Review Elyros - Camberwell

Tom “Tom” Atkins
The food was impeccable and the service faultless. Our wait staff were extremely accommodating and informative without being pushy or hovering. They assisted us with the menu and we were not disappointed by any of the food selections. Each dish was delicious; my favourites were the cured tuna and the prasopita (leek and fennel pie with hazelnuts). Highly recommend this restaurant!

A gem in Camberwell. OMG every dish was beautifully cooked and presented. We had the 4 course menu + extras. A fantastic night had by our group of 8 foodies.

Attentive service and delicious food. We tried a few of the Greek wines and they were lovely. A stand out in Camberwell.

Attended this restaurant for a 21st at the function room upstairs. This restaurant has such magnificent food, and each dish bought something different and unique. The waiter gave us such impeccable service, and the surroundings were lovely. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, including those wanting to hire the function room upstairs for a special occasion.

I like the food very much. They provide share dishes, and change the plate for each course, friendly and professional!

i live in the neighbour hood, and I had dinner and coffee quite a few time here, today, I was have a phone call on the street and sit on one of these chairs for 10 mins, it was 3 in the afternoon, there’s no customers using these chairs, and a staff came out ask me to leave , I said, can I sit here for a min, just to finish the phone call, she said NO, and ask me to leave,it was rude, what the f*^k, Me and my family will never come back again, thank you

The service is spot on, the decor modern and bright and the food is modern Greek done very well. This is a great restaurant with an interrsting wine list and of course Greek food done differently. It is a cut above anyhting else around in this part of Melbourne. Worth visit. Initial welcome was prompt but (like several restaurants) it took > 5 minutes of trying to attract staff attention to place order, even though only 5 tables of guests ! Has one hat , but don’t let service slip. Staff will explain portion sizes - listen carefully. Dessert huge.

Had set menu for valentines dinner. Very Very slow service, tasteless food even with upgraded set menu to include spaghetti ( homemade) and it was served cold. The pasta was like rubber bands. Lamb was not seasoned and was flavourless. Very disappointing and will never return. Oh the octopus was bland also. As for the desert, my partner said the walnuts were rancid. Ruined our special night. Oh and refused the entertainment gold card too... I also noticed the kitchen was not running well

We came her for Valentines Day and had the set menu. We feel like something happened as the mood changed and staff appeared frantic and totally stressed about an hour in to our night, so we didn’t want to put anymore pressure on them but the way food was coming out was so hiccildy piccildy, some courses were really fast, with servers piling food on the table before you had finished eating the prior course, or really drawn out. I think we ended up waiting over thirty minutes before our final course - dessert - came. Throughout the meal our servers also never told us was what we were eating, but then they would for other tables so we had to eavesdrop to understand what we had just put in our mouth. I found a lot of the food to be either really tough and or flavourless which was disappointing. Food was presented lovely though.I would go back in the future and give this place another go but maybe on a weeknight when it’s less busy.

Very good staff, friendly and experienced. Helped us choose the menu. Timing very good with food and service. On the job as we sat down. Ambiance excellent. Noise level suitable. Big windows to look out. food very enjoyable.

What a lovely surprise to dine at a Greek restaurant that focuses on Cretan cuisine. The food is outstanding, staff attentive and very knowledgeable. Great addition to Camberwell.

This was my first time at Elyros. The food was amazing but I wish I could say the same for the customer service. The lady with the blonde bob hair refused to move our table but the other staff were moving people. Furthermore, the lady with the blonde bob took away the oil for our Tamarasolato dish midway during our dinner and never brought it back. Customer service is a crucial part of the restaurant experience. Please ensure all customers are treated the same.
Hello. Imnikki
I think One Piece Left review pretty much sums up everything there needs to be said about Elyros. The dining experience was amazing from start to finish, and I couldn't fault either the service or the food.<br/><br/>My partner and I decided to indulge in the set menu and for the quality and quantity of food that we got at $58 per person, this was extremely value for money. Starting of with 4 small dishes, each as good as the last, we were left impressed even before we reached the halfway point of our meal. The fava dip was an absolutely dream, and the waitress said it best when she described it as a dish that may sound simple but the complexity of the flavours will amaze you. Even though we knew we were filling ourselves up to quickly, we just had to ask for a second serve of bread to finish up the dip.<br/><br/>The cured pork with pear and pistachios was a dish that showcased bold yet complementary flavours, and with different textural elements to keep us captivated. The Cretan cheese pie was, as cliché as it sounds, so cheesy and the thin layer of pastry was so light and flaky.<br/><br/>My partner was hesitant about the fish, but once he had a taste of it, he was hooked. The flavours, and the fact that the fish was cooked incredibly well - firm to bite, yet delicate and tender, made this a dish you wouldn't forget easily.<br/><br/>By the time the lamb hit our table, I was ready to throw in the towel. Luckily I didn't as I otherwise wouldn't be able to savour such a brilliantly cooked lamb. Tender, moist, flavourful, and the meat fell of the bone without the need for a knife. Yes, the waiter said the Cretan knife was for decorative purposes only.<br/><br/>The hospitality we encountered was second to none, and the staffs were all courteous, warm and approachable. We really couldn't ask for more at Elyros. Perfect in all aspects!<br/>

Wow!! We had the premium set menu $70pp and it was the most modern Greek Cretan food we’ve eaten, mouthwatering deliciousness. Service was fantastic, ambience perfect. Highly recommend and will definitely go back.

