Review Bello The Shelter - Burwood

fe3eats - Fee & Gee
Instagram worthy dishes. Free parking. Great for a spot to eat between shopping. We forgot trendy cafes like these have breakfast menus and lunch menus. We came here for the lunch menu. But arrived too early so we had to settle for the breakfast menu. It wasn’t bad. The menu is quite interesting. With food paired with ingredients that you wouldn’t think worked together. We were not so adventurous to order the salmon macarons. We stuck with a bit of ‘sandwich counselling’ with a ‘dr. Phil’ sandwich, which is chicken and avocado. And a ‘magic mushrooms’ which was a vegetarian plate of mushrooms with brioche and egg. The dishes looked delightful. And didn’t taste bad either. Will have to go again for the lunch menu.

The food here is like you’re in Willy Wonka’s Factory, Candyland or a fantasy fit for unicorns. Splashes of colour, lollies and Oreos, you’re in magical place, worlds away from the shopping centre you’re actually at. Bello the shelter is located at the entrance to Westfield Burwood and is a large cafe with quaint homely style theming and sizeable booths and space for plenty of people to enjoy all day breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. It was super busy when we there, buzzing with excited diners. The owners are extremely passionate about their business, working hard for over 20 years to keep this a thriving cafe, adapting to the customers and current food climate. They are really hospitable and welcome us to experience their wonderful cafe. A group foodies joined together on this occasion, ordering a range of the favourites to share. We began with some beautiful coloured lattes, the rose flavour - a hot pink cup of goodness, that tasted exactly like Rose! Accompanying this was a fluro purple taro latte. They have plenty more flavours on offer, so make sure you ask - they’re secret! Then come the two drinks that anyone will jump with excitement at. The Candy land milkshake: a bubblegum milkshake topped with fairy floss, lollypops, sugar straps, gummy lollies and more to make your dreams a reality. The second one, a chocolate version with Oreos, brownies, chocolate wafers and cream, you cannot come without ordering one of these. Another beautiful dish is the Organic Granola with Seasonal fruits, poached pear, served with fruit and organic honeycomb, complete with small jars of syrup, milk and coloured cereal. For a savory selection, we went with the Egyptian style “Basturma Omelette” – free range eggs with olives and fresh tomatoes and a side of sourdough. There’s some other interesting options, which we didn’t have but worth a try are the “Salmon macarons” or a brioche French toast with matcha, dulce de leche and gold leaf. Whilst we picked some of the super interesting options, they do have your typical foods like benedict, Bacon and egg rolls, avocado on toast and more. From the lunch menu we couldn’t go past the “Season” – the charcoal bun with a grass-fed angus beef patty, with double hi-melt American cheese, roasted capsicum, beetroot balsamic, bacon, oak lettuce, tomato and secret sauce. They also have a burger called “Viral” that is crumbed and deep fried with pickles, jalepenos, salsa and sour cream, this is not for the faint hearted and sure to go crazy with the insta crowds. In addition to this, the menu has a range of other burgers, ribs, hanging skewers, steak and schnitzels as well as salads. A great café to take a break from shopping but it’s also a destination café that is certainly worth specifically travelling to. Food to suit any market and there are quality inventive dishes but also regular menu choices if you’re not as adventurous. We certainly plan a revisit.

Great service, surprisingly good food (CGP Grey would recommend you try the French toast - if you get the reference). They are fairly pricey, but to be honest I was not disappointed. We had the unicorn cappuccino, English breakfast tea, the "Avotar" and the "not a morning person", with special requests and everything was presented as requested and absolutely delicious.

A spacious, modern cafe at the entrance of Burwood Westfield, I was really looking forward to trying the food here after seeing so many pretty pictures. Food is undoubtedly beautifully presented, colourful & fun. Taste wise its good and enjoyable but did take quite a while to come out & on the pricier side. Coffee was average, service friendly & overall an enjoyable experience.

Lovely place to have a brunch or tea. Nice and friendly service ❤️ You might feel a bit expansive...but it’s totally amazing food.

