Review The Rusty Rabbit - Burwood - Burwood

What an amazing experience. The lads at this joint are super cool and friendly and the atmosphere was almost like being in Newtow.. chilled out. We went in for a breakfast menu and based on review posted by other they didn’t disappoint here are some pics , would highly recommend this place .

Service was great. Coffee was good. Southern chicken burger was ok. Two stars for the beef burger. It was bland and the beef patty was as thin as a cheese burger from McDonald’s. Not worth $17.50.

The sweet potato fritter here is good. I asked for cold brew with ice. the amount of coffee was a little small.. but I liked the food because it was delicious. It is a good menu for people who eat a lot of breakfast like me. I think it would be a better menu if I removed a little more oil from the fritter. It doesn't mean that the taste is greasy.

Coffee was ok. Food was a hit and miss. The sweet potato fritters was dry and had nothing to it. The sticky date pancakes was really tasty tho. Not too sweet and generous serving.

We had the mee goreng and dried laksa. Both tasty and great for a dirty carb filled meal! There won't be too much meat but the taste was definitely there! Had enough for take away and wouldn't mind coming back to try some of the other dishes they have to offer!

Great coffee, friendly service and delicious food! We tried the southern chicken burger, spicy chicken burger (both with bacon) and bacon eggs benedict. Everything was excellent!

nice vibe, good space for breakfast. lost 2 stars because: 1. wait time for food too long, which is fair because busy - however, my partner received his meal first and i received mine maybe 5 mins later. 2. nice food presentation, but the food was overall too salty.

I love this Chai latte so good 😊 and also the burger is good but I don’t remember what the burger is 🤣

The best cafe restaurant in Burwood, beautiful coffee fantastic food and the best service from the staff very friendly atmosphere and fantastic people, I love it !!and I highly recommend

Everything about this place is amazing! The food and coffee were great but what made it even better was the customer service. I've never been to a place that had so many friendly staff. Each and every person had a smile on their face and were so helpful and attentive. Definitely be back again!

Omg the energy at this place is unbelievable. The owner who kind of looks like young Jesus brings his own sense of quirkiness and enthusiasm to an already vibing cafe. Try the pancakes. But before they’re huge. More cake than pancake. You will need extra maple...
Gladys Uy
Great food! Great service! Super nice and friendly staff. I'll chill out there every day if I could will recommend to anyone xoxo
Amy Lui
Pancake is really good and too big for 2 girls, breakfast wrap is lovely, I love it. Green tea latte is a bit too milky, I would like to have more green tea favour. Definitely will go for brunch next time

Great food, great atmosphere. Would be good to have more fruit/yoghurt options for breakfast & also a big breakfast for big eaters
Jocelyn Farah-Merhi
A takeaway coffee never tasted so good! The chicken, lentil and potato salad, a must to try. Great Service.

Delicious food, great atmosphere and cute staff to boot!!

most unique cafe in the Inner West - from the food, drinks, staff and atmosphere, the RUSTY RABBIT is the place to be to enjoy a morning breaky or afternoon lunch - WELL DONE!
Carmel McLean
What I love most about Rusty Rabbit Cafe is that the coffee is always consistent beautifull in taste , strength and it's nice and hot and the staff are always smiling and friendly, well done Rusty Rabbit Staff

Great service, lovely atmosphere and delicious food, highly recommend!

Got the falafel stack 🧆 which had good flavours but was overpriced for the quantity served!!
The milkshakes were a disappointment- ordered the soy vanilla milkshake which was extremely sweet and not in a good way!
They do however have a refreshing and fresh range of ice crushes and smoothies - perfect for summers!
Overall: Very good service, average food.
Foodie Life
Tried the breakfast wrap and mocha. It was perfect to start the morning with and delicious. Will recommend and come back to try more dishes.
Ellie Zilinsky
Very nice breakfast selection and good service!

