Review Rezah Afghan Kebab - Brunswick

Andrew P
Family run business, recently reopened after Covid. It’s refurbished and renovated with a lovely feel and atmosphere. The food is exceptionally good. It’s all made over a charcoal fire so it’s got a delicious smoky flavour. The kababs and freshly baked tandoor bread is absolutely to die for. My favourites are the Chicken kebabs, the Chapli Kababs, Lamb sheesh kababs. Do your self a favour and go try it out, you will be back for more.

Best Afghan food we've ever had! Generous serving sizes and amazing authentic food! The owner is such a lovely person and gave us the most incredible service. Couldn't recommend this place more, we will definitely be back soon!

One of the best Afghan restaurants in Melbourne providing authentic Afghan food. I don’t usually write review but this restaurant deserves a praise. Well done Reza Afghan Kebab

So so happy to see the doors open again. Everything I’ve ever ordered from here has been outstanding. Can’t skip Aushak (dumplings) or the Quabli Pilau (rice and curry).

My first experience for afghan food. Cant emphasize high enough on hospitality. Overall brilliant experience.

Very nice Afghan restaurant, tidy, clean, nice mix grill, chapli kebabs and quabli pulao…. only bread could be improved…. Overall a nice place & food!

Rezah Afghan Kebab is representative of the vibrant multi-ethnic suburb of Brunswick. When I stumbled upon this small local restaurant for supper after realising Very Good Falafel was closed, I did not expect much at all. I was just after some bread with meat and veggies. However, this place pleasantly surprised me with generous amounts of authentic and delicious Afghan dishes. The entree lamb kebab rolls for 10 bucks were a bargain. The staff were rather friendly and fast in serving the foods as well.

Absolutely love this place, the food is so good and the owners are really nice! Such a gem on Sydney road!

My favourite eating place! Quiet and friendly environment to enjoy good time with friends. The food is always great and fresh!

Best cook ! Best place ! Amazing prices and food. Just my favourite restaurant. <3

Easily my favorite kebab place in all of Melbourne! If you don't like kebabs all the other food is delicious as well

This place is majorly overpriced and the food is below average. I can go to Dandenong and get the same food, way better tasting, for a quarter of the price. Given the location and decor the price is not justified in my opinion. Plus the service is very slow and there was 1 person in the kitchen. Do not recommend.
Quicksmart
Absolutely fantastic meal, we had eggplant dish to die for and chicken tikka style dish but Afghan not Indian flavour- incredibly good, served with a very generous portion of naan style bread so warm and soft and two sauces on the side also wonderful flavours. So glad to have discovered this place, shot to the top of my Sydney Rd best places to eat!

Place was pretty empty but it's a weekday evening so fair enough! service was still good - friendly and all smiles albeit a bit quiet - food was great! We enjoyed ourselves very much, cheers!

(Lamb kebab (although skewers weren't there) were our favourite!)

This Kebab place is situated opposite of IGA on Sydney Rd. Small quiet dining area makes me hesitate to walk in each time.

Each visit we asked staff if it is open and let us in with wooden face. As soon as I walked inside, it shows up beautiful authentic Deco.

The dishes also very authentic and charcoal tasty meat and sweet rice are fantastic.
Staff doesn't speak much but they are good cook.

Were served cold and old food.
Way over priced for the quality. You can get much better in same area.
The samosas were frozen bought off the shelf from a super market.
Would not come back anytime soon.

I have been to this restaurant a dozen times or so. It's a friendly little place. And best of all the food never disappoint, either for sit-in or takeaways. Will definitely recommend it to those who want to try out Afghan cuisines.

Rezah Afghan Kebab is located on the buzzing Sydney Road and it surely has the right dishes to stand out.

I ordered a Shawmi Kebab ($20) and unfortunately the food came out after a good 20 minutes (not a biggie but I was the only one inside the shop).

