This place is a local for us and both my husband and we love their food and ambience. We have been together and separately and it has been consistently good. It's like a CBD restaurant / bar in the suburbs which is rare. The food is also better quality, not like a standard restaurant. I think it deserves a higher rating.
This is one of my favourite places in Camberwell. I’ve been a few times for dinners dates and birthdays and I’ve always enjoyed my visits here! The decor is absolutely stunning, very luxurious and premium. This is a perfect place for a date night, family event or catch up with friends. The food itself is exquisite! I don’t think there was anything I didn’t enjoy. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly (which sometimes going to classy establishments you don’t always get). But I earn a good wage and like to dine a nice places, and really have had good experiences here!
Love Prohibition - nice vibe, lovely staff and a diverse menu. The small plates are great, and because of the varied options it’s hard to pick just one, so it’s good to be able to share them! The venue is fitted out well, and dining in the Vault is heaps of fun. Lovely local restaurant.
Birthdays night was spent here for our family of 4. We shared 8 of the smaller share plates with Aperol Spritz and zombies (cocktails). The staff are excellent the food was amazing. Loved the Japanese Scallops, Fiji Sashimi, grilled lam cutlets, calamari, cauliflower TandoorI, sorry there was nothing bad! Greats drinks menu. Sorry no photos.
Tried here last night, no booking, it was Duck special, my wife had the Peking duck, I tried the Duck red curry. Food was very tasty and the curry was hot and spicy. $35 per person with a glass of wine was good value, ambience was lovely not too dark but subdued lighting, the service was very good. Will definitely be back to try more of the interesting menu.
We visited here for a B’day dinner on a Friday night.
We were seated quickly and drink orders were taken promptly.
Drinks came out quickly and orders for entree snd mains taken at same time.
We ordered dishes to share as it worked out best for us.
For entree we ordered the calamari which was beautifully cooked,k.f.c Korean chicken that also had very nice flavours, fat boy chips, turkish bread and hummus which was very flavoursome.
All dishes were very nice and came out super quick after ordering.
For mains we had the new yorker steak to share that was cooked beautifully and the butter on top had a beautiful flavour to it,beef rendang curry which in all honesty was very nice but it needed to be a bigger serving.
The cauliflower salad was great with pomegranate and walnuts through it.
Next was dessert with 3 of us ordering the lava cake which was very nice and also a generous serving.
Also ordered were the churos and deconstructed cheesecake that were all rated very well..
All in all a good night out with good food.
The restaurant was very noisy though as I think the old style of the building that this restaurant is in does not help in terms of acoustics ,everything echo’s...
If your after a quite restaurant maybe not the place for your...
Went for lunch with girlfriends what a fantastic restaurant. The food and wine were great. The owner and staff were very friendly and attentive.
This place has a very cool vibe and was busy on Saturday night. We ordered a few dishes to share. All dishes were packed with flavour. We had the chicken wings, saganaki, lamb ribs and potatas bravas. The potatoes were yum but not like the potatas bravas you’d get in Spain.
Great atmosphere and service! Come for the good food and stay for the amazing cocktails! The food is very well balanced and delicious, some dishes could use a bit of a tweak to take them to the next level (calamari and cauliflower) but the overall experience is great.
Now, their cocktails are the main attraction their bartenders definitely know what they are doing. You must try their Pan Am cocktail, perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious!
If you are in the Camberwell this is a must try.
Once again a great night at Prohibition. Food was spot on as was the impeccable service (James & Tommy). Mussel special was insanely delicious as were all other dishes we shared
We will be back again!
We came here for a quick pre dinner drink. What a wonderful open space bar to walk into. We were greeted on arrival and directed to the bar we ordered a savvy b and rose. Both drinks were chilled to perfection and we were able to relax in a great atmosphere with wide open spaces. We will be back to update our review.
Dined here last night as a group of 3. Booked via Dimmi site and got a deal for 30% off food. Hubby and I ordered the middle eastern meatballs and steamed bbq pork buns/baos for entrée and my friend ordered the pumpkin & dukkah doughnuts & hanoi rolls. Only 3 meatballs but they were very tasty and flavoursome. We also enjoyed the pork buns/baos – DIY - make it yourself, the pork was cooked beautifully, and the pickled carrot and other condiments all went very well together. My friend enjoyed her 2 dishes also. For main we shared the lamb special – basil & cashew lamb backstrap with smoked beetroot puree, roast capsicum, caper & saffron salsa. This was delicious, the lamb was cooked medium rare and just melted in your mouth and the accompanying puree and salsa was full of flavour. For dessert between the 3 of us we shared the baked banana brioche and apple & rhubarb crumble – again both desserts were delicious and a nice way to end a lovely meal. Service was friendly and knowledgeable and we got a car park out the front so was a good night out overall. Whilst the food was delicious, the serving sizes were small so the cost of the dishes was expensive for the quantity you got. With the 30% discount off food, it was great but without that, it would have been a much more expensive night out. Would like to return and try other items off the menu & hopefully get the dimmi food discount deal again – many vegetarian options so my friend really enjoyed that.
