Have not had a bad experience here yet! As someone who used to live in Japan the craving for the food never goes away and this place can satisfy that craving! Every meal has been spot on and absolutely worth the price.
So thankful we chose this Japanese place on a short stay in Cairns. There is a great atmosphere, just like a family run style izakaya in Japan, down to the shy japanese kids hiding behind the counter. The food was great, there was a variety of japanese beers and cold and warm sake. If I can get back to cairns, this place will be at the top of the list of places to eat at again.
Tokyo lands in Cairns!! Hidden away in Palm Court, many pass OāCha without even blinking an eye. But let us tell you, it is worth sussing out. This authentic Japanese eatery is warm and inviting, offering quality, tasty and reasonably priced Japanese cuisine. Whether itās a sushi and sashimi platter, gyoza, chilled tofu with white soy, octopus balls or chicken, egg and vegetable don that tickles your fancy, OāCha will have a delightful Japanese dish to suit. If you canāt find it. Ask. It will definitely be worth it.
Just arrived cairns today and chose this restaurant to have lunch at! Ordered the cold soba noodles and it turns out that it's really good! Portion's quite big and filling! The salmon sashimi is really fresh as well! Glad that it's a nice lunch we had today!
Great little Japanese joint in cairns. Sweet matured staff who looked after us so well. They have a separate gluten free menu and even gluten free soy sauce! Food was fresh and delicious, just like so many meals in Japan, I can't recommend O'Cha Cha enough :)
When I asked about vegetarian options they came out with a special menu with vegetarian items highlighted to make it easier to order. Not a lot on offer, but more vegetarian options than any Japanese place I've visited in Cairns. This was very helpful and it was clear and honest. The food and service was excellent.
Pokey little place that has a very quiet atmosphere and can be really quite warm in the wet season. Don't go here if you're a sweaty southerner who can't handle the heat, and don't go in a big group who wants to have a jolly time with loud conversations as you'll feel uncomfortable when you realise the next table is within arms length and have no choice but to listen to every word. Despite this, do yourself a favour and go and try this place sometime. Maybe in the dry season with your softly spoken friends. Lovely, friendly staff, with wonderfully delicious Japanese food. A real hidden treat in Cairns.
James. Was looking around for a restaurant in Cairns and stumbled on this. The food is delicious. We had Hokkaido scallop aburi, tempura dried squid, fried chicken set, crab cream croquette set, orange miso fried fish. All 6 of us rated it good. Price is reasonable too.
Lovely little Cairns secret! A little izakaya in a slightly quirky spot. Seating at little tables or traditional floor style. Lovely service, good food. Decent wine list, including several Japanese beers, sake and shochu. Even kid friendly!(but we clear out early, so a great date spot too...) can't wait to go back.

When you Google ābest Japanese in Cairnsā, Ochacha is the first place to come up on the listing, and for good reason. I went on a Monday, which is lucky because they are closed on Tuesdays, for both lunch and dinner. I dined alone at lunch, and had a lovely chat in Japanese with the waitress who was visiting on a working holiday. It was a particularly hot day, so I opted for the zaru udon, cold udon noodles in a dipping sauce. The meal was so refreshing ā the noodles were beautifully chewy and the flavour of the sauce took me right back to Japan. Having had such a nice lunch, I took my friend back there for dinner, and we feasted on sushi and sashimi. The aburi salmon nigiri sushi was the highlight, although I was impresse