Rusty Rabbit did not disappoint after a terrible dining experience earlier on and the crowd lining up for a table definitely brings a positive vibe to the cafeteria.
The pancakes are a popular choice which were not overly sweet and topped with fresh strawberries and blueberry sauce. 👍
Nacho
Overpriced. Ordered a $10 breakfast wrap. Was the diameter of a 20c coin. More like a breakfast snack.

TLDR:
• Mouldy bread
• Overpriced food compared to quality

Overall:
• Staff are not trained in food quality
- Reason they gave to deny that the bread was mouldy was that all their bread had the green specks (last time i checked, nothing green goes into white bread)
• Overpriced for portion size

Burger: $17.5
• Bread was MOULDY
• Asked for it to be replaced and they said that all their bread was like that

Benedict: $14.5 + $4 for bacon
• Hollandaise sauce tasted of margarine as opposed to butter
• Poached egg’s yolk was not runny
• Bacon was okay

Drinks: $7
• Coffee quality was equivalent to that of a nespresso capsule coffee
- 1 shot of coffee in a relatively large glass
• Freshly squeezed orange juice was sour
- Strong taste of orange pith
• Watermelonade was very diluted

The food here tastes as good as it looks! The whole cafe is really nice and it’s aesthetics are very unique. The merchandise is really cool, although a bit on the expensive side. Overall this cafe was wonderful and I would definitely recommend the rabbits choice drink.

Burwood is known as another busy Chinatown in NSW and is home to a lot of my favourite Chinese restaurants. I’ve been eyeing The Rusty Rabbit for brunch for awhile now due to the reviews and popularity, but never decided to try until recently. Staff were very polite and welcoming, the food was fresh and hot when arrived and cooked perfectly. My table got 3 dishes to share and loved them all. Brunch food is getting pricier nowadays, so I used the eatclub app which gave me a discount.
GastronomicGoddess
Great service and lovely waitress. They were prompt, clean and tasty. The only issue is seasonings! The eggs were poached perfectly for all three dishes. The presentation is crazy good. The drinks were all perfect. However, they just need to add more salt to the dishes, and that’s just it to make it perfect. I’m actually giving a 4.5/5 but mobile doesn’t support that.
EMZ EATS
The first time I went I ordered a salmon bowl dish with edamame, quinoa, lettuce etc. Though super healthy it was extremely bland - lacked any seasoning, salt, pepper - there was only a lemon. My partner ordered the pasta dish which was also quite mediocre.

Second time I visited with a group of friends and I ordered the baked eggs. I was quite disappointed in this dish because 90% of it was chick peas, the sauce was just ok and the chorizo was diced into minute pieces I think I only had 5 tiny cubes altogether. Overall, the Rusty Rabbit has a good atmosphere and staff are friendly, buts it’s not worth your money - it’s just average.
Sydneyhomecook
We ordered eggplant falafel and soy hot chocolate, as per the food, it was definitely great. While the ambience is too nice for the instagram page.
The staff was nice and courteous. The aroma of the place was superbb!
Susan
Service was good, but not very attentive. Food overall was okay.
The corn fritter itself was bland and a little sour... Not sure why, but the other elements of the dish gave it more flavor.
The brekkie wrap was super small and average in taste.
As a whole, the jerk chicken burger was nice, but the chicken was a little dry and the fries were not fully cooked...
Coffee and drinks were nice.
Katerina
Excellent customer service, the staff are very friendly and food came all at the same time. The food was delicious and was worth the instagram worthy food.
Betterresult
The ginger salmon dish is what you'd expect, smoked salmon and Japanese ginger slices mixed with the usual ingredients in café menus - fetta and avo on sourdough (so in other words...nothing too exciting, but nice otherwise)
Iced mocha strong flavoured.
Service is good here, very attentive. Food out within 10-15 mins.
Foodblogs
Such a great cafe with young and trendy ambience.
The menu is creatively shown in the form of comic books. Love it.
The dishes I tried were the lamb bowl, falafel stack and southern chicken burger.
The plating was beautiful and the food didn’t disappoint to say the least.
My personal favourite was the southern chicken burger. The chicken was crispy and the sauce was the bomb. Fries were crispy too.
The smoothies were fresh and healthy without being too sweet.
You can also purchase The Rusty Rabbit theme merchandise here.

