Review Bayleaf Cafe - Byron Bay

Michael McRoberts
Lovely breakfast spot, just a little on the pricey side. We stopped in for breakfast this morning and the food was lovely. We had a broad array of eggs on toast, each was pretty solid. The juice was a standout for me, but note it’s around $9. Service was really positive with very friendly staff. Coffee was nice as well. Overall a great experience, just at Byron Bay prices!!!

Can see why bay leaf cafe is one of the busiest and most popular in town with churning out tasty delicious food and service to match, coffee hits the spot. Not sure about serving half the avocado with the skin still on but hey good overall. Tad on the pricey side!

Two of us visited the cafe on a weekend and promptly got a table. The eggs were tasty but could do with some more flavor . The coconut brew was amazing. The coffee was fine. Service was fabulous. If you are in a big group, might have to wait for a table. Cafe is spacious and has a great menu. The restrooms are located at the back of the cafe.

One of the best breakfasts I’ve had in a while. If the sweet potato flatbread is on the menu, make sure you order it! I had mine with a side of their delicious feta (which I approve of as a Greek - that says something). Great coffee too and really friendly service.

Beautiful spot for some delicious breakfast!! I love the vibe in this place, the service is friendly and the food is yum!! The okonomiyaki was DE-LI-CIOUS, we had to wait a little bit because they were super busy but our food and drinks fixed everything!! 🤤 I'll definitely be back, thank you guys!!

Great service even during peak service hour. We were seated within 10min of waiting and ordered not long after we sat down. We had their signature scrambled eggs and ceviche nikkei. Both were delicious in their own right! I opted for ceviche as a light dairy free option and the scrambled eggs was obviously the more substantial option! I highly recommend this place and we would definitely return when passing through Byron again.

I visited this cafe for years ago during a trip to Byron and it's still there best in town! Best in class coffee, silky smooth scrambled eggs with feta and mint. Delicious chai that arrived looking so beautiful too. It's a local favourite with friendly, and attentive service.

Really lovely little cafe in Byron. It does get very busy so be prepared to wait. The sweet potato flatbread and scrambled eggs special was good
Karina Lee
The best breakfast! Outstanding service & the quality of the produce that ends up infront of you is to die for! Absolutely Amazing!!! (Greet and wait system when it was so busy was fantastic and the guy in charge of it was polite promt and exceptional at remembering all the faces and names!) It unbelievable how the food is kept at an unbelievable standard when the place is so busy!! Cheers for the best holiday breakfast! 🌻

A must visit if you're in Bryon Bay. Can highly highly recommend it, particularly the Matcha rice porridge, the Brekky bowl and the Dukka eggs. Friendly staff, amazing food, good coffee, and very accommodating for your special requests!
Jesse Gray
The mushroom dish was yummy but I got the vegan option! I think it's unfair that you don't get the cheese or egg and it's the same Price! Maybe to make it more interesting you could add some avocado or make the vegan option cheaper! The service was fast and food was still good!

Bayleaf is a waste of time. Waited for ages for a table. Waited even longer for our food to arrive - even though we had ordered immediately when a table was available. It is all about decoration and atmosphere, not food taste. I felt my food was prepared the night before as it was freezing and not worth the wait.

My first experience in Byron, I said to my wife this place has to be good as it was crowded on a Monday morning around 10am. Walked in and was seated under a minute, great timing between being given the menus and the time the waitress took our order for coffee and then asked if we wanted to order breakfast now or a little more time but we placed our food order. Max of 5 min for my coffee and an amazing berry smoothie for the wife, she ordered bana bread which was like a mini bana loaf with amazing cinnamon cream with strawberries and raspberries, I had poached eggs with bacon and avocado which for a simple order other places seem to fail miserably but could not fault it was great. We asked for a takeaway container for leftover bana bread which was promptly supplied. One of my most enjoyable breakfast experiences in a long time, keep up the good work guys!

I asked for the vegan option..but requested the eggs and chhese to be replaced with avocado. Got charged 4. It was basically a plate of kale. Would have been nice if they had added tomato or something..expensive leaf meal.
Hollis Nicole
Fantastic food, very flavourful and great quality. Service was fast even when it was full and the staff were awesome. Overall great experience, especially for the stomach. Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Definitely coming back again.

