This place is the best place ever. I’ve been a few times and can’t get enough. I came all the way from Brisbane just to get the pizza. By far the best I’ve ever had.
Truly the best Italian in Australia!!!Amazing food and great service, this place is a must visit if u come to Byron!!! Just awesome delizioso
Exceptional customer service. Staff was very friendly and accomadating and the food was just WOWWW... quality and flavours hit the spot. I Definitely recommend this place to everyone who's in Byron Bay or just driving through 👌🏽
Best pizza that I've had outside of Europe. The base is so crusty, the sauce is amazing, and the toppings are top quality.
We came here a few weeks after this little gem of a restaurant first opened around 4 years ago(?). It was the best ever pizza then and based on our meal last night it is still unbeatable. 6 out of 5!
True to the promise on their menu... real honest food, fresh ingredients, superb antipasto, real Italian pizzas to die for and service with a smile...
Il BUCO , an italian restaurant where you really eat a very good italian Pizza and much more , the best !!
Best Pizza , salad and desserts I've had ! Quality fresh ingredients. Great service too. Definitely recommend.
couldnt get a better place, amazing staff, amazing food, amazing seating and amazing dessert
Amazing Pizza so fresh highly recommend Great Service !
It may be small (probs doesn't sit more than 20) but it doesn't get more Italian than authentic thin based pizza and organised chaos. Reminds me of being in Italy. Great food and great people. That's all I have to say about this place
One of the best pizza in Australia ! Authentic, delicious, super! Evviva l'Italia !
Tasty, mouthwatering, authentic food....great atmosphere and fantastic, friendly service. Highly recommend eating in this restaurant :) Top it off with the best Tiramisu and excellently brewed coffee!!!
Pizzas a good if you like traditional thin crispy base without too much topping. Always busy and no lingering. Salads and portions are generous. It is our go to place each year in Byron.
This place is quite small and cramped, when we dined here we felt a bit rushed because there was a line of people watching us eat while waiting for available seats however their pizzas were nice, fresh and crispy. Definitely will be back next time we’re down in Byron, but probably will stick to take away and eat it on the beach which is only about 100 meters away!!

Loved the place, the food and staff were the cherry on the whole experience i had here! They only forgot to add cheese on marinara which anyway doesn’t come with cheese i had only requested for it. When i told them to just let the pizza be and get top it with cheese, the staff was so apologetic and got me a new pizza just the way how it’s supposed to be cooked with cheese. While paying the bill we realised they hadn’t even charged me for it and apologised again! I did leave a good tip for the amazing staff and irresistible pizzas! Thanks will come again ❤️
Delcious pizza, perfectly thin crust, good quality classic ingredients, amazing grand padano cheese, succulent prosciutto. Best meal we had in Byron. Go here!!
Incredible Pizza. One of the best I've had. Classic Napolitana with unbelievable tomato sauce and beautiful crisp base. Excellent service. Don't miss!
Fantastic pizza menu, simple use of quality ingredients make for a memorable meal... waiters and staff are fantastic and and you get to see your pizza being made... best in Byron.... and BYO as well 👍
The best!!! Simple fresh food. Done really well. My favourite place to eat in Byron bay. Love your work. Best pizza base on the east coast. Heading back for the 2nd time this week.
We had takeaway pizza from here twice. The pizzas are fantastic. There is a real Italian authenticity to their base, sauce and ingredients. All fresh and very tasty. I highly recommend both the hot salami and the truffle pizza.
One of the best real Italian pizza ever! I had tartufo pizza, so tasty. I also tried Nutellino as dessert! Full of Nutella so yummi! Really nice staff, highly recommend!
A lovely little restaurant that serves delicious pizzas!! We ordered 2 pizzas to share amongst 3 people, taking in considerate 2 of them were guys and we couldn't finish the pizzas!! :0 They were simple, yet spot on!! Lovely service and pretty good price wise

Such a small place we almost walked past it. I'm glad we didn't! Good service and good pizza! We got half vegetarian and half prosciutto which was great. The pizza felt light and had a nice thin base!
Amazing! The bruschetta was simply delicious. It's a small busy place but don't underestimate it, it's worth the wait. Delicious, simple, high quality and warming. One of the best little restaurants that is a must when in Byron.

