Hygiene at the top of the list...this place has great service and yummy food. The mock meat dishes and roti chanai is a must try. Love the vegan options, Teh tarik and Nasi lemek.must try place and one of the best and authentic Malaysian food place.
3.5. Had a nice dinner here. Meals came out very fast. The kuey teow goreng was nice, as was the nasi lemak with fried chicken. Tried the roti telur bawang and added the beef rendang. Everything was quite tasty.

We had Sijori Malay Eatery cater at our wedding on the 13.03.2020 at Glasshaus Inside and they did an absolutely phenomenal job!
Not only was their food amazing (which goes without saying), the service, professionalism and overall team effort was fantastic.
Our guests were blown away by the food, the curry puffs, satay skewers as our entree were divine, the mains we had about 6 different types and each one was superb!
Couldn't have asked for a better caterer and absolutely amazing job team Sijori (and BFF Kantan) for the great work you have done to make our special day run smoothly and without a single hitch!

Great authentic malaysian food! We loved the roti, and flavors in the main dishes: chicken, prawns and fish. Warning that the prawns and fish were quite spicy! Fantastic to see vegan options, the nasi lemak with mock chicken was delicious- loved the fried shitake mushrooms and sambal. Friendly service and great fitout. My only complaint is that the laksa was not as flavourful as I expected. Will be back.
Friendly staff, I haven’t try this kind of food before. The staff was so patient to explain and provide recommendations. She noticed I am an Asian so She provided me chopsticks! So sweat! I haven’t order too much for the first try, but will definitely go back and try other different foods there because I can feel the cook made the food with their heart, very delicious....!

Tagged along with some Malaysian friends to try 'authentic' Malay cuisine and I was impressed! A regular to thai and vietnamese cuisine, the flavour profile of malay food is quite different to what I'm used to... in a positive manner (plates wiped clean!). Shared the Nasi Goreng Kampung, Kuey Teow Goreng (Seafood) and the Katong Curry Laksa, and wished had space for their Roti Pisang dessert... which I saw from the other table; is banana filled roti bread drizzled with choc sauce. YUM!... Hopefully i'll find myself in Bundoora again in near future to try it, but overall great food, friendly service, and very nice decor with photos of Malaysia on the walls!
One of the best malay cuisine in Melbourne. Service by the two lovely young boys were tip top! I recommend eating the asam pedas if you have a chance to dine in at sijori malay eatery!
Excellent Malaysian food. Very tasty and reasonably priced. Their mee goreng and Nasi goreng are beautiful. Only negative point is that they put little meat with their fried rice. Would definitely go back.
From the moment you step in to Sijori, you know that you're in for a good experience. From the warm and friendly service to the interior which is flooded by natural light and those wonderful pillars covered by greenery...it all feels very homely.
Then there's the food. They serve the most authentic Laksa Johor in Melbourne if not the Southern Hemisphere. The spaghetti was perfectly al dente and the fish based Laksa sauce was spot on. All the correct toppings were there and the sambal belachan brought everything together well.
The mee goreng was another highlight. It had the right amount of char and spice. The nasi campur was a colourful combination of chicken, vegetables and egg. And the piece de resistance - the homemade roti Milo...it was hard not to feel overwhelmed by the reminders of home.
Wherever you are travelling from, it's well worth the trip to Sijori!
Loved it...really good Malaysian food! Spent $100 for 3 big eaters...gorged on plenty of savoury dishes and dessert too. Everything we ordered was packed full of flavour and spice. Looking forward to heading back to try some other menu items...seriously though would not hesitate to go back just for the Nasi Goreng Kampung...that was a favourite. Throw a piece of fried chicken on top and you have yourself a nice and tasty meal.