I didn't order food. I walked out after experiencing one of the rudest waiters i think i have ever come across. The waiter with the long blonde hair and foreign accent should try looking for a job in a different industry, clearly hospitality is not his calling in life. Byron Bay has so many other beautiful cafes with much better customer service, do not even bother going here.
Mickael Sydney
The best Coffee Shop in Byron without any doubt, food is amazing and service the best.
Linda Gallo
They refused to accommodate a minor dietary request last week (to omit one item). The reason being that it would affect the presentation of the meal. I privately messaged the cafe about it last week and they have not responded. Minor dietary needs and attending to customer concerns are not a priority. My friends and I were very disappointed and won't attend again.
Lindy McAllister
Mushrooms, mashy peas and eggs, unusual but delightfully delicious, great coffee, not to mention another handsome hippy waiter, a lovely casual place for an unforgettable brekky in Byron Bay.
Ginni Glyde
The coffee and hot beverages are top quality and delicious, the food is amazing and the service is great. This place is also dog friendly, so another big tick from us. We visit almost every day on our Byron hols, love it!
Mike Callan
Fantastic! Coffee was great and the food was amazing!! The pulled pork breakfast burrito was the best brekky I've had in ages!
Tony Mcshane
Lovely meals and atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Price of the hot chocolate is a bit steep but looks great.
Molly Lowe
The food here was bland and tasteless. Ordering the smashed avo I was disappointed as even the Vegemite salt did not add much flavour. For the amount we payed (extra for weekend and extra for tapping my card, which I was unaware of) we were very disappointed.
The staff were very friendly and the coffee was quite nice (yet exxy).
Overrated and overpriced unfortunately.

I came here for breakfast and had the falafel and eggs. The falafel definitely tasted like they had potato in them! Was more like a little fried spherical hash brown with herbs. Either way didn’t matter, as it was delicious. Heaps of fresh herbs on top. I also had the New Orleans iced coffee special which was lovely.
Kaisa Juopperi
In general, the cafe has a great vibe, good looking menu and awesome coffee. I visited the local on a very busy sunday, and waiting times were OK. What i did not find well, was that there were two different ingredients missing from my plate - which i unfortunately noticed first after leaving the place, my bad. No matter how busy day, it is not acceptable to forget main ingredients- we do pay a high price for the food (especially on weekends). It is chef's and waitresses responsibility to check the plates before they go out. I was also a bit surprised how the waitress reacted to my complain in a way like 'i am hope you enjoy your visit better next time'.

Would go there again for a coffee for sure.
Becboxa
The butterscotch latte was creamy and rich with great flavour. The addition of some candied ginger was divine. The seared tuna came with a burst of flavour from all the herbs and sauces. The buttermilk chicken was also delicious as they managed to create a light and flavourful noodle salad underneath. We were seated right next to the kitchen which allowed us to watch the chef at work. A very efficient working team that they have got there. The wait staff were also friendly and served with a smile. Only downfall is the place is very busy and you may end up sharing a table with other people which may make conversations limited.
SydVeFood
Good food, service and ambience, but probably a little over hyped and overpriced. I had the dukkah eggs, which were well presented and tasty. The coffee was great. The service was friendly and efficient, with was surprising given it was so busy. Worth a visit.
Casey
A fantastic place with a great, chilled vibe. Delicious food and a separate coffee menu! I had the breakfast greens and my friend had avo on toast with a poached egg. Both amazing! Will return!
Niveditha Vathsangam (Niv)
Ah-mazing coffee! Cute and homely ambience. Good food - the falafel is a must try for breakfast. Scrambled eggs were pretty good too. Really fast service and amazingly courteous staff. But coffee! 😍
Quince And Cheese
Extremely busy and a bit pretentious, but the food was well worth the very long wait. It was a novelty to sit out the front, cross-legged at a little floor table, while enjoying a super fresh and healthy fusion between bircher muesli and a green smoothie bowl. Meanwhile, my dining partner enjoyed super fluffy scrambled eggs on toast. Our coffees were also some of the best I've had in Byron.

