I have a lunch in sketches,food and coffee was very beautiful!!! Staffs are very friendly! But the dessert is abut sweet but overall are 90% ........ definitely going back for lunch
Cosy atmospheres inside the restaurant/café or, weather permitting, in the outside area. Very friendly staff and excellently prepared food at very reasonable prices. I've been there many times and always enjoy the experience.

Love the tempura fish- a must have from here.
The caramel custard ice-cream is delicious and so creamy!! Although the place is quite small and cosy, the service is very quick on their feet. Loved the waiter who was serving us, as he recommended us try the tempura fish and checked on us, till the very end. Such wonderful and lovely hospitality!

Tonight was my second time there. Last time that I went to Sketches Restaurant was 2 months ago and since then I was keep thinking about the steak! It tastes like heaven!

I found out about Sketches Cafe from Instagram. We had lunch here the week before Christmas. It was pretty busy but the staff were attentive to us and food came out quickly. We had the:
1) Chicken Schnitzel with Asian slaw on ciabatta bread - this was an average dish because the chicken was over-fried making the meat very solid.
2) Sweet Chili Prawn with Vietnamese Salad - on the flipside, this dish was great. Prawns were big and fresh, the salad itself was tasty. Perfect ingredients and flavour combinations, though the sauce may have been a bit too sweet. I loved the peanuts and shallots for additional crunch. Would eat this again!
This is a really great cafe. Just up the rd from Deakin at the set of shops closest to Station St. Have been there before only a couple times ages ago and it didnt stand out to me. However, this Thursdays lunch completely changed that!! It was great! I ordered the Morrocan tagine with beans, spinach, cheese and a poached egg. I added bacon but wasn't 100% necessary. Came with a Couple of slices of dark rye bread and I bloody loved it. Breakfast menu til 3pm is a win win. They have a cute little unassuming courtyard out the back which is lovely. The only thing was the long black was terrible. No coffee taste at all as it was too watery.

Found it on entertainment book and great for value with 25% off. Scramble egg on my big breakfast worth 4.0+. Friendly staff. Only notice the backyard seating after paying and that look more relaxing than indoor.
I went to with my husband and friends for drink and some nibble.We sat on the back outdoor area. We had salt and paper squid and mid rare beef( it was while ago) we share both and both of the meal were very nice. I would love to go back for dinner sometime.
Sunday. Popped in for a quick coffee. Busy place, really welcoming, good coffee and they were fully booked but made the effort to accomodate me. They must be doing something right! I will be back..

I do like the burger and their bread. Also, coffee is very nice. I came here with my friends. They also ordered lamb meat which is not bad. The enviroment of restaurant is relaxed.
Love love love. Seriously the best steak my hubby and I have ever had. Just love that it's relaxed for dinner and yet has a fine dining aspect as well.
Found this great cafe bar in Burwood. Very friendly staff and excellent cuisine. Loved it and enjoyed a really relaxing evening with my gorgeous wife. We will be going again.
Have been there twice recently for work lunches and had excellent experience both times. I have always driven past this restaurant as I live locally but never been in. The first time I ordered poaches chicken Vietnamese salad and the second time I had tempura fish with sobs noodle salad. The taste of the dishes were both excellent and serving size just right. The atmosphere in the courtyard is so relaxing, especially on a nice afternoon. I will be taking a large group there for lunch again this Thursday, looking forward to another great experience.
Found this place in my entertainment book app...glad we chose this place for dinner...food was nicely cooked and well presented...we didn't make booking just walked in on a Saturday night...lucky there was last table not being reserved.lol.
Cute and cosy little place with great ambience. I especially love sitting in the courtyard at the back - what a great spot for brunch. The smashed avo was pretty good tho I wish they had dressed it up a bit more. The bircher muesli was good too but would be substantially better if they added some crunch to it. The big brekky was your typical one, maybe not as generous as others I've had. But overall food and service was good

The pictures of the cafe•bar looked great, but the actual place can fit no more than 7 small tables. The menu looked like lots of great food though, although when we wanted pie, there wasn't pie. We wanted juice and there wasn't juice. We wanted an 'Eton mess' but they ran out of strawberries. The service was friendly, though we waited a long time till a waiter came. It might just be the day, but there was only one waiter. The fridge containing the sweets and desserts is a wonderful idea. Through the fridge we can see what we ordered so that we would not order something that we don't like. Overall the food tasted as it looks. The only downside was the things that they couldn't provide, but was still on the menu.
Sketches is a very personal and friendly restaurant. They will happily replace anything when you have dietary needs - Alan and his team are a great place to dine for an intimate dinner or larger gathering.
You tell a lot about a cafe by the simple avocado smash breakfast. This cafe does an awesome job. Quality thick bread with a healthy serving of fresh avocado.
Cute cafe that I had never noticed before but has definitely grabbed my attention now. Fresh crunchy buttered ciabatta toast with perfectly cooked poached eggs. The avocado, feta and mushrooms were all fresh and complimenting to the meal. Definitely recommend!
Awesome food, calamari was perfect and chicken schnitzel burger was amazing! Service was a little slow, but was a fairly busy day. Would definitely go back, highly recommended! :)

Complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic was a nice touch.
All 4 mains were flavoursome and beautifully presented.
Vegetable side dish was a terrific version of mixed winter greens.
Throw in BYO and voucher - fabulous value - I hope more people frequent Sketches for dinner!
Visited for the first time on the weekend and we enjoyed a late breakfast. Coffee was just OK but will gladly return in future for the food, which was absolutely delicious! I would also like to mention the window into the kitchen, where I was seated - it was fun to watch the dishes being prepared...
First time having meal here. Before I usually go to those Chinese restaurants near deakin. For next time if considering having lunch near uni, I would definitely choose sketches. From outside it looks pretty ordinary, but the taste surprise me compare to the outlook. Love the creamy taste of apple cake in the jar 😆 Recommend the apple cake In the jar 👏 the Sunday roast for today is lamp the meat is pretty soft😍.
This place had excellent food. Would highly recommend the Breakfast Bruchetta as it was a very generous serving & extremely tasty! The cafe/restaurant appeared quite dark inside however there is a lovely courtyard out the back. Would come back again.

nice relaxing breakfast and most importantly very tasty! i had the smashed avocado with poached eggs. some places ruin the eggs by using too much vinegar. Sketches poached eggs were perfect. Coffee served in large home style mugs. nice touch over the standard glass that so many places use. will be back if im in the neighbourhood again.
Amazing place to eat. Mostly quite with a really really nice outside are. Food is unexpectedly good. Been here a handful of times and it ticks all boxes.
Nice and cosy place. Was expecting it to be like a casual sort of restaurant but it has a bit of fine dinning touch to it. Staff are friendly and approachable. Food is amazing though a bit pricey, I think it's worth it.
Was a beautiful morning in the lovely outdoor garden! What a great idea. Staff were friendly and food delivered quickly. I had an alkalising smoothie although I found it tasted more like a juice then a smoothie, and muesli. Both were delicious though!
You can't go past a simple and comforting Sunday roast at Sketches Cafe. The lamb roast was perfect for a chilly Sunday afternoon. We also ordered the pie of the day (chicken, leek and Swiss cheese) and the fish tempura salad. Both were great. Service is also friendly.

Great cafe! Delicious food and friendly staff. The prices are reasonable and servings generous. Definitely worth stopping in! The chicken schnitzel Turkish roll is a winner.
We often come here for their delicious breakfasts, however tried their dinner menu last week for mums birthday. I wasn't even sure if they were open for dinner but what a pleasant surprise. It feels like a completely different place at night; in a good way. Great ambience, fresh, flavorsome meals at decent prices.
I highly recommend you give it a try for dinner, easily just as good if not better than their day service !
My husband and I recently celebrated our birthdays here with our family in the Atrium out the back. Even though it was in late June, the room was very warm and comfortable. We had 25 guests. Alan was extremely helpful in all the lead up planning and on the night. All the staff were lovely. The meals were great, the pork was absolutely delicious, great crackle! Generous sized serves for both entree and mains and they accommodated orders for the children too. We didn't try the desserts as we took a cake. We will definitely be back to try some other things on the menu. Great that we could BYO our wine as well.
It was lovely sitting out in the 'atrium' with the heaters on the cold morning that we went to Sketches. The service was fantastic and food was great. I had the burger! Great coffee too!

Delicious, really well presented food.. A fun night out ~ Date Night
My partner took me out to dinner last Friday night. We thought we would try something different, so she looked on urban spoon and found Sketches had good reviews.
Upon entering it was a small little nice restaurant, very cosy. We were greeted by a nice waiter who offered us a choice of the 2 seater tables. Once seated he offered us the wine list, and then menu. He was very polite and made nice small talk. We looked at the menu and decided we would share a main and an entree. When the waiter came back, we asked him his opinion on what was the best recommendation to go with. He was very helpful and recommended the pork belly. So we ordered the pork belly main and the salt and pepper squid entree size for us both to share.
As soon as we had finished ordering the waiter brought us some bread and poured oil into a dish to go with it.
The bread was a nice starter to nibble while we waited for our meal.
We didn’t have to wait long, and the meals were in front of us.
I started with the salt and pepper squid. It was well presented with a balance of the different colours. The squid aloe being a dark brown, almost black colour was different to regular aloe, however the waiter did point this out when we ordered it. None the less it was delicious. We had to be careful with the black aloe as it got aloe our teeth and lips, but was overall still a great dish.
I swapped with my partner and had some of the pork belly. It was still hot and well cooked. It was served with a cauliflower sauce and pear sauce with the pork. The sauces and the pork went well together. Although the cauliflower sauce was not my favourite, I did enjoy the pear sauce along with the pork belly. The pork belly had a lovely crunchy skin layer on top. All-round the pork belly was a great dish. It was well presented and tasted great.
Overall I preferred the salt and pepper squid, but only because I like salt and pepper squid over pork belly. We were so full by the end of the main meal that we couldn’t fit in dessert. However we did have a look at the desserts in the glass cabinet and they looked pretty delicious and filling! We had a really great evening, the food, quick and well mannered service and the nice small cosy restaurant. I recommend going there for an evening out. :D

