I had the best Burrito from here the other day! The staff were extremely nice and when they accidentally forgot to remove the onions from mine I had the Owner take the time out of his own day to personally deliver me a replacement (with a free nachos for my staff also). I can truly say that I have not received this level of customer service in my life. Thanks Ty for all of your hard work! Amazing food and out of this world customer service.

Excellent, fresh and zesty Mexican. Helped us choose and modify some tacos for my toddler who has several food allergies. Thoroughly enjoyable lunch without our usual worries. Highly recommend!
I'm a transplant from New York and I've spent a lot of time in California and some in Mexico. This is the best Mexican I've had outside the U.S. and Mexico. Love their delicious tacos and super friendly staff. A must eat on the Gold Coast!
Love this place, the food never disappoints!! Out fav being the steak nachos.... The corn chips are amazing. My partner is celiac and this food never give me any type of reaction which is always a massive bonus!! Staff are always friendly and pleasant.

Delicious! We are American expats that live on the Sunshine Coast. I grew up in Texas so tacos are life! The tasty taco struggle has been real since moving to Oz. Not exactly what you're famous for but dear god your sweet potato fries with that dipping sauce stuff is literally the best thing in the world.

Staff were really polite the whole time we were there and the atmosphere is chilled and cool. Tacos were really nice and hit the spot just right! The cactus taco (made vegan with no aioli) was really nice and fresh. My mother said that she was super impressed with her taco (steak) and the salsa verde that was accompanied on the side was really refreshing. Overall it was a yummy and fresh meal and I would definitely go back!

We had a hankering for Mexican on our trip to the Gold Coast and heard California tacos had been hailed their best. It’s actually located a few metres apart from another Mexican restaurant that is significantly cheaper. Hubby wasn’t convinced on paying twice the price but I much preferred the ambiance here.
I thought $24 for a burrito was pushing it considering we didn’t even have table service but I kind of understood when I saw the size of the thing. I opted for the fish one because of the mango pineapple salsa which appealed but it wasn’t particularly prominent.
We had a confusing moment having ordered the chips and sweet potato chips arriving, the differential refund of $5 (we were charged for the more expensive sweet potato variant) was not forthcoming until I asked and I was then met with ‘I’m pretty sure you said sweet potato’. Potato potatoe neither were needed anyway owing to the sizeable portion of the burritos and the chips were huge of their own accord too.
My mango daiquiri was delicious but I’m glad the nachos didn’t look overly impressive for if they had we may have ordered those too and been left with enough food to feed an army. When I saw someone eating them outside it initially put us off and lead us to explore the alternative up the road but I’m glad we ended up here, although I’d definitely recommended one burrito between two even if you are starving!
We had one burrito and one taco plate and it was great. The burrito was so big I struggled to finish it but was delicious definitely worth it. And our waitress, Michaela was so lovely and friendly and the overall service and vibe was great
Located on Gold Coast Highway close by to Burleigh Beach. It was a sunny day out and perfect weather for some tacos!
There is limited seating inside so be quick to grab a table as soon as one becomes available or you can takeaway and eat somewhere near the beach for al fresco dining. The service here is friendly and casual.
The portion sizes here are massive so if you bring your appetite along or share like we did if you’re not that hungry! We ordered a Taco Plate which includes two tacos of your choice served with corn chips and salsa. Went with The Original Fish Taco which had nice panko crumbed fish topped with fruit salsa, cabbage, aioli, and salsa on a corn tortilla. It was very fresh and had a nice flavour to it. The other taco was The Cali Taco. Tender steak with salsa, french fries, cheese, crema, and guacamole on a flour tortilla. Really tasty too.
Definitely worth a detour if you’re near Burleigh Beach and need some Tex-Mex.
Ordered vegetarian nachos and shoestring fries. The nachos had great flavour, just not too fond of the cactus personally however my friend did like that so I guess just a preference thing. The fries had good seasoning and were well cooked. Good sauce to go with it too.
Came to this place for a quick dinner and was pleasantly surprised by the size of their burritos and the deliciousness. Hands down best burrito I've ever had.

Really yummy Mexican food with great value for money. Their loaded fries and spicy prawn tacos are absolutely delish! The casa margarita wasn't to my liking unfortunately. I've tried many Mexican restaurants but this is definitely the best one on the GC.
This place really was just ok. Mexican is my favourite food so I did enjoy it, although it's quite pricey and nothing special. For Mexican I prefer Montezuma's.
A scorching day with tacos on our plates, turquoise waters behind us and a warm sea breeze- this is our Californian love affair with California Tacos. Our usual rendezvous is a mix of tacos and a burrito. For Red Macaron, a Pollo Asada Taco – spice marinated chicken with rojo salsa, avocado and topped with fresh tomato salsa. Mine, a Nopales Taco of sauteed cactus, beans, corn, carrot, shredded cabbage and topped with aioli and fresh tomato.
Had the Nachos with Guac last night with my partner based off a craving. I must admit while waiting to receive my food I was totally prepared to be unimpressed, based off my previous experience there just after they opened, the high prices, and the interaction at the counter. After having lived in San Diego for years with incredible Mexican food for dirt cheap I have very high expectations. But I have to say the both of us were incredibly impressed with the nachos, flavour, loaded layering, and perfect corn chips. SOO GOOD, will definitely go back for that!! Also left my purse in the bench and the waitress chased us down the street to return it! So a well rounded great experience!
One of the best restaurants in Burleigh! The food is great and not to pricey if your looking for quick tasty food! Have to recommend the cheesy Mexican chips!
Best tacos we have ever eaten. Owner operated by two of the friendliest guys you would want to meet. One from California, the other straight from Mexico. Lots of alcohol as well. Can't wait to go back.
California Fries. An awesome amount of food. My wife and I each ordered a taco alongside this and it was too much for us to finish. Absolutely delicious too. The tacos were the best I've had since moving to Australia about 2.5 years ago from
Canada.

Tacos made by Mexicans. Having lived in California for 3 years and having been to Baja Mexico, I was sorely disappointed with Australia's take on Mexican. This is the first place I have found in QLD, NSW, Vic and WA that is authentic. Glad it was in my backyard.
I've introduced upwards of 30 people to this place who've introduced more. 2 tacos ($10) is usually enough, 3 if I'm starving. They load the tacos with filling. Admittedly the quality goes down when the Mexican chef is having an RDO, but it's still better than anything on this island.
I have eaten at this restaurant on several occasions and have found the food and service to be first class and great value for money. I must add that I am astonished to hear that Wahoos Fish Tacos (down the street) are offering a discount to any of their customers who submit a poor review of California Tacos. You would have to be pretty desperate to do that. Why don't they just try to produce decent food? I guess the answer is THEY CAN'T!!
Diana. We found the food & the service here great. Definately no whingeing about the serving sizes either , we couldn't finish ours there was so much. A huge serving of californian fries which we thought would have been better had the topping been served as a side to dip the chips in. As it turned out the chips went soggy under all that sauce. Same with the tacos, too much sauce ( I am not Manu from MKR!!) The sauce drowned the crispy fish & the veg in my tacos. Loved the two options of taco one with flour one with corn & the fact there were hot sauces to add if needed-. I needed- as all the sauces were pretty mellow for me!
Just had Fish Tacos at Californian Taco tonight with beers. Delicious! Best fish tacos we have had in years! Yum! Will definitely be back!