The place is very cute, great decoration and vice, very friendly staff.
We had the thin crusted sweet potato with vegetables. Not sure what it was called exactly as the menu on Zomato is not updated. It was beautifully done, perfect flavours.
Also had the falafel with eggs which wasn't good at all unfortunately, the sauce and the Vegetables were great but the falafels were extremely dry and tasteless. Difficult to eat:
I hope they can do something about that because it's a great cafe and would be a shame to have costumers leaving unhappy.
I would still recommend the place though.
Yianna
Absolutely loved all the food and the coffee!
Cool vibe to the place. Often there’s a bit of a wait for a table, but that is just a testament to how good the food is. Great service too!
Tummy Buddy
Popular cafe near the Main Street with excellent coffee and a laidback atmosphere. The sweet potato flatbread was scrumptious. Would definitely go back to try other dishes on the menu.
Jovana Maksimovic
If you’re keen for good coffee, don’t come here. My cappuccino was very watery and could hardly taste any coffee. I also had the Bircher muesli for breakfast - it was okay. Not too sure why there’s such a big hype about this place, it’s just your average cafe. Also, the waitress basically tried to kick us out right after we finished our food and coffee - felt like we couldn’t just sit down for a while without ordering more.
Vanessa Harsic
Reviews seemed positive and place was busy thought to give this a try. Very disappointed. Staff were not friendly. After waiting for a table - the three of us were just squeezed onto one sharing with another couple, one of us sticking out onto the nature strip. Water is self service so kept going inside to refill from the tap. Coffee order was mixed up - I’m lactose intolerant and it required 3 staff to figure out which drink was for who. Food was also disappointing I ordered a sweet potato flat bread received a deep fried pancake drenched in oil. Will not recommend.
Daynzish
Love the vibe of this place!! Super friendly staff, amazing food quality and a very quick delivery of food to our table. It was great to experience food that was both healthy and delicious. I will definitely be returning!

My husband, myself and my 19 month old have eaten here every day for the last two weeks & every time we are happy and beyond satisfied. They bay leaf offer a great healthy menu with a fantastic spear for children with a kids platter of fresh daily fruit, coconut yogurt with berry could with homemade granola and homemade healthy banana bread! He loves it! My go to is always between the breakky greens and the scrambled special with chilli! Great service and good food but get in early if you want a table!
Chie Bourke
Went nice and early as this place gets super busy. The place has a great vibe too it. The food was very tasty, but I think the services was the best part - the staff were so lovely and friendly! ☺️
Fish
Happening little spot of the Main Street in Byron. Friendly staff, cool music and a great vibe. I used Bay Leaf as my office for the morning and the coffee was perfect, best I’ve had in Byron. You can tell the baristas know what they are doing!
The green breaky bowl was also tops. Kale, avo, nuts, seeds etc w poached eggs 👍🏼
Hard to fault
KayK
Innovative flavour combinations, creative presentations, clever dietary considerations and diligent customer service! There is nothing quite like this café.
Kololee
Excellent cafe with good coffee to start your day.

Brekkie was wonderful. The coffees we had (batch brew and piccolo) were wonderfully made as well.

Highly recommended.

I came for brunch here on Sunday morning. It was very busy and clearly popular with the locals as there was a 15-20 minute wait. However the staff recommended us to the cafe next door for a coffee while we wait, which we were allowed to bring with us when we were seated.
As for the food, it’s a little more on the pricier side and the menu here on Zomato is not the same as it is in the cafe. I had the sweet potato roti bread with vegetables. I absolutely loved the roti bread! However what I was not a fan off was the amount of oil my breakfast was covered in, parts of it were practically swimming which did take away from the whole experience alittle. The staff were nice but if your looking for a quite, relaxing brunch this is not ideal. Good vibes though.
Julian
Had breakfast here recently, the staff were super friendly, the decor was rustic and comfortable. The food was pretty good, nothing exceptional here but still worth a look!
Pinch Of Bacon
The chai latte is a thing of dreams - delicious. The service is a bit slow but this isn’t the city so why would we want to rush? The staff are lovely and the food is delicious. Well worth a visit. The significant downside is that they won’t exclude anything from the dish - even a simple dressing for food intolerances. Otherwise would have earned a rating of 4.

“Eat what ur given - even if it makes u sick!” is the mantra that this cafe follows along with an inflexible chef/ waitress.

My wife is allergic to Gluten and dairy. She’s 7 months pregnant as well. We requested that the “Falafel and eggs” GF dish be made minus the yoghurt sauce - the only 1 change so that my wife can eat that. But the waitress flatly refused and didn’t bother checking with the chef if the change change can be made and said this is “house policy” that no dishes can be changed. We are asking for an allergen ingredient to be removed and not addition of any new ingredients. But no sir, that’s not going to happen - Michelin star restaurants would change their signature dishes to suit their customers, but not this cafe by a side street.

Very bizarre - it’s just yoghurt sauce which can be removed from the dish as pretty sure neither the falafels or poached eggs are pre-made with yoghurt in it. There are other GF and Vegan dishes on the menu, but they didn’t look appealing.

The inflexibility and flat refusal led us to leave, hungry and sullen from what appeared to be an otherwise welcoming and homely cafe.