You easily forget you are in the suburbs but rather transported to an inner city vibe. Cocktails and dessert night, I’m sure it is a thing. The dessert plate was huge (I couldn’t finish it), but the cocktail, I easily finished. Visited mid week and staff were attentive, but not in your face. Provided suggestions to flavours liked. Always too long between visits. Have to invent more special occasions to go out to celebrate here.
We ate here in a group of 4 of us on Friday night, and ended up choosing the Banquet option. Everything was really good, and I recommend this place highly. There's a great buzz around the place, it will not disappoint if you are looking for something in the eastern suburbs.
Prohibition provides the answer to a lack of fine dining and high quality restaurants within its area. We loved the ambience of the restaurant and the set up of the interior. While we found the food tasty, we found a lot of dishes lacked flavour and if we had salt and pepper on our table it certainly would have been put to use! The burrata salad and kingfish sashimi dish were stand outs to us, though we are not sure if their high prices (21$ for the salad and 26$ for the sashimi) were justified. The meatballs and ribs were good but not amazing. What prohibition seemed to do well are cocktails (though quite slow to bring out drinks) and desserts. The peanut butter parfait (a special that should certainly stick around) and the apple rhubarb crumble dessert we're delicious and presented so beautifully too!

+4.5
Very quick service and top quality food which I really enjoyed. The meals were very reasonable which I could not fault. The place itself had a very rustic and cozy look which made it feel very homely. It's a perfect place you would go out for dinner.
I have been to this restaurant twice now and both times enjoyed it. The food is tapas style that is full of flavour. On both occasions the service was prompt and friendly and the food also arrived quite quickly.
I definitely recommend Prohibition.
We tried the steak and the snapper, both of which were excellently cooked. Desserts, the Apple pie and the chocolate with peanut brittle were yum. Service and atmosphere was great.
It is good to share so you sample more.
The food was ok, some dishes were quite amazing; like the Malaysian prawns, the crab croquettes and the mac and cheese which was really creamy and actually seasoned. Steer clear of the mushrooms though, it was absolutely ridiculous, $15 for the smallest mushrooms I've ever seen, the lamb curry; too sweet and really dry and the eggplant chips which were completely overcooked.
The pumpkin donuts are also worth a try, although they weren't as amazing as they read on the menu since they weren't as big and flavorsome as I imagine a proper donut to be.
Service can only be described as absent-minded but pleasant. I know we were a really large group but I felt like there was constantly someone missing some cutlery or cups or plates. And our friend who arrived late had to cancel his order altogether after waiting over 30mins for food.
My wife and I had dinner here on Friday. The place was really pumping, so it is obviously a well- loved local for many people. We shared a number of small plates rather than having the usual entree/main and every dish we tried was really nice.
The service was very attentive, even though they were busy.
They have a great private room in the old bank vault which we would love to try one day.
Great local spot - love having a Friday night wine at the bar and sharing some small plates. The best pork cotoletta and a beautiful private dining room!
Great restaurant! Had a beautiful tapas style lunch with my wife. All dishes were top notch. Highly recommended. We'll definitely be going back.
DO: The risotto, soft shell crab burger, Wagyu burger and potato fries.
DON'T: Go with two people. Bring 4 or more. So many dishes to try so little stomach space.
TIP: The lunch time spesh is only $35 and includes wine. Gotta be happy with that.
Have been to Prohibition three times in the past month.Arranged to have the use of the Vault /private room for 12 golf ladies. Set 2 course menu, with great choice of entree/main or dessert.plus glass of wine. Excellent value and all were very happy, with generous portions, nicely presented, along with bowls of salads and chips. The last couple of times same, with great service and food. Steak just fantastic. Melissa, their waitress, every good restaurant should have Melissa's! It was a very busy night but she managed to give we six, (oldies) great service!! Wayne, the owner worked the room and there was a good buzz happening.
Must visit. Full stop.
Great guys, great vibe, awesome food, great cocktails, bringing the inner city food lifestyle to the inner burbs, me and the rest of camberwell thank you guys for opening.
