Review Canton Noodle House - Burwood

Been here a lot, always busy which means the food is always fresh. Decent size portions so value for money highly recommend

Signature Wan Tan Mee is just taste medium. Definitely not the best but still delicious. Crispy chicken are very good. Shop are too small and not enough table for more customers. Staff services are good.

Definitely enjoyed the food. Place looks run down like it’s been there forever but the quality of the food is top notch. The beef brisket hotpot was surprising in that it was all meat, and no gooey fat bits hanging off it like I find with some other restaurants. Also if you come here you must try their signature tofu. Looks homemade and is oh so yummy.

Great food lovely little shop great service prices are affordable

One of the most authentic Cantonese places in Sydney. Huge portions, great food, good prices. Not the fanciest place you can find but certainly the place you go for a solid meal. Recommend the chow mein and the salt and pepper dishes. They've just renovated too (at the time of this posting) so it's way cleaner than it used to be.

I can sum this place up in three words: cheap, fast and tasty. Cantonese cuisine is served here in a street food style (more oil, more salt, more flavour in general but over-powering at times). Service is minimal as you would expect from a Chinese restaurant.

Foods are tasty but salty because ingredients are not fresh. Walls and floor tiles look busy. Colours don’t match, made me don’t feel like eating (I don’t normally have this feeling please see it yourself)
Ben Khoo
A typical Cantonese restaurants serving mostly Hongkong style cuisine. The food are quite tasty and reasonable prices. Services are quite good.

I came here for a quick lunch. It was quite busy and the restaurant was full. I ordered some fried buns, wonton noodle soup and sweet and sour pork. The food itself was okay although the wait time for the meals took a bit long. I received my soup and it took around 20 minutes after for the person I was with main to come out. Understandable due to how busy they were, although I feel bad eating my own meal while a hungry person is in front of me waiting for theirs.

The soup was very very filling and the wontons were very full. I enjoyed the fried buns, as they are one of my favourites. I tried the sweet and sour pork and it was very very sweet.

Overall it was quite tasty and besides the long wait time for the food it was pretty enjoyable.

Food is alright but service is unbelievably bad it's actually shocking. Want to be treated disrespectfully when your meal comes an hour late? This is the place for you. Just close down this business and nothing of value will be lost.

This branch used to be great but I think after changing owners it has gone downhill. Food took 30 mins to come up despite the place being less than half empty. The egg noodle dish was bland, congee alright.

I don't know why this place can have such a high rating. Waited for over 30 mins at lunch time and they told me they forgot my order. No apologize. Rude staff and worst service ever.

This is one of favourite local food restaurant in Burwood. Their price is quite reasonable and serving was pretty descent as well. The favourite food is the salt & pepper flounder fish. You can tell, that almost each table in this restaurant always order this dish. We ordered set menu for 4 people and we share easily for 5 of us. Highly recommended if you are in Burwood. Oldie but goodie !!!

Quick, cheap and food is of great value due to the cost. Lunch time menu is even cheaper with an array of Noodle, rice and Congee option.

Only thing I don’t like is they cram you in like sardines.

Very good wonton and Cowgee!!
Aimee.
Great customer service and friendly staff. The staff apologised multiple times for our drinks coming late as they ran out of ingredients to make them. Our food came out fast and was super fresh and hot.
Pam
Ordered shanghai noodles with pork and no mushrooms. Currently in awe! Such a big portion. So delicious. And at lunch time under $10! Not confident about the other dishes.

Recommended

Canton Noodle House is a casual Cantonese eatery on Burwood Road. The nondescript eatery resembles a typical old-school Hong Kong cha chan teng or teahouse, with functional plastic tables and black metal chairs.

I ordered their wanton (or dumpling) noodles ($9.80). The noodles comprised half a dozen of wantons, which were delightfully wrapped with juicy chunks of minced meat and chopped prawns. It would taste even better if the wantons were better marinated.

The egg noodles were decently blanched and it’s texture was moderately springy and chewy. Dunked in the hot tasteless broth, the noodles became soft and overcooked as I attempted to rush through my meal. Worth a go though, but I’ll probably not return.