Brilliant Italian pizza experience. Everything from the quality olive oil they use to the choice of greens for the salads was exactly what you want for a delicious Roma-style feast. If you like serious pizza this is THE place. I'm an Italian food fiend and I give it my highest possible recommendation. The guys who run it are super nice too & it's BYO. If you're in Byron for a night go to this place for dinner.
Had the vegetarian pizza which was light thin and fresh. However the crust was burnt and had the burnt taste which was a bit disappointing. Also had the tiramisu which was different and a definite must try for its creamy deliciousness!
An absolutely brilliant little place, which you could not fault on any level. The staff were very accomodating and friendly, and the food was seriously next level. There's a reason these guys were voted Trip Advisor's favourite Aussie pizza restaurant (Google it!). We had an antipasto board and pizza - both were great and were brought out quickly, despite it being a busy Saturday night. Lemon and mango gelato topped it off and sent us into a food coma. Top stuff guys, we'll be back next time we visit Byron!
We had dinner here last night. The kids had a magaretta pizza each and we parents had the daily special and a ham and mushroom. All were excellent.
Absolutely phenomenal pizza. We came nice and early and it was already full of people. Although pizza for dinner appears unsophisticated and boring, the food that came out was absolutely amazing. The cheese was absolutely phenomenal on the pizza and they also do BYO with no Corkage as well. Definitely a must visit in Byron Bay.
Really nothing more than a tiny milkbar with a pizza oven and a kitchenette reminiscent of a Jayco pop top, but don't be deceived - oh what they do with it.
The bruschetta is ethereal - the reddest ruby red tomatoes atop a light pizza base, cut into long strips. Oily deliciousness cut through with fresh basil and razor thin garlic straight out of the prison scene from Goodfellas. 10/10
Then the Margherita pizza for the littlelies, which is ravenously gobbled down. Then our salsiccia pizza with real Italian sausage and roast desree potatoes arrives. The thinnest, almost gossamer thin, delicious base, proper Italian passata, real fior di latte mozzarella, steaming hot, straight out of the conventional (not wood fired) pizza oven. This is seriously good.
Served beside a caprese salad, with the chewiest, most delightful buffalo mozzarella straight out of Capri. More of the delectable tomatoes and Sicilian olive oil drizzled on top.
Then the piece de resistance. The tiramisu arrives in its own ducky little jar. Heaven in a bottle - the syrupy espresso goodness at the bottom was another level. The pannacotta with fresh raspberry, raspberry coulis and walnut chunks is also very handy.
The number one spot in Byron according to all the sites that matter, admittedly unconventional and on the surface unsophisticated, brings it home with gusto. Genuine Italian guys behind the counter only add to the authenticity and charm. We'll be back.
Great pizza, not too rich with the perfect base and cheese/ingredients ratio. The space is small so you might want to consider take away if it's busy!
Sensational food and staff! Left wanting more. Authentic and delicious. Staff were attentive, helpful and friendly. Will definitely be back.
It may be small (probs doesn't sit more than 20) but it doesn't get more Italian than authentic thin based pizza and organised chaos. Reminds me of being in Italy. Great food and great people. That's all I have to say about this place 👌🏼
The food doesn't get much better than this. Pizza with a lot of topping, thin crust and a lot of flavour. The rocket salad was equally amazing. If there would be a bit more space to sit we would have given it a 5! Highly recommended.
Simple food done very well.
From the outside this restaurant looks unassuming though the line of people queuing should be a clear sign that the food will not disappoint.
The pizza dough os thin but still has great elasticity. The home made tomato base brings out all the flavours of those fresh toppings. The mozzarella is stringy and full of flavour and their dessert is a knockout (so much so that their tiramisu panacotta sold out in less than 2 hrs of their dinner service when I was there...)
Great quality pizza at a more than reasonable price.
Located down a laneway/side-street in the centre of Byron's eating/drinking district, Il Buco is certainly worth a try if you are after good, traditional pizza. A very small venue with limited seating both inside and out, it may not be the classiest of places, but what it lacks in white tablecloths and silverware it makes up for in buckets of quaintness, charm and intimacy.
Shared the quattro stagioni (four seasons) and the salsiccia, both of which were good. An accompanying rocket, pear and parmesan salad served with nuts was also great quality and a more than decent size.
This place gets VERY busy, but they are used to doing a brisk take-away business, and are fairly fast with phone orders.