Affordable nice food - we chose the set menu. The atmosphere was nice and staff were friendly and informative. We were celebrating a birthday, and staff were very accommodating.

Had dinner here last night, didn’t know that Greek food can be so adventurous. Definitely Greek on whole other level. We had the 4 course tasting menu and it was the best choice. We left the dishes choice to the waiter and he didn’t disappoint. Food was tasteful, tender, in case of the lamb and absolutely delightful.<br/><br/>Service was great and on point! Would recommend and venture back at some stage

We rated Elyros 4 stars at our last visit in 2018, and it’s pleasing to see its even better!! Possibly because we ordered the 3 course ‘Matina’ menu for $45 PP which we thought was great value. <br/>The food was complimented by amazing wines as you would expect from a high class establishment.<br/>It was also great to catch up again with Max. Max is french but who cares, his service and accent only added to the whole experience, although in the background was Disa calling the shots and a genuine multilingual Cretan.<br/>If your in Camberwell extend your culinary experience to Cretan, similar too but in my view better than Greek cuisine.

I had my birthday party at the Amari Room yesterday. Highly recommended. The venue was superb, the 4 course sharing menu was exceptional, delicious and of high quality, and the service was friendly and excellent.

To be honest our knowledge of Greek cuisine is limited to gyros and souvlaki. This place well and truly opened our eyes to how good Greek food can be. Ordered 4 course lunch which we found was great value considering the quantity of food we'd eventually have. Started with 4 different mezze plates, all delicious and varied flavours. Next was barramundi, skin seared beautifully. This was followed by 8 hour cooked lamb with chips cooked in duck fat and rocket and walnut salad. Then rice pudding with baklava sauce. Wonderful decor and relaxed ambience with impeccable friendly service from our French waiter. Highly recommended in the crowd of Bourke Street restaurants near the station. We'll worth a revisit in the future.

The weekday set menu is excellent value at $50 for 3 courses, including a glass of wine. Starting with a selection of mezes including bread, dips, olives, kingfish ceviche, air dried pork and cheese pies, this in itself was substantial enough for a meal! The highlight was the cheese pie! This was followed by a beautifully cooked shoulder of lamb, accompanied by chips and a salad. Excellent!

I've never been to Crete... But I want to now. And spend a lot more time in Greece. Elyros digs do remind me of this cute tavern i went to in Mykonos, light, breezy yet so classic Greece. The food was really good here. The kalitsounia pies are a must - pillows made out of a crisp yet slightly crumbly pastry filled with a balance blend of sheep and goats cheese. I could so smash many of these. Just do the sharing menu... And go back for the other dishes.

Premium sharing menu $70pp<br/>Absolutely stunning traditional menu of Cretan cuisine in a wonderful location off Burke rd.<br/>Service was very good with wonderful timing of the dishes great spacing for the large amount that was on offer. With so many dishes it was wonderful to experience a wide variety of dishes to explore the different flavours of Cretan cuisine . A highlight for us both would be the crab pasta and lakertha the house cured tuna. Really enjoying our experience at Elyros with very good value for money. If you are looking for traditional Crean cuisine it an excellent introduction and we left wholly satisfied.

My fiancé and I dined at Elyros over the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We visited Crete a couple of years ago and fell in love with their local cuisine (and everything else about the Greek island) and wanted to relive our trip through the food. We chose the 4 course tasting menu and was not disappointed! Our entrees started off with housemade bread with Cretan olive oil, marinated olives, fava dip (amazing) and cured kingfish. These dishes immediately reminded us of Crete and really set the scene for the rest of the meal. We were served a second round of entrees of cheese pies and smoked pork, followed by mains of barramundi with wild green salad and slow cooked lamb with beetroot salad and of course, thick cut chips. We finished off our meal with a delicious rice pudding. We were so satisfied after the meal and felt very spoilt with the amount of food. My fiancé and I did cheekily wonder to each other whether there would be complimentary watermelon and a shot of raki (strong Cretan alcohol) as that was served after every meal when we were in Crete. Just think that would have been a nice little surprise. The service was also very friendly and attentive and the restaurant had a lovely, dim ambience, so overall it was a wonderful dining experience. We can’t wait to come back with some friends!

My brother works in camberwell and told me about Elyros. Our mother was from Crete and we have said 'we are definitely going' too many times. <br/>Finally, on his birthday yesterday we made good on this. On what was the coldest day in Melbourne this year, we arrived into a warm restaurant with welcoming staff. Hot tip: park in train station car park to avoid driving around for 30 mins.<br/>There were seven of us and we ordered a few mezes and a few mains. I have to stay, the Kalistiunia were exactly how my mum made them and absolutely delicious. The lamb, chicken and fish were extremely tasty with all of us leaving no food on any plate. <br/>Elyros isn't your traditional Greek tavern, with death by meat. It's Cretan cuisine cooked with traditional recipes. It's not a cheap meal but it's one that made seven people say 'that was delicious'. Staff were exceptional as well.

Had a dinner with a friend two weeks ago. It was a week night so we tried a set degustation menu.<br/>On that night it consisted of a several small bites, a delicious slow cooked lamb, a dessert plus a glass of Greek wine. A great value for money for $50 per head! The place is quaint and service was fantastic - really good wine and food recommendations! Definitely will go back.

