Review Flakes On Sydney Road - Brunswick

Edit: I appreciate the response from the owner. I don't want you to refund twice and I've already taken it up with the app, but thanks for the offer. The app has no way to contact the restaurant, I did report the missing items immediately. Ordered the flake pack earlier tonight, received just the flake. -Pack is advertised as 1 flake,1 dim sim, 1 potato cake, chips, tartare and lemon. They did at least put the lemon in. -Mind you, this is through a delivery service not direct to the restaurant, but the delivery service only refunded me half the cost of the pack. -I paid for +1 dim sim which I did receive, here's the mostly empty box that got delivered to my house. Also ordered a Diet Coke and got sent a Coke Zero, they're not the same. I didn't try to get it refunded, seeing as I did actually get a (wrong) drink at least. Anyway ruined my dinner, had to go buy something else, and ripped me off. Such a shame because the fish was good. Won't be ordering here again.

The food was EXQUISITE it was so good I came back for more a few hours later. Best fish and chips shop I’ve ever been to, the shop is really relaxing and has a nice vibe to it. I love that they sold many different foods in one place and they all tasted equally as amazing. I drove thirty minutes to try as it was recommended by soo many people and I was craving good fish and chips and ended up ordering more for later too couldn’t resist trying all the options offered. The staff were really nice had a great conversation with a staff member. Busy at times but that just shows the love and popularity of the place. The staff is really what has me coming back this location has a great set of people, not only is the food amazing but the people are so sweet and wonderful it is also very busy at this location and the employees are just so darn nice and great! Thank you!!!! I know how hard it can get sometimes (fellow waitress) but let me tell ya, this staff and place in general is the best!!! Amazing

One of the most quality fish and chips I’ve ever had in Melbourne, will be coming more frequently here for more of this delicious food. Owner was very very kind and let me take home a free bottle of Coke. Recommend 120%

We have ordered from here multiple times. Each time their online ordering system won't accept credit card payments and we have to call. We advise them of this and they never bother to fix it. Try to call today and I am glad I did so before ordering as the line is constantly engaged. We order directly from them so that the delivery companies don't cut into their profits. Won't be bothering again.

This is my favorite spot I've been coming this place since I got to Melbourne the best spot ...it's clean, service is good inside warm and nice space for dinning, television there for you to watch while you enjoy your time here price is right and the food is perfect..the people in this place is very polite and kind thank you so much for the best food and service 😊

This is hands down the best fish my wife and I have had in our 23 yrs in Melbourne.The burgers and muffin meals also second to none.All the food is made with love 💕 We will definitely come again when we are up this way next.10/10

Second Friday night eating Flakes through a pickup order. Last week I had battered flake and miminmum chippets. Was delicious, I ate it all. Left me wanting more so this week I have ordered again, though the flake is now crumbed. Will leave a review after ingesting food in miminim 15 mins<br/>

Wish I had read the reviews before ordering, we ordered on a Sunday night (after peak time) and the food still took an hour and a half to arrive at ours (live 7-10 mins away). Not like we had a big order either. Food definitely not worth the wait. Lady on phone was rude as well when we called to see where it was. Won’t be ordering here again.

Took 2 hours to get delivery , woman on phone was obnoxious.Give this place a miss. Heaps better around. Absolutely appalling. And food is rubbish

DO NOT ORDER delivery. I waited 1 hour and 40 minutes. Food was fine but by the time it came I lost interest, and had cooked some pasta and hopped into bed. <br/>If you do order, for gods sake go and collect it. I will never order from here AGAIN. Ever.

my sister placed an order for delivery, 2 burgers meal and it took 90 mins to received it after calling couple times. The first call they told us they are cooking now, second call it is on its way, that was within 50 mins, then once we got it, it was cold and my sister called the place and the owner was very rude to complain about our food being cold. So we send it back.

Waited in shop for 30 minutes for an order of medium chips while other customers came, ordered, received and left. No one checked my order with me until I approached the counter even when I was only customer left in store then blamed the other orders for slow delivery of mine even though mine was first. Then they admitted the order didn't go through to the kitchen due to computer failure - when the kitchen and register are all of 2 metres apart this could easily be checked. Hard to get get the basics so wrong in such a simple operation. First and last time at Flakes' shambles for me.

