Review I Love Dumplings - Brunswick

Jordan Debney
Dangerously undercooked XiaoLongbao, spring rolls taste like they have been frozen for 6 months, fried rice has no flavor. Unfortunately it was my partner who spotted it and i had already eaten two of mine so it looks like i’m be in for a long night. We used to order from this place years ago and it was the best around by far, disappointing how far the standard of quality has fallen. Won’t be ordering again and highly recommend no one else does too despite the convenience of it being local.

The employees of I Love Dumplings are normally good , but today seems like they are all over the place (maybe new staff?). When I came to get my order on the designated pick-up time, the lady seemed unaware of my order. I had to wait like an extra 15 minutes, which was okay, they did seem frantic. It was just a bit annoying that the staff didn't seem to care, no apologies or thank yous at all, no explanation, just gave my order and basically sent me on my way. Then, when I got home, they got my order wrong. I ordered pan-fried, not steamed pork dumplings, which was super annoying. The sichuan sauce I got was also way off from the usual standard, no red peppers at all. Quite disappointing experience.

Takeaway only. I was craving hot wok tossed noodles and that is what I got. Beautiful and fresh, large portion. Cheap and cheerful and nice quality I thought.

Really nice pork dumplings. 15 pieces for $11 however they also charged $1 for chilli oil which is usually free in dumpling restaurants. Small actually tiny restaurant seats 12 people. Looks purposeful built for Uber eats and food delivery service.

Service is a little slow.... take away companies such as Uber have taken over the in store dining experience. This place does not have much seating arrangements and is probably best if your a lover of dumplings - take away style. Pork dumpling for the win!! They’re yum.

A hidden gem. Best dumplings in the north for me, each dumpling always on point. The rest doesn't miss either, spring rolls are similarly bang on.

Noddle is tasty, and vegetable dumplings are very good, even better than the shrimp and chicken dumplings. The place is not very suitable for eating in as the seats are hard and squeezy.

I bought food at this place a few time but recently turn pretty bad I got steam dumplings it’s shocking that paste sticky as. It a disgrace if I had time I was going to take it back to them.👎

I love dumplings does make nice dumplings, but I would recommend you do not veer from that style of dish as the fried rice was less than mediocre with a lack of fresh ingredients used.

The place for flavorful and affordable dumplings! Had pan fried chicken and prawns to go, along with veg spring rolls and chicken fried rice. The fried rice was surprisingly dark brown in color (♥️!) full of chicken chunks. They also gave us sauce packets, which I though were better than the usual reusable container.

Love this place! Fast and delicious. Chicken and prawn dumplings are my favourite. The szechuan sauce is crazy good and a must have.

The dumplings are yummy the staff are friendly and the service is quick. 12 dollars for 15 dumplings!! Chicken and prawns dumplings are so good!!!!

Tried the gluten free pork dumplings at $13 a pretty cheap. The filling was delicious but unfortunately the casing was not. Very thick and gluey it overwhelmed the filling and made the whole dumpling into something unpleasant. I ended up just eating the insides and leaving the casing behind. The place is extremely busy so expect a long wait. Staff are run off their feet and only care about getting rid of you as soon as possible.

Good but not fantastic. Ordered take away at lunchtime, waited for a long time despite not much happening. Dumplings are ok, nothing wow.
Service was ordinary, it doesn't take much effort to be friendly!
Serving size is generous and appreciate the sauces that come standard. I'd go back but not in a rush when there's so many other options close by!

Very Very busy little dumpling place in the back streets of funky Brunswick. The food is good, the dumplings were pan fried perfectly but lacking that wow flavour, the spring rolls are delicious and the prawn cracker bag is exceptional value. Uber drivers are in and out of the place like flies, and the wait can be very long. Unfortunately the staff are too busy to be friendly and can come across as lacking in personality.

Ordered takeaway from here a week ago. The food was great as usual from this brand. Pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings are the best experience so far.

I wouldn't comment on the delivery part, as its a third party platform.

Overall my food experience was excellent.

Can't wait to order again next time

Ordered takeaways from this shop through ubereats. The food was nice and warm. Dumplings were delicious as it should be.
You can't be wrong with their dumplings. They had so many stores around Melbourne already.

Delivery part was ok, but won't blame it on merchant. I will blame ubereats for the delivery part.

Decided to try I Love Dumplings as its pretty much the only dumpling place near my house. The tons to Uber deliveries going out the door made me feel confident of my choice. I was rather disappointed however. Between two people we ordered the Chinese brocolli with garlic, 3 duck pancakes, 3 spring rolls and a serve of the pork pan fried dumplings. I paid $40 for the lot and then asked for some tap water. The lady behind the counter said they didn't have cups as they were a take away place. I paid for a bottle of water. Its definitely not only a take away place as there are seats to eat there. Everything is disposable including the small bowls for the soy sauce and the cutlery. The dumplings were dry but came out quickly. The duck pancakes were delicious and I wished I ordered more. Overall the food was ok but this place only gets a 3 for the lack of environmental consciousness. Stop the plastic!

Food: Shanghai noodles, kimchi fried rice, prawn dumplings, spring rolls. Big servings of noodles and rice. Struggling to taste the kimchi, noodles flavour a bit overpowering for me and I couldn’t finish. The dumplings and spring roll were fine, freshly cooked.
Service: order at register, food comes to table. Nice bunch.
Ambience: smallish place, but bright and clean. Pretty standard.
Verdict: Serviceable choice for locals and Uber eats, but nothing really noteworthy against other similar offerings around.