Was a guest at a private function upstairs. Entree breads /dips/ mussels, cheese pastry, mains lamb. High class, beautifully presented, best quality versions of anything that I've had that you could come close to emulating I'm another restaurant
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:<br/>+ Pickled seafood<br/>+ Tongue<br/>+ Roast Chicken with chestnut<br/><br/>If I was ever in Crete (which I have never been to) I would imagine having a meal like this, sitting by the beach, the hot sun beating down on my back ... the pickled seafood was a great little entree. Tenderised by lemon, fresh, and drenched in good olive oil. Perfect. We also had the quail which was nicely cooked, but on the sweet side as it is cooked with figs (I prefer a savoury dish), and the tongue (sliced thinly, cooked and spiced to perfection). We also had the pork belly (this was tender with a good crackling) and the roast chicken with chestnut (my favourite dish of the meal - the chicken was succulent, tender and full of flavour, and the chestnut a great addition to the dish). Oh, and the complimentary breads were great too. The servings were generous, service was friendly and our waitress was very knowledgeable on each of the dishes. Will definitely be back, and this time leave some room for the dessert!
Food 4 Thought
I have heard and read great reviews at Elyros but my family and I were pleasantly surprised of the authentic flavors that were served tonight. We ordered the $63.00 banquet with all dishes cooked to perfection especially the lamb shoulder. The food was presented beautifully with correct portions so not to over eat and spoil the next item on the menu. One of my favourite dishes was the fava which was just as tasty as you would find in Crete. Our waitress was delightful with extra points going to her for pronouncing the food correctly. Elyros has a nice ambience with a traditional warmth. I'm a tad embarrassed that it was my first time dining there considering I live 5 minutes down the road. Keep up the great work.
Bun's Food Diaries
Thought we would give Elyros a go after coming across it on Entertainment Book. We used our voucher which allowed for 25% off bill up to $40 for the 4 courses Chef's Sharing Menu (thought this would be a safe, introductory choice as we both were not familiar with Cretan cuisine). First up was bread with olives, dips, olive oil and a small selection of dishes. The variety here was good. The fish main was probably my favourite dish as I prefer the natural taste of ingredients. This dish was light flavoured with a tomato base sauce served with clams and mussels. We were already quite full by the end of the 2nd course. Interestingly my partner who is the opposite of me and prefers full on flavours did not enjoy the food as much as I did. While dessert didn't particularly look attractive, it was very tasty and I had to finish it despite being very full.<br/>Staff were polite and service was there when you needed. Decor and ambience was a bit bland though, the dark brown tables and chairs being most prominent. Not the most comfortable chairs either, I was in shorts and it marked my skin.
King Of King St Jr
Excellent food and some of the best services I have ever had in a restaurant. I highly recommended it. We had the shared menu the portions were just enough. The food was excellent quality. Please try it you won't be disappointed.
Cyn
Superb!! We tried the mid week Chef's sharing menu - and we were not disappointed at all. We loved every dishes from Meze to Roast to Dessert which were beautifully presented and delicately show casing scrumptious Cretan flavour. What not pictured here were the homemade bread (yum!), olives and the "give me moooore" Fava (gosh, it was so yummy and moreish!). Left the place very satisfied and happy. Definitely will go back again.

We regretfully didn't get a chance to visit the island of Crete during our time in Greece. However, being able to enjoy some Cretan cuisine at Elyros back in Melbourne was a pretty awesome experience! We already get excited by new flavours with dishes we've never had before. To be spoilt by a whole new cuisine, I felt like a kid at a candy store. <br/><br/>"How did you find this place?" - this is a question which we get asked a lot. Well the answer to this question for Elyros was random Google restaurant searches, along with some cross checking on Zomato. As a matter of fact, this is how we find most of the restaurants we go to, because we like to try different places out. Elyros caught our attention with their menu and reasonable prices. We rocked up and I was shocked to see how nice the place was. We don't generally look up pictures of the inside, so I found myself severely under dressed again! I felt as though my black runners were discreet, so I puffed out my chest, and walked to the table confidently like they were leather shoes. Fake it till you make it! <br/><br/>The white walls, big windows and chandeliers gives the restaurant an understated yet elegant look. It has a strong Greek flair without having to resort to scattering photos of Greece all over the place. I certainly didn't feel like I was in Melbourne during the whole time I dined at Elyros. <br/><br/>With the help of the friendly waiting staff, we finally agreed on the 4 course set menu for $63. Please bear it mind that this is a mid week special, and the prices may vary on the weekend. This set menu even came with alcohol too! You get either a French sparkling, Semillon from Hunter Valley, Greek red, or a beer. Something for all alcoholic preferences, it was very well thought out. The first two courses consisted of multiple dishes, which would be too much to list here. Picking our favourite dishes was a difficult task as they were all so tasty! The Fava - yellow split pea puree, capers & shallots was just to die for. Throw out everything with what you think a pea puree should taste like, this one is totally different. There was nothing artificial with the sweetness of this puree, the capers and shallots give it an interesting twist. This dish singlehandedly upped my carb intake for the night because I couldn't stop dipping the bread in it!<br/><br/>Kalitsounia - traditional Cretan cheese pies was also a hit. Little fluffy pillows of cheesy goodness. The cheese was light and piping hot, burnt the roof of my mouth from eating this, but so worth it. The lamb was exceptional, slow cooked for at least 12hrs, it was soft and juicy. <br/><br/>The fish was cooked to perfection, and it was complimented with black garlic. The only previous interactions I've had with black garlic was seeing them at the supermarket and marking them as too expensive to buy. I never would have expected it to be used with fish. Did it work? You bet it did! It accentuated the sweetness of the fish and I thoroughly enjoyed it. By the time we had finished our 3rd course, we were well and truly stuffed! Dessert was overkill. I remembered it to be nice, but no more recollection after that. I was way too full and my taste buds had shut down. <br/><br/>Upon doing some research before writing this review, I learnt that Elyros was actually a one hatted restaurant. Without knowing this prior to visiting them, I had already thought their price to food quality ratio was tough to beat. We were also treated with the utmost respect from the waiting staff at Elyros. Being totally new to Cretan cuisine, we naturally asked a lot of questions. The waiting staff here always answered with a smile on their faces, and we were never made to feel as though we were a hassle. I found them warm and personable, total opposite of the snobby service you may find at other hatted restaurants. Do pay Elyros a visit if you haven't been, I'm sure you'll have a magical experience!<br/><br/>- D