The Rusty Rabbit is a cute little cafe at Emerald Square in Burwood. Pictured: smashed pumpkin with chorizo and egg, and soy hot chocolate. The food was good, but soy hot chocolate wasn’t great.
IEats
This was a pretty great brunch spot in Burwood. The decor was really cool and the menu was inside comic books. In terms of food, the smashed pumpkin (with chorizo) was a nice idea and tasted okay but not something I’d order again. The pancakes though were really good. The size of the dish was quite large so do share it but definitely worth ordering! I also had their chai latte with almond milk which was really nicely brewed.

Amazing experience
Nice concept don't expect this place is available in Burwood.
Yummy Lamb Bowl, lovely coffee I ordered Iced Mocha but cappucino also amazing
Panda Lover
Usually we go to Burwood for Chinese food but this place surprised me as it has nice outdoor seatings- not very common in Burwood. The food was very instagram friendly, taste was not bad. My personal fav was the eggplant falafel, while the other two dishes was just ok.

I’m a fan of the effort this cafe has taken with its branding. The cute merchandise and vibe makes me want to stay here and eat more. The service is amazing and the staff is really sweet. The food was presented really well and was yum! It’s a perfect Sunday brunch destination with your partner.
Yeahhhh1109
Just order a pancake for dessert.
Honestly, pancake is not soft enough, and the passion fruit sauce is a bit sour, size is really big. Can’t finished by me and my bf.
Not recommended

Second time here and the breakfast wrap does not disappoint. Fulfilling at the right price and hits all the right notes.

However, the Karaage Chicken burger was average. Sauce was heavenly, however the chicken was dry and stringy.

Solid local brunch spot without having to wonder too far on a Sunday morning.
Vicky
The food is pricey and in small quantity. You can’t really find a harmony in the combination of all flavours. For an $18 lamb on toast, I expect more than just one single toast with some stir fried minced lamb. Two stars for the idea of this cafe. I am quite disappointed.
Alan.ly94
Had the pulled porked burger with a side of chips and chipotle mayo sauce. Burger was j00c3y (in between moist and leaky), the pork was well complimented by the crunch from the fried onion rings and slaw. Chips were the standout —> crispy and crunchy, fluffy inside

My son Victor Vo got the corn fritters, perfect nutrition for a growing boy! A bit of salmon for a big brain and a poached egg for some big gains. The fritter was gone too soon like harambe, 3 bites and it was over :(
FoodPanda
Great branding, polite service and even merchandise. However, the Rabbit should focus on the food itself as the quality was average. I ordered a chicken and rice bowl and was very underwhelmed when a packet rice cup was served on my plate.
Foodadventureswithwhit
Great service. Great food. Portions were substantial. Bang for buck! Would definitely come back!! The ginger salmon was one of the best dishes!
Mango And Goat
Friendly and attentive staff. Atmosphere average (can be quite loud at peak and lots of people walking around all the time), this is a themed cafe with style. Come if you’re marvel or DC fans, lots of pop vinyl dolls around, rusty rabbit merchandise.
Food average, price average for brunch. $42 for two people. 2 meals + 1 drink. Kids friendly place with menu as colouring books.

Ordered the benedict today, it’s your classic eggs benedict, simple meal with spinach, sour dough, pouched eggs, hollandaise with an add on of bacon.
Also ordered the karaage chicken burger today, Japanese styled chicken served with side of chips. Would be better if it had onions inside. Overall experience was good.
TD
The sauces in the fried chicken burger really complemented the chicken. The meal was quite large in size and was very filling. The highlight of the meal was the chips with aioli sauce; salty, crunchy, soft on the inside.

