Review Chilli Jam Thai Express - Burwood

Freddy Trinkett
I love Chilli Jam! This express version isn't as good as the one in Parra because of the simplified menu. However, it's still really good for Food Court.

Good portion and affordable price

Pretty reasonable thai food in concord, I mean it's really tasty but it's pretty expensive as far as thai food is concerned and they're not going over and beyond to make the food stand out.

In short, good food, quick, but you'll pay a premium for not that much above a hole in the wall.

Unfortunately, although the flavours are lovely, the staff are disinterested and the protein portions stingy. We ordered a 'healthy shiitake mushroom stirfry', which the menu lists as having tofu. The dish arrived with no tofu at all. We sent it back to have tofu added, as per the menu. When the dish came back the cook had added, quite literally, 2 pieces. So although having no tofu in the dish the first time may have been an oversight, the second time it was deliberately stingy. We will not go back.

I love this place! I have visited so many times in the past. They renovated about 8 months ago and so I re-visited. The ambience and decor is great! Hands down, the best crispy pork 🐷 belly dish I have had! On every piece the skin is actually crispy, unlike other places that claim the same and the skin comes out soggy. The chicken satay sticks 🍢 were yummy 😋 one friend ordered a green curry 🍛 which I tried and it was so flavoursome! Another friend ordered the lamb shanks which I also tried and must say was divine, it fell apart and just melted in my mouth! This is my fail proof Thai spot! Will definitely be re-visiting 🤗

We ordered food for a pickup as have regularly done for years. Unfortunately on this occasion the quality of the food was atrocious.

We had ordered Green curry, Chilli jam stir fry and duck salad.
The food was barely close to half filled in the takeaway tupperware.
The vegetables were undercooked, the jasmin rice we ordered was cold to lukewarm. The duck salad which we had always loved was completely different in taste as the duck seemed old, the sauce was sour rather than sweet and the salad tasted stale.

I was quite shocked how horrible the food was. After calling them I found the menu and pricing 'changed' and management had changed.

It is a shame such a reputable franchise had fallen so far from grace.

First time eating in this area, and this place is along a nice strip with other restaurants. It’s pretty big inside with heaps of seating. Came here with BW’s church fam and ordered multiple dishes to share. Green curry w/ chicken-$16.90. Pad thai w/ chicken-$16.90. Chilli jam sauce: Famous Thai cuisine, roasted cashew nut, assorted vegetables, stir-fried in chilli jam w/ chicken -$16.90

A touch of elegance

Often when you go to Thai restaurants, you are forced to share a small table in a cramped and small establishment. Well look no further. This restaurant is very large and spacious and comfortable. So big you can give a western style engagement or wedding here. (Not that they do weddings or engagements here…. I’m just saying).

There was a group of 5 of us here and due to Easter, we were all lenting. The staff were so friendly and willing to change the menu or ingredients for us and we were thankful.

So why this Thai restaurant over others, well simply because:

Food – Very delicious and fresh. We ordered Curry Puffs, Spring Rolls, Chilli Basil Fried Rice, Pineapple Fried Rice, Pad See Ew. All of us enjoyed our meals. I would probably suggest that the Chilli Basil Fried Rice will need to be a bit more spicier. The presentation of the food was terrific and a great portion was served.

Establishment – This restaurant is comfortable to dine at. There is plenty of room, decent size seating and tables and due to its size; you don’t have to yell to speak to your companions. It has a great ambiance with low volume of music in the background again loud enough so that you can have a decent conversation with your peers.

Value – The dishes were in line with other Thai eateries.

What I would recommend to the restaurant:

Change the lounge seating to chairs as it is easier to sit on and be comfortable

Make the chilli basil fried rice a bit more chilli

Have one or two more vegetarian entrée meals.

Follow my Instagram on a_guide_for_your_appetite for more photos!!!