What a feast! This time we sat in the wine bar. <br/>We enjoyed the meze dishes. Fava, yellow split pea puree. The Merino Gold (sweet indulgence) and Siglina house cured pork was beautiful.<br/>Delicious Slow cooked Lamb with patates. For dessert the Cretan Cheese Cake with walnuts and carob was divine! <br/>What a lovely place to go to for special occasions. Definitely coming back to try the other desserts on the menu.

There is a reason why elyros has won a chef's hat. I couldn't recommmend this place more highly. From the elegant understated room, to the beautifully presented well balanced food and the impeccable service from the young girl.<br/>We felt well looked after and thoroughly spoilt. <br/>

Been for two visits so far; neglected to review first visit.<br/>On both occasions, thoroughly satisfied with the food.  The service was fairly indifferent on the second visit - I had to retrieve a menu for myself and flagging down a waiter to take the order was quite difficult.<br/><br/>Second visit meal was the lamb shoulder for my partner and slow-cooked goat with pasta for me. We shared the patates (house-cooked chips) and Lahanosalata (cabbage salad).<br/><br/>The goat was delicious and with the pasta, very filling, the chips likewise (the lamb fat was apparent).  I found the lamb a little stringy, but my partner enjoyed it.<br/><br/>Big plus was the quality of the gluten-free bread (which was cooked in-house) and the supplied bread in general is also good (a bit stingy on the salt, but I'm being picky).<br/><br/>Only food complaint was the Risolago (rice pudding)... a bit too much cinnamon.

A few weeks ago Steve took me to Elyros to celebrate our one-year wedding anniversary. Located in the heart of Camberwell, the restaurant and wine bar was awarded 1 Hat in The Age Good Food Guide 2017. Upon walking in the restaurant that was converted from a 1920s old bank building, I was wowed by the elegant interior. After a phase of dining at funky restaurants, I suppose Elyros, with its brass-wrought chandeliers and clean lines were a breath of fresh air. The dining area is separated from the wine bar and on that night we were sat in dining area.

Loved the whole experience. Great feel, perfect ambience, wonderful food, exceptional service. So enjoyable sharing plates, food so fresh & great quality ingredients. Great wine selection. Really good value - less than $70/head - food & wine.

We dined at Elyros to celebrate a family birthday and were very impressed. We selected our own menu starting with mussels, whiting and octopus which were all cooked perfectly albeit on the smaller serving side. For mains we shared chicken, lamb, potatoes and cabbage salad which were all outstanding. <br/>To top it off we had a surprise cake with candles and a 'xronia polla' message brought out which was a really thoughtful gesture from the restaurant and just topped off the experience. The waitress was lovely and attentive, we will definitely return. My only suggestion to the restaurant is to offer a mixed dip selection.
Hungry Couples
We love this place. Great service with amazing food and authentic. The food is fresh and delicious. Lamb was tender and full of flavour. Great wine list and many Greek wines. Most impressed.
AaronN
Service was great, but we found the food a little disappointing. Whilst the taramasalta dip was lovely, the smoked pork that followed and the roast lamb were quite bland, and lacked a real flavour punch. Its a shame about the average food,as the ambiance was really cool.
Andylovestoeat
Lamb was perfectly cooked! Well flavoured and perfectly paired with the patates and cabbage salad! The cheese cake was the best I've ever tasted!

Everything is excellent here.<br/>The restaurant and the wine bar very nice re vamp. <br/>Food is delicious and so are the wine options. <br/>Service is excellent. <br/>Been quite a few time and will go again. The lamb is always good. Highly recommend Tuesday $50 deal.. dinner and glass of wine. Perfect

Unexpectedly delicious food in the heart of Camberwell. The set menu is great value and you'll be very satisfied by the end. The fava dip and the lamb were standouts for me, will definitely be back again!