Lovely and cozy cafe situated on the quieter streets of Byron - away from the city hustle and bustle. The poached eggs with dukkah was the best among everything we had. The milkshakes were yummy too. The service and the ambience was good too. A must visit for all the mates who are visiting Byron!
Food - 4/5
Service - 4/5
Value for Money - 4/5
Ambience - 4/5

Friendly service, good food and coffee. Cool place to chill out. The falafel is surprisingly good, given it’s not a middle eastern restaurant! I would go with the falafel and eggs again

omGG this place is an absolute must in byron!!! i had the most amazing sweet potato flat bread vegan thing!! maybe it was a special item?? IF SO PLEASE BUT IT ON THE MENU!! 10/10 god, great place

We always eat here when we come to Byron and the food never disappoints. This places gets 5 stars for the food, there is a reason there is always a queue.

Came with a group for lunch on a Friday. The staff have a really chilled vibe and we're very friendly. I had the ginger beer (would've had the coffee but there's no skim milk). It was refreshing bit the flavour was quite subtle.
I had the dukkah poached eggs with heirloom tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and lavender honey. The eggs were poached perfectly and the tomatoes, vinegarette and honey worked well together.

Don’t think we ordered the right things from the menu. Both the mushroom eggs and the pork bun were subpar in flavour. Mushrooms were bland and the spelt loaf underneath was soaked in liquid, making it soggy :( The shredded pork seemed like it was frozen and then reheated. The other dishes from the menu seemed much better in hindsight! Service was friendly and we were seated within 10mins on a Saturday. Will be back to try some more on the menu!
MizTea_SydneyFoodCritiX
I absolutely loved my trip away and enjoy so many amazing cafes... I have a new level of love for poached eggs :) the service was fantastic and the dishes were presented so well. Worth every dollar :)
Jo Weier
Friendly and helpful staff, good portion sizes, fresh and tasty food. Definitely keen to go back again and try the other items on the menu. I enjoyed being able to see the food being plated up.
CK
Friendly and attentive staff, fabulous food and a great fit out with inside and outside dining. Definitely worth a visit and I’ll be back for sure!
Pari
Delicious food you can opt for breakfast or lunch, tried a few dishes on the menu, all of them were just too good!!! A must visit👌🏻 Loved the ambience and the friendly staff too. But Food takes the priority💪🏻
Jalena
Average food and very average coffee. Staff didn’t seem to care or give you any hint of friendly service when taking your order or handing you your food. Nice place for a quick coffee but I won’t be returning any time soon.
Rebecca
The service was great and the food was excellent. We ordered the brown rice salad with tuna and the falafel + harissa eggs. Would definitely come here again!
Chantelle Hiley
I came here for Sunday lunch with my girlfriend. We had to get our orders in quick because the kitchen was closing at 2pm. I really enjoyed my sweet potato bread and vegetables- I like seeing new things on a menu which I haven't heard of before:)
RH
Amazing ! We have had breakfast at pretty much every cafe in Byron and this is the best. We went early - like 7:30am on a rainy cooler day and couldn't of picked a better time. Table straight away, really good service, food came out quick. A few hours later and I'm sure it would be way too busy - so try get in early! We had the breakfast burrito, dukkah eggs and granola. Couldn't fault any of the dishes like at all! Highly recommend

This is a very popular place, and rightly so. Be prepared to wait quite a while for a seat. Staff are lovely. Food is fantastic - the dukkah poached eggs are both Insta worthy and absolutely delicious. Only down side was that they had run out of the Be Still Lauren ceramics which we had been hoping to buy - maybe next time!
Jess Guscott
This is a fantastic spot for breakfast. We had to wait 10 minutes for a table but they are conveniently located next to a takeaway coffee shop that is affiliated with them so we waited there. We were given a free brownie while we waited and then when it came to our breakfasts they were a decent size and so tasty. We got a scrambled eggs that was much more then a simple scramble. Very tasty!
Augustina
Delicious food, full of flavour, creative dishes. Music slightly too loud, mistake at till quickly corrected. All forgiven because of the food.
Kieran Johnson
We waited for a table and were then squished onto a table with other couples and waited an hour to find out our order had been forgotten about by staff who didn't care. Would not recommend

This place is always on our stop in Byron Bay! Amazing coffee and food. Great ambience. Gets real busy during peak times but definitely worth the wait.
Nga Le
Plenty of seating but gets busy during peak hour. Staff are nice. Food size are generous and fresh. Have not been disappointed yet. They have a range of coffee even for the coffee snobs.
Izzy Osowicki
Great tasty creative food. Generous portions, ever expanding, full of local young people and not cheap. All done with open smiles.
( Ignore this sentence as it is a fill in to reach 140 characters)

Wanted to try the breakfast menu due to reviews on here.