Unfriendly service from waitresses. I went with a friend for Valentines Day - we arrived early to be seated. During this time it was also the staff dinner. Our waitress was not accustomed with English, and we were made to feel quite unwelcome. The food was average, and the prawn cakes on the menu were not available, apparently not in stock. As the place got busy, every other table was given a complimentary Thai sweet for Valentines except us. It was a disappointing and unpleasant experience

Thai has been one of my favourite food since I have moved out of India. Two reasons - quick to prepare and tastes delicious. Chilli jam has become one of the best Thai place so far. The food was scrumptious especially their pad Thai and stir fries. Highly recommended place!
Value for Money - 4/5
Taste - 4.5/5
Ambience - 4/5
Service - 4/5

It had been about 3 years since I last came here and I have to say the place does not disappoint. Ambiance is great and the food is truly spectacular. We had the prawn cakes as entries... outstanding!! Full of prawn & flavor. My main, the seafood hot pot was just perfect with steam rice... bought my own wine in. A def place to go again & again

We've been coming to Chilli Jam since it opened, 10 years ago. Every meal is highly anticipated and each time we are rewarded with delicious flavours and fragrances. The decor is funky and there are even hints from the Chinese restaurant that used to be in this location. That said, the seating is uncomfortable (heavy and low wooden chairs, albeit with plenty of cushions) and can be awkward at times. Service is always warm and friendly, even on busy nights. Highly recommended.

We came here for dinner for a birthday. Delicious meals, prompt service and great vibe 👍🏼 cocktails well priced, would definitely recommend

My go-to safe place for Thai in Concord. I have been going here since high school and bringing a different friend each time, it has never failed me & my company in leaving the premises with a happy stomach.

I often always order one of 4 items at a Thai eatery & this time I opted for my favourite Thai Beef Salad whilst my friend ordered spring rolls as we were still full from lunch.

The beef was a little tougher than what I'm used to and it had a unique spring of shrimp flavour that was very interesting.

Spring rolls were HOT. They weren't bad.

Re-edit:
Pad See We was skittle overly cooked but I loved the Smokey texture it came with. Definitely would get it again.
Fried rice was decent and flavoursome.

Great ambience, don't ever feel intruded here.
I think Chilli Jam in Parramatta is amazing, one of my favourite thai places.

This place not so much. Still enjoyed it but doesn't have the flavour explosion I experience in my mouth with the Parramatta branch

It was a busy Friday night and food did take a while to come out

What I found funny was this overly long plate to hold the satay sticks on it. Hilarious! Look at my photos. There is so much space on that plate

The noodles came out in a bowl smaller than expected while others come out in big plates but it doesn't mean portions are big

Presentation with the food is excellent,it makes it look appetising

The food itself though a little disappointing
Some of it was a little more salty than expected. I was expecting more taste from the massaman lamb, same with the duck curry

Don't get me wrong the food is still good but I had a choice I would goto Parramatta branch

The food here was awesome! The interior is very nice with candles and large bench chairs with big cushions to sit on. The sauces are all delicious; you'll want to keep licking the sauces off your cutlery. I would recommend the barramundi, as that was my favourite dish of the night.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
One of the more premium priced Thai restaurants in the area but the food is always spot on. Great flavours, impeccable service and a nicely appointed dining space always makes for a great dining experience.

On this occasion, we popped in for a quick snack of Ka Nom Jee, prawn and chicken dumplings served with a chilli and sweet soy dipping sauce. Delicious!

very well laid out restaurant and dining experience, fresh Thai ingredients and flavours, awesome cocktails and very friendly staff, keep it up guys!

Chilli Jam is my favourite local Thai restaurant. They are always so consistent with their dishes. It is a very popular restaurant, always being the busier one out of the lot.

I've never had a bad dish here and it's hard to choose the best ones. I definitely recommend the curries though, my favourite is probably the yellow curry. The papaya salads are full of flavour and made perfectly. I had the deep fried whole barramundi and that was great.

Definitely a local gem and a place to go with any sized group. If I'm not able to eat in, I love to get delivery!

Absolute art of the massamum curry. No other massamum curry can win this one! This is a must try. I hope they give some more though the plate is too small with too little food.. The staff are friendly too.

Complete garbage.. Looks like they have changed management. Overpriced dishes and super small servings. We ordered a green curry and apparently it doesnt come with rice? Didnt know thai people drink their piping hot spicy curries. So when you order rice for the curry they charge per head? At the end of the night we had to pay $26 for a 4 people just on rice??? What the hell. Said it was outrageous... And they just cancelled it. Not going back again. If they try pull this kind of food/pricing/service in asia, they will close down in 2 months. What a joke.

