Review The Burwood Hotel - Burwood

Lisa
Interesting meals on offer at, ranging from your staple burgers and steaks to an Asian inspired menu with ramen. The “popcorn chicken” bowl was really delicious and very worth the price. So much chicken! Would recommend it if you like karaage chicken or fried chicken in general. The lamb chops were very tender and well-cooked too. Seating could be better (and cleaner). Seeing as it is The Burwood Hotel, it is as expected for the dining.

i love what they did with the place.. amazing! little china in burwood. fantastic street style food n numerous eateries to choose from. but there is no parking and can get very crowded.

I always eat here cuz the location is easy right across the train station and they have good food and pokies upstairs with free drinks and snacks. They got rid of the salmon don't know why but it's a pity cuz I used to order salmon all the time. Free water and toilets for the general public to use. Would recommend it.

It was very hot and humid day, we couldn't walk around much more so wanted to find some place nice and cool. Decided to hop into burwood hotel for light snack and some refreshments. Wasn't too busy, we had a rice bowl which was pretty average but really enjoyed their ramen fries couldn't stop eating it. Walked around abit and realised Burwood Hotel had such a nice outdoor seating areas. Will be back to try their alcoholic bubble tea.

It’s my all time favourite place to grab a drink. Food is decent too. But was bit disappointed when they charged $1 for takeaway. I will better have in the house next time.

Amazing food and drinks here. Had lots of fun. Perfect venue to chill out and relax with your friends.

Good vibes and good drinks but god damn please never order their ramen, i shouldn't be able to leave my chopsticks or spoon standing. They were under cooked, solid and tasted like straight dough, the broth straight up tastes like dish water mixed with 2 minute maggie noodles. Aside from that their drinks arent too bad, ill be back... not for the ramen though 🤣

Nice bar but very crowded and noisy. They have opened more areas outside and upstairs. Many drinks and food options available. Good to watching games and casual hangouts.

Burwood Hotel is a fun spot to stop in and listen to some live music while you have a snack and and drink. I tried their hot chicken flavour fries. The dish was very aesthetically pleasing and looked great for photos, however the fries were not as spicy as I would have liked and they were a bit over cooked.

As for cocktails, my favourite was the Yakult flavoured one (on the left in the included photo). I thought the drinks here overall were very creative however the service was a bit slow on the night I went and it took a while for me to get my cocktails.

Favourite local by far!!! Always great food, service and staff! Prices are also very good. Tried everything on the menu and every dish was great! The drinks are amazing as well! Very highly recommended!

The Burwood Hotel is great for a great meal, drinks and chats. They have a few fan favourites which I would highly recommend. Their buffalo cauliflower is SO good and i've come back to the Burwood Hotel simply just to eat this. Their nuclear fire noodle fries are amazing and so addictive. There are two different spicy levels so it suits everyone. They have quite good cocktails and selection of beers/wines. Their burgers are cheap, tasty and filling.

Great modern fitout with an emphasis on the East which suits the demographic, yet they still have a solid menu blending both East and West. Plenty of beers on tap and unique cocktails, although I did find the several tea style ones we had pretty average. Good stop on a hot day to cool down and relax.

Burwood Hotel was popping up on our Instagram daily so we had to check it out. I had ordered the steak with fries, salad and she had ordered the pork dumplings and we had to try iconic alcoholic bubble tea as well. The food came out fast and was good, the only issue I had was with how dry the steak was but other than that everything else was great. We even happen to seating during a UFC main event so that was great vibe. Overall though the food is good, I would recommend checking it out.

I finally got the chance to try the famous alcoholic bubble tea here. Since i'm not a big fan of popping lychee pearls, I opted for the espresso milk tea with pearls which contained vodka. Personally I prefer non-milky alcoholic cocktails but this one wasn't too bad. I also ordered the strawberry jam cocktail and that was delicious! The vibe is great here, very chill with live music.

There is actually some pretty good Asian food at this restaurant. My favourites were the nuclear fire noodle fries, which was actually quite addictive and not as spicy as the actual instant noodles, the bacon Mac and cheese nuggets and the chicken wings which were totally worth it at its price. We had the smoky BBQ sauce and it was pretty good.

On Monday’s, they also offer $1 pork soup dumplings or Xiao Long Bao which were not bad as well. The espresso boba milk tea was very strong and the pearls were quite hard so didn’t really like the combination. Do stay for dessert because the boba milk tea brûlée cheesecake was quite nice. Happy to come eat here again and perhaps next time I may be brave enough to try the extreme nuclear fire noodle fries.

