Review Fetta's Greek Taverna - Cairns

Ian Cairns
This restaurant was very nice. It has a lot of seating which isn't evident when you look in from the street. There are 4 zones I could see. There's the sidewalk tables, a seating zone when you enter from the street, a zone further back and behind that (behind some glass windows) there's another zone that's harder to see. The service we received was fast & efficient. Orders were taken promptly, food brought out in quick time and our empty plates were cleared away fast, too. I thought the prices were very good. I / we were there for lunch and there's a range of inexpensive items costing $10 or less and even the higher priced dishes were in the range of $17-20. All the food we ordered was good. There's nothing to complain about at Fetta's. I notice some bad reviews & the owner seems to respond to them. I'm pretty sure he was there when we visited & he was enjoying socialising with some of the guests. Nothing wrong with that. He seems to be proud of his restaurant, its food & service. Good for him.

Was seated very quickly because we went before peak time. Drinks and entrees arrived quickly. The saganaki cheese and sardines are very good. However, we had to wait almost an hour for the main. The bbq grill arrived almost a bit cold like it has been out for a long time. Then the owner was supposed to replace our plates which he forgot because he was focusing on chatting with other customers. I also requested water 2 times which never arrived. When it was time to pay, we got up our seats and no one was even paying attention to us to get our payment. Lost my patience with this place so I will not recommend.

False advertising. Ordered the fish yiros, which should come with chips. Upon receiving my order, no chips were present. Even after I asked the waiter (or owner, not sure), I had to point out the sign were it specifically said it comes with a side of chips. He said I was right and that he would get me some. Minutes went by, but he just ignored me for the rest of the evening, probably waiting for me to leave. Why waste my time, instead of just telling me to pay for a side of chips? After reading the other negative reviews, it is very apparent that the owner does not care about his customers and is very stingy. I will not support a business like this. The fish yiros was too heavily salted by the way. Update: as expected, the owner commented like a little child.

Such a delicious restaurant , lamb soup and the chicken was just incredible. Also pretty authentic Greek restaurant. The owner smash dishes some times as a tradition.

The atmosphere was beautifully Greek. The food was magnificent. I highly recommend dipping your pita bread in the sauce that comes on the dolmades. The calamari was super fresh. The moussaka had a fantastic flavour profile. The belly dancer was an unexpected treat

Not recommended at all! The chicken suflaki was so oily and old. I was mortified to taste oily old chicken. My husband had chicken with sauce and he said it had no taste. Chips were horrible too just from the photos you can see it too. Not even gonna comment about the rest of the food, really sad :( Hands down this is the worst Greek food we have ever had! Service was very slack and didn't feel comfortable to top it off. I would never recommend this place to any of my family and friends. I hope other people have a better experience then us. Edit update: even from the answer the owners provide on here shows how they don't care about thier customers... επαίσχυντος

My wife and I went here for dinner Thursday. The food was amazing the service excellent and the atmosphere electric. I would like to mention LISA whose customer service was truly amazing her friendly and kind attitude made us feel very welcome excellent service Lisa. I would also like to give a shout out to Angela who took time to chat and share stories with us. George the owner was also very welcoming and friendly. It’s this customer experience that makes people want to come back. Well done guys will definitely come back and recommend you to our friends. Thanks for an amazing experience. Delicious food, waited awhile to order but was worth waiting for. The set menu is great value, you won't leave hungry. Saganaki and the fish were the highlights for me but everyone really enjoyed their meals. Kids meals were good value with lots of choices. Recommend a visit.

Awesome! By far the best meal out we have ever had living in Cairns. Fettas is our new go-to! We ordered the set menu for two and couldn’t fault a thing. Delicious 😋. Friendly family style service also greatly appreciated. Highly recommend

Best Greek tavern I have been at in a while. Friendly staff and beautiful venue. Food was very tasty and prices were exceptionally good. Went here three times in a week !! Would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes Greek food. Only thing is I wish it was in Melbourne and not in cairns since haha

I was hanging out for some Greek food. This place got some things right and some not so. The starters were fine without being brilliant. Most of the mains worked and were tasty. Their lamb platter was a bit of a miss considering that the lamb came out so overcooked it was practically burned.....no..not charred. I typically pay whatever it takes for quality food but a tab of nearly $200 with no alcoholic drinks and no dessert was a major turn off im sorry to say. Service was very good, food probably passed but the pricetag was a loss for words.

Ordered mix dips, liver with onions, Greek salad and mixed gyros. Whilst it was all good it wasn't great but i guess that's because the quality of Greek restaurants in Melbourne are better in my opinion. On a side note: loved the belly dancer and her interaction with the crowd. I would recommend this place for a good night out with good food.

There's nothing better than a traditional greek tavern accompanied by delcious greek food. Fetta's was just just that as soon as you walk into the tavern there is blue and white decor every and smashed plates on the floor, cant get more authentic than that! The food met expectations of greek cusine; mixed dip platter and lamb gyros hit the spot! Definitely worth a visit!

First time in Cairns and got attracted by the name of the restuarant. Sometimes just going with your gut works out brilliantly - and with Fetta i struck gold.

This was a real treat for my manageress who i was taking out for dinner. It was so good that on our last day in Cairns just 3 days later she asked 'Steve! Can we please go back to Fetta it was amazing'. Then she proceeded to order the exact same meal as the first night! The loin chops. The best thing about that? I hot to finish it.. both times!

