Review 1961 Coffeehead - Camberwell

Malvin Leow
My fiancee and I have eaten here a couple times. Pizza here was pretty good, but the standout dish was easiy the gnocchi. I'm not normally a gnocchi fan, but if it tasted like this every time, I would be.
The Brunch Specialist
Coffeehead is a spacious cafe and coffee roaster located close to Camberwell station. The site has been converted from a former warehouse and has an eclectic and retro vibe, with cool touches such as a foosball soccer table. Visiting for weekend brunch on a warm day we opted to sit inside and ordered the toasted brioche and salmon benny along with the Mel & berry smoothie and an iced latte to drink. Everything came out beautifully presented. Had it not been so hot I would have opted for a hot coffee. This specialty roaster serves three blends and a single origin coffee with beans available to purchase. I highly enjoyed the brioche. The thickly cut brioche was topped with Serrano ham, grilled asparagus, poached eggs, hollandaise and gremolata and was served with grilled apple. The eggs were perfectly poached and the brioche nicely soaked up the hollandaise and egg. The flavours worked together beautifully and I liked the touch of sweetness from the grilled apple. My friend had the salmon benny. Served with a carrot and mint hashbrown this dish offers a unique take on a classic. My friend found the flavours interesting although it was a bit salty for her liking. The smoothie and the iced latte were very refreshing for a hot day. In addition to the breakfast and lunch menu, woodfire pizza is now available from Friday through to Sunday. Overall I had a lovely experience at Coffeehead, I liked the cool vibe, friendly team and the interesting menu. Overall I rate Coffeehead ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5. Thanks very much for having me.

Baked eggs with chai 😋 I am very fussy about my chai so it has to be leaf and spicy. This wet chai mix was perfect. The baked eggs were great too, ideal for a cold day. Just enough egg, sauce and chorizo and the sourdough with butter was crunchy, spot on coffee head !

Offering onsite roasted coffee that never disappoints, free wifi, owners who are delight to chat to, and a menu you‘ll return multiple times to work through this place has quickly become a trusted haunt. All day brekkie, wood fire pizza menu, happy hour, a laid back vibe, foosball, indoor/outdoor eating, and available for functions. If you haven’t tried it yet you really should.
Kimberley
What a fabulous find. Delicious coffee and food but somehow even above the great produce on offer the service. Warm and inviting, helpful and genuine: will always recommend.
Tess Aitken
Love this place!! Coffee is absolutely top notch and the food is no different. The morroccan vegie bowl was to die for, I switched the chickpeas for avocado which was delish! Perfect healthy meal for my Sunday hangover!

Best wood fired pizza in Camberwell! 🍕 Super friendly staff who also make a great cocktail 🍸

Good service. Massive place. We had a matcha omelette, pretty interesting. Big breakfast is so so. Coffee is good. Will be keen to try the other brekkie options next time.

First time here. The positives, the coffee was great, the food was good. The negatives, they stuffed up the order, service was slow, meals didn’t come together. when we told the man at the register that the order was wrong, he was really rude, no apology and started to argue about it, very condescending “listen love” his words.

Worst burger I have ever had. Smelled terrible. Had raw onion (stale) in it, was over cooked and grey in colour with no caramelisation at all. Completely over cooked and crumbling, it was in 3 pieces inside the bun. Was also so cold that the cheese that it came with didn’t melt. Couldn’t even take a bite as it looked and smelt so bad. Nobody checked or asked why it had been left, just cleared it and walked away. The owners walked passed our table several times and were oblivious. Informed the waitress politely that it was not good, went straight over her head... I am a a former chef and restaurant owner and not given to complaining as I now that mistakes can happen. Nice venue, poorly run, inept cook.
Emily
We were lectured by the owner for not mentioning that we received 2 poached eggs instead of 1 (asked for 1, served 2, charged 2). He argued that we should flag the issue immediately when we received the food. He insisted that we should know exactly how many eggs there are in a serve when i asked for 1 serve. As it is our first (and last) patronage, i dont think it is fair to expect us to know the portions. He incinuated that we havent been honest and schemed to cheat 1 poached egg out of this place.

He also insulted us on my colleague's google review saying that we are cheapskates customers pulled in by eatclub. Have a read on his reply if you havent already.

This coffee roaster/ cafe is conveniently located just behind Camberwell station and just seconds from the busy part of Burke Road. Definitely a joint for coffee lovers yet they also serve a range of popular dishes like burgers, pizza salads, pasta, etc.
we ordered their seafood pizza (Little Mermaid) and the Beef Burger, along with coffee and juice.

