Review The Foodrinkery - Burwood East

iNX
Turned up on a quiet Monday prior to the afternoon after school rush during my bike ride and was the the only customer at the time. Ordered a Super Boost Smoothie,a small latte and a Nutella brownie. All came out at the same time. All tasted really good. But should have specified to have the latte and the brownie first prior to the smoothie. Like self opening door and can't quite remember if there was ambient music in the background. Price is fair and the service is friendly and efficient.

Cute little cafe on a residential street. Staff are really friendly, coffee is good and if you have kids the best part is the park next door which you can access from the outdoor area. While I was there, there was a childrens birthday party: adults talking over coffee, kids within view playing in the playground - perfect!
Luke Serrano
Really needed a quiet unassuming cafe to relax, let the kids play, enjoy really nice coffee and a good eggs benedict. Hit the spot. Thanks!

The eggs are decent if I was being generous. Imagine ordering a toasted brioche bun with bacon eggs and letuce with smashed avo and you get a burger made of these stuff. Not really appetizing. Then you dig into it hoping for a good bacon, egg and avo combo and you get a mushy mix that tastes like you wish you hadn't put that abomination into your mouth. The coffee is good, but food not so much. The hash brown had to be made better, far far better. Hope to give it a try in another 3 months to check if they have made amends.

Great little cosy place to just enjoy a cup of coffee or brunch while the kids play in the open play area at the back of the cafe or in the playground just outside the cafe.
COOPER MAYES
Very friendly and caring staff. Will definitely be coming back here. Thank you for taking time to cater for my dietary requirements

A great place to eat, drink and let your kids play. There is a spacious courtyard out the back where your kids can play and you can bring your dog

Great food and coffee with a nice indoor and outdoor area.

rang and booked a table for 12 with a couple of high chairs. No problems, really accommodating nothing a problem. Awesome food and great staff and the park rules for little kids.
Virginia Gissara
Nice place for a delicious brekky, good choices on menu to choose from and great coffee !!
George Gerakis
Beautiful place owned by beautiful people....Good luck guys!!

Sorry to say guys, but the coffee is nowhere near as good as it was. Was my fave little local!

Love being able to sit out on the grass with my baby and still have some food and drink :)

Love this cafe! Definitely make an effort to get here x

Delicious. Can't wait for the next mothers group catch up!
Therese Vijverberg
I really enjoyed my dish! Definitely loved the butter grilled toast, that added to the enjoyment of the flavour. Everything was fresh and loved the taste of the mushrooms!
Unfortunately they didn’t have a caramel latte but did something else, it was nice but super sweet.

Great location for a family as it's right next to the playground. I went here around 1:30 pm and few menu were gone. I had chicken toast sandwich and coffee which were average. It was nothing special.
Jessie W.
Great location, direct access to the playground from the backyard.
Choc Pudding
Very nice cafe for family with little kids. It is pretty cool that the backyard connects to the park. They also have toys at backyard for the kids to play. Went on Sunday noon and we had the whole backyard to ourselves! Staff are friendly. Have to say the menu is pricey and they had a few things unavailable that day. Had rock n roll which i thought will be a roll/wraps but it was almost look like pancakes made of roti with toppings like eggs, pomegranate, sour cream, smashed avo. I have to say it was yummy, the roti is nice and fluffy. Everything in it is nice, tomato chutney gives a sweetness to it. The only thing is it costs $18 which i think it pricey for the portion. But for the uniqueness of the place, definitely good place to go with little kids.
Manishka’s Foodie Diary
Cute little kid-friendly cafe in the suburbs! There is access to a park next door to keep the kids entertained too. We tried the Duck Benedict and the bbq duck poke bowl and found both dishes to be 7/10. The poke bowl was very filling and I enjoyed all the different textures in the dish. While the food is tasty and the staff was friendly, I found that the tables weren’t cleaned and there was a layer of dust on our table which is the reason I gave it a 3*!
Burgers Of Melbourne
A kids heaven! With the editor outside entrance directly onto a park playground as well as a range of toys themselves, this is a great venue for parents with young children. Food wise, we ordered a smoothy, eggs Benny and sushi bowl. Eggs Benny was good, the duck rather than pork gave the dish a little difference which I liked. The smoothy was a little pricey for the size but had some good flavours. The dish that needed a little work was the sushi bowl, it was topped with BBQ sauce which completely took over the dish. I would come back :)
Bite The Looks By BHA
Its a good start to have a breakfast with a mix of asian and oz feels to it. I have ordered Sushi bowl and duck benedict! It tastes amazing! For someone who does not eat vegetables as much as me, can try their sushi bowl! It was delicious like sushi rolls that was been remake. The place itself was like home and quite noisy due to near childrens playground. Overall, good food! #BHAsFoodDiary

Upon entering this cute suburban cafe, we found the interior to be quite playful and kid-friendly. The colourful and fun decorations created a warm and welcoming atmosphere in this little space, although we were informed that there was a lot more seating around the back.

Great little cafe.
I actually used to work here as a chef and I know first hand the food is done well and coffee is great.
I came back to check out this oddly located cafe and it was still the same.
Nice food, good coffee, lovely staff.

