Review Sahara By The Park - Burwood

A great dining experience. Amazing service by the friendly staff. Prices are great considering the portion sizes we were given. We ordered the falafel ($16.50) and the Sahara Platter For 2 ($64.50). Food arrived piping hot and fresh but the actual grilled portion of the Platter arrived a little late, though its mid-dinner service, so it's expected. Amazing friendly staff were happy to accommodate and reheat/toast the bread and topped-up some of the condiments. All were flavoursome, colourful and well presented. We left very well fed and are happy to return sometime in the near future. We did book for a table an hour before rocking up, quite lucky a table for 3 was available. Otherwise, do plan ahead with those bookings. Highly recommended.

We've been there two times. We attended a friend's get-together as well as a work lunch. We found the food and the service were excellent. A decent menu with a lot of variety and reasonable prices. The restaurant has a nice ambiance too.

First time visiting this restaurant and absolutely poor customer service - the wait time is horrible (approximately 45 minutes) just to get the main food out. The manager/owner said to eat the whole plate of entree (which is salad and bread - as pictured) while we wait for the main. If there is only the two of us - how and why would we fill up on the entree and then not be able to eat the main when it comes? The main also doesn’t come with salad so that poses the same question; why would we eat the whole entree? Completely illogical customer service along with no apologies whatsoever from this restaurant. Will not come here again.

Booked ahead for an inside table of 6 on a Saturday night. The food came quickly considering how busy is the restaurant was. 2 of our party had the plate for 2 with skewers, dips, bread and salads. They said it was excellent. The prawn Pide I had was large, but so tasty I ate it all. The manger and waiters were attentive and friendly and didn't try to rush us out even though there was a line of people waiting to get it. Good venue for a special occasion with friends.

Very yummy Turkish food and large portions ! Would definitely come back with more people so that we can try more dishes 😋

Sahara - the most tasty barbecue lamb in burwood! Triple plate must try!

First time I ate it today. Service Ok. Food....This. Is..the true Holy Halal Snack Pack...Metro One was my current favourite. This is another dimension. Guys, well done. It is creamy peferction, and the price is perfect.

Quick drop in for dinner with my wife today. Terrible meal. Almond rice was horrible, tasteless and mushy salad was so basic and very dry. This quality of meal added to being seated near the bathroom about summed it up. Ended up going to another restaurant was was a lot better.

Excellent food, great service & friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit or two. We had the mixed plate which was SO good & very filling.

Superb turkish food served by nicest and loving turkish family. Absolutely love this place and will highly recommend to anyone who is up for real turkish food.

Honestly..there's a reason I hardly go there. Overpriced, staff are not the best and when the online menu says one price and you arrive to end up paying extra - with nothing that's included on the online menu.. that's poor form. Veg Pide with NO salad (even though it states it comes with salad) takeaway.. $16! Honestly..

I had tried Sahara on multiple occasions but every time at DFO Homebush. Today for the first time I went to Burwood. I ordered for Lamb chargrilled roll and Vegetarian Pide. The pide was ok but I felt it was little overpriced as compared to other stuff on the menu. The lamb roll was not up to my expectations. It was flavor less and roll was just filled with Salad than the lamb. I had this lamb roll several times in Homebush and it is way better than I had today in Burwood. I guess the reason is excess crowd in Burwood. But this should not let you lower down the quality of food that is served to the customer. I am very fond of rolls of Sahara but I am not sure if I would again visit Burwood one.

Always the best food in Burwood. Always fresh beautiful food. Been eating here since the early 2000's. Yummm

Awesome quality food. A little rushed on service, very friendly manager. See you again....

One of my favourite places to eat. Absolutely love it. Never have to wait for long. Very polite guys in there. Sometimes the only reason I will visit Burwood.

The food was excellent and the customer service. ...exceptional. Thanks for a lovely night. Prices very reasonable too. Well done.