We went for the spicy noodles chips and it was delicious. We also had the yakult boba soju. I felt that the soju was overpowering the yakult.

A local bar combined with a restaurant! Somewhere you go in, sit and chill. Watch sports and races with mates! What I love about Burwood hotel is their new dish that just came out “THE CREME BRULEE with boba pearls”! The texture is nice and rich. Sweetness was just right! Not only that, if you’re a boba fan, they also have boba cocktails!!!! How cool is that??!? 💖💖💖

Burwood is such a great suburb for tasty food. Matt and I recently have date night at Burwood Hotel. I've seen a lot of posts on instagram about a Boba creme brulee cheesecake dessert and also alcoholic boba bubble tea drinks so I was quite curious to be honest. I also vowed to share my experience with a dear friend of mine who has a fascination with bubble tea drinks.

A great place for a casual drink and meal with friends. This place is very busy on a Friday night and it was hard to find a seat for two. We wanted to try the new nuclear fries advertised outside of the hotel. Very innovative and delicious! We were also pleasantly surprised with the fish and chips. However, the soy fried chicken was okay

Visited The Burwood Hotel to try out their alcoholic bubble teas! We ordered the Aloe Vera one which was mixed with tequila. For only $15 (standard price of a cocktail in pubs nowadays), I felt like it was worth it! The tequila flavour definitely came through which you want in an alcoholic drink. Would definitely come back to drink here next time I’m in burwood. The hotel is also currently doing $1 xiao long baos on Monday nights so be quick and take advantage of this offer in winter! Would love to try this soon!

Months ago the steaks here were great, but our last visit we both ordered the steaks and became very ill shortly after :( we weren't sure if it was the steak or the sauce but hopefully thing will change and we can return to this once great restaurant.

Terrible. Went there with two friends, ordered a steak, fish and chips and tofu burger with chips. The steak was burnt, the fish was mushy and tasted like something that had been kept in the back of the freezer for 2 years, the tofu burger was inedible and the chips were almost completely white and limp, very undercooked and tasted like grocery home brand frozen fries cooked incorrectly and in old oil.
Also ordered 3 boba yakhult cocktails which took 30 minutes to arrive and were sent to the wrong table. No one came to rectify this (waiters seemed inexperienced and lost) and we had to approach the table and ask if they ordered them where they said no and gave them to us. When we received them that were leaking. The cocktails did taste quite good but were marred by the poor experience and exorbitant price.
If there are no serious changes, will never eat here again.

The setting is great and spacious feeling. Ordered chicken wings with buffalo sauce. The wings were crispy but totally bland. They just basically fried them then put the sauce on top. Give me for free I would reject 100%.

Nice place to hang out with friends as well as. The steak was perfectly cooked, sauce was delicious and portion was ok. I went on Sunday. They arranged request based live song was.

Been here twice, a Friday and a Saturday night. Both times food and drinks were on point, a great place to head to for Xmas party or a catch up, new food and interior looks great!

No. Just no. Sydney’s burger scene is pretty lit and this place falls behind. I ordered a burger with no onions and I got a lukewarm burger with onions and cold fries on the side. Maccas does better fries. The meat was your average run of the mill cafe patty. Not juicy at all.

We also tried the miso eggplant spring rolls. I would recommend avoiding this if you go. The filling was a bit of a mess. Couldn’t taste the miso or the eggplant so I’m not sure what I ate...

Look the vibe of the place isn’t bad. Nice staff too. This place wouldn’t be bad to knock back a few schooners with some mates on a Friday night. But the food was pretty terrible in my opinion.

There are better places to eat in Burwood...and if you want burgers go to Mr Gee’s food truck which is usually close by.

Went to burwood hotel after a good 2 hours of tennis. The sangria looked very tempting and I'm glad we ordered it. It was one of the best sangria I've had. Also ordered the mac and cheese nuggets, which were very innovative and quite tasty. Fish and chips is standard but both were hot and crisp. Overall the ambience was great. There was some live music too which was again good. Definitely a place to visit!
The Weekend Foodie
We visited this joint on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

1kg of muscles with Korean chilli sauce was divine. However the meat of the muscles itself were quite small. Nonetheless when you can get this for $10 when they have specials, it's pretty sweet.

