Great place to go to if you have dumpling cravings! Had the XLB, pan fried dumplings, Sichuan and peanut sauce dumplings and the curry beef noodle soup. The XLB and pan fried dumplings were definitely the stand out dishes - portion size was good (very generous with the filling which was j00c3y) and dumpling skin was nice and thin; the pan fried dumplings were cooked perfectly and had a good crisp to them. The curry beef noodle soup was flavourful and very clean tasting. Good price and fast and friendly service too!

The sort of delicious, no-fuss dumplings and friendly service that you can get at Yang’s was exactly what my boyfriend and I needed on a cold winter’s night. Although you can get pre-packaged sets to-go, the short wait for freshly steamed and fried dumplings are worthwhile. My boyfriend and I initially ordered one set of XLB (6 pcs) and pork/veggie fried dumplings (6pcs) for just under $20. We were so impressed with the delicious filling, hot broth and great texture of the dumpling skins that we couldn’t help but order an extra set of XLB. We highly recommend Yang’s and will definitely frequent here whenever we are in need of real comfort food.

We ordered a range of dumplings which were all delicious (XLB, spicy wonton in chilli oil and peanut sauce, and pan fried pork dumplings amongst others). Yang’s dumplings does not offer as much variety as other dumplings places, however, they do offer complimentary lemon tea which is a definite bonus.

Quick and cheap dumplings area tasty and ready for pick up.
This is the express shop with minimal seating area (4-6 seats) food will come out quick and boxed up.

Located close to the Burwood Chinatown arcade ... Unless you want to sit there's a nother shop close by.

We  only tried their pan fried pork buns today, but it's already quite impressive.
It was only served warm (which is good, because of the soupiness of the dumplings), but it's still crunchy at the bottom.
I like the relatively thinner skin, and the huge and juicy pork filling. Every bite is juicy with soup spraying out, it's ultra delicious. I have to come again!

With a soft spot for Shanghai ever since visiting the amazing city, the next course in my progressive Burwood dinner was an easy choice. Yang’s Dumpling makes a great case for Shanghainese food on their social media. They’ve been in Shanghai for more than two decades, and are particularly well established in Burwood, boasting not one, but two outlets. The one I visited is their hole-in-the-wall express outlet on Burwood Road. It has just two tables and a couple of bar stools for those waiting for takeaway. The tiny store has a surprisingly hipster fit-out that includes the requisite fake flower-laden bike, caged Edison bulbs and shelves holding jarred food and plastic pot plants, along with a particularly fetching white maneki neko (lucky cat). The menu is short, the service is brusque, but the dumplings really are excellent. You’re here for sheng jian bao or Pan Fried Pork Buns ($8.80/6). They’re crisp-bottomed, doughy...

Makes some fresh high quality dumplings that are tasty and very filling. Great place to pop-in and order some takeaway. They have a simple selection available which makes choosing really easy.

Gotta love authentic shang food here.

Their famous fried buns are absolutely juicy and infact hands down they have the best buns in Sydney!
The other items on their menu are just as good and authentic.
Would love to have an attentive waiter to clean all the plates on the table though...

But yes, this place is a bang for the buck if you just want a nice simple lunch/dinner for the day.

I had the pan fried pork buns for brunch as I’d heard lots of good stuff about this place. I had the half pork and half pork + veg, the latter being my fav! The dough is nice and thin with a crispy bottom and the filling was juicy and tasty 😍 yum

My friend said these were “the best fried pork buns in Sydney” and indeed, they were very juicy and perfectly fried. If you aren’t careful when taking a bite, you can accidentally spray the soup everywhere. As a late night snack, these are quite satisfying, go towards closing for a possibly discount if you plan on buying more.

The best pan fried pork buns that I've ever had. Normally I am not a big fan of pan fried pork buns because after the consumption of 2 or 3, I will feel full and won't be able to try other dishes. So I always preferred to eat Siu Long Bao instead. But the pork buns from Yang's Dumping were so amazingly good! The bun is thinner so u wouldn't feel like all you eating is bun. And the pork filling is so juicy as well.

Cute little place just opposite of Bank of China.
This concept is express dumpling place, for take away, for sure, but if you want to dine in, you have to wait, because the provided only 2 table for 2 only.
Never mind about the tiny place, because in my opinion dumpling is awesome.
Little bit more expensive than China Town, ( by alchemy he way burwood is new China town, soon!) but I think it’s worth it.
From the place I sat, I can see directly the kitchen, where the chef making this beauty.
Pan fried dumpling with soup inside, I kinda like it.
So, it’s not your typical Xiao Long Bao!
I like the crunch bits on the bottom, due to caramelization, and still have soup to give enough sauce

Would rate this place for dumplings in the area. The pan fried dumplings came out hot and crispy on the bottom but lacked in soup on the inside. Waiting time was 20 minutes and the place is small and cramped up. It's more designed for take away but you'd rather eat the dumplings when they're fresh.

When we did our China Trip earlier in the year, one of the places we were recommended to hit in Shanghai was Yang’s Dumplings. A chain of famous long established dumpling houses; Yang’s churns out pastry encased dumplings – filled with delicious meat juices that are hot and squirty.

The pan fried pork buns & steamed pork dumplings (xiao long bao) were both excellent. They were filled w an impressive amount of delicious piping hot broth inside. The pan fried pork buns also had a well seared crispy bottom. Food arrived at the table very quickly. Was lucky enough to be able to eat in as it is a tiny takeaway shop w only 2 small seated tables.

Before I go into the review, I must state my credentials. I am somewhat of a shengjian mantou expert. I lived next to the Yang's flagship store (before it was relocated to the subway station) in JingAn district ever since I was little, and ate 12 Yang's everyday for breakfast since the age of 4. You could say I've easily devoured more than 1000 Yang's dumplings.

