Review Twisted Sista - Byron Bay

Jessie Schilling
We were desperate for breakfast on our last day so stopped by this cafe because it looked busy (always a good sign!). The aesthetic wasn’t for me (there were socks and gnomes all over the walls), but the wait staff were lovely and the food was all very reasonably priced. I opted for the gluten free banana bread with the pecan nut butter. The portion size was huge!! Good value for money.

Really cute little cafe. Very relaxed and cozy vibe. Simple menu but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the food. The turkey panini was really tasty and enjoyable. Also had a good range of cakes and sweets. Didn’t have a coffee but can confirm that the smoothies are also rather delish. My only criticism was that the staff member that served us appeared a little annoyed and was therefore a little rude when we were ordering. Otherwise great place to eat when youre feeling something a little more light hearted.

They are not friendly, food is poor, expensive and not environmentally aware. They serve everything in take away even if you order food and eat in. They clearly targeting tourist and not repeat buys / locals. I have a 1 rather than a zero because their socks are pretty cool.

Food was okay. However do not come to this cafe if you have allergies or other dietary requirements - a friend ordered a vegetarian wrap, which was safe to eat with her allergies. She later ended up in hospital due to a change in the ingredients which was not told prior to her ordering. When asking the staff members for help they were rude and unhelpful.

Disappointing experience Went here for breakfast - sat down and then realised later that you had to order at the counter (there are no signs to indicate this). Menu was not exciting but we decided to give it a chance anyway. Ordered scrambled eggs, toast etc. it arrived in a plastic takeaway container with plastic cutlery even though we were eating in. After a looking around we realised that this is just what they do. Scrambled eggs and thick toast is near impossible to eat with a plastic knife and fork. Eggs were tasteless, bread ended up being soggy. Overall I would not here and they really need to improve there communication and signage. 2/5 stars is being polite.

Good coffee, service and food. Recommended

Every time I'm in Byron Bay I stop here. Always served with a smile and leave with a very happy belly! I usually get one of their many amazing savoury options and get one of their delicious home made cakes to bring back to gold coast for dessert! Must stop cafe for a fantastic coffee and lunch!

Run by beautiful people, serving fabulous coffee, fantastic breakfast, the muffins here are the best muffins you will ever try and Ive had muffins all over the globe. The lady making these muffins deserves a nobel peace prize. 👏🙏❤🇭🇲🙌 27/12/20

Coffee at same price and standard as nearby places. I enjoyed the ambiance though as the staff were super chill and friendly

10% surcharge for Sunday and 1.5 % charge for using your saving account ! daylight robbery , Food good but expensive .Service good and friendly Not worth the money

I saw the food in window and thought “yum!”....despite the $17 price tag.<br/>I figured they’d just give a decent size slice considering the price. <br/>I ordered my veggie stack slice and sat down prepared to enjoy.<br/>What I got was a slice of veggie stack the size of a a small cake slice that would generally cost approximately $7-$9. PLUS because it was Sunday they charged me a 10% surcharge so it cost me even MORE! <br/>Then my coffee...should I even start? WHY have they not got a barista on that knows how to make a coffee? They might as well just sell Nespresso machine coffees cus it’d probably taste better and the auto milk frother would do a better job then what I got.<br/>Did the veggie stack taste good - yes! Was it worth the $17 + 10%? NO<br/>Did my coffee at least have decent flavour? Nope.

This place knows good quick service. I had a classic very tasty croissant with shaved ham, cheese, tomato with a nice coffee. My partner had the lindt cheesecake, she just about fell off her chair it was so good!!

My favourite cafe in Byron. The cakes here are to die for. Service needs a little improvement but I’ll happily suffer through a little rudeness for some sugar. Nice casual vibe and good coffee as well.

Came here for breakfast on New Year’s Day one of the few places open for business and it did not disappoint. Eggs Benedict was delicious and the vege stack is a must try for vegans.<br/>Friendly staff and well priced

Had a vegetarian dish for lunch which the waitress referred to as 'pumpkin pie' with a side salad. It was average and slightly overpriced. I felt like I was paying mainly for the generous portion size rather then quality of food.

Great location and pretty good service (in terms of happiness and willingness to help). Took 20 minutes to get a juice and the second juice (which was the same as the first and ordered at the same time) came out another 10 minutes later. They've got an awful ordering system where you line up inside but it gets very crowded and you back into other people who are eating and that ruins their experience. Wasn't overly impressed with the quality of food although it was good. Didn't like the benedict sauce that needs work. Food was plentiful. Just wish it was more flavourful. Good location and a good atmosphere. Just needs a little work

I wanted to give this place a much higher rating after having such fond memories of it in the past. Took my partner here after bragging about how good it was. The food is still delicious but the service has definitely gone downhill. Their ordering system just doesn't make sense, they had at least 3 waitresses on the floor but you have to line up to order your food. There was one person taking orders on a busy Sunday morning with the queue going out the door. On top of that they don't have menus at the table, so you have to go up the front to figure out what you want and then go to the back of the queue and wait to order. Or other people decided to choose what they wanted when they got to the front of the queue which took forever. On top of this the woman who was making coffees stopped to take orders due to queue meaning that all the waitresses were just standing around as there were no coffees to take out. Our drinks took 15 minutes and our food took a ridiculous 40 minutes.I ordered a pre-made bagel in the window and partner ordered avocado on toast with a side of bacon which was forgotten about. They then brought out two tiny pieces of bacon which was $5. Overall the food was still good but service was horrendous.