The t bone burger was not bad. It's a typical burger that is filling but I honestly couldn't specify and highlight anything special about this burger. The burger comes with a side of crunchy chips.

Jalapeño poppers were huge. I personally did not like them but my partner loved them. The poppers weren't really spicy. The cheesy middle tasted like soft cheesy milk. I would've like some stringy cheese instead.

Food arrived fairly quickly. There were quite a few people watching a wrestling game. Not a bad place to hang out.

*kindly invited

+3 standard points for food
+1 sweet shoestrings!
-1 hotdog felt kinda bare-bones...
+1 except the deep fried sausage was super crisp!
+0 a satisfying staple steak
4 = would come back.

Overall: simple, but good. Solid non-asian option in Burwood.
Noise level: Loud. Expect to raise your voice.

Highlights:
Pretty sweet shoestrings! I liked that they kept the skin on, and most were super crispy! I have a soft spot for some soggy chips tho so the couple of floppy ones were satisfying (am I the only one tho thinks this?!? D:) As with the chips, the deep fried dog was amazingly satisfying to crunch into, and the sauces mean you just keep munching!

The steak was your standard fare. (I.e. delish! Amen to the great steaks of Australia. I was so satisfied) Salad was well seasoned but steak and chips a little under-seasoned. The mushroom sauce really needs some work.

Lowlights:
It was good as is, but I’d like to see something else in the dog (albeit deep fried, it was just sausage, sauce and bun). Maybe I’ll have to go back for another.

Total $36.00
It’s not cheap, but I also think it’s not much more expensive than what you’d expect to pay in Burwood / or for pubs in general? (Correct me if I’m wrong)

Inside the heart of Burwood's Chinatown this pub serves up burgers and fried chicken ... If you want something different from the Asian food all over Burwood this place is a must.

Great spot for Aussie pub food with an Asian twist! their burgers are excellent, however I am a little bit disappointed with their recent change from thick-cut chips to thin-cut ones.....oh well I know this is just my personal preference...regardless, still appreciate their food and drinks menu here, and the ambience is great for watching footy/World Cup. Happy to see their business picking up with their poster campaign seems to be successfully attracting a lot more customers!
OneHungryHuman
Great new and exciting menu. Burgers, steaks and a whole section of meats where you can order by the full or half kilo. Spicy wings were top notch and the ribs were meaty and tender. Great place for a cold beer and great food

Even for a pub this place has horrendous service. After asking for a simple side salad with my meal, I was told that it was in 'policy' that this request could not be met. After eating a very average meal, I asked why this particularly odd request was so hard to fulfill. The waitress then consulted what looked to be the floor manager who then proceeded to turn around, smirk at us and completely ignore the question. I will not return to this pub ever again and will recommend anyone from returning in future.

*3.5 stars

Burwood hotel is a local hangout for my friends and I. Came on a cold night, near midnight and service was still friendly and quick.

Been wanting to try their foods for a while since they renovated. My friend and I ordered the 1kg of drumsticks in Korean chilli sauce for $12. Must say its quite good value for around 8 giant pieces of drumsticks.

The sauce was sticky and with the right amount of chilli. The chicken was also juicy and not overcooked! The only downside was that it seemed like the chicken itself wasn't well seasoned. Can understand the lack of seasoning if the sauce is well seasoned. But i think it would have been even better if it was seasoned with at least some salt and pepper.

Otherwise, the vibe and atmosphere is always on point. I'm looking forward to trying more of their dishes!
@KeraBearEats
Visit by invite.

We came here on a Saturday evening at 5pm.

The incentive to come here were the 1kg portions of wings, ribs and drums for only $12 (ribs were only 1/2 kilo for the same price) - a bargain.

Despite the great price point, the flavours were okay. The chicken tasted like it could have been marinated longer or seasoned better, but really even if I was paying $12 for a kilo I would not have minded. The duck spring rolls didn't really taste like it had much duck in it, but they were still tasty. The best thing were the desserts, our pavlova was perfect, and the chocolate cake was a stunner.

Located in the heart of Burwood, it's hard to miss.

With the menu being so cheap, I'd recommend anything as long as you are aware of what your money is getting you. But definitely don't leave without trying those desserts.

In addition, the staff were very attentive and the manager was so lovely, almost too lovely for hospitality! :)

Thank you Burwood Hotel for the overall great evening.
Aimee.
Great drinks and great service for casual drinks. This place has a huge variety of snack/bar food and alcohol. We ordered a carafe of mojito for $26.

