Review The Mez Club - Byron Bay

Jamie Lollback
Amazing atmosphere, perfect for winter. The fire place was such a great feature. The food is absolutely designed to share, and we couldn’t believe how fast the food and drinks came out. Delicious food and drinks, and attentive staff. Zero faults or issues. Very glad we chose the Mez Club. Being asked to tip at the end was a little awkward, but we just weren’t used to that. Well done. We will be back!

I have dined here twice and loved everything about both experiences. The decor is beautiful, contributing to the experience. The staff were friendly, they gave great recommendations on food also - honestly everything is worth trying and portions are to be shared. We celebrated a birthday here and were able to organise a dessert and round of drinks for that. Will continue to dine here when I visit Byron. Highly recommend.

Beautiful setting. Outstanding food. Every single meal was delicious. You must ensure this restaurant is on your list of places to eat when visiting Byron!!

Pick this restaurant randomly but was amazed by the food and ambience. Ordered 6 dishes in total and every single one of them is tasty, especially the oysters and burrata. Will come back to Byron Bay just for this restaurant

Great food, great cocktails, great vibe! I wasn't expecting the food to be so good, best Kingfish civeche and burrata we've had in Byron (and we've tried it everywhere), also had the potatoes and a beetrootstyle dip with freshly made pita bread. All the staff were lovely and the ambience was perfect for a romantic summer night date.

We hosted our wedding welcome party at The Mez Club last week and what an experience! With only two days notice, Rob and Elena went so far out of their way to assist with our booking (which doubled in size on the day). The whole evening was an experience that our friends and family loved. The food is out of this world, catering for dietary requirements and there was plenty of food to go around. The venue is stunning, with beautiful decor. Wonderful staff and service, outstanding food. We would highly recommend The Mez Club. 5 stars + ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trying this place for the first time I was expecting a much better experience. Firstly we had dirty glasses with lipstick stains on many of them and inspecting the others they were not polished (only expecting this due to the avg price of the menu). Secondly the food was mediocre at best, I do recommend the Beef Tartare, Beef Short Rib, and the cocktails. Lastly the pricing $$$, this was a big thing for me. If dishes are ranging between $25-$30 and have small portions, they should be packed with flavour. The main focus was the presentation, whilst lacking strong flavour. Service was nice and friendly. Overall, I would just recommend the 2 beef dishes and the cocktails. This place is a nice social setting with friends.

We enjoyed an array of share plates between four; smalls (oysters, artichoke dip, kingfish, bread), bigs (halloumi, lamb, potato, burrata) and sweets (churros, cocktails). We enjoyed the food, particularly the flavours in the mains. My favourite cocktail was the ink gin! Definitely a great experience with friends. Our only qualm was the service was disappointing and misleading, our waiter brought over an arrival shot without our consent which we were charged for… later when he did shots with us he also charged us for the shot he had with us…

Wonderful food, sensational staff who just couldn't do enough for us. A bit noisy, but such a great vibe it doesn't matter! Definitely will be back and recommend to friends.

Currently sitting in this restaurant, shittest service ever. Took ages for them to acknowledge we were waiting to be seated even though we made eye contact with them. Had to hail them down to order.. foods taking so long I'm about to eat the table, 50 mins so far.. our water hasn't even come yet, so thirsty about to get it myself. Have been sitting here for about hour so far and the food just came out, but missing one, and they didn't even notice they forgot one. Worst staff ever, shit service. Good was good, that's the only star..

We arrived here on a busy night in the middle of school holidays. The service was a little slow and the music a bit loud inside but who cares. This place is buzzing. The atmosphere is fabulous, as is the food, the cocktails and the lovely staff. The slower the service the longer we could stay and relax. This is Byron after all. Perfect.

This place made our weekend! Seriously great cocktails and delicious food. Unpretentious, mixed crowd, fabulous atmosphere and friendly staff. Well worth a visit.

We had a ladies night at The Mez. A group of 12 ladies. We had an amazing table upstairs with an amazing atmosphere. The staff were very accommodating and looked after us. The food was absolutely delicious and the cocktails were great too. We all felt that it was reasonably priced as well. Would highly recommend.

