Review Chicken On Lygon - Brunswick

Felicia Chiew
Cozy little eatery, super friendly staff and reasonably priced food! Generous portion and my food came pretty quickly too. Got the Chicken & Mayo Roll with snack combo, the bread was perfectly toasted and crisp, yum! Fries are seasoned and tasty too.

Mostly enjoyed the chicken and sides we'd taken away. The chicken had a nice glaze on the skin with good flavour. The meat was moist and nice tasting. The potato and cream side was nice. The Greek salad was a bit blah as were the roast vegetables, ok but blah. The gravy lost the point though it was gelatinous. I can't stand gelatinous gravy.

The very antonym to "homely atmosphere". Nothing but noshery. Hygiene is under question. Preference to uber-drivers than to real clients...

Truly brilliant experience all-round. Best customer service I have ever had, great hospitality and more importantly the food was amazing. Love the variety with the chicken. Highly recommend.

Usually very pleased with food from this shop. Today I ordered the Greek Salad and 1/4 chicken. Greek salad very fresh BUT chicken was so dried and scrivelled that I couldn't cut through it let alone chew it or swallow it. Very disappointed!

Just ordered a Parma and chips.. worst meal I have ever had, took half an hour to come out and it was cold and dry. All the tables where dirty and sticky. I would recommend no one to come and eat here. Save your money, there are heaps more chicken and chip shops on lygon street that are heaps better and cheaper aswell!

I have been dining at Chicken on Lygon for 2 years now, ever since the change of ownership and the new menu has come out everything has gone down hill. Not only have they increased prices but the quality of food is very poor. The chips are always under cooked and the 1 time I asked for them to be crispy / cooked longer they were all burnt and uneatable. The chicken in the burgers / wraps always taste old and a bit off and the bread is never fresh. If you really want to see great chicken go to the new Fat Fried and Tasty further up lygon. Let's hope the new takeaway stores opening beside Chicken on Lygon get them to pick up their game.

Lovely coffee and lovely service! Not to mention, the chips are one of the tastiest I've ever had! Will definitely be coming back (:

Nope. This place used to be awesome. No more. We've given it a few tries since the new management took over. But last night was the last straw. Ordered a whole chicken cut into 8. Got chicken pieces with three wings and one drumstick! Goodbye Chicken on Lygon.

this quater chicken and chips is sent down from the heavens by the gods for us mere mortals.

Great Chicken Fillet Burgers especially with a little chilli sauce. Service is good and the place has a good vibe. It's a must if your in the area.

Absolutely inedible

Ordered two "southern fried chicken" burgers take-away and was told that they didnt have bacon. No worries - told them to put grilled onion instead. Got home to find that they gave me completely wrong burgers- grilled fillet instead of fried, no onion or any ingredients bar a few spinach leaves and cheese. Tried to call the place but apparently they never answer. Not going there again.

My first experience with them via UberEats was pretty good, only that the chips were a little overcooked. I realise that in this kind of business you cannot please everyone by default, no matter what you do.

However, this time I gave instructions as to how I wanted the order and they followed everything with great care and detail. Clearly they value their customers and ultimately that's what matters to me and this is what ultimately warrants such a high review from me.

Trust me when I say this is the only decent charcoal chicken take away shop that delivers to the inner north. Just be clear with the instructions on your order and I assure you that they will follow.

Delicious chicken, crispy, hot chips that were soft in the middle and a lovely, flavoursome gravy. Reasonable prices and really great value for money. Honestly you cannot ask for more than that.

Well done team!
Kate
A reasonable charcoal chicken place. It's no Super Tasty Rooster, but the chips are good and chicken is standard, although I am not a fan of rice as stuffing - it's quite bland. Tried the wraps once, but they came with very little filling and were too loosely wrapped. Dim-sims are noticeably absent on the menu.

The first and only thing I have ordered from here is the chicken and avocado salad - and that's because it's divine. Simple (that's how I like my salads) but so tasty, and great value for money.

Bought a whole chicken here that cost an arm and a leg and was dry as a nun’s vag. No thanks.
You’re better off just going to a supermarket deli.

This is a brilliant chicken shop! The staff were so helpful and their food is homemade and very fresh. We will definitely go back. If you are looking for quality produce and a very reasonable price, I wouldn't look further.

