Great hospitality and atmosphere. Came here with a voucher and enjoyed the korma lamb curry which was the highlight for us. Great for vegetarian. Very clean and healthy food.
The best Afghani restaurant I've been to. Being a vegetarian, lots of options, wonderful flavours, super-friendly staff and overall an amazing experience. highly recommend and I will definitely be back.
One of the few Afghan restaurants in Melbourne and it did not disappoint! Warm atmosphere, delicious food and great hospitality. Highly recommend the mixed kebab and baklava.

We went on a weekday, and I was very happy to discover this quiet place where to go with friends with whom you can have a pleasant conversation. Indeed, most places in Australia are a bit loud for my standards and I have a hard time engaging in a conversation.
We also really enjoyed the food: dip naan and Sahakyan as entrees, lamb karma, chicken kebab, and gulpee korma as main course. The owner is a nice guy that will help you choosing, if you have any doubt.

We understand that this restaurant has been here over 25 years. We can see why. The decor, service and food is authentic, genuine and really enjoyable. It’s so obvious that the food here is cooked with love and pride. We had never had Afghan food before. It’s sort of like a mixture of middle eastern, Asian and Indian even. This is probably misleading though. It is it’s own cuisine of course with a rich history and it’s very tasty and rustic on what we had here. We loved every single dish we tried. We had the Badenjan Bourani, Ashak, Mantoo, Qorma Badenjan, Qorma e Gulnee, Beef Kabuli Palau and Chicken Khandahsti. I think the memory of the food that will stay with me the longest is the subtlety and depth of the spicing in a number of the dishes. Corkage was very reasonable at $5 a bottle. Always good to be able to take a special bottle of your own. Our thanks to the owner manager here who is a lovely man. There was some serious discussion at our table (an upcoming wedding!) and he allowed us to stay to finish the chat. An excellent restaurant that we strongly recommend for a great nice out.

Great little spot to have Afghan near inner east (save the trip to Dandenong). Service excellent, ambience is great. Food was pretty good. Had the rice with curry, and was delicious. I really enjoy my visit and will be back.
Went there for dinner. Slightly disappointed after reading very positive reviews. The spicy boiled potato entree was rather unimaginative, though nicely presented. My partner had the eggplant starter which was much better. The main course, a chicken curry, was very bland, though the rice was perfectly cooked. Portions were small. The rose water /cardomom custard was excellent! In all, the flavours are very subtle and the value reasonable. But there are much better choices in Camberwell, so not sure that we'd return.....
I haven't eaten at many Afghan restaurants， so I don't have the best barometer for what passes as good or bad afghan food. All I can say however is that I really enjoyed the food I had here. The flavours were lovely，and the service was friendly and attentive. We had no idea what to get so we got the banquet，and the waiter was friendly in explaining what each dish was. The steamed dumpling entree，and the cauliflower and kebab mains were real highlights for me.
Come down and try the banquet folks，you'll enjoy it.

I had been wanting to try this place for a while but was a bit cautious due to the mixed reviews. I wish I had have gone sooner. The food was delicious and staff super friendly and helpful!
An experiment for the taste buds, where the spices and ingredients of the Middle East and the subcontinent region created its own Fusion. We sampled many dishes and the highlights were undoubtedly the rosewater and cardamom custard and the sticky rice and mung bean with spinach. You almost want to order a cup of tea just so you can use that beautiful china.
Friendly and speedy service, though the waitress herself remarked that the table was too small as we repeatedly rearranged all the dishes and glasses to fit everything. The chicken Khandahari was too dry for my liking as the meat became very chewy.
Have been coming here for years and it remains one of my absolute favourites. In an area competing with ostentatious or pretentious (read: overpriced) restaurants, Afghan Village continues to be good value for delicious fare. It is tiny, so reservations recommended! Great for vegetarians (I highly recommend the okra or sticky rice) and for sharing plates. Wine list isn't exciting, but you can byo. Don't expect anything trendy - just honest cooking at a family operated business with a warm vibe.
I wasn't sure what to expect as I have never had Afghani food before, but I was pleasantly surprised. We had the mixed chefs special entree - everything was delicious. Most things seem to have a spicy tomato-based sauce which I loved. For main we shared the lamb and yellow pea qorma and the okra qorma with rice. Both were very tasty and the lamb was cooked well, nice and tender.
For dessert we decided to try to the Afghani baklava and I loved it - much nicer than any baklava I've had before. Not too sweet. The wine we ordered was great too.
Very nice place inside, nicely decorated and very welcoming vibe. The service was excellent, couldn't ask for better service. The food was absolutely delicious, flavours were plentiful. Have had cheaper versions of the meals we had in Dandenong but taste was a league above. Definitely will go back!