Great Breakfast Place. After discovering Sketches we NO LONGER need to travel to Cbd on empty tummies, awkwardly move around while waiting in line at overrated breakfast venues and It usually turns to lunch when we finally got to our seats. Quality of food, service & price here is excellenteh ! Yes i am aware that it is not a proper word but somethings in life just can't be explained by the confinements of the English language. Will be back duh ~
A pleasant dinner. While the food didn't quite blow me away, it was still nice meal. The chef and staff were very friendly, and coupled with the lovely ambiance, made for a pleasant night without having to travel outside the suburbs.

Lovely Meals & Good Service. We found out about Sketches through the Entertainment Book and booked in to celebrate a friend's birthday lunch yesterday. It was our first experience of Sketches Cafe and each of us really enjoyed our meal. Between us we ordered the Tempura Fish with Soba Salad (fish very fresh, tempura batter light & airy, Soba Salad flavoursome); Calamari with Greek Salad (tasty tender young calamari rings, salad fresh & substantial), Steak Sandwich (done to order with tasty accompanying fillings and crispy fries). Coffees were great and lemon meringue pie was delicious. Service was attentive and accommodating. Look forward to trying other menu items in the future.
Hunger Local. Went to Sketchers for Sunday Lunch with family and friends we all enjoyed our meals, from the. French onion soup which was full of onion and in a lovely broth.I had the Sunday. lamb roast plenty of beautiful tender lamb with six deferent vegies,and a very tasty gravy. ,with mint jelly. Coffee was good,fresh squeeze juices and smoothies all great, but you most save room for dessert the Eaton mess was to die for plus the rhubarb and apple crumble was hot and plentiful. All in all everyone enjoyed lunch and definetly would return again.

Great night out.. Went to Sketches for birthday party. Six of us and we all were amazed by the food. Great service, friendly and boy option a bonus. We will certainly be returning. A fantastic night.

The breakfast menu didn't have as many choices as several other cafes, but you'll still find the popular items.
We had the Big Breakfast, Omelette Plus and Breakfast Bruschetta... Food was yum, and no one didn't like anything bout the food!

Romantic Atmosphere, Great Courtyard, Consistantly Good Food. We have started to become regulars at Sketchers, we really enjoy going there on warm nights. As we are only a short walk away the courtyard is superb on a balmy night with a glass of wine, great food, and they even let us bring our two dogs with us if we sit outside...which we love! On cooler nights we have enjoyed sitting inside. The Pork Belly is very delicious, the steak is always properly cooked and the gentleman who I think is the owner is always so friendly. Basically a really good local option if we don't want to drive.

Great food, friendly staff. My wife and I booked a last minute dinner here for Saturday night - we were surprised to be able to get a table.
My wife suffers from fructose intolerance (no garlic, no onion, among other things) and the team at Sketches were able to tailor a perfect meal for her. This is more than can be said for most restaurants, regardless of price.
The service was a touch on the slow side, but the food more than made up for it - I had fabulous pork belly and my wife had some very impressive salmon with cucumber and mint salsa.
Great cake as well for dessert - we'll definitely be back!
Lived in the area 7 years before I found this place 6 months ago. Now I'm here often. Meals are truly magnificent.
Lovely little cafe. Had the chicken schnitzel roll and it was delicious crispy chicken fresh ingredience just a little bit more mayo would have been good. The chicken burger also looks and taste great. It came with good fries as well. Coffee was a bit disappointing, but overall I will definitely come back to this cafe!

You won't find a place that serves a better omelette then Sketches Cafe Bar Restaurant. It's fluffy light and delicious. You'll often find us there on a Sunday morning enjoying breakfast.
We've also been there for supper and what a meal I tell you!!
They cater exceptionally well for those that have food intolerances. I myself have a fructose intolerance and the chef made me one delicious meal for dinner.