The pizza - Good serving of calamari and prawns on pizza, but it was unfortunately quite watery, which I did not expect it to be that watery even if the seafood produces its own juice. They probably could have drained the seafood better beforehand next time? Not a big fan of rocket salads, so it was too much rockets for me on a pizza.

The Burger - served with onion rings and chunky chips that seemed to be hand cut. Delicious chips! The burger patty was okay but could have been seasoned better. It was more on the bland side.

Great place to have coffee. Food can be improved. It has a lot of potential. To their credit, the seafood tasted fresh.

There is a 1.99% surcharge for any cards, including eftpos. Just saying ;)

I went there for brunch and there are so many nicer places in Camberwell! The staff are rude and slow. I love going for brunch and go most weekends and this was my worst experience yet.
I tried to put a negative review on their Facebook page asking them to put more staff on, but then they turned that into a personal attack on me.
Eat Play Live Melbourne
Off the beaten track in the foodie suburb of Camberwell you’ll find coffee focused cafe and pizzeria Coffee Head. Unsassuming from the outside this restaurant definitely has it’s own unique personality on display with an eclectic array of artwork and retro posters, recycled furniture and a foosball table. Previously a warehouse space, there is loads of inside seating and the ability to cater for large groups & parents with prams, plus seating outside in the puppy friendly courtyard.

The House Brew, 1961 is roasted on site. We had several cups and can verify the coffee is smooth and creamy – some of the best in Melbourne IMO. It really makes a difference to your coffee experience when a cafe knows their stuff.

The all day menu has some solid breakfast dishes plus lunch options and a range of wood fired pizzas. They offer GF Vegan and Dairy free options and will do their best to cater for dietaries.

On Friday’s after 5pm Coffee head open as an evening pizza bar with craft beer, wine and cocktails.

What we had…

Salmon Benedict (GF) 18 – carrot and mint hashbrown, wilted spinach, poached eggs, green hollandaise (option ham/bacon)
This is such a pretty dish, two crispy hash patties with plump poaches and rich pink salmon, topped with a gorgeous green spinach hollandaise. All my favourite brunch things on one plate, so I couldn’t go past this dish. The hash was delish, crispy on the outside and just the right level of firmness. The hollandaise was nice and buttery and not too overpowering. I’d totally order this again.

Oi Oi Oi Burger 18 – grilled ground beef, beetroot, tomato, melted cheese, mustard aioli, onion rings, beer battered chips. (option to add fried egg or bacon)
We had our burger with the lot (obviously). It was a very impressive stack that was delivered to our table – a fresh toasted golden bun stuffed with a hand made juicy patty, fried egg, salad and bacon, topped with a stack of golden onion rings – what a feast! The burger patty itself was really tasty and you could tell the high quality of the beef. Everything was fresh and brightly coloured and made with love. Good quality onion rings too – not too oily and just lightly battered. The fries were our fave THICC kind, golden and crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

Final thoughts…

The menu really has something for everyone with a comprehensive range of different dishes. The coffee is seriously good, but there’s a nice selection of alternatives including iced drinks, teas, smoothies and juices, plus wine, beer and cider. We’re looking forward to coming back on a Friday night to sample the pizzas and yummy looking cocktails.
A Chronicle Of Gastronomy
CoffeeHead, a long-standing Camberwell favourite, has recently expanded into the dinner trade. It operates as PizzaHead on Friday nights with a larger range of pizzas and pasta compared to its usual daytime offering, and live entertainment to boot.
Bigmelbappetite
Driving up to coffeehead I was a little bit worried by the aged exterior but as I walked inside the place was modern and very funky with great art pieces! It had a couple of hits and misses for me. Pepperoni pizza was incredible, perfectly cooked and spicy. The pasta lacked a lot of flavour and wish it packed more of a seafood punch.
Mel Pantaleo
Fantastic place for the whole family. Pizzas are amazing and they have a huge variety in their main meals which all look delicious. Staff are professional and polite. Great place and convenient location

Went to 1961 Coffee by Coffeehead on Saturday around 1pm. Nice little hidden gem in Camberwell and it is a short walking distance from the Woolies. Overall great experience.
Coffee: 3.5/5
Fog Horn leg Horn pizza: 4.5/5
Baked egg: 4/5

We reached out to 1961 Coffeehead for some catering for a large group of people at late notice. Ash and team were helpful and accommodating in organising a menu for us and putting it together on the day. Amazing food and plenty of variety drew lots of compliments from our team - particular standouts were the Thai red curry and the chicken. Generous portions meant everyone went for seconds (some even thirds), and it was all affordable and easy to organise. Would definitely return! Thanks everyone

First time back after a while - very impressed with the food and coffee. Only slight downside was a reasonably long wait for the food even though it was quiet. Kids enjoyed their spag bol and the pulled lamb special was relish. Will be keen to try their Friday night dinners.