Very busy. Nice decor but very loud inside. Ordered a black tea and it took forever to come out. I didn't order food here. Not interested in their menu. It looks nicer than last year but I'm not sure about the new management. A waiter was busy chatting to 2 young kids for a few minutes whilst I waited at my table for service. Staff could be more attentive. Their tasting tea table sounds a bit pretentious. Especially the condition at the bottom that it's strictly 1 hour regardless of whether or not you drink the tea and how hard it is for the staff...Really?!?

We used to go to this cafe after the movies all the time. The food, staff, and prices were great. However, I suspect it's now under new management. Firstly, the waiter told me I shouldn't order my usual almond milk flat white because the almond milk they had wasn't good for coffee?! Then when we ordered the burger and asked for no cheese because I'm lactose intolerant he said; "We can't do that. It's a set menu." What the?! We ordered it anyway. When it came the burger was smaller than it used to be and there was only half the amount of chips it used to have too. Oh, and we scraped the cheese off. BTW, the burger used to be $18, now it's $22. Sadly, we won't be going back :(

Is this place under new management or what is the story? Staff were very unhelpful and had a lazy attitude. We ordered a strawberry milkshake, two pastries and two English breakfast teas. I asked for the pastries to be warmed up, they came out cold! The teas came out without milk, which is ridiculous! So we asked for milk which we had to wait 10minutes for. By this stage the teas were cold! Then the bill was a joke $41 something? An absolute disaster from start to finish. We will not be back!

The coffee was great, ambiance was nice, but the food was ok. Unfortunately the chocolate pancakes looked nicer than it tasted (it was hard, thick and almost rubbery - it had the texture like a cold crumpet), the salmon was cooked well but lacked a bit of seasoning and the skewers, well it cost $38 for only 2 skewers of meat (and dry unfortunately), and 2 skewers of veggies, which I thought was a bit expensive. I’d come back here for the coffee but unfortunately not the food.

Seems good in theory, but I was really disappointed with the inside out burger. Two meat patties on this burger and both were really over cooked and just tasted burnt.

Obviously, they’ve tried to mask this with their special sauce, which, yes, was tasty. But, the fact that the burnt flavour was still coming through says a lot about how bad it was. Such a shame.

Not a fan of the thick, crinkle cut style of chip. These come with the burger.
And for what you get, this meal is really overpriced.

Service isn’t great, either. Even though the restaurant was somewhat empty, there just wasn’t much service at all. Not that the staff were unfriendly, just not attentive.

Food is so good! Ordered the angus burger and upside-down burger with American loaded fries on the side. It was all so good and coffee was great too. We were so full after so didn't get the chance to try a dessert but will definitely be back!

Had croissant belini, inside out burger, and edible garden for brunch.
Croissant was just ok.
Inside out burger was so dry and tasteless with chips not even crispy but soft.
Edible garden dessert is what you should never order: only ground oreo with 2 pieces of waffle at the bottom, few raspberry/strawberry/blue berry. No cream or anything else beneath that.
Service was good but the food just way below average
We were quite hungry that time but the food still did not taste good

I was really eager to try the food here, I finally went but my expectations weren’t quite met. Although the food was nice, it was very overpriced. Overall, the service was great, the atmosphere was amazing, the food was good but the portions were small and very overpriced.
LP
Definitely instragram worthy and pricey but taste wise not wow factor but it was just meh. Order the unicorn cappuccino and Not So Benedict. Staff was really nice.

Nice atmosphere with plenty of natural light keeps this modern cafe bright & airy. Service was attentive but food was average, not a great value for the price though. 🤔

I was impressed by their Purple latte. The presentation was absolutely beautiful, loved the dark purple hue with lovely white latte art on top, two cute tiny purple flowers on the rim of the glass and dry purple flowers scattered on the saucer for decoration. It has a hint of taro taste & only a little sweetness. They also do Pink latte & Green latte, it would be a simple yet a beautiful sweet treat & a perfect coffee alternative. 😌

Very extensive breakfast and lunch menu available with some very interesting dishes. We ordered the panna cotta and matcha French toast. Presentation wise, they were beautiful and had so much detail. The panna cotta was good with the chocolate soil and other toppings. The matcha french toast was a bit of a let down, it did not have much matcha flavour and there was more toast than sauce. Overeall it was very dry and the dulce de leche overly sweet. The drinks were quite sweet, which was expected but the taro and rose latte tasted very artificial.