The serving size is huge and the food was really tasty, however the meat was just warm and after a while it got to a point where it wasn't as pleasant as at the start. It was good enough to come back for a second round 🤗

Best Afghan Kebabs I have had in Melbourne. Their service however is very slow and often unwelcoming. The sides are also low in quantity. BUT the delicious flavour of the meat makes up for all that!

Amazing Place beautiful Decoration And The Most Delicious Food I've Ever Had Love The qabli pallow With Dough. Takes Time But Worth The Wait Interesting Hand Made carpets And Cool Chandeliers

We visited here on Saturday night at around 7pm. It was very quiet, but the owner was very friendly. The food was good, and quite authentic, but expect to pay a bit more than you would usually expect ($80 for three people, mains only) and not receive a lot of vegetables or 'sides' with your awesome meat! The bread was amazing!
Make sure to wait for your after-dinner tea, and don't be afraid to gesture for service, or you may be waiting a while.
Overall, a good local restaurant.

had the pleasure of going here for diner last night, mind you at 11:30 pm.

it might of took a bit of time for some one to give us a menu. but it was worth, it, thew service and food were amazing. food was hot , freshly made and full of flavour. it was like having dinner at a friends house, who's parents cook amazing food. it was hearty wholesome and bursting with flavour.

will definitly back , and with more people

i went and got dinner here last night and it is the next morning and i'm still thinking about the eggplant dish. it was so good. dumplings were nice too, and lovely fresh bread. very friendly and attentive staff, nice decor

I have eaten at this place many times and it's such a gem. I used to frequent it when I lived in the area and I still travel from southeastern suburbs to eat here. Food is to die for. Succulent meats and fragrant rice, amazing mantou (dumplings) as well. Best go as a small group and share everything. They have big servings - one serve of meat is four skewers- so good for sharing. Small, quite space. Owners are a cute family and they are very friendly.

Staff are very welcoming & friendly. Food is absolutely delicious. Their chutney is to die for!!! I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quite dinner with some friends.

Consistently amazingly Afghani authentic food! However there are delays because its a family owned business who I must say are very kind people, hospitable always.
Their Kabuli Pilau with Chick curry is my fav along with the Manthu dish. My friends love the Lamb kebab and Aushak dish. When we go there sometimes, they serve us complimentary lovely tea along with sweets upon arrival. Pricing is also really good given the large portions which can fill up 2 people on one dish and comes with Salad, Delicious afghani bread and dips. One of my fav restaurants!

THE BEST!!! Great food! Excellent customer service and warm ambient atmosphere. Tonight me and two guests enjoyed a wonderful feast of traditional afghan food. For entrées, we ordered the steam dumplings and sambosa's and I felt almost annoyed I had to share the dumplings with my friends as it was amazingly good. It took just a little over 15mins for these to arrive. Pretty food and we absolutely loved it! It was gone in no time and left us waiting for more.. For mains, we ordered a lamb korma with white rice, chicken and lamb skewers with all dishes accompanied by delicious condiments including raiita and chutney and fresh servings of naan, piping hot served not long after our entrées were cleared. I was delighted to see the generous and reasonable portions of food, nonetheless QUALITY food. The food here is cooked from scratch and so a little patience is required but worthwhile. I myself have been here twice now and each time, they never cease to amaze and humble me with their hospitality and kindness. Most sincere mention to the chef and baker. Happy every time.

In love with this place! Came back here 2 years after having moved interstate and the food STILL tastes just as amazing as the first time. My partner ordered the banquet for two (40$) very reasonable however, I couldn't resist on the Oashak (dumplings 25$) and so ordered a serve of that. Simply. Heaven. The mix kebab grill was tender and juicy and the pilau was fragrant and fluffy and the bread (naan) just kept coming fresh from the oven baked to perfection I simply cannot praise the food enough and just when we thought we had stuffed our bellies to the max, we were served tea and a silky milky fruit pudding, complimentary from the chef who impressively remembered our last visit! Best hospitality experience by far! They are doing everything right here!

