Review Bocastle Handmade Pastries - Brunswick

Amedeo Fazzolari
Bought a few of these pies at the Abbotsford Convent farmer's market including (spinach feta and fennel, lamb and caramelised onion, scallop and saffron). Took some home. Pastry was quite good as was the flavour of the fillings. However there was quite minimal filling of the main ingredient and lots of gelatin/sauce in each pie. Unexpected for $8 and $9 pies sold at a truck stand. Also previously bought the beef burgundy pies and had a similar experience. Has potential though.

We have tried your pies for the first time at our farmers market and we're hooked, bought some more at the last market and gone, beef burgundy and chicken pies so far our favourite, will try others next time, meat is tender and flavour is delishes, will never eat pies from anywhere else

the pie was okay i guess - no better nor worse than those nice ones you get out of the freezer aisle at [insert large chain supermarket here]. okay, maybe a 0.1/10 better. however even though i wanted to really tip well the lovely staff member who served us, i couldn't, as i was worried it wouldn't go entirely to her. i have a different tip to leave instead, for the person who was clearly in charge of her in some way that night, and here it is; eating out at a restaurant is not ALL about the ratio of herbs, spices, butter, flour, meat and vegetables, etc mixed up and heated to become the 'dish'- it is also (possibly even more-so in the case of a pie restaurant, let's face it) about the enjoyable social event, the laugh you have with your friends,, the smiles you receive from total stranger staff members who are only paid to take your order and deliver it, not also make you feel as though you are doing her the hugest favour on earth by just being there, and the warmth with which she politely answers your friends' ridiculous questions....no - we would have tipped her more than the cost of the pie if we could have been assured that she got the lot, because despite the obvious rudeness she (undoubtedly) copped from you on a regular basis, we just couldn't risk it that all of the money wouldn't be going to her. that;'s my tip. to you, the boss, and to potential future customers. being nice to your staff is free!!!!

Was driving on Sydney road when i go to turn into the turning lane, your driver was too close and nearly crashed so instead of acknowledging his fault he said 'ill f in kill you'. If you condone this behaviour and keep drivers on your payroll who have acted this way then my one star remains.

Love their spinach and fennel pie, I go to my local farmers market just for these pies

Something to note, location on google maps is not a shop front, rather, they operate from markets.

I don't like pies...yuck

Some of the best and most consistent pies going around. They sell these at David Jones and various supermarkets, but you can also go straight to the source and get them at the factory. They do seconds (which only have the lid on crooked or something else minor), and these are $20 for a tray of 6. My personal favourite is plain minced beef but they’re all pretty damn good!

Good quality pies at a good price. The curry pies are a winner. The take home seconds pack is great value for stocking up the freezer for a quick meal mid week.

The must have pretty exacting standards at Boscastle when their trays of 'seconds' look perfectly normal to me! The pies sit comfortably between true gourmet fare and a four'n'twenty- won't set the world on fire but great to throw a batch in the oven when the footy is on!

Mr. Fussy. The best pies in Melbourne, and more than likely Australia if not the World. Absolutely outstanding quality and taste.
The party pies are a must have at any celebration as everybody goes mad for them, forget the sushi these are a real crowd pleaser and you can buy them at selected stores everywhere Just Great.

Poor Pies!. Visiting from the UK with my wife and thought we would try Boscastle Pies, our pies were extremely poor to say the least, my beef pie was still frozen in the middle, and my wife's chicken pie had no chicken filling and was burnt! Asked for a refund but was told to "hit the road" by the rude manager, very, very underwhelming in a city that boasts such great food. Also, please tell your staff not to wipe down tables after they have cleaned a spill on the floor!

Best. Pies. Ever.

Good people and pies. I love Boscastle pies. A friend of mine used to live around the corner around 10yrs ago and we would grab a pack of pies to cook for ourselves and any friends that were around - no cafe back then just a counter.
Now there is a cafe set up at the factory. It is a nice place to try these high end pies.
Some are better than others, but they are all individual and tasty in their own right. Get some in the party pie size to taste them all.

Gotta llike the pies. Forget the rest.. Bit basic except for the pies. Dead horse is pretty good too. Bloke says coffee is nothing special. Have never troubled the tea maker myself. But if you're after a pie, with flavour and lacking pretension you're in the right spot. Don't forget to try the sauce.

Although, the vege fillings were wholesome, they tasted bland and lack seasoning. The pasty did not have a crispy crust as one would expect good pasty crust to be. I had the impressive that the the pasty had been microwaved. The latte was very ordinary and not worth any raving. In summary, better vege pasties and coffees could be found elsewhere. A 2.5 out of 5 pie and coffee treat.