According to the 2016 census, 45% of the population of Burwood, an inner-west suburb 10 kilometres from Sydney CBD, are of Chinese heritage, making it a good area for authentic regional Chinese food. But pub grub has also been revitalised after an extensive renovation of the Burwood Hotel, a stone’s throw from the train station. The revamped eating house on ground floor features a menu where, truly, East meets West. Pub classics such as chicken schnitzels and burgers are joined by duck spring rolls and prawn dumplings.

Located on Burwood Road and close by to Burwood Station. It has had a revamp in menu so keen to try it out. Orders are placed at the counter and number given to you and they’ll deliver the food to your table. Drink orders are taken the bar. Service is cheerful.

The main reason for our visit was to try their new kg feeds. Baskets of chicken, ribs, squid, and prawns were on offer. We shared the Chicken Wings, Salt & Pepper Squid (With Nam Jim Dipping Sauce), Beer Battered Fries & Sweet Potato Fries. The wings were awesome. Nicely glazed with a sticky sweet sauce there was a combo of wings and drumsticks to keep everyone happy. Squid was pretty good too. The accompanying fries were nice and crispy too. Dipping sauces of tomato sauce and aioli were provided.

Finished off with a Pavlova. Presentation of this was nice but just wished it was more marshmallowy in the middle and had a bit more fruit on it.

Great place to hang out with friends and family and having the baskets to share!

Stumbled across this pace after shooting for mardi gras.
It was the only place open late at night and still serving food.
The service was really good and so was the food.
The wait time was rather quick and the prices were also quite good.
The only thing is there is a $10 minimum if you're paying by card so if you want to get a second drink refill you're better off ordering two drinks with your meal.
Other than that, it's a nice place to grab a bite as well as have a wander around the pokies if you're into that sort of thing.
Located on the main strip of Burwood so is easy to get to via public transport.

Went for a Sunday lunch in December. The hotel has been done up and looks great. We started with the prawn bar gau and the BBQ duck spring rolls after a nice craft beer each.

The duck spring rolls could have used a bit more duck, they were a bit light on, but the prawn bar gau was totally incredible and perfectly cooked. We followed with the roasted duck breast and I had the NY strip with pepper sauce, veg and chips. Steak was good, a bit overcooked for medium rare and the pepper sauce was quite reasonable. The chips were another to die for favourite. My partner had the roasted duck breast - perfectly cooked medium with amazing flavours, including the orange braised whitlof . This was the dish of the day. The only real downside is that there are a lot of hard surfaces, so the dining area got quite noisy, maybe some plants or something to soften the noise.

A great place right outside Burwood hotel. Nice place. Great Ambience. Ordered my favourite chicken burger and it was superb. Please go and dine in there.

*Thank you Sophia from FCBA for hosting and inviting us to this lovely event. Special thanks to Burwood Hotel for having us. With a killer location smack bang in the centre of the fairway of travellers, lies the Burwood Hotel. It has been standing since 1923 and has since become a common watering hole for locals.

The food was not so great but innovative and pleasant change from the previous doner kebab joint with clean and more sleek interior. The menu is something of a fusion between east and west.

Pretty happy with this as our new local. Somewhere to come for a drink that has great pub food as well as upmarket Aussie cuisine in an area that is filled with Asian yummies.

Menus are on the table then you order near the entrance.

Food arrived quick enough after we got a couple of drinks.

The hot chips are delicious with the right amount of crispy oiliness. The wagyu burger was chunky in portion though wasn't as juicy as I was expecting but was ok.

Spicy Korean drumsticks were large in portions and enough of a spice kick and taste.

The pork belly baos are yummy and we will be back for them. The Shanghai dumplings aren't the ones filled with soup but just meat and was tasty.

The duck was well presented and ok. Not as much flavour as the others.

If you're a white wine drinker, I had the Delatite which matched nicely.
Husband had the whole Ginger and Lemongrass Mohito carafe to himself and barely tasted the alcohol.

I was so excited to hear about the recently renovated Burwood hotel as I work in the area and sometimes feel limited with food options. The menu has a mix of east vs west cuisines. There was five of us that popped in for a quick work lunch on a Tuesday and were happy to find a $15 burger special. I ordered the Burwood Beef Burger with Wagyu beef, tasty cheese, tomato, lettuce, bacon and pickle sauce. The burger was great for a pub meal, the meat was cooked medium rare, was juicy and well seasoned. It was also served with chips that were crispy and nicely salted and some onion rings topped the burger. I've only tried one menu item but already think this is the best pub meal in Burwood. I'm looking forward to trying other menu items and hope they add some more lunch specials to the menu.
The Next Rush
REDISCOVER THE BURWOOD HOTEL:
Following the 6 month renovation and facelift of the bistro, gaming and bar entertainment areas, the new menu has been unveiled offering a smorgasbord of 'east meets west' choices to suit all palettes.