After staying the night in Byron Bay, we decided to have some breakfast. Walking down Lawson Street, Twisted Sista was the first place we came across, so we decided to give it a try. We decided to sit inside, and ordered our meals. You order at the counter as there is no menus on the table, only on the black board behind the front counter. I suspect they are used to locals, as the server seemed impatient when we were trying to order and look at the menu. It was not a great start to our experience, as we felt like deer in headlights as the server did not provide much information. We sat down at a table and hoped it was the right thing to do. Thankfully, the rest of the staff made up for the lack of interest from the initial staff member. They were very pleasant and helpful. <br/><br/>We were seated next to the pass, and watched as meals came out. They all looked delicious, and large portions. The food in the counter was just was huge in there portion size.  The coffees came and tasty, and then our meals came out. The prices are slightly expensive for breakfast, but upon seeing the plates, you can see that you are getting value for money. Both meals were unable to be finished as there was plenty on the plate. Overall, after our initial staff experience, Twisted Sista was a nice place to try.

Does all the little stuff well. This little cafe provided a great atmosphere for brunch. Service was friendly and prompt. Had an avocado smash and a big breaky. Coffee was great but the berry and mango smoothie was a particular highlight. If you're looking for a no fuss spot for brunch, lunch, or just a quick afternoon tea, Twisted Sista had got you covered.

No troubles had by us. Service was fast and friendly for my family. Food serves were generous and flavoursome. Drinks (smoothies and coffees) were all tasty. Not the cheapest of places to eat but would go back.

Some call it bitching. I call it motivational speaking. That's what was on a tea towel for sale on the wall at Twisted Sista. My wife loves this place, she says they serve the largest portion size of cake she has ever seen. She always has a positive experience when ever she goes there. Sadly, on my first visit there yesterday, this was not my experience. It does look inviting from outside, the tea towels for sale are cool and made me laugh. Ok, now for my motivational speech. The scrambled eggs were rubbery. It's hard to cook scrambled eggs, I know because I used to ruin them, unaware of my crime. Then one day while I was rubberising some eggs, my wife said, "serve them when they are under cooked by 60 seconds, they finish cooking on the plate." With that knowledge I became a hero at making scrambled eggs (it pays to also break yolks with a fork, and not mix all the white in). My wife received her coffee, but mine was forgotten. Her coffee was made with love, when mine arrived it was made with warm milk and mud. Undrinkable. Cheers, Greg.

Best veggie wrap. I ate here I had vegetarian Turkish bread sandwich, was the best !!!! I enjoyed every second of it.. Very filling, and selection of veg in the sandwich was tasty !!! <br/>I also had Banana smoothie was quite nice!! <br/>Thanks twisted sista cafe

Best ham, cheese & tomato toasty. I must say I had the tastiest ham , cheese & tomato toasty on seeded bread - it really hit the spot and a very generous serve. The coffee and service was good. I must say though I agree with the reviews in that it is very overpriced - e.g I couldn't see why a muffin was priced at $7? Most savoury items to choose from were around $17 including side garnish , thus why I opted for the sandwich instead & was happy with my choice ($8.90). If the food was a lot more reasonably priced I would recommend it however based on the savoury options, there are much much better options around. Having said that I didn't try their cakes , so they might be popular for coffee & cake ??