Unbelievably great service. So humanly friendly, the way the world should be. Food has always been great, and staff usually go above and beyond.

Best staff around town, a handful of gems, perfect to hang out here with a mad hangover
Coffee+ food = goooooooooooooooooooooooooooood anakin
Amazing manager, A+++

We went for dinner and shared the dishes so that we could sample a few. The menu has dishes from around the world. We especially enjoyed the south African. It was a am enjoyable casual meal.

The family dinner at Coffeehead on Friday was super duper, great selection of food and everything done well. We had a good time there, well done Ash we will be back!!

Retro themed cafe with attentive service. Had a couple of meals here. Including the green eggs concoction in the photo. Some may dislike as its not a traditional way of serving eggs but I quite liked.
M
Meals were good but was given a bad coffee, milk gone wrong. A second cup was provided (so good service) but was no better. Staff then didn't have much interest in working out what was wrong (so not great service). The coffee at Prospect Espresso around the corner was perfect.

Good coffee, but not the best around in Camberwell. Food was also good but not amazing.

One in our company ordered the Corn & Green Lentil Fritter dish and it was utterly tasteless. We all had to try some because she said that something just wasn't right about it, so we all had a bite. It was like reconstituted cardboard.

We asked one of the waiters whether something could have been left out of the dish, in a rush perhaps, which would explain the absence of flavour but she quietly conceded that 90% of patrons who order this dish complain. I respect her honesty, and we told her to pass our feedback along with the rest of these like-minded diners, to the chef. She said that they have been, but he is stubbornly insisting the dish remain as is. I think he needs to get off his imagined pedestal and serve edible food, if this cafe wants to have our business again.

Admittedly the superfood smoothie was incredible. Might try this place again, but I do hope the chefs there can take a much-needed hint.

Best coffee in Camberwell, hands down. The staff are lovely, always prompt and very helpful. The decor is cute and very relaxed, lots of room for big groups. And there's usually cute dogs out the front! One of my favourite little Camberwell spots. Parking is always handy because you can park in Woolworths and just cross the road; it's also situated so close to the station. It's always a pleasure, thanks guys.

Areopress was excellent! Great tasting extraction, presentation was good too. Food was pretty good. Would go again if I was in the area, probably wouldn't travel especially for.

Do not go here. Appalling service and rude staff.
Quiet morning, still waited over 10mins to be acknowledged.
Downhill from there....
Coffee's ok.
Maz
Have come here a few times, but I've experienced terrible service too many times. Last time I came, they brought out 1 of our 3 coffees. After 10 minutes I went and asked about the other coffees and the RUDE barista told me he'd made them twice....Um,well, we didn't get them. So wouldn't you think he'd make them next??? NO, he just decided that he would serve others first and completely ignore our group. Oh well, last time he sees me in there.

Edit 20/01/2017 food review:

Came here on a sunny day and sat outside for lunch. The décor is vintage and definitely full of fun! We had the Big Head Breakfast, Pumpkin Gnocchi and Potato Gems to share. It was great that they were able to accommodate change requests to the menu. The texture of the Gnocchi was good but too much peas for my liking. Big Breakfast was okay. Service was excellent! Staff are friendly and always have time for a good chat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Rating of 4.0 purely based on the coffee and service here)

Love the décor, coffee and friendly service! Have been coming here to get my coffee before work for a week now. The bean is medium roasted and the quality of the coffee has been very consistent. Will definitely come to try the food.

Nice little place hidden in the side street. Perfect for breakfast while visiting the market on pop in on yiur way to the train station. Very friendly service. Great coffee. Food is probably better than the average in the area.

ARE YOU A KIDULT? Man-child? Well this place may be for you!

Why? FOOSBALL in the CENTER of the VENUE! Gotta love it! Great place to hang out and/or bring the kids, or BE A KID, hey??

The Coffee today was nice, but nothing to RAVE about. We sampled the "Black Betty" and also the "Coffeehead 1961".

DON'T GET US WRONG, it was VERY GOOD. But we were expecting a WOW. Not today. Possibly let down by a lack of VELVETY MILK....

THE MILK is SOOOOO important. Agreed?

BUT! The service was SUPERB. Excellent job by EVERYONE today. Friendly, drop EVERYTHING prompt!

btw: The venue has kitschy-retro feel, which may need an upgrade OUTSIDE sometime soon? But for now, its a much beloved part of the local community.

It's a serious place for coffee in Camberwell.

Warehouse set up, as they roast and blend their own coffee beans.