However, the chicken itself was quite dry and stringy. For the price paid ($16-17), it was not worth it; the burgers weren't outstanding.
May Wang
Got baked eggs and cheese burger. Baked eggs is a bit too salty with feta cheese on it... but tastes good with sourdough. Definitely need one more piece of bread to go with it. Coffee’s just fine, flavorless

Ginger & Salmon : 😁 Great
Service : 😁 Great

Although the menu isn’t terribly big, the food is sooo good! The Ginger & Salmon was very different and creative and I enjoyed every single bite! Who cares about the food at this place and take a look and feel the amazing atmosphere they have here. It’s like being a kid again with the menu as colouring pages and little figurines everywhere. So great and highly recommended! Will definitely be back.

I suggested this venue to my friends when we caught up for lunch as Burwood was a central suburb for all of us and my friends were all happy with the venue. One of them did get lost as it's located inside a newly developed complex but the cafe is spacious with indoor and outside seating.

Staff were super friendly and it was a good thing I made a booking as the place was busy! While I was waiting for my friends I tried their watermelonade which was very refreshing without being too sweet. By the time all my friends arrived I was starving and I enjoyed my corn fritters which came with mashed avo, salad leaf, smoked salmon and fried capers. My friends ordered their eggs Benedict with smoked salmon, cheeseburger which had great chips on the side and the chicken & lentil salad which was so big that my friend managed only half and asked for the rest to be packed for takeaway.

Cafe is kid friendly with high chairs and colouring pencil for them to colour in the menu!

Went on a lunch date and had a super duper experience

The lamb bowl tasted simply delicious and the chicken burger was one of the best we had

LAMB BOWL : Had a beautiful blend of quinoa with lamb pieces and the right amalgamation of all the spices and sides.

BURGER : Absolutely crispy and french fries are a rage

Adding to all this the staff Is Super polite

Highly recommended

Probably the best cheeseburger I've had in my life. So delicious! Dessert options weren't great. Great ambiance. Great coffee. My friends also loved their meals: Smashed avo and ricotta; ginger and salmon; fried chicken burger.
Annie Nguyen
Had very high expectations of this cafe because of the reviews. Perhaps I didn't choose the right dish (I had pancake envy after ordering the Smashed Pumpkin) but it wasn't the best brunch I've had.

Smashed Pumpkin Toast (3/5): The soy and quinoa toast slice was nice and crispy put the smashed pumpkin needed some seasoning, it lacked flavour and without any feta it was quite bland. The balsamic glaze added a sweetness to the dish and the bursting cherry tomatoes are always a good addition to a smashed toast combo but there was nothing that really stood out to me about this dish.

Beef Burger (3.5/5): The brioche bun was lovely but it was your standard beef burger inside - something you could easily replicate at home. It's not the same feeling you get when you bite into a Burger Project Burger and get a hit of that amazing beef patty that's for sure. The chips on the other hand were so crispy, beer battered fries - how do you go wrong!

Would be interested in trying other menu items but I'm in no rush to return here

Really nice atmosphere with friendly and prompt service. The menu is limited in comparison to other cafés but the food is creative and tasty. It’s a unique experience worth traveling for!

Located in a square under an apartment block, I was so pleasantly surprised by this discovery. The cafe is open with seating inside & out. Its decorated like comic books with lots of toys & even the menu is like a comic book with menu items intertwined with pages of comics! Staff are all so friendly and welcoming and are attentive from the minute you walk in till you leave. The menu sounds classic but modern & surely enough the dishes, when arriving at the table, looks absolutely stunning & beautifully presented. Taste wise it really hits the spot too. Lamb eggs sounds like a heavy dish but is surprisingly refreshing but so tasty. Middle Eastern style lamb mince is served on top of shredded, cooling cucumber & labne, drizzled with balsamic, dusted with dukkah & scattered with pomegranate seeds, perfectly poached eggs, all served on sourdough. The pumpkin smash is so sweet, topped with avocado, juicy cherry tomatoes & a salty hit from the fetta. Its again satisfying at every bite yet clean & not heavy. Scrambled eggs is a benchmark test and here its done perfectly. Coffee is a special Toby's Estate blend & it has oomph & character, just like this cafe. Ain't no Rusty Rabbit, but a very fast, efficient, well-fed, cheeky rabbit!