I was looking forward to visiting this establishment after seeing photos of the food (especially the loaded fries) and because it opens up to a park.

As it was a large group I booked ahead. Seems like that was superfluous as a table wasn't prepared for us anyway. We requested to sit outside so the kids could utilise the play area and eventually head out to the park for a play.

Unfortunately, the service was lacklustre. At one point I wasn't sure the waiter would come out for orders. The food didn't come out together so some ate while others waited.

The food and drinks were decent. However I was floored that they don't do anything fried. Like chips. I had the beef burger. Without fried chips I felt somewhat unsatisfied.

The outdoor seating and play area needs an upgrade. It was nice that the cafe opened up to a playground for the kids.
Live2Eat
Cute little cafe in suburban streets. Backs on to a park which is convenient for kids to run around but you can’t really be in both places at once - we left our stuff at the table and went to the park and came back to finish our smoothies- the staff seemed ok with this!

The food was very good, as was the coffee and smoothie. The location near a park and child friendly theme with play area inside and outside is an excellent idea with potential.
But the place looks tired and in desperate need of sprucing up- the outdoor play area is worn and equipment looks like hadn’t been wiped down in a very long time and was looking dusty / dirty. It’s also quite crowded in the back with 2-3 tables + play area - it was a bit of a squish despite the cafe not being busy. So in practice it didn’t quite work as a play area + cafe but the adjacent park made it a good visit for kids anyway

With a courtyard that opens out on to the local park and playground this little gem is ideal for parents and kids to be able to run a muck in the park, while mum and dad supervise with a coffee.
DamoForce Food
Off the main streets in burwood, comes this nice little cafe. The staff were super friendly but service of food was slow. The food though made up for it being quite tasty. Loved the smoothie bowl!!
Misscleanliving
Absolutely loved this place!! They've got something for everyone. My personal favourite, the pokè bowl and smashed avo! Absolutely packed with flavour and super delish. Very friendly staff too 👍🏻👍🏻
Loz Arthur
Nice enough cafe. Appears to be a poorly refurbished milk bar. Staff weren't friendly - were sitting down for 10 minutes before we needed to hail someone down for a menu. Food wasn't overly great either. Ordered the veggie focaccia. Couldn't finish it as it was dripping in oil. Won't be heading back sadly.

This place has gone downhill with the new owners taking over. The floor had scraps of food everywhere and no one bothered to clean it. The coffee was OK but the range and quality of food is poor. The new owners don't seem to have any idea how to run a Melbourne-style cafe.

Dropped by with a friend on a quiet Tuesday lunch break. The parking out front was non-existent due to roadworks but the staff were apologetic when they told us we may have to wait 10 minutes or so for coffee given that the water had temporarily been shut off. No matter, we ordered lunch first. Food took quite a while to come out, given we were the only two seated in the cafe at the time. My smashed avo with bacon came with a few left-of-centre extras that helped push the overall dish up - feta, dukkah, beet hummus, pomegranate seeds, alfalfa sprouts and a poached egg seem like an odd combination but it worked fairly well. My friend's Wagyu burger was apparently tasty and came with a generous portion of chips. May return once roadworks are complete but it was fairly noisy when work was going on.

I ordered off uber eats for a quick hangover fix. I ordered the Avo Smoothie and the fried chicken burger. The smoothie was delicious and I highly recommend it. Although when I got to the burger, I opened the box to be surprised by an electric green bun. After a bit of hesitation I took a bite and it too, was delicious. I spent a majority of my morning however wondering why the bun was green and not the normal 'bread' brown advertised in the picture. I also didn't request to have a funky green bun holding my fried chicken together. Again, everything was superb - I'm just merely perplexed!

Awesome little cafe tucked away in a residential area of Burwood. Me and my mate both had the Wagyu beef burger. It was more of a rissole type patty than most beef patties out there but it was actually really good and wasn't overdone with herbs like most out there. The buns were Noisette buns and they were perfect and all the ingredients were fresh! Good jalapeños too! We shared a plate of the One + Piece fries as well and definitely left with a completely clean plate. Some of the best going. Coffee is great here as well.
Waynes Burgers
What an absolutely fantastic cafe

Popped in this morning with a mate for some coffee and a feed

Ordered up a cappuccino
the wagyu burger
A side of one + piece chips
And an avo smoothie

Absolutely fantastic
Very unique style of burger but absolutely fantastic

The chips were amazing
Plenty of cheese
And a nice kick in the sauce

The avocado smoothy was AMAZING!!!
Did not expect it to be so good

And the coffee was 👌🏻

I absolutely recommend popping in for a breakfast/ brunch/ lunch

Fantastic!

The food was okay. The Green Brekky is a straight up ripoff of Harvest Blend's Super Green but it wasn't terrible. Wilted and soggy but not inedible. However, they served me what was honest to god the WORST soy latte I have ever had the displeasure of drinking. I don't know how you fail so badly at coffee by giving me what is essentially lukewarm burnt bean water and calling it a latte but you did it.
Elise
Ordered Green Breakie - Received a salad that was wilted, 1cm in height, drenched in I don't know what and looked old; as the girl said on the phone "I personally prepared that yesterday".
I didn't get any feta in my breakie like the menu said it would.
The manager said the kale is "bloody expensive" so "that is what you get".
Also, I paid $4 for mushrooms and only got one... wow
Might I add, I heard the girl explaining the issue to her manager before the crude manager picked up the phone; yes that is correct, I heard the laughing about my complaint and the odd *f word.
I don't understand how in a world of social media and online social media reviews, how one "manager" can allow food to go out to a customer like that - even when you said "I saw them put it in the bag and go".
Poor customer service, rude staff and terrible quality food.