First up - the kebab, when we eventually got it, was nice.
However, we just wanted a quick takeaway bite on the way home from the airport, but after being told (late, almost midnight) that it would take 15 minutes, it took over 45 minutes with no communication about what the hold up was. In fact, the waitress seemed to purposely avoid us probably because she knew it shouldn't take so long- and this was particularly weird as its a tiny restaurant and there were only two other tables there! We also got a rude shock when we were charged $12 for the pot of tea we ordered - which also took 20 minutes to arrive! Bizarre and annoying.

Authentic and delicious food. The kebabs are succulent and flavourful. The lamb/goat kadai has a very homemade feel and tastes great with the fluffy naans. Food is cheap and portions generous. Open late most nights.

The staff are generally friendly and most importantly food is delicious and a generous serving portion. Prices are also pretty reasonable. Usually I leave with a filled up stomach and a happy smile on my face.

Best Afghani kebab in Melbourne. Best kebab and special is their red sauce

Delicious food, friendly atmosphere. We got the banquet for two. The naan alone was worth the visit, but the chicken and lamb tikka were mouth-wateringly good. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but don't let that fool you!

Awesome food, friendly service. I went there last night with my friends and had a really good time :)
Food was great and service was awesome and the staff is very friendly.
I would highly recomment Qabuli Pulaw with Chicken ... It was absolutely beautiful.
Overall a very good experience and highly recommend to those who enjoy Afghani food :D

BEST AFGHAN EXPERIENCE... EVER.. I have a lovely student that recommended me to her family's humble yet deceiving little restaurant in the heart of Brunswick.
My partner and I drove all the way from Belgrave and got lost (no fault of the navigator :/)

We made a booking and feared we would be letting down anyone if we couldn't make it so we were determined to get there regardless of the time. An hour and a half later, we made it and upon our arrival, the meals poured out with all the curiosities we had from the menu. The tiny little setting fooled us completely!

The family owned and operated venue made us feel like an immediate part of their family with stories of tradition, culinary experiences and most of all experiences of so much culture that I have not seen in so very long.

Now, on to the FOOD! Oh my!!!!!!!!!

I could specify favourites, but honestly, how do you choose between the Mantu and the glorious kebabs! The naan was wonderfully cooked and the chutney.... WOWOWOWOWOW!!!

We took home many happy leftovers beyond the above menu samples along with the naan and they will be merrily enjoyed with the extra chutney we were given when we left late into the night.

This is a place I would highly recommend to utilise for a group meal to take up their cozy setting. There may be the odd person sauntering in for take away on their way home, but this is what makes the setting so authentic.

The prices are more than affordable and if put in a fancy restaurant dwelling, the prices could be much higher and STILL be worth it.

I look forward to returning with a group of family or friends to also experience the most amazing of flavours and I thank the family for making us feel so much at home and a part of their heritage, even for just a brief time.
We look forward to coming back sooner than later!

Hats off 150%

Amazing food and to top it off, wonderful people running the place.

Five Stars including the loving atmosphere!
A friend recommended this place and I went for it! I have tried plenty of Central Asian cuisines but this specific restaurant is by far my favorite. The plates are prepared with a lot love for details and a mix of different spices that I havent tasted before. The interior reflects the warm and nice atmosphere that you get when entering the place. The carpet with Afghanistan's map on the wall added to the overall experience!
Bread is delicious and prepared in their restaurant! (I was already happy eating the bread itself and couldnt wait to get my meals) I appreciate the effort of keeping it as authentic! I waited for my meals not a long time and ate rice with a delicous lamb curry. I cant stand typical French cuisines where you get a huge plate with no food on it and need to get something else to eat afterwards. In this restaurant you will get enough and feel good about it since it is well prepared. The staff was very helpful with explaining different meals and their ingredients! The dumplings I got were the best ones I have ever had and I am a huge fan of East Asian dumplings. Filled with the right amount of meat and covered in a delicious sauce with natural yoghurt, I enjoyed my dinner very much.
Food 10/10
Overall Experience 11/10!
Worth a visit and def. coming back with friends for more! Huge fan of Afghan food

Excellent. Absolutly awesome!!

