Review Chongqing Street Noodle - Burwood

mike huynh
Standard Asian restaurant service type, where you get menu and go up to order. But food provide was tasty and awesome, had Mongolian noodle and some ice jelly. The noodles was fantastic, had the right elasticity and packed a punch. The ice jelly really goes well after a spicy noodle dish.

Went here using a groupon. Hassle free scanning and the options was explained clearly. Decent noodles but nothing too spectacular though

I read many negative reviews about this place, but still decided to give it a try. Because I lived in Chongqing for a few years and loved the food. Well, should've listened to the reviews. A big bowl of bland noodle, with a few flavourless decorative beef dices. The soup is poorly crafted, I can tell many spices are missing. The texture of noodle was almost squishy. Far from authentic. It's an insult to my love for Sichuan/Chongqing food. Sigh... One star for the polite staff.

I love Chonqing Street noodles and crave it regularly. Great for spicy food lovers - I always get extra spicy classic noodles, tea egg and tofu salad.

Loved their noodles and spice. Chicken in the noodle was super tender and infused beautifully with home made chilly sauce. Got a jar of the chilly sauce and am so excited to try it out with my food. The staff are also friendly and lovely. I'll definitely go back for their lovely dishes.

Noodles all tasted quite similar. Sweet and sour soup noodles lacked any real flavour. Portion sizes were pretty average - ordered 4 noodles + 3 sides between two couples

Very flavoursome food. Somewhat exotic if you are into offal!

Great cheap feed for noodle lovers! Noodles are handmade and are quite delicious, Colours and flavours are strong and has a nice spicy kick. Will try other dishes so I definitely would visit again. Lots of people will be quite happy here for value.

The food was great! Signature noodles and beef noodles were amazing. Got medium spicy for both and it was perfect! Free self-serve tea and water. Service was great and food came out in under 10 mins. Highly recommend.

The main noodles were good but we didn't really enjoy any of the sides. The crumbed and fried sweet potato was particularly disappointing.

Chongqing is absolutely delicious if you're looking for a hearty filling meal and a bit of spice to go with. The Chongqing Noodles with Beef come in a pretty good portion size and a good amount of beef for my liking (but can understand that some people would think it's not enough). The dish has the perfect kick of savoury and spicy and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a guaranteed delicious meal!

Spacious restaurant with good service. Noodles were fresh, tender and tasty. The broth was very oily, but that is why you come to a place like this.
Aimee.
So many different dishes available to order. There are a lot of small side dishes you can choose from if you want to try a bit of everything. The noodles were delicious and filled with hearty broth and flavour.

Its a very casual place to have food as well as watch sports. Music is good and ambience is dark but happening. You must try Chicken Lollipop here wid a glass of Wheat Beer. Staff is cooperative and service is also relatively fast. I would recommend this place for hang outs.

CALLING ALL SPICY LOVERS 🌶🥵 I ordered ‘mild’ spicy beef noodles and let me tell you, this isn’t for the faint hearted 😰 The flavour of the beef was lovely but even mild was too chilli for me! Other dishes pictured: tomato beef noodles (for the weak folks like me who can’t take spice 😅), spicy beef tripe and spicy chips 🍟 The chips were nicely soaked in that chilli oil so it was a bit soggy but full of flavour.

Food was tasty nothing to fault. Free water and tea was self serve.
Chongqing Street Noodles is our go to place for cheap noodles with a spicy kick. Favourite side dish has got to be the You Mai salad which has a nutty and spicy/sweet sauce similar to satay. All the noodle dishes are great as well but special mention to the beef tendon noodles and prawn/pork wontons.

Definitely the local restaurant to go to if you are craving for a good hand made noodle soup!! Especially spicy noodles!!! —- to satisfied those spicy cravings!

For a cheap but fulfilling feed, this is the place to go! Satisfying noodle dishes here 🙂

Decent Chongqing noodles in Burwood, toppings were lacking - chopped greens as a cheaper alternative to bok choy, though noodles and beef were decent. Soup can be quite spicy so beware, desserts are quite nice and reflect traditional styles although the restaurant seems to follow cost efficient recipes.