Food was amazing. Friendly staff and service was awesome. :)

This is our favourite. We love, love, love the mixed grill and our daughter loves the Iskender. The staff are great and we always feel welcome. This is our go to restaurant for a celebration or just because.

Whilst the food was fantastic, the service was slow. I had to get up and ask at the register for drinks, the food came out very slow and our drink orders had to be followed up as we were forgotten about.

Husband and I love coming here for their food. Everything is made so fresh and perfectly seasoned. The meats are well cooked and not dry and the guys working there have always been friendly to us. Definitely our local go-to in the area. A bit on the pricey side but worth it to us for what we are getting and how much we get as well.

Been here many times,

for takeaway had the snack packs and the kebabs, all tasting pretty good.

Dinning in, had the platters and also iskendar. Dips are flavorful and the meats are seasoned well. Floor staff are quick and have a good attitude. quality and taste are also consistent.

Come here if you want some good kebabs!
Jules
Service is a little slow and you'll pay a bit more than your average kebab shop, but it really reflects the quality of the food. The place is also decorated very beautifully. I had the mxied plate of assorted meat. Goes great with the salads and delicious aioli (I'd ask for extra aioli next time though). Also have a takeaway part of the shop on the other side where you can get amazing Adana rolls, cooked over the chargrill which you can watch.

We had the pide and the dips here and they were damn good. Quick and friendly service. Would love come again to check out the rest of their menu if I have a chance to in the future

Can’t go wrong with the gympacks!

I absolutely love the garlic mayo here..

The steak, salad, rice + garlic mayo together is probably the best duo right after a sesh of training

If i were to choose one food to eat for the rest of my life, I wouldn’t mind eating this everyday !!

Keep up the good food!!

Great ambiance and really good food.
Really enjoyed the taste of Sahara Turkish food.
Pleased with the quality and quantity of food.
Family friendly option.
This place is nicely located near Westfield Burwood and just 2 min walking from station. I generally eat fries here before I head back to shopping. They are yummy and a good quality for a price. I also like the dip provided by them.
Frankiieshungrytummy
The food at this place wasn't too bad.
Prices are deceiving as I ordered a fetta and spinach pide and on the menu it said $14 but when I got to the counter they charged me $16.
Also it said it comes served with salad but as you can see in the picture, there was no salad to be seen!
My friend ordered a plate and there was the smallest amount of meat on it and so much bread.
Wait time was okay .
Located on the main strip right next to Westfield so is easy to get to but wouldn't recommend it if they can't even get the price or menu items correct.

Its one of the good place to try turkish food. Food was delicious and staff were also friendly. Suggest to try Iskender and Chicken Sahara.
Satisfied with the overall experience.

I went to Sahara by the Park after the movies the other night.
Food, serving people, ambience everything was great. I will def go there again

Great food... Fresh... Full of flavours and served with friendly welcoming waiters. You may have limited options if you go alone as their servings are large with no banquets for one person. Suggest you go in group to try various dips and delights along with turquish booze and beer

Sahara by the park is located just outside Westfield Burwood. They had the fine dining section as well as the takeaway ‘kebab place’ setting. This time around, we went to the fine dining area. The restaurant had quite a nice middle eastern decor. Looking at their menu, it’s a mixture of Middle Eastern dishes with some ‘local’ flavours, like salt and pepper squid and mushroom chicken.

