Review The Pass Cafe - Byron Bay

Jack Hughes
The wait was long but worth it and I will definitely come back. I recommend it to anyone in Byron bay looking for takeaway lunch on the beach.

A delightful cafe , with an alcohol licence The Pass Cafe .. nicely overlooks The Pass nature reserve area , within the scenic Cape Byron State Conservation Area

Popped in for a quick beverage on our way round to the lighthouse. Stunning spot, lunch on the deck would be mint!

Was really looking forward to trying this place. Apart from the snippy staff member who told me I had 15mins to drink my drink because they were fully booked. There were 4 people sitting at 10.30am. Ordered my $11 vege juice which was horrendous and undrinkable. Then I spotted the snippy waitress making the veggie juices with carrots that were well past their use by date as the ends were black. 😖 Will not be returning

My wife, sister & brother-in-law stopped for a coffee at the Pass cafe at 11.30 this morning. We were told that we could not come inside if we were not ordering food. We were then told that we cannot enjoy our sit-down coffee in a mug or cup but only in takeaway cardboard. We were told that we had to sit outside & at a table up the back of the cafe (apparently this area does not belong to the cafe). The staff were rude beyond reason citing a lack of staff for not allowing us to have a coffee inside. We were advised if we were not satisfied with this arrangement, we could go elsewhere From now on, we definitely will .......

Polite, professional friendly down to earth staff (refreshing for Byron) with great food and value for money (bring cash!). Most reviews start with how great the location, so no surprise that this is one of the best locations in the world as a bonus.

Just had one of the best burgers I have ever eaten, the Japanese chicken burger. Absolutely delicious. Prices are good and very good service even in busy school holiday time. Thoroughly recommend.

A fantastic place. The best place to relax, enjoy a great coffee and breakfast after a walk to the Lighthouse. A must every time I visit Byron. Oh, don’t forget to have lunch as well. Or, nick up from the beach for awesome chips!

Favourite place to eat. The brekky burger is amazing, one of the affordable places in Byron with no ego!! Love being able to go there and not be surrounded by wannabe’s. keep it up The Pass Cafe!! Legends yeeew

My favorite cafe with lovely staff who know how to run this little hidden gem but still have time for a chat-and I do love a chat! There is a great selection on the menu that should suit from the littlest to the most discerning diner who likes an alcoholic beverage with their fare. And the coffee is excellent!!!

Came to the pass while on a holiday in Byron and was told to go here by a local, amazing food, the staff are so friendly and we're always making sure I was okay, the location is great as it's in the national park so it's the only cafe there!

Fantastic coffee, very friendly staff. Well worth a visit on your way back from the lighthouse walk.

What a beautiful cafe and lovely staff. They seated us as quick as they could eventhough it was packed. Served us quite quickly as well. I had the nourish bowl which was absolutely perfect with all the ingredients I wanted and so many flavours and the portions were huge. My partner had the vegetarian breakfast as he wanted something simple and he also enjoyed it the halloumi and the hash browns were greatly cooked.

Absolutely amazing food and service! Genuine portion sizes for what you’re paying. Drinks are amazing as well. 100% will be back the next time we’re in Byron! Already telling friends :)

Came here while I was on a holiday was pretty hungry so decided to go for lunch I ordered the blt on Turkish bread with chips the blt was ok but the chips were all wrinkled up not fresh at all and tasted pretty bad I had 2 and didn’t have any more couldn’t believe they would serve chips like that.. don’t think I would go back

A nice cafe tucked away from the rest of Byron Bay. Decked seating area with views of greenery and even some kookaburras. The burgers and fish and chips were delicious. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Probably one of the most average breakfasts I have ever eaten. The scrambled eggs were significantly over cooked and rubbery, bacon was under cooked and the toast was not toasted and like cutting through a stale piece of bread! And what is with half a plate of rocket that I didn’t ask for that was covered in dressing that got all over the under cooked bacon.

The fresh juice was nice and the view amazing and the only saving grace in an otherwise very underwhelming breakfast experience.

Amazing location on the way to the lighthouse, great spot to stop and have a nice healthy meal. We tried the superfood salad which was very abundant and filling. Slightly overpriced but the amazing vegan smoothies made up for it.

Food took over an hour. Wouldn't poach my eggs. Friendly, but we were pretty over it by the end.

Byrons best value with sassy service. I had breakfast there yesterday. Raining and busy and the staff still smiled.
As an ex farmer I like a value and the serve size and quality was great. Best part is the grandkids get looked after with range of food and play area straight out to the beach.

We will be back soon to Byron and the Pass Cafe is the best value in town

Beautiful, honest, fresh and delicious food! It has a lovely outlook and view, but the furniture is in desperate need of replacement.
The only annoyance is you have to pay $4/hour for parking.

I'll be back next time I'm in Byron!

Good breakfast stop. Great place to stop on a mid-morning walk. Great BLAT and fantastic freshly-squeezed juice! Coffee could've been a little better.

Poor service. Kitchen closed at 2:30 so forced to get ice creams instead, man behind counter looked blankly at us when we were ready to pay before a lady huffed, put down her mop and hurried over only to rudely and reluctantly take our $12 for two ice creams and a juice pop.
Hungry Surfer
Hugely expensive and overpriced. $19 for two tiny mushrooms on some thin freezing cold toast with a bag of rocket dumped on top. Terrible. Noisy. $75 for 2 people for breakfast is crazy. Save yourself the trouble and go elsewhere. This place is a stitch up.

Disappointed. Does anyone get tired of spending half a days wage on mediocre food served by a grunting waitress at a dirty table? Welcome to Byron Bay - where cafes don't need to try cause the unsuspecting tourists just keep rolling up. As longtime locals its constant disappointment due to substandard food and indifferent servers all at exhorbadant prices. The pass cafe is not immune. After a lovely walk around the lighthouse we.thought why not? How can eggs on toast with sauteed mushrooms go wrong. Poached stale eggs on supposedly sourdough - more like fluffy white nothingness - no butter on toast - mushrooms half cooked with old vegetable oil and no seasoning or flavour what so ever and a few sprigs of wilted rocket on the side of the plate. The pancakes were Passable (no pun intended) however the fake maple syrup was not on. It would be so easy to use some delicious local sourdough, add some herbs or garlic to the mushrooms and at least use olive oil to cook with but hey that might cut into the profits. The sad thing is that this will go on and on because there's no lack of holiday makers wandering past thinking to themselves why not? I will give one positive. And that is the bloke at the front counter welcoming us was very personable .

Don't tell anybody. Nothing better than a walk up to the Lighthouse, watch the Whales and Dolphins and then a great coffee and breakfast at the Pass.
What's more, the staff are great. Can be really busy, but they always have a smile and a joke.
Oh, and the food is really good too. Can't beat their Egg and Bacon Roll!
And what a great setting.
Tip, if you are on the beach at lunch time remember to pack a few bucks and nick up to the Pass for their excellent chips. None better when eating on the beach in the sun.

Nestled in atop Byrons almost best beach, this is a beautiful spot. The food was delicious and the fresh juice amazing. Its not a overpriced restaurant, or a trashy take away joint its somewhere nicely in between. Perfect.