Authentic Chongqing noodles along with a good varieties of small dishes. 😀 There are different spicy levels of heat to suit your taste. The broth is rich & full of complexity compared to other places. The thick layer of chilli oil over the top is certainly not a healthy option but it adds extra flavour to the soup. For a healthier option & non spicy item, Chicken Mushroom Noodles is the perfect choice. It has a beautiful sweet broth accompanied with chicken pieces & Chinese mushroom. 🙂

If you can handle the heat, you can try Spicy Sliced Beef & Ox Tongue. It’s a cold dish & I loved the a generous amount of sliced beef & ox tongue marinated and bathed in a spicy chilli sauce with peanuts. There is a touch of numbing Sichuan peppercorns in the sauce, make sure to have a drink handy. 😙

The mixed noodle bowl comes with a bit of everything. I especially love the pork hock and imtestine. The dumplings were nicely made with good fillings. The broth is oily but it's favoured oil so can't really avoid it. The popcorn chicken is really good, would recommend that.

I love coming here for a warm hearty meal. Highly recommend the Chongqing Noodles with Beef (level 2 spice). Delicious spicy broth and soft noodles. Service is quick and welcoming staff.
Julie Nguyen
Highly rate this place for their pork and prawn dumplings and noodles! If you love spice and the numbing Sichuan pepper kind of spicy you’ll definitely enjoy!! Only thing was the wontons don’t come with noodles so you have to order that separately which costs an extra $2. Super quick service and will be back to try their other noodle dishes!

When the noodle came out I was excited to try it, but I was wrong. I got the beef noodle and it was extremely salty. After coming out I felt so sick in my stomach that I was walking crooked. I was also thirsty for the entire night. I didn’t enjoy it. I won’t come here again cause it was that bad.

We visited on a Tuesday night, got their tomato beef noodles and prawn/pork wontons in a spicy soup.

Both soups from both dishes were a bit meh, having a very home cooked flavour (blander, not that much oomph). Wontons also heaps soft and okay tasting, nothing to write home about. The source of the spice in the wonton soup was purely in the chili oil floating on top of the soup in a rather thick layer. Did provide some kick but after it got too oily, i scooped most of the top out and the soup got kind of bland.

I've been to one other place in burwood, can't remember what the other place was called but the soups there were nicer and noodles were handpulled.

Decor was cute with a, grandma/cat mascot, workers reasonably nice. Clean looking place, not too packed but not super empty either.

Prices were reasonably cheap, wonton soup being $9.80, tomato noodles being 13.50.

Other people didn't seem to be ordering the noodle dishes and the other dishes also looked pretty good, so I'll probably come back to try those, and edit rating accordingly.

Note: wonton soup actually didn't come with noodles like id thought, so i scooped some of the other noodles into my dish (as seen in photos).

From my perspective, they are the best Chongqing noodles joint in Sydney for sure.

I still remember the first time I visit them was on 25 Dec 2017 with my bestie. And there taste, quantity and quality have been keeping the same high standard since they opened.

Soft Peas and mince noddles, one of our transitional signatures, are improved in the taste and appearance; and also, soft peas melt in the mouth and green vegetables and mince balance the dish.

Anyway, a must try dish. And thanks god they opened its city store!!! Fabulous!!!!

My lovely Guorium🧪 loves peas and mince noddles as well. Lol 😝

Signature Street Noodle : 😍 Amazing
Beef Noodle : 😁 Great
Crispy Pork : 😍 Amazing

Chongqing noddles are probably one of the best ones I’ve had for a long time. I had the signature street noodle dish and I loved every bite. The broth of the beef noodle dish was a little bland but I don’t know if it’s because I had my dish first? Either way it was still yummy and the noodles were delicious. Crispy Pork was so good too but yes ... it’s literally deep fried pork skin. No real table service here but the staff were still very friendly.
Strawberry_vee
Chongqing Street Noodle has a good range of spicy noodles. I enjoyed the beef & tendon spicy noodles even though the meat to noodle ratio wasn’t the best. If you’re not a fan of spicy noodles, they have chicken & mushroom soup which was also nice. They also make fresh watermelon juice.
Hemi Guahk
Ordered shrimp wonton with chicken soup noodles. The soup was bursting with flavour and the wontons and noodles were delicious but the soup itself was a bit too oily for my liking.
Susan
Friendly service and okay food. The signature noodle was very nice and so was the crispy pork, which was nice and juicy too. I highly recommend those!
The ChongQing Beef noodle was flavorless for me. It’s seem as though they use chill oil, so the more chili, the more oil? The broth wasn’t strong so that was a let down.
NB: I eat fairly hot and the 3 chili didn’t even give me a kick, so if you can handle chili maybe go straight to 4 or more. I also think that depending on the noodle you choose the spice impact is different...