INTERIOR / AMBIENCE:
The environmentally friendly feature wall is a mosaic of old roof tiles offering visual texture and contrast within the seemingly unsuspecting charcoal tone. An art feature in itself, diners also have full view into the kitchen and can watch all the action as it takes place. The split level area leads down into the main bar area. Prominently displayed is a large brass bucket which once use to serve as a hotbed for metal castings adding a nice touch to the history and long established venue that has survived since the early 1920s. Live sports can be viewed on screen while the main staircase to the upper levels leads to the gaming area.

SERVICE:
A warmth in the service led by father and daughter team, Kylie and Peter ensures this new management team and venue reinterpretation to be a hit with the locals. Major urban residential developments and a growing diversity in the local taste has seen a nice evolution in their menu.

THE MENU
Modern Australian with streaks of Asian influence sees many of our classic pub favorites joined with the best of North Asian cuisine. From the Rib Eye, Rumps, Burgers to the bite size Baos and handmade dumplings, the versatility of the menu shapes itself to your visit. Family friendly, wide bistro spaces in the main dining area make it perfect for a quick easy meal out without fuss enjoying some premium quality cuts and exciting flavors.

Snacks / Share Plates:
Prawn Har Gau, Shanghai Pork Mince Dumplings are a staple in the local area and you can’t escape them here, but it is the SPICY CHICKEN BAO with pickled cabbage and samba aioli that that stands out. That is, until you have the PORK BELLY BAO! When having Korean, I’m quite predictable and so it’s quite refreshing figuratively and literally to sample the succulent meat with the crunch from the Cucumber Kim Chi and Chilli Peanuts! Absolute must.

Meaty Mains:
The signature BURWOOD BEEF BURGER is a nice celebration of the old classic beef, bacon, tasty cheese and trimmings that will never fail. The CHICKEN BURGER can be done grilled or fried - we had the latter. Beautiful contrast here with the guacamole VS the slaw and then the battle of chipotle VS housemade sweet chili aioli. Subtle tweaks that work! However, the STEAK SANDWICH has to be the winner hands down. Served on Turkish, the medium cooked eye fillet is allowed to dominate and showcase its rich flavors with accents of tasty cheese, tomato relish and onion jam for effect.

When blending modern Australian and Asian in a menu such as this, it’s easy to lose authenticity when estimating thresholds to accommodate a wide palette spectrum palette, but it was definitely not found in the KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN. I love a bit of fire, so if you don’t, make sure to request this to taste. Beautifully sweet battered drumsticks are bathed in a fiery rich Korean sauce of chili, lime and peanuts. Definitely a mother standout.

Desserts are kept to theme with their chocolate fondant served with black sesame ice cream and creme brûlée given some kick with ginger ice cream and matching glazed garnish. Would love to tell you how they are but did not have the room for it, from what I could tell - there’s a lot of promise in these.

Having sampled the Angus beef rip eye and rump, it's clear to see that the team of Chefs know how to work their meat with both dishes also an excellent choice for a hearty meal.

The location of this entertainment hub makes it a perfect choice for locals and working commuters. An accommodating menu encapsulated with friendly staff and areas for seated dining, casual drinks and sports to suit all occasions.

Delicious and healthy super bowl salad with chicken is my favourite dish on the menu. I could eat the everyday for lunch. Burgers looked amazing and I will try them during my next visit
Issac_eatsalot
The newly renovated Burwood hotel has kept the majority of their menu the same but tweaked it and added added a few extra.mains and light salads. I got the burger and a dessert. The burger was solid for a pub burger. Good crisp bacon and melted cheese. Good value too. Brulee was a little undercooked, but the coconut gelato was amazing!

Walked into this place randomly for lunch. Didn't even realise we'd walked into the Burwood Hotel! The renos here are great! Love the interior and vibe in the main bar and restaurant. New chef cooked us a couple steaks to perfection. $15 for a delicious steak is great but $9 for a cider is abit steep. Good feel here now though.