Ordered the lamb eggs, lamb rice bowl and ricotta pancakes. All of which were brilliant topped with amazing service. The team at Rusty Rabbit were very friendly. I also recommend the acai berry smoothie, it was very refreshing on a very hot 36 degree day.

Great coffee here with extra friendly staff. Good ambience with alfresco dining in the open area of the complex it resides in.

Ample seating and service is always swift and cheery.
Vanessa
Originally it was hard to find because we had to walk off the main road but it was nice and quiet so it was worth the walk.
I ordered just the pancakes and they were delicious! They were big and fluffy with lots of syrup so it wasn't dry when I reached the bottom pancake. The cheese helped create a creamy element and the berry compote was slighty sour to compensate for the sweetness of the maple syrup.
I wasn't able to finish it and recommend sharing with someone because the pancakes are very big and filling. 😁
Donna
First time visit to this cafe did not disappoint. We had the 'lamb bowl' and ricotta pancakes with passionfruit, mixed berries and berry coulis. The lamb kefta was delicious, juicy, and great value for money. The instagram picture worthy pancake was kinda disappointing- it is thick and meant to be fluffy, but was actually quite dense and crumpet like in its consistency. There is simply not enough sauce and the flavour is not balanced enough, and was actually quite sour. On the plus side, the serving was quite generous!
Customer service is A+ and the coffee(Toby's Estate) is divine.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
This cafe can be hard to find but once you’re here, you’ll really enjoy it! Located just behind Burwood Plaza and in Emerald Square, this place was quite busy when we arrived for a late lunch. The decor and menus are whimsical!

Service was excellent and felt immediately welcomed by the staff. Lots of outdoor tables so perfect for alfresco dining.

We had a couple of the burgers, one being the Lamb Kafta Burger, the other was the Southern Fried Chicken Burger. Both were served with really crunchy chips. The burgers had great flavour. The chicken one had a great crispy coating. The lamb one was a delicious kafta patty. The fresh juice and ice crushes were quite nice and refreshing.

Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area.

🐇 🐇 The Rusty Rabbit is a bit out of the way, i think if they had a better location then they'd be very popular! They have good coffee, and the food is very nice!I had the 'Green Eggs and Ham' dish and the pancakes which were yummy! Food here is good and there's some delicious breakfast choices i would come for. I do love the kid-friendly vibe, very smart choice as a lot of residents in the area will be drawn to it. In terms of the cafe as a whole, the location really puts me off because i know the picnic is right next to the Westfield and the food there is also delicious, so if i had to choose one over the other it'd be the picnic based on the location.

Went back here again and this time it was for The Rusty Rabbit’s 1 Year Anniversary!

• I ordered the $10 (which are normally $19) pancakes which were on special (what a bargain)
• Despite the amount of people, the wait wasn’t too long - it was about 20 minutes
• The pancakes were super delicious and filling but after several bites it makes your mouth go dry and it gets tiring to chew so much 😂
• The staff were extremely friendly! They’re awesome!
• Natural lighting and cute decor - it’s instaworthy too ☺️
[invite] Bianca: And we’re back for some mid morning brunching in the hood and with the dynamic duo, Bob-Squad back Jugernauts together. We set our sights on The Rusty Rabbit in Burwood. Having grown up in the area I spent the formative part of my teenage years actively avoiding the suburb, as I was guaranteed to run into everybody I went to high school with. And who has time for small talk?

Fantastic! Loved thee service and friendly staff. The food was amazing, though I didn't finish it because it was quite a large serving. I took the rest to-go and my cousins devoured the remaining pancake. Needless to say, I will be back before my vacation ends and with more hungry mouths.

Came here on a groupon. Southern fried chicken burger, chips (normally $16) and a passionfruit and mango ice crush ($7). Everything tasted great! Generous amount of chicken, not the tenderest but had nice flavour. Chips were bomb! Crispy and fluffly. The waiter offered different sauces to dip in, which was very hospitable. Lively ambience with good music. Would recommend.