Thank you so much for helping me organise a very last minute christmas party! Annie, Tbow and Julian were all amazing and I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough :) Very efficient, friendly and welcoming staff with lovely atmosphere! We will be back :)

I lost number of times I’ve been there now but I can tell how good were my experiences there in all my visits. The space and atmosphere is other level, and the cocktails and food are fantastic (Espresso Martini is unbelievable). Favourite stop for happy hour or any fun with my friends. The staff is really helpful and friendly as well - special thumbs up for Antonie who helped me and my big group on our last visit during all the evening! Highly recommend The Souk area! Thank you legends.

Went to The Mez Club on Friday night. WOW! Gorgeous venue, amazing service and the menu was delicious. We had a lovely waitress that made the whole experience even better. Loved it and will 100% go back the next time we’re in Byron.

Fabulous spot. Amazing cocktails, delicious food (mostly small plates but lots of options), & even better service. Highly recommend if you're in Byron.

Beautiful looking restaurant, attentive and friendly staff, perfect location but the food was nothing exciting...Tiny portions with steep prices. Hubby and I shared a few small platters. The haloumi was covered in a sickly sweet syrup and the calamari although cooked perfectly was covered in way too much batter so it wasn’t pleasant. Unfortunately I don’t think I would return.

Such a dreamy space, with styling to die for!!! Cocktails were AMAZING and very affordable! Could have easily sat there all night long. Without a doubt will be back when next in Byron

Long wait but worth it,the food was delicious.A must if your visiting Byron.

Good food, good atmosphere but music was just full on LOUD. Like to the point you cannot speak to the person next to you and we arrived at 5.30pm on a Saturday and were out by 7.30pm... also as soon as the restaurant was full it was extremely hard to get the wait staff's attention. Our table and two others gave up and ended up blocking the entrance in an effort to pay which wouldn't have happened had we been given the bill at the table.

Great atmosphere and decor, excellent cocktails 🍹 friendly staff! We will be back to try the food in November 😁

Such a nice place to spend a couple of hours. Lovely food and drink. Can't wait to go back when we are down for a few days in a couple of weeks.

Cocktails are great! Food always looks nice. Good atmosphere.

Very nice decor. Fun kind of treehouse feel. We booked a table for 6 and were squished on to a small table. We requested a larger table when available and was only met after having a few more guests come through.

Service is extremely slow. You need to order once you get there or you won’t eat for a few hours (ordered at least 6 drinks before any food came out)

Would visit again but would recommend ordering asap, and requesting a booth for large groups.

The Mez Club has a great ambience and fit out. All the staff are super friendly and attentive. The chickpeas four ways was delicious! The other dishes we ordered were pretty good too.

You have to give The Mez Club credit for beautiful ambience. I feel transported to the Mediterranean just by walking into it. It has the added bonus of a late night happy hour, with real drinks, not watered down cocktails. So it is a real shame not the same effort was put into the food. The menu looks fine, but the flavours were lacking. Let me be clear that the food is not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but not wow. In fact because I was wowed by the ambience and the cocktail and to a smaller extent by the lovely attentive service, the food was a let down.
FOODIE ADVENTURE
I love the Mez Club. I know it gets super busy and it can be annoying to get a table at times but with the mez club l don't mind. I love the whole vibe at this place. The drinks are great and so is the food. If you can't get a table, they take your details and message you when your table is ready. Service is great too.

Great little hidden gem in Byron! Our second fave so far. Food is terrific just by itself, plus price is very reasonable compared to other places in town. The internal decor is also quite enjoyable.
Overall, will def return for both food and ambience.

A beautiful place to end our last night in Byron. The main strip was packed with diners and it was hard to get a table for 2. We ended up at the Mez Club where the vibe was more chilled and not over packed (hot tip on Thur/Fri/Sat nights). The food was delicious and defiantly what we were after - grazing. A standard sized menu of options but I suggest getting things to share!

Great Venue, Great Staff and Great Food.

The Mez Club is a little gem in the centre of Byron Bay that offers tasty, well priced food and drinks in a beautifully aesthetic space. The staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is great. The venue is well designed for events with its upstairs space to even something more low key with its downstairs dining area. I would definitely recommend visiting The Mez Club on your next visit to Byron Bay.

Has such a great vibe and decor. Staff are lovely and food tastes amazing however, quite small servings for the price! Cocktails are amazing and have such a large variety!