Not sure how this place has some mixed reviews? To each their own I guess, that's the beauty of different opinions. I've been lucky enough to hike through Northern Afghanistan so I got to eat a bit of the food obviously. The food served here is traditional Afghan food, it's delicate in flavour because the traditional food is prepared this way due to the lack of availability of certain foods/spices/sauces that a city such as Melbourne has access to for example. We had the Mantoo (the terrible picture I took as I was keen to eat) and Ashak for entree, for mains we had the Chicken Khandahari (think chicken Korma) and Kabuli Palau (meat, rice, carrot and sultanas). They were all absolutely beautiful, most Afghan food comes with yoghurt and a tomato based sauce and a lot of the sauce bases are a tomato/korma style served with brown rice. I love this place and the staff are 10/10, to be honest if you think this is poor Afghan then the other Afghan food you've had is most likely Indian food because this is the real deal.
Well, this place isn't cheap, but service is perfect and the staff very attentive really care how did you like your meal & are responsive.
Been there a few times now, always happy, both of us. They doogh is quit unique with some cucumber, very refreshing and genuine. Bread is always fresh. Kebab platter is very good, but wish it was a tad cheaper.
Plov is great. Garden salad very fresh, generous with capsicum in it which is great. Wish they stocked onion. Good presentation. Ambience 5 for gorgeous carpet decoration, soft lighting & premium location. Gotta try more things soon.
You get the feeling they are happy you chose to eat at their restaurant. Always friendly, food is very good, prices are great and we have been given free desserts on more than a few occasions now. Really like this place.

This place has that authentic cooking that takes me back to my highschool days in Karachi. It's actually pretty tough to find a restaurant that does proper kabuli pulao with that sweet raisins, nuts, perfectly cooked rice and succulent shish kebab. AV delivered on that front. I wished that there was more curry selection like the chicken karahi that I cant seem to find, but the one we had some rich and delish. The ambiance is quiet; the interior decor is clichè, whilst the service was mere prompt and functional, but the food is what matters and we liked what we tasted.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, and lovely staff! Plus reasonable prices - including the wine list. We were even given complementary dessert. Will definitely go again.
We came here and had a traditional banquet. This was our first time having afghan food but it won't be the last! Every aspect of the meal from the steamed dumplings, the hearty korma, and the delicate rose water desserts were amazing. All surrounded by wonderful service and a cool atmosphere. Thanks guys!
Cozy place, love the atmosphere and the variety of vegetarian dishes. My favorite starter is Boulani..fairly quick service and very friendly staff. Don't forget to try Cardemon green tea!
Love, love, love Afghan Village. Always delicious, reasonably priced and service is wonderful. I recommend ... everything on the menu! I particularly like indulging in a banquet when feeling particularly hungry - excellent value.

I must confess, I'd never had Afghan food before. After seeing the popularity of this place, I brought my family here tonight.
We were all very impressed with the friendly service and cozy atmosphere. For my main, I had the mixed grill. The serving size was huge and all the different meats had delicious spices and flavours. They all go well with the provided mint/cucumber yoghurt, naans and salad.
I was already going to leave a positive review, then the lovely owner was kind enough to run down the street to give my forgetful mother's glasses back to her before we got in my car.
We will be back!
Like having a meal at a cousin's house, and I mean that in the best possible way...Not super polished but all the important things are well taken care of (speed of service, attentiveness, cleanliness, taste, variety, the human/personal touch) and most significantly, it is a reminder of evening dining before big business got involved in small food and removed all the character, and taste.
The meat dishes were so tender and full of flavour! We ordered the banquet and it was a great amount of food. The service was outstanding and they went the extra mile to ensure we all left with smiles on our faces.
Incredibly pleased with this venue. Afghan village is a small intimate experience that serves very fresh and delicious food. We tried a range of dishes and were pleased with every single one. Not to mention service was excellent and the venue is very clean and homely. Would most definitely eat here again!
There are not many Afghan restaurants around Melbourne, and Afghan Village provides an insight into this interesting cuisine, which can only be described as Indian meets Middle Eastern. Interesting dishes on the menu - their dips selection is fantastic, as are their Mantoo.