I had heard really good things about Elyros so we decided to book for Valentines Day. WOW this restaurant really did not disappoint! I felt the price for what we paid was very fair especially after experiencing the whole lot! Most restaurants of this caliber would have charged the equivalent of a home deposit, so we were very pleasantly surprised! The restaurant itself is gorgeous and its a beautifully decorated intimate space. The staff we're extremely attentive, very knowledgeable about the food and drinks on offer and paced out our 4 courses perfectly. I had 2 cocktails (Rakomelo Espresso Martini and Summer in Crete) they were absolutely delicious! The food was on a whole other level! Every course was better than the last and I can easily say that the roasted potatoes we're the best I have ever eaten! They were gorgeously crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. We loved Elyros and cannot wait for another reason to visit and enjoy their beautiful food!

We came here for a Christmas dinner and the food was rather delicious. My husband went out on a limb and tried the snails but couldn't seem to acquire a taste for them! We tried a range of dishes and shared them... which is the way the menu is intended. The wait staff are a stand out- they provide exceptional service and make asking about the various dishes very easy!!
Foodie AC
Well deserved hat in good food guide, this is CBD quality food in the suburbs. The Sunday lunch is superb, great value and you can imagine it being a family meal in a Cretian household. Service is superb and wines are great. And it was on Housewives of Melbourne, what more could you want?
JH
Camberwell finally has a notable dining option that doesn't fall into the 'generic family dining' category or 'hipster cafe' category. Had the $45 lunch menu and left very, very satisfied (taste, presentation and amount of food, and restaurant setting). 70's disco soundtrack in the background was slightly odd.
Ivastic
Fantastic evening out, food was superb, catered really well for Gluten free, bringing out different dishes for to replace what the Gluten free people couldn't eat. The $58 set menu is I think the best way to experience the food, such a good range of different and amazing food. Sadly the wine list was average, the by the glass list far to small and the bottle list stupidly expensive for what it was. The only reason I didn't give a rating higher than a 4.
Patricia
Went to Elyros for a dinner on a Friday night as the restaurant we wanted to go was fully booked. We ordered 3 dishes in total. The boureki was really good. However the other 2 dishes - chicken 'spanakopita' and the calamari were too salty!! We were afraid to order more food and headed off to another restaurant for the night.
Nomnomgirl
Absolute gem in the east - much needed in the area. Came for a Father's Day dinner with my parents and they are very fussy eaters, but loved it. Must eats - calamari and lamb, melt in mouth and deep taste! Very cool vibe, beautiful fitout and impeccable service. Extensive wine list and I thoroughly enjoyed the Greek red selection. Will be back!

Went there for dinner on Saturday night. Made online booking a few days ago. The restaurant emailed to confirm, then called today to confirm and to find out if there were any dietary requirements or special celebrations. I found this was very professional and customer focused. <br/><br/>It was full on Saturday night. Street parking was not easy, but we managed to park near the train station. <br/><br/>We had a drink at the bar to begin with as we were a little early. Really enjoyed FIX beer! <br/><br/>Because the place was full, and a couple big parties going on, it was a bit noisy and hard to hear each other, and tables were close to each other. Service was very good. Waiter was very friendly and informative. We all had the banquet which was a lot of food. Overall the food was good but not excellent. The bread was nice. The lamb was slow cooked so was very tender and moist. We went to the late sitting so that we could relax and not worry about the time. Just keep in mind, you start before 7pm on peak days, there is a 2 hour limit, check their website for details.

I had high expectations when I arrived here but was disappointed. Being from the island of Crete I wasn't expecting traditional Cretan cuisine but a modern twist to it. What I experienced was an abuse of good ingredients. Snails in mousaka? would you put oysters in mousaka? sometimes chefs try too hard. Cretan cuisine is generous , the serve of cheese pies was ridiculous. Overpriced place for what was served. Great wine list, that's about it.
Georgia Marett
Had a lovely dinner here for my mother's birthday recently. The food was exquisite and the accompanying wine was delectable. The staff were very attentive and great at pronouncing the things we could not! Would come here again for a special occasion.
GPS Joe
Wonderful vibe and good service. (a pleasant surprise!). Supported by delicious Greek/Cretan food. Generous portions. Only warning is that the acoustics are deafening once the restaurant fills up. like many industrial/warehouse chic boxy venues in Melbourne. And it only got louder when the red wine started flowing, and the hysterical shrieking laughter & bellowing ensued...
Fleur
Lovely evening spent next to the fire in the wine bar on a wet and chilly Thursday night. Very impressed with both the food and the wine. Excellent Greek sparkling from the happy hour list, unusual and very easy drinking. Food wise we shared some of the smaller plates and found the Taramasalata to be the best we've ever tasted - smooth, creamy and thankfully white as it should be. The barley bread had a fabulous flavour and texture. The 12 hour slow cooked lamb shoulder was also delicious. Charming staff.
Brillat_Savarin
An extremely enjoyable evening last night. Firstly, the service was impeccable. The staff were super knowledgable in particular our sommelier, she recommended some excellent Greek wines, and was a bit of fun too! The food was overall very good but some dishes weren't as memorable (lack of salt IMHO). Wild greens pie, fava dip, barely bread, slow cooked lamb were our favs.
Timothy Burrow
I loved this place, consistently great food and authentic. I travelled to Crete a couple of years ago and this place brought it all back for me. The food is fresh and delicious and the staff were just that balance between attentive and friendly without being intrusive. We celebrated my wife's birthday and they even brought out a special birthday plate. Most impressed, we'll be back!
LAaydee000
Fantastic! Beautiful decor, the food was outstanding! Lamb was so tender and full of flavour. Service was lovely, good wine list with lots of choices, but we chose Greeks wines which were surprisingly good!<br/>