Such a huge menu with many types of dishes you can order. It's like Hong Kong and they serve the famous dishes from Hong Kong. The lunch specials are great too and the store is busy. They can do with a renovation but overall is tasty!!!
David Berry
Food was nothing special and we had to wait 40 minutes for 2 dishes to arrive. There was no apology or expectations set around the delay. Ridiculous. Will never go back.

Top Notch Dishes!

You walked in and brings back memory of Hong Kong restaurants, these decors and some Cantonese music playing over the stereo.

4 of us, decided to order set menu for 4, with the mud crab as the main dish.
Some more you choose 4 mote dishes from the options and entrees and rice included.

Not a bad deal after all.
All dishes are tasty and generous portions.

Very cheap and taste is good too :) we had 6 people and got the 5 choices option for 80$
Salt and pepper squid isn't the freshest but not bad, everything else is good too definitely worth the price for a quick fix.
Anna
Very busy place with an extensive menu. There were lots of staff working but they are not very attentive and it takes a while to grab their attention for anything.

Food wise it was pretty good, fresh and clean flavours and not overly heavy or oily. Prices are not too bad but definitely cheaper Chinese around.

Where has my old review gone?
Been here many times and the 2nd last time was a little disappointing
This time it was a little better but portion sizes have decrease, prices increased
If you didn't know it's a bit squishy in here too
Not as popular as before, there is a lot of competition at the moment but it's still worth a visit

This is probably my favourite restaurant ever for cheap canto food that is so delicious. The only thing that I have tried that I wouldn’t recommend is the chicken chow ho. Would especially recommend the chicken laksa, the beef chow ho with soy sauce, Singapore noodles, beef chow mein with black bean sauce and the thousand year egg and pork porridge.

Real Asian feel at this place and I enjoyed the food! Good spot to catch up with friends and have a tasty meal at a decent price! My friends love this place and they always come here for the delicious food.

Pretty good place for noodles and Cantonese cuisine, service is really good too. The only suggestion I want to give is to provide a big table for big event, really love this place.
Kk007
Nice food in general, consistent quality been there many times.
Fried noodles (egg noodles or flat rice noodles) are recommended over the ones in soup
Johnny Pan
Like most Chinese restaurants, the portions are very generous. The wonton soup is very tasty and the snow peas with scallops were cooked perfectly. The salted fish chicken fried rice was also well flavoured to complement other dishes
Dora Chi
One of my favorite Cantonese restaurant. I like the taste which is authentic and their proportions are not very huge nor hard to finish, but the waiting time is a bit too long during lunch hours and the food is a bit too greasy.
Cool Hufhuh
Really nice cheap food. Recommend the chow mein cicken also the pork braised in xo sauce. With fried wonton it makes a cheap delicious dinner!

Decent southern Chinese food... Unless I have nothing to eat around Burwood other wise I wouldn't go again. But it definitely won't disappoint u if u do decide to go and try it.

this place is seriously a typical HK noodle/yum cha place that provide great value of food.

It is small and often with a lot of people, but probably worth the wait.

I came here by myself over the weekend, it was 9pm so not many people around. There is a table special: 5 scallops with rice noodle for $17.5. Out of curiosity, I ordered this dish and it was a huge plate with full rice noodle and decent size of scollops. Wth a ice HK milk tea, 20 dollars I also got next day's lunch sorted.

It's cheap Chinese food and that's all it is. Food is mediocre and takes forever to come. Be prepared to wait 30-40 minutes for your food. Service here is terrible as well.

Hmmmm, it wasn't until I uploaded the photos from this lunch at Canton Noodle House that I realised, how unhealthy it is! Everything is very oily and deep-fried! Arggghh, why are the yummy foods always the most unhealthy!. Anyways, here we are at Canton Noodle House in Burwood. Located right on Burwood road slightly opposite the main Westfields entrance, this place is always packed. This afternoon was no exception and there was a line out the door.

I've been here many times during the past few years, and it's always loud and busy during peak hours. Reminds me of daily life at Eastwood, which isn't a bad thing - but just something to keep in mind in terms of atmosphere.

The food is average, the portions are pretty good considering the price you pay. Service is quick but very non-interpersonal.

