Review The Gem Restaurant - Burwood

Tania Andrews
Operates Tuesday - Sunday. Located along Burwood road across the road from the Burwood park. Street parking is available. Indoor dining, spacious establishment. We dined in upstairs as a group with 5 kids under 5 years old. Have to rate this as the best large group experience I’ve ever had. When kids got restless staff put together a kids table. Team provided every inch of attention to us. This Grade A service was only matched by the delicious meals and generous servings. Serves Halal. Take away available. Casual Malaysian & Chinese dinning. Reasonably priced.

Chinese Fine Dining... Great Restraunt! The menu is priced higher than your average Chinese restraunt, however your paying for HIGH QUALITY FOOD! The customer service is great! And the team at "The Gem" strive to ensure that their service is simply the best! The restraunt is very well maintained, spacious and clean. Parking is very easy to find depending on the time and day that you are make your booking. I came here for Iftar on a Sunday, which was very quiet and not crowded... at $45.00 per head the food came right on time! Would definitely recommend this restraunt. If you like cheap food at a low price then look else where!

Staff are friendly and nice service. Food was very nice. We had satay hot pot and ice kacang, so yummy. Prices are a bit steep but it’s fine dining and quality food and decor. Close to home so I’m happy.

Second time dining here. Food is consistent. Good flavours and quality ingredients. Table services is good as there is always someone available to attend. They have lazy Susan's for the big groups and plenty of tables upstairs and downstairs. The only thing is that this place is expensive.

There aren't many halal Chinese restaurants so it's always a rare find when the place is also good. The food here is simply exquisite, priced well with friendly staff to go along. The restaurant is very nice, a perfect place for family dinners, business dinners or even to take friends. Have not tried a bad dish yet. Would definitely recommend to those who love Chinese as it's one of the best around!

A very disappointing experience for my family and I, we were served food that was cold and after complaining about the temperature of the food it was taken back to the kitchen only to be resent again cold. Mongolian lamb should be served hot not cold and fried rice I would expect to be also hot but unfortunately it was not. When I discussed this with the manager he told me the food was hot as though he ate the food and not me the customer. I understand your restaurant was quiet but no need to drop your standards in food as your food is quiet expensive so I would expect good service, sorry very disappointing experience for my family and I. As a manager you should listen to the people that actually ate your food.

I drove past this place every day for the past 4 years but never noticed it. A friend mentioned it a couple of weeks ago and I have since had lunch here 5 times. Food is of superior quality. Place is clean. Atmosphere is quiet. They charge a slight premium over similar restaurants but the extra few dollars a dish is well worth it. They are unlicensed, but allow BYO.

Will never be back! This review is actually quite delayed as hubby and I dined here last year, but it definitely was a massive fail. We ordered the Wonton soup and Duck Pancake for entree. Wonton soup was so bland it literally tastes like I was drinking water flavoured soup. Duck inside the pancakes was completely cold and ridiculously dry... literally like they had recooked us someone's leftovers. We ordered Mongolian lamb for the main and that was ok... but no where near as flavorsome as when we have tried it else where... Ordered coke to drink- that was nice. $100 for our meal and we walked away actually laughing at how bad it was and vowed never to go back. We will stick to our usual chinese place thanks.

Love coming here with my mates for some yum yum foods that we definitely can't make at home ;)

Fave dishes:

That spicy fragrant crab with Szechuan peppercorn when we're feelin fancy lols

Salted egg yolk GOLDEN PRAWN!!

Pineapple fried rice cos it's hella delish and served in an actual hollowed out pineapple

Laksa noodle for that coconutty richness - great for the friend who likes to eat spicy but can't handle much lols

Fried ice cream. obvs

Nice and comfy-quiet. We were sat across the room once from a LArge table - some sort of family celebration? but the noise didn't carry over
