This place really deserves to succeed - a great concept and interesting variety of food and drink options, particularly for people who can't drink very much, but want to try several different wines.
The bar is a really warm and welcoming place. The self serve wine dispensers are really unique and the whisky range amazing.
Had a great night with friends and will definitely be back!
Great relaxing place, staff are super friendly and very knowable about their wines, whiskey and cocktails!! The pizzas are spot on! Simple with a twist!!
I love this place! The wine dispensers are so cool and I love the tasting option so I can try a couple before I choose! Also the pizzas are delicious!!
Such a cool place and the staff are amazing! Definitely worth checking out!
I love having the option of tasting a wine before getting a whole glass! Good relaxed vibes. Great cocktails. Fantastic wine!!!
Great place for a relaxing drink with friends, great atmosphere and beautiful staff! Love coming here :)
Thanks to Sally, Ron & Matt for an awesome night of celebrations! Pizza, cheese platters and selection of drinks the best!
Get to Biffs!! 5 stars
I'm genuinely upset that you don't deliver! I now have to order pedestrian pizza instead of your Bellissimo son of mumma pizza pies.
Shame on you.
Great selection of Whiskey and awesome staff. A must visit if you like good drinks and atmosphere.
Come for the self serve wine & awesome beer n' whiskey selections.
Stay for the delicious pizzas & some Brunswick's friendliest service.
Get around Biffs!
Delicious pizza! Delightful wine! Friendly staff! Laid back atmosphere! Love it!
Just called in for a quick beer with a mate and what a lovely bar thank you sally for making it worth while
Incredible wine, great beer, super chilled vibe. Loved it.
Awesome little place stocked to the brim with excellent drinks and staffed by knowledgeable folks.
Great place for a drink. Friendly staff and nice range of grog and nibbles.
Lovely ambience. Great pizza. I really appreciated the self-serving wine options, and the Japanese whisky - though I may be biased ;)
Stumbled upon this amazing wine bar in Brunswick and just had to go in and check it out. With it's hip vibe, and wine on tap; there is a lot to love about this awesome bar. It's an average size space, but there is a funky seating area overlooked by the coolest wall mural. Blackboards list the current wines on tap as well as an amazing cocktail list.
The vibe was chilled, and it was a busy night with a funky crowd. Staff were really cool and friendly, helping us pick our drinks. I had a cucumber gin spritz to start which was so refreshing, and I finished with some amazing wine... secretly because I wanted to see how the vacuum style system delivered the wine to the glass. It was quite fascinating and I would recommend Biff Tannins if you want to try something a little left of field compared to your typical wine bar. I loved it and can't wait to go back.
This is a cool little bar tucked just off Sydney road. Great name! Decor is a little confused with fake plants coupled with cool grungy artwork but who cares. The pizza was delish and the wine machine so cool! A great novelty which served an excellent purpose! We met some really cool people here too - it’s not pretentious or hipster - it’s just cool.
Biff Tannin's is a great little bar tucked away in a leafy through-fare off Sydney Road. They serve up an an extensive selection of wines and whiskies with the aim of creating a cellar door experience. They also have a selection of craft beers and a few bites like pizza, cheeses and meats that you can pair with your drinks.
I dropped by here on a Sunday afternoon, lured in by the offer of $4 pizza with any alcoholic drink purchase. The pizza was delicious although the base was a little doughy. That said however, the drinks here are a little on the expensive side with a glass of wine starting from $11.
What I found very interesting and innovative was they way their wine counter was set up. Its a self-service system where you use a swipe card to dispense glasses of wine from the selection - perfect you are planning to do a bit of wine tasting as you can choose how much to dispense.
The space itself is open and airy and extends into an small outdoor seating area. The atmosphere was very relaxed and service was friendly. I might have to drop by again for that $4 pizza deal.
Cool little find hidden just off Sydney Rd. The staff are lovely - helpful and love to have a chat. The self service wine is definitely a novelty with an excellent and extensive wine list. I do love being able to have little taster glasses so you can try a few different wines! Its quite pricey - all those tasters add up! But the happy hour beer special is very reasonable.
Great little spot just off Sydney rd. Lovely quality pizzas, self serve wine machines with some really good wines on tap. Also extensive whisky range! We’ll be back!
Good delicious pizza, a huge range of spirits and some excellent wine by the glass make this a magnificent Sunday afternoon delight. Staff are friendly, the courtyard location is a plus being removed from the noise of Sydney road and the atmosphere is light and breezy.
Not sure how the concrete forecourt will handle summer temperatures, but I'll be back for sure.
Nice.

The self serve wine machines are awesome! The service is also superb and all the people that work there are so lovely! I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a great night with friends!
This is a great space, hidden away from Sydney road Brunswick, but totally worth finding. Great choice of wine, beer and whiskey. We stopped in for pre dinner drinks and a cheese and meats platter and will be back!
I ❤❤❤ the idea of self serve wine. A little dangerous at times perhaps, but the great thing about Biff Tannins is that an indecisive 'taster' like me can try lots of wines by the half glass and not end up on the floor at the end of the night. Love it. P.S. we also tried their pizzas - perfect complement to all that delicious wine.
The place is in a bit of a strange place a little sterile in the middle of ol European Sydney road, but if you can close your eyes and open them on the whiskey list and beer list you can have the best boilermaker experience in Brunswick. Hopefully it'll warm up in time, good luck guys and welcome to the neighbourhood.
