Review Foodie Meet - Burwood

We had lunch recently on a busy Sunday and ordered two of their lunch menu items i.e. the fried rice w/ grilled pork neck and the seafood + abalone congee. We also ordered the warm ginger tea and ice lemon tea for drinks. The food in general has good taste though not traditional Cantonese (modern / fusion style) and we like the pork neck and fried rice also not too tasty / salty which is good for our taste buds. The congee is also good with fresh seafood pieces (fish, prawn, scallop and abalone). Both dishes have generous portion for the prices charged, so it is quite good value for your money. However, the ginger tea drink is a bit pricey for $5 / cup. The place has quite good ambience, but the customer service from floor staff could be patchy during busy times. You can pay with credit cards but pay additional 1.5% surcharge.

The food is good. We had no issues with staff. Serving sizes are generous.

Restaurant appears to have changed owners. Food isn't as good as it used to be. Dishes have chips and cracks and the cups are disgusting. The entree came last after all the mains and was freezer burnt and soggy. I'm disappointed because I've been coming to this place for years. I was so excited to come back for the first time after lockdowns and twice I've been let down now. This is unfortunate but I will not be returning again.

We have ordered steam chicken with chili oil, salted egg yolk spare ribs and a veggie dish. The chicken dish was a bit pink and honestly it looked like pork. I had a bite and I didn’t have another bite again of that dish, it was inedible. It was the worst dish ever. I could have cooked better than what we have been served. The salted egg yolk spare ribs dish tasted funky as well, it was supposed to be salty and tasty but it was sweet and not pleasant to the palate. Lastly it was the veggie dish, it was the only thing that we could eat even though it was very oily. I would never stepped a foot back into this restaurant again, we have spent roughly $35 per person but we left with our tummy half full.

Very disappointing. Ordered 4 dishes and all below par and not as good as dishes elsewhere. Had the free range chicken, serving was small, quarter of a chicken, $30. The same dish at mama wok at Rhodes tastes so much better and you get double the serving for few dollars more. The fried rice was oily and the serving was tiny. The wagyu beef with mushroom and beans was on the salty side, OK but definitely had better. The worst dish was the deep fry eggplant, the eggplant was undercooked and hard, and had no taste, not even close to Mr Stonebowl version. Overall $95 for 3 adults, wasn't full and went around the corner for some more street food. Might have been unlucky with the dishes we choose, but there's a better version of all them in another restaurant, hence will not be back.

Stay well away from this place! Ordered their curried beef, the very few meat in there were chewy af! Their chicken katsu is so sus, I’m quite sure the meat isn’t chicken at all. Overall, the best thing about this restaurant are the pictures of their food so I’m giving them a single star. Such a shame zero or negative stars aren’t a thing.

Good service, staffs were nice and polite. Menu didn’t specify hidden ingredients/allergens such as peanuts. If you have specific food allergy please make sure you ask the staff there. Food was on the oily and salty side which definitely affected our appetite. The beef noodles and fried rice have a great stir-fry aroma. The melon fried milk dessert was really unique, worth a try.

One of the top Chinese restaurants in Burwood. We’ve dined here on many occasions and have not been disappointed Great selection of dishes with overall quality being consistently high. Lunch specials are available and the service is above average.

Very creative Chinese fusion cuisine. That's all it takes to bring good food.