We had the pick of a few tables and service straight away. We ordered a specialty coffee and were recommended a different one by the waitress. Very smooth and quite a unique flavour. Nice to try something different.

I had the 'scrambled special' with bacon on the side. It came out looking like a work of art. It was delicious it had dill and chilli feta and salsa verde with avocado and sourdough. I was in heaven. The flavours worked so well together.

Bryce Stroud had the 'dukkah poached eggs' also looked amazing, I tasted the feta and lavender honey and some of the heirloom tomatoes and it was delicious.

The food looked amazing tasted amazing, the restaurant itself was sooo stylish and the service was great. I definitely recommend.

Food&Wine&GoodTimes
The best little vibe with such a great set up. Food was simple but tasty, Harry the host was super friendly and welcoming. Everything came out promptly and presented beautifully. Only reason it's a four and not a five was because the waitress who served us wasn't the friendliest, but still a great experience.
Jessica
Nice place and food was good but nothing amazing. Could've been made at home. Service definitely could be improved upon. But all in all, it does the job.
Debby Palti
Food was good but the lack of making a small omission to a dish, which was a garnish, because they were busy, did not make this place somewhere I would go again. Shame really.
Adam Newton
An excellent breakfast option. Food is great quality with fresh and healthy menus options executed very well. Good for kids too but no high chairs. Coffee is also great.
Denny Patron
Spot on cafe! Was very busy but didn't have to wait long at all. Service was friendly and quick as well. Food was really good, scrambled eggs pretty good but with a side of pulled pork which was amazing! Avo on toast also good, coffees awesome!
Birdman
Always a good sign when a place is pumping at 8.30am in the morning. Quick 10 minute wait for a table and away we were. I had the normal scrambled eggs with a side of pulled pork. The scrambleds were good but not great, they needed a bit more flavour and could have been a bit bigger but the pulled pork was excellent. Very good joint and would highly recommend.
Sweetlikesugar
Came here this morning around 9am, we waited about 10-15mins for a table, it was busy as expected. The guy doing the list was managing it superbly and was super friendly!
I ordered the Dukkah eggs with Buffalo Mozzarella and heirloom tomatoes. My husband ordered scrambled eggs with pulled pork. Our orders were delicious and the wait time for them was fair, considering the place was pumping out orders. While we were waiting I was watching the kitchen staff, it was nice to see them totally under control all with smiles on there faces, even with how busy they were - it all worked like clockwork.
I'll definitely come back to have a coffee next time, as I've been told it's extremely good - gave it a miss today as milk and a slight hangover don't go hand and hand for me.
Zomatoaddict
Must say was the quickest service I experienced in Byron Bay! Pretty dishes and delicious 😋 very interesting menu and good quality coffee! Get there early to enjoy your time

Came here for breakfast based on online reviews. Had to line up to be seated but the waitress did a fantastic job of finding seats for everyone.
Both menus uploaded here are out of date, with a much more extensive menu currently available.
We ordered the pork bun and scrambled special. Both were delicious and good portion sizes. For drinks we ordered an iced mocha with no ice cream and a coconut cream iced coffee. The mocha was perfection. The coconut cream ice coffee was a bit too sweet for me... but that comes with the territory and I was still glad I ordered it.
I will 100% come back here - the service was absolutely excellent, the food was delicious and the range of coffee options was amazing. Loved it.
Jo Davie
Excellent cafe with great menu and elaborate coffee. The waiters are good looking, efficient and full of attitude. The breakfast dishes are some of the prettiest versions of cafe classics you are likely to find. Serious chunky sourdough and plenty of greenery on the plate to help you feel ok about scoffing the lot.
Baked mushrooms with poached eggs, kale, pecorino and mint and pea purée was a winning start to the day.
Sam
What an amazing cafe! Iced Filter Coffee was so delicious and service was great. The highlight was the Socco; an italian chickpea crepe with heaps of kale, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, quinoa, and salsa verde and mushrooms. Definitely the best lunch we had in Byron. Highly recommended!
Kate
Delicious food and coffee. I had the special scrambled eggs with chilli and fetta and it was amazing! I will definitely be going back to try the other things on the menu. My partner had the pork bun and he also said it was delicious. Highly recommend this cafe.
Jade Markovska
Excellent food! Yum coffee. Long wait though and very hot inside. Also if you're seated near the side windows, there are garbage dumpsters next to the windows and the smell will waft in while you eat. I had the chilli scrambled eggs. Very nice indeed. Standard pricing for brunch.
Facebook User
Great food and coffee. Atmosphere is very nice, good decoration and great music. Service was very friendly but not as attentive as I'd like.
Anna
Fantastic food and friendly staff. Shame about the 45 min wait for food! Vegan mushrooms on toast made up for the wait. The coconut cold brew coffee was delicious.
Jess Melbourne
This place is magnificent. Busy yet calm and excellent service. Despite it being ultra cool, none of the staff are pretentious, rather friendly and good at their job. Our waiter was so keen for my husband to try a spritzer coffee they had on the specials menu, he brought him a mini one to have along side his ice coconut coffee. The food is outstanding, fresh, large servings, healthy and awesome combos. They even brought out crusty bread for our toddler to chew on, and danced with him to some sick beats they had playing (wu tang made an appearance) We waited about 10 minutes for a table, which was exactly what the staff told us. Even if you have to wait for a table, do it. Interesting twists of coffee and teas, killer food and great service. Best place in Byron
Evan James
Great food, sweet tunes, very chilled and awesome staff. The Avo on toast is brilliant, the feta with dill and chili is a great accompaniment and the scrabbled eggs knocks it out of the park.
Only down side is the wait can be a bit of a killer.