I'd also like to add that the food in these pictures is as it was when I received it. Uneaten and untouched. Terrible.
Sam
Poached eggs were well ovee cooked so i had to send them back. They were very apologetic and re made the eggs.
Food took a long time to be served and we had finished our drinks well before our food came out.
Cute place but food and coffee were both well below average.
Narani Smyth
From the moment we arrived the staff were attentive and eager to serve us.
We ordered the breakfast bun and corn and zucchini fritters which were both delicious.
This local gem is great for families as well with a fantastic outdoor area at the back.
Highly recommend this place!

I wouldn't come back. While the service was fine and the coffee was ok I felt the place was really unclean. There was mess and old food everywhere and awful smells coming from some places. I had a blt which was ok except the aoli had way too much garlic it overpowered everything (and I only pecked at it anyway as I was afraid the food here would make me sick). The chips tasted like the oil hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I bought some cakes to take home but I'm not game enough to eat them.

My dining companion decided to have the ‘Breaky Bun – bacon, avocado, cheese, lettuce and house-made garlic aioli in a warm brioche sesame seed bun ($12.50)’ and added a fried egg for $2.50. The bun contained a generous serving of yummy ingredients which were complemented with lashings of the gorgeous aioli.

Having been a regular to this cafe since its inception, I have experienced both great and not so great.
After having been underwhelmed with a lower than average quality Croque Monsier, which used to be a specialty with the previous owners, I decided to give it a break for a while.
Having returned today the food though flavoursome took 40 minutes to come out, one dish at a time! One was a pre made bun and the other 2 dishes were simple toast, bacon and eggs.
It seems the chef has not mastered getting all foods out in one go. 40 min!!
AND to add injury to insult they charge $7.50 for 2 bits of toast!! $7.50!!
What a rip off!!!
I'm sorry guys. Thought I'd give you another go but you've done your dash!
The Whippeteers
Kitchy look and feel. Not really our kinda place. CONFESSION: We ALMOST DROVE OFF.....BUT!

ALL THAT CHANGED once we SIPPED the EXPERTLY made LATTE. W O W good!

We've forgotten the coffee blend, but CAN'T FORGET that COFFEE.

Ps the service was FRIENDLY, welcoming and VERY HELPFUL.

this cafe is not what it used to be, I hope things change and it improves for the better though. I used to come here every weekend. the new owners have jazzed up the menu which is great but my partner really misses the traditional big brekkie. I'm disappointed by the lack of healthy and allergy friendly options. on zomato they say they are gluten, dairy free, vegan options. there is one vegan option on the menu, the porridge. there are no gluten free and vegan options together which is disappointing. the only thing that I could make work was the veggie toastie on gf bread without the feta. it did not taste good. the gf bread was awful, a nasty cheap brand that tasted stale, not gf precinct as was used previously. the kale was not cooked properly. I would love more healthy gluten free vegan options to be present at this cafe and we will come back, quality gf bread makes a big difference. I loved the prana chai! I wish them all the best for the future and will keep an eye on the menu. good quality fresh healthy food will keep me coming back.

UPDATE ****October2016
Just had lunch here. They're using GF Precinct bread!!! Yay. I had the same roast veggie toastie, it now has mushrooms and sun dried tomatoes, a great addition but it was wayyyyyy to oily, i feel queasy now after eating it. oil was dripping off sandwich. other than that a big improvement, service was very friendly.

The Foodrinkery is one of my favourite discoveries in recent times, and it is located in the fine surburb of Burwood. Sitting amongst a local strip of shops which is yet to be invaded by a Coles or a Safeway, the cafe has retained an authentic community vibe.
Sparkygirl
Unfortunately very disappointing. Nice staff and great freshly squeezed juice, but the meal took a long time to come, and to charge nearly $19 for the chorizo and potato croquettes is highway robbery. The croquettes (2 of them) were about 7cm long and filled with mashed potato. There was no sign of chorizo in either flavour or appearance, except for two tiny pieces about 2mm x 2mm. This is an average suburban cafe charging upmarket prices. Not impressed.
කෑම ලෑස්තියි (Food Is Ready)
A cute little cafe hidden away from the busy roads in Burwood. They have a great menu with lots of creative options. I started off with a prana chai which was good. I ordered the waffles with slow cooked pulled pork and poached eggs with hollandaise sauce. It was great. My friend had the brekky bun which was yummy too

The Foodrinkery is tucked away in small lanes of Burwood's seemingly endless suburbs, one of the few niche cafes in the area. The service was quick, even though the waiter forgot our snack until we paid he was very apologetic. The food itself was so nicely placed & even was brought out pretty fast. The coffee is also quite nice. 👍

