Review Taste Of Melaka - Byron Bay

Light Years is busy, as well it should be. The outdoor seating area feels slightly Mediterranean and the atmosphere created by the waitstaff was trendy and friendly - a fine balance. If you've made it to Light Years, you need to try the cocktails. We tried three and all were delightful, but the Lychee Martini deserved a second round. The Korean Fried Chicken Bao Buns are fresh and filling - grab two serves. They're worth the spotlight. The only slight downsides were being seated at a shared, high table and the extreme heat in the outdoor area at lunchtime. No matter - will be visiting again as soon as possible!

Probably the best quality food you’ll find in Byron bay. Make sure you book in on there website as they have limited availability. The bao buns melt in your mouth. That is a must get!!!!!

Excellent food! We ordered two mediums, one side side and one starter. Was enough for the two of us. 2 cocktails each and the food cost us 170 aud Book the place on a weekend. Dont miss their cocktails. Pork bao buns were delicious. The qty of viet slaw was more than the sides you are served in other restaurants. Can be eaten as a mains as well. Firecracker chicken comes with a tangy sauce.

The girls at reception recommended me this place and I must say I’m so glad I tried it despite it being a busy night. Ordered the firecracker chicken & Vietnamese slaw - flavour packed punch that hits you in the right spots. Would definitely recommend this place but would advise to make a booking (I didn’t know) Service was great and staff was polite & lovely.

Amazing service by the staff. The food was surprisingly lack lustre for such a popular place. Would recommend a look into making the Asian food more authentic. It felt more like an weak interpretation of Asian cuisine.

The pineapple pork belly is too sweet for me. Other dishes were really good tho. The staff were accommodating. Quick and excellent customer service. 👍🏻👍🏻

Had high expectations and was disappointed. Went as a group and shared a lot of plates. We were all still hungry after we'd ordered what we imagined would suffice. Portions are very small. Way too $$ for what you get. Staff were lovely and friendly, but also sit down next to you at the table to chat. In 'normal' times this would be fine, but I imagine some people would not be very happy with this closeness, especially as the staff weren't wearing masks. On arrival we were also told that the two dishes we most wanted to try weren't available which was disappointing. Overall would not recommend. We did also go as a group to another very popular Asian restaurant in Byron and the food there was amazing. If you're choosing between Light Years and another really popular one, definitely go the other one.

Had one of my favourite meals in Byron at this place. The food was divine, so tasty and fresh, everting we had was better than the next. Service was darling, with our waitress giving us extra attention and hanging around for a chin wag. I will definitely return when I’m back in town!

One of the best food experiences ever, and I have travelled and eaten a lot of food! This place is far from western style, it's extremely authentic and cooked to perfection. We had the tiger prawns for an entree, a mixed veg dosa and chilli chicken. I can't recommend this place enough. Thank you for the amazing food!

Hands down best restaurant in Byron! Had dinner here 2 nights in a row, amazing roti and really tasty, authentic curries! Also the dosa was next level!! All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back!

I’ve never written a review in my life but this place was pretty bad. Worst service, I was made to feel at fault after complaining about a meal that was an hour and a half late.

Ive eaten at Taste of Melaka 4 times now and it just gets better and better. Slowly working my way through their exquisite menu.

We had dinner there before and loved the food so we decided to bring our friend there to show him. After an hour wait, one of us got their meal. After an other half hour, the other two of us got their meals and one of them was wrong. When your meal is wrong but it took you an hour and a half to get it, you eat it. We heard all sort of excuses about why this happened but no actual appology or compensation. This was a really bad night out and I don't think we will go back there again.

Don't let the small size fool you: this place packs big flavours into every bite. Great meal tonight at Taste of Melaka. BYO so be prepared and enjoy!

Stumbled across this restaurant and can't wait to return. Flavours are incredible, best Malaysian we've eaten. Excellent service and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

The food is just fantastic and so authentic. Best Malaysian restaurant I’ve been to and I’ve been to many! Wish I could take this place home with me.

Top food. Cute family vibe. Strange think for a restaurant playing a Tony De Vit remix but I loved that too. Curry and House music I could do that all day!

Delicious food, wonderful staff - thanks for a lovely evening :)

Wonderful restaurant, lovely staff, and life-changing pumpkin curry.

Dining with Mum and Dad and Des from Atlantic we had a wide variety of dishes. I chose the seafood laksa extremely delicious, with high number of prawns and spices making it a great dining experience. Much recommended Asian restaurant.

very disappointed. walked passed this restaurant smelling amazing cuisine and it was super busy which is always a good sign. was told the wait would be 30 minutes which we were happy to wait. came back and was served by a waitress who didn’t seem to know what she was doing none the less we ordered 3 dishes. we waited a full 40 minutes until the chef came out and told us that there was no more nasi lamek or steamed rice. the chef seemed to have no care or even tell us anything else we could get. we left hungry and very disappointed.

Nope. The pineapple and cucumber salad was a tin of pineapple with a squirt to woolies sweet chilly sauce and an onion.

The Nasi lemak tasted ok but was served in a way reminiscent of a nursing home.

Satay chicken I thought was ok. My six year old, who is a better judge of this dish thought it was terrible.

Overall it feels that a few improvements could get it up to three and even four stars.