Bonus insiders tip: If you want to get a seat quicker tell the waiter your name is Jesse!
Igor
You can tell the guys are passionate about blending the local best quality ingredients and inspiration from abroad. The little dish I had was very different Italian style savoury chickpea crepe with owner of greens above - Delicious!
Coffee is another story... also a good one! Stuck to my trusty cap, was not disappointed. Need to go back for cold press coconut infused speciality.
Service was great mix of Byron chill and professionalism.
Can't wait to go back
Andrey Fedoseev
Too pretentious, not flexible. Was ripped off and did not get any discount for the order being messed up and having to wait for 40 minutes for my meal.
Josh Beaumont
Not sure why this place is hyped up so much, slowest service I've received at any cafe. took over half an hour for drinks to arrive and then another half hour for the food.. was expecting something good after the wait but was disappointed with the scrambled eggs and didn't finish it. Wont be coming back here.
LittleMissPiggy
Absolutely delicious! Went to Byron for a day trip and this seemed the go to cafe! Ultra trendy, lots of tables, no waiting for a table, and super friendly and helpful staff. Everything reasonably priced and super tasty! Would definitely go back
Kevin Kwok
One of the best cafes I've ever been to. Relaxed Byron trendy vibe without being pretentious and incredible food. Great twists on classics and they put together healthy, hearty flavours that work well. I had the mushroom toast which has local field mushrooms, raw kale, black beans, pea puree and shaved manchego cheese on sourdough. Mushrooms were earthy, moist, cooked simply and cut in large halfs so you really taste the flavour of the mushroom. Pea puree and beans provide a different texture and the flavours together with the cheese, poached eggs and fresh kale. Eggs could have been a little runnier but probably due to me going to the car to add money. Coconut cold brew coffee was delicious and great alternative to using dairy. Relaxed comfortable service and the staff knew the menu. Great portion size too, in Sydney places that look like this leave me hungry! Highly recommended.