We dined at a number of express lunch restaurants which formed part of the Food and Wine Festival.  Normally this is a terrific introduction to a restaurant that you may not have experienced before.  I was suspicious when there were only 1 other table with diners.  This restaurant was a complete disappointment.  I ordered one choice from the the entree and my partner ordered the other choice .  Both were terrible.  My Cretian Salad was primarily grilled pumpkin slices with grilled red onion slices with rusks. Boring as, and not fresh.  My partner's chicken was some pasta glug with corn bits and fried chicken on top.  The main followed.  The lamb was average - and reheated .  We certainly will not be going back in any hurry even if we are local to this restaurant. They need to lift their game and impress their customers, not scare them away.
J
Great service and fantastic Cretan food. Went on a busy Friday night, yet the team made us feel welcome, comfortable and we're very attentive. Plus, my bf's surprise traditional Cretan rice pudding cake, brought out for his birthday, really topped off the experience. Thank you Elyros for a great night!

One of our favourite places to eat in Camberwell! This is not really the typical basic Greek food you expect - while it is authentic it is sophisticated Greek food. The 'fava' dip is a must-have, and all the mains are great and generously served. Food is delicious, the place is really nicely designed, and the bar area offers tapas food too. The staff are super attentive and friendly and remembered us the second time we came. Definitely somewhere you want to go to regularly. My husband even brought clients from work there and they all loved it.

In the former magic city you won't be disappointed. More fine dining than the former and lots to offer by way of Cretan tastes. The $58 set offer is great value and you get to sample a number of the favourites - eg Cretan cheese pies, warm bean dip, slow cooked lamb on a tomato and potato base, strawberry 'rice pudding' (unexpectedly delicious). A quality establishment in Camberwell. Staff are polished and knowledgeable, but also accommodating.
Paul Smith
Let's just stop by saying service was excellent but I think that was so there was no atmosphere food was very plain Greek food there is normal to them about it very overpriced two people over $150 I will not be returning again do not recommend
Christopher James
Bit pish posh but i like it.<br/><br/>One of the coolest interiors you will see in camberwell, fine dining but something out of a design magazine. They do quality food and cocktails in a wonderful atmosphere. Take your girl out here and your sure to impress.

Wonderful wonderful restaurant! The stand out was the service - such kind and friendly staff, who really seemed to believe in the ethos of the restaurant. The food was excellent and all suggestions were brilliant. <br/><br/>I would love to see a more casual version of this restaurant one day too, with a less formal atmosphere and layout.

Overall, a wonderful dinner for a special occasion. The food itself is beautiful - flavoursome and presented well. The menu is a nice change from your typical Greek restaurant and offers some delicious and interesting choices. On a Saturday night, the restaurant is INCREDIBLY noisy, with the hard wooden floors - very hard to hear the person opposite you. Quite expensive, but certainly worth it for a special occasion. Will be back again.
Out & About
This place is nice for a drink and a few nibbles. We were here for a birthday dinner with 13 others & they didn't really have a good sharing option for us with our dietary requirements & numbers but the food was nice & the service excellent. Will come back with my wife sometime to try a proper dinner.

Fantastic food and fabulous service. Had the set menu as we were a large group. Everything was delicious and service was excellent. Nice wine list but quite pricey, we had a Greek wine from Santorini which was delicious. Only low point is they charge $3.50 Per person for "cakeage", i.e. to cut a birthday cake. Quite ridiculous, as the "cakeage" fee would have cost more than the actual cake! Otherwise Elyros is a great restaurant and will definitely return!

Really liked this local little place for dinner. The food was quite nice except for the mussels, I just didn't think the feta worked at all with the favour of the sauce. Great local Greek wines to match your food.
Yank In Oz!
Everything about the place is great. The stand outs where the Pork and Lamb dishes. The atmosphere, wait staff, and food and drink are all top notch. Food was a standout. Our party of four decided on going with the Chef's four course meal. The food was brought out in perfect timing and was cooked to perfection.  Well done to the team at Elyros!

Brilliant execution of Greek cuisine, fresh and innovative. Superb service and atmosphere. Well worth a return visit.

Visited on a late Saturday afternoon. The restaurant was nearly empty, but service was unobtrusively attentive and helpful. The food is interesting, fresh, and well-prepared. The wine list is esoteric, and will appeal to anyone who enjoys trying something new. We will definitely be back.
Its All About The Food
Fantastic restaurant and environment. Great menu. Fantastic tasting menu at a very reasonable $64pp. Great food, wine, cocktails and service. It would suit a couple or equally a family meal. If you're in Camberwell you should definitley try it.