The place is good for hang out. I ordered dessert and it was overrated but the taste just so average. Shakes looks good in the picture but the taste it also just average. The shakes cost me like 17.9 dollar which is so expensive. I dont think so i will come here again

Creative and deliciously good looking food! Great waiting time and a lovely atmosphere. The serving sizes are very generous and the deep fried angus burger is crazy good. Must try! The one waiter is a little dead inside and there’s only one waitress who is happy to be there. Aside from that, definitely coming back!

[invite] Bianca: We get pretty excited when we come across local gems, we’ve been based in the Inner West for going on 15 years now and we’re constantly on the hunt for great new finds. Turns out the jokes on us. We had a great little spot under our noses for many years and didn’t even know.

We went to this cafe last week thinking it was the old owners as we hadn't been here for a few years and always previously enjoyed the food. Unfortunately there were new owners and this time around we were presented with a very over priced menu for breakfast food but thought we would give it a go anyway. We ordered the granola and a serving of smashed avocado on sourdough. We waiting ages for the order to arrive and when it did we noticed the smashed avocado wasn't fresh avo, it looked like it was out of the squeezie bottles you buy from the supermarket and it had a good glug of oil added to it. It was a greenie brown colour and looked very unappealing and because the oil had soaked through the bread it tasted awful. The granola meal looked like it was made for a child who lives in candyland as it had little colourful pellets that tasted like fruit loops but 100 times sweeter. The actual granola was waaaay too sweet too and only a tiny portion had been scattered on a huge looking plate. There was a tiny bottle of milk, maybe 50mls to use for the granola. I had two bites and left the rest as it was way too sickly sweet tasting and so ate the 2 slices of fresh orange and the slice of mango instead. I also forgot to mention that a fluro green coloured poached pear came with the granola and was so sweet it was off the charts. I'm not sure if they used food colouring to give it the fluro green colour but it didn't look appealling at all. Needless to say I will never be going back to this place again.

Went here for breakfast. We ordered the granola, with a side of Panna Cotta for an extra $2.50, and banana bread. Service was alright, but nothing special. The food was indeed very instagrammable, and it tasted nice, but unfortunately overpriced for what it is. The banana bread was much more expensive than other cafes and there was no special ‘instagrammable’ quality to it to justify the cost. Despite the huge plate for the granola, the reality is the serving size is poor compared to other restaurants, as the granola layer is spread very thinly, so while it appears to be a lot in the photo, there isn’t actually much - and for reference I don’t even have a large appetite! There is also little yoghurt provided - there is only a small blob in the centre! Perhaps other dishes would be more filling. A request for extra yoghurt was not accommodated. The extra Panna Cotta was disappointing - it was served in a small ramekin - again the portion was small - and it was lumpy! It was definitely not the smooth texture I would expect for Panna Cotta, and it was way too sweet I could not finish it. The poached pear was nice but too sweet for me. Overall the place has pretty food, but it’s not worth it for the price or portions. Also, the menu on the website is apparently very old - it’s outdated.

Avo Buns : 😁 Great
Granola : 😍 Amazing
Wedges : 😍 Amazing
Unicorn Cappuccino: 😁 Great
Service : 😊 Good

This place serves up some photogenic dishes that look amazing from every angle. The creativity in the dishes and the time and effort put into each dish and drink can be seen as it’s being served. The colours, the tastes and the textures of each dish have their own unique way of complimenting each other. This cafe honestly goes the extra mile. Legit even their wedges are next level. 110% coming back.