Homecountry food craving fixed. Very authentic malay food and the staff here is very friendly too. Whats best is they also have vego option in some of their dishes. Extra point to that!
Happy to see another place in bundoora with lots of clearly marked vegan options! I tried the nasi lemak. It was really nice however I think the vegan fried chicken was cooked just a little bit too long as the outside was a bit too crunchy. I'd also love to see them use vegan fried egg! (you can get them from Vincent's vegetarian)
I'll definitely be back to try more things on the menu and bring my other vegan friend to try it as Malaysian is her fav and it's hard to get vegan Malaysian.
Tried both the Laksa Johor and Laksa Singapore in the same visit. Johor was interesting with spaghetti used as a base, topped with a delicious concoction of fish and bean sprouts. Loved the Singapore Laksa too - good amount of seafood and rich broth, perfect for a windy winter’s day washed down with teh tarik and coupled with warm, friendly service. Will be back to try other items on the menu!
Really lives up to its name tag as a hidden gem of the Northern Suburbs. Fairly low-key, casual atmosphere that provides you with a first-class culinary experience. Amazing, authentic Malaysian food that was super tasty and relatively inexpensive. The only thing that brought it down from 5 stars was a slight lack of flavour with the dry laksa and the jumpot jumpot. Other than that, everything else was brilliant and I am definitely keen to eat there again.
A gem in the north! They do authentic Malay cuisine and my faves will have to be their lontong lodeh, roti chanai and Nasi goreng Kampung. My Friend tried their dry Laksa Johor - it was weird at first having dry laksa being so used to the brothy kind, but the flavours were amazing! It was like a laksa "bolognese" - Kept going at it and cleaned it up! Defo will be back for more!
Love the ambience and such delicious authentic Malaysian food. Highly recommend the mee goreng and roti canai! Also the freed chicken is absolutely delicious, moist and perfect amount of crispy.

Living away from the city, you dont get much quality Malaysian. But this place is something special. Close to home and just yummy.
Id post a picture of the milo roti we shared but that was eaten faster than I could appreciate its good looks.
The food was tasty and presented well. The staff were welcoming. And absolutely loved the drinks and deserts menu.

This hidden gem offers authentic but different Malaysian food from what we usually have. The staff told us it serves cuisine from the Southern part close to Singapore. Flavoursome food, decent size and nice decor. Service was friendly and staff took time to explain about the food. We tried food recommended by the staff. The special dishes from the region and was happy with our choices. Location is not convenient from those in the South and East suburbs but if you lives near Bundoora, should check out this restaurant.
A nice find 8n the Bundoora area. Nice deco, clean and modern. Very friendly and attentive service. From the wait staff. Foods are excellent and I m dear to say they are among the top tier of Malay Indo restaurant s 8n Melbourne. Will definitely come back to try out other dishes!
A gem of a place... serving VERY authentic Malay-Malaysian food. Their Laksa is the BEST I have tasted in Melbourne and believe me, I've tasted plenty.....!! They have a Johor style laksa which I haven't eaten in more than 30yrs.....!! Desserts which I haven't seen yet in Melbourne before ...!!

Sijori | Polaris, Bundoora.
For those of you who haven’t yet heard of Sijori, it’s a cute little Malay restaurant located in Polaris, Bundoora. It’s fairly new, and prior to my visit I had heard some mixed reviews.
Each week, there are different specials. When I visited, I ordered the chicken special which was a combination of the chicken and prawns in a sweet and spicy sauce with rice, Roti with both fish and chicken curry, Laksa and a couple of their homemade special drinks.
I’m sure you guys think I say this all the time, but the food was delicious! The flavours pack a punch and the service was incredibly friendly and prompt.
If you’re a fan of authentic Malaysian cuisine, this is the place for you. Sijori offers a range of exciting and interesting Malaysian dishes alongside fan favourites, which guarantees that each visit will be different from the last.