Poor service, rude staff and a couldn't careless attitude. Honestly, if I were the owner of this cafe I would be sacking the front of house staff. This place looks so inviting from the entrance but the three of us should have changed our minds when the girl taking orders over the counter looked at us without so much as a smile and said "yep?" then turned around and had a conversation with a fellow worker. I left my daughter to order while I chose one of the 3 vacant tables. She returned to the table and told me the bill was over $70 and she didn't get a receipt because the girl had gone straight from taking the money to looking at the next diner and asking for the order. When the table server came by I asked her if she could get us a receipt which was followed by rolling eyes by her and the girl at the counter. Yes it was well over $70, 2 on the small side juices, 1 soy coffee, mushroom omelette and 2 poached eggs on toast. 30 minutes passed and the other 2 tables had filled, they were having their drinks. It was busy but not so busy you couldn't get a table. 40 minutes later and the other tables were eating full breakfasts. I like to show some patience but 45 minutes later I take the receipt up to the now empty counter and ask the girl if she could check on our food, handing her our receipt so she can find the order and see hopefully that the time on it now showed 50 minutes. This girl who is only able to smile at guys when they come to the counter held the receipt up and said "and what do you want me to do with this?" .....I said "use it to check our order and see the time of ordering" being nice doesn't work with this one, she put it back down on the counter top with out even looking at it and went out the back. She came back and said they were busy and it will be out. No apology for obviously forgetting our $75 order, not even pleasant eye contact. And yes 10 full minutes later food came out, well two of them did, the third, was another 10 minutes. The eggs on toast looked great, the omelette was so over cooked and rubbery it made me wonder if they know how to make a fluffy omelette, have they overcooked one in an omelette maker and tried it themselves. It was inedible, scorching hot and bright yellow. Staff zoomed between the customers, banging up against our chairs, a complaint also from the customers next to us and not a smile to be seen. Totally oblivious to giving good enjoyable service, staff couldn't care any less about customers. They were doing time, just getting this shift over. Wouldn't return even if I only had a choice between them and Macca's.

Gluten Free Beware. I ate here with my 2 nieces and my boyfriend on our trip up North. They loved their food. Unfortunately I am gluten free, and have Coeliac Disease. I not only asked if the food I was eating was Gluten Free but it was labelled Gluten Free. I felt safe. But within an hour I was violently ill. I am still recovering. It was the pistachio and pesto slice. <br/>I am extremely disappointed and very angry that this cafe didn't take more care.

Great food and service. Muffins were massive and tasted great. Perfect for two

Great Cafe But... Great cafe but that tall kid is a bit of a jockey.

Don't understand why people keep recommending this place to me. Ordered the eggs Benedict and my partner ordered scrambled eggs. The hollandaise was essentially just butter, not thick with the lemony tang that it should have. Bread was exceptionally average for a $17 meal. My partners scrambled eggs was unseasoned and actually tasted like nothing. Coffee was a little average too. For the hefty price tag, I would have expected better quality. I must say that the bacon they had was delicious. If you ever have to eat breakfast here maybe just ask for a huge plate of bacon.

I went early this year and had a decent cup of coffee, went back and it was disgusting! But not as bad as the service, such a cranky staff to be in Byron bay! Never ever coming back here!
MAC
The food and service here were just "okay". Greasy calamari. Very mediocre experience.
Gluten-freeMaster
Don't believe the gluten free.... Food tasted excellent, however some meals were improperly labelled as gluten free. I have a wheat allergy (celiac disease) and had great difficulty with some of the gluten free labelled meals.<br/><br/>Service was only mediocre as well.
Kaylah
The food is good, but the service is bad. We waited for ages at the counter and no one said anything to us, i then had to ask how long it would take to be seated. They definitly need new staff who smile and act like they want to be there. Everything else is good..
Brad
Overrated. We used to come here whenever we visited Byron and I cant remember why. Last time we came my lasagne tasted awful and was cold in the middle. Most of the food is so-so, some is pretty good. Ordinary coffee.
Food Glorious Food
Large large meals. Came here last year, and loved the baked tuna risotto... Still awesome!<br/>Tried something else as well, a massive cottage pie. Would hav even nice with a little more gravy. But overall good. Coffee was respectable not fantastic. It's a place where I would keep coming back to Everytime I come to Byron
BKJ
Great lunch. The wife had the Corn Fritters and I DEFINITELY had food envy. Great Place
Eager Eater
Go the mega muffins. We had morning tea twice here. Good coffee although not the best we had in Byron (Dip wins there), awesome muffins and array of morning tea treats. We did not eat breakfast there but the choices looked good.<br/><br/>Service was patchy - first visit efficient and kid friendly, second time the order seemed to get lost/ignored despite it not being that busy and needed some prompting to get it to the table.

Coffee was good, food was fresh and tasty, prices reasonable and service was very friendly and kind. One of the best cafes in Byron that would easily hold it's own in the cafe jungle of Melbourne
Trevorscottnz
Busy which is always a good sign. Extensive menu range, food tasty and well presented. A number of delightful specials. Baked French-Itallian lunch dishes the service was good. StaFf friendly. We enjoyed this cafe, will call again.
Flourish Fine Food
This is the kind of cafe I'd love to own. Simple, fresh and interesting food. Food that is committed to flavor and freshness while remaining committed to providing health fast food options that provide sustenance and joy. Makes me want to keep going back over and over again to try some of their interesting creations. Put it this way. They were advertising for a cook and explicitly stated that they wanted a creative person to contribute to their already great options. Will go back before I leave Byron for sure.

Busy buzz for a Monday morning. Giant home made cakes & a popular spot for breakfast it seems. We dropped in for a couple of takeaway coffees & were served straight away but service was slow. Looks to be a winner with the locals though!