I stumbled upon this actually, like most eateries lately. Look it's a fast food joint but it's actually a good one, nice service and the burger was made just right, fresh buns and beef.. bonus point for presentation.

I ordered the Euro Burger with chips. The serving of fries was just right. Often you have places which give you too much fries you can't find a balance with the bun and the potato.

Great chicken, reasonable prices, different combinations to feed your chicken cravings. I like the fillets with coleslaw and chips. I think they're better than most nandos.
Penguineats
Overall it was a delicious, home-cooked meal that makes you reminisce of your grandmother’s hearty, comfort food. Along with the chatty and caring owners Veera and Charlie, dining here totally make you feel right at home.

Ultimately though, the name Chicken on Lygon doesn’t really do this eatery justice, as it is about so much more than just charcoal chicken. No, the food is not fancy or groundbreaking in any way. But damn, the honest, homely food here definitely gives all these new eateries a run for their money!
Gee
Craving some chicken and chips and wandered past. The chicken was really dry but the chips were nice and crunchy as requested. Had worse before!

Don't know what to cook.....come here. Want a quick bite to eat......come here. All things chicken from burger, wraps and whole chicken. Just like your childhood charcoal chicken but 10 time better.

We are regulars here and come on the nights we can't be bothered to cook. Always get good service and the chickens are always fresh and so yummy. The owner lets you pick whatever chicken you want and will cut it up for you anyway you like. They have fresh salads and roast veggies. My only minor complaint would be the roast veggies are always a bit undercooked and could go another hour or so longer in the oven, but apart from that we are always very pleased.

Clearly the place is under new management, they have had a refurb and are now owned by this real sweet Italian family. The gentleman is really warm and friendly and always makes a point of having a chat. His wife (I'm guessing) is also stocking the fridges with pasta sauces for sale as well as homemade lasagnes and pasta packs (gluten free included) to take home. As a vego I have no idea if the chicken is good but the new salads are delicious and they are also doing frittatas, eggplant parmas and other tasty bits and pieces.I really hope they do well, they are definitely putting a lot of love into the place and trying out new stuff. Just wish they'd get rid of bloody chicken salt!

The Chicken place on Lygon is not as good now under the new management. The Chicken I am eating is really dry and they are stingy with the gravy. I will not be back here. The food is shit.

A decent place, nothing too extraordinary but ok. Looked neat, wrap was fine, coffee was ok too. I will probably come back for some light lunch.

I've driven past this place countless times but never stopped in until now. I was in the mood for some roast chicken and didn't want to cook. They use free range Lilydale chicken, cooked fresh on the rotiserie over charcoals. Nice and tender, with a crisp, salty skin. I'll be back again for sure then next time I feel like a takeaway roast chicken.

Best chicken joint around. Fresh and tasty. With extras like roast veggies, home made strudel, and generous portions. Worth eating in-clean friendly and good tunes.

Been wanting to try this place for a while but can never get a parking spot.
Didn't have much choice of salads or hot sides so ended up getting a grilled chicken southern wrap. Tasted good enough but nothing special for $12.50.
Might go back if I'm already nearby.

Love this place. Great service from John and the team a good every-day-good-value-for-money spot. They have a large selection on salads, Lilydale chicken and baked potatoes

Great Chickens, Great Service.. This place, has the juiciest chicken and the best chips. My GF had a salad and for the price the serving was very generous and flavor wise AMAZING. Will be making this place a regular. Chips are also great

I'm a big urban spooner but never write reviews- however I really feel the need to leave one here. I am a very fussy eater- It's really hard to eat takeaway that is healthy and have people do things the way I ask without complaining. The man who looks like he runs the shop was very obliging- giving me exactly what I wanted without batting an eyelid. The chicken, skin and stuffing was AMAZING, the salad was also healthy, fresh and an extremely generous serving, and the burger my bf got was huge and so tasty! This is definitely going to become a regular when we want cheap, easy and healthy takeaway. It doesn't look like much- but please give it a go!!

Lovely bbq chicken!. Bought a BBQ chicken from this place for the first time today and I can say that it was the nicest takeaway BBQ chicken I have bought in my 43 years... juicy and tender and super tasty... all the other produce salads etc looked fresh and inviting... I will definitely be back :0)

Good quality chips and chicken. I've always had great service, they are friendly and very quick, everything is reasonably priced and of great quality.

Really good value for money. All our food was great and really yummy. The lady working there was really friendly. Don't think I'll be roasting my own chicken again!