An absolute delight of a restaurant in unsuspecting Camberwell.  Having heard raving reviews about Elyros, my best friend and I thought this would be the perfect place to catch up over a fancy dinner.  And we weren't disappointed! The atmosphere is elegant and sophisticated, yet cosy and homely at the same time- especially if you're seated near the fire place as we were.  The Grecian pots/urns on the bar wall are a nice touch too, getting us into the feel of the food for the evening.  We opted for the 4 course menu as we really couldn't decide.  At $64 per head, it was truly great value - such a surfeit of food, we couldn't even finish it all!  Olives, olive oil and feta with delicious sourdough bread and Cretian bread to start, followed by cured bonito & taramasalata (divine flavours) and fava bean dip (we were almost eating it by the spoonful it was so delicious!), and then Cretian goat and sheep cheese pastries, salmon and cauliflower & beetroot salad.  At this point, we thought it was time for dessert. But no!  The most succulent, softest, most flavoursome lamb either of us has ever tasted- pure delight- along with potatoes and a salad doused in the loveliest dressing.  Dessert was heavenly- white chocolate mousse and quince and a Greek yoghurt-type dessert.  <br/><br/>Being a Tuesday night, it was not very busy at all.  Service was immaculate- friendly and attentive, very helpful with making more room on the table for the seemingly endless food, but not too overbearing either.  Also very considerate with dietary requirements.  Overall an exquisite dining experience, will be back and will recommend!

After having been to their original restaurant (Epocha) and being my favourite restaurant in Melbourne, I had to try Elyros. Located in downtown Camberwell, this restaurant is now my favourite in the Eastern suburbs. Rather than following trends, the food at Elyros is to die for, succulent meats, well thought out dishes and just bloody good food. The waiters/waitresses are friendly, professional and know their stuff. Every dish we ordered was amazing in its own right. I will definitely be returning.

Nice surprise and warm atmosphere in the old magic city now a Cretan restaurant...<br/><br/>Great service and some very tasty, authentic parts to the set lunch - but when they ran out of key items the 'compromises' were very disappointing .. <br/><br/>Wine is also limited and inflated. <br/><br/>I really wanted to fall in love here but I feel cheated.

Fantastic food and great customer service. The staff were incredibly friendly, especially our waitress Bridie. A great dining experience

Highly recommend. We recently used Elyros' private function room to host family and friends for our daughter's Christening. My husband and I were blown away by the impeccable service and hospitality of the staff here, even throughout the planning stage. <br/><br/>The manager was incredibly accommodating to all our needs and designed a beautiful menu that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. And nothing was too hard! We all left feeling so welcomed and generously fed (every mouthful of food was divine). <br/><br/>If you're looking for fantastic service and high quality food, you'll definitely find it at Elyros.

Rose. Just had the most wonderful lunch for Mother's Day shared with my family.<br/>Service was excellent.<br/>Food was delicious.<br/>Upon leaving each mother was given a beautiful gold plated pink cup and saucer.<br/>Made me and every mother who dined there feel a little more special. Very nice touch.<br/>Cant wait to go back

Amazing!. We arrived, were promptly seated. Service was impeccable! We were sat as a table of 6 and served by Jasmine. She was wonderful. Took time for each of us and chose perfectly matching wine. She knew the product, both food and wine, keeping us informed and laughing throughout the night. <br/>We chose the banquet and were treated to a wide and mouthwatering food adventure. It was delicious and loved by all!<br/>Will definitely go again!

Lovely surprise. First time here I wasn't sure what the food was going to be like but our waitress was wonderful with explaining everything. The food was a lovely surprise, the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The décor is lovely, the only downside is that it can become quiet noisy with all the hard surfaces and the music in the background which isn't really necessary when the restaurant is full as it makes it hard to carry on a conversation in a group. Well worth a try.

Been here a few times and really enjoy real Greek food not all the usual commercial stuff. Last time I was in was good but I think there is a different chef. Still really like this place.
Elenik1945
Greek food, but different. Went there on a Wednesday night and it was busy. Menu is not you're usual Greek menu, food is based on Crete and the quality is really great, every thing is really fresh and colourful. Lamb just melted in your mouth and the calamari and squid ink dish was really cool. Cocktails were good and cheap, the one i had was $14 and really tasty.

So good. Been here twice now, and it was even better the second time. Wine list is full of quality wines (not the cheap crap you normally find in the places around here)and the french guy really knows his stuff. Love that they are not playing it safe when it comes to the food, especially in a place like Camberwell which can be a bit old school... Lamb is seriously goods, and love those little cheese pie thinggy's. Staff were on it, nothing was too much trouble and it was all just seamless. So happy to finally have a good restaurant in this area, its our new local for sure.

Looks and smells good but has no substance. Over priced, small portions. Seafood special wad $45 but the Rockling was tough, 3 prawns and some of the mussels were not open. We spoke to the waitress who tried to convince that they were ok .....they did replace them.<br/>Waitress was drink left over drinks in plain site....not a good look. Has potential but not there yet.

Not as good as it looks. We were enticed by the look and the wonderful smells as we were walking past. So we thought tgst we would try it. Entrée was nice but the main course $45 special was poor. The Rockling was over cooked and tough, 3 prawns only and some of the mussels hadn't opened so we sent them back even though the waitress tried to convince us that they were ok. One of the waitresses was finishing left over drink in plain view. Has potential but over priced for small portions.