Place looks awesome and has a nice feel. Food is good, not great. Staff are friendly BUT service is affected by fact bar staff are too busy making cocktails that even standard drinks take forever to come to table. 15m for a glass of white wine and a beer, not acceptable. Music was horrendous and waaaay off target market/clientele. Sack the DJ and get more bar staff and would maybe go back, maybe.
Julian
Had the haloumi sticks, and sweet potato fries here tonight and a strawberry and passion fruit mohito, the food came out quickly, the quality was high, but it was pretty expensive, but it’s that kinda place.. definitely worth a look food and drink wise if you can afford it. Also attentive and friendly staff!

Haven’t eaten here but the service and the drinks are absolutely delicious! I’ve had many great cocktails in Melbourne but those espresso martini’s are soooo good 😍 they come with this salted caramel and sugar rim which is to die for. Happy hour after 9pm for $14! Couldn’t recommend this place more! Very classy and amazing music for Byron bay as well! Yum! Will come here for the rest of our holidays for sure! Thanks to the team of the Mez club!

Delicious and light meal. Perfect for big or small groups. Staff were lovely and very accommodating in that they were willing to open the upstairs area that was going to be closed for the night in order to make room for my group or 7. Highly recommend.

We ordered three entrees (3 for $38), plus the tzatziki and warm pita bread. They brought all four dishes out at the same time, and they barely fit on the tiny table they had put us on. I had to ask them to take away the cutlery box to try and make some room, and spent the rest of the night worrying about accidentally knocking something off. The green bean and roast pumpkin salad, and crispy Cypriot haloumi dishes were nice enough. We could have done without the tzatziki (runny) and pita (bit tough). The Portabello Roast Mushroom was scrumptious and definitely recommended. The wait staff didn’t clear any dishes from our tiny table, until after we had finished all of them, and they also left behind the dirty serviettes. Don’t bother with the mocktails, they’re nothing special. For dessert we had the sweet mezze selection for 1-2 people, which was decent. The food is good value for money, but the service and set up could do with a bit of improvement.

Absolutely delicious food and great service. Everything we ordered was amazing! We had the lemon chicken kebab and the haloumi kebab which melted in our mouths. Our son, the picky eater, raved about his chicken wings. We couldn't fault The Mez Club.

This is my favourite place in Byron 🙌🏼 the decor gives off Mediterranean vibes it feels like you're on the other side of the world. The service is great and the menu gives you plenty of options I also love that everything is made to be shared with friends!

Great food and vibe. Had three entrees; peppers, mushroom and wings in order of tastiness. The trio of meats were slightly over cooked, but tasted great. Desert, must get the Mez selection and fight for that Turkish delight.

The atmosphere in this place was perfect for a drink & dinner after a long day in the sun. The decor is beautiful, but the food was even better. Possibly the best chicken I've ever eaten. The cocktails were a huge hit with us too!

The Mez Club is located in the heart of Byron just down from Bay Leaf. It's the kind of place you can go for a meal with a partner or a quick drink or to share some snacks with friends. We were lucky to get in straight away the night we went but we had heard it can get busy. The food is so delicious, think Lebanese/mezze/moroccan. We ordered 3 sharing plates and a main of a chicken kebab for two of us. The falafels were so tasty, crispy and light with a full flavoured falafel mix. The haloumi was also good as was the calamari. The chicken kebab was a generous size with large pieces of meat served with a Moroccan salad. My husband also wanted the sweet potato fries which were crunchy and topped with some feta. We were so full we couldn't have eaten anything else. They have a great cocktail menu and drinks are very reasonably priced. The staff were attentive without being overbearing. I would go back for sure if I was in town again.

Great food and fabulous mojitos but patchy service. If you are happy to forgive a lack of attention from the staff - who are at least polite, just a bit lax - it's worth a visit because the food is delicious.

So happy to have discovered this place! The interior feels like you've stepped off onto a Greek Island. Real attention to detail makes for a a lovely place to spend a warm evening in Byron. Happy Hour cocktails were fantastic; Purple G&Ts, and Turkish Princess! Mezze Bowl and Jalapeño Poppers were great, but the real highlight was the Vegetarian Moussaka, served in half a grilled eggplant. Would definitely recommend if you're in Byron!

