Review George's Cafe Restaurant - Burwood

One word to describe this place 'Ok'. It just looks super hyped from the outside but at the end of my meal, i found out that it was overrated. Presentation : Very good Service : Ok Food : Ok Portion : Very good Taste : lacks flavor Price : not worth it My first impression was really good. It looks like a well managed place and when the food came out, the presentation was very good. It was appealing. But after my first bite, the food lacks in flavor. Everything was just so plain and dull. I ordered a chicken mushroom where they put there pieces of plain chicken breast on top of chips and cover it with mushroom sauce. That looks very good for presetation but who likes shoggy chips? The salad was just ok. It had a lots of mix lettuce, half a cherry tomato, few dices of onion and even fewer cucumber. Again, the presentation looked appealing but... The chicken burger we ordered was a big disaster. It had the same tasteless chicken breast, some mix lettuce, a slice of tomato and some sauce. I respect effort made to make the food but this is not really worth the price. The prawn and calamari we got were fine. Service was not so good either. They did not really care about us and even if you called them a couple of times for table water, we were served ten minutes later after we had nearly completed our food. At the end of our meal, we thought, we should not have driven past some better restartants to this one. Overall, it is just a average restaurant. Nothing great about this place. I do not mind paying the good money for good food and service but this is not worth it. I strongly recommend to at least marinate the chicken and add some flavor to it. Further, the seats were a bit damaged and dirty. Also if the service would be a bit better, then it would be great. After all, all it takes it a sweet smile and few polite words.

halal certified restaurant for your meaty lusts. nice ambience and the food comes in humongous portions! so be aware of what you order or u might just need to ask them for plastic container to bring home the unfinished food. I ordered the ribs which was enough for 2-3 pax. could have been spicier. my wife ordered the steak which was good but the sauce has a strong soy sauce taste..

Will definitely be one of my most suggested beef ribs chow in town. service is good and fast. The seats are worth replacing though but despite that it is really worth the money spent. awesome place to hangout and dine. come early to avoid waiting.

A super chill place to go whether you want Shisha or food, got the lasagne and it was really nice and homemade as it says in the menu, the service was super friendly and quick, got the Shisha within a minute of ordering and it was really good quality. The prices were a bit high but the portions are massive! Highly recommend this place for Shisha or food

Very good food and service. Defiantly family atmosphere and it's very close to the cinemas so it would be perfect to eat and watch a movie. I had the barrumdie cleopatra which had a nice sauce and perfectly cooked prawns. I also had the strawberry sundae which took me back to my childhood.

The last time I had been to George’s Cafe it was just for dessert after the movies. Today we got to have lunch there. I chose the chicken parmigiana with chips and salad (pictured). The serve was generous to say the least. Enough for two people. I loved that it was made with eggplant and the fries were crispy and not oily. I tried my friend’s salmon (pictured) and it was perfectly cooked. The food is in the style of hearty pub food but you are not eating in a pub! #georgescafe

What I enjoy about George’s Cafe the most is they make sure what you eat is worth the value. They have big sizing in comparison to many other restaurants and it’s also quite cheap! I usually go for the risotto for much of my visits and it’s so delicious and big!

Great location and plenty of seating. Excellent service and fresh quality food. Restaurant is sound proof and air conditioned. Very comfortable. Chicken pesto risotto is amazing!

we have always heard great reviews about this place but our visit was a little unfortunate.. we went on a weekend night and could blame the rushy hour for not so perfect food.<br/>Beef burger was ordered well done but then had to be sent back for further cooking, The chicken steak was a disappointment as the chicken breast seemed boiled n chewy instead of freshly grilled. <br/>Still I would definitely visit once again though, because its a famous halal chain n i would like to think it might be one bad day. i wouldn’t like to make up my mind with just one visit...<br/>

I went in for having a coffee but the guy there was so rude no hi or how are you? Just what do you want? Ridiculously rude he was! I don’t recommend that place at all! The coffee I had was pretty average too.

The food is amazing and I love everything. The quantity is huge, especially the mains. Book in advanced if you want to have a Sheesha. Highly recommended.

We alway walk past the place when going to Westfield Burwood and we took a day to try out the food. <br/>Portions are very large with generous fries on each dishes. <br/>We had the lamb, beef, chicken and calamari well basically we just want to try everything on the menu. <br/>Beef is not too overcooked and lamb is not smelly at all and the chicken is crispy with each bites. <br/>Place is clean but it can be a bit hot sitting inside as the air-cons is not really cold enough. <br/>Service is fast, maybe it’s just less than 4 tables to serve and the waiter is very friendly and helpful. <br/>It is always busy especially during the weekend and a bit noisy too. Best to go during the weekday after work for a nice and comfortable dinner with a few beers with mates.