I want to like this place But.... First of all what renovations ? The photo or photos of the one wall that looks half decent is Not a true indication of what this restaurant really looks or feels like inside no ambiance at all ( to person who wrote resembles an afghan palace or something similar - must be working for this restaurant or be a family member etc , as it is clearly not anything like this but more like a take away shop or canteen )

Asked for two wine glasses : a good 10 mins later , one dirty , different sized glasses came out ( bottle of wine semi warm by now ! )

Entree : 1/10 microwaved samosas. Mine was still frozen in the middle , girlfriends was stone cold and boiling hot in different parts.

Waited for ONE HOUR for Mains
Mains: 8/10 lovely flavours and not microwaved thankfully , finally pleased we came !!! and relieved one because ONE we were starving and TWO because some of the reviews on this site must be real/ true !

- Dumpling ( soft casing , lovely flavour and generous size )
- eggplant ( delicious good size )
- rice with chicken curry ( wonderful - would highly recommend , curry could have been larger portion)
- kebab ( quite moist with good flavour of bbq grill smokey/ burn flavour which i like)

The only other thing I would mention is they brought out the mains and desert and the tea ALL at the same time so by the time we had finished mains ( plenty left over from the $100 banquet - it recommends for TWO people but could easily feed FOUR ... would have been nice to know this!! but we were able to take the left overs so wasn't too displeased ).

More well trained staff, decrease the amount of time to bring mains out , refurbish inside and clear away finished meals/glasses etc and respond to patrons requests quicker... then I might recommend and return but at this stage I would NOT sadly as the wait was too long for a weeknight in a restaurant with only two other tables occupied. Did notice one or two people coming in to pick up take away... perhaps this is a better idea ?!

overal experience : 6/10
food ( mains only ) 8/10
value for money 7.5/10

Great place, great food!. So happy I stumbled across this place, food was amazing. The service friendly and attentive. Can't wait to go back for bread which is served hot and dipped in the chili side dish. Order everything!!!!

Amazing!!! Words can not describe how good this place is! Fresh, tasty and reasonably priced! I have not explored the menu extensively but any of the kebabs grilled over coals is a must! Not to mention the naan....Wow! A must try

Amazing Afghan!. I love this place! The food is absolutely delicious and the service is very warm and friendly. It isn't cheap, but the servings are huge and the food excellent quality. Will be going back there very soon!

Best restaurant around!. Rezah's is amongst my top 5 favorite places to eat out in Melbourne! The flavour and the freshness of the food is to be praised as many times as one can before the food gets cold! I cannot wait to go back in and have their dumplings and chicken tikka! my mouth is salivating at the thought of returning . The owners there are humble and kind especially the bright young girl who served us. So knowledgeable and sweet. Birthday booked soon and am sure we will be satisfied. Thanks

It felt like I was in a tiny mansion in the outskirts of Kabul somewhere. The atmosphere was so relaxed with beautiful afghan tapestry and with soft Persian music playing in the background, I would never have left. The food: I have probably never tasted authentic and true flavour-filled food from my own mother before! I took my girlfriend and we haven't stopped talking about them since! The qabuli pilau dish served alongside curry and amazing chutney relish and bread was just amazing!!! Definitely going back Soon! The owners there give real meaning to impeccable hospitality - Afghan hospitality. Thank you Rezahs.

Authentic, Quality and Taste. On a late night out, I really felt like a kebab, but I hardly wanted one of those reheated cheap gyros... you just can't trust the meat sometimes. But we luckily stumbled across this jewel and were happy. Friendly, good food and great chai. That's what you get. And that's all I wanted. A little pricey, I agree, but it's quality meat. Do go, you won't be disappointed.

Very tasty food and good val.... Very tasty food, and very warm service. It is a lovely family run business... we are regulars here. Highly recommend the ashak (we get the vegetarian to share), I also had the lamb which was very nice.

Very good place, the foods very delish and the staff are very friendly. Nice cozy place. The foods very sexxy.