Burgers and Wraps. Euro Selection

The owner of this place is a complete knob both to his staff and his customers. The dude is so stressed you'd think he was running the kitchen of a hatted restaurant... It's chicken and chips mate. The chicken is hit and miss, chips are usually pretty average but the salads are good and they do get your order right about 75% of the time.

Great Food But..... Chicken on Lygon has great sandwiches and the roasted chicken is perfect when you are not in the mood to cook and just want something quick. Now for the but, like the reviewer HAH pointed out you actually get what you paid for just not what you ordered. This could be simply corrected by checking the receipt after you pay but the counter person really should be able to ring up what you asked for the first time. Keep in mind the food is excellent you just need to make sure you get what you are asking for.

Great chicken & chips, not so great service. Have been going to Chicken on Lygon for over a year now. They have great salads, chicken, chicken burgers and chips (hamburgers not their strength). However, since the departure of one woman over the summer, it's nearly impossible to order and come out with what you ordered. Time after time a burger is missing, your chips never were entered into the register and even half a chicken (which you discuss at length - in person - how you would like it cut, etc.) never seem to make it into the order and into your take away bag. You either have to commit to being vigilant about checking your receipt after your order, checking your bag when you leave before you get home or (like me) save yourself the stress and call it a day. I may be back, but it's going to be a while...

Alot of people walk past places like this going "oh, no I don't feel like fast food... Keep going" when they're actually wrong. Chicken on Lygon is fantastic for burgers, chicken and chips. I get takeaway from there once or twice a week and it's my favourite takeaway on Lygon Street. The burgers include lettuce, tomato etc. and have seeds on the top of the bun- that's pretty healthy! The chicken is pretty healthy too, you can get a 1/4, 1/2, 1/1 and optional stuffing inside. Ok, so the chips aren't too healthy but they're good value- huge boxes for a small price (you'll never eat all of them) and they taste absolutely delicious. Never, ever had a problem with their food. Recommend it for a huge lunch/dinner.

After moving into the area yesterday I thought I'd get some quick takeaway I tried a chicken wrap with a garlic aioli and it was amazing! Definitely be back

Some days it's a bit of a hit and miss. Chicken is dry and salad bit " overdue". Other times its great. Burgers are always good. Chips are ok. Staff could be friendlier especially the owner who never cracks a smile.

Best chicken take away there is. Best chips, seasoned with chicken salt and always fresh. The chicken is amazing, not dry at all. They have other things available like burgers and wraps. The chicken burger is delicious and HUGE! The service is wonderful, the staff are so friendly. Definitely recommend this to everyone.

Love this place! I live close by and visit a couple of times each week, every time I get the chicken its always so delicious and moist, the rice stuffing is so much nicer than regular stuffing at other places. The chips are salted with proper chicken salt and they must cook to order coz you wait a couple of mins and they're always fresh. I get them with gravy every now and then which is always as it should be. I've had the roast vegies a couple of times which more or less is like a trip to your nan's house for Sunday roast. Beautifull seasoning, have know idea what they do to get the chicken that way but if I didn't work afternoon and evening shifts all the time I'd be in way more often. Yum yum! Tonights take away dinner was absolutely scrumptious :)

The best chicken restaurant, with great real charcoal roasted free range chicken, a great range of wraps and burgers with gourmet sauces, crispy tasty chips, and fresh canned veg free and processed food free salads that knock your socks off. Not your average take away chicken, with swanky cafe decor in house and street tables, porcelain presentation plates for those who eat in, great coffee an some of the best service I've seen in any restaurant, let alone a take away optional one. It takes a great place for me to leave such a review. This place is well worth trying, have been a number of times happily, will be back again and again.

Great value. This is not exactly fast food....

The chicken is slowly cooked over coals and is very juicy. The salads are freshly made and are excellent. The service is always very friendly and eager to please.

It is not your typical take-away chicken joint. Everything is served on proper plates with cutlery, only one aspect that sets it apart from take-away chicken competition.

The Greek salad is a favourite - fresh lettuce, olives, and fetta, and not drowned out with dressing.

We'll be back!
Eclaire
Best Chicken Around!. So lucky to live near these guys, great fresh salads (no seafood extender or canned three beans in sight), juicy chickens with tasty rice stuffing and really friendly service.
The chicken burgers are delicious to!