Average service but amazing food !! The granola
is a must have for brunch, it’s not too sweet or over powering. The avocado burger was absolutely delicious, super healthy and very fulfilling.
I suppose the only downside was that we ordered tea and didn’t end up getting it AND the cafe doesn’t allow any meal modifications, which makes it difficult if you have dietary requirements.
Just to note on the unicorn cappuccino, the toppings were delicious and appropriate if you have a sweet tooth, but it’s not really suitable for coffee lovers.
Picturesque Food
If you’re after some picturesque food to brighten up your Instagram post and make your followers green with envy, you need to pay a visit to Bello the Shelter. Amazing and gorgeous designs. The way they place everything together especially their desserts are spectacular.
However, when it came down to tasting their food, some was quite disappointing and bland. The salmon and avocado dish was really lacking flavour and needed some extra to it

Having just been to a Taiwanese breakfast a few doors down we were craving for some caffeine fix and cane across Bello. Wished we saw the food here first as they looked awesome! Very bright and cheery! I need to try the avocado burger next time (they used avocado halves instead of bread 😜) we only had the flat white and mocha and they were both good!

Location or ambience- good.
Food taste- good
Service politeness- just ok.
Food quality- BAD

Worth of money- NOT AT ALL

We ordered a Greek Souvlaki. Disappointed to see that the chips were hot but the main skewers were cold and undone.

We ordered a Vegalicious burger. The red bun in it was so chewy! My god, i wont dare to visit that place again.
The sweet potato chips were good though.

Everyone has giving poor reviews about it, the cafe still runs on people like me who accidently visited without reading the reviews.

Only good about the cafe is its location !
May be you should visit the place for just coffee.
Cool Beans Life
Bello the Shelter may seem like your ordinary Sydney brunch spot, located on the ground floor of Burwood Westfield but as you step in, you realise that it is world’s away!. As we walked to our table at the end, we realised that this was no ordinary brunch place. We saw candy, oreos, sprinkles and chocolate everywhere – we were living our our fantasy of visiting Willy Wonka’s factory. By the time we got to our table, we were ridiculously excited for the food!

Wow how rubbish can u get. I am so angry.... like unreasonably angry.

Who priced your menu????? It’s pathetically overpriced. And on top of that I got over-ripe food. Someone needs to shut you down..... let someone else do it who knows how to run a cafe.

Delicious and unique food! Definitely recommend trying out the Viral burger (burger with deep fried buns) and the Inside out burger (literally inside out burger with patties on the outside)! And finishing it off with the beautiful waffles 👌 The staff was very lovely and friendly and the homely ambience was nice, will be visiting again 😚
The RnB Diary
We came to Bello The Shelter in Burwood for lunch and owner and manager Tania greeted us during a busy service. The cafe is conveniently located by the ground floor Burwood Road entrance of Westfield, you won’t miss it from the high street. Despite being busy, Tania took time to show us to our table and explain the menu, the smile never leaving her face. Throughout our time there, Tania welcomed guests with enthusiasm, directed dishes to the right tables and answered enquiries from the staff. It was evident the team effectively handled the busy lunchtime under her leadership.

Newly renovated but not by an interior designer. You can just tell the tacky cheap fake plants, not the real looking good quality ones. Over cluttered walls and shelves with $2 shop decor. Silly gardening signs and a sign saying work more to make the dog happy or something along the lines of that... just cluttered cheap and not a nice overall style.
We ordered the mezze plate and a burger. The mezze plate description sounded good... beetroot hummus, pickles, bread, Sicilian Olivies etc. It came on a nicely presented board but what was offered was definitely not value for money. All up one round of pita bread cut in four, 3 slices of no seasoning over ripe tomato, 2 slices cucumber, 4 Sicilian olives, jarred pickles and the dips. Not worth the money, very disappointed. Not enough to be shared as an entree, scum on the bread. The season 1 beef burger was good though. Friend said the patty was cooked well, good sauces and nice chips. The menu is big, overwhelming and confusing. Should try and focus on a few less dishes and do them well. Won't be back in a hurry.
My family came to bello for the first time since it's makeover and was pleasantly surprised. The menu is refreshed and the presentation of the dishes is magnificent. I am sure some of their dishes will start popping up on Instagram soon. Service was courteous. I did notice it was pricier than what it use to be, however given the improvement with the menu I had no issue with it. Looking forward to returning!!!