My parents heard about this place through word of mouth and so all of us decided to come down and pop by for a visit. The whole interior of the place is beautiful, open space with rustic finishes and beautiful large windows which allow a generous amount of light inside.
I myself had the nasi tomato + ayam merah and it definitely gave me a huge wave of nostalgia. The food is DELICIOUS and we shared around the mee siam, roti bom, laksa johor wasn't for me but the flavours were apparently spot on, and seafood laksa was also amazing to eat. Teh Tarik tasted like it was bought off any hawker stall back in Malaysia. Bit of a time management/organizational issue with food timing / table waiting (some tables were left dirty for a while) but I'm sure this will all be improved with time!
I'll be back. Very pleasantly surprised to discover this little gem of a Malay (as opposed to a Malaysian) restaurant quite close to where I live. We ordered a roti jala as entree for the two of us, nasi tomato with ayam masak merah and laksa Johor. Superb job, Team Sijori. You made us Malaysians, and ex-s, proud! My only comment to Irna was that I would have personally liked a little more liquid gravy in my laksa. The sauce was great, and generous, don't get me wrong, but a little more liquid in it would have melded all the accompaniments better. As it is, I had mouthfuls of fish in my mouth most of the time. The ayam masak merah, what can I say? Probably the best in the southern hemisphere! And did I mention the teh tarik kurang manis was just as good as any Mamak stall in Malaysia? Very exciting discovery, can't wait to go back to try out the lontong, katong laksa, roti bomb...
Where do I start? The Karipap was great. A must to get if it is on the board. The roti is super delicious, super fluffy and just the right crispiness and crunch. No other place compares to the roti served here. The star of the menu has to be laksa Johor. You just can't get it anywhere else and nothing really compares to it. Fried kuey teow is also yummy, must say that it is better than most CKTs around.
Food portions are great and you can't get better value for money anywhere else.
Oh yeah, if it happens to be dish of the day, do try the fish head curry. And take home the leftovers as it tastes better the next morning.
As for the place itself, either you come early to get a table, or make bookings.
Everything about this place feels like malaysia. The food was excellent, very authentic. The owners were very attentive and provided detailed explanation to help us decide, the music playlist was a great mix and our kids could relax in the informal environment. It was easy on the pocket too as each dish was well priced. Heaps of parking available at Polaris shopping centre too which makes it an ideal restaurant for families.
I was really impressed with the char kwaey teow and nasi lemak. Notably, the noodles in the char kwaey teow dish was cooked well with a nice chilli kick. The sambal served with the nasi lemak was really good. However, the kuih lapis was dry and sirap/rose cordial drink lacks taste.

Now we're talking ... $15.40 Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang ... all good apart from the tough, missing that "dry" Beef Rendang tenderness.
Sweet & Spicy Sambal was the "glue" to the dish.

I think dining-in was the best option ....
Modern minimalist, straight forward, exposed concrete ceiling painted Black, a few timber plant pot lightings suspended upside down, a simple counter with an iPad far different from the "more" traditional home-style dishes offered through this kitchen window opening.
Sijori dishes out Malaysian/Indonesian/Singapore fusion centralised around the Riau Islands, that's uniquely different, dishes that are closer to home.
It was Melbourne Cup Day, jammed packed for lunch, we waited for more than 30 minutes for our take-aways; 2 x $16.90 Nasi Tomato Set (Tomato Rice Chicken) and $15.90 Kuey Teow Goreng (Char Kwee Tiaw).
I was so looking forward trying these Riau culinary in Melbourne, however I was a little disappointed, I think I've made the wrong choice of having them take-away.

Had the Nasi Lemak and Nasi Goreng Kampung. I think they use Sambal Belacan for the Nasi Goreng, which is great. Don't get that alot here.
Nasi Lemak was authentic and had good flavour. Would be great if they gave more sambal in the initial serving. :P

Been here twice in a month, tried out different dishes.
The roti definitely a recommendation, freshly made and nice texture. Love the banana roti for dessert, not too sweet but just right, not too sure is Monkey banana or not, I don't think so, if is monkey banana taste would be better. The roti with fish curry sauce was great.
The fried kuey teow, I asked to be spicy, not the Penang style fried kuey teow, which I wouldn't mind, I quite like this version too.
The curry noodle soup, personally thought not spicy enough, but not too bad.
Nasi lemak fried chicken, I think the fried chicken lack of marinated flavour, maybe also give more cucumber slices?
Would definitely come back to try out more dishes.
It's our first time visit and we all enjoyed the food. The lasi lamak tastes so nice and the dry lasak noodles is so special while I have never tried it before. I fell in love with it immediately. Their food is more like Singaporean-Malaysian cuisine. Not bad and we will definitely come back