Great atmosphere and semi-sophisticated look. Food is great, some meals a little privet but good flavour. I'm always a fan of the Chilli Jam restaurants

Good customer service is an integral part of a good restaurant. While the food was not bad, service was horrible. We waited over 50 minutes for our food and they got our order wrong. We asked for an update after waiting for 40 minutes and the staff never got back to us. We asked another staff to check on our order and she said our order is in the queue. Not coming back again.

When it comes to fine dining Thai is certainly a preferred cuisine. Our friends suggested this place to us. The food was delicious. All items we ordered in the Entrée as well as mains were very good. Special mention for Spring Roll, Satay and the Thai Green curry.
The service was very prompt.
The interiors were average. But a worthwhile place for good food.

First time we went to Chilli Jam Concord we went with friends and enjoyed a lovely meal. Second time we went by ourselves and it was not pleasant as they forgot our order, yet we ordered food that could be easily prepared. We arrived and took 10 minutes to decide on food, the table next to us arrived a few minutes after us, they immediately ordered and their food was served within 15 minutes. A table two tables away from us was a party of 10, they arrived well after we ordered our food yet were served well before us. The other table next to us arrived at least 1/2 an hour after we ordered our food yet their food arrived at the same time as ours. My partner was livid when the table with 10 people were served before us. When our food did finally arrive my partner complained it could be made better at a food court. My Massamun curry was obviously rushed as it looked almost nothing like the picture in the online menu plus the singular potatoe was full of eyes. A very poor execution which was only helped not getting a really bad review due to the 25% discount on the bill.

Sah wah dee kah 💁 Concord has many Thai restaurants but I reckon Chilli Jam is the best in the area.

First of all, the premises is very spacious and the interior is very beautiful which gives it that feeling you're in Thailand! Staff were also very friendly and attentive.

Most importantly, the food was amazing too. I recommend you give the pineapple fried rice a try which is amazing in both taste and presentation!

They are really good. The food is reliable. Good Thai food. Nice service. Great takeaway or easy access. Many suppers from this restaurant.

Servers really do not make an effort and food is mediocre. Long waits even though only 3 tables had people, and prawn cake omitted from mixed platter. Upon inquiry though, they gave a clear explanation why. "They weren't ready".

Chilli Jam is by far my favourite Thai restaurant in Sydney. I've been coming here for years and the food is great. Generous portions, great flavours and attentive service (except on busy nights when the wait staff are run off their feet!)

Make sure to try the taro puffs if it's the only thing you do. Served with sweet chilli sauce, they are out of this world amazing and many of my friends are now hooked onto them.

Had my birthday here a few months ago too, and everything was taken care of very well.

Can't wait to be back!

Not generous and food was so dry with almost no sauce in a plate! Thai is all about sauces .
Ordered satay skewers as an entre and were presented along with a tiny bit of satay sauce on the side, which was not even enough to be added to one skewer and then when ordered more sauce they asked this will be of an extra charge.

Was recommended this place by a friend who said it was her favourite Thai restaurant in Sydney. Helpful staff with an authentic, moody vibe. Food was decent, but mostly unaspiring. The Pineapple Fried Rice's presentation was unique, but flavours were rather muted. The Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab is good, and the food generally seemed to have a 'clean', no-MSG mouthfeel to it. Personally prefer Chat Thai or Khao Pla.

Ive been here many times and it ranks among the best thai food in Sydney. Its BYO and the people are very friendly. There wouldnt e mire than one ordering mistake in going every week for a year.

I will def come back to this place. Great food and cocktails!!