We often stop by here before the weekly Camberwell Sunday Market.

Coffee is above average, I've had one disappointing episode with my Soy Latte, but that's about it.

Food wise, I haven't try their Menu extensively, but from what we've had it's above average too.

Enjoyable spot, can be a tad dark inside, not enough natural sunlight nor artificial ones.

Awesome little cafe tucked away behind the train station. I've been here twice and both times been greeted by a relaxed atmosphere and friendly smiles from the staff.
Coffee is on point, was an easy decision ordering a second soy latte. As I sit here writing this review I'm seriously considering a third!
I've tried both the crumbed poached eggs - delicious, and the sensational French toast. I don't normally go for sweet breakfast but the crumbed banana, candied bacon, syrup and white chocolate made me order this taste-gasmic wonder. And was it worth it? Hell yeah. Forget all of your diets and just eat this food. Just do it.
5 stars for coffee, food, and the service with a smile. Definitely one of my favourite places.
Dannyboy
Had to catch the train a few times for work and would often grab a coffee. Good coffee, staff always greeted me with a smile even though it was early morning.

Had a fantastic breakfast here this morning (Saturday). The food was well priced, and the menu has lots of options. It's got a good vibe in this place. Great service by the staff too!

Been here a few times now, it can be a hit and miss with the food. Last time I got Scrambles and they were really over cooked to the point I could not enjoy. I find the coffee ok, nothing to rave about, a bit rough and bold for my likings and I like bold. Its a rather nice cavernous 90's Indie theme but I think a breath of fresh air needs to revived into this place. I will be back however only when other places in the area are to busy. sorry coffee head I really want to give a grand review but it's at best average.

Top quality coffee - is always consistently amazing. Same goes with the food. Love coming here and always receive impecabbly great service!

Coffee was very good - not remarkable, but very good. Food wasn't amazing but also pretty good. They made up for it with exceptional service. It also has a really nice atmosphere. Would definitely go back again.

Today I went to Coffeehead in Camberwell (AKA 1961 Coffee) as I had not been for quite a while and I was excited to review them. Walking up the building itself looked a little bit dull, not as bright as I remember it? Fingers crossed I was hoping that inside would tell a much different story!. When I walked in I was greeted by a lovely waiter who showed me to a table, placed water and a menu on the table and asked if I wanted to order coffee. I had a look at the blends on offer and I decided on Black Betty which is their very own blend! The waiter then explained the specials for today and left me to decide.

We were privileged to meet experienced owner and chef Ash who has decades of industry experience under his belt and was clearly passionate about the food and coffee served at the establishment.

We discovered Coffee Head by accident, but are really glad we did. We love the super friendly staff, great coffee and excellent food, but most of all just love the relaxed atmosphere and chilled music.

I took my wife and daughter to 1961 Coffee this morning for breakfast. We were seated and given menu's quickly. All good. Then nothing. After 10 minutes the waitress walked past us with her breakfast in hand and promptly sat down to eat it at the bar. We promptly got up and left. Not a word said. Bizarre. The place was quiet with two chefs in the kitchen not busy.
We went to Prospect Expresso and had a great breakfast, great coffee and great service. Will never go to 1961 Coffee again. Thankfully, Camberwell now has great options when cafe's don't care.

What a cool little place! Awesome retro interior, and the best coffee around. Tucked away near vicroads, you wouldn't know it was there. Food was pretty standard, porridge and eggs both done nicely and pretty good gluten free bread. Service was also pretty good and staff were nice. Will be back for coffee again. Definitely one of the best cafes in the junction area.
EdSnails
One of my favourite places.
Excellent selection of coffees. You can pick from about 5 different roasts for espresso coffee. Plus they have a range of filter coffee options for those who appreciate that.

For those who need to buy coffee beans for home there really is nothing like this place around the eastern suburbs. They have a huge selection of coffee for you to take home and use yourself.

Retro diner feel with semi-inappropriate artwork on the walls (it's cool but I have to choose where to sit my kids!)
If the weather is nice there's an AstroTurf lawn out the front to enjoy a meal or coffee in the sunny arvo.

Lunch options here are interesting and maybe some are a bit overpriced. Usually I order the spaghetti on toast mnnnnn it's actually fairly cheap and decent if you enjoy spag Bol on toast (I do!!)
The sandwich range in the cabinet is quite good and the breakfast toast or is very good. Pastry cabinet treats are always a delight.

I really love this place and will continue to come back.