This place is amazing! A cute little restaurant/cafe with amazing food! The laksas (dry and soupy) are full of flavour and the nasi lemak is a favourite with rendang curry. Absolutely don't forget to get some of their roti because it's fresh and perfectly crispy and soft. Delicious!
The staff are also lovely and very welcoming.
What a gem! Fantastic authentic Malaysian menu with lots of options you don't often see in Melbourne. The food was well priced and delicious and the staff were very friendly. High chairs and kids cutlery available. Recommended and we'll be back!
Really nice food for a great price. I feel they will only get better with time. The Friday special is such a great deal, you may have to remind them to bring out some of the dishes, but the food is worth the okay service.
Johor food doesn't get more authentic than this. As a Malaysian myself, I came to this restaurant bearing high hopes that it won't disappoint my expectations and boy it didn't.
It is not easy to find a proper Malay restaurant in Melbourne. Partly because I found some of the cafe operators to be non Malaysian themselves (hence they really don't know what Malaysian food is) and because of that, they mixed their menu with other cuisines e.g. HK cuisine or any other Asian picks.
This restaurant is operated by, owned by and employed Malaysians. We ordered laksa Johor (my favourite Johorean dish), grilled skate (menu of the day), laksa Katong, char koay teow and roti telur.
It tasted like home. All of them. Enough said. I will come back many, many times over. I've been thinking about their laksa Johor ever since. The best thing to have in this cold weather.

Lunch, dinner or Friday Frydays are all great.
So much flavour packed into every dish. Beef Murtabak (roti filled with omelette, beef, onion and all sorts of other goodies with amazing sides - I love the fish gravy) is one of my faves, but the seafood Laksa gives Laksa King a run for its money, for sure!

Delicious food! I had the stew, Lontong Lodeh. I had no idea what is was ordering but I'm glad I got it because it was delicious and I can't wait to try it again. I was with a friend who is familiar with Malaysian cuisine and after 2 visits she said that both dishes she tried were of high quality and very authentic.
Traditional, authentic Malay cuisine done right, with an upscale cafe setting and price point to match. Portions are generous, which definitely helps. Enjoyed the nasi goreng, roti telur. Very busy crowd, booking recommended but the food is worth the queue. Would return.
The best Kuey Teow Goreng I have ever had in Melbourne! Since Sijori first opened we have been visiting on a weekly basis. Love the menu although it's quite small. In my heart Sijori deserves a solid five. Great food served by lovely people, what more can you ask for? The only reason for the -0.5 Is that the restaurant clearly needs more staff, as it gets busier and busier.
Solid Malaysian dishes served and this is what I call a proper Malay restaurant eatery.
My friend and I have been scouting for Malay food for years and when we came last Saturday night for dinner, it's was packed but got a table with service.
Had the beef murtabak, nasi tomato, nasi lemak and teh tarik. My friend and I were in heaven and we were satisfied.

Brought a chef here this mornings for lunch. We had four dishes. All yummy. My favourite was the roti kosong (plain Indian bread) with fish curry condiment. Service was great.
Hailing from Johor Malaysia myself, I couldn't resist patronising this Malay eatery in the far north of Melbourne's CBD, Bundoora. I brought 4 friends including two from Shanghai. We ordered nasi lemak (must), roti kosong with curry chicken and dhal, mee goreng (on request not in menu) and lakša Johor. All 5 of us loved all the dishes except laksa johor. Only I loved the laksa Johor having worked in JB, Johor for many years.
In detail, the sambal for the nasi lemak was my type: tasty and punchy.The beef rendang in the nasi lemak plate was tender and full-flavoured. The curry chicken for the roti was sublime. The mee goreng (I asked Irna the owner of Sijori to replace the kwei teow with mee). It was exquisite. Need I say more.? Yes! I'll be back in spite of the location of Sijori being 35 mins off 🗻 peak from Doncaster East.
Food is amazing here! Absolutely love Sijori! The Most authentic Malay food I have had outside Malaysia! Must try Nasigoren Spicy! Lovely and friendly staff! Yummmy!

Wow. Some of the best Malaysian food I've had in Australia. Limited opening menu (always a wise choice for a new restaurant). I tried the Nasi Lemak and roti chanai. Both were brimming with punchy flavours and freshness. Texture of the roti was perfect (made fresh daily). Authentic and well priced with attentive service. My only fear is the restaurant will not be large enough to cater for everyone once word gets out how good the food is.