Love At First Bite
Bello The Shelter has been around for a long time, serving up some great middle-eastern inspired food. It has started to really up their brunch game lately and we were went along one lazy Friday to try out give the place a go. We arrived at 11:30am so was in that awkward middle ground so had a bit of an identity crisis and ordered off both their breakfast and lunch menu.

✔️ This newly renovated cafe is thriving as it is certainly keeping up with the changing interests in cafes nowadays. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is amazing and the place was flooded with people which added to the great vibe. Their menu is one of the most appealing and unique menus I’ve seen yet still has something for everyone. For drinks we ordered a few coffees and I had to try the famous unicorn cappuccino because I love pretty food and drinks😂 It was certainly different to my usual double shot coffee but still delicious. For food we ordered a few dishes (the names are too fancy to remember) including a toastie, eggs Benedict smashed avo, hummos and avo, eggs and some bacon. I just have to say the presentation here is one of the best I’ve come across. Everything looked amazing. Honestly, every single dish was great and thoroughly enjoyed, which is quite rare when dining in larger groups. Very impressed with the high quality of food, presentation, service and atmosphere as a whole. So happy with their choice to change and upgrade, will definitely return 👍

❌ Our dishes were served together but some were bordering being cold (including mine) so some dishes must have been sitting for a while.

Food: 4/5
Presentation: 5/5
Service: 4/5
Location: 4/5

Too expensive. I went there in August with my colleagues. They charged orange juice for $8. I had seafood pasta but I didn't finish it because the food was oily and not well.
Previously they were ok until 2016. I don't know what's going on. I felt sorry to my colleagues because I was the person who insisted to have dinner.

Great service, amazing food, reasonable prices, good location, superb scenery, spectacular building and the best quality restaurant in Burwood right now. Bello the shelter is a must visit when you come to Burwood.

As you walk inside the westfield from the ground floor you'll notice this cafe/restaurant has been there all along! Only recently have they gained momentum in the ever growing list of foodiespots to visit!
I visited it for the first time since revamping their name and changing their image up, and the food is quite delicious 😋
••••
The prices here are on the expensive side for a cafe and for what you get!
The huge shakes are $18 each 😱 (Definitely for sharing!)
••••
I really enjoyed the breakfast board and that bean salsa it came with just brought the whole dish to another level 🤑
••••
The eye-catching Unicorn Cuppacino was on my list to try and it's a fun drink to order if you don't feel like your usual coffee. I quite enjoyed it and it was fun to eat 😊
••••
Their other desserts look amazing!! The flower pot and the french toast are my next to try!
I will have to return to taste again 😋

We visited bello the shelter on Friday night. We have been wanting to try the new menu for a few weeks now. There was a group of us so we decided we would order several dishes to share.
Wow.... was exactly my reaction when the food arrived at our table. The presentation of the dishes was amazing but the flavour combinations were absolutely outstanding.
We decided to try the steak, the barramundi, the souvlaki skewers, pork ribs and a salad. Firstly the steak was cooked to perfection and so tender and presented beautifully. The pork ribs (and I have tried many over the years) are by far the best ribs I have tried. The meat was falling off the bone, and the flavour of the basting was amazing. The portion of this dish was extremely generous. The barramundi with wild rice and tahini was cooked to perfection 👌. One of the best pieces of fish I have had. One of my favourite dishes of the night was the seven heaven salad. I fell in love with this dish. The ingredients in this salad work together so beautifully. Compliments to talented chef who created not only these dishes but this amazing, exciting and refreshing menu. Bello the shelter ... you have blown me away with your new menu.
The decor is trendy and vibrant, and the new menu is modern with such fresh and exciting flavour combinations.
The service by your staff was impeccable. So attentive, friendly and prompt.
What a fantastic job you have done with revamping not only your restaurant but also your menu. This is exactly what Burwood needed and we can't wait to come back next week and try more of your delicious menu with our family and friends. If I could rate you more than the 5 stars I would because you definitely deserve it! Keep up the great work 👍😊