We have spent a week in Byron and this is by far the best food and service we have had! The friendly owner was lovely and the other staff were really informative about the specials and menu. The bufala pizza was delicious and the other one we got, a white base pizza with Brie, was excellent. Would definitely recommend to friends and will be back if (when!) we come back to Byron.
Exceptionnal italian food. They are ranked #1 on Trip Advisor and they deserve it... The pizzas are awesome! Good produce on it. They do take away as well because the restaurant is very small and always full.
Nice pizza and friendly service with a smile which I think is a rarity when it comes to restaurant servers in Byron Bay. The margarita was delicious but the base isn't as great as I'm used to getting in Melbourne. generous serving size.
A crowded and tiny hole in the wall. Had heard this place was the best and certainly we were not disappointed. Beautiful varied menu and plenty of advice given by the lovely young Italian waiter about the words we weren't sure on. No alcohol served but they're happy for you to byo and there's a bottle-o just over the laneway. The pizza is incredible - very thin but still has bubbles in the crust. Toppings are high quality - the Italian smoked meats a treat. Eating them, you may find yourself involuntarily moaning with tastebud joy.. Salads are fresh and generous. Atmosphere is bustling, warm and welcoming - smiling staff and their decor is simple and interesting. If I was a resident in Byron, I would never be able to stay off the carbs with this place in town!
If you're prepared for a little wait, you'll not be disappointed. Fresh, simple ingredients prepared in traditional style leave you're tastebuds wanting more and more. There's a lot that a few other eateries in Byron Bay could learn about service and food from Il Buco. As good as it gets.
KevinBacon&Eggs007 has found himself a winner here. This is a must go to place Byron Bay. Ordered the Buffalo mozzarella pizza and it was most likely the best pizza I have had outside of Italy. After I had taken my first bite into the warm pizza I felt something I hadn't felt since the first time I heard the Saxophone solo in "Never tear us apart." It was beautiful. Highly recommend and defiantly worth the wait if they ask you because seats can be limited. 5 out of 5 Papa Giuseppes for me
Authentic and delicious pizzas here! We had the bufala pizza and the proscuitto funghi pizza between the two of us. Would have ordered more if we could fit them in! The homemade gelato is amazing too (lemonade and mango flavours). The place is small and they don't take reservations, we were on the wait list for half an hour but the wait was definitely worth it. If you can't get a table, order takeaway, you won't regret it!
No wonder it's so popular. Nice fresh pizza with prompt friendly service. Tiramisu was delicious!! It gets busy around dinner time so be prepared to wait or take it away
Authentic Italian pizza! Excellent food and great, friendly service. I wish we had pizza like this in Geelong. Highly recommend this hidden gem but go early to get a table.
Brilliant. Pizzas could have been a little hotter but to be fair we arrived a bit late to pick them up. Incredible nutella calzone and near perfect pizzas. I would come here any time - why don't they have pizza like this in Brisbane?
The sausage pizza special was the best pizza we've ever had, and we've eaten pizza in Sicily and Bologna. It had amazing, salty, slightly tangy taleggio cheese, generously slathered, small bits of rich italian sausage meat peppered through and little juicy sour-sweet pops of pachino cherry tomatoes. The fresh basil leaves just tied it all together.
Not to say the other pizza wasn't great! Fantastic Bundalow? Ham. Such generous toppings too. Service was prompt and very attentive. BYO without corkage. A recipe for a good night. Come early to secure a seat in the tiny place.
Were it possible to give a rating greater than 5.0, I would do so for Il Buco. Thin base that gets moist without collapsing, fresh toppings in just the right proportions. It's easy to see why this tiny place is so popular

Great pizza, authentic Italian style despite not wood-fired. Thin crusty base, great tomato flavours and generous serves of prosciutto (Parma Ham) and other meats.
Great fun service in a tiny little place that's not much bigger than a hole in the wall, hence the name "Il Buco" which translates from Italian to "The Hole".
Licensed only for BYO at the moment, but no corkage charges makes for a very good value, high-quality pizza meal.
One of the best restaurants in Byron and easily the best pizza place anywhere in the region.
Great pizza, lovely owner. Even though it's not wood fired the super crispy base and yummy taste makes up for it. The owner is also a lovely Italian guy that welcomes you with a smile....a rare sight compared to most grumpy hipsters in other restaurants.