Camberwell...well...well.... As a local, I was deliriously excited when I discovered that the good folk from Epocha were spreading their wings and migrating to the high-falutin' foothills of Camberwell. This was in large part because of the dearth of serious food options for serious foodies along the axis of Burke Rd. Sofia's anyone? While the exquisite attention to detail may be lost in translation for those blue-blooded Camberwellians who prefer to speak the Queen's English, for those with a true taste for uncompromised, gastronomic adventure, exotic dish-fulfillment awaits. Whether it's sitting at the gorgeous marbled bar counter, while sipping on the Elyros signature Rakomelo champagne cocktail and contemplating the encyclopedic wine list, or else navigating the Cretan coastline with a degustation punctuated by piquant sardines wrapped in glistening vine leaves or melt-in-the-mouth slow cooked lamb, flavoured with zesty garlic and oregano, it's the perfect place to get your 'Greek' on, without having to resort to souvas and saganaki.

Great atmosphere. The food and service combined was amazing experience, the staff made you feel very welcome great atmosphere. <br/><br/>I enjoyed the set shared menu; highlight of the menu was the roast lamb, that fell apart as you gaved it so tender and honestly, best tasting roast I have ever had.<br/><br/>As a guest I would highly recommend the elyros. The food and service as well as the pricing was great value for money. I will be difintely be dining in again.

Delicious!. Thought we'd try Elyros, being a new addition to our local neighbourhood... it was a great night! We received a lovely warm welcome from the staff when we arrived. We loved the fitout and the whole feel of the dining room. Staff were great and recommended the tasting menu so we could sample everything - delicious! Our favourites were the cheese pies and the goat. Would definitely go back to try more dishes.

Very disappointing. Food was overpriced as was the wine.<br/>$34 for a main serve of calamari which consisted of 6 very thin slices of calamari on a mountain of lentils. <br/>Cheapest red wine was $59 and Heineken for $9.<br/>Topped off by some weird drunk woman spending 10 minutes taliking up the restaurant to us and trying to sell us a thermomix. Annoying.<br/>Fair to say that it was one of the worst nights ever at a Melbourne restaurant.<br/>Won't be back.

Wonderful new restaurant. My husband and I dined with our family friends last Friday and had the most wonderful time. I loved the feel and decor of the restaurant with its chandeliers and the pottery in the bar. We had a drink in the wine bar before our friends came, I had a Greek sparkling, ( yes the Greeks made sparkling). We sat after 8 and there was a new atmosphere in the room. We opted for the share menu and requested some traditional dishes to be included which the staff happily organised for us. It was so wonderful to see my husband enjoying things that come from his origins, some dishes made him very nostalgic of his mothers home cooking. My favourite dish was the lamb and the dessert, my husband loved the weeds and fish, of course. Our friends chose the wine and after reading other reviews about the wine, I found that it was value for money. We drank a Cretan wine first and then a Spanish wine which the waiter said would complement the dishes and it did. Service is friendly and the food is simply but very good. Its so nice to have another good restaurant in Camberwell, I hope they do well.

Amazing!!. We went here last night with a party of 6 and ordered the sharing menu to sample a bit of everything. Our wait staff were very knowledgeable and helpful to explain the menu and dishes, and I loved the small plates with thin slices of raw fish, the smoked pork, the cheese pastries and the fresh wild vegetables and salads. But it was the slow-cooked lamb for the main that sealed the deal for me - it was so soft, juicy and tender, and it simply melted in my mouth. They served 2-3 plates of each dish so none of us missed out (we all left incredibly full!), and they were very accommodating for our dietary requirements. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and come back often!

WINE TOO EXPENSIVE!. The food was ok, nothing to rave about, a bit pricey for what you got. The wine list is extensive and way too expensive with nothing under $50. A bottle that costs $25 was $75 on the menu. Ridiculous! Can't afford to go back. What a shame, I was looking forward to a new local restaurant that you could afford to go to.

We celebrated our golden wedding anniversary at Elyros last night. When booking I was asked of any food allergies. My wife is allergic to garlic and the waiter immediately identified unsuitable dishes. Tom the wine waiter suggested we try the Greek bubbly. It was a great choice. We shared the cheese parcels, the meze platter, the pippies and the octopus was MINE!!<br/>We shared the rockling for main. It was all excellent. The wait staff displayed the perfect balance between friendliness and efficiency.<br/>On paying the bill- definitely NOT overpriced as suggested by some other reviewers-we were presented with a complimentary deconstructed cheesecake with "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate on the side of the plate. All in all a super experience.
Ilovemelbournefood
Great Service & lovely food. We thoroughly enjoyed the sharing menus. Great value for 4 people. The pippies were delicious and I loved the goat. <br/>I look forward to returning as they make the best Negroni in Camberwell!!

Four of us dined last week on a busy Saturday night and had a blast! We didn't leave till 11pm and didn't want to as Angie, Disa and the team made us feel so comfortable (unfortunately babysitters need relieving....) We did the shared plates of which the cheese pies and salmon were standouts. We also ordered the snails as extras because we were so intrigued as to what these would be like (delicious but ask for extra bread to mop up all that yummy sauce). Will definitely recommend to friends and Elyros is a great reason to spend more time in Camberwell now

Diner at restraunt last night. Hugely overpriced. Quality average, actually no memorable dishes would not recommend. Only saving grace was the wine list.
Austar
Hugely Overpriced!. I'm absolutely with carpediem on this one! All beautifully done in terms of layout and service, but $22 for a small piece of octopus and a coffee is taking the ****. it's a great pity because Magic City was so good.. Obviously too good! I doubt I'll be back unless I can put it on expenses which is clearly how this place has positioned its business......