When i walked in i noticed it was really dark. It was really, really dark. The menu items are quite pricey for middle eastern food when i think they just grab it from the takeaway place they have next door. I have tried a lot of middle eastern places and this one is below average. Service wasn't very good. We had to go and find the waiter and ask her to take our order. She didn't bring us a child seat, we had to get one. No child friendly cutlery either. Cutlery and seats were old. Need to be updayed. Not worth the money in my opinion. Go somewhere else.
Msg Makes Me Angry
Asked for a kebab with no onions, dumbshyt (DS) marks it as he takes my order. Wait patiently with girl friend, look at my phone, 25mins has passed. I look up and to my delight DS is making wot seemed like my kebab, but it couldn't have been because he was loading it with onions. He wraps and said my kebabs ready. I told him I didn't want onions. He replies I know. No onions. But I tell him to unwrap it and he says 'Lucky you were watching huh? ' While we were waiting for DB to fix my kebab. The girl on the counter knocks all the sauce displayed on the counter. One bottle breaks and splatters sauce all over my girlfriends jacket. No apology, girl on the counters smirking, I had to demand tissues. This is the second time I found this place offensive. Never again. Going to the kebab joint in the food court.

Sahara by the park is located on the main road of Burwood which people can easily walk past because there is too much competition. Next time don't give Sahara a pass, the Mixed plate is perfect for two and the flavours are great. I loved this place and I still think about it.

The narrow shopfront belies a fairly spacious dining area over two floors. I ordered the lamb salad and they graciously allowed me to swap the protein for grilled chicken. It was a massive bowl of mixed greens and capsicums dressed in a light dressing. It was topped with marinated chicken, gorgeous smoky flavour from the open grill and served with a thick minty yoghurt dip. My friends had the mushroom and chicken pide, the iskender plate and the lamb shanks. All gave the thumbs up but the lamb shanks were particularly impressive in size with a hearty flavour to match. The stew went well with the accompanying rice. My friend commented that the steamed broccoli and carrots could have been softer. Our waitress was patient and quite friendly. However, there didn't seem to be enough staff to cope with service over two floors. It became a game to spot staff and get their attention.

Sahara is one of my favourites casual restaurants. There is a casual, takeaway side and a restaurant side. We always get a pide and a chargrill plate. Serving size is very generous and we never finish it between the two of us. The chicken from the chargrill plate is deliciously moist. The chicken and mushroom pide is also very cheesy and satisfying. Very reasonably priced and good value for money.

Service : good

YES
Sak Suka - fried eggplant and mixed vegetables with red sauce and garlic yogurt

NO
Haloumi stack - boring
Babaganoush - not smokey enough

Really enjoyed my dinner! We ordered the garlic chicken, chicken and mushroom pide, chicken sish and a bowl of chips. I loved the garlic chicken! It wasn't as garlicky as I expected (it had a sort of curry undertone) but it was delicious. They probably could have added a bit more sauce on the plate. The chicken was tender and cooked perfectly. It was also a very generous serving as was the pide! The pide was massive! My friend ordered it for herself but ended up sharing and still only finishing about half. It was good but was quite cheesy. The chips were also delicious. They were seasoned well and crunchy on the outside but soft on the inside. The service here was also good. We were even asked if we'd like the aircon on or off.

Came here for a take away kebab once and it was SO completely unorganized and chaotic. The menu is so hard to understand - all I wanted was a chicken kebab. Because this was the only place open, I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited. Just to get served. His English was so poor he had to get another 2 people to take my order. Once they finally took my order, I paid and I was waiting for my kebab to go. People and had come in and left before me with their orders but I understood they were busy and assumed their orders were "easier" than mine.

After waiting 25 minutes, "excuse, how far away is my kebab?". The guy behind the counter looks at me blankly. "My kebab, where is it?" I ask. "What did you want?" he says to me. "no, no, no - it's not what I want, it's what I already paid for, a chicken kebab." I reply. He picks up something that was sitting near the grill and yells "I was calling you, you to busy on your phone".

Unbeknownst to him, I actually didn't have a phone at the time as I left it at work. Anyways, I rolled my eyes, took what he gave me and was on my way back to work. I open what he gave me and it was lamb on a roll. I walk back and spoke to the only one guy can speak fluent English and politely said, "Oh, uhm, I think there's been a mix up. I ordered a chicken kebab." The other idiot I was dealing with drops what he was doing, chimes in, reaches over the counter and snatches the roll out of my hands and starts (what I assume was abuse), yelling in Arabic. After getting into yet another verbal confrontation with the incompetent human, stupid me waited another 20 minutes for my order. Again, people had come in and left with their food and I was still waiting.