Always has the biggest serving sizes! Would definitely recommend if you're feeling hungry. Good food and good service. You really cant go wrong here.

Been here several times. Servings are massive! Tastes are consistent. Food presentation might needs a bit improvement. Floor service was okay, depends on the staff working. Some of them are really friendly, but some of them are uninterested with customer (honestly) and act as if they're talking to a wall. Food doesnt take long to come out even on busy days. Surely will still keep coming back :)

However, expect long waiting times on food... have been here a handful of times and have waited 15-20 mins for food each time. Food is good, esp. pastas and dessert menu.

A-ma-zing food!!! The only downside was that there was only one waiter working on floor and so service was horrible. But the FOOD though! Delicious!

Stumbling across this cafe by accident definitely saved the day! The food was full of flavour with generous servings. The nacho is a must have along with the mushroom risotto. However the biggest letdowns on my list is the VERY POOR SERVICE bringing down the overall experience.

A very disappointing experience, we ordered the chicken mushroom with fries.<br/><br/>We had to ask about 4 times for table water and it took more than half an hour for the food to arrive, although it wasn't busy at all. I wonder how they manage when it is actually busy. <br/>We also found a hair in the food. They replaced the plate of food.<br/><br/>Service was shocking they got the order wrong twice. When we got the bill they had charged us for the same thing twice, lucky I checked. <br/>The cafe is very outdated needs a massive renovation, the chairs have rips and the tables are chipped.<br/>I will never return to this cafe!

George's Cafe, the very few places that open during Christmas, NYE, and almost every public holiday in Burwood neighbourhood. Nice food. Huge serving. I used to come here very often with my girlfriend since this is her favourite spot. But there was one time during my birthday party, we were politely told to "hurry and leave" as soon as we finished our meal. Didn't have a chance to cut my birthday cake or even chill with my friends. Very disappointing!

I have been coming to this cafe since 2013 and always ordered the eye fillet steak. It is to die for - end of story. I must admit they have got my order once ever by bringing me a rump steak and I was a bit annoyed when the waitress said that I had ordered rump. My reply was that I had been to this cafe about six times and only ever ordered the same dish! A replacement arrived and all was forgiven. Seriously, its that good that I don't want to risk ordering something else and wishing I hadn't. My dining companions have no complaints either. The chips and salad are also fabulous as are the sauces and I like the presentation. <br/>Apart from the above experience I have never had a problem here service wise or anything else. <br/>It's a shame Burwood Road is so run down and ugly as this place is a gem.

I've been here twice. First time I had hair in my food. I didn't write anything thought of it as a one off. Second time I ordered a dish with allergy requirements. Completely ignored TWICE. Had a wonderful evening with friends here. The wait staff were friendly and welcoming. For starters ordered the Sizzling prawns which came along with Garlic bread. 1/4th of the pot was covered in Oil, so din't really enjoy having it. For mains, ordered Tortellini mushroom pasta with Chicken Schnitzel on the side. While my friends ordered Risotto and Chicken with Mushroom sauce, mashed potato and veggies. The portion sizes of the mains were larger for one. So it would be advisable to share. Or else would definitely waste the rest of the food. To end the evening, we ordered Sydney Mud cake and Hazelnut mousse as desserts, which came along with cream and vanilla ice-cream. Both were yummm. Mud cake was moist and served with warm fudge. Mousse was tasty and creamy. <br/>Was a bit surprised to see get charged .50 cents for warm water one of my mate's ordered.

One of the overly priced restaurant I have been in whole Sydney, not value for money at all. Food was of not good taste plus meal size was very less compared to what you pay for it. Chips served with burger was not even to standards of frozen ones at super market. Disappointed

Shocking customer service. They stuffed the order up and just forgot things like the drinks and sauces. The food was probably a 4/10. The owner really needs to pull their socks up.

What a great little place for fantastic food. <br/>If you intend to eat a main meal here - 'bring your appetite" you will need it. Large servings of great food is an understatement.<br/>I had the Chicken omelet, and it covered the dinner plate, and at a guess it had at least a 1/4 breast of real "FRESH" chicken. My girl friend had the schnitzel sandwich, and it was so large she bought 1/2 home for my lunch the next day. Great place to eat, the cakes look fantastic, we just had no room - maybe next time.