Worth a visit!. Stumbled by this cafe beside Camberwell train station. From the minute I walked in the door, I was greeted by very welcoming staff who looked after me very well. Had a delicious avocado smash for lunch ,but what I would return for was the coffee!! Wander over the the retail section, where you will be pleasantly surprised by a large display of coffees. I would recommend 'Black Betty' which is roasted in house... One of the nicest coffees I have had in Melbourne to date.

If you make your way to Camberwell one morning you will find yourself a lovely surprise. Nestled away is the funky 1960’s inspired coffee joint that serves up a tasty cup of java. Strong, good tasting coffee is what I am looking for when choosing a coffee place and Coffeehead encompasses all these fine qualities. It has a large area for people to sit including a little outdoor patio. The decor is old school 1960’s paintings and the people that work there are friendly and know their coffee. Good news is they even sell their own coffee beans. Next time you are meeting a friend or even if you just want to go and chill by yourself, Coffeehead is a must.

I decided to have the ‘Veggie Burrito - spinach tortilla filled with beans, rice, roast vegetables and mozzarella, with salsa, guacamole and sour cream ($16.90)’. It was a very scrumptious meal indeed. A hearty, vegetarian burrito that had wonderful Mexican flavours.

Coffee Head is the first cafe as you walk out of the train station to your right. Spacious interior with a roasting room at the far end. Friendly staff, smooth coffee...
Flho
The menu has quite a few choices, although not extensive, and they also have a range of baguettes and bagels. Staff were friendly, and being there on a weekday meant the wait for food was not too long. Cappuccino - Love the coffee art, but apparently the coffee wasn't great, and has been much better at Coffeehead in the past. I guess it depends on who makes it. Potato rosti with salmon gravalax, poached egg and beetroot relish - $16.90 This combination of flavours was one which I had tried before, and loved, and this brunch item did not disappoint. I was very pleased at getting two eggs, and a decent serving of salmon. The rosti was pretty good, although it still could have been crunchier on the outside. Spiced chickpea omelette with parsley salad, avocado and li

Coffeehead stocks different brands of coffee such as local boutique blends, coffee-making equipment and showcases a variety of methods of coffee brewing which include Greek and Italian-style stove-top. For coffee lovers this place is a paradise. Their aim as it says on their website is bring coffee from Australia’s favourite roasters to the one location. They even have a online retail store where you can purchase coffee goods via their

Expectation is the worst thing to have when it comes to coffee, but sometimes you just can’t help yourself. Take Camberwell’s Coffeehead for example, we’re invited to join them in their café – “the physical manifestation of the coffeehead.com.au mission” – where we
In concluding, I found Coffeehead to be a hit and miss. The venue and atmosphere were welcoming and the french toast was yummy but the baked eggs was a dish that I wouldn't personally order again. The coffee could be improved but maybe it was just my friend's opinion and the flavours exuded from the bean was to her discontent. Improvements that can be easily fixed but I was satisfied with my visit that included the side kicker of meeting Paul Mathis. With so much variety of coffee and whoopie pies at respective venues, there will be a crowd pleaser somewhere. Now all you have to do is to find the one that will please you.

Best coffee in Australia?. Nup, I have yet to have a good coffee from this place. Coffee is always burnt, and always too hot and typically weak. A love a long black, it has to have a crema, the temperature has to be below boiling and it has to taste good. Never at Coffeehead.
Farnsy6
Nice place. Very glad I checked Urbanspoon and found this place tucked away behind Burke Rd. Friendly staff and great coffee. The menu isn't very big but the lamb tagine I had was very tasty.
Jomoreau19
Disappointing. I took my partner to Coffeehead for a kunch date as I'd read great reviews.
Coffee was good, nothing amazing.
The menu was uninspiring.
Service was willing but clumsy, and the waiter forgot i had ordered gluten free bread.
The outdoor setting of astroturf and uncomfortable metal chairs, no shade, leaves a lot to be desired.
Michael.cini63
Great Coffee. One of the best around Camberwell area - one of 2 cafes we frequent regularly.
Jody_1976
Awesome place !. Love it ... Great food and atmosphere and great coffee. The new owners have really been improving things. Will defiantly come back.
Vlakey
Terrible service, food rubbish, coffee good. The staff here are very arrogant-more worried about their looks than serving paying customers. Food is quite tasteless and overpriced. I should have written this review a year ago, but gave them the benefit of the doubt just starting out. Nothing has improved. Very disappointing.
Food Lord
Smashes it. The name of the cafe lives up to the expectation. With a name like CoffeeHead you expect decent coffee. I only know of 4-5 places with coffee on par in Melbourne and I drink a lot of coffee. The food is good quality for the price but really, let's not pretend we're here for the food, the coffee is the super star here.
Affogoddess
Mixed thoughts. I had an unpleasant experience here a couple of months ago, where the food took bordering on 1 hour, and after about 40 minutes wait they told us they were missing an ingredient for our meal, which meant that they hadn't even started on it yet. It was really disappointing, and in all honesty we were ready to leave. However, we did have a good experience where I returned for a friends birthday more recently and they let us smoke on the grass area which is usually non-smoking. The coffee is good and I really like the indie sugar they have, but the service the first time was unforgettable.
Aidan
Terrible meal. Ordered the steak sandwich, only ate the chips.
Coffeeshot
All about the coffee. This place offers a great opportunity to try out all your favourite coffee blends how they're supposed to be made. Offers a choice of several different brands in the grinders each day so you can be sure you will get something you like. Always something new to try here. Great for a quick stop if your in the area.
Alan Fuentes
The food, is good. Everything else needs attention badly. We got seated at a table full of dirty dishes and were promptly forgotten about. We had to ask someone else to clean the table, they did, then forgot about us. We got given water glasses but no water, and had to ask someone for menus. Once we actually ordered, about 40 minutes after we sat down, everything was ok. Food was good and came out fast, they just really need to either retrain the staff, or get rid of them. Unfortunately, I wont be going back.
Kelly Davis
Vibe on, service off. I love the vibe of this place and the community tables work a treat but the service is appalling - 45 mins for a bowl of muesli and I know they weren't grinding the oats. Offered coffee on arrival - Luke warm and no follow up service.
Lami Martin
I had the most lovely experience at Coffeehead. A friend recommended them to me and I have to say that not only was there service amazing so was there coffee and food!