Not a particularly cheap pizza (most are over $20) but if you like a good pizza do check it out.
Fresh vegetarian pizza. Perfect base. I like my Italian style pizzas with stronger/more tomatoe on the base. But think this is just personal taste. Salad fresh and service friendly even at end of night when they prob just wanted us out of there.
Great service, great atmosphere and great pizza! Highly recommend.

Do not hesitate coming here, yes it is little, but the food, amazing.
Like everything in Byron on the pricey side but worth it.
Delicious pizza! Very friendly and welcoming staff, and they were really relaxed and genuine. Quick, reasonable. Can't fault it! (And the gorgeous Italian accents are a bonus!)
Fantastic! Brilliant pizza would highly recommend to anyone!
What a great find! Gorgeous welcome and endured us and our friends with babies were seated. Then the best pizzas! I'd go as far as to say ever!! Hot spicy salami, stunning ham, glorious bruschetta then finished with chocolate calzone! Just yum!!
I found this place on urbanspoon and it really exceeded my expectations. The food was incredible and the staff were fantastic! If you don't go, you're missing out
Awesome owner, friendly staff, amazing food. Will be back for sure unbelievable chew.
Great pizza. Nothing to dislike about this place. Staff were friendly and efficient and were able to fit us in at the last minute. The pizzas were fantastic - very tasty and great value for money. This is on our "to return to" list'
The BEST Italiano outside Italy. Pizza salamone inferno AMAZING !! Service, staff, food - best I've had outside Italy!
Delicious food, lovely and attentive staff. Not a lot of room for dining in, but if you manage to nab a table/bench, the close quarters add to the vibe. Will certainly be back!
Worthy of its 100% score. Tasty, fresh and authentic with excellent, attentive service. They clearly take pride in everything they do here. BYO with no corkage fee is a bonus too!
Delicious. Warm welcome, cute café and simply delicious. Try the calzone.
Amazing!!! I have not stopped telling people about this meal for a week....best Italian I think I have ever had! Reasonably priced, delicious food and friendly service....can't wait to go back!!
What a find!!!! This place is cute & cosy. The Italian is authentic. Had a bruchetta to start off. Then had the Prosciutto Funghi & fresh pasta with beef cheeks with bread & salad on the side. Sooooo good. My favourite pasta dish so far!! Perfection.
A fabulous little place in busy Byron with classic italian character. Authentic northern-style pizza with great service. Highly recommend!!
After a full walk from town to the lighthouse and back with a 3yr old, we were stuffed, hungry and impatient. These guys delivered! Clearly passionate about their food and genuine service. Authentic pizza that took me back to holidays in Italy. Thankfully I only live 45min away...see you next time we come down
Tiny little hole in the wall, but scores ten out of ten on the only two things that matter: taste and service. It's byo so hit up the bottle shop across the lane way while they are making your pizza. Four tables, so get there early so you get one! Authentic Italian pizza at its best!
Fantastic service, fantastic pizza!
Great food, great service, great value. "Italian" charm. A BYO with no corkage. It may be a small venue but good food choices and authentic italian food. Highly recommended.
Fantastic service beginning to end. We were greeted by the owner who is clearly proudly Italian (and very rightly so) and an extremely likeable host. yet all staff were lovely and welcoming. Pizza was delicious and spot on too, and yes we'd agree the best pizzas around. Simple recipe done extremely well with quality locally sourced ingredients. Venue BYO which is a bonus. And desserts made by wife of the owner, as expected light , delicious and typically Italian- Tira Misu and Panna Cotta. Best to keep room aside to fit them in!
Authentic italian taste. One of the most authentic pizzas I have tasted in australia. bravo
Ducked down for a takeaway pizza and was not disappointed. Really great base and nice fresh toppings. Yum.
What a gem of a restaurant Il Buco is. Only has a few tables, but the food was exceptional. Umberto, the owner is extremely friendly and Chef Angelo makes an awesome Pizza. We also shared a salad and the desserts. If you like the authentic Italian pizzas with the thin base then suggest you give this place a go - you won't be disappointed.
This is authentic Italian Pizza. Owned and run by a lovely chirpy Italian. The crust is amazing. Everything made fresh by use mainly local products. We couldn't believe how adorable it was!