Devine. Everything about it. The people, the setting, the service, the food, the atmosphere, the drinks, the muffins, the options... will definitely be back.
Nom Nom Nom
Amazing, heathy, fresh breakfast! I had the mushroom breakfast and my husband had the scrambled eggs- both were very yummy! Eggs were cooked to perfection!
Coffee was good too :)
Ihoward
Stopped here for some brunch after a long walk to the lighthouse and back. Service was quick and friendly. Ordered the hibiscus iced tea and ginger beer, which were refreshing but small with a lot of the ice for the price you paid. I had the Portuguese chicken, full of flavour but slightly dry. Needed some avocado with it. My partner had the berry smoothie and scrambled eggs which he really enjoyed. Overall one of the best brunches we've had in a while!
Valentina
Delicious. We only waited for 10 minutes for seat but well worth it. We each ordered the egg on sourdough and bacon. Well cooked, tasty, seasoned well, ample amount. One thing I noticed and mentioned to the staff is they all are such hard workers. They are friendly and made the experience very enjoyable. Highly recommended😁
Catherine MacLean
Really great vibe going on with the staff super happy and helpful. The menu is varied with a range of unique options. I went for the Socca with grilled asparagus which was delicious, although not as filling as I would have hoped. Would go back to try more from their menu.
Madamcafebeing
Having visited Byron Bay a few times over the years - this place is still a stand out cafe. Does get very busy though! Great menu choices, great coffee, great vibe! He likes pancakes and they don't do them anymore so he was a little disappointed. Can't say it worries me. I had the quinoa coconut porridge and he went for poached eggs on sourdough. We both loved our breakfast!
Anthony
Had a great breakfast at the Bay Leaf while sitting by the sidewalk on a sunny morning. The service was prompt and coffee arrived equally promptly. We enjoyed the coffees. Breakfast was scrambled eggs, with feta, chilli oil, avocado and sour dough bread. A filling dish that also tasted great. Recommended.
Giorgia
I adore this place. Specialty coffee & food alike. Wholesome, healthy, so so tasty. Bayleaf ALWAYS delievers on every visit to Byron.
The service is excellent as well- all team knowledgable & hospitable to dietary requirements.
Sully
Great coffee! Thick slices of fruit toast you can barely cut. Piles of butter and fresh home made marmalade. The type your granny made - more citrus than sugar. Set in a quieter part of the Bay - just the ticket. Happy grazing.
HungrYMami
The wholesome breakkie we needed before a long drive home. We enjoyed some of fresh, quality eggs, avo and has Browns along with some soulful blues.
Tom Smith
Best breakfast place. Food is fresh and so delicious. The breakfast burrito was amazing. Nice staff good vibe and everything we had over a couple of days eating here was fantastic. Enjoy!
Sarah Mc
This place can do no wrong. You'll find so many amazing reviews out there and it's no wonder why. The vibe, the food, the service and the coffee are all perfection. Enjoy!
Phillipa
2 orders of chilli scrambled and coffee = great way to start a Byron day. Cool cafe, lots of locals which is always a great sign! Breaky was substantial but fresh and light. Will be back.
Alicia
What a great place to watch the world go by and indulge in delicious fresh food! We visited for breakfast, the place was busy but service warm and friendly. You don't have to wait long for a seat! I ordered the Scrambled special with chilli and avo, feta and greens. Just sublime! Coffee is top notch. You'll want to go back again and again!
Sparkleandfood
The best cold pressed juices you'll have. Delicious healthy options. Cool relaxed vibe famous for Breaky but had a great unique lamb and kale salad for lunch. Next door is leaf and grain which does takeaway coffee, bakery treats, Breaky burger juices etc. We tried lots of other breakfast places in Byron that had great reviews but bay leaf by far the best!!! Could go here everyday and not get bored.

The Breakfast Burrito is just "the best welcome to Byron meal" i had. The explosion of beautiful flavours. Been to numerous places around the area to try different cuisines, but this one's been highly recommended.

Me and my partne been here for straight consecutive 3 days of brunches! All worth it🙌👌👍

By far the best place in Byron Bay for breakfast. Ate here 5 days of our 8 day stay. I wish they had a Bayleaf in Melbourne, can't wait to get back there.

Amazingly diverse menu and everything we had (Japanese hand rolls on coconut scrambled eggs, dukkah poached eggs, and the kids platter of banana bread plus fruit and yoghurt) was divine and left us wanting to try everything else. The coffee was creamy and delicious. The service was friendly, accommodating and polite. And the setting was great. Definitely recommended. And we'll be back, possibly even tomorrow.

Tasty food, good coffee but design of place has huge hot kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. Far too hot mid summer - complete sweat box, very busy so service poor. Food delicious but not thought out well - huge toast uncuttable and makes a frustrating foray trying to eat on the trendy small plates with edges raised high like bowls. Average

Everything I've had here has been delicious, especially the chilli scrambled eggs and the green salad with poached egg and pine nuts. The coffee and juices are great as well. Service can sometimes be a bit slow when it's busy but overall it's pretty good. The outside tables are optimal for people-watching in Byron too.

I recently visited Byron Bay with two of my sisters and one of my girlfriends! There were so many places we wanted to try and Bay Leaf was one of them. We went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. There were four of us and we only had to wait a moment for a table. It's a quirky cafe with a really chilled vibe. There were so many yummy things on the menu so it was hard to choose what to order! I went with the green scrambled eggs and an iced coconut coffee. I was so happy with my choices and the girls were happy with theirs too. I would definitely return here on my next visit to Byron Bay!

Came here when the kitchen was closing in the next 10 minutes but the staff were all still quite friendly about it. Didn't wait long for meals and the avocado on toast comes with a half an avocado with nothing added which personally I think is the way any avocado should come out on to the table unless stated otherwise on the menu. No avo purée thank you. Also unbuttered sour dough which I loved as I always forget to asked for unbuttered toast. Fellow diners had the pulled pork burger and greens bowl with egg. Heard the pulled pork burger was delicious and the greens bowl looked really good. There were several fruit juices that were ordered that I also heard were really tasty also.