We came in for a drink and tapas. We had cocktails while we waited for the kitchen to open at 5. The Turkish Princess is a unique delight and definitely worth a try. The decor and ambiance is great though the music could be a little intrusive in volume and selection at times, but no biggie. The Tapas selection was good, and food quality was excellent. But I have to agree with others comments that the servings sizes of some items were a bit small... tapas is a share plate so if you're going to charge $14.00 for some jalapeño poppers would it real kill you to chuck 4 chillies on a plate rather than 3? At least you aren't fighting with your partner over who gets the extra popper. Minor gripe tho compared to the real let down which was the service. Whilst friendly and laid back, it was difficult to get the attention of staff who honestly looked more interested in socialising. We struggled to get place an order for a second drink even with empty glasses sitting on our table for a good 10 minutes whilst at one point we had two waitresses 10 feet away chatting and laughing with some (I presume) locals. Once we did get an order in, the drinks and food arrived promptly, but we were then inundated with 3 different wait staff trying to clear plates while we were still eating. The first two we managed to waive off because at least they asked before removing plates, the third succeeded by simply swooping in and dumping a plate on her tray without a word or before we could object. Would have rated this place higher but for the clumsy inattentive service.

All I can say is YUM! We got here around 7pm thinking the 4 of us would be in for a looonngg wait but we only had to wait 30mins for a table so perched ourselves at the bar and ordered some drinks. The Margarita (classic and coconut) were delicious. The restaurant is beautifully set out with mostly neutral tones with a winding stair case up to the top floor where we saw more diners. It was quite a balmy night so were relieved to be seated on a high top table outside. To get our night going we ordered most of the Mezze options on the menu. We loved the dips and blue tortilla chips, the chicken wings were delicious, Octopus salad with chorizo was quite tangy which was nice to freshen up the palette, lamb koftes, gah we got a few others things but I can't remember but it was all so yum and cannot wait to return!

The service was excellent and ambiance was impressive at the Mez Club. The food was extremely tasty however the portions were a tad small for my liking considering the price making me think think twice before returning. A 10% surcharge for weekends also did not help with this. I tried the Turkish Princess cocktail and was pleasantly surprised! Would definitely come back and take advantage of happy hour and great atmosphere! Would recommend coming for a drink and small nibble (the rosemary pita was delicious!).

The Mez Club stylish new restaurant/bar in Byron Bay serving up delicious food with a Mediterranean twist. The interior was stunning, mainly white, very cool. I especially loved the beautiful tree shooting straight through the ceiling. Brilliant touch. A couple of friends and I took advantage of the happy hour cocktails. My mojito ($12) was great. My friends also tried the Turkish Princess and it was like nothing I have ever tasted - so unique, must try! For dinner I had the prawn skewers with cous cous and salad. The prawns were seasoned perfectly with a bit of kick. Overall though I thought the portion size of the meal was quite small for the price (close to $30 after you count the 10% surcharge for weekends!) I probably won't return for food but will be back to enjoy more cocktails, the ambiance and friendly staff!!!

Went to this restaurant for lunch yesterday. Whilst service was good we were a bit underwhelmed with the serving size of the mez plate. We ordered this, an octopus salad which was great, and the chicken wings which were also great. For $38 though, the mez plate which was salad and hommus was quite small, the menu also said there was a bit more involved than we were served.

Went to The Mezz club last night for a cruisey bite with my wife, first time on holiday in 2 years and left the girls with the grandparents, so was really looking forward to a Moroccan or Mediterranean style evening : food was simply stunning and highly recommend the chicken drumsticks and of course the kofte lamb balls

However have to say whilst our waitress was very attentive the manager was not - we sat and waited for a second drink with our meals for a good 10 - 15 minutes staring at the bar trying to be noticed, whilst staff knocked off, hugged and said ciao : he even brushed past us without flinching to clear a table but still no service : what really killed the night for us was a good 2 hours of loud rock n roll music - in a Mediterranean restaurant - really !

We quizzed our waitress about it, who who openly said the manager and her choose the music and said another table the week before said the same thing : guys it's about the customers not the manager : surely if you're in a Mediterranean restaurant you would expect the beautiful sounds of Cafe del Mar not Rock n Roll : we honestly walked away pretty miffed, was it just us, were we expecting too much - I don't think so : I think the owners should know if the mood was right with the music setting the flavour of the amazing food we would've stayed longer, drank more, but instead we felt like we'd gone back to the 50's not the moon drenched shores of the Mediterranean :-(