It felt special tasting a variety of coffees and the waitress explained them to me like you would a fine wine..

I am hooked and this is now my most favorite cafe in Melbourne!
Chaminda
A great place to have boutique coffee and not to sure what the other reviewer is stating about burnt coffee. The coffee is brilliant here and the food great. Fantastic retail area that sells all different brands as well as there house blends.
Paul Tamburro
Average. Poor coffee considering the emphasis they put on it and the prices they charge. Food unexceptional and our hash-brown was so salty that it was inedible. They also play music far too loudly, making it impossible to have a conversation. It's a shame, because the room itself is very cool and I love the wide range of reading material there.
LCsings
Coffee was disappointing... Burnt and bitter. Art work was offencesive and inappropriate for a family friendly community. Despite that the staff had great customer service, we won't be going back.
Happylittleeater
Great coffee + food = return customer. Been here a few times and must say love the fitout and selection of coffees on order. The food and service is always on the mark and happy to dine away from the hustle and bustle of the main road
Callum Hollis
Poor service. Our order never arrived, and the waitress was exceptionally rude when I enquired after it.
Milandro
Best coffee experience in Camberwell. Great retro / pop art fit out with coffee paraphernalia, on-site bean roasting and foosball all rolled into one and making for a sociable, relaxing space.

Coffeehead is well worth hunting down; it's about as hipster as coffee in Camberwell gets and that's no bad thing. There's good coffee shops in Camberwell, sure but the blend of cool commitment to product and real staff with real smiles and friendly service works very well.

Just one thing, please serve my coffee hot enough that I can't down it in one gulp. That might be 2 degrees above the perfect temperature but it makes such a difference to how much I enjoy it!
Jessica Freeman
Coffee on the run. Need to get my coffee fix at CoffeeHead before jumping on the train. Great bagles if you need something to eat.
Coffee On The M1
Disappointing. I like the coffee at Coffeehead, but have to say I'm disappointed at the overpriced and lacklustre menu. The variety of food could be so much greater.
KC
Great Coffee!. Have been buying TA coffee's here for a while, so decided to make it our business meeting place. On this particular day I arrived early so and chose to have some breakfast first... It was spot on, Crunchy Gluten Free toast with perfectly poached eggs and a serve of avocado which had a squirt of lemon on it. The coffees were as always beautifully made, the perfect temp & well textured. For those who have soy, Coffeehead has the best... Bonsoy, just to top it all off... You simply can't go wrong here, the service and product is always delivered with consistency.
James Westland
Great coffee, lovely staff but the steak sandwich is no longer what it once was. It used to be the highlight of coming here. Also the the chicken baguette was brilliant, no longer on the menu.
Munro72
GREAT COFFEE. Thought this place was funky and laid back and we did enjoy the fun atmosphere. Service was swift and very polite, the 1961 blend coffee truly excellent. Food came out in good time, well presented and tasted great. Will return to try breakfast, keep up the good work!!