Would return when i'm looking for a quick, cheap and filling meal, but don't feel like eating at the Westfield Food Court across the road.
Denise LL
the service is poor

asked for chilli sauce and it never came, asked someone else and it never came, asked third person, the sauce went to another table, asked again and it finally came when we almost finished our fried noodle dish....

wonton and dumpling noodle soup which is their speciality was very disappointing. The meat tasted off and had a weird taste to it. Noodles and soup was normal but the wonton/dumpling was very very bad. Hope we don't get sick! I passed this feedback to the cash register lady when paying and she said it may be the mushroom taste, I said there were no mushrooms in them. Just tasted off/bad/unfresh.

Don't want to come here again

This place almost always has a line of hungry patrons waiting to get in. Please note this is a cash only joint. The ambience is chaotic, with hungry diners jostling for an empty table. I did not think the food did justice to the madness and hype. But you get awesome bang for your buck.

Fairly average food & the place itself is nothing special. But for the price you pay, the food is nice & the portions are generous. I had the chilli chicken and rice - nice sauce although the chicken was a little 'soggy' for my liking. I also had the dim sim which were really tasty & large! The dipping sauce they came with was good too.

Worth it for a quick, easy meal when you can't be bothered to cook & are passing by. But wouldn't go out of my way to return here.

Visit here every now and again when I have the time as its always busy at lunchtime!

Never have to wait very long, the chow Mein noodles are excellent. A great place for lunch, clean restaurant, not a fancy place but food is very good.

Having been here regularly through the past ten or so years I've grown accustomed to waiting for ten to fifteen minutes for might be the best affordable Chinese food in Burwood. What they lack in glitz they more than make up for in price and taste.

The 'fujian (hokkien) fried rice' is a persona favourite of mine, and is chocked full of calamari, chicken, and greens.

The 'shandong chicken' is not very good. More akin to just a normal fried whole chicken served with plum sauce than anything else. I highly suspect that they served us the wrong dish. Strongly avoid.
Brutal_AF
not bad for cheap chinese food, not too oily and pretty decent. they also have quite a large drinks menu that reminds me of hk. if you go in not expecting too much, you wont be disappointed.
Jewel Eats
No pretense, very reasonable Cantonese cuisine similar to what you would get in Hong Kong. Don't expect first class, and you will be rewarded with tasty and economical canto Chinese meals. I go here regularly

-- Beef stir fried with bitter melon in black bean sauce on rice --The bitter melon was cooked well and not too bitter. The beef was tender but wasprobably soaked in baking soda to tenderise. Quick, made to order and cheap. . -- Beef Brisket on dry noodles with side soup --Beef brisket was quite tender but could have been better if cooked for a little longer.Love my egg noodles with oyster sauce (incorporated in the noodles). Didn't really drinkthe soup nor did I dunk the noodles in the soup. Quick, made to order and cheap.

If you're looking for fancy dining, this is the wrong place but if you're just looking for delicious, hearty food, you're on point. We ordered braised chicken with satay sauce, Mongolian beef, sweet and sour pork and fried rice. I have had better fried rice but the rest of the dishes were amazing. The pricing is cheap and the servings are generous. I would happily revisit.

Hidden gem in Burwood. May seem dingy and unappealing from the outside but the food tastes amazing and is extremely reasonably priced! Had the 2 persons set meal and was left with lunch the next day as their portions were that big. If you're looking for fuss free, authentic Cantonese cuisine this is the place.

Its okay, it feels very messy and unoragnized during the usual busy times. But today was second time I've got a bowl with a bit of rice in it (before ordering!) nasty. Couldn't get a receipt either, they kept giving me the credit card print out and not a tax invoice. Didn't bother arguing with them since english isn't that strong there.

My dad spent the afternoon installing all this random stuff in my garage for me so we decided to take him out to eat something he likes.... some good ol' fashion authentic food at Canton Noodle House.

It's situated on the main eat-strip of Burwood on Burwood Road... alongside many other wannabes... but this place holds its own. It's cosy, a bit hawkerish, you might need to wait for seats and it's not the cleanest but it's clean enough. The waitress is working overtime with such a high turnover but seems to have the whole place under control.