It was so good, i came back and had another round of burgers. This time had the "mighty melon" juice ($7), tasted so fresh.
Michelle
Absolutely am in love with this cafe, from the incredible food to the family friendly atmosphere.

After coming across their beautiful pancakes with ricotta and other condiments on instagram, I had to try it. And I was extremely impressed, not only were they insta worthy but also very delicious and filling! They were bigger than I expected to which I recommend you share between two or more if you're also having other meals. My cousin and I shared both the pancakes and chicken burger and we still had pancake leftover :(

Their southern fried chicken burger was amazing, with the chicken itself being surprisingly a tad spicy (which I'm down for). The chips were perfectly seasoned and add chilli mayo = perfection

However I was not a fan of their watermelonade which had no watermelon flavour whatsoever and was simply lemonade.

Definitely coming back again to further satisfy my tastebuds!!

Staff are absolutely amazing! Never been to a place where every single staff member is so incredibly friendly!! I commend them on such a lovely environment. The coffee is deliciously smooth. Food delicious!! Everything is cooked perfectly.

Nice little cafe located in Emerald Square. Came here today with my mom and we ordered the eggs benedict with bacon and the breakfast wrap. The service here is really good and friendly but the food took a while to come out, as there was a couple next to us who came later than us but got their food first =__=, maybe because it was busy. The bacon on my eggs benedict was kinda overcooked for me but overall the dish was really good. I noticed that its very kid friendly too so its great for families. Would come again~
Judy Tu
A really nice little cafe that's tucked away. It really stands out as it looks very nice and modern. The staff there were so nice and friendly too!
The food was delicious. I tried the Lamb Egg - The lamb was very full of flavour and the other elements made the dish taste very refreshing. I also had a bite of my friends Smashed Pumpkin dish and that was also amazing!
Another great thing about this place is that they offer split payments - which is great when you're going out with a group of friends! There's no need to evenly split the change. Highly recommend!
Robin
Very average. Atmosphere and the vibe didnt feel appropriate due to the concrete environment. The southern style chicken burger was overpriced and average. Bun for the burger was meh. Probably wont visit again.

Rabbit Ninja !!

A cute new cafe serving up delicious cafe style brekky and brunch in Burwood. Located inside the new building complex close to Burwood Plaza this place has ample seatings.

Great service and great food with comic theme this place is kids friendly and has out door seating.

Until next time ... Keep eating!!!

The Rusty Rabbit is in a interesting location,a new building next to Burwood Plaza,in a place where it is the only non Asian eatery and it looks like they are making a killing! It's busy is what I'm saying!

Came for brunch and was impressed. Everything tasted better than your average cafe
But there prices are a little more than expected.

I do like it's theme and it's comic book illustrations though

Like I said it's busy and if you come, you can see why for yourself
You'll just have to find it,it's a little tricky
Thefoodbotherer
I came for the ricotta hotcakes and they did not disappoint. Huge portion with a soft centre and crunchy cake like exterior with a generous amount of fruits. The barista did Toby's estate justice and I thoroughly enjoyed my two piccolos. The space is quite cold temperature wise but there is a basket of blankets you can help yourself to. The staff are warm and hospitable. A great addition to the Burwood cafe scene
Orange_tree
Rusty Rabbit is a local cafe located in a new Burwood development off the main drag. The chirpy and friendly staff made us feel welcomed immediately. I had the smoked salmon tartine, simple but well-presented. Slices of salmon and avocado on a sourdough, sprinkled with poppyseed and an unusual grated egg. The pickled onions were a nice touch as a tangy counterpoint to the fatty salmon. My friend said his corn fritters and chorizo dish were a tasty combination. Coffee was unremarkable. Though the view isn't great, Rusty Rabbit is a large space with plenty of covered seating, suitable for large groups and it's also pram friendly. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for a good cafe; certainly beats the dismal options in Westfield.

Good portion of salad... although it's pricy but I had it take away and ate it for dinner as well... great Sunday brunch place.. love the cozy outside sitting~
