lemon.. vinegar.. oil..

The smell of the pastry is awesome - that something so simple can have so much deliciousness..

Visited Tuesday 23 Feb 2016 for stuff to take home.

Ordered the halloumi cheese pie and the sausage and vegetables pizza - less than $10 for two people. Food came out fast despite there being a long queue. Nice pizza dough, ingredients fresh and tasty (they could've put more sausages). Pity they didn't have kishik pizza (my favourite) and the service was not very friendly. Used to go to Akaar Bakery but it was closed down and this will be my next future go-to place for Lebanese pizza.

Awesome Lebanese pizzas, breads and wraps. Very economical and tasty!

Cheap and Delicious. Whenever I'm in the area I have to go and get a meat pizza and cheese & spinach pie.

So tempting to have a freshly baked spinach and cheese pie every morning when the tram stop to work is right out front. Those and the halloumi pies are my favourite and such a bargain at only $3 each. If you buy 10, they'll throw in one for free. Love this place!

Amazing food and unbelievably cheap!. Phenomenal lebanese oregano pizza - so tasty and $1.50 only! Spinach and cheese pie, the dough to die for! We almost had a meal like under $10! Unbelievable really. Overall loved the place.
Cons: Found the lemon juice a bit too much for our taste in the spinach pie. You could request the lovely lady as per your taste.

Tabets has always been a #1 favourite for us as we live just around the corner but recently it has gone down hill. Can't tell if owners have changed but staff definitely have and they are not nearly as friendly or considerate with the pizzas/pies. While i am vegetarian and like most of the options, the cheese and vegetable is my go to favourite, but the last 3-4 times I've ordered this there has been way too much cheese and it is never cooked enough, leaving it to be a soggy unenjoyable mess.
Like another review, I have asked them to leave it in longer with a rather sour reply. I am not ready to give up on tabets just yet due to its history and affordability... But please guys, pick up your act!

Hot Cheese Pie. I usually make my way to A1 Lebanese Bakery when i'm in the mood for a hot cheese pie but unfortunately they were not open on Boxing Day. My craving was too strong so I went down the road to Tabet's (I've never been before as A1 has always exceeded satisfaction) with a friend. I got my cheese pie and left the store, when I went to take a bite I noticed it wasn't hot which defeats the purpose of having a cheese pie due to the fact it's exactly the same as eating a block of cheese. I like my cheese melted, especially when it's Haloumi. My friend and I made our way back to Tabet's to ask if they could quickly pop it in the oven for a couple of minutes. I advised the woman behind the counter that my cheese pie was not hot and if she could heat it up. She turned to the other woman behind the counter who snatched my pie off me without a word, only death stares, and threw it in the oven. They then very obviously proceeded to talk and laugh about me to each other in their native language, like I had just demanded they give me the world. It was an awkward 2 minutes while I waited for my pie. The woman then re-wrapped it, gave me a final death stare and gave it to me, again without a word spoken. This is the stark contrast to the customer service that is willing provided by the staff just up the road at A1 bakery, even though every time I enter their store, they are flat out, making it harder for them to provide the genuine, welcoming service they do. I'm always greeted with a smile and always leave a very happy customer and full of hot cheese pies. So to sum it up, I had a shocking first and final experience at Tabet's Bakery. This is due to the fact the staff are disgustingly rude and I left with a cheese pie that tasted like a sour attitude.

Lebbo pizzo for Bukko. It's so nice to be able to get Lebanese pizza anytime I want now. Tabet's isn't super-special in that niche, but it's decent and cheap. $3 for a meat pizza? That's not much more than I paid for a single slice of 'za in Vancouver, Canada, and Lebanese pizza is so much tastier and more exotic. There's a Domino's next shop down Sydney Road. How does it stay in business in the face of such a worthy alternative?

DISGUSTED, WON'T BE BACK. I have never been so disgusted in my entire life.

On Monday Nov 4th, I called them up at 4pm and asked what time they were open till, to which the lady replied 8pm and she confirmed it twice for me during the phone call.

So as a family we all made plans to go down to Brunswick because the pizzas are nice at Tabet's (I won't lie).

We got to Tabet's at 6:50pm and they had closed the shop early because they felt like going home early that night.

As a result, our plans had gone straight into the tip and we had to go to Alasya's down the road who showed alot of empathy for us and actually negotiated a meal deal for our family to make us happy.

I WILL NOT be back at Tabet's, that is for sure. They are a disgrace to Australian food shops, how dare they do that. Will be making a formal complaint to the relevant authorities also.

Wonderfully fresh, tasty food and very reasonably priced. Don't expect amazing service but the food will keep you coming back again and again! My tip is the vegetarian platter

Good value Lebanese. Lunchtime take away.

Quick, welcoming service, oven work in front of your eyes, magnificent subtle spices and really satisfying food.

Fantastic value.

Take it from a Lebanese who drives across Melbourne to eat there, this place is the real deal better than the others hands down..tip - bring a fresh cut lemon and squeeze it over your cheese spinach pies or zatar!!

Aawesome .... This place is awesome .... the quality doesn't fault as a takeaway or as an eat in...
Maseh
Amazing food, cheap and great service!!! Full of flavour compared to many other places visited where food was bland. Definitely worth a visit!!

Tabet's is the best, hands down.. Whether it be a meat, cheese, spinach or sausage Lebanese pizza. You will not be disappointed.
Ice Man
If you're looking for a good atmosphere or proper waiting staff, you're definitely in the wrong place. If all you want is the most delicious (and cheap) food in the area, then this is the place to be! Great cuisine, tasty food, and most importantly, open late nights so satisfies any craving!

The spinach pie is awesome. So is the plain meat. Not as trendy as the others around but soooo tasty.

Easy to review. Amazing food, friendly service, fast, cheap, consistent. Don't walk past it!

Better of the lebanese pies. I have tried pretty much all lebanese pie places in brunswick/coburg area. This one is probably the best. Love the z'atar bread with salad.
Slow Sunday
Everytime I go to Brunswick these days I pop in here for a spinach and cheese pie, meat pizza and pretty much everything on the menu. I've been eating Tabets for 10 years and have never been disappointed.
Denise
Best bakery in Brunswick. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu and can't fault a thing! Beats the other bakery's on Sydney Rd by far. Produce tastes FRESH!!! Love this place!

If you're even looking at this, you should go to Mancouche instead. That's really all there is to say.

Ummmmm. So had lunch here today shared a spinach pie and sausage capsicum and cheese pizza(there might have been more stuff on it but i can't recall it was the one all the way to the left of the menu) with a friend.

The consensus seemed to be that we thought it was tasty but some bites were a bit too salty especially with the spinach and cheese pie. Stopped to have coffee at A1 and it seemed a bit nicer and fractionally cheaper (maybe like 50cents less on some things) will have to give them a try next time i'm in Brunswick.

Opens at 7am!. The best cure for a late night, if you can drag yourself out of bed.
Nothing like a cheese & spinach pastry and a strong coffee to make all right with the world again.

Had a scoopon and got spinach & cheese pie, haloumi pie & the meat pizza. For $8. Great value. I loved spinach and cheese best, with some lemon. haloumi was average, but pizza was great too. We have already been back, one week on and now have our friend hooked too. Even at full price it is great value, tasty food. Glad my boyfriend works on that side of town or we would be missing out!!
Boo
Only the best spinach and cheese pastry on syd rd. If you rave about the a1 and walk past tabet's you're a fool.
Black-sun
Forget A1!. Been going here for years. Best vegetarian olive pizza. No surly service like A1!