Hmmm my previous review seems to have disappeared into the mists.. However I need to make an update anyhow! My first visit was average at best, basic food items, odd ambience, nothing likeable. Second time around, I visited with my dad for brunch and had the Bircher muesli with a poached pear. Wellll this was a huge improvement in my previous foodrinkery feed - sweet but not overly so, great range of healthsome ingredients, this muesli came with fresh Greek yoghurt, shredded Apple and a gorgeous vanilla pear. I couldn't even finish it, and enjoyed it despite not being a sweet tooth. There you go, maybe one bad experience should not define a place! My dad also enjoyed his brunch and fresh juice (he's all into that now apparently)
The Spice Adventuress
A lovely café tucked away in the bylanes of Burwood, The Foodrinkery ticks all the right boxes for me when it comes to a neighbourhood café. Located adjacent to the Wattle Primary School and Spectrum dance school, the café enjoys an enviable location which also makes it the perfect spot for the neighbourhood to stop by for a relaxing cup of coffee and some amazing food.

My experience today was an expensive one, $23-50 for 2 serves of raisin toast a cup of tea and a mug of cappacinno. Got to think about it later toooooooooo dear. So I will not be returning. BEV.

Would like to change my previous review. There has been a change of ownership and the Food Drinkery has def improved. The burgers are much better. Only criticism would be the limited menu. Would prefer 3-4 more options.
********************************
Previous review before ownership change
I live on the street and the only reason why I come here is convenience. The food here is sub-par and over-priced compared to other

The only reason this place does so well is because of the traffic from both the primary school and he dance school. The photos here on zomato look 10 times better than what you will find there now. Perhaps they have become a little complacent? I've eaten here a number of times now, and it really is hit and miss. I'm pretty sure most of it in not done in house, but brought in.
Sure they have a nice courtyard, but that only partially makes up for the fact that you pay premium prices for something that can be bought in a supermarket for half the price.
Coffee has also been hit and miss. I was so excited to have a long Mac done with that touch of cold milk, and they gave me a double shot, but it was burnt. Which meant I was winching at every sip rather than enjoying every sip.
It's not all bad, some of the food is tasty enough, I just wish more of it was made in house and would come out looking like the photos presented here on zomato.
Burwood is not prized for its culinary delights, let alone cafe culture, but I'm more likely to save m6 money to go the next suburb over and eat in Ashburton. Same prices, doesn't have the park next door, but much more satisfying and friendly.
Cindi Blaze
The service at this café is shocking. My girls take dancing lessons next door so it is convenient to get a coffee there but the wait is always over a half an hour and has been up to 50 mins on a single coffee! From now on I will drive elsewhere as I am majorly disappointed each and every time I go there. The staff are unapologetic and audibly take out frustrations on the customers or each other. The vibe there is tense and confused. How hard can it be to make a cup of coffee?
The World Loves Melbourne
The Foodrinkery is a first class cafe in Burwood (one of the best in the eastern suburbs!); serving up excellent brunch and tasty dishes and boasting a stunning family friendly courtyard out the back (next to attractive grassy Wattle Park with a playground). The cafe is a hero of the burbs and is an achiever in an area with few other quality cafes. The World Loves Melbourne noted a steady stream of locals through the day, and extra busy on weekends. This is a place to catch up with friends and relax in the tranquil and stylish setting in between Wattle Park and a trendy dance school.
Ramieleatsshootsandleaves
It's a cute place that I'm sure does well for those going to-fro the primary school.
Staff were friendly, and waiting time was good.
The food was okay, and coffee had room for improvement.

I've frequented this cafe many times as its location is fantastic for people with kids. Right next to a park. Today was my last visit and this is why. They have an A frame on Warrigal Rd stating they make 'the best coffee in town', well, they do not. Mediocre compared to the real barristers in Melbourne. The service is what really drives me crazy! The owner seems either very confused or agitated with any simple requests. One of the male staff members gives major attitude and looks put out to serve customers. Big hint, don't go into the service industry if you have minimal idea of how to serve and please avoid the suburbs if kids and mums annoy you. This ain't Chelsea, NYC!! I didn't order a cup of 'I don't care'.
Mr Killer
So was reading an article on of all people, the lovely Karen Knowles and she recommended their coffee so I thought... why not. Thank you Karen. Nice call. Ignoring the dishwater temperature "cold" water ( really? ) this lovely tucked away café hit the mark. I love a café who will modify their menu to suit their client. The chef kindly threw my scrambled eggs, spinach and mushrooms on to some Dr Marty crumpets instead of the old boring staple of toast. Yum. And Karen was spot on about the coffee. Parking can be a bit tricky during school pick up and drop but well worth the effort.

A little gem in a sleepy, unsuspecting part of Burwood. Its location next to a park is definitely a summer-time bonus. The cafe itself is best described as quaint and cosy, with comforting touches like mix-and-match cup and saucers and homely decor. The menu is short and sweet, though the fact that a couple of delicious sounding meals were marked as not available was a bit of a shame. However, I had the chermoula eggs which was beautifully done. There is a clear Mediterranean influence to the whole cafe. On top of that, service was excellent - both staff were very friendly and welcoming from the moment we stepped in. All in all, an unexpectedly lovely place that is worth the visit.
BellaItalia
Nice little cafe just off Warrigal Road. Friendly and welcoming staff, delicious tea cakes and coffee was excellent. A great find off the beaten track.