Been waiting to try this place!
Had the Chong Qing Noodles with beef.
Service was quick and noodles arrive loaded up with chilli, slow cooked beef, peanuts, garlic and thrown in with some coriander (and loads of other herbs my rookie palette can’t figure out).
You can choose your chilli level as well in case you prefer a milder flavour. We love this place and can’t wait to go back!

Decent and cheap spicy noodle joint, but nothing too special.
We got 2 noodles to share, one at normal spice and one at extra spicy. There's a difference, but it's not unbearable. The pork intestines are cleaned properly and is flavourful.
There's quite a bit of heat on the spicy ox tongue, it's delicious.
For the price we pay, the portions are generous.
Minimal service.

Great place to go for a cheap, quick fix. After we were seated, we headed to the counter to order. I felt like we waited for 2 mins before all the food arrived! We were in and out of the restaurant in less than 30 mins.
Signature noodles: It didn't have a soup but more of a thick, flavoursome sauce that coated and surrounded the noodles. It had a kick to it but was not very spicy so it's a great pick for those who can't handle that much spice but don't want to get a non-spicy dish.
Spicy sliced beef & ox tongue: Yum! Beef was nice and tender and there was that signature numbing spice. The onions and peanuts really cut through the spice
Spicy cucumber salad: One of my favourite dishes! It was in the same spicy sauce but it had extra seasoning on it, though I'm not quite sure what. It was so flavourful and refreshing, the perfect way to cut through the spice and give your mouth a break
Steamed chicken with chilli sauce: It wasn't dry, but my only comment would be that I have had chicken that is more moist. Still a great dish!
Deep fried crispy pork: Crispy and juicy, and their homemade chilli powder is delicious.
Tortuguita Comiendo
Delicious food at a very reasonable price. The spicy dumplings were nice at first but the more you eat the more numb your mouth due to all the peppercorns. My friend had chicken and mushroom soup noodles. The noodles were well made and cooked and the soup base was delicious. Huge servings. The crunchy vegetable salad was nice and refreshing.

If you love sichuan chilli, you will definitely enjoy this restaurant! We ordered the Chongqing Street Noodles and Chongqing Noodles with Beef in level 3 spicy. We found it wasn’t too spicy, I really enjoyed the flavour and the slight numbing effect from the sichuan chilli. We also ordered the Deep Fry Crisp Pork. It was a little dry but the homemade chilli powder is to die for!

Great interior and exceptional service from the girls there! The dishes are very affordable too!

Spicy Chinese noodles from the Chongqing Cuisine is no joke, I love the potato noodles and the spicy flavours. Nice and numbing with a little kick.
Savagefoodaholic
Chongqing street noodles. When I walked into the restaurant, it is really clean and has a nice decor. Have two order and pay first. The noodles flavor was very nice! Full of flavor and the braised beef was super tender. I added the pork intestine and pork brains which were super delicious.

However the side dishes were pretty bad. I We ordered the smoked chicken. And they gave us the driest chicken that I have ever eaten. The only thing I can taste was Smokey salty dry chicken bread meat. I’m not sure why they have to make it so dry. Even if you cold smoke meat you could still keep the meat nice and juicy.

Second side dish we ordered was the fried pork belly. It was ok, nothing special. Again just sliced pork belly that was battered and deep fried season with Sichuan salt which had a numb and salty flavor. Overall it’s alright, if I do go back I would just get the noodles.

** follow me on insta @savagefoodaholic **

Had to go order and pay for the food before they were served.
Ordered beef tendon noodles and some side dishes. The noodles itself was really tasty but the tendons were hard chew and the soup was not spicy enough as for authenticity.
Side dishes were delicious. Overall experience was alright.
Yeeeeeet
Quick service! Noodles were really good, probably the best Chongqing noodles I’ve ever had in Australia - they taste authentic and are really similar to the ones I’ve had in Chongqing. The price is pretty reasonable considering what you get as well.

A clean casual Chinese noodle restaurant. A great variety of noodle selections, and you can choose the spicy level for your noodles. If you really like spicy food you should have a try of "very spicy" or "crazy spicy".

I ordered {Pork Mince and Pea noodles}. One thing that disappoints me is that I was running out of noodles but there're still a lot mince and peas remaining in the bowl. Although the bowl looks big but the actual quantity of the noodles are small. If you're hungry you should also order some cold dishes.

Great restaurant with amazing food. Staff was very friendly. Although it did take a while for one of our dishes to come out, it definitely paid off with the amazing flavours and spice in the dishes we ordered.

Came on a Friday night so it was a bit busy, but still had a few empty seats so we were seated right away.

I would definitely come back again. One of my favourite new places in Burwood!