Highly recommended.

Enjoy

We were here on Saturday night. Our second visit in a year. Nice environment (clean and well presented), attentive and efficient service, tasty food, well priced and even the quick belly dance sessions are good fun if you're in the mood - even though this type of thing usually puts me off, it was fun! All in all, another good experience, thank you also for your extra efforts to accommodate our injured friend! Thank you, Fetta's.

Fun restaurant with great food and bonus plate smashing. I've heard that this tradition is normally saved for weekends, but the owner aims to please, entertaining visitors from all over the world with an endless supply of broken crockery. On the quiet Tuesday evening we dined in, he even offered me a plate to break, and naturally I couldn't refuse.

The saganaki cheese and calamari I ordered were hot and tasty. My friend was equally as impressed with her sardines and meat platter. Staff didn't give her any grief over a long list of dietary requirements, tailoring the meat main to suit her needs. I thought they were really accommodating compared to some other establishments in Cairns, where you can be made to feel like a burden.

Come to Fetta's if you want a hearty feed and laughs.

We have been here a few times. George (the owner) is a permanent fixture and loves his homeland. Reasonably priced meals with big serves. Locals love the place.

I went here for a work dinner, so there was large group of about 25. From the second we walked in the owner was the life of the party. We had the set menu, which was a really good idea for such a large group. The food just nver stopped coming and the entertainment was just as good, from the plate smashing to the dancer and the zorba line around the tables.

A true Greek Taverna with plenty of ouzo and the food from the white bait to souvlaki was great..a little on the $$$ but worth a visit......

We went to fettas greek restaurant a time ago. The Service was welcoming - the food was fresh and traditional. On Weekends they have belly dancers and music going.

So bad I made an Urbanspoon account. It wasn't a very busy night and the wait for the food was similar to what you would expect at Sepia or a genuine 5 star restaurant. However, in this case it was unwarranted.

Their signature dish tasted like meat that had fallen into the BBQ at a beach only to be rediscovered a week later. I thought I was crunching charcoal and sand. If you want the same meat without travelling to a beach, go to a late night kebab shop and ask for the outer layer of the meat rotisserie only. The rump steak must have come from an obese cow and comprised of equal amounts of grizzle and beef - it was the worst cut my friend had ever eaten. It looked very similar to the meal we ate on our Virgin flight to Cairns. Lastly, the souvlaki contained more burnt capsicum and onion than meat.

I've eaten many TV dinners and RSL meals and recognised the steamed veggies they served with the 5 meals that hit our table. Unless I'm mistaken (which I'm not) steamed potatoes, carrot and broccoli are not veggies you would expect to see accompanying a Greek restaurant's signature dish. However, at Fetta's, they are. If you're a fan of steamed veggies, just rock up to Fetta's and order ANY main meal - you'll love it!

Lastly the atmosphere was a tad odd. The lighting was very dim and set between the sensual and erotic settings you'd find at a strip club. This made it very difficult to see the wonderful meal that had been cooked up. Furthermore, the music playing was either really loud or off and came in bursts as if the sound system was playing Spotify on a very poor internet connection.

Lastly, the customer service was poor. We were continually watched and had waitresses pacing around us and trying to take our plates and unfinished drinks from us...

This is the first Greek restaurant I've been to which has resulted in me being so disappointed and frustrated that I created an urbanspoon account to vent. When I get back home I'll have to pay a visit to a Greek restaurant so that I can remember was Greek food should taste.

I just ate at Fetta's Greek Taverna!- Amazing meal, we shared the banquet and we loved every bite! Such a friendly authentic restaurant!

Food Was Great. Chose the $35 banquet. All the dishes that came out were amazing. We usually eat Greek and this is up there I would give the dishes a 9/10. The waiter was a little rude because I asked for a pescitarian version of the banquet but he would not change it, evetually he did it for us.

Fettas Taverna. As a greek missing tastes of the greek cuisine over my stay in the northern territory working on...well what can i say,Fettas Tavern is an ambassador for the greek food cuisine in Cairns. The owner George sure knows how to create KEFI,dinning, dancing greek, music is a nice place to visit.I fly from the north every year just for this restaurant...and again now in easter this year.GOOD WORK GEORGE.

Family atmosphere with authentic Greek. I enjoyed the food and my girlfriend really loved it. The service was a little slow but they were very busy that night. They also smashed a few plates Greek style which was fun to watch!

Great night. Being of greek heritage I am always looking for a greek restaurant at every holiday destination. Fetta's quality of food with a local twist stood out from the many greek restaurants I have visited in Melbourne. George the owner was a great host and it was nice to finish of the night with a bit of plate smashing and belly dancing.

Best gyros. Fetta's takeaway gyros (i ordered lamb with chilli) is probably the best I've had in Australia.

Disappointed!. I love greek food and had wanted to go to Fetta's for a long time. I was so disappointed when the food was unexciting and tasted terrible, fatty lamb and bland fish. Won't be going back.

Entree of the bread and mixed dips were great. Service was good but the main meal let it down. I was recommended the signature lamb dish. Came out on a sizzling plate. Very fatty and oily.

One of the best Greek restaurants we've been to. The cutlets were awesome and the owner was very friendly. Food and service are worth the visit.