Nice coffee, friendly stuff, a hidden gem of Burwood, a place must to be! The venue is much bigger than I expected with a wonderful court yard out the back.

I have been frequenting this place for a few years now, partly because it is easy with kids to get take away and eat on the park next door and also the food has been decent. Today I met my sister in-law for lunch there with with our kids. After ordering, some of our food came out within 15 mins and we waited for a hour for the rest. My sister in-law went inside and asked about it and the girl said she hadn't put it through, my sister in-law came back to grab her purse. I said that I thought I'd already paid for it, so I went back in and asked if the girl could add up our order again because I thought I'd already paid for it all. The girl seemed very annoyed that I had asked. I was confused, but she had obviously missed the items from our order entirely in the first place. When she'd told me how much it was, I apologized and said, sorry I thought I'd paid for it and is go get my purse. I was a bit put off that she seemed annoyed at me. I felt I'd been polite. So we decided not to re order our food and started to pack the kids up.
A few minutes later the girl came into the park with my coffee and asked if we were putting the order through. I said, no thanks, the kids are tired and I think we'd better go. She apologized for the confusion and said have the coffee on the house. To which I said, are you sure? And she replied 'well I've made it anyway'. I thanked her and also apologized for the confusion, to be polite.
She left us then reemerged from the cafe to ask us if we'd like help with our rubbish. I replied, thank you, but we can manage. She politely said how cute the kids were and I felt we had resolved whatever issue she had had with me and our order.
She then came back again into the park. She asked if I'd had any of my coffee...which I hadn't done and she asked for it back... I said of course... And handed her the coffee... She took the coffee back. I don't know what the issue was. But perhaps they could have explained what I had done wrong rather than treating a paying customer so badly. I won't be returning.

The Foodrinkery is a lovely little cafe hidden down a Burwood side street. The food is good and the staff are friendly. The food options are traditional, but done well and the coffee is decent. There is also an adjoining park which can be directly accessed from the cafe. It is also a very child friendly cafe, and the staff will bring the food out to the side of the park if you are there with your children!
TinyMonki
Recent change in management is a success! With the previous management it seemed a chore for staff to serve you it know staff are lovely and genuine and the food is fantastic. We were really happy to come here and find new friendly faces and a fresh change in menu.
Michelle Yang
Fantastic spot with people with little ones. Food is good. There is a cute little lunch menu. Small but good. Yummy cakes. Baby friendly and there is a park right behind it so the kids can play afterwards.
Hayley Bloxham-parker
Always changing staff. Food is ok but the owners obviously are flustered with the young ones working and micro managing is way over the top. I sat there for a good hour watching and while it would have been a nice little spot to relax and have a coffee, I wouldn't be going back
In a hurry. Sorry

This is a cute little brunch cafe hidden in the neighbourhood of Burwood. Staff are local and are very generous and genuine. Great place to grab a coffee as well

used to be much better. totally gone down hill. went there ages ago and loved it, but different vibe now and it seems that whoever took over it is not doing a great job

We went for lunch and it was lovely. I had the blt and just expected it to be standard fair, but it was amazing! So tasty. Loved it. Will go back.

Lovely suburban cafe! The stuff are really friendly and always smiling, this family cafe serves really yummy food, make sure you taste the burgers there, always a good special on offer! Great coffee, delicious healthy food I will be going back

Ive been coming to the Foodrinkery cafe for a few months now and love it. The service is excellent, the food delicious and the cafe decor is retro and very welcoming. They have campos coffee which is a boutique superior blend coffee which I love. I recently had the chicken burger which is a must try!!!! The special board changes regularly which I love about this cafe. Highly recommend .

This is the second time I've visited Foodrinkery, with the first time being over a year ago. They've changed hands and the experience was quite different. Don't get me wrong, it was a very pleasant visit. The staff were friendly and the coffee made by Paul had a smooth robust flavour rivalling any other decent botique cafe. The biggest difference I found was in the menu. There were a lot of quirky inventive dishes previously that would have put Foodrinkery on the cafe map, now the menu has been simplified down to your basic cafe fare: bread, cereal, the usual egg dishes, toasties and standard big brekky. The prices remain reasonable, but it does feel that some of that uniqueness tied with visiting a botique cafe has been lost. That being said, the food was prepared well and had this been my first visit, I may have scored it higher. A decent local that remains popular with a kid friendly crowd.

The Foodrinkery - a little piece of somewhere else!. You know what makes a fantastic cafe? A great attitude and a smiling face! The people that run the Foodrinkery - Tina, Paul and the Team are outstanding. Always knowing you by name and your coffee is so superb, as they take the time to get to know you.
Seriously the most wonderful place to eat and drink; whether it’s a long & lazy lunch or even perhaps for a quick catch up and a mug of their smoothest coffee.

You have a choice of its tranquil and quiet, in touch with nature backyard; or its street cafe front tables; or maybe the warm and toasty inside, listening to the hum of its cafe kitchen. The food that is made from this quaint little kitchen is phenomenally yummy!

Total tranquility for a busy mother after a weekday school drop off, Some relax Father time after some sport, a blissful atmosphere for playdates with the kids, or a relaxed catch up with the family over Saturday brunch.