Having enough, I finally gave up and left. I let them keep my kebab. I let them keep my drink. I let them keep my money because they will never get my money ever again. I will never be back - nor will my family or friends.

The grill was very tasty - both the chicken and the lamb were beautiful in taste and texture. The dips were pretty good too. The backlava and the Turkish delight were quite sweet but a good way to end the meal.

Worst Service, I ordered a chargrill and it never even came. They served and gave other people the same order as mine who arrived later but not the guy who came first. I walk downstairs to tell them that it has been 40 minutes since I ordered and they never explained to me what had happened, only just trying to convince me to take the food now so they can get their money. The only time they cook quick is when you tell them they are late and not paying for the food you ordered because in 1 minutes it magically appeared. As I was leaving, the chef was rude enough to just throw the plate down in front of me as in "there's your food that you waited 40 long minutes for, it's here!" and then get angry when I refused to take it and pay for it as I had to leave as I was going to be late to see a movie. Absolutely disrespectful, save your money and go some where else where it is actually good, not there that's for sure!

Its A good place i like the mix grill... The babaganosh dip was amazing and not to forget the turkish apple tea is a must... I would recommend

Best Restaurant in Burwood by far, lovely staff and lovely food! I have been here with friends and family and there never a complaint. Reasonable prices too!
Jennifer
Upon entry into the establishment, we were met with a very quiet and comfortable environment. Suddenly, we were out of the hustle and bustle of the loud and boisterous streets of Burwood. The walls are adorned with traditional quilts and artworks, and the setting is arranged well, giving patrons room to move. The quilts and artworks within really accentuated the visual experience, making the food feel more authentic.

We ordered the Chargrill Platter ($29.50) and Hot Beer Battered Chips ($6.50), between two people.

The Chargrill Platter consisted of:
1 x Adana Skewer
1 x Chicken Skewer
1 x Lamb Skewer
Sides of Aioli Dip, Bread, Raw Onion, Pickled Cabbage and Tomato Salad

The Adana Skewer is a minced meat skewer which was pleasant, but I found the texture a bit to dry for my liking.

The Chicken Skewer was well-cooked, very filling and probably one of the highlights.

The Lamb Skewer was another highlight, it was tender and juicy.

Even though minimal bread is provided, we wrapped some of the salad, meat and dip together in a roll to create a extremely tasty wrap. Personally, this was my favourite way to tackle the platter, as each aspect was able to compliment each other and accentuate the flavour.

I think overall, Sahara by the Park Burwood is a great place to eat when the Middle-Eastern cravings hit. It isn’t too expensive per person, and provides a very calm and relaxing atmosphere, you almost feel like you’re no longer in Burwood. However, I do feel like they could provide more bread, and possibly Tabouli as well. Tabouli is advertised in the photo on their website, but we did not receive any.

The food was AMAZING! Some of the best I have ever eaten and definitely the best middle eastern food I've had. I shared the Iskender and the chargrill with a friend for lunch and every peice was so so so delicious! I can't wait to go back!! 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

I have only been to the restaurant part and not the takeaway side. I don't usually like these kind of food and tend to be sensitive with spices. But!! This one is actually good. Really you should try the chicken when you are near by.

(Takeaway side, not restaurant)

Sahara, and their gym packs....GOLD.
Huge feed, I usually have leftovers. Good, clean, healthy meal, $14 for Chicken, broccoli, brown rice & sauce, or customise whatever combo you want!
Always go for lunch!
I used to frequent this place for their Adana Rolls and they were always fab. Tonight was a little different.
Off the bat, the service was terrible. When I received my meal and was ready to demolish it, after my first bite, it just wasn't quite the same. The meat was ok, and the accompanying salads in the were just ok too. After knowing how great it can be and the terrible service, I don't know if I'll be back in a hurry...