Came here for dessert after dinner on Christmas day. We had the Sydney Mud, Tiramisu and Pineapple Gelato. The Tiramisu definitely stood out from all desserts. It's delicious but not too rich. Sydney Mud is very moist but a bit too rich for my liking. Coffee was good.

It was my first time eating at this place and it wasn't a very pleasant experience. My friends and I waited for 15-20 min for our food to arrive and when my order came, the waitress got my order wrong and we had to wait for another 15 minutes. We were not given enough cutlery as well and the omelette was quite a disappointment. quite a bad experience here.. don't think I'll come back here again.

If you’re hungry you need to go to George’s! The plates of food they serve up are huge and bound to satisfy even the biggest of eaters. I remember being equally impressed and struggling to finish off my veal dish of some sort a year ago, but somehow managing to also fit in one of their incredibly sounding desserts. Serious food coma right there.<br/><br/>Went back as I was after a hearty feed, and was not disappointed one bit. Opting for the vegetarian burger, when it came out not only did the sheer size of it impress me, but they also didn’t hold back on the chips and salad.<br/><br/>Yes the burger was quite difficult and messy to eat, but it was very tasty and up there with one of the best veggie burgers I have tried. Not so much a vegie pattie, but made up of different vegetables such as eggplant and mushrooms. The salad was fresh but I didn’t enjoy the dressing on top, and there was so much of it too! Chips were great (ask for free tomato sauce!) and a lot to get through, but I made it in the end YAY! Apparently the beef burger was just average. We were way too full to get dessert this time, but I do think they are also worth getting.

I would occasionally dine here during my high school years. Every time I received my order, I noticed the food portions were larger than average and that's what kept me returning. Haven't been here for a while, though they continue to be in service, they must be doing something right. A cudos for them to serve Halal certified meals for Muslims in the area, saving them from travelling further out west so if you're after bacon or pork, best to head to neighbouring cafes.<br/>I do recall most of their desserts were factory bought though hopefully when they revamp the cafe in the future, they could also introduce some new menu items as I believe it's been the same for a few years. Favourites menu items will always be favourites but I'm a little more health conscious now. I do recommend their BBQ Octopus salad (wow). Beautifully seasoned with fresh salad. It couldn't get any better :)

The place is in desperate need of renovation. The thing that jumped out at me first was how dirty the tables were. They were covered in a layer of greasy residue and i told them to wipe it again, still greasy after, i think they were spraying ajax spray and wipe right onto a cloth and wiping tables with it. It really leaves a bad impression when you begin to question the hygiene of a restaurant. Food was alright but a bit pricy, the barramundi fillet should have had crispy skin instead it looked like the work of some microwave meal.

Had dinner here on Saturday night with my family. We had the mixed seafood and mixed meat plate. This dish consisted of: mussells, calamari, fries, perch fillet, prawns and steak. All of the items above were cooked well and tasted delicious. The place is obviously very popular by the number of people who frequent this joint every hour. This place was packed the whole time. The staff were friendly and provided great customer service. Our food arrived within 30 minutes, despite the busy atmosphere of the cafe. Overall, I highly recommend everyone to try this place.

One factor that makes me never want to come back to a restaurant is slow service. Almost 50 minutes for a simple Chicken mushroom dish and I was the only customer at that current time. However, this is still not a bad rating, considering the 4/5 rate. The food made up for the whole delay as it was a massive portion for an inexpensive menu. The fat chips and mushroom sauce were on point.

Had new york steak and french toast. French toast was not bad but steak was quite ordinary. Perhaps reading previous post has set my expectation high that's why. Staff serving us was quite friendly though, he even asked for our feedback on the food.

Great food!! Everytime very consistent and friendly service. Best steaks too! Lots of variety on menu too! Recommended and will be going back.