If you haven’t tried this place – you are missing out! It’s in our local Burwood area - but it feels like a little piece of somewhere else.

Not what it used to be. Although it is local, it is some months since I last visited Foodrinkery. The place looks fantastic with a renovation of the decor but the vibe .... Well sadly, not the welcoming place it used to be. My daughter and I asked if it were possible to have the croque Madame without mustard. We quickly realised we had requested the near impossible and offered to choose again or just have it with mustard. After a wait, they decided there was enough bread to provide our request but it was clear they were doing us a huge a favour. I should add, at this stage there was only one other customer in the place, quietly reading and sipping her coffee so we didn't hit them with a tough request at peak time and we made it amply clear it was just a request and not a demand. Food was good but not spectacular (maybe my feelings at this stage were coloured by the fact I knew I was being a bother, which was never my intent) and the coffee was fine.
As I left, I took a photo of the delicious looking cakes in the cabinet, to share with my girlfriends and maybe set up a coffee and cake date. I was (politely) requested to delete the photo if it wasn't for my own viewing only. It's ok, my girlfriends and I can probably find another cafe to go to. One where I don't feel a bother asking them to provide food and drink. I don't think I'll be back in a rush.
Delightfullytasty
The Foodrinkery has a really friendly, family style vibe to it, with a homely feeling to it from the service of the staff, to the mismatched plates and glasses that our food and drinks came in. There's a lot of quirky decorations up on the walls, and a ladder with small trinkets hangs from the ceiling near the middle tables. There's seating outdoors at the front and back of the cafe, which is great for the warmer weather. The menu at Foodrinkery isn't very extensive, but there's good variety of breakfast and lunch dishes to choose from, as well as a display cabinet and a specials board.

Best coffee and muffin in melbourne. I love their muffins, so fluffy, moist and yummy. And what best to accommodate a muffin than an excellent coffee!!!yum.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
Unexceptional food and service, charming country-like atmosphere, a great place to take the kids to as there is a park right next door.

I have been to Foodrinkery one occasion previously and was pleasantly surprised by how well, cheap their mains were. After these few years of weekend brunching, I have grown increasingly accustomed paying $20-25 for a meal and a coffee. you could almost manage this with $15 at Foodrinkery if you play your cards right.

Good service and great coffee. Service is great, all staff are curious and responsive. Visited again today, coffee was great. Very professional coffee, and knowledgeable staff, especially the owners. Food is top notch too, and at an excellent price point. Spread the word!!!

Good service as long as you don't get the owner. Coffee used to be good but has seriously gone downhill recently. Avoid when busy and check what they charge you on your bill

Meh.... Coffee was very slow to come out, but was very good!
Food was very average.
Park next door is nice, but otherwise, rather bland.

Chermoula Eggs. Beyond amazing!

Great Coffe and breakfast place must go

Nothing to fault. We live in the same street and are regulars here. While this may present a bit of bias.. this place has exceptional coffee, flawless and flavoursome food, and the service is the best I've had at any of the Melbourne cafes similar to it. Their specials are constantly changing which gives some variety but the stand alone menu is also very good. The kitchen sometimes but rarely has off days, but every kitchen does. Outside area has the best atmosphere; heaters in winter and umbrellas in summer. Don't have kids but the dogs love to play in the park adjacent. Keep up the good work guys!

Wattle we do at Wattle Park?. Traffic gridlock along Burke Road Camberwell, and in the dining area at The Baker's Wife, led us to beat a hasty retreat back home before we could eat. We found our lunchtime answer at the cleverly-named Foodrinkery, just near Wattle Park. A delicious multi-layered chicken burger, classy BLT (my quality marker for any and all cafes; this one passed the test) and a decaf latte saw us merrily on our way. Great casual eatery, just near home, with a sun-drenched doggy-friendly courtyard open to the park. Lucky us!

Hopefully just a bad day in the kitchen.. Had heard reviews saying this place is a lot better than it looks.. Granted. Sitting down, there were plants and wooden chairs, your token cafe look these day, however it all looked a bit run down. But I can get past that. The price was modest and hopes this could be our new regular were rising. I ordered the french toast with fruit and maple syrup and a chai latte. My friend orded the big breakfast with poached eggs and the salted caramel milkshake.
The male waiter was lovely when handing us our drinks and our food came quick enough. It was presented beautifully, however.. My toast was well under cooked and it was like I was eating raw pancake mixture, the fruit was more of a berry compote, but wayyy too sweet, I didnt even touch the maple syrup, and my friends eggs were so over cooked they were more like boiled eggs and the 'salted' caramel milkshake seemed to lack any salt (which is probably a good thing).
Having said all this, I believe these are minor changes and maybe we had a rough end of the stick. I'd be more than happy to come back to this place mainly due to its potential. It's nicely hidden away so it's not overcrowded like so many Melbourne cafes and moderately priced, would be a good place to get some reading done.

Won't be going back. Very underwhelming, burger was way too big and the 'salad of the day' was a bowl of potatoes with a few beetroot cubes, the waitress told us it was a grilled veggie salad, no grilled veggies in sight
Won't be returning

Wow! Amazing breakfast! Full of flavour and love!