What we had: mixed grilled plate.
Feedback: good mix of lamb, chicken and beef. Extremely generous portions! However there is a 15 mim wait time.
Those chips I havent had them in somewhere else. Very unique. Love that taste. Environment very modern. Grilled beef cooked nicely. well done. we will come again

Best grill I have ever tasted. Nice environment, nice serving. The Mayo spice with garlic is the best. Although the sparking wine is at the average, I am pleased of the overall
Tortuguita Comiendo
Was struggling to decide on a dinner place when we stumbled upon this place and what a find.
My friend and I shared the mixed dips platter and chargrilled platter. We chose babaganoush, hummus and chilli dips. The chilli was definitely my favourite. In the chargrilled platter you get a lamb mince kebab, a chicken one and a beef one. All very nice with the chargrilled flavour but the chicken was really tender and my favourite.

The dips were awesome!! Really tasty. The range of meats offered were juicy and tender! Would definitively recommend the banquet number 2 for min 2 people. Service was quite good as well.

On a whim, I checked out Sahara by the Park in Burwood and was pleasantly surprised. It's got a zomato rating of 3.6 and based on my experience the rating is harsh, I would give it a 4/5 because I had a great experience. . I was seated upstairs which had a laid back atmosphere with music and paintings and little trinkets on the wall.

The food was ok , but nothing to brag about. I can name several Mediterranean restaurants which serve better food in larger quantities for the same price. I came in a party of 4 and all of us had bad meals. My partner found a hair in his dish and when he tried to call the waitress, she ignored him, so he just ended up eating around the hair. I ordered a meal that was too big for me and at the end of dinner asked the waitress if I could have it boxed up to take home (shouldn't be a problem cause they also do a takeaway service) but the waitress gave me some bullsh*t answer about how she couldn't cause there was milk in my dish. What does that have to do with anything? Why is your restaurant the only one I've encountered this problem at?! Honestly, DON'T go to this place, the service is rude, slow and they don't seem to maintain adequate hygiene standards.
Kira Keitomaro
I was unhappy with the service. Our table wanted to order entrees to share, plus 2 mixed grill platters to share between 4 ppl. This was already $25 pp for what we had planned to order excluding drinks or dessert. The lady did not seemed pleased and proceeded to say that the mixed grill would take 30mins and we should order MORE of the main dishes so we could eat sooner. Fine, we decided to order one main to replace the mixed grill instead. What eventuated? The mixed grill actually came out faster than the main. The lady was being dodgy and trying to make us order more food on top of the mixed grills. SOO DODGY!! Having said that the food is actually nice, pity about the service as I wont be coming back.

We had the chicken sheesh and the chicken roll. Must say the chicken was delightful. Probably the best tasting chicken roll I have ever had. The meat was tender and just fantastic. Will def go back to this one :)

I love to go here for chilly prawn (in pot), the best ever so far. It is served with a few pieces of bread but I always need to order more to finish whole pot. Havent tried kebab but my fren said it was good.

Don't bother. Very ordinary dips with not enough bread (when is there ever?). The Haloumi stack was not a stack, was not cooked enough and was not very tasty. The "Iskander" was supposed to be cooked sliced lamb but resembled & tasted like shaved sausage with tomato sauce (ketchup) on squares of bread. Too much to eat but you are not allowed take it away for some inexplicable reason despite having the take away side of the same establishment on the same premises. Oh, and overpriced for what it us. Go to your local kebab shop instead.