Disappointed. We went here today for afternoon tea. We had heard good things about this place and decided to try it with some friends. The place itself is very appealing and fun to be in. The music was too loud. Staff were friendly and efficient although they were not busy when we went so cannot say how they would handle busy times. Coffee was nice but not exceptional. I ordered a mug but got a regular cup but that did not matter. We wanted the soup but were told they don't cook after 3 pm. It was now 3.20 pm. Cannot see why a bowl of soup cannot be put in a microwave. I had the ham, cheese and tomato croissant toasted. It was nice but VERY small considering the cost. Evelyn had a tiny thin baguette with vegetables. Nice but also small for the cost. Our friends had regular coffees and small cakes and were happy. There are MANY other places near here so we probably won't go back. We prefer Choclatte for their coffee and BIGGER croissant and rolls for the same price just around the corner.

Don't know what the fuss is about. Have been a few times because I thought they may have been having a bad day. Coffee has been awful on all 3 occasions. Needless to say I wont be back.

Not really a fan.... Having had a few take away coffees and snacks here, decided to take hubby and kids there for brunch at the weekend... Have to say was very disappointing... I had the beetroot salmon bagel - apart from salmon being more red than coral it had no discernible beetroot flavour... the bagel was dry, and could have used more of the dill mayo they described. The egg however was well poached, just the right firmness and yolk texture... Our coffees came out about 10 minutes apart (my husbands double espresso was less than a mouthful!) and my soy latte was luke warm... Hubby had the pork rillettes... I didn't bother to taste as he is generally easily pleased, and even he commented they lacked flavour and needed something more... so in summary - menu reads well, but the execution leaves a bit to be desired... won't dine here again...

Nothing negative, but better options out there. Visited Coffeehead earlier in the week, having decided to try something different from my usual haunt.

Staff were very friendly, food was okay and coffee likewise. Altogether - without any poor reflection on the service - an acceptable but average experience.

If you are one who places a high-value on premium coffee, together with great service and food options, I would suggest trying Collective Espresso.

50/50 Inconsistency. Lovely initial service and a decent latte. Great place to sit on a weekday and study, good music and cosy atmosphere.
However, no follow-up service and second coffee, a long black, was dismal. No crema at all and not very drinkable.
50/50 for me.

Good atmosphere, cute deco, but slow service and ordinary food. It's kind of shame because it has a potential.

Good coffee and friendly service, but breakfast options are very ordinary and serves are small. Poached eggs were hard boiled and ricotta hotcakes looked like a kids serving.

Used to visit coffeehead weekly going back to late last year. The food variety was broad and good quality. The service was friendly and the coffee was what kept me going back. Great quality and up the with collective, proud Mary etc.
Visited today after months away and was looking forward to the catch up. It was terrible. What happened? Walked in an thought I was there for speed dating. The unusual table set up is ridiculous and wasteful. It is uninviting and bothersome. It was so bothersome that despite the new menu being great and the coffee still such great quality, you couldn't help but feel the place had changed. The usual staff weren't there and the vibe had gone. Will give it one more go but this place might have lost its sparkle.

CoffeeHead Convert. Amazing soulful food with an authentic Italian twist, wholesome service and excellent coffee. Honestly it is one of the best places to dine alone or with company. Even if the company is bad, at least the great food makes up for it.

Really enjoy a lovely brew of they 1961 blend or any of their beans on offer. Great brilliant work guys, keep it up!

Have been here a few times as there are a lot of cafes in the area, ranging from crap to great. I have always been a fan of their coffee, but this morning had a meeting there and thought I'd grab a meal. One of the staff told me they were on day one of a new menu. I had the pork rillette croquettes which were beautiful, not your typical fare for breakthrough, but definitely something I'd go back for, and the coffee is still fantastic!

Very cozy atmosphere, very good coffee and most of all very friendly and honest waiters. thank you again for your honesty last Sunday morning!

Waste of money. Terrible.

Boring menu, rude staff, crap food, small servings.

A true disappointment. Awful place.
Food was terrible, and completely over priced.
Staff are extremely rude. I went there with my daughter, and a waitress accidentally knocked my coffee over and onto my daughter. The waitress only mildly apologetic, and didn't even offer to help clean up my poor daughter.

If you are in the area, I would suggest going to Prospect Espresso on Prospect Hill Road, or Collective Espresso on Cookson street instead. Both are delightful establishments, and much better than this dreadful, dreadful place.

AVOID. Worst service i had ever received. Food was average at best, and totally over priced. The wait staff had some serious attitude. They forgot one of our meals and didn't even apologise, and we had to wait over an hour for our food to arrive in the first place.

Other than it's somewhat cool interior/fit out, this place has nothing beneficial to offer. Would definitely avoid at all costs.