I took my family to Afghan Village tonight for dinner, as a Father's Day celebration. I had no idea what we were in for, apart from the high ratings on various websites. Being of Pakistani origin, we were keen to see how Afghan Village ranked on our scales.
The cosy decor, delicious food, excellent service and Afghan hospitality blew us all away. We tried the Mantoo, Chicken Kandahari, Mixed Grill and Karai Kebab (lamb version). The flavours were rich without being overly strong. We were served a dessert platter and some kahva which was a complimentary Father's Day treat - what a fantastic way to top of an already great experience.
Munir also busted out some excellent Urdu which scored brownie points with my family. We will definitely be back again, and will recommend this to our friends as well.

The food was fantastic and the owner was happy to explain everything and recommend dishes as this was our first time at an afghan restaurant. The owner even gave all 8 of us free dessert platters. Upon complementing the Turkish delight the owner gave us a container to take home ! We had a fantastic experience and will definitely be back!
Consistently excellent food & service over the years. Small and cozy venue. Good old fashioned Warm Afghan hospitality. The exotic interior colors and the rugs create a magical atmosphere. Most importantly the food is hearty and full of flavor. Afghan cuisine is a mixture of middle eastern, Indian, Persian and Asian influences. The menu consists of BBQ meat dishes/kebabs, curries and several vegetarian options. My favorites are the dumplings and crispy pastry parcels as entrée dishes - absolutely delicate, light & and tasty! The desserts on the menu are baklava, Persian ferry floss, rose water panna cotta and Turkish delight -to be enjoyed with a traditional cup of black tea. The generous banquettes are a great way to be introduced to Afghan flavors!... Have a Magical night in Kabul ; ) xxx
Gorgeous little place. The food was delicious and the waiter was so lovely, teaching us how to pronounce everything on the menu correctly. Only thing to comment on negatively is that they should have more staff on perhaps, the waiter we had got increasingly more stressed as the night went on and the place filled up. But, apart from that, 10/10 would recommend.
Great food and service. Have been here multiple times over the years and it never disappoints. The kebab curry is simple and with subtle spices, dal is like homemade unlike the oily ones you get elsewhere. The bread is nice and fresh.
Food is Yummy, My favourit was Kabuli polo with lamb and mixed chief entry, I loved the ferny for dessert, it is simple but delicious.

The food is simply fantastic and catering can not get better. This is the best spot for a family to spent hours and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. If you are not sure what to try, I recommend you check it with the staff; they are the best guides! My favorites are Ashak (in appetizers) which is almost a full meal on its own, and Kabuli Palau in the main meals.
One word - YUM!. We tried this restaurant not long ago, service was very good and we tried a little bit of everything from the menu by ordering their banquet. Atmosphere is cosy and intimate and you cant help to admire their traditional decor.

Perfect for any mood. I love this restauraunt. I always go here with my boyfriend, really lovely intimate atmosphere. Relaxed and easy going, and the food in wonderful. Delicious, hearty, full of flavour and always a wide selection of dishes to share. My favourite local and a wonderful place to bring friends as a surprise.

Great Find!. After a long working week, my partner found this gem on urban spoon based on the reviews, and we walked in on a Friday night around 7pm. They were fully booked, but thankfully another couple were leaving and we were offered their table. So pleased we were! The ambience created is sultry and appealing, but its nothing on the food: Well cooked meats that are tender & tasty, rice vegetarian dishes that are seasoned well and fluffy... But the naan bread was the best, SO YUM! Can't wait till we can drop in again.
The most amazing experience I've had in forever! Intimate family style dining experience. Made even more impressive by the owners hospitable nature and generosity. The food is amazing, with very generous sizes. We were just about rolling to our car at the end of the night. And the price is as good as the serving sizes. The baklava is to die for!!! :0) Will undoutably be back there again in the future!