Found myself looked down upon very much disappointed. I luv mediterranean cuisine n i know how the people are warm n welcoming but i experience in this restaurant was very disappointing. The staff dint ask me about my order the front counter middle aged staff was busy talking to a young lady for 15 min. Finally i was able to order my shish kabab n they asked me to take a seat after waiting for 20 mins i literally thought they forgot about my order they called shish kebab so i got my food. the staff dint even bother to smile n when i asked about the sauce they said oh you should have asked how can i know what you like> the tone of the restaurant was so aggressive i paid for my food walked out quietly.......i m asian looking n saw them smiling with other customers. Very disappointing we pay for the service n the food......if owner are running the business shouldnt each and every customer be treated equally. NEVER GOING BACK AGAIN VERY BAD ATTITUDE OF THE STAFF.
Amanda Tan
Don't order Iskander!!. First resto I've ever been to that doesn't allow you to take away this particular dish because apparently the used by date is that day. They should've told us before we order the food! If we choose to still order it, we would've eat this and take away the other foods.

Last Friday night I dined with D* and TestHero at Sahara in Burwood. There are two sections to the restaurant. In the first entrance there is a small walkway where people can purchase takeaway. The second entrance is the restaurant section where there are

Hands down one of my favourite restaurants in Sydney, whenever my family wants to go out for dinner we almost every time go to Sahara . incredible staff , incredible food and great atmosphere!

Good food but rude staff. After finishing a long day of work We made it to the restaurant few minutes before closing, and the guy wasn't interested in serving us anymore. It was my first visit to the place, bit I don't think I'll be returning. Don't care how good the food is when the staff rude n almost slams your credit card in the counter.

Staff were more than accomadationg in finding us a table even though we hadn't made a booking on a busy Friday night. Food is decently priced and the servings were huge...very tasty and I would only recommend an entree to share between 2-4 ppl as the dips are also very generous. The noise from the street is sometimes a little loud depending on where you sit. Staff were friendly and very pleasant.

Deserves more stars. Located conveniently on the Burwood Rd frontage of Westfield, with friendly staff, fabulous food and modest cost, Sahara should be much better known. The Turkish menu looks pretty standard, but the servings on large platters are scrumptious. I had lamb salad, my wife chicken shish and my son a kids Shish and chips. All were superb with wonderful seasonings, cooked to perfection aand served beautifully. There are plenty of great vegetarian dishes too. I had been there recently with the local Anglican priest who was welcomed by Omar like a brother and knew Omar makes his own amazing gelatos. So we went for the Chocolaterie and the Black Forest deserts. Wow! Huge serves with irresistible combinations of flavours - absolute perfection. We'll be back regularly from now on.

Delicious!. Loved the atmosphere of this restaurant - sumptuous and lively. The food is mouth-watering and when our dishes arrived we weren't disappointed. We had a platter of grilled meats and dips (can't remember the name of the dish) but it's the mixed platter and if you aren't sure what to get, this is a great start! Everything was succulent and tasty - can't wait to go back...mmmm....yum! Reasonably priced, great service too.
Kathleen Ooi
Food wasn't amazing but wasn't terrible either. Id recommend the dips platter (the bread is warm and really good) and the chicken shish which is very very tender and juicy. Other meats can bye a bit dry and tough
RACHEL
Love their chilli prawn with bread. Always have this with other skewers. No regrets!
Alice Phan
Yes to the Pepperoni Pide. I absolutely love the range of dips! My favourite thing here have to be their Pepperoni Pide and incredibly well-seasoned chips, they're fantastic.
As for their meats, I don't fancy their lamb or pork too much - both times I've had it, they were dry and over cooked. The winner (winner chicken dinner hehe) is their chicken!
Andrew R Buchel
Reasonably priced, great servings, tender meats and tasty sides. Always a favorite
Big Belly
Nice flavours although meat was very dry and over cooked.

BEST TURKISH LUNCH EVER. This place is amazing!!! The food is the most delicious and tasty I have ever eaten. The service is efficient and friendly. The decor is beautiful and it has a really nice atmosphere. The meat was absolutely delicious and just amazing. I can't describe how good the food was, YOU HAVE TO GO HERE!