Super adult and kid-friendly.. Always a favourite when the kids are in tow. Great coffee, city-smart food for me, opening onto a cute little park and really kid friendly for the ankle-biters. About as good as going to a cafe with 3 kids can be.

Great little cafe in the burbs. It is a little unassuming place not where you'd expect to find a cafe. The only downside is that they're always busy! With that said the staff are very friendly and the food of good quality. Good coffee, good food and a nice atmosphere. 4.5 stars.

Went there on a Saturday for lunch / brunch with girlfriends. Sat outside with the heater on which was nice, the waitress was lovely and the food was great. The milkshake was a little small for the price and the same goes for the cakes. However overall quite nice

This place is awesome! It may look simple on the outside, but the food is great and the coffee is perfect! The staff are super accommodating! Love this place!!

I came on the weekend and had vegetarian greek style stuffed peppers and they were amazing!!! cant wait to come back, the staff are very polite and the cafe has a warm welcoming.

Used to be outstanding, now very average.. This place used be one of my favourite cafes in Melbourne. Now, despite the fact I live nearby, I choose to go elsewhere. The warm, friendly vibe, excellent service, delicious food (especially the great specials the Foodrinkery used to have), and beautiful decor have all disappeared or declined since the new owners took over. Such a pity.

Take my hat off to a great place!!!!. Have been coming to the fooddrinkery a few times now, today i had the chemoula eggs and my girlfriend had the pumpkin toastie both where tasty.
But the coffee was AMAZING. So we thought lets have another and wow creamy and right tempreture again.
Well done to the young lady with the glasses not only does she make a great coffee but shes always smiling. Her and the young man work well as a team.

My friend and I heard excellent reviews about the coffee and went over the weekend with the kids. They had a great menu, with gluten free selections and the kids enjoyed their Babycinos and toasties. The cafe was packed, but the staff were very friendly & accommodating.
I ordered the BLT & my wife ordered the Chermoula eggs. Our friends had the Baked beans & Brazilian special - absolutely Delicious!!
This is a great little cafe & we will definitely be returning.

Have again visited this place, they always give me such a warm welcome, it's like visiting friends! The cafe was busy, so my food was a bit late, but well worth the wait, and the coffee was good too. The place looked bright and the courtyard beautiful, everyone enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, especially the kids! Well done, keep up the good work!

What a shame!. The Foodrinkery WAS one of the best places around. It WAS my favourite brunch cafe! It WAS the place I would take anyone and everyone for a coffee or breakfast or bite to eat at any time they were open. The Food WAS beautiful, the service WAS friendly and timely and they got your order right. The menu WAS really well priced and the food unbelievable tasty. This little cafe had its own charm and character, the large tables, the flowers, the friendly smiles of the staff and the cute little clipboard menus with a modern day character to them.... I wish this wasn't all past tense. Somehow I keep returning to the food drinkery purely because it's close by however I probably should stop putting myself through the disappointment as this place is nothing on what it used to be since the change of hands. Each and every time I've been since the buisness changed the service has been extremely ordinary. There hasnt been a single time where either something has been forgotten, regularly had the wrong meals attempted to be served to our table or the staff has to drive out to the shops to buy more chai latte, just one of the many reasons you wait forever for food, waiters that insist on repeating the word 'skinny' before the latte you ordered even though three times you confirm with them you actually just want normal milk, but each time they seem to be hearing things and repeat 'so that's a skinny latte' ...no joke they said this three times to my friend. Were you trying to tell her she's fat? unforuntaely the food is no longer anything special. The prices have gone up. The menus are tacky laminated sheets and the atmospheres changed completely. Even the tacky kids mural on the outside wall changes the appeal. Don't get me wrong, I adore children but what more could kids want than an awesome park right besides a cafe where mums go to relax...not feel like the mural beside them is representative of a day care centre. The food drinkery used to have it all! Damien and Shona really knew how to run a damn good cafe and the reviews and write ups in Epicure and Good Food Guide really proved it. my advice to the new owners is, don't buy a cafe that's got one incredible name and hugely regarded reputation and then let the place turn to crap. At very least, don't ditch the things that gave the place character and put your prices up if you can't even deliver what everyone kept returning for. I can tell you there won't be any epicure or good food writeups, but worse, there won't be people returning. Goodluck!

Three strikes and out!. In the interests of fairness I tried The Foodrinkery three times.

First Visit. The food was quite good, took quite a while to come out, not as long as the people next to us though. Had that awkward moment when they ordered first and were starving, but our meal came out much earlier (by no means quickly though). Upon leaving we were overcharged more that $50. Weren't offered a breakdown of the bill, the only way we sorted it was by going back and querying the bill.

Second Visit. Gave up waiting for a toasted sandwich (or alike) after 35 minutes after ordering. Questioned where the food was as we had to go back to work and was told they could start toasting it now if I could wait 15 mins. It wasn't even very busy, they and obviously forgotten the order. Upon leaving (starving, with no lunch) was asked to pay for my one coffee. Poor form.

Third (attempted) Visit. 'Hi could I make a booking for this afternoon please?'. "Sure, we might have something then." 'So I have a booking?' "Well, we'll write it down but we probably won't have a table?" 'So you don't take bookings...?'