Food is good (I had the avo on sourdough with poached egg). Service from male waiters is definitely not. When the two of us arrived I asked where is best to sit to be warm and the male waiter responded with "well you guys have way less clothing on than me..." - which for starters is an odd/creepy response, but actually didn't answer my question. Anyway once we seated ourselves, we were served and we ate our meals. All good. As we left we went to pay and a waiter greeted us as if we were about to pay and then he walked off to take meals out and serve other customers. He walked past us about 4 more times, ignoring us as we wondered what was going on/how we were supposed to pay and whether we should just walk out... Really don't think they would've noticed, seems like they were all on something. Won't be rushing back.
Oh they also charge 10% on Sunday's... The best day of the week to brunch... Who does that!

Was recommended to give this place a go & after reading all these amazing reviews it seemed like a "must" try...
Waited for a table, which is all good. Was told to go over to a particular dirty table once a party of 4 had left. 2 staff members came to the table both wiped it down only for it still to be dirty. Ordered a Pink juice, it comes out, tasting so watery & filled with chia inside, no mention of chia on the menu, I ask the waiter, oh we have changed it sorry do you still want it?
You have to go up and get your own water glasses & water. The glasses were disgusting... The were dirty inside & out and smelt of egg.
Ordered the "Socca" chickpea crepe with veggies. So disappointing, What a boring, tasteless, lifeless, looking dish. The veggies had no seasoning, no flavour, the chickpea cake was so bland, it had no salsa verde on it, I was really blown away at how bad it was. The breakfast dish was served on a chopping board, it wasn't sealed, not in a new looking condition, put me off. Asked for the bill, they tried charging us for a coffee and toast that wasn't even ours, lucky I checked. Staff are friendly, just need to be more on attentive. The menu sounds great, maybe I ordered the wrong thing but the rest put me off.

This place is just off the charts good. Amazing cafe...healthy and really creative breakfast, delicious fresh ingredients, nice staff, great vibe. When we're not in Byron we talk about when we can go back to go to Bay Leaf!

The menu is so creative and different it's worth a visit! Everything was generously portioned with lots of unique flavour combinations. It is busy and service takes time but it's worth it!

This place is just fabulous and reminded me a lot of the Melbourne cafes that u love. It was so good in fact that we had breakfast there 3 times during our 6 day visit! The service is super prompt and efficient, and although it always seemed packed we never waited more than about 5 mins for a table. The special scrambled eggs were freaking delicious as was the banana bread and the breakfast burrito (lots of visits means I tried lots of things!) Fab coffee too. My only gripe is no bottles of water on the table so every time you want a top up you have to go and do it yourself - which was very often as the drinking cups they give you and minuscule (giving them the benefit of the doubt here - maybe they're worried about a drought?!) This place should be top of the "to visit" list for anyone in Byron :)

Gave this place a couple of chances but it didn't really help. Although the food is good, the "service", ambience and prices aren't.

Service is very average and the attitude from most of the staff stinks (when you actually get any).

Tipping point for me was take away coffees that were tiny, (their small size is like a piccolo anywhere else) it was weak and cost was $9.90 for two!

Came along at 11:30am for brunch on a Thursday. It was quite full, but just as we arrived a table became free and we were seated.

We ordered drinks and eats not long afterwards and coffee and milkshakes followed before too long. If you expect the speed of a busy and efficient city cafe you may become frustrated. Chill out and relax, you're on Byron time here. My affogato was delicious and refreshing.

Our meals were all very tasty - the pick was the 'Breakfast Burritto'.

Very friendly and charming service, lovely ambience and good coffee.

Best place for brekkie/lunch in Byron. Food presentation was great, and very tasty. Only problem with food was choosing what to eat!! I went during splendour so there were tons of people, but we didn't have to wait long for a seat or food. The drinks were a bit slow to come out however as the barista took a bit too long to make each drink during the busy peak. Overall, was a great experience and definitely coming back in a quieter time.

Good service. Large servings. Coffee was disappointing. Urban Bourgeoise Hipster Ville to the max; kale and many other super foods. Fresh juices too.

We visited the Bayleaf on the first morning of our arrival in Byron Bay for a weeks holiday. So impressed by the great food, coffee and service that we visited again on our final day.
Both times we enjoyed a delicious brunch.
The best scrambled eggs I've tasted along with bacon, half an avocado and a side of their greens. Wow! This food hits the spot and the coffee was perfect. Daniel the owner and his staff were very attentive and really engaging in conversation. We were really impressed with his philosophy on food and his goals for making it even better. This is a must visit stop in Byron and the prices are very fair for the great quality of food.