Amazing venue, food and excellent staff! Great selection of everyday beers and craft, solid cocktail and wine list. Can recommend the Stone and Wood Green Coast Lager, pairs so well with all of the delicious food here. The people of Camberwell are very lucky to have Wayne and he's crew looking after them! We'll be back.
Only stopped for a couple of wines, but atmosphere was great, wine list was excellent and the bar service very friendly. Will be back for a meal soon
I rarely throw around 5/5 reviews but Prohibition Food & Wine deserves it!
We were greeted by a very friendly gentlemen who directed us to our table of 4. Great ambience with a stunning selection of tunes from Motorcycles (As the rush comes) and Oceanlab (On a good day).
We ordered a wonderful cabernet sauvignon along with started being the chefs selection, calamari and garlic doughnuts!
Mains came shortly after being 2x medium rare grass-fed porterhouse steaks and 2x baramundi and muscle dishes. Absolutely stunning dishes!! And the polenta chips and broccolini were perfect accompaniments.
The owner of Prohibition greeted us short after and even joined us for a few minutes - convincing is to have one of each dessert! So we did! I have no idea what they were but they were uniquely beautiful dishes.
Great food.
Great atmosphere.
Great service.
Thanks so much!!
I had the extremely pleasant experience of dining tonight in a cosmopolitan atmosphere with an overseas supplier who travels to the best places in the world (no pressure!) and he thoroughly enjoyed our "local" offering. Was at work and ideally wanted to go close to home to avoid drink/driving - but problem is not much on offer.... Decided to take a chance on Prohibition based on what I read and it delivered from every perspective possible. Had plenty of "buzz", atmosphere and food choice available was great allowing for variety of appetites and budgets which is not easy to find. The staff were attentive but not smothering which is also a hard balance. Frankly cannot find anything bad to say and in case you think this is one of those fake reviews - all I can say is that I feel these days we do not recognise the great things enough so I wanted to do it straight away before getting lazy about showing appropriate recognition for this new and amazing local bar/restaurant. You will wonder where you are when you walk out into downtown Toorak/Warrigal roads after visiting this place! Will tell my daughter about it as usually they have to taxi to find a place with any street cred.....
Been here a few times with the same group of people. For most of our visits, the service was excellent and they've even come to recognise our gang as a (semi) regulars haha
Ive tried pretty much everything on the menu except for the steaks (so this will require more visits from me 👍🏿)
Favourite dishes include their confit garlic donuts, soft shell crab, crumbed calamari, pork main and of course the incredible desserts :)
They also have a decent selection of wine that goes very well with their food.
The food was amazing! I shared with my friend the calamari salad, cauliflower and pomegranate salad and the soft shell crab burger. All dishes were amazing! The restaurant had a nice vibe to it and service was good!
Finally, this area has a much-needed bar and high quality restaurant! The place was packed, testament to how popular it is with locals and those from a bit further out like myself. The menu is concise but creative. We had the garlic doughnuts which were probably the least exciting of the dishes, but still good. The crispy calamari was addictive and delicious. The barramundi dish was very artfully plated indeed - in fact presentation across the board is excellent. The chocolate parfait dessert was light and sweet, just perfect to finish off the meal. The cocktail list looked amazing. Great winebar atmosphere and decor. Staff were warm and helpful with recommendations, and food came out surprisingly quickly but without feeling too rushed. Only downside was the very mediocre coffee - but hey, I guess it's a winebar!
Second time here for me and my partner and it's was better then the first time, the food is amazing. We shared the Garlic Doughnuts and the Soft Shell Crab to start, my partner had the Barramundi and I had the Rib Eye both cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and attentive without been pretentious. Great wine list and great value for both food and wine, finally we don't have to go far to have a great meal.
Finally a bar in Camberwell!!! Noisy, yes but that's to be expected. Food was really good, drinks were better. Staff are exceptionally friendly. The only criticism we had was that they took our plates away before asking if we were finished, normally that's not a problem, but there was still food we were eating on it. Other than that. Great!
Went for lunch on Sunday and loved it! Delicious food, everything we ordered was great and there are still things on the menu I would like to go back and try. There were four of us. We ordered a couple of starters to share then each had a small plate which was plenty. Unlike other earlier reviews we had excellent service. I would say it just took time to iron out the kinks and get a good system going.
Love the interior fit out, high ceilings, wooden floor boards and some exposed brick - very trendy. And best of all you can order drinks!!!!! So great to have a restaurant of this quality in the suburbs. Planning already to have dinner here with friends in the new year. Great to have a wine bar to frequent without heading inner city.