Great if you enjoy spicy food 🌶
Rustic ambience, open, friendly staff, grab-your-own drink, order at the counter kinda vibe.

I ordered the wonton noodle soup (as it’s one of the few non-spicy dishes). It was great for value. All the elements; noodles (possibly handmade), broth (fresh) & wontons (yummy) made the dish delicious. ESP knowing it’s under $10! Value.

As for the spicy dishes. I heard they were average/good, but not amazingly unique. Also, you can ask them to up the spice.
Daniel
Given it an average rating because it really isn't my taste. Most things are quite spicy and the rest have less spice in it or come from a part of an animal I'm not sure about. I suspect Chongqing is cold place where hot and chilli food is sought after, similar to Korea I guess.

I admit that I don't have an appreciation for this style of food. I only went because my parents wanted to try it. Still... I finished my bowl of noodles... it wasn't too bad.

If you're a person that enjoys spicy food, then this is the place to go. They even have a spicy/chilli rating to indicate how hot the dish is.

This place has a nice atmosphere and really friendly staff, we had the pork and pea noodle soup which was flavoursome and the noodles where nice and chewy, the cold noodles where strong in flavour that we enjoyed and really big portion for the price, beef appetiser was also really good and had a awesome chewy mouth feel but was still tender, the best was the deep fried pork which was delicious Sichuan peppercorn flavour and was extra crunchy on the outside with tender meat on the inside, the meat is extra thinly cut but still juicy, I will definitely come back to try more dishes and highly recommend
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Busy casual eatery in Emerald Square, serving up lots of spicy meals, and a limited selection for those that are chilli-shy. Order at the counter and meals are delivered to the table, with self-service tea and water. The peas in the pork mince and peas noodle dish was unexpectedly chickpeas!
Justin Woo
The noodles can get quite spicy if you get the highest amount. I recommend the normal to mid higher range if you don't want to sweat your pants off. There can be more meat in the noodles which would make it better and the noodles taste great. The spice can give your lips a numbing effect, overall would recommend to everyone to try once. The water with lemon is self serve and it is a fast service. Nice atmosphere with a TV and air-conditioned. Around $13 for noodles with Beef Brisket. They can add more variety in their menu.

Very good place for a quick eat. Fast service for food. The noddles were cooked to perfection. However, the soup was very oily and the spices used wouldn't suit everyone. Also quite pricey for what they give.

Hot and spicy noodle, at least you could choose level of hotness here , I went for light, was perfect for me.
Had noodle and cold cut chicken and a cold noodle as side, noodle cooked perfect, love the chicken in chilli oil. Shop was packed but people move fast, not long waiting time. Barely any service, you sit down, you walk to order from the counter, you grab yourself some tea and utensils, mainly self serving.
Dishes feature Sichuan peppercorns numbing heat and chilli heat, don't venture out too much if you can't handle chilli, remember, it burns both ends.
Sydneyguyrojoe
95% of the menu is spicy! So if you can handle your chilli 🌶 don't come! And I can't! Even my missus pickled Veges and chicken had so much pepper in it I had s coughing fit after one taste
My mushroom chicken noodle soup was disappointing, the noodles were chewy and there is 5 pieces of chicken with the bones!
At least the shredded potato was nice but even they put chilli oil in this but don't tell you it's had chilli on it.
Did not enjoy it but it's busy so they are doing something right
The Engineer Eats
Headed to Chongqing Street Noodle for lunch one Sunday, the place was packed! Certainly a good sign. Menu consists of a variety of noodles and side dishes. We ordered the Signature noodle soup, Chongqing noodle and the Mince and Bean noodle along with sides of fungus and seaweed.

The two side dishes came quickly, they were cold and had a hint of Szechuan taste to it. Our noodles came not long after and they look hot! As in the spicy kind. Mine had a thick broth which was quite good but my hubby did not like his, thin soup with an intense Szechuan flavor (hot and numbing) he couldn't finish it. Not his dish at all. Tea is self service. The meals were reasonably priced.

The place is one of the new restaurants located on the ground floor of the new Emerald Square development near Burwood Plaza. I popped in for lunch on a Thursday and it was fairly busy but the restaurant is quite large with enough tables and chairs. I ordered the Pork Mince and Noodles at the counter and it took less than 5 minutes for them to bring them to my table. The noodles were perfectly cooked with a perfect chewy texture. This place isn't for the faint hearted with a decent amount of chilli in every dish. With all the new restaurant openings in Burwood I would recommend adding Chongqing Street Noodle to the list of places to visit.