Slow and missing too many menu items. I really wanted to like this place but we got off to a poor start. We had to ask a number of times for our drink orders to be taken then the same for food. Sadly, a number of menu items had sold out...including the ones we wanted. Even my chosen milkshake was sold out! We had to scrounge up chairs...those stools weren't going to cut it. The service was insanely slow. Our order dribbled out very slowly without any apology for the wait. The food was good but, please, throw out the chipped plates. Two of us had plates with big chips which are both dangerous and unhygienic. Given the plates were op shop ones (at best - the previous owners of my house left a dozen of the same ones behind when they moved out!), you can afford to update them.

Will I go back? Maybe. Because I really wanted to like The Foodrinkery.

One word-AMAZING. The Foodrinkery gets my vote for amazing customer service, atmosphere and especially their divine food!! Im a very "picky" person so you can imagine my delight with the wholesome flavours and fresh food used by the great and always smiling staff. If you haven't been to The Foodrinkery I think the time has come for you to go!! Mark my words you will not be dissapointed!! I even follow them on instagram. Great work team!!!

Disappointing would be an understatement. Was eagerly anticipating my return to this place... only to find be sorely disappointed for the following reasons:
- Slow service - our patience was definitely tested, but surely 35 minutes is too long to wait for one serve of baked beans!? After being given two empty glasses, we had to help ourselves to a bottle of water which never arrived, despite the other tables having been served a bottle of water. Perhaps the wait staff were having an off day but it's the little things that contribute to the ambience and atmosphere this place used to be renowned for.
- Lack of quality - unfortunately the food sure ain't what it used to be. I could hardly recognise the tapioca, which used to be a favourite of mine during the previous ownership. It was undercooked and slightly hard. The dousing of coconut and the absence of any ginger and lime resulted in a bland flavour. It also didn't taste fresh. After enduring a long wait for the baked beans, they came with a miniscule serving of bread (half a slice).
- Lack of variation on the menu - Missing the old spark and the new menu does not offer any new additions other than burgers (a bit more diversity and variation would be welcome). Think lamb ragu's and subs, as well as the delicious soups that used to be on offer under the previous owner. Also on a side note: $7 for a freshly squeezed juice seems hardly reasonable.

I will reminisce over what this place once was - quirky atmosphere, friendly staff, and fantastic reasonably priced food. As a regular patron of the former owner, I was open-minded and willing to give the new management a try but having experienced the changes, I will not be back.

Tasty. Loved the coffee, the food and the service with smiles!!! We went for lunch on friday and the young dark hair waitress suggested that we try the burger and it was fantastic! Definitely be back :) yummy!

Delicious!. A really great place, love the breaky/brunch and delish little cakes! such a great outdoor area which opens up to the park next door - great vibe!

Used to be a regular haunt before it changed hands! Have tried it twice and there will not be a thrice.
Food was average to below. Service was also not up to scratch.

Great setting and okay service but both the food and coffee have gone severely downhill since the change of hands. Gave it another go today to see if it had improved post change of hands. Used to be our local favourite, but now we would choose to go elsewhere.

Disappointing. Waitstaff were unfamiliar with the menu and forgetful. Went in a group and everyone got their meals at different times, and some orders were forgotten and mixed up so waiting time was ridiculous. Food was good but not worth 20 minute wait

I've been here twice now, both times for brunch and both times have been disappointing. Service was nothing to praise about not friendly but not rude either. Really underwhelming food with no presentation. Whipped avocado on toast was literally just 2 pieces of toast on a plate with whipped avo on one piece. Beef burger, seemed like the pattie was store bought and not homemade. I would probably only go back here for a coffee as it is the closest to my house.

Absolutely Delicious !!!. Discovered this gorgeous little place today and I highly recommend it!
ordered the burger of the day (Chicken) it was absolutely delish! YUMMM
Cappuccino was beautiful too :) Lovely friendly staff also!
Very pleased :))

Disappointed in the changes. I'm really sad to review this place as I used to LOVE it. The changes have ruined it for me.

- minium charge for epftpos - why introduce this when there is no atm anywhere near by.

- The service is slow. 7-8 minutes to get my drink today when there was hardly anyone else there.

- The fun, vibrant staff have all left/not been given shifts. The life and soul has really gone from The foodrinkery.

I really wanted to continue to love it, but whereas I used to go 2-4 times a week I'm there maybe once every few weeks now.

:-(

Sadly not a favourite since changed hands :( lovely staff & vibe that made it such a lovely cafe have all gone & now quality of food & service very haphazard. The genuine relaxed friendliness combined with perfectly balanced service between eat in diners versus park take away mummy customers is gone. Sad :(
Amanda Wallace
Great coffee but disappointing food. No wow factor anymore! Croquet Monsieur and salads used to be great now just very ordinary. Used to be a favourite in area - so disappointed. Hope it was just an "off day" and it gets better.

What a treat of a cafe!. Stumbled onto this cafe unexpectedly with friends while looking for somewhere for breakfast in the area after seeing it on urban spoon. Coffee was great, staff were very friendly and the different breakfasts were all delicious. We will definitely be back. I recommend it to anyone who lives locally as its seriously my new fave cafe in the area.