Food was soggy and tasteless. This was a surprise as we had ordered from here before and it was rather good! The calamari was not real. The deep fried mars bar somehow was not right, very dry and something strange had effected the texture.<br/><br/>We do definitely understand ordering online +delivery will never result in the freshest meal: but the contrast between this order and our first was staggering. It must have been a different chef...<br/><br/>It didnt help that the delivery driver appeared to very much hate his job and customers. No hello, thank you, goodbye, eye contact. He handed over the delivering so fast it almost hit the floor, and was turning to walk away before he had even finished handing it over... <br/><br/>Really saddened. They have lost business here, we won't order again.

Have used Flake's on Sydney Road for over a year now and over the last few months they have definitely gone down hill.  It appears they are only good for fast food fish and chips and burgers, however, other menus has been absolutely shonky especially when you pay over $10.00 for a $3.00 grilled lamb and salad!!  I'm better off going to Hungry Jack's for my $3.00 to $5.00 burger and I can assure you I am pretty full!!.  It's a pity they have gone down hill as I adored the grilled lamb and salad that use to come in double sized container.

They look good, I'd really want to try it some day, I guess whenever I visit there I'm hitting you guys :D I just hope it's all good when I come :p

Flakes Sydney Road, Brunswick.... As you can see in the photos, there is a large sign on the shopfront that reads "Free Home Delivery". Upon ordering a meal, I was charged a $5 delivery fee! I phoned and spoke to management, they said the sign was from previous owners and they would remove it ASAP. Two months later, the sign is still up, and people are still getting ripped off. :(

Battered Barramundi And Chips. Soggy batter, very disappointing. <br/>Fish inside was moist and excellent. 1hr 30 mins for delivery. Ordered from these guys first time today hour later food still hadn't arrived...called after reading other reviews told me they had been too busy....appalling won't be a repeat customer...take ur business elsewhere!

There's a reason I keep coming back!. A lot of these reviews seem so negative but I think maybe this place has gone under new management since I have first bought from and and continue to buy from Flakes. Reliable delivery (often early) and great for your fish and chip fix. Try the onion rings ;)

Food took over a hour a forty minute to arrive was cold as if it had just come out of the fridge and they forgot half my order when I called she said it would take another hour min to cook and deliver when I asked for a refund she said her manager needed to call me back while he did and was rude and unhelpful and only offered a refund if I took the crap cold late food out of the bin what type of service is this????

Rubbish. I can't believe this place is still even open. I gave this place a few chances as it's right around the corner from me and i will never go back. Chips never cooked enough! Hard frozen potato cakes twice! And the service is atrocious.

Awful service, if the restaurant is running behind they'll disconnect your phone so no one can cancel! The food is cheap, but just awful. I gave these guys a few chances before deciding never to go back, so it wasn't just one bad experience. <br/>The burgers are soggy, the kebabs are halve empty and the pizzas are disgusting. Food is always late so forget about hot chips. The salad is just lettuce with a peice of tomato. <br/>I could go on and on, but the worst thing of all is ( I'm sure you don't need to hear this but I'll warn you for your own good) it gives you diarrea! <br/>I cannot for the life of u.destiny why this shop is so popular!

Absolute disgrace! I received a message saying my order would arrive in an hour.I called them after an hour and a half and their excuse was traffic. It finally arrived after 2 hours. It was cold, didn't get an apology and no discount. Don't ever eat here!!!!!!!!!

Still waiting..... Ordered 2 pizzas, garlic bread and soft drink ($35) online, received a text saying it would be 50 mins, it's been 1 hour and 15 minutes....still waiting!! Pathetic! Just called a manager to cancel the order and reverse payment.