Have only order from Uber eats twice. On both occasions, the dumplings were incredibly stodgy and thick (have had pan fried and steamed). Kung Pao chicken and rice was completely flavourless and bland. Really really disappointed, I definitely won’t be ordering from Uber eats again which is a surprise considering it’s high rating in the app.

Ordered at 5:40pm.
Wait time was 1.5hrs. (Which was ok because we weren’t that hungry when we ordered)
We called at 7:10pm when the food didn’t come but there was no answer. Called a few times but still nothing.
So we ordered from somewhere else and food was delivered promptly.
The Driver from ‘I Love Dumplings’ came just after 9pm!!
Perhaps a once off? Regardless, it only takes one bad experience to be turned off. If they can’t even keep track of their orders, what else aren’t they doing?
I would never use or recommend this place.

solid value for money. more western-asian cuisine, but sometimes you get a craving for that and their vege fried noodles hit the spot. im just a student with a taste for indomie mi goreng and these noodles give you the taste of them without the feeling of dirtiness that usually ensues after the packet version. their vege dumplings is where its at - my bf, who is usually a light eater, smashed down 28 of these in one seating (with regret coming in hot on his heels but he was still very happy). usually get them delivered and they always come fresh hot and quick, but when you sit in, its a nice communal bench to share sriracha and soy and ponder at the strange spider web facade of the apartments across the road.

Wanna make some money? Open a dumpling joint in Brunswick because this is the only one around and people are queuing out the door. I wandered in about 6pm on a Sunday evening to see all 8 seats taken (eating in), about 4 other parties like myself waiting for takeaway, and about 8 uber drivers also squashed inside. There was more bench space taken up by uber bags than space to prep meals.

As I don't eat meat I can only comment on the veg dumplings - definitely hand made and very very tasty. I waited 30 minutes and I'm still giving them 5 stars because they were delicious dumplings and the Szechuan chilli sauce was the perfect match.

The dumplings were amazing. I also like the fried rice with duck and pickled vegs the flavour was very interesting and I Like it. . Glad to have them in Brunswick.

Prawn dumplings. Mmmmmm. Good vibes, great service. Morish. Will be back at any time when having a need for dumplings. The place do not have amenities though, so be prepared for a walk if you need to go..

I tried the stir fry vegetables and tofu in a satay sauce. It was very tasty and filling. The service was good and the place was clean. Will return to try the gluten free vegetable dumplings next time.

I am SO excited to have dumplings in Brunswick!!! The xiao Lon bao were ok. The panfried pork were delish! The duck pancake a little odd and the bun on the bao way too thick but I'm giving them time! They delivered quickly, were hot, and lets face it! Half decent dumplings are better than no dumplings at all!!!

I had the steamed prawn dumplings (4 pcs for $5.50). They tasted good, even better with soy sauce.
However, they were so tiny that you could fit all 4 into your mouth at once. Also, one of the dumplings had a whole prawn inside it, which was very dry and unpleasant to eat.

Veggie dumplings were good value for money and very tasty. Service was friendly and speedy for a very busy evening. Great addition to Brunswick.

Good, fresh and cheap dumplings- great as both takeaway and eat in. I particularly enjoyed the steamed bun with preserved cabbage and potato vermicelli because I hadn't eaten anything like it before and it was quite filling for $5 for 2 pieces.

The only is good is the bao. The rest was tasteless and overpriced. Will not order from here again. Fried rice taste taste like steamed rice with vegetables. Honey chicken was very tough to eat. Dumplings lacked in taste. Noodles very oily. Never again

On a simple formula of quality + price × speed - hassle of cooking = 5.

Located literally across from where I live, this place has been a blessing since opening. Great flavours, good food at a very reasonable price.

Attentive staff and a caring service makes this place a new hidden gem in Brunswick which it was much need up here.

Thank you for having me 🙏

Had Uber eats and opposite experience of others on this app. Cold, dumpling pastry was hard and dry for the prawn dumplings which were minuscule and the pork dumplings overcooked and stuck together. Not particularly good duck pancakes - ordered five only received three Have never written review for Zomato before but was prompted by how bad it was!

Nice food here. Service is also good but they can get very busy. It's a small place, eat in is only at a bar but is still nice if you can get a seat there. There's also a bench outside to sit on if you don't mind the cold! More of a take away place. Plenty of food delivery people coming on and out of here. I like that you can order on a big touch screen when you walk in, I did this and it worked well - but would have liked the receipt to list what I ordered, I had forgotten what I ordered by the time it arrived and I couldn't check it off the receipt to make sure it all came.

Had UberEATS tonight from I love Dumplings. Dumplings were home made so fresh and delicious. The fried rice and calamari were also great. I highly recommend this place.

This trendy little eatery is just opposite where I live. Popped by today and ordered pan-fried pork dumplings with chili sauce, fried rice, and their spring onion pancake. Everything was tasty but the dumplings were particularly delicious (they told me they were hand-made). Staff were very attentive and friendly. Will eat in next time.

I tried pan fried pork dumplings and fried rice with roasted duck meat and pickled vegetable. Dumplings were very tasty and got a bit juice. Fried rice was also good and got very nice flavor, especially with the pickled vegetables. Definitely will go back and try the dumplings and other fried rice. My friend tried their BBQ pork Gua Bao, it was also nice.