Food:<br/>We had six people ordering six mains. All of the mains were awful. I had the eye-fillet steak and it was slightly overcooked. My chips were soggy and the salad had a salty and unpleasant dressing. One of my friends ordered a carbonara which was drenched in oil, and the chicken parmigiana was salty.<br/><br/>Service:<br/>One of my friends ordered a veal parmigiana. She had asked the waitress if the veal was tender and the waitress had replied that it was. She responded with 'great, I'll order that'. When our food arrived (the wait was rather long), my friend realised that it was chicken. She asked the waitress to come over and asked if her dish was chicken, to which the waitress responded rudely with 'Yes. Doesn't it taste like chicken?'. She then told her than she ordered a veal parmigiana. The waitress walked away and the supervisor/manager/another waiter came over and asked her what the issue was. He then responded that my friend did in fact order the chicken schnitzel and that SHE had made the MISTAKE. She responded that she did not make the mistake because she had specifically asked for the veal and she had asked about its tenderness.<br/><br/>Overall, a bad experience. We waited over 10 minutes for them to take our bill. It is quite perplexing why a place that always looked so busy serve such poor quality food, with poor service.

This is my second time here at George's cafe. The food here is always consistent and high standard. One of my favourite dishes is the New York Steak. Between myself and my boyfriend, we've tried many items on the menu and we'd have to say nothing ever disappoints. The servings are huge.. and the prices are very reasonable. Even the customer service is really good. I will definitely come back again!<br/><br/>

Decent typical food. A little pricey for what you get on quality. However big portions, but doesn't taste fantastic so couldn't really finish it.

If you’re a fan of huge portion sizes, then George’s Cafe in Burwood is the place to go. If you ever order their omelette, you’ll know what we mean (they probably use at least a dozen eggs in that gigantic omelette). Their wide range of pastas make it a great choice for anyone in the mood for Italian. When we arrived, our table and the seats were rather dirty though which is a bit of a turn off but besides that, service was really fast. Best to make a booking which can be done online.

Well, out of the two salads, only the Caesar salad came. But "in case we didn't have enough food"? Their portions were very generous and the food was delicious, too. My dish came with super tender lamb chops, chicken breast, beef fillet, a beef sausage (a bit salty), fried egg, lettuce and a bunch of other veggies on a big, big bed of chips.

There's always a thing that keeps you running back for more and for me George's Cafe does just that. I've been coming here for some time now and I personally have not been disappointed. I mainly come here with my partner and friends for their steaks and ribs. The size of their servings is always an excellent conversation starter.  RIB EYE STEAK WITH MASH & GARDEN SALAD The steak dishes are always good here, with my personal preference being the rib eye. The steak was cooked as per order, which is always a pressure point when ordering steak. The meat was great after you scrape all the sauce off which is when I learnt to order the sauce on the side at this place. The salad which has a mayonnaise dressing which isn't overpowering and becomes a fresh addition to the steak. The mash was creamy and smooth which doesn't take away from the steak but once again, I would order that it all be served separately on the plate in order to appreciate all the individual flavours. George's Cafe in Burwood is a nice, western cafe located along the street outside Burwood Westfield, with heavy traffic and people flow during lunch time and especially during dinner hours! Inside the cafe, the room is very dark with slow music playing. Seats are well spaced apart so it didn't feel cramped. After a look at their menu, I was still undecided! The variety was huge! The venue was average, a nice cafe with mixture of chairs and booths. The service that day was pretty bad however, only 1 waiter was working, with about 5-10 tables to manage. I felt sorry for her, but also for my grumbling tummy. My fault for not having a proper breakfast I guess. The food was average priced, $15-25 range, with the main cuisine being Italian. We ordered 2 pastas, a risotto and chicken with sides of salad and chips. Dear George,<br/>I'm breaking up with you. It's not me. It's you. And unfortunately all good things must come to an end just like Nelly Furtado's singing career ( I didn't just say that). I used to remembered you fondly despite our long distance relationship because you always held a special place in my heart just like how I remember my childhood friends. But George you disappointed me and those around me. What happened to you?

The food was less than average, generous servings but the penne was under-cooked. No true flavour all I could taste was cream. I actually felt quite sick half way through, the portion was tremendous that we had to ask for boxes to take home. Guess... value for money? Oh not to forget, their cleanliness is also questionable. Our metal water jug had some baby-food equivalent mesh stuck on the inner rim of the mouth. Won't be going there again.

Best Steak Ever. I come to this restaurant all the time, i always order Eye Fillet Steak, it melts in your mouth and only $30. Have recommended this place to multiple people and they have all enjoyed just as much as i have. Service is great, staff are always friendly and very helpful.

I've been coming to Georges for over 6 years and have never had an issue with the service. Prices have become ridiculously high however and the portions are enormous. Having said that I like how reliable it is for a late night coffee which is the cheapest thing on the menu.