On a Thursday night and it takes 95+ minutes to deliver Fish and Chips? Once they arrive they are cold and missing items! Pathetic service especially when you call the shop and the lady says 'are you sure cold? I no think but we have many orders before you, and very busy on the road'

Never Again!!. What is there to say.. I placed an order online.. I received and email saying that "they couldn't accept my order, yet they took the money out of my account and now I have to wait 48 hours to be refunded.. WTF! If you can't accept my order then don't take my money.. I will not be telling any of my family or friends to order from here..

This place is completely hopeless, after an incorrect street number had been realised they did not even have the courtesy to call me.They then proceeded to take my fish and chips on a tour of the city for two hours until I called to find out what the problem was. An hour after that I called again and it turned out the delivery driver had been sitting in my street for the last thirty minutes. I had to go outside and guide her to the correct address to which I received a cold wet bag of fish and chips. Wtf?

Never again. My boyfriend and a friend of ours were having a great lazy day and stayed in bed sleeping. We decided to order dinner in so we jumped online and did an online order around 7:20. The food was meant to arrive at 8:20, but didn't get there until 8:45. They packed the grilled fish in on top of my battered flake, the desert (deep fried mars bar and banana fritter) in the same box as the fish and chips, the greek salad had no dressing, the chips were uncooked and went bad afetr 5 minuted, and they didn't deliver out lamb souvlaki. We called them back and they had to call around and figure out what happened to it. After 20 minutes they called back to say it had been left in the delivery van and they'd make a fresh one and deliver it. It arrived just after 9:40 and it was just overpowered with onion. The lamb was uncooked and we didn't finish it out of fear of food poisoning. Very disappointed and never getting food from here again.

Great service!. Made on order for Chicken Souvlaki, Hawaiian burger and garlic bread.<br/><br/>Order was quick, food was good, little thing they forgot the garlic bread.<br/><br/>Called them up and they came back with the garlic bread and a Can drink to make up for it :) So great service!!<br/><br/>Will be ordering again from them

We rang up flakes about a week and a half ago for a home delivery order of three pizzas. We basically asked for one vegan pizza with out cheese, and I can't remember the other ones. We waited and waited, basically had to call them up 3-6 times to see where the hell they were. We thought old mate delivery driver might've had a car crash or something. Last phone call, old girl tells us he is on his way and they'll be really lovely pizzas. We get them 2 or so hours later and there's no complimentary 7 ups or pepsi's for the delay, not even a garlic bread, old mate just takes the coin and bails.<br/>We open up pizza that says veg on it, assuming it to be the vegan no cheese. And it's basically a meat lovers. All the other pizzas are just littered with pineapple like its a tropical oasis.

Scollops were quite good. Nice tasting chips. Everything was typically mass-produced and unfortunately the batter seemed to be as well. Flake was small and had obviously been in the freezer a long time, ditto the calamari. Service was prompt and friendly.

New Management. These guys are under new management and now have introduced a new menu. Fish and Chips are still great, but the new selection of burgers is a great improvement and a range of items have been added to the new menu, including a new range of Pizzas, Steaks, Salads and deserts. Delivery times usually about 45-60 mins, but food is always cooked right before it leaves so its always arrives hot fresh and crispy. A lot of special deals and packs are really good value, but also more pick up specials if you want to go down there and pick up.

Pretty good.. Friday night delivery took slightly over the quoted time, food was still hot though. Both burgers were reasonably neatly presented, very tasty. One of the buns was slightly burnt, but the chips were crispy and overall it was a good meal that was reasonably priced.

Horrible! Why crumbed? Where's the batter? Grilled fish dry as the Sahara desert. Calamari was a mess. Chips soggy. Best part was the salad... Because they couldn't mess it up!

Missing the mark a bit!. Burger with the lot doesn't come with an egg and is quite a messy burger in general and just felt slapped together with no intention to make an outstanding burger (which inst hard).<br/>squid rings were processed, frozen from a packet and the chips were not very good when compared to other f'N'c shops around.<br/>When purchased in store it does look very lack lusterd and is in need of a renovation.<br/><br/>I could keep rubbishing this place but if they keep charging the same price as other places and their food is not up to "That prices" standard ..... then it will eventually die.
