Review The Flying Fox Bistro - Byron Bay

We had a lovely bistro meal with our kids, they had a great time playing outside while we there. We will definitely return when we get the chance. Friendly staff and the food tasted delicious!

Don't miss Our Table. We visited on a Friday night, and there were no customers here - literally. Admittedly it was a wet night but wow what a mistake. Elsewhere in Byron people are paying a lot for some average meals. Here we had a very delicious meal. A tender lamb shank supported by creamy mash and juicy vegetables plus a Spaghetti'with succulent prawns in a lemony garlic and hint of chilli sauce. A beer and wine at club prices a game of pool and we'd had a great night.

Atmosphere is ace. I’d recommend not to eat here though. It’s reheated frozen stuff, every fourth chip will tell you that. Hopefully just an off day for them I guess.

The bistro staff are the rudest I have ever met. They were out of half the menu and were swearing every time someone went up to order. They weren't wearing face masks while cooking but would go off at anyone who went up without one on. Obviously they were in a mood before we arrived but took it out on all the patrons. Multiple complaints from different groups. Avoid eating here!!!

Fun for a group to do barefoot bowls. Wouldn’t go back. Food very average, venue run down and old. Eftpos not working causing payment issues.

Firstly, just wanted to say that the bar staff are wonderful and provide a great service. Could not fault them at all. The reason I am giving one star is because of a man who identified himself as a 'director' of the club. For context, I was attending a barefoot bowls session for a friend's birthday with approximately 18 others. Due to the timing of the session and the fact that we'd been out for a distillery tour beforehand we thought we would be responsible and bring some snacks along with us. A member of the party rang ahead to clear this with staff at the club, and they said that this would be fine as long as we weren't eating on the bowling green. We were having a great time at the bowls club, enjoying the weather, getting great service from the girls behind the bar and having the snacks that we had bought along when the group was told by a man dressed in casual clothes (and calling them casual is a stretch!) that we would need to pack up the food. This man did not identify himself or state his affiliation with the club, just very gruffly and abruptly told us to pack up the food. As we had no idea who this man was we thought very little of it and just continued with what we were doing. Approximately 10 minutes after this he came back and was incredibly aggressive, telling us he was a director at the club and if we didn't have the food packed up in two minutes that we would be kicked out and fined. I cannot stress enough how unprofessional and appalling this mans behaviour and communication was! If I were a member of the board I would have been mortified that I was being affiliated with this man. I really hope that something is done about this occurrence, as this person needs to be pulled up on his behaviour towards the public and probably needs to be stood down in all honesty. The party I was with up to this point were strongly considering staying at the club for dinner as we were very impressed by the level of service provided by the bar staff, however this left us with no recourse but to leave, as we all agreed that we would no longer be happy to provide any money to the club after this experience.

Such a fun place! We had never played lawn bowling before and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. Drink prices are inexpensive. Definitely a fun activity for all ages. Can’t wait to return!

Atmosphere was good and drinks were too. The food was average, the hummus and olive board was severely overpriced and the meals were doused in salt. Even the salad was salted to the point where it was inedible. Parmi was also served in a bowl, please consider using plates instead.