Enjoyable :). Have been here several times for both lunch and dinner.<br/><br/>PROS: Food portions are huge! Mains should be shared between at least 2-3 people, they appear pricey on the menu, but once you see the portion it is understandable. Food tastes exceptional, always steaming hot on arrival and beautifully presented. Menu is very extensive. Environment is quiet and seats and tables are comfortable.<br/><br/>CONS: Service is just average, staff are not very attentive. Food have taken more than 30mins to arrive each time I've been here, and require frequent reminding to staff. <br/><br/>Overall, beautiful food here, although the slow service could be frustrating.

My 4 friends and I (5 altogether duh!) visited George's Cafe for the first time ever and we have nothing but great things to say about it. First of all, the food is out of this world!! We ordered the Chicken breast with the mushroom cream sauce (my mouth is watering), the calamari rings and the T-bone steak - all came with chips and salad. As you can already tell we only ordered 3 things from the mains menu because the portion sizes are just so damn big! We all shared the food amongst 5 starving people and despite the sharing we STILL had food left. The price you pay ($26-$30) is worth the amount you get on your plate and also customer service is great. The place has good vibes and I enjoyed my first visit to this almost restaurant like cafe. Definitely will be going back soon. 5 stars!

Worst food on burwood road. Food was cold, asked for it to be heated three times - came back cold every time. Ordered a chicken risotto - looked and tasted like soup. Really disappointing.

Not impressed. Staff were too laid back calling me 'bro and cuz' which wasn't very professional nor impressive, sauce was off and then when I paid for my meal the guy behind the counter did not say a word, only 'cheque, credit or savings' after he simply just place the bill on the counter.

Used to be good. Very, very sad. George's Cafe used to be my all time favourite cafe. Now it is badly in need of a renovation, unfriendly waiters, bad service, awful food.

Very creamy!. The serving is massive, usually shared - or you cant finish it! The dishes are very creamy if you're sharing avoid all cream based dishes. Lesson learned. Otherwise good serving, food was good and good price

Hype and Hubris. The food is half decent, prices are typical of cafes in Burwood, but the service is unfriendly and awful. There are better cafes in the immediate vicinity.<br/><br/>Oddly enough, the place often seems quite busy, which makes me think it is all hype with the customers and hubris with the owner.<br/><br/>If you want to feel like you have been granted the privilege of setting foot in this establishment by its arrogant staff, make a booking now. Otherwise, steer clear!

Been there several times. Something different from usual cafes. Awesome ambience and most of all Halal meat. It's perfect place to spend a lovely evening. Though its bit busy in the weekends they take a while to serve but believe me it's worth a wait..

Was seated on a seat for 6 after telling the waiters we had 4 more people still to arrive under the implications that they were going to find us alternate seats. We were told to sit and order as we waited, and so we did. Our food came out and as we dug in.. More of our friends arrived. No seats were found and they were told "too bad, we don't have any room left". They were left standing and we were left with food ordered for no reason seeing as it couldn't be enjoyed with the proper company! <br/>When bringing up our concern with the manager.. We were abused and a couple of females in our group were threatened by their so called manager! <br/>Absolute joke of a place with the worst service in Sydney.. Would never ever go back, nor would I suggest anyone step foot in that place!

Don't waste your time here.. Worst service ever! After making a complaint, the manager of the store told us "we don't need your money here. You can see it is a Tuesday night and we are packed"

If you decide to dine at George's Cafe I would advise you to get the Chicken mushroom dish or anything on the menu that comes with chips and salad. Their portions are massive & the food is delicious! If you have a small appetite one plate is more than enough for two! Recommend for those who love a delicious portioned meal.

In the past the food has been good, but now it's absolutely crap! It's pricey, but they give you big portions. However, that's no use because the pasta I ordered taste like cardboard.

Proportions are massive, good to share a plate between two. I don't know why people are complaining, it's not a fine dining restaurant, it's like a family one. I've always enjoyed the food there, will definately fill you up ;)

George's Gaffe (of Food Sins). Massive portions of... well stuff on a plate. Give me less and make it palatable, please. I remember my childhood where TV dinners taste better.

Food was bad. I got overcharged for things i didn't order. Some rude woman told me she was the manager when she clearly was not and didn't even listen to me when I was complaining. Very untrained staff.

This place is great for desserts. I've come back three times in the past few months just to get my fix. The prices are decent (~ $12 or Tiramisu) considering they are very significant in size - more than enough for two to share.
