Came up for the weekend from Townsville and was told to check this place out.
Staff were awesome and down for a bit of a laugh with some cheeky comments going back and forth, has good tunes and awesome food and $12 beer steins.
Try the chicken and waffles, sounds weird but its bloody good. But they only do them if the weekend.
Best fried chicken in Australia...finally great American fried chicken without having to travel to St Louis! Friendly service and if you have ever been to the best fried chicken bar in the world Hodaks then you will love the tenders and actually really proper wings.
People who say its overpriced need to realize if you want proper American fried crispy chicken like this the next option is fly to LA, connect to Chicago, connect to St Louis, hire a car and find Hodaks...
Friendly staff. Not long after ordering our meals, they were brought out to us. The Sl*t’s were delicious, great on a hot day. Would recommend.
Absolutely love the chicken here! They do not disappoint with the tender and crisp! I can not knock the service or food after my multiple visits but I can say the waste is a little dissapointing, everything is served in disposables wether eating in or not! There are so many options for reusable and bio degradable and we are all well educated on the impacts of waste, it would be nice to see them take some initiative in that area but everything else is spot on! Omg. Heaven in my mouth. The perfect blend of spicy and sweet. They have nailed the spicea. Delicious drinks and cocktails as well. Service is impeccable. Atmosphere is inviting. The music choice is fun and funky. Got to try. Dont leave Cairns without trying this.
I'm a big fan of a small menu - do a few things, and do them well. Reasonably priced, chicken is delicious, generous serving sizing. Theming and music was great. The ginger beer - amazing. Chicken and waffles highly recommended.
The wings are so good I just know I will be thinking about them when I go home. We had the medium and it was a perfect blend of flavour and heat. We also enjoyed the frozen cocktails. We visited on a Monday night and it was quiet so easy to get a seat but still a good atmosphere and really nice all lit up!
Visited Howlin’ Jay’s for dinner last night. You can sit anywhere and order up at the counter. We sat on the balcony to enjoy the beautiful view of the water. We were going to order the chicken and waffles but they didn’t have any waffles available. We ordered two chicken burgers (one mild, the other Southern) and fries instead. Food was served really quickly and was nice. Friendly service from the staff too. The place has a good atmosphere with music and it’s decor. Might return later in the week for the waffles!
Very delicious chicken, and tasty cocktails. We ate tenders, sweet potato fries and fried pickles. Has indoor and outdoor seating. Super fun place
Cool joint with cheap drinks and bar food. Recommended for a stop in. Drinks in the photos are mixed and already half drunk. Was so tasty I got a brain freeze from drinking to fast.
A full copy of howlin’ rays from LA buttttt why not? The food was fantastic, spice was on point and staff was very friendly! $10 cocktails? A bonus!

This place was really neat! So many fun things to look at! The food was yummy, coctails were great, though weak. Not a lot of alcohol in the ones I drank.

We are here early on a Friday night. Wasn’t too busy but as we were leaving the place started to fill up! Cocktails were delicious & reasonably priced.
We ate the tenders, Mac n cheese and fries. All delicious and the spice (medium) on the chicken was just right if you like it hot but not a mouth burner! Would definitely come back here on a trip to FNQ. Staff were friendly and attentive snd the restaurant was a cool place to hang out.