Dined here last night and it was busy. The food came out super quick and it was delicious. Portions for the mains were a little on the smaller side for the price but tasty
You could tell the staff were on edge a little and it took quite a while to get my second drink and it arrived after I had finished my main meal. So room for improvement but you certainly opened with a bang!
Came in tonight for dinner with a big group of people - My third time visiting the restaurant and I am more and more impressed every time. The staff are extremely pleasant, personable and make you feel special. The food was fantastic - the Rib eye steak was delicious, and the broccolini is perfectly paired with lemon oil and goats cheese. The atmosphere is always great - bustling and filled with people enjoying their food and drinks. Highly recommend.
Had a lovely night. We ordered some small plates to share. The garlic donuts tasted amazing! After finished all those small plates, we decided to get some desserts. They were fantastic. What a great way to end the night! Service could have been a bit better.
Lovely setup! We were only able to sit up against the window but it was still comfy with a nice outlook. Service was a little rough around the edges but I'm sure they'll get it together soon. The rib eye steak was very simple yet perfectly cooked, and the ocean trout was also a winner! Will be back.
Came in a few weeks ago for dessert & a dessert wine later one Saturday night. Seated at bar. Service a little blasé in general (toward us and observed across others). Luckily the Mandarin Curd little ricotta dumplings were really excellent, at a reasonable price for high quality. Promising place in this area so wish to go back and try rest of menu to rate properly. Hopefully service is little more attentive and proactive as that's certainly key to experience too.
Had a great dining experience on Friday evening. Yummy food, great wine list and attentive service. Look forward to returning soon and seeing how things evolve. Love that it's kid friendly too.
Great atmosphere and exceptional service. The staff work like a well oiled machine. Never ending selection of wine, also loved the cocktails selections. My partners food and the starters were excellent. My burger was a disappointment, the bun was stale and the whole thing could have done with more substance. I’d still recommend the place, just order something else.
Friendly service. Duck tacos were fragrant, not too sure about the mango. Beef burger was good. Smashed snickers dessert very nice. Good wine selection. Decor very modern, not quite in the theme of 1920s prohibition. Still, lovely food, especially the Korean fried chicken.
We have been here probably about 3 times now and each time we left really happy and satisfied with service and food. We tried their dessert tonight which were absolutely amazing. definitely will be back soon
Great restaurant with lovely dishes and an extensive drinks list. Big portion sizes. The duck tacos were really nice - not too sure about the added mango, though. Burger is huge and very tasty. Our dessert of the smashed snickers was great. Definitely worth going - the Korean fried chicken is really tasty. Fast and friendly service.
It was our first visit to Prohibition Food and Wine last weekend, and I definitely think I'll go back for sure. The food was lovely and the staff were friendly and they handled a bad situation quite well ...
Initially everything was going smoothly; the food came out promptly etc. But then when the mains were due to come out, there was a hefty delay and other tables received their orders before us who placed ours before them. Then ours came out in drips and drabs. I figure the waitress might have forgotten to place our order, however, before we got upset that this was taking so long, they already offered us a round of complimentary drinks.
When the food eventually did come out, it was all delicious. I must say, some of the items are a little pricey for what you get, but the taste made up for it. Their cheesecake was one of the very best I've had, but looked different to the pics on social media, and was pricey for the small size.
When we went to pay the bill, they took 10% off also to make up for the inconvenience, which goes a long way with me. The good will they showed us, meant that they were genuinely sorry, and I'm very happy to go back again. I love their varied menu, and again, everything was really tasty.
I loved the decor too, and parking was easy enough. I think overall, it's a great place for dinner with friends or family and though they got quite busy, it wasn't excessively noisy, which I also like. Happy to recommend eating here, as it became a good experience overall.
Lovely food and a very respectable and modern decor. An ideal place to have a meet up with friends. Friendly staff as well. Be sure to try the flaming Zombie cocktail!
Couldn’t fault the friendly service at our date night venue. Still operating with restricted numbers we got the last available time slot and had an early dinner. The calamari entree was ultra tender and tasty. I ordered the steak while Kellie chose a giant bowl of mussels in a Thai style broth. She was so excited to tuck into this dish and there was plenty for me to share as well. My steak was probably cooked more medium than the medium rare that I asked for but I still enjoyed. Dessert was a citrus cheesecake … yum
We selected a couple of cocktails and I had an on tap lager as was feeling like something easy drinking for a change.
There was plenty on the menu to tempt me back for another visit
This is a nice place for beer and lunch. It is close to our office and is our Friday gathering place. I enjoy the food and beer there. The waitress are very nice and friendly. Enjoy to sit outside during summer days.