Great meal. The restaurant is a bit smaller than you might expect but feels cosy, not crowded. The service was quick with our drinks coming out in a flash. We had the dumplings for a starter and enjoyed them. I combined the veggie dishes, so had the almond raisin rice with the zucchini and tomato dish. I thought both were very good. My partner had the chicken with sticky rice, and I thought his rice was delicious and very filling. The decor is lovely, so I think this is a decent date spot, though it can get a tad loud (not overpowering, just not a quiet space). The rugs and low lighting keep it intimate. Great service. I recommend!

Afghan Village. This is a lovely cosy restaurant. we loved it. It seems very popular and for good reason. We started with the mixed entree of a variety of dumplings and a very tasty eggplant morsel. The main of marinated lamb blackstrap came with prune and yellow beans cooked in a herb sauce. Very delicate flavours to be savoured. Dessert of rosé water and cardoon custard came with little syrup doused baklava and Turkish delights. The restaurant small, friendly and beautifully decorated with textiles and pictures.
Great meal and atmosphere!. I went her for dinner on a Wednesday night with a friend. It was surprisingly busy, but the service was fabulous. The staff were attentive (bot not overbearing) and polite. It was evident they wanted your dining experience to be a good one.

Service and food was amazing. My partner and I ordered the traditional banquet and chose 4 entrees, 3 mains and a desert. The mains are accompanied with nan and rice (that is cooked to perfection). The service seems to be owner operated and there is a real friendly feel about the place. I'd recommend the entree with eggplant and anything that comes with their rice. Followed by the homemade turkish delight.
Going back again.... I'm going to keep going until this place gets crazy busy, which it will. Lucky you can book.

Not just a great dining experience. From the moment you step into this place, you're greeted by the exotic allure and warmth of the rugs, dim lighting, artwork and the famous photo of the Afghan girl on the wall. It's almost like stepping into a whole new world. And immediately you smell the delicious aroma of the spices and food. The dishes are divine-- having been brought up on indian pulao, the afghan version was a more than welcome change; you can taste each and every flavour, it's almost dizzying! The desserts were also delicious and unique-- rosewater turkish delight especially. On top of the absolutely perfect food, I have to say the service was great too! I think it was the owner serving us-- he took time to recommend dishes, and even tell us about Afghanistan too. It was not only a culinary experience, but also a cultural one. A definite favourite restaurant!

This is what i call service with a smile! Amazing food and service! We ordered the banquette, around $45 per head and well worth it. The head waiter, I'm assuming the owner, offerred knowledge and advise on every dish. The food was divine! We've been raving about it ever since.
My Favourite!. My family and I have been going here for years and it's without a doubt my favourite local restaurant! Dining in or take away the food is always exceptional. You haven't lived until you have had their Ashak and the Dahl is definitely the best I've ever had. All the food is wonderfully flavoursome with delicate spices and subtle aromas. I always eat far more than I should when we visit, because it's just so good! Other favourites include: Sholla Gorbandi (mung bean dish) with Lamb Korma and Qorma-e-Gulpee (cauliflower dish) with the Kabuli Palau.
Also, the proprietor is the most pleasant man (he knows my whole family by name and order now!) and the service is always excellent. I definitely recommend it!! Thanks, we'll be seeing you again soon!
Delicious! What a fantastic restaurant. Live locally and tried due to Urbanspoon. Not disappointed. Had the dahl and eggplant for entree and chicken korma shared for main. Very tasty and not spicy for my partner who doesn't deal with spice. Service was impeccable and price was pretty average. Will definitely return.

Tasty fillings. I went to Afghan Village for dinner with my other half. The decor was very ethnic and added to the middle-eastern flavour of the restaurant. We had bolani for entree, lamb korma for main, a side of nan and baklava for dessert. I also had tea. Everything was delicious and very filling! The best bit? The lovely staff refilled my tea cup for free! It is a small thing, but it demonstrated great generosity - especially as some other restaurants charge up to $5 per cup! Dinner had lovely service, delicious food and great value for money. I am definitely returning for a second helping soon!
Found directly as result of urban spoon. Was late and the table for 3 was free in the window at the time three of us arrived. Tastey food. Good service. Shame the place had been freshly painted with oil based paint do their was a tinge to the odor!