We started off with the Won Ton Soup with Noodles. I love this... really reminds me of how it was in Mongkok, Hong Kong... except not served with the waitresses finger dipped into my soup. The Won Ton and Noodles had this crunchy bite to it. It really added that texture needed when doing this dish right. Even the meat filling in the Won Ton was quite generous and delicious. It comes out piping hot... but there's just no patience in me to wait for it to cool....

Next we had the Eggplant with Spicy Mince and Rice. One of my wife's favourite combination of flavours. This place did the dish justice. The eggplant was soft and saucy... and with a hint of a lil' kick.

Last but not least we ordered the Beef Chow Mein... which they initially got wrong but they corrected the dish without any fuss. The best part of this dish has to be the noodles come out crunchy... which I try and get onto my plate and into my mouth before the sauce kills the buzz. I know right.. the only time I don't want sauce lingering on my food. The meat is tender and the vegetables just balance out the dish but do make it slightly blander.

All that the meal came out to be under $30... and it left all three of us feeling just full enough. The place even comes with complimentary hot tea.

You might not get service with a smile.. because they're busy and Asian BUT if you're after some authentic and lip smacking Chinese food... the make a beeline for Canton Noodle House... I don't think it'll disappoint.

Spec Chicken Noodle Soup with shredded chicken and onion, spicy... Oh wow. Yum! It was on the lunch menu

This place has super fast and efficient chefs and service. Pipping hot, humble, honest and hearty food to your table, super quick. We ordered the egg sauce, beef hor fun ($9.50). The peas are frozen, so not as good as fresh, but the beef is tender and the egg sauce has the right consistency. The hor fun is well-cooked, but not as much ‘wok-hey’ than I would have liked. This is the lovely wok heat and char taste which differentiates excellent hor fun from good hor fun. The other dish we got was the chicken chow mein ($8 lunch special). The noodles are lovely and crispy, with the middle section of the noodles full of the

Well priced food and the place is always packed with diners. My recommendations would be the green beans with XO sauce and the Pork chop peking style!
Noisy Noodler
The dish was polished off without too many complaints, and considering the portion size, a good value proposition when washed down with free hot tea!
Fillmytummy
We were craving traditional Hong Kong Food after work and heard this place is the best.
The Random Foodie
what it lacked in fancy decor, it made up for it in the local crowds and the food. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted with a busy, noisy and packed restaurant with little room
Mr Shawn & Miss Chicken
It's cheap, the service is friendly, and the menu has loads of choices beyond your standard suburban Cantonese joint. Joy.
Violinus
Love it. I am fortunate to live very close by and we always bring friends here. Don't worry if you have to wait for a table, it's worth it.
Neateatsydney
Classics done right. It's the classic Canton style eatery done well - portion sizes are above average and they serve all the dishes you would expect, *think congee and wonton noodles. No fussing about with the fancy stuff - even so, their extensive menu is done right, the way it should be!! For the ultimate treat, try their lunch time specials menus - a real bargin that will really hit the spot!
Yulia
Servicr is average at best, food delish!. You don't come here for the service but for the food. We get the soft shell crab, the tofu balls and a rice dish. Always delicious and portions are large.
Fan JianJia Frankie
The service is really bad and waitress is really arrogant.
Tastybits
Good reliable staples. It's crowded for a reason - consistent food and reasonable prices.
William Vu
Food here was of average standard, however worth the price. Waiters are unfriendly and the one that was with me had very poor english (just enough to get the order through, though). Seating and tables are of average standard and a smart feature is that the entire menu range is posted on colourful paper along the wall.

Popular Chinese restaurant for good reasons.... Granted, Canton Noodle House won't win any awards for outstanding food or service. However, it delivers what's expected: a good feed at reasonable prices. I actually like the food here and it gets bonus points for not rushing you out the door. The XO beef and Japanese tofu hotpot was delicious - make sure you order rice so you can spoon the gravy over it. So more-ish.
There's usually a line during dinner but we arrived at 8pm Friday and surprisingly, didn't have to wait - guess that's the time to aim for. It's also pretty hilarious that seating in this restaurant is endlessly configurable...the chairs and tables never stay in the same spot for long.