The food here is lipsmackingly good. I had sambosas and that red sauce was insane. I ate so much of it, too much of a good thing isnt always good is a very relavent quote. Paid a tad more then i usually do but well worth it
Emily 'Ej' Kate Sowter
Absolutely delicious food, reasonable value, friendly (if not always attentive) service, ordinary atmosphere. But I would go there just for the eggplant.
Pugg
I love it! So the serves may be smallish: but that doesn't matter... I always walk away so full! The hospitality shown by this family run business, especially the young woman is so rare: so obliging and friendly. The food is delicious meals come with plenty of hot bread, salad and sauces. It's a great place to come with friends and share a few different dishes.

Godsend!. I've been in Melbourne since the end of Jan. Me & my bro have been searching for a good food place and we finally found it. Rezah Afghan Kebab. It's quality!

The food, the people, the vibe is all super. Made us feel welcome instantly. Now it's like home away from home!

They served us chicken tikka (our first dish we ordered, and since, we have been through a few lol), The food smelt and tasted beautiful. Better than home and trust me, I've been having these kinda dishes since birth as im Pakistani. So mum was over the moon that her boys were being well taken care of :-)

So this is a 'special thankyou' to Rezah's and I can't wait to be back to munch my face off again... Thanx again all, you are an amazing set of people and I'll miss you guys for sure :-)

We love it!. Reza Afghan Kebab is the closest restaurant to our house and we're very glad of it. The family are lovely, the food is great and we take our friends there all the time. We love the place and sometimes have to try to remind ourselves that there ARE other restaurants in the area, too, not that we go to them very often any more!
Jarrad
Blerg.. Terrible experience. The meals were way over priced and we were told to wait 10 minutes for food which turned into at least 30 mins. Then when we go to pay we find that we've been charged for three dished, onyl one of whcih we actually ordered! The the guy insisted we ordered the food and tried to make us pay for it. Avoid!

A Hidden Gem. I moved to Brunswick six months ago, and since then I have been to Rezah's Afghan Kebab too many times to count. This restaurant is family owned and operated, and the food is both very traditional and delicious. I have taken friends here, and all of them leave talking about both the quality of the food and the warm hospitality of the owners. All of the meals are worth trying, and the bread and chai just keeps coming. Open much later than most restaurants in the area, for take away as well, the atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing and I recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Gnarly
Have been going here for about 4 months, very flavorsome food , relaxed atmosphere for very unassuming place and was great value until our last visit about 3 weeks ago, main dishes have gone from $14 to $20 which is overpriced for the (lack of) service and venue. I think the owners may have got a little too greedy. No longer will be recommending to friends at these prices
Tamra
Flavour plus!. After reading reviews, decided to check it out. Really glad we did! What delicious food. Was a bit more expensive than I thought but worth it. Great rice dish and tender lamb. Would skip the tea for $3 but the food was fabulous and we'll be going back there again. We took our 5month old and she was well received and enjoyed it as much as we did. Recommend to anyone wanting a great night out with good food for a reasonable price.

Best Afghan place mmmm. I have been coming here for 2 years, and every time I come I am delighted with the main dishes, and love the cute samosas &their great tastes.

Weather I am ordering the Pilao (Rice with Carrot and sultanas) or one of the many kebab meals they have, I fall in love again with the beauty of Afghan food.

Come here for something that is low key in appearance, yet the highest Quality in taste.
Julius D'urden
My favourite shish kebab. I've been coming to Reza Afghan Kebab for about 5 years now and I still love it. The reason I keep coming back for more is because of the chicken tikka shish meal. The spices added to the meat gives it a taste unlike any other kebab restaurant I've been to, and I've been to many!

The place does look a little dodgy, and the prices are mid-range but if you're able to get past these small details, you're in for a real treat. I highly recommend Reza Afghan Kebab and encourage you to try it, especially as a late night meal!
Daniel Price
Really enjoyed the flavours of the food here, yum! Will be back again.