In Melbourne, I have not found one restaurant that came close in imitating that real shengjian texture and taste. When i found out Sydney actually has a Yang's store, I travelled here just to taste the dish of my childhood. What disappointed me was that I did not see my buns in the 1.5m cast iron pan frying away with scallions on top. Instead they were prepackaged into those boxes ready for takeaways, blasphemy! This doesn't give the bun a crispy bottom, which is my favourite part other than the soup.

The skin texture though came pretty close to the real thing, the meat tasted slightly different, I cannot pin point what's missing. Maybe australian pork just tastes different to shanghainese pork. I would like to go back and try again some day, as other reviewers have mentioned the lack of consistency at this place.

If Yang's Dumplings ever want to establish a store in Melbourne, I'd be interested in buying up.

Founded in 1994 in Shanghai China, Yang's Dumplings is a household name in Shanghai.  It is also one of the restaurant I must visit every time I travel to Shanghai China.  So you can imagine how excited I was when I found out they opened up its first outlet in Sydney.

In the 40 degrees heat, I traveled to Burwood where the mainly take-up Yang's Dumplings is located.  Inside the tiny shop there are only two tables for eat-in.  In addition to its classic pan fried dumplings, you can also find shallot pancakes and Xiao Long Bao on the menu.

The pan fried dumplings come in pork or vegetable and pork.  You can either get 6 pieces of the same fillings or mix them up for $8.80.  We purchased one serve of 6 pork dumplings and one serve of mixed pork and pork vegetable.

People who have tried Yang's Dumpling in China would know it is renewed for three things - thin skin, large fillings, and most importantly generous amount of juice.  These are the three criteria that I used to judge the outlet in Burwood.

Skin - it is thinner than most pan fried dumplings I have tried in Sydney such as New Shanghai or Taste of Shanghai, but its not quite as thin as they are in China.

Large filling - this is definitely a tick.  The pork filling is the size of a ping pong ball, and fills up most of the skin.

Generous amount of juice - as you can see from the picture the soup inside the dumplings is definitely visible. Even after a few hours, it was still juicy after being heated up in microwave.

My only other comment is the flavour is not quite up to the standard in Shanghai, something is lacking.  The ones I had in Shanghai are much tastier.

Last but not the least, the shallot pancake is too thick and bland, I won't bother with it again next time.

Yang's is a tiny dumpling shop but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in deliciousness. We shared the pan fried mixed pork buns and the pork xiao long bao. I've eaten my share of these in other places but these were outstanding, especially the pan fried pork buns with shepherds purse. The distinct flavour of the vegetable complemented the meat really well, the bottoms were crispy, the dough had a pleasant chew and the insides were still filled with delicious soup. Loved the rustic shape of the fried buns as well. The xiao long bao were also little parcels of goodness. Skin was not as delicate as Din Tai Fung but they were more satisfying with a tasty filling. You can watch the dumplings being made in the kitchen. Prepare to get a takeaway as there's a grand total of 6 seats and 2 tables. You can eat inside Burwood Plaza as there is a common dining area. Would definitely return for those awesome pan fried buns!

The cutest little store specialising in takeaway pork buns and dumplings. Choose from panfried pork buns, steamed dumplings and spring onion pancakes. We had the pork buns to share, and managed to nab a spot at one of the two tiny tables along the wall. Yum! Messy eating at its best.

Had the Xiao Long Bao (Dumplings filled with soup) and it was surprisingly good. The flavour was tasty, it was the right amount of soup vs meat ratio. That's all I had and will definitely be back for more and try other items on the menu

Absolutely amazing dumplings here.

The inside is juicy and filled with delicious soup. The skin of the dumpling is very crispy and the meat in side finishes off nicely.

Def recommend

The famous shenjianbao shop from shanghai. Coming from shanghai and after hearing the hype of this place I excitedly went to check it out... I was disappointed. it wasn't close to the quality that I remember from shanghai. The skin wasn't crispy and was quite thick and the flavour of the soup didn't hit quite hit the spot.

Edit: had it a second time and it seemed to be much better so updating my rating, I must have had a bad batch the first time. The soup was good and the skin bottom was more crispy

Shanghai's most famous Sheng jian bao- Yang's dumpling came to Sydney just a few weeks ago. Though there are many debates on whether Xiao Yang Sheng Jian is the authentic shanghai Sheng jian, I personally like Yang's dumpling a lot when I was back in China. Glad to see that there are more Chinese restaurant chains go international and bring more Chinese cuisine to the world.

Hey be careful with the hot soup inside the Bao. And Sheng jian Bao goes well with vinegar and hot chill oil :)

Yang's Dumpling, a well-known Fried Dumpling shop all over China, has opened its first shop in Australia. The shop is on the Main Street of Burwood. Though it's small, but it stands out among these restaurants. The warm bright colour and brand new decoration makes everyone feel nice.
There are only two main fried dumplings, one is pork, the other is vegetable. Well, the new shop is quite popular and I queued for half an hour.
The fried dumpling is nice with delicious juice inside the dumpling. A little bit suggestion is that the base can be a thinner.

Yang's Dumpling its a taste of Shanghai/China's super brands signature Sheng jian bao, fried crispy dumpling with hot soup inside when you bite.

On our visit arriving at 1pm then waiting till 2pm doors open, only the signature pork dumplings was available and luckily we were able to get 1 of 2 tables to dine inside.

Its a small takeaway shop with the Master Chef and Local Partner testing the market. Production of the Sheng Jian Bao is limited so be sure to get in there early and dont be surprised if the person in front of you buys 10orders...then you have to give your mobile number and come back 1-1.5hours later.