Dont waste your time. Went there today with a group of girlfriends, had heard good things, so wanted to see what the hype was about. Can confirm, there should be no hype, and this place should be avoided. Horrible service, with every request or query about the food being received with huffs and puffs, this after having asked 3 times to order - as it had been 20 minutes of being ignored. Food was unexciting and poorly presented - ill received by a hungry group that had been waiting 45 minutes for breakfast. One order was lost, and came out after everyone else had finished. Instead of an apology or explanation, we had the plate slammed on the table by the waitress. On a positive note, there was a another waitress with short blonde hair who was absolutely lovely, and who's positive demeanor stopped us from leaving mid-meal. All in all, underwhelming.

Perfect takeaways!!. This was my first cafe I became a regular at! I loved that after only a couple of visits I was recongnised, greeted warmly and not one but THREE Of the staff remembered my coffee order! Food is consistanly yummy, not ridiculously fabulous but still reliable.... Baked beans could have been jazzed up a little.... Even a pinch of salt wouldn't go astray! However we returned almost weekly for a bite and coffee. I don't care for all the 'hype' and 'flourishes' around coffee. As long as its not burnt, Too cold or too hot and has good flavour I'm a happy customer. Coffee was always good, but for some reason I always preferred my take away (with a raspberry yoyo of course) as maybe there was less time wasted on 'pretty rosettas' and appearance. But let's face it, if its a good coffee do we really need that?! Overall we were constantly pleased and had only good service!

Ordered a cappucino and was pleased with the smoothness and depth, but the layer of delicious microfoam was rather shallow. Also ordered a 'carrot cake' for 4.80 only to discover when it was served that it was actually a mini-cupcake... which was perplexing because on the menu directly above it, they listed vanilla 'cupcake', but not 'carrot cupcake'. At any rate, it was decent except for a piece of off-putting dehydrated carrot that adorned the tip of the icing like a garish piece of jewellery on a flirtatious woman who turns out to be a deceptive high-end escort. oh and the chorizo was tasteless.

First Visit. Went looking for the huevos rancheros that popped up in urban spoon reviews but sadly no longer on the menu. Settled for poached egg and homemade baked beans with goat cheese and avocado. The egg was a bit overcooked and the beans while smokey too dry. The goat cheese was lovely. Had two coffees which were also good.

Though the menu states bread of choice the waitress didn't ask what our choice was.

At this price point could be a bit better folks.

Had brunch here a couple of weeks ago, poached eggs with spinach and hollandaise mmm mmm. The Harissa in the hollandaise was a hit. So good went back the next day. Coffee was great and the overall vibe was really hip. Will definitely be back again!

Decided to drop in for a take away this morning on the way to work and was suitably impressed. Awesome coffee, you made my Monday morning guys. Thanks!

Went to Coffeehead this morning with my family and the food and coffee were great. Despite the fact that they were obviously very busy we did not have to wait long and the service was attentive and very friendly. The lady with the glasses even took the time to talk us through the coffees and help us choose which flavour would best suit our taste. Very thankful and can't wait to go back

Fantastic coffee but very slow service!

We go here every time we go to Camberwell market. But boy, the service is getting slower & slower.
Took more than 30 minutes for us to get our coffees and 45 mins to get poached eggs! C'mon guys, work it out.

Going downhill - avoid for takeaways. When I first discovered this Cafe I was happy to sit and wait the inevitable 10 minutes for my takeaway coffee. The place is always bustling and the coffee was always impeccable when it finally came. On my last 3 visits however the long wait remained and the coffee I was served was sub-standard. Luke warm in all 3 cases. If I'm in the market for a takeaway there are plenty of other options which won't take 15 minutes to serve me a tepid latte. 3 strikes, you're out.

Not good. Coffee not good for a place specialising in coffee - both latte and decaf latte undrinkable. Another pretender specialising in pretentious food (not great food), but without the stellar service and consistent coffee to back it up. Fits well in that area, is always busy because people always want to go to the latest trendy place. expect to wait for a table and feel like you wasted your time.

I was disgusted when I visited on Sunday with my family, we asked for freshly squeezed juices and the waitress brought us juices that weren't squeezed on the premises and weren't freshly squeezed and they were warm from the glass. Then our steak sandwiches came out which were supposed to be eye fillet steak it wasn't it was disgusting. We ordered 4 and had to leave majority of them, was very though and difficult to eat. The staff were appalling and had no social skills.. They left a lot to be desired. Very god damn rude, never going back..

Great coffee, friendly and attentive service. The pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw in a brioche bun was sensational, but we were disappointed with the corn fritters. Will be back on account of the coffee and sandwich though!