Chilli Jam rarely disappoints. It doesn’t offer the most modern or innovative Thai dishes, but it’s still a great place to go grab a bite: relatively inexpensive, with a decent menu, and a relaxed environment suitable for a family dinner, a quiet night out with friends or a loved one. Don’t expect to get great service here though. This week, The Boyfriend and I went to the Gladesville restaurant, and it took a while for someone to come greet us at the door, and even longer to take our order, bring our food out, and bring the bill at the end of our meal. I even overheard the father of a family of four (seated right behind us) complaining that they’d waited an hour for their meal, and demanding to know why other customers – who had arrived or ordered later – had been served first? This was quite surprising because it was a Tuesday night, and the place was far from busy. Mixed entree (four pieces) – $8.90 We started off with the mixed entree,

To be honest, I don't know if it tasted better because of the fact it was served in a pineapple. I always fall for those types of presentations so I never really know! The pad thai was so good we ended up ordering a second plate, everyone wanted more. Everyone wanted more!!

Ordering take-out from Chilli Jam, Concord is always a treat :) It’s even better when your food gets delivered straight to your doorstep on a cold and rainy night! I made my online order through Eat Now and it was so easy to order from. Once the payment was processed (they accept Visa, Mastercard, Paypal and AMEX - woohoo!) , I was sent an email and text as confirmation. FYI, ‘ASAP Delivery’ takes roughly 45min-1hour from time of ordering but that’s quite decent considering it would take half that time to cook the food! Just thought I would add that in because some of the reviews on Eat Now commented on the time of delivery. Even though it was pouring rain outside, my order was dry and still very warm. Arrived in just under 45min ^^ Seafood Curry Pot - Freshly grilled king prawn, black mussel, squid, fish fillet, cooked in curry paste, egg, coconut milk $23.90 Generous serving packed with an abundance of seafood and they don’t skimp

Very bad service. Took 2.5 hours for food to be delivered. No excuse and port service

Consistently good food. Shop is large, and spacious. outdoor tables are very small and uneven but the interior decor is impressive. Big seats and big comfortable cushions fill the centre while pillow filled benches line the sides. Staff seem generally unhappy or rude, both on the phone and in store. Food is quite consistent and most of the menu is delicious. The BBQ pork and sticky rice dish does not use good pork and the portion size is small, which is disappointing. The whole street food menu is great. The Pad Thai which comes in a generous serving is a thicker noodle and a little sweeter than I'm used to. Massaman curry is great with very tender beef that falls apart, and cashews compliment it better than the more commonly used peanuts. Most things on this menu are winners and the prices of the mains are reasonable. Make a reservation for weekends because this place gets crowded. Venue is very accommodating of large groups. Bring a group of friends for some good food and a good time.

Very Good Thai. One of my favorite Thai restaurant. Try pineapple fried rice and BBQ chicken salad. Yum!!
Fresh and tasty Thai.
I Can't Eat Enough
Whenever I go to a new Thai restaurant this is the place I compare it to. Quality food with amazing flavours. A step above the rest.
MMmmmm
Great food, generous servings and friendly staff! I've been a couple of times for lunch and wasn't disappointed.

Okay. Be sure to make a booking on the busy nights. Decor is fine, food portions are okay for mid prices.
Mike
Did not even touch the sides. I ordered the main which consisted of 2 cutlets and shaving of salad it looked like a kids meal very disappointed
Littlenuggets
No balance. Ate here for the first time a few nights ago after reading some good reviews and was disappointed. Service was slow and staff seemed more interested in eating their own dinner than taking our order (despite service having already started). The food was so sweet that it was unpalatable and we left all our dishes unfinished. We will not be back.
Dave
Great food but not enough wait staff. The poor staff that were working were completely flat out but still it was difficult to order food and drinks. I'd recommend for takeaway I think.
Buffet Summers
I love this restaurant and love everything I've ever eaten there. I've been going fortnightly for about 2 years. The spring rolls are amazing!
Missfoodie
Yum! I always ask for extra veggies and this is the only place that follows through with my request. Good food nice atmosphere.
Geoff
On a busy night it can get quite noisy inside. Food & service can't be faulted. Best Thai in town!
Ehmbee
Diverse tastes right in the middle of a number of good Italian restaurants. Menu has all of the standard Thai fare that you would expect, but it was the street food menu that I really loved.
Vanessa
Always delivers quality food with quality service. Wonderful ambience and lovely decor.

The restaurant itself is fantastic. Great place, wonderful atmosphere, there's even outdoor seating for those willing to brave the cold!