New delight of Brunswick. Knowledgeable staff and great selection!
Had the pizza, a few beers and found the hi tech wine pourers up the back to be quite a nice novelty.
Looking forward to our next visit.
I was really impressed with this bar, its tucked away off the the main street so I was lucky to stumble across it! They have a wide selection of wine and whiskey in particular (including a wine self service counter :o), the staff seem friendly and they serve some food options too, tapas type items and pizza although I didn't get to sample that. It's a nice open and relaxing space to enjoy a drink or two with friends :)
I love the wine, the food and the atmosphere! Cheese platter was definitely a highlight and staff are really friendly! The half-glass options are great if you're driving or not sure what you feel like. I'll definitely be back.
Fab atmosphere! Artwork really creates that brunswick feel. A must for any wine lover! I'll definitely be coming back for that or bartender Matts cute smile.
My new favorite local spot with a great selection of self service wine and a large collection of whisky if that's your thing! Also they have pizza and a heap of cheeses to choose from.
Wine + cheese = ❤
Also the staff members are really nice, attractive diverse bunch who know their stuff.
I'd heard about this bar on a Melbourne wine blog, and I'm so glad I went. The self service wine is a perfect way to try different varieties, and the cheese platter was delicious.
My new favourite bar! The self service wine system is dangerously fun, and the staff are super helpful and knowledgeable about their wines. The cheese and meat selection is great too, with the cheeses being very reasonably priced compared to some wine bars in the city, without a compromise on quality at all.
I started with the self service wine, and ended up having a few cocktails which were great too. The paris cat cocktail was easily my favourite! I'll be back again for sure. Thanks for a great night guys!
Great little place off Sydney road with delicious pizzas and a pretty excellent array of drink choices. I think the wine machines are awesome They actually mean you can you try wines that might otherwise be unavailable by the glass- the machines keep the wine's from oxidizing so there's no risk of the bottle going bad. Means the bar can sell top notch bottles by the glass. Which is a pretty good deal for any winer! The staff also have a really good knowledge of their product too, which is cool as it's nice to know where you new fav shiraz has come from:)
Ok, so went here the night it opened and I didn't want to review the place because I thought there would be teething issues etc. but looking back and thinking about the other places I've been to when they've just opened... I can't help but think Biff Tannin's knows how to operate.
Loved the self-serve wine option. Probably unnecessary and a bit gimmicky, but a whole heap of fun and a novelty. Also had a pizza, which was delicious. Nice crispy base, right amount of cheese, right amount of salami.
Only issues I could see on the night was that the venue is quite small with not that many indoor seating options - works okay for summer, but not sure how it will be in winter. The other issue was that they hadn't worked out the best option for getting people their food (we nearly lost our pizza, the horror!) but I think this is something they realised and possibly have already fixed.
Awesome neighborhood wine and whiskey bar tucked just off Sydney road. Cool and innovative with all new self service wine machines and 'street art' style decor that captures the feel of Brunswick. Good pizza to boot.
Biff Tannin’s opened recently without much fanfare. No press releases, no blogger events, no social media saturation – just a quiet opening in the first week of January down a side street off Sydney Road.
Great little wine bar that's just opened up below our apartment. Seems to have hit the spot for a lot of locals as it seems to be busy almost every night. Unless you live in one of the nearby apartment blocks it would be pretty tough to know it existed!
There's a very good selection of wine and whisky, with a couple of beers on tap. There appears to be quite a few bottled beers in the fridge.
Not entirely sold of the self serve wine. Kind of takes away from the intimacy of the bar tender telling you about your choice. That might be just me though!
Great new addition.
Outstanding selection of whiskey. Some utter pearlers.
There's a wide selection of cheese plates and they come with delightful extras (like walnuts and slithers of apple).
Outdoors space is nice and the tall ceilings make the bar feel really open and give it a nice atmosphere.
Don't be fooled by the bar's choice of name. The staff and the place are not at all like their Back to the Future namesake -- they are welcoming, warm and fun (and clearly love a good wine pun). A self-serve wine bar is a rare breed these day and Biff Tannin's offer this; on average $3 for a taster, $6 for a small glass and $12-15 for a standard glass, with nearly 30 wines to choose from. If you are not a wine aficionado, they also serve amazing cocktails. Oh and they don't exploit the fact that you are probably wine drunk and hungry, but instead look after you. Amazing woodfired pizzas (four flavours to choose from) that are only $4 with the purchase of an alcoholic beverage.
We absolutely love Biff's and can't wait to go again on our next visit to Melbourne.
Great little wine bar in Brunswick. Relaxing vibe and excellent wine and whiskey selection. My only complaint is the food is a bit on the pricey side but the drinks are good value.
Edit: since I was last here they now have a $4 pizza deal with drink purchase which is exceptionally good value.
Small intimate wine bar , seating outside available. Great pizzas
The ambiance in the place is perfect. Great for small and large groups. Very accommodating for the 2 functions I have had there. Pizza are the best value in Brunswick and drinks range is vast. Cannot go past the wine station - swipe and pour!
Great selection of whiskey and wines. The self service feature is excellent and a great way to sample many different wines (you can choose to have a taste, half, or full glass of wine). Very relaxing and modern decor. Friendly staff. Will absolutely be back!
Amazingly friendly staff who know what they're doing with whisky. The pizzas are as as delicious as they look (that is to say, very tasty). Nice relaxed vibe, perfect for quiet evening drinks. Cannot recommend highly enough!
